Usha Lakshmi Gargi Ratri
Saraswati
I wonder why don't I ever concentrate on the pooja whenever I am in a group. I love to sit in front of my deities alone in a room in dark and let my thoughts and words wander. I know they they hear my inner thoughts as well as the words that project out of my mouth. It feels as if I am home with them only when I am the only one in a room.
It's the same even today. Today it is Basant Panchami. Dadi, my brother and I are doing pooja day. Dad is in another city and mummy has periods so she did not join for the aarti today. She had specifically asked me to keep a few pens and my RD Sharma Maths book near Saraswati maa's moorti.
Funny, how I call Devi Lakshmi as my sakhi and Devi Saraswati as Maa. As a child of five years, I used to watch this animated movie called Omkara on TV. Shivji and Parvati Devi had taken abode in the holy city of Kashi with Ganesha, Karthikeya, Lakshmi and Saraswati as their children. My mother would always tell me to be like Saraswati -- affectionate, kind, wise and simple.
Years flew by, and for a while, my connection with the deities dwindled even with my dearest god, Krishna. But, don't they say that the goddess of Knowledge sits on Vishnu's tongue. Won't the same goddess guide the one who has strayed away from its path?
I stare at the small moorti of the goddess. It took me back to my examination days. I always carried an examination board that had a photo of Devi Saraswati. She always looked so elegant and benevolent. I usually performed well in subjects like English, Hindi, Social Studies and Biology with her photo on my exam board, so I considered her as my lucky charm during exam days.
The Saraswati moorti looks beautiful. I stare at the veena in her hands and the large pink lotus on which she sits. For the first time, I get a tingly feeling running down on my spine -- the feeling that arises each time I am about to meet a goddess in person. Dadi is probably chanting Saraswati chalisa and my brother as usual is randomly mouthing the words and staring at the sweets.
Warmth engulfs my body, and I hear rain fall outside the balcony. My eyes close on their own accord, and for the first time I am given a divine vision.
The goddess is seated near a river bed that is brimming with fresh brightly coloured green grasses, and a few wild flowers. The river looks clean, completely transparent. It sparkles a little under the sun. Her fingers skillfully run on the strings of the Veena, producing the most beautiful tune I have ever heard in my life. Her eyes are closed, but I know she sees me. She knows that I am watching her.
After what feels like an eternity, she stops playing her instrument and opens her eyes. She smiles and gently calls her swan from the river. I turn back and see a large but majestic swan emerge from the crystal clear river with a string of pearls on its beak. The swan turns its head at me and nods. I gawk at the beautiful bird which causes the goddess to giggle. She composes herself and pats the swan's head. "It's a beautiful bird, isn't it?"
"The most exquisite looking swan, devi," I say as the swan gently lands the pearls near my feet. Frowning in confusing, I look at the goddess and ask, "Why did it give the pearls to me? They are yours."
"What do the pearls signify, my child?"
"Wisdom, purity, innocence, serenity and protecting, Maa."
Devi smiles. I see her face shine like the full moon. "Very good. That's true. Now let me tell you something." Her lovely fingers pick a delicate pearl. "Pearls are very difficult to find. They lie deeper and hidden in dark waters. Only the ones brave into the embrace the darkness of the ocean. You have to delve deep and have patience to look for them. There will be many obstacles on your way. You might feel tiredness seep into your bones. Sometimes you will see your companions getting these shiny pearls quickly while you barely find a shell on the water bed. You must remember that to get the best, sometimes you have to wait for long and keep persevering. One day, your hard work will pay off, and these pearls will be yours. Now, pearls also represent wisdom, don't they?"
I nod my head eagerly. She continues, "The quest for diamonds teaches you lessons of immense hard work and the sight to never consider any piece of coal or a stone to be ordinary. The journey to seek pearls gives you lessons of patience and the strength to take bold decisions to get the best of your life with grace, kindness and knowledge."
