one last run

my magnum opus; my postcanon vk thesis. this is the kind of fic you read when you're having a shit day and you want to feel even shittier before the final act catharsis makes all of it worth it. it's a story about the dirty shame of loving someone who doesn't deserve it; it's about grief; it's about wanting to end it all and the two different roads you could take from that. but more than all the ugly fighting and crying it's about the life that blooms out from between those things.

one of its first readers told me that despite being a major character death fic, it made them feel better by the end, and despite the premise being a final devastating road trip, it's really about the love and laughter that happens in spite of all that. dunno if i'll ever reach this kind of writing again. regardless, give it a read if any of this appeals to you.

wrote this over the course of several months. this is what you get after you watch trigun stampede's finale, devilman crybaby, and madk back to back: noncon subverted and erotic gore turned to the max. do you like wound fucking? suicidal impulses but sexy? knife play? it's here, it's queer, it's incestuous and by god, it commits to the bit. read this for the weirdest wank session of your life. knives gets to top, but at what cost?

wrote this one for a friend. a single snapshot of obscene tenderness (hair washing; bathing) subverted by obscene violence (your little brother shot bullet holes through your thighs and now you're goading him into throttling you in the bathroom). probably my best characterization of vash the stampede out of everything i've ever written. it's sexy, it's heartwrenching, and there's love in spite of it all. maybe there's a way forward. maybe, maybe, maybe. momcon if you squint but there's plenty of twincest to go around.

a bit of a departure from the other four fics here: a mostly canon-compliant companion piece to trigun stampede with a romeryl focus. one reviewer summarized it as "old man fights his lust and loses." it's 12k of fierce eyed, pretty girl, no-nonsense idealist meryl stryfe trying to get into her senpai's pants. your typical age gap romance with the soft missionary sex to back it up. the ending takes the coward's way out without an ounce of shame, but i like to think it still hits like a truck.

plantwood feelings, written for an exchange. you ever had a thing for your boss and his brother, who happens to be your target? no? good, because it's not like wolfwood is dealing with it well. neither is vash, who has loved knives for longer than anyone on this planet has been alive this is mostly a vashwood fic with a lot of yearning for millions knives (evil, irredeemable) haunting the story. i might as well spoil it--this is a story where vash kills his twin and wolfwood gets to watch. no one is happy, everyone is miserable, and the only reprieve is death. but hey! at least wolfwood gives great head!

Out of curiosity what other manga/books/movies/etc. do you enjoy? I really like your opinions about Berserk so if there’s anything else you like reading I’d be more than willing to check them out.

I'll give you a rundown of some of my other fandoms of the past decade or so. It's gotta be fandom-focused because it's impossible for me to remember all the non-nerdy things I've enjoyed lol. Also if you want warnings for anything or any particular content please don't hesitate to ask.

Right now I've got this whole Mash thing going on, delightful iconic + homoerotic product of the 70s, absolutely nothing in common with Berserk except that I can't shut up about both. Also I guess trauma is a major theme there too technically.

The Untamed/Mo Dao Zu Shi, which is extremely fun, I'd totally recommend the live action show as a starting point as long as you look up the differences between that and the book or read the book/watch the donghua after. There's a myriad of possible ships depending on what you're into from fairly light ft fun dynamics and great drama to delightfully fucked up.

Pet Shop of Horrors has a tiny but surprisingly great fandom and D/Leon is a fantastic ship.

Revolutionary Girl Utena was very worth watching.

I was into Yuri On Ice along with everyone else in 2016 and it was a good time.

Samurai Flamenco got me briefly too but there wasn't much of a fandom for it unforch.

Devilman has the original griffguts ancestor and it’s a classic, though I wouldn’t recommend most of the side stories/spinoffs unless you have a very high tolerance for gratuitous edginess and offensive stuff (though if you’re into Berserk you probably do lol). Devilman Crybaby was worth watching imo, though not a strictly accurate adaption, and also v gratuitously edgy lol.

Hannibal is my ideal show honestly, you have to be willing to enjoy pretentiousness taken to the point of campy comedy to be into it, but man I feel like the tone works. And Hannigram does have a lot in common with griffguts imo. Plus the fandom was fantastic for a while, tons of amazing fic.

And let’s finish with Xena, a show that’s iconic for a reason.

