notes: happy valentine's day! i'm sending you all so much love. 💝 thank you for reading & REMEMBER TO REBLOG!
Tumblr media
You parked your car next to Loki's, although the parking lot was empty at this hour. This sounded like a cute metaphor about how you could have all the space in the world, yet you'd rather stay close to your man. Anyway. You parked your car and struggled with just about everything beyond that point. Your hands were too full to close and lock the door easily and to zip your coat and put its hood over your head. Once you figured it out, you waddled your way to the restaurant. You struggled with the push and pull mechanism, nothing special there, and you especially struggled to look normal while you bee-lined to his usual table.
You were lucky, his back faced the door so he did not catch even the smallest visual glimpse of your shenanigans. Although he could not see you, his face beamed with a smile at the squeaky sound of your shoes and at your clumsy apologies to the waitress for coming in so close to closing hours.
"Surprise." You laughed at how you ruined your own plans. You handed him the precious package you were holding close to your body this whole time.
"What are you doing here?" Loki's eyes glanced up at you, then down at the box you were handing him. Pink wrapping paper, pink ribbon, pink bow, pink everything.
"I just told you, I wanted to surprise you." He emptied your hand so you could pull your phone out of your pocket. "Look, it's after midnight."
He blinked, with an arched brow.
"That means it's Valentine's Day." You smiled from ear to ear.
"I thought we had plans for dinner not... for now."
"Surprise!" You repeated and hopped closer to him, leaning in for a quick kiss. "I know we said no gift. I also know that if I tried to hide the gift, you'd find it. So this is the best plan I came up with!"
He set the box down on the table and attempted to search through the pocket of his black coat, but he stopped to listen to you.
You told him you knew he'd be there to eat before coming back home, so you would not lovingly scold him about not prioritizing his needs. You told him it was no bother, to drive in the middle of the night to meet with him. You told him you planned this all out with love. You also told him how proud you were for surprising him for once, well, kind of.
"I'm proud of you." You smiled when you sat down in front of him. You caught him just in time, too, he had finished his food. He politely asked the waitress for a refill of coffee. He searched his coat again and pulled a gift out of it.
The box was not wrapped up all cutesy like yours, but you could not care less.
"I know we said no presents." The waitress reappeared and placed two fortune cookies between Loki and you. She walked back to the kitchen with the empty coffee pot.
After Loki sipped his coffee, you both agreed to open your presents at the same time.
Loki carefully pulled on the ribbon and peeled the heart patterned paper off the box. He gasped when he opened it and discovered a ring. It resembled the Masonic ring he wore, but it was different. Loki's ring was plain, it suited him. But the one you got for him showed intricate details and complex craftsmanship.
"I don't need to understand it to know it's important for you." You watched his reactions closely while he studied the ring. You explained how you saw an advertisement in the newspaper about people selling vintage knickknacks. It was not too far out of town, it was set up like a yard sale. You found the ring in an old jewellery box, had it cleaned up, and saved it for this special occasion.
"I love it." He closed the box and smiled widely. "Thank you." You could feel how much this gift mattered to him and you were happy with yourself. "It's your turn."
So, you opened your present too. You frowned, confused, when you pulled out a chain that looked exactly like his.
"You like mine so much, figured you wanted your own..." You spoke at the same time. "So we can match."
You insisted on putting it on right away, but Loki decided you should wait until you both got home. The waitress came back to clean your tables and, before you left, you opened your fortune cookies.
Loki was a little superstitious about his cookies, he liked to give them time to work their magic so you did not share what the strip or paper said right away. He paid and tipped the waitress generously and headed outside.
You waved goodbye at the waitress and wished her "Happy Valentine's day!"
*~*~*
Loki hung the towel to dry on the rack, his messy half dry hair looked so different from his usual slicked back look. He looked relaxed, at peace. He came up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist while the steam from the shower slowly dissipated.
You handed him the small necklace and he groaned in response, not wanting to leave the embrace just yet. You had waited too long with the ride home in your respective cars and the long steamy shower. You wanted your present.
He obliged, though, and carefully put the chain around your neck. He watched your reflection in the mirror with a corner smile. "You look so beautiful, my love."
You looked at yourself through the mirror too and brought your hand to touch the cold metal of the chain. It was exactly like Loki's, you'd always have a piece of him with you that way.
Loki kissed your cheek and along the side of your neck, where he focused until your brain got too fuzzy to thank him again for the Valentine's day present. He lingered on one spot, sucking a light mark on it that he soothed with gentle licks. His hands caressed your exposed chest.
"I'm guessing you love it as much as I do?" You looked at the mirror again and caught a glimpse of your man smirking against your skin and marking you up some more while his hands were groping your tits.
He grunted, now teasing your nipples until they got hard. He loved to feel you squirm against his naked body, your ass grinding on his hardening cock.
You gasped when he pinched and pulled gently on your nipples.