Her swan nuzzles on my thigh and I feel my legs stiffen which causes the goddess to chuckle. "Don't worry, my swan won't bite you. The worse it can do is drench you in river water to indulge in some mischief."
I nervously laugh and touch the swan's head with my index finger. My eyes then travel upwards to gaze at Maa's face. Her face softens with a knowing look. "You have a question, don't you?"
"There are nights, I hear a song far away from my house. It makes me wonder who I am. There's a lake near my house. Each time I peer at my reflection, I see a woman decked in red and dazzling jewels. For a man, she would be sensuality personified, but to me she appears divine. She has a sharp gaze that would make tongues stutter to make any remark at her. Then, the red clothes and gold jewels disappear. She then appears dressed in white with pearls and flowers around her wrists and legs. She looks lovely but in a different way. She radiates pure love. She looks at everyone with the eyes of a charmed lover, speaks words that would boggle the mind and make you question everything you have ever known. Later, she smiles knowing only a choice few would understand her language and her words. After a while, their faces morph into my reflection and I have never found myself look that divinely charming even in the mirror. Should I know who these women are? Are they me or will I grow up to be them?"
The goddess closes her eyes once again. Her form starts expanding to the skies. Golden efflugence effuses from her being while her fingers start to play the veena once again. She answers.
"You are them, yes, my child. You will grow up to be them. But remember, don't consider them to be separate from each other or from you. Red is for passion, energy and love. Men in your time will confuse this form as lust. You must build yourself in such a way that no man with a narrowed vision can hurl abuse your divinely form. Many are going to speak against you, even for the way you carry yourself and move. You, my child, are going to rise than them. I shall not speak much about your appearance in red. You will have another goddess tell you more, a goddess who often is misinterpreted and shunned today. Let me tell you about the woman in white."
Maa plays a beautiful set of chords that make me feel as if I am floating in air amongst twinkling stars. It feels blissful. Is this how sat-chit-ananda feels like?
A melodious laughter from Maa fills my ears. "Now, that's something for you to find out. I will not reveal everything to you. But for now, let me tell you about the second woman."
"She has the gaze and a hear of a lover. She will fall in love with everything life will give her, be it thorns or roses. Books are her companions. She is going to be a wonderful being of light, love, kindness and wisdom. She wears white to represent the holy and divine knowledge she has learnt in her life and other lifetimes to come. The pearls on her body stand for the important lessons on patience, beauty, virtue and serenity. She is a very mysterious woman. Some say she has the most complex thoughts about life, while a rare minds get through her way of flowery words and poetry to understand one simple Truth -- this Truth is again your quest to realize and understand. You cannot tie her to relationships and desires in the mortal sense. She will love you dearly, do everything that is best for you, but do not expect her to write ballads and love songs for you. Her love songs and poems speak about a different Lover. Who is that Lover is another question whose answer you must find yourself. She will be your guiding force in life and until you transform into her. As I said, you, we, them are all One."
Tears flow out of my eyes. Perhaps, I did find my answer to my questions. Maybe, I will grow and transform myself in the best way possible and help others in the same. Just like Maa said, we all are One, we all can help, learn and grow together.
"Jhia lo prasad ta ne kana emiti thakurani ku dekhuchu." (Daughter, have the prasad. Why are you staring at the goddess like that?"
****** ***** ******* ******** ******** *********
This is the longest in the series. I am really grateful for your comments and the amount of love you have poured out for this series. A lot of it is personal in these tales that happened to me in dreams and in some of my worst days. Maybe that's why it connects you all too. I promise, once I am done with this series, I will reply to all of your comments and reblogs.
And here you can make a guess about the next goddess as Maa said she will tell you about the woman in red, do you all have any guesses who will she be? This is a very easy answer 👀

Sita in Ashoka Vanam - The Reality of Nandini's Luxurious Life
In Ponniyin Selvan, many gardens are compared to mythological gardens like Nandana vanam, Madhu vanam and Ashoka Vanam but there is only one garden like the Ashoka Vanam of Ravana, built between buildings.
