oooohhh thisll be interesting

grew a lot more interested in him while drawing these nice... but hes sticky and gross and fun to write but bad as a person. redemption arc would be nice but he doesnt rlly appear a lot in the comic to justify it.

anway, garlicfang is the older brother of singedwind and dewclaw in the winding thickets. he was lostgaze, foxsmoke, and dewclaw's apprenticehood bully growing up along with singedwind and robinpaw. the clique formed when they were all apprentices and it was soon apparent that robinpaw was the softest of the three, and was soon kicked out when they started taking things too far, then soon befriended his other denmates he used to bully instead, especially mosspaw and his brother, foxpaw. when robinpaw and lostgaze disappeared, everything changed. singedwind stopped hanging out with garlicfang once they became warriors and generally isolated himself, but garlicfang continued to keep up his prideful-bully personality afterward. its all he really knows, because deep down if he stops and thinks he will think about the fact that robinpaw and lostgaze going missing was most likely his fault.

but yeah he stinks like garlic and he needs to grow up

Well. Sigurd ripped a dewclaw out bc he snagged it in my sweater, literally while we were both either on work meetings or about to go to work meetings…so to the emergency vet we went. Where we waiting for an hour to be seen bc we were non emergent. Finally, a hero tech came to see us and told us it was either wait four more hours or she can try and rip the nail off now. Me and Me D held Sigurd (muzzled) while he flailed and growled as dramatically as possible but we were somehow able to get the nail off and bandaged. That tech had fingers of STEEL and we were super appreciative of her. Then Sigurd got McDonald’s French fries on the way home. Urg. What a night.

omg that taxonomy post reminds me of my trip to the zoo a few weeks ago. we were looking at an African painted dog and this bozo next to us is telling his kid that they're hyenas. we were right next to the sign that said "AFRICAN PAINTED DOG" in big letters.

Recently I've been obsessed with Pallanoph forefoot anatomy and I'm wondering: where does their thumb/dewclaw (dewthumb?) go when they're standing? Is it used for balance like big toes or do they tuck themselves somewhere to avoid catching? Is it a preference thing? 👀

I’ve done a quick sketch to show where their “thumbs” go when standing. It’s a bit of preference vs practicality vs body language, but I’ve broken down the usual poses here. Tucked is the default, but odd terrain may warrant their presence on the ground for additional balance, though individuals may brace their thumbs on the ground for any number of reasons. Lifted with dewclaw unsheathed is a more or less a universal threat, however, which is humorous since I draw them far too often in this pose (mostly for clarity, but still!)

The way the claws retract/protract does still need to be (re)sorted but for the time being this is where pallanoph forefeet are at!