He had no intention of hurting you, he simply wanted to tease you. His day was long, rough, as it always seemed to be but your surprise at the restaurant put him in a much better mood. Despite wanting to enjoy your body and to explore every inch of it by peppering kisses, his body forced him to pick up the pace.
"Please..." You whispered, begging him to keep touching you.
And he did, without needing you to explain any further. His hands abandoned your breasts and travelled down.
You lost sight of them in the mirror, but your entire body felt like it melted when his fingers touched your pussy.
"So fucking wet for me." He praised you in your ear, before he switched sides and started to mark the rest of your neck with hickeys. He dipped two fingers between your folds.
Instinctively, your legs opened up for him. You gave him enough space for his hand, but also for his cock.
He pushed his cock between your legs and moaned of pleasure when your pussy lips coated him with wetness. Loki helped you close your legs just a bit, so that he could fuck your thighs.
It was not as satisfying as having him buried inside of your pussy or feeling his fingers rub your tingly clit, but this felt so good still.
It felt especially good when Loki grabbed your hips to hold you in place. He fucked himself with your thighs, grunting louder and louder with each thrust. "Fuck," he mumbled, face still in your neck. "Been thinking of your pussy all day."
You reached a hand behind you and put it on the back of his head, holding him close. "Need you inside me, baby."
"Say that again." He demanded, his eyes rolled to the back of his head when you whined loudly as the tip of his cock hit your clit.
You took a deep breath, trying to speak coherently although this seemed next to impossible when Loki was fucking you. "I need your cock so bad. I need you inside me. Please. Please!"
"Good girl." Loki stopped moving, his cock lodged between your thighs and under your wet pussy.
"Why?" You complained, tears began to pool at the corner of your eyes. You needed him to keep going so bad.
His fingers started to rub your clit instead, but it was way too slow for your liking. "Wanna know what my fortune cookie said?"
You put your hand over his, trying to make him speed up and take you closer to your orgasm, but you failed.
His strong hand just kept rubbing small, lazy circles on your sensitive clit. "Answer me. Do you want to know?"
You rolled your eyes and surrendered. "What did it say?"
He wore a proud smile on his face. When you noticed it, you chuckled. "It said to Plan for many pleasures ahead." You rolled your eyes and he insisted. "No, no, no. I'm serious! You don't believe me? You wanna see it?" He gave your pussy a gentle slap to make you quit your attitude.
It succeeded in making your brain short circuit for a second.
"I can prove it to you that this was written on the paper. It's in my coat, I'm gonna go and get it." Loki pulled away from you, his hands, and his cock, leaving your body.
You whined so loud that he laughed.
He was surprised at your reaction, but he was more so aroused at how much you wanted to feel him.
"What is it? You don't want me to go?"
"Absolutely not." You turned around, finally looking at him directly in the eye. "But we're still gonna go somewhere." You erased the distance between your bodies again only to push him out of the bathroom and in direction of the bedroom.
He walked backwards, letting you guide him with a proud smirk.
"I'd rather make the fortune cookie's wish come true."
Loki turned you around and, when you finally got near the bed, he pushed you down on it. "That's my good fucking girl."

I’ve always toyed with the idea of an x reader where you knew Loki in his youth, got split up for whatever reason, and found each other again because you both went into law enforcement :0 If that interests you I think you’d do a great job of fleshing it out :D
love this! thank you, and I'm sorry for the delay. hope you like it 🖤
tw: blood and panic attack mention
Children are born with an innocence, an ignorant imagination and concept of the world. sticky fingers dig through the mud, catching under their fingernails. Dark crescent moons of dirt signified a good day.
Now, the dirt caught under your nails made you physically ill. Hours ago, the frozen ground seemed to be your only life line as you heaved and gasped into the dirt, dried brown grass caressing your palms. Death was a violent lover. It clutched at you and held you until it swallowed you whole. Leaving only an imprint of what was.
You met him when you were a kid. Only innocence never got to be yours. At three years old, you went into foster care for the first time. Floated in and out since then. The facility you frequented the most was nestled right next to the Huntington Boys Home, a chain link fence the only divider. Conyers liked to advertise itself as a quiet community for the perfect family. The poor, lost souls of society were cornered away on the outskirts of town, unseen and unheard.
The year you turned thirteen changed everything for you. You met a boy along the fence line, dark hair overgrown and blue eyes piercing, he introduced himself as David. Parents were no good, he said. Lived with an uncle, didn't work out, he said. The boy smelled like cigarettes, blood long dried and caked over his bruised knuckles, his mouth tasted like whiskey and his eyes were stormy. And you loved it all.
Time changes things. At 18, you aged out of foster care and entered the world. Once unseen, unheard and unwanted, your soul burned with anger and spite. You were going to be seen, and they were going to hear you. You lost David at 16. One day, he just disappeared without a trace. You heard whisperings of assault charges, military school, and prison. But the story changed weekly. You had accepted his disappearance. He was just gone. And that was that.