They went into an extension of the palace that jutted out into the garden, a latha mandapam. It was built like a passage, to link two huge palaces.
There is only one person who perpetually stays in the 'Ashoka Vanam'- Nandini. Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar too notices that his wife is always outside the palace.
Why did she often sit by herself in the latha mandapam? What for? . . . One more question rose in his mind: what was she doing there when it was well past midnight?
In fact, Nandini is never shown inside her husband's palace except when she is with other people like Kundavai. Pazhuvettaraiyar, Ravidasan, Vanthiyathevan, Kandan Maran, Aditha Karikalan . . . all meet Nandini in this gazebo.
Nandini's state didn't go unnoticed even by the maids of Pazhuvettaraiyar.
Once two maids came to the back of the palace. They saw the uprooted trees strewn around the garden. "Adada! It looks like the Ashoka Vanam destroyed by Hanuman, doesn't it?" said one. "If our Sita Devi had been here, she would have felt very sad", replied the other.
Nandini's meeting with Vanthiyathevan in the gazebo draws heavily from the imagery of the Ramayana episode of Hanuman meeting Seetha in the Ashoka Vatika, with her maid sleeping in the corner and Vanarkula veeran Vanthiyathevan complaining that people call him 'kapi'(monkey). At the same time, it is contrasted by Nandini's attitude and her extravagant attire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nandini too compares herself to Sita directly and indirectly.
Let them talk, Manimekalai. They spoke ill even of the great Sita Devi. And what did Sita lose because of them?
Whatever it is don’t mention that I am the wife of Pazhuvettaraiyar. I am not his wife . . . If a girl is forcibly abducted and brought home will she become the abductor’s wife by default?
Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar isn't as foolish as his behaviour suggests and deep within he too has an inkling of what is going on.
She kept talking about fasts and austerities but had never explained what they really were. It seemed like a ruse, the kind practised by cunning women one read about in stories.
All this can be contrasted with the big garden in Kundavai's backyard, where princesses are always dancing and singing. While there is a swan couch in Nandini's gazebo, Kundavai has a swan boat which lets her travel freely and openly.
Tumblr media
It is questionable if Nandini even gets adequate food as she is always lying about undertaking several viratam and nombu (that is, fasting and fasting). The only relief is that Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar doesn't spend much time with her and she could be sneaking in some snacks or fruits.
The status of Pazhavoor Ilaya Rani doesn't shield her from the barbs of Kundavai.
I’ve often insulted her and made fun of her after she came back as the wife of the old man of Pazhuvoor.
It doesn't offer much protection against perverts like Kandan Maran and Parthipendran.
Blinded by passion, Kandan Maran grasped her hand and stammered, "I will do anything for you."
While he spoke, Parthibendran suddenly clasped Nandini's hands and placed them on his eyes.
To be frank, she is scared to even travel in the same boat as her husband fearing that he would do something to her.
Basically, the only 'privilege' that Nandini gets are jewellery and clothes.
Tumblr media
The whole country knows that the Junior Queen of Pazhuvoor well known for her beauty is also fond of beautifying herself with the finest of dresses and jewels . . .Poor man, Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar! . . . He does not know about the fire that’s constantly burning in my chest.
Nandini's luxurious life, what she boasts to others and what others accuse her of, is mostly a myth! Other than exquisite jewellery and beautiful clothing, there is nothing pleasant about it.

DAY 4736(i)
Jalsa, Mumbai                       Feb 17,  2021                 Wed 8:48 AM
Apologies for the unprotected , unnecessary expressions of deep frustration that enveloped me last night .. but the Blog simply disappeared .. in the middle of my writing .. this was so annoying that , despite my efforts to find it in some file or format hidden in the complex Tumblr., it was just not recoverable ..