Also I'll throw out Vinland Saga (which I need to catch up on at some point) and Claymore as mangas I've read and enjoyed and would rec to other Berserk fans, but that didn't really have a fandom to get into.

So, some of you have probably seen me recommend this series before, so I’m gonna go all out and get it all out of the way and make an in detail rec post for this series. It is... a fucklong HP fanfic, and given you’re following me, a Potterverse fan/headcanon blog, I figure this is probably of interest to any of you who haven’t read it.

And if you haven’t read it, DO.

1. What is The Sacrifices Arc?

The Sacrifices Arc is a series of seven (7) fics + one side-chapter oneshot set in a very AU version of the Potterverse, that works on simultaneously using a truly vast number of badfic tropes (Slytherin Harry, Wrong BWL, Severitus, Manipulative Dumbledore, Lord-level power, family magic, pureblood culture, magical heirs - need I go on?) and also working with a lot of the principles of the original series ... but harder.

Original HP is about bigotry between humans with a slight measure of stuff about other species, fighting a war that you shouldn’t have to fight and learning the importance of kindness, acceptance and love even in the face of the worst, to provide you with strength against it, right?

Sacrifices looks at all that and goes “Pshaw, you are a little baby.”

It’s seven fics + a oneshot long, guys, and ultimately longer than HP itself, I don’t know what you expected. 

Let’s back up a bit.

The starting premise of Sacrifices is simple: Harry has a twin brother. His brother is named Connor (hence the first fic being called Saving Connor; Harry seeks to save his brother from misfortune during their first year) and the prevailing belief is that he is the Boy Who Lived. Harry has been taught from a young age to know what Connor’s eventual duty to the magical world is - fighting Voldemort - because although, yes, the boys were marked, their parents didn’t die in the event; Lily and James were elsewhere at the time and returned home to find a discorporated Voldemort, a smashed up house, and their two boys with forehead scars.

Connor’s is heart-shaped. Harry’s is the lightning bolt.

At Hogwarts, Connor sorts Gryffindor, as is expected, and though Harry very much wants to follow him there... the hat sorts him Slytherin.

And stuff begins to escalate.

2. Why I’m Recommending It

Well, lets start with this that I cut out of the above section because it got too long:

Things it covers: Sibling rivalry, abuse, gaslighting and manipulation, child soldiery and the trauma it provides, bigotry, so much bigotry, making people realise their errors, working with people who are very different to you, knowing where the line is, making alliances with people you disagree with for sake of more than yourself, the way that even those who mean well can become evil, the idea of magic as a self-aware entity, as well as a force that wixes can use, how even getting justice for wrongs done to you might not necessarily erase the anger you feel, how even when you hate someone you can still grieve them, the limits of honour - and what happens when one’s hold to the idea of honour has no limits - a vast development of magic and other cultures, both in the sense of nations and countries, but also the cultures of other magical creatures, the idea of literal magical bindings which force non-human magical creatures to abide by wixen will, the idea of slavery even more extensive than Potterverse starts out with, and of working with those suffering rather than working over them, and sacrifices.

Lots, and lots of sacrifices.

What else is great, beyond... everything. Uuh.

The worldbuilding, the worldbuilding is just fantastic, new styles of magic, new ideas of magic, pureblood culture. This world has magic working a little differently, so some wixes train their magic from a young age towards particular things. Most specific of these are the puellaris witches, who are shy and retiring, bow to their chosen husbands in almost all things, very nearly never use magic and will turn into a literal goddamn lioness if you try to hurt their kids. There is a puellaris who lost her husband and became head of her family. How she copes with the duty of facing a world that she chose to avoid for the gain of her magic? She sees every one of her allies as her children, and will protect them as such. She’s terrifying, I love her.

The story worldbuilds so much. No characters are bashed - I mean it, none of them. Even with manipulative Dumbledore you’re allowed to see why he does what he does, hell, Harry even agrees with some of it, especially early on. Due to Slytherin Harry focus we meet different characters to canon, but the canon mains all still have a part to play and turn up one way or another.

The writing is beautiful, in my opinion, it flows nicely and has some lovely poetic descriptions and it really punches you right in the chest when the sads hit.

Or, to give you another idea: I tried reading it once, ducked out at the first chapter. I tried reading it again, pushed past the first chapter, and didn’t pause until the end of book 2. I didn’t come up for air properly until halfway through book five.