You fell into the police academy haphazardly. An old social worker on your case had wormed her way into your head, telling you that you could help people the way you never were. Make a difference. Understand in a way most couldn't. Change things. Ten years later, you think she's full of shit.
Folders were piled high onto your desk, your badge digging into your skin as you were slumped over the paperwork. Eyes bleary and head pounding, David approaches from behind you. His hands tug at your office chair, the wheels screeching as he turns you to face him, "Go home."
"No. I'm busy." You try to turn back towards your desk but David's arms are caging you in, halting the chair from movement.
"You've been here since 4am. The only thing I've seen you eat is one granola bar, and you're doing that thing you used to do when we were kids."
You looked down to see your throbbing bloody thumb, an old habit you hadn't kicked. You picked and picked and picked until it was raw, bloody and infected. You noticed blood smudge on the corner of the papers at your desk and smeared into the fabric of your blouse. Shoving hands into the socket of your aching eyes, "Fine."
A glimmer of satisfaction washed over Loki's eyes, a smirk tugging at his lips, "I'll see you at home."
Home. After finishing the police academy, you were employed by the Conyers Police Department. A year on the job, and David reappeared. A police officer with cropped hair, a stony face, and the same stormy eyes. You two had been partnered together, Captain O’Malley unknowing of the history you two had shared. Not many words were spoken between you two until a close call that ended up with you in the hospital with a gunshot wound. David moved in that night after you were discharged from the hospital.
Years later, you two became the youngest detectives on the force. And the best. But you kept that quiet, the gnawing self doubt ate away at you, berating you constantly.
Unlocking the door to your home, you dropped the duffle bag at the door and toed off your boots. Making your way to the kitchen sink, you plunged your hands into too hot water and scrubbed away the dirt and blood until your skin was red. Your throat was scratchy from crying, your head pounding from exhaustion. The case you were working on was eating you alive. Two missing little girls. The latest lead had been a loss, a house full of scribbled mazes, a sink full of pigs blood and buried mannequins.
Showering did little to ease the tension in your body, the cheap beer and greasy pizza sprawled across the coffee table in front of you staved off the impending collapse another day longer. By the time David came home, your brain was fuzzy from the alcohol and you were falling into his embrace nestled into the couch.
The boy you met at thirteen was your savior, and 16 years later he still was. The world was crumbling around you, this case was consuming you, but David was with you. And tomorrow will always be there.

i just had a dream about detective loki being a dad and i woke up so sensitive 🥺 like he was the sweetest seriously he's so husband material i can't accept the fact i will never marry him life is so unfair
Babyyyy 😭😭😭😭
I know what you mean, how can they give a man that size such a sweet voice! I loved this so much that I accidentally wrote a whole HC thing replying this ask sos
Imagine him holding a newborn baby for the first time and he's simply desperate because he has no idea how to and he's so afraid to hold it!!!
And like... all these years of getting no sleep prepared him for this, because my man is not leaving that crib all night. Half of the time he wants to make sure the baby is okay, other half he just needs to look at it with tears in his eyes (perfect time in the dark, cause he doesn't cry on front of anyone, not even you) because he just can't believe he could create something so beautiful.
I'm gonna say that it wasn't easy for him when you first told him you were pregnant... he never in his entire life imagined himself being a dad, he's always been terrible with kids and he never had a dad himself
He was so so so afraid the baby would hate him
He was so so so afraid he was going to be mean and aggressive and the baby would be afraid of him
But what a SOFTIE he became
Certified girl dad, if you ask me
For the first time in his life he is leaving work early, because there's going to be a tea party with all her teddy bears
100% would wear a princess crow if his princess demands him to
She has him wrapped around her finger, he spoils her like MAD
Imagine him playing with Sylvanian families with hands that size
He was the most special bond with his little girl, but your relationship does change too
He's more romantic now... like that tiny human destroyed his resistance
And he just can't thank you enough for giving him his daughter
He worships you for it
Carries a picture of his girls everywhere <333
Okay, now I am sensitive, anon, thank you for this.

Summary: There were two things that David Loki knew to be true; 1. There was a mysterious cup of coffee on his table when ever he left the room. And 2. The woman he likes has no clue about his feelings.
Tumblr media
There were certain universal truths. The sun would come up, only to be replaced by the moon. Humans needed air, water, and food to survive. And David Loki was a workaholic. He was in the prescient by 6:00 A.M. and often left by 6:00 P.M. if there was no case. If there was a case, he spent the night in a jail cell bed instead of going home. He poured his heart and soul into his work. The other universal truth that would happen like clockwork; a coffee would always be waiting on his desk shortly before he arrived at work.