So the entire night was filled with remorse and a distaste , which kind of kept me awake intermittently , and the moment I felt that order needed to be restored, I am here connecting again, and pushing my schedule by a few minutes to accommodate this little essential diversion ..
The accommodation is a slight adjustment in the work out routine .. that is it .. the body needs some regularity before it begins some heavy work schedules in the forthcoming ..
Most importantly .. an adjustment to the increase in weight .. need to get that belly out of the way , make it respectable for some of the appearances to come and give it a more aesthetic feel and look .. more importantly get the clothing right .. when they start to go wrong, its time to work on the gym timings ..
AND .. more importantly the diet ..
All kinds of routines are being propagated by friends and well wishers on how this can be achieved , but they all seem to be a little confusing and conflicting , so one gets back to what worked all these years and stick to it rather than try out some fresh generation , seemingly drastic flair and ruin whatever remains ..
Intermittent fasting is one .. you eat and then you do not eat for 10 to 12 hours and then eat .. and they say the results are amazing .. cut out the salt, cut out the sugar, cut out the oil .. I mean what ..??? just cut out everything .. तो बचा क्या  ??
वैसे भी  I am a meagre eater .. dal, roti, aaloo thats it .. and a little dahi cheeni at the end .. so what ?? what to leave out ..
Anyway shall sort it out ..
What is more frightening  is the work of sorting out the paper work lying around .. the years of material , the years of collecting , the years of .. well .. just .. years of it ..
Sorry for this domesticated outpourings , but I do  believe sharing my thoughts with the Ef is  .. well .. no issue at all   ...
Tumblr media
.. the family prayers went up yesterday for the Saraswati devi ma .. the goddess of learning and knowledge and music and the arts .. it was and has always been such a blessing when the family and staff sit together in prayer .. and find themselves under the protection of the Divine .. a divinity of all .. of all faiths and beliefs .. in unison ..
More is achieved in prayer than any other .. and prayers go out to all in need and in suffering and in the hope of well being and safety and good protection ..
Saraswati the goddess that adorns ‘white’ .. that sits on the ‘white swan’ the purity of its presence .. arts and culture have Saraswati as its signature for all that creativity demands .. her blessings bring the beauty of learning , and the arts and make it prominent ..
ANS so the Ef wonders what next in this sphere ..
And the next has been kept in a month or so with gap deliberately to take some rest to take some important medical decisions , nothing very serious, just general , and then get back to the next venture and the next and the next ..
The scheduling masters at Janak, are in a tizzy at the moment trying to accommodate all that is hopefully coming our way ..
Its not just moi .. its a whole lot of the family too ..
Aishwarya shoots film at Hyderabad with Mani Ratnam .. Abhishek is on to his next in Agra and also his next web session Breathe .. Jaya has taken on a film and yesterday was her first day .. and I am the only one at the moment unemployed  !! 🤣🤣
.. alright all this is not for public consumption .. ok .. just for us here in the Ef world ..
Fine .. am off to the gym now .. the doc is waiting .. doc as in physio trainer doc .. to get that abs right .. to get the belly in shape .. to get fit .. to be able to climb steps without loosing breath .. to just .. well get and get going ..
ok ..
see ya ..
my love to all ..

The Signs as Hindu Goddesses
Durga - Aries and Aquarius
Known as the Invincible One, goddess of war Durga (also referred to as Devi or Shakti) was born out of the flaming breath of dozens of gods during the primordial war between gods and demons. Manifested as a bejeweled golden goddess with ten arms, each holding a weapon handed to her by the gods, Durga rode on a tiger and swiftly slaughtered the buffalo demon leader, Mahishasura, and his demon army. Durga traditionally holds the weapons of all male gods, since the Hindu belief, female goddess energy is what powers and charges everything.
A fierce protector, Durga is often depicted with a serene face while in battle because her strength comes from an act of love, of guarding those around her, and for liberating the souls who depend on her. She’s celebrated during a ten day festival in the autumn, the Durga Puja, and offered flowers, fruit, mangos, and marigold garlands.