This series is good.

3. Less Good Things / Trigger Warnings

WOAH BOY THE MANIPULATION.

If you have been manipulated by someone you cared about in any fashion, be warned and be prepared. I don’t want you to go in blind. It’s what made me duck out the first time I tried to read it, but I promise that it is dealt with, and the healing process given - as well as the actions of some other characters - will be beautifully cathartic.

Shit gets dark. Like dark. It starts out dark and gets more so. As such: warnings for violence, sexual assault, rape mentions, child murder, gore. It gets dark but even as stuff heads for bleak, there’s always a good spark of hope left.

4. SPOILERS And Further Points

I... don’t think I really have much by way of spoilers for this one, beyond uhhh. Well it ends up Drarry, and if you’re not into that you may wanna duck out? But I personally avoid almost all slashfic at all ever these days but I still adore this series, so I think it may be a personal matter.

There’s a lot of deaths. Like, many deaths. I won’t tell you who dies, because plenty of them are OCs, but lots of canon characters die as well, both those who did die in canon, and those who didn’t.

Be prepared for pain.

That being said... hardcore identify? Oz Vesalius, the protagonist from The Kite Runner, and... Finley in Hustle Cat. Listen I don’t even play the game, but in there, Finley loves this game, but she only loves this one character and thinks the rest of the game is trash and has a love-hate relationship with the game and honestly if that’s not the most relatable thing I don’t know what is.

I was watching One spring Night, I need to admit I'm a HOPELESS ROMANTIC GIRL so these kind of dramas kill me every single time! Yeah, I saw your previous ask! In Italy things are going "meh", since a lot of people underestimate the problem and the other part is crazy about it. In some regions the numbers of positive is above the 2 digits so yeah, I hope people will learn something and STAY FRICKING SAFE. and thank you for being so incredibly sweet! i obviously do have my moments where i’m proud with my work,, but i feel like i’m bragging if i just outright say it? you gotta stay humble ykyk 😌and i feel like keeping humble, like you said, opens the gateway for improvement? regardless, your kind words are really appreciated since i don’t share my writings with any of my irls (except for one of them who follows this acc on and off) so hearing all this praise makes me really want to experiment more with my writing and get better at it too (also the compliments lowkey stroke my ego,, but we won’t talk about that)

and that’s also impressive how you write so many kinds of different stuff? i usually just stick to teen fic centred content because i’m too scared to venture into fantasy/historical/action/crime which is ironic considering my favourite book series is a fantasy one. which also reminds me, what’s your favourite genre to read and do you have a favourite book?

and i actually really debated watching one spring night because jung hae in is in it and i LOVE him but nam joo hyuk and kwak dong yeon will forever be my top favs 🤩 is it any good??? 

i’ve never seen the live action avatar but i know it’s infamous for being an absolute disgrace dhsgdhf i might watch it just to see how they butchered my babes though lol and i really recommend atla! it’s lighthearted and although it’s meant for a young audience, i still really enjoy it (or maybe i’m immature lol) i hope you get time to not just watch it, but to do whatever else you desire, sis 🥺

i’ve actually been meaning to watch full metal alchemist too, since i’ve heard a lot of good things about it. as for recs... if you like comedy or slice of life, Saiki K is really good. i cried over it even though nothing remotely sad happened. if you like action, Attack On Titan and Kimetsu No Yaiba/Demon Slayer are amazing! Boku No Hero Academia and Haikyu! are good too, even though some may say they’re overrated. Devilman Crybaby and A Silent Voice will definitely make you cry. i don’t watch much romance/shojo now? but i remember loving Nisekoi and Hyouka. i’ve watched a bit of the remastered Fruits Basket but ehh, romance isn’t really my thing right now? i've never watched the Yona Of The Dawn anime, but I’m 100 chapters into the manga and i love it so far! i haven’t watched any old school anime actually lol but i have quite a few of them i want to watch soon. sorry, i really went off huh?

i feel much better now thanks to you!! i actually went for my first day of school today after being in quarantine for so long and thankfully it went really really well! i hope things get better in italy soon. i hate it when people take stuff like this lightly like, hello? just because it hasn’t affected you or anyone around you, does not mean that you’re safe from it? people are just... :| sometimes.