Some days, it would be there right as he walked to his desk for the first time. Some days, it would be there shortly after he left his desk in the morning after dropping off his stuff. If he was sleeping overnight, a fresh cup was waiting for him patiently outside the cell. For just about as long as he had worked in the station, this had happened. It infuriated the man. For years, David had yet to find out who this person was, or why they left a cup of coffee for him first thing in the morning. While he really appreciated the gesture, he would have preferred if he was able to know the identity of the person. Surprisingly, being a detective didn’t help. He didn’t notice anyone staring at him for a long time, or frequenting his area of the department more than they had to.
Eight years this had tortured him. Eight years of a cup of coffee every day he worked. Thousands of cups of coffee over the last eight years, and he still had no clue who left them for him. Loki realized a while ago that his secret admirer would remain a secret forever it seems. Sure, he had his theories, but they were for the most part probably credible, except one that he viewed as outlandish.
Theory number one: Cheryl. She worked as a secretary, essentially. Doing the filing, paperwork, organizing media and press. She always made sure to tell everyone that she had to leave the police academy for personal reasons, otherwise she would have been in uniform. Her leaving had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she was trying to sleep her way through the department to get passed through the academy. David always thought she was a decent worker, but she definitely was trying to not have to work super hard. Cheryl’s sights had been set on the detective since she set foot inside the department. Her advances used to be very brazen, until a few straight to the point shut downs turned her away from trying with Loki again. That didn’t stop the longing glances, and the rumors that she started to circulate. Rumors that they had in fact been together secretly but had to break it off. Most people just tuned her out; who would believe that David Loki would have the time for a partner?
One theory he hoped wasn’t true.
Theory number two: Jessie.
Jessie was a kind, older woman that looked after the prescient and its members. She brought in brownies, cookies, and food for the detectives and officers. David didn’t see much of her during his shift due to her work in the evidence room, but she was his only other legitimate theory. He could see her leaving the coffee on his desk, as she watched how he overworked himself. But there were definitely times that he had his normal coffee, and she had yet to show up for work or even work at all that day.
He wouldn’t mind that theory being true; sure as hell beats the first one. But that only left him with his last theory that he hoped was true, but was definitely not.
Theory number three: her. His crazy and outlandish theory, that he hoped was true but knew it wasn’t, was her. A quiet obsession with the woman had snuck up on him a few years ago. David never actively looked for a partner, being a workaholic and too concerned about doing his job than having a wife and kids. It didn’t mean that he didn’t want that life, but it never seemed to come up at an opportune moment. Either wrong person, or wrong place, but she made his mind want to work for that kind of life. All it took though was a few times of talking to each other, late into the evening, when they should have been home but instead were working on the same case. Loki didn’t like anyone else stepping in on his work, detective or officer. But, it just so happened that the captain had assigned them to work together on the case because of the sheer magnitude of it.
At first, Loki was vehemently opposed to the assignment, but so was she. They both thought they worked best alone, without a partner. As the case went on, they butted heads multiple times and even got in a screaming match with each other. But the next morning, she was waiting by his car with a cup of coffee before they were suppose to go out to do some recon. From that point forward, there was a sort of energy around the pair as they worked. There was more discussion about life outside of work, and their personal preferences. Many nights were spent at the Chinese restaurant pouring over theories about the case and suspects. It was one of those nights at the Chinese restaurant that Loki realized that something was changing between them.
~
“So what about this, what’s his name, Norman O’Shea? How do we feel about this guy? I mean he certainly has the rap sheet to lend itself to doing something like this.” Her question made David pause mid bite to think. He looked up to catch her eyes before looking back down to his food. Chewing over his food and thoughts, the man swallowed before responding.
“What’s he got on him? I thought he was the wrong physical type from eye witnesses? They said a grey haired man, no glasses, and a grey beard was near the kids when they noticed them gone. Not a glasses wearing, clean shaven, black haired creep.” Flipping through the folders, she stared at Loki with a ridiculous expression.
“Do you know how easy it is to dye your hair and have no traces of it anywhere? Especially if you have prep time and a space away from your main residence to do so? Besides we’ve got four different counts of child charges, including kidnapping a girl one time.” Both detectives took a break to eat as they thought about the information.
“He’s at least worth going and talking to.” Loki offered as they finished their dinners. She looked down at her almost finished plate of rice, and quietly chuckled to herself. The small chuckle made Loki’s lips quirk up into a somewhat smile while he let out an even smaller chuckle.
“What?” He asked quietly. Watching as she shook her head gently, her chuckle died and her smile turned sad.
“Nothing. Just…” she trailed off and let her eyes wander over the detective’s tattoos on his hands.
“Just, cases like this, you know? Just, they remind me of my sister. Makes me think of how proud she’d be that I’m trying to help other kids like us.” Her eyes glazed over, and David leaned closer to the woman across the table from him.
“Kids like you?” He repeated back to her. He watched as she was knocked out of whatever memory that she was trapped in. Her throat cleared, and she pushed her hair back.