Call on Durga for protection when you are suffering spiritually, emotionally, or physically.
Tumblr media
Lakshmi - Taurus and Capricorn
The Hindu goddess of fortune and prosperity, Lakshmi is said to have been born floating on a lotus at the creation of the universe. In Hinduism, a male god is passive until paired with a female goddess whose energy activates his power. Lakshmi is paired with Vishnu, who gives life and protection to all on Earth - and they have always been together, through many incarnations in myth.
Patron to the wealth of Earth and soul, this golden goddess is often portrayed with four arms to represent the four Hindu goals of life: kama (love), dharma (morals and ethics), artha (purpose), and moksha (self-knowledge and liberation). Cows are one of her sacred animals since they represent the hard work and labor that she favors in one’s pursuit of earthly abundance. Owls and elephants are also her animals, because owls represent the perseverance to see through the darkness and the unknown, and elephants represent work ethic and strength.
Lakshmi is celebrated and worshipped during Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. People clean and decorate their homes with bright lights and dress themselves in beautiful new cloths to attract her favor.
Call on Lakshmi when you need to persevere toward your goals and keep moving forward.
Tumblr media
Saraswati - Gemini and Sagittarius
A personification of one of the most important rivers in India, Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, and arts. Legendary for her beauty and grace, she’s known for her brilliant white skin, which represents the light of knowlege. She is often portrayed with four arms holding the symblos of her domain: a book (representing education), a vina (an Indian lute, representing music), and a strand of beads or a ritual pot (representing spiritual knowledge). She’s celebrated during a festival in the spring, Vasant Panchami, where peope worship her to achieve enlightenment through knowledge and wear saffron-colored robes to echo the mustard blooms in the fields. During this festival, children are often taught to write for the first time, as she created the Sanskrit alphabet.
Her companion is a white swan (hamsa), who in myth is believed to be able to separate milk from water - a represenation of Saraswati’s ability to separate good from evil. She travels on the swan, an animal that’s a symbol of spiritual perfection and transcendence, so she’s also called Hamsavahini, meaning “she who has a hamsa as her vehicle.”
Call on Saraswati when you need intellectual enlightenment and an extra blessing in creative power.
Tumblr media
Aditi - Cancer and Pisces
Mother of the endless universe, Aditi is one of the earliest sky goddesses in the Hindu pantheon. Her name translates to “limitless”,just like her reach and powers. She existed before time and is said to be the goddess of the past and the future, controlling all of time. Aditi is also the source of the stars, suns, planets, and moons and then gave birth to twelve Adityas, who were spirits that became the twelve Zodiac signs. They take turns ruling the cosmos by month and created all the gods and goddesses. She’s known as the Mother Cow and Cow of Lights, as she nurtures the universe and is sometimes depicted as a cow.
Call on Aditi whe you want to create your own world of happiness.
Tumblr media
Parvati - Leo and Scorpio
The golden Hindu goddess of love and devotion, Parvati forms a holy trinity with Saraswati, goddess of knowledge, and Lakshmi, goddess of fortune. According to the legend, Parvati was born in the Himalayan mountains, as daughter of King Himavat and Queen Minavati. She is the embodiment of nurturing feminine energy, in complement to her husband Shiva, the god of chaos and regeneration. Worshipped for her patience and determination Parvati won Shiva over by ascending into the mountains and practicing asceticism until he couldn’t resist her and spent all his time trying to please her. She was also regarded for her strength and ferocity; when the hero Kartikeya, who was a son of Shiva, became a lust-filled monster raping all the women he encountered, Parvati cursed him, so that every time he attempted to rape a woman, she turned into Parvati’s likeness - and that ended his rampage. Parvati is also known for the creation of her son Ganesha, the benevolent elephant-headed god of wisdom who removes obstacles.
Call on Parvati for spiritual strength and persistence to pursue your romantic goals.