“Yeah, kids like us.” She rolled up her sleeve to reveal the beautiful artwork adorning her arm. A spiraling network of flowers of all different kinds, attached to one branch spread all over her arm. It disappeared into the bicep and rest of her sleeve in one direction, and ending in a small bloom on her pinky finger in the other.
“My older sister and I were ten and five when we were orphaned. Drunk driver killed both of our parents. Well, we became wards of the state and were sent to a girls home nearby,” she noticed how Loki sat up straighter at the mention of a children’s home.
“For a few years everything was fine. But then funding got cut when we were about fourteen and nine, and the home started failing. They couldn’t keep good employees and everything was dirty. My sister and I, we-” she abruptly stopped, staring straight at the blossom on her pinky.
“When we were fifteen and ten, we were playing in the back of the home one day. We saw a few of the former employees pull up around the back where we were and they just had us. We trusted them. No one looked for us for three months. No one cared to. And the things we endured in the time between our capture to our rescue, it ended up killing my sister. She got an infection in one of the wounds on her leg. Two days later they finally found us, but it was too late for her. She died in my arms. When they got us, it had been almost a year to the day that we went missing.” Her hands started scratching at her own legs. Not scratching, picking. She was trying to pick at her skin through her jeans.
“Well that’s my sob story on why I became a detective. Sorry if I talk too much.” Her eyes adverted to the ground beside their table out of embarrassment. Loki didn’t know what to say after that. Having been through his own hardships, it was hard finding someone who understood why some people become the law. The law didn’t help either of them until it was too late; they kept themselves alive through hell. After having a moment of silence, Loki finally got his words back.
“I was at Huntington. The boys home.” She looked back up to now see David was staring at her, waiting for some sort of response.
“Huntington, huh? We were right next door at Doealair.” The two detectives started to chuckle, finding common ground in their childhoods.
“Here’s to messed up youth.” He raised his coffee cup in the air.
“To messed up youth.” She mirrored him and clinked their cups together.
~
From that night on, the two detectives became close. It was the closest thing that either one of them had to a friend in years. They would often get dinner together when time would allow, and they were the only one that the other would accept help from on cases. But it wasn’t enough that David thought he had a chance with her.
Sure, he looked out for the woman. He made sure that if she needed to take a break, he would usher her into a cell to sleep while he took on the paperwork. On a couple of occasions, he had driven her home because she was too tired to drive safely. David would ask for her opinions on cases when he was stuck, an implied ask for help was always there. He never voiced it aloud, but he cared for her more than he probably should. And it seemed that maybe she did too. She brought him food on long nights, and asked for his advice on cases. Generally, she held the same attitude towards the captain that he did: respect with a heaping cup of stay out of my investigation. She joined him in doing paperwork next to each other just so they would have a little bit of company. But it was still not enough to convince David that she was the culprit of the mysterious coffee.
Loki tossed and turned at night, always on edge. He never could get a full nights rest, which lent itself to the dark circles constantly around his eyes and his dependance on caffeine in the form of coffee. When he finally was able to pull himself out of bed, the drive to work took less time than normal. Which meant he was getting to work before he arrived, a full thirty minutes before he normally clocked in. Which meant, a full twenty minutes before she was suppose to be in. But when he got in, immediately, David was pulled into the captain’s office. For the entirety of his spare thirty minutes, he sat in there and listened to the man go on and on about the current case the detective was on. Nothing of importance was being said, just that he needed to wrap it up fast.
When Loki was finally released, it was time to get to work, which meant coffee. However, when he reached his desk, there was no coffee to be found. The man looked over at her desk, which had her stuff thrown haphazardly across, like she was in a rush. In any case, he made his way into the kitchen for his first of many cups of coffee, only to find a strange sight. There she was, making coffee. But another mug was next to her normal one; Loki’s normal mug was right next to hers. He watched from the threshold as she continued to make his coffee the same way he’d always drank it, no milk and two sugars. When she had nothing in her hands that could burn her, David spoke up.
“Is that my coffee?” He asked, startling the woman in front of him. She turned around fast and grasped her chest in fright. Several deep breaths were taken in, and she slowly recovered.
“Jesus David. Warn a girl next time.” Turning back to the coffees, she kept her eyes away from him. He stepped closer to her and leaned against the counter.
“Is that my coffee?” His question was repeated once more. Her gaze fell everywhere except his own eyes. She finished stirring the sugar into his coffee and dropped the stir stick in the garbage.
“Yes.” She quietly admitted as she slid the cup over to the man carefully. Loki accepted it and took a sip. Just how he liked his coffee. They stood there in silence, taking small sips from their coffee and not speaking about the obvious tension now in the room.
“Have you even leaving me coffees this whole time?” There it was. The question that demanded an answer. There was no way for her to lie; he caught her in the act of making his coffee. No one else in this department would know that the man liked a little sugar in his coffee. Everyone probably assumed he took it straight up. And now, she had to answer for her actions. Suddenly, her face felt hot. She was starting to think that this is what people felt like getting interrogated.
“Yes.” Another simple response.
“Why?” The question sounded simple, but they both knew that the answer was going to be anything but.
“Because, you deserve nice things. Even if it is just a cup of coffee now and then.” Her eyes still were looking away, having found her shoes to be the most interesting thing in the world at that moment. But they quickly became Loki’s shoes that she focused on as they stepped closer.
“Well, I’d like to return the favor. Maybe you’ll let me treat you to dinner tonight?” She shot up like a rocket at his words. Having expected him to deny her affections, this was certainly a turn for the better. She never thought she’d live to see the day that David Loki, tattooed, reclusive, badass detective, would look shy. But he did. He looked nervous to hear her response.
“Are you asking me out, Loki?” Her teasing words made the man crack a somewhat smile. They both knew what she wanted; a clear and direct proposal for a date.
“Maybe I am. Would you go out with me tonight?” He asked, this time a surge of confidence ran through him.
“A cup of coffee for a date? Seems like a fair trade. I’d like to go out with you tonight, David.” A full smile broke out across both of their faces, and they allowed themselves to bask in the moment before they inevitably had to get back to work. Going back to work was more difficult than before. Both detectives had to school their expressions as to not raise suspicions. And they had to be careful on how many times they glanced over at one another. But neither one could shake the butterflies from their stomach the entire day. Yeah, a cup of coffee a day might just bring someone tall, dark and handsome your way.

After checking for Keller Dover everywhere- his house, the liquor stores, the church the family attended, and the creepy small town survival gear store- he was no where to be found. You even showed people his picture and asked if they’d seen him, but no luck.
Where in the hell else could he have been??
Ugh
Poor Alex Jones..Can’t believe Keller would do that to him- Wait.
A sick feeling came over you, the kind of feeling you got when looking a murderer in the eyes, or when you get a confession in the interrogation room from someone you know is guilty. That feeling.
Maybe Dover was having a PTSD episode, a psychotic break, or worse, a murderous rampage- His missing daughter driving him to the brink of insanity. He always blamed Alex for the girl’s disappearance, but now that he was done with Alex, maybe he got it in his mind to go after Holly Jones next.
Now knowing what Keller was capable of, you jumped in the car and drive out to the Jones’ residence. You didn’t want Holly to end up like her son.
You called Loki, seeing if he would meet you at the Jones’s place. Better to have a partner in these types of situations.
It rang and rang until it went to voicemail.
Weird.
He usually picked up on the first couple of rings.
That’s okay though. You’d just go by yourself, proceeding with extra caution.
You never thought more of Keller Dover than a concerned parent, in light of recent events, maybe Loki’s obsession with the man wasn’t completely unfounded.
As you headed to the Jones residence, that sick feeling only grew. Nagging at you from the inside.
You tired to call Loki again.
No answer.
Your next step was to call O’Malley, maybe he knew why Loki wasn’t answering.
“O’Malley.” He answered quickly.
“Have you heard from Loki recently?”
“I sent him to notify Holly Jones about Alex about, oh-“ he paused. “A little bit ago.”
Your stomach dropped, your mind automatically assumed the worst. Not that David couldn’t handle himself, but that you tended to worry.
“Why, is everything alright?” He asked,
“I can’t reach Loki, phones going to voicemail. I’ve been searching for Keller Dover, I thought Dover might’ve gone for Holly or something. I’m gonna go over there and check.”
“Let me know if I need to send a unit over.”
“Thanks captain.”
You decided to hightail it to the Jones’ residence. Safely of course, the unfamiliar Pennsylvania roads combined with the darkness and the sleet made driving difficult.
As you were driving, your mind was on Loki. Of course you were thinking about Anna, but in the back of your mind was the earlier unfinished conversation between you and Loki. All the ‘what if’ scenarios swirled around in your brain. What did he want to talk to you about? It was killing you. You thought there was a chance Loki liked you, but he was hard to read. At this point there’s no denying your crush on the man. You didn’t know how much longer you’d be in Conyers, maybe you should rack up the courage to make a move.
The tiniest bit of flashing blue light caught your attention from down the road.
The lights looked like they were heading towards you.
Oh
They were.
They were police lights.
But they weren’t big lights that sat on top like a squad car, no. They were the kind like on a detective’s car.
The car was going fast; recklessly so.
Erratic and urgent.
Before you could get a good look at it, the car zoomed past you, barely giving you time to think.
That wasn’t Loki’s car, was it?
The little bit of it you saw, it did look like it. The pitch black of the Pennsylvania back country made it particularly difficult to see.
You pulled out your phone to call him again.
When it went straight to voicemail, you knew you couldn’t ignore your gut feeling any longer.
Fuck it.
You whipped the car around to follow the other car. It was so far ahead you couldn’t catch up, the faint blue lights your only guide.
Your pulse pounded in your ears as you followed who you were now sure was Loki.
Where are you going in such a hurry, Loki? And why? Why won’t you call me back?