Tumblr media
Tara - Virgo and Libra
Goddess of compassion and protection, Tara is one of the most beloves and preeminent divinities, and she is known to many Eastern religions. She was born of a single tear from the eye of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara after he looked down from heaven at the suffering humanity below. The moment the tear fell onto his palm, Tara sprang up fully formed, bringing courage and hope. Some legends also state that she was reincarnated as a mortal princess, who meditated to the ultimate level of enlightement - and insisted on remaining in female form for all her reincarnations despite warnings from monks that she had to become a male in order to reach her true potential. Tara embodies the feminine divine and is manifested in as many as twenty-one different forms, most often associated with a color.
Green Tara is one of the most popular and active manifestations of the goddess. Considered the strongest and original goddess, Green Tara is a protector from all negative energy and from eight noted dangers: lions and pride; elephants and delusion; fire and hatred; snakes and envy; thieves and fanaticism; prisons and greed; water disasters and lust; and demons and doubt. A bringer of joy, Tara is also a healer and a granter of wishes. She is often depicted sitting on a lotus at peace, with her right leg extended to symbolze her ability to spring into action.
Call on Tara for immediate assistance. She is a goddess of speed, and she empowers your inner wisdom to help save yourself.

Happy Vasant Panchami 💘🕊🐘🐞🦋🌷🌿 Vasant Panchami is the Hindu festival that highlights the coming of spring. This festival is usually celebrated in Magh, which is between the months of January and February in Gregorian calendar. It is celebrated in countries such as India. Is Vasant Panchami a Public Holiday? Vasant Panchami is an optional holiday. Employment and holiday laws in India allow employees to choose a limited number of holidays from a list of optional holidays. Some employees may choose to take the day off on this day, however, most offices and businesses remain open. Indian girls wear bright yellow dresses during the Hindu spring festival Vasant Panchami. What Do People Do? Vasant Panchami is a famous festival that marks the end of the winter season and ushers in the springtime. Sarasvati is the Hindu goddess of the Vasant Panchami festival. People dress in yellow and they offer yellow flowers to others and to the gods and goddesses. They also prepare and feast on a special pastry called kesar halwa or kesar halva, which is made from flour, sugar, nuts, and cardamom powder. This dish also includes saffron strands, which gives it a vibrant yellow color and mild fragrance. During the Vasant Panchami festival, India’s crop fields are filled with the color yellow, as the yellow mustard flowers bloom at this time of the year. Pens, notebooks, and pencils are placed near the goddess Devi's feet to be blessed before they are used by students. Public Life Vasant Panchami is a public holiday. Government offices, schools, colleges do not operate on the day. However, at the same time, private offices are operational. Background The celebration of the Vasant Panchami is centered on the Hindu goddess Sarasvati. Sarasvati is the goddess of wisdom. She embodies the different facets of learning such as the sciences, arts, crafts and skills. She is said to be calm and collected. She is often pictured seated on a lotus or a peacock, wearing a white dress. Symbols The Goddess Sarasvati is the goddess of intellect and learning. She has four hands which symbolize ego, intellect, alertness and the mind. She carries a lotus and scriptures in two of her hands and she plays music on the veena (an instrument similar to a sitar) with her other two hands. She rides on a white swan. Her white dress is a symbol for purity. Her swan signifies that people should have the ability to discern the good from the bad. The goddess Sarasvati, sitting on a lotus, symbolizes her wisdom. She is also well-versed in the experience of truth. When the goddess is seen sitting on a peacock, it is a reminder that a strong ego can be held back by wisdom

So I’m sitting here thinking Vargas and Swan are like the big two of jthm fanfics, and they have something in common that’s kind of hard to quantify. In Vargas, Johnny is obsessed with capturing this perfect moment, at which point Edgar will die. In swan, Johnny’s whole life is predicated on the assumption that when he achieves this moment of perfect happiness he will die. I’ve been writing in this fandom for 11 years, and looking back on this mirror theme honestly startles me. Both themes have their genesis, I’m sure, in the episode with Devi in canon. I guess perfection is a thing we have to talk about in the context of Johnny and his desire to be turned off and fixed, but the fixation on happiness - I don’t know, I was sitting here thinking about how these two stories that really don’t have anything to do with each other plot-wise both so deeply hinge on the pursuit of happiness, and I just thought.... it was interesting. I don’t know whether it says more about us or about the comic. It certainly says something about how the comic reached us, especially as sad gays surviving adolescence more than a decade ago

When to Chant Saraswati Mantra?