You went ahead and called O’Malley and had him send a unit out to the Jones’ residence. But that was really all you could do, besides hope and pray everything was alright.

Loki barged into the ER with a limp Anna Dover in his arms.
His desperate cries for help rang throughout the hospital, demanding the attention of the doctors and pulling the heartstrings of all who were near.
Once she was safely in the hands of the doctors and his adrenaline wore off, he felt white hot heat radiating from his head.
His was vision blurry from the blood in his eyes, or maybe it was from the pain.
The pain.
The fucking pain.
It was a burning, stinging pain that hit him like a ton of bricks.
There was a sharp ringing that invaded his eardrums and he suddenly felt lightheaded, but he needed to stay awake..he needed to move his car from the ER entrance and needed to tell the captain what happened and needed to make sure Anna was okay, and needed (y/n) to..(y/n).. (y/n).
The last thing he remembered was mumbling something to the nurse before his vision faded to black.
-
You shifted in your seat and the old chair creaked under your weight. The nurse had offered to bring in a extra bed for you, but you declined, not wanting to take away form someone who really needed it.
But your ass going numb convinced you that you should’ve at least asked for a better chair.
Loki had been moved out of the ER and into a room for observation.
He laid there all bandaged up, sleeping..well he was unconscious, but saying he was sleeping made you feel better.
Loki wasn’t one of those people who looked peaceful when he slept, his permanent scowl still ingrained on his face.
That beautiful, pouty scowl.
Staring at Loki, you felt a tinge of guilt in your bones. You should’ve figured out it was Holly Jones all along, maybe you could’ve been there with Loki and things would’ve turned out differently.
The forensics team was able to speculate what happened based on the crime scene and, upon further digging, found evidence of dozens of child abductions.
Loki could’ve died. If the bullet went just a few inches over, it would’ve been a whole different story.
You quickly shook the thought form your head, he was here and he was okay. Joy and Anna were alive. Although it was almost a happy ending, it definitely wasn’t the ending to this case you expected.
-
You pulled the car to a screeching halt outside the ER entrance, Loki’s car still sitting outside. Lights on and doors open.
Shit shit shit
You barged in the doors, making a beeline for the front desk, but the commotion of doctors working on a dark haired man caught your eye.
Your stomach dropped.
Loki
He wasn’t conscious.
There was so much blood all over his face.
You closed the distance between you and them in two seconds flat.
“Is he okay?! Whats going on?!” You pleaded with the doctor to let you know something.
“A gunshot wound to the head, just passed out on us.”
A gunshot wound. To the head.
“Is he going to be okay?!” You asked, panicked.
“It only grazed him. We will keep you updated. Now, Ma’am step back please, let us work.”
You stepped back from the medical staff surrounding the detective, giving them their space.
“Please be ok Loki, please” you whispered.
You felt like the air had been knocked out of you. He can’t die, not like this.
You stood there in a daze, watching the doctor and nurses buzz around Loki. You lifted a trembling hand to brush the hair from your face and noticed how clammy your hands were. Suddenly, you were aware of a tightness in your chest and tears pricking the corners of your eyes.
A panic attack.
You tried to force your feet to carry you outside, the cold air would be good to dissolve your panic, but they felt like they were glued to the floor.
When your patients were in crisis you reminded them to do things that were in their control.
Maybe you should take your own advice.
Forcing your brain back into work mode, You turned to go move the cars from the ER entrance and take care of things, but you stopped dead in your tracks noticing the little girl two beds down from Loki.
Anna.
.
“Are you sure about the bed?” The nurse asked as she came in to check on the detective.
“Yeah I’m sure, thank you though.”
“If you change your mind let me know.”
“Thanks.” You replied, thankful for her kindness and her gentleness with David.
She’s nice.
“So how long have you all been together?” She asked, her innocent effort to make small talk turning awkward quickly.
“Oh we’re not…uh..” you stuttered, feeling your cheeks flush
“Oh I’m sorry, I just thought since he asked for you..that..well you know...” She said, giving you a small smile.
“He asked for me?”
“Yeah. Last thing he said before he passed out.”
You couldn’t help the grin that plastered itself onto your face and those pesky butterflies that formed in your gut.

2:14 AM.
David stirred from his slumber, a groan escaping his lips. He cracked an eye open, the harsh hospital lights making him cringe.
Hey! He was alive!
He still had ten working fingers and toes. Arms and legs still worked. He was alive and intact, thankful he was in one piece. It was a real miracle he avoided a car crash on the way here.
His fingers brushed over bandages on his injury. In the back of his mind, David knew he’d end up with a massive headache, but every beat of his heart sending pain to his wound was a little much for him. He looked around for the call nurse button. His heart skipped a beat when he looked to his left.
“(Y/n)” he whispered. There she was asleep in the hospital chair. That familiar fuzzy feeling flooded his chest at full force. What was she doing here? How did she know he was here?