I shall assume that of all us understand that Hindu mantras are most effective when chanted during auspicious times. The best time to recite Devi Saraswati mantras is during Rohini, Mrigshira, Chandravalli nakshatras or the lunar mansion.
The nakshatras in Indian astronomy are ecliptic sectors. There are 28 (some sources mention only 27) sectors, and they relate to the most prominent asterisms. It starts with Ashvinī which lies in the Aries constellation and end with Abhijit in the constellation of Lyra.
The Mahabharata or the Hindu scripture credits the creation of nakshatras to Dakhsa, who was one of Lord Brahma’s sons. The nakshatras are personified as Daksha’s daughters who became the wives of Chandra or the moon god.
Let us discuss the auspicious times to chant this Vidya mantra in further detail:
Rohini
Sign or symbol: A cow drawn cart, a chariot, a banyan tree, and a temple.
Degree: In Indian zodiac, it is between 10 degrees to 23:20 degrees of Vrishabha Rasi. In western zodiac, it is between 6 degrees to 19:20 degrees of Gemini.
Meaning: Rohini is an extract from the word Rohan whose meaning translates, to bring or to rise to excellence.
The story behind it.
Rohini is the fourth of the nakshatras. It is called the red one in reference to its associated star Aldebaran, which is a giant red star in the constellation Taurus. It corresponds to the month of November on the solar calendar.
Hindu mythology describes her as the only one that the moon god intended to marry. Although he did end up marrying all the twenty-six sisters at the behest of their father, Rohini remained a favorite of the moon god, Chandra.
She was described as extraordinarily beautiful, an expert dancer, artistic and an expert in conjugal arts. Among all the sisters she was the only one who loved to indulge in beautiful dresses, jewelry, cosmetics and makeup. It is no wonder that the moon god fell entirely in love with her who spent most of his time with her.
Rohini is further divided into four quarters or padas.
The first quarter or pada is between 10 degrees and 13:20 Taurus which falls in Aries. It is ruled by the planet Mars. This pada is rich in spirituality, and extravagance.
The second quarter or pada lies between 13:20 and 16:40 degrees which fall in Taurus. It is ruled by the planet Venus and is the strongest pada in the entire zodiac and produces the best results from the mantras.
The third quarter or pada lies in between 16:40 and 20:00 degrees and falls in Gemini. It is ruled by the planet Mercury. This pada equates with the accumulation of wealth.
The fourth quarter or pada is between 20:00 degrees and 23:20 degrees and falls in the zodiac of Cancer. It is ruled by the moon. This pada equates with the undesirable qualities of Rohini such as narrow-mindedness, materialistic hoarding and being possessive.
Explanation
The lunar energies of the planet Venus and the moon saturate Rohini with the feminine energy. Rohini is the most fruitful, feminine and nurturing among all the nakshatras. It is also the most productive as well as receptive. During this period, garments of red, white and pastel shades with floral designs are most favorable.
Activities which will flourish and experience untold abundance during this period include:
Trading and business.
Agriculture activities of sowing or planting fields.
Constructing houses.
Investing in financial dealings.
Getting married.
Improved sexual life and romance.
Buying jewelry and clothes for women.
Investing in automobiles.
Self-improvement and physical rejuvenation.
Professions and industries that will benefit during this nakshatra are:
Agriculture.

Any industry that deals with liquids.

Mrigshira
Sign or symbol: A deer’s head.
Degree: In Indian Zodiac, it lies between 23:20 degrees Vrishabha and 6:40 degrees Mithuna. In western Zodiac it lies between 19:20 degrees of Gemini and 2:40 degree Cancer.
Meaning: It comes from the words Mrig which means deer and shira which stands for a head. So it literally means a deer’s head.
The story behind it.
Mrigshira is the fifth of the nakshatras. It corresponds to the constellation of Orion. She is one of the daughters of Daksha and one of the twenty-seven wives of the moon god, Chandra. It corresponds to the month of December on the solar calendar.
This nakshatra is divided into four pada or quarters.
The first quarter or pada lies between 23:20 degrees and 26:40 degrees and falls in the zodiac of Leo. It is ruled by the Sun. It relates to the unyielding nature of Mrigshira and the ability to express through art.
The second quarter or pada lies between 26:40 degrees and 30:00 degrees and falls in the zodiac of Virgo. It is ruled by the planet Mercury. This pada relates to the humorous and practical side of the nakshatra.
The third quarter or pada is between 00:00 degrees and 3:20 and falls in the Libra. It is ruled by the planet Venus. This pada relates to being sociable and pursuing the mental side of relationships.
The fourth quarter or pada is 3:20 degrees and 6:40 degrees and falls in the zodiac of Scorpio. It is ruled by the planet Mars. This pada relates to the negative aspect of the nakshatra such as being argumentative, jumping to conclusions and being suspicious.
Explanation
Mars being the primary ruler of this nakshatra, it provides the martian energy. It also forms a bridge between the zodiacs Gemini and Taurus and is the only nakshatra which lies equally on both. Therefore, there is a strong desire to balance the energy between air and the earth.
It has the tremendous artistic ability to express as well as an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Materialistic gains can be witnessed in this nakshatra as well. It is advised to wear garments of red, white, green as well as bright colors with sparkles and glitters.
Activities that will be very fruitful and witness a lot of growth during this period are:

Professions and industries that will benefit during this nakshatra are:
Writers of all kinds – poets, novelists and so on.
Painters, musicians, dancers, and singers.
Gemstone dealers and jewelers.
Real estate and Advertisers.
Landscapers and designers in various categories.
Astrologers.
Physicians and teachers.
Chandravalli.
Another auspicious time to chant the Saraswati mantra is during Chandravalli. The story behind this figure is, to say the least. I, for one, think the story and the records are very ambiguous as well as mysterious.
Unlike the nakshatras of Rohini and Mrigshira, Chandravalli has no sign or symbol or degree in astrology. She was more of a physical entity in the ancient world during Krishna.
Some texts describe her as a beautiful and devoted gopi or a milkmaid. She was one of the many gopis that Krishna loved while on earth. There are sources that describe her as the sister of Radha, the chief consort of Lord Krishna. However, their affections for Krishna put them in very conflicting situations. In many places, Chandravalli, whose name means a multitude of moons, is portrayed as a stiff rival of Radha. This of course, is a constant source of grief to Radha, but something that Krishna finds intriguing.
However, she serves merely as a background to the epic love story of Krishna and Radha. She is portrayed as a submissive woman who charmed Krishna and enraged Radha in the process. In all the sources, she is depicted as the woman that always lost to Radha, whether in terms of talent, beauty and ultimately winning the love of Krishna.
In yet another source, Chandravalli is the flute that Lord Krishna plays. The flute is described as the physical embodiment of the intense love between Krishna and Radha. The flute was a gift from the chief god, Brahma. The music that flowed from the Chandravalli was so magical that all the wild animals and birds danced to it whenever Krishna played it. It was also very enchanting and drew all the milkmaids or the gopis to throng around Krishna.
Whichever version we choose to believe, it is an auspicious time to chant mantras to the goddess Saraswati.