He chuckled slightly at the sight of her. How she was able to sleep in such a cramped position, he didn’t know, and how she was able to look so adorable doing so was also a mystery.
(Y/n) was only a moment’s distraction before the throbbing pain returned to his head, he smashed the call nurse button, the commotion awaking (y/n).
Startled, she shot straight up out of the chair. In the few seconds it took her to recognize that it was indeed Loki who pushed the call button and not that he was dying or some other medical emergency, her eyes grew wide and her smile widened.
“You’re awake!” You exclaimed.
“(Y/n), it was Holly!” Loki said, trying to sit up, a groan escaping his lips as he did so. “Where’s Anna? Did she make it? You gotta get the CSU out to the Jones’ right now- she shot me-“
“Loki everything’s okay!” You assured him as you scurried to his bedside, gently grabbing his shoulders and making him lay back down.
Classic Loki, mind always on the case even when he’s laying in the hospital.
“Anna made it, she’s gonna recover. I already took care of everything.” You said, sitting on the edge of the bed.
“You did? How did you-“
“You need to rest.” You interrupted him, smoothing out his blanket, your fingers brushed his- only for a moment.
In that moment, your eyes locked and only then did David truly take a deep breath to calm down.
“How did you know?” He asked.
“I didn’t” you explained. “I was searching for Dover and was worried he’d gone to Holly to do what he did to Alex. I passed you on the way and followed your car back here. The scene has been processed and everything. We can get your statement in the morning, Loki.”
David breathed out a heavy sigh of relief
“Thanks, (l/n) You’re the best.”
“Thanks.” You said softly, unable to hide your blushing at Loki’s compliment.
“Just tell me what happened.”
Before the two of you could exchange any more words, the nurse came scurrying in to the room.
She upped his morphine dosage and cleaned his bandage, then made sure the two of you comfortable. Once again you praised the heavens for her kindness.
Once she left, David went into detail about what happened.
You listened intently, hanging on to his every word.
When he finished, you dropped the eye contact you and David were holding.
“I’m sorry, I should’ve figured out that it was Holly Jones sooner, maybe you wouldn’t gotten hurt and-“
“Hey-hey. it’s not your fault.” he said gently, reaching out to take your hand.
Maybe it was the morphine or the near death experience, but either way David was feeling bold.
Your heart could’ve stopped in that moment, was now a good time to confess your feelings? Should you?
You opted to offer him a small smile instead, you figured he’d been through enough tonight.
“I’m just glad you’re okay.” You told him.
David caressed the back of your knuckles with his thumb sending pleasant chills through you.
“Me too.” He replied.
“So do you need anything? Anything I can do?” You offered.
“I keep a emergency bag in my desk-“
“Got it!” You enthusiastically hopped up, ready to help in any way you could, but David didn’t let go of your hand.
“Wait! Don’t leave. Please.” You stopped in your tracks, glad he wanted you to stay.
“Let O’Malley bring my bag. Please stay.” David begged, those sad blue eyes got you, but he didn’t have to beg. You’d do anything he asked of you.
You sat back down on the edge of the bed.
“Thank you.” He said, his eyes growing heavy.
“Get some rest ok? I’ll be right here.” You said, smoothing his blanket out once again. When you got up to sit back in the chair, you could feel David’s eyes on you.
“What?” You inquired.
“Nothin’.” He murmured, only flashing you a small smile.
You flicked the overhead light off so you could both rest.
You’d definitely tell him how you felt in the morning.
-
David’s eyes lingered on (y/n) as she got up to turn off the light. He should’ve told her how he felt right then.
“What?” She questioned, catching him staring.
David hesitated.
Just tell her, David. Come on.
“Nothin’.” He responded with a tired voice and heavy eyes. He dropped the conversation, opting to let her rest. They’d been through enough tonight. They’d talk in the morning.
-
You made a trip to the cafeteria for breakfast while David showered and changed clothes.
“Hey, hey, look at you, all clean and such.” You praised Loki, coming into the room with coffee and bagels.
David chuckled at your remarks.
“Thanks. Hey, look at this-“
You sat on the bed next to David, leaning in to see the paper.
Barry Milland AKA Alex Jones reunited with family after 26 years
“Poor Barry.” You mumbled.
Lokis eyes stayed glued to the paper, but yours wandered up to his wound.
He looked a lot better this morning and was doing much better.
“It’s rude to stare you know.” Loki teased, cracking a sly smile.
“Yeah, well, you look like shit.” You teased back, a cheesy grin plastered itself across your face.
You tried to hold in your amusement as Loki gave you a funny look, but couldn’t help it as giggles escaped your lips.
Then, Loki started laughing too.
It was a good laugh. A real one.
After laughing too long at your own joke, you looked over at David, only to find him already looking at you.
Loki’s expression was soft, his usual scowl nowhere to be found.
“What?” You questioned.
Loki, seemingly mesmerized by you, was at a loss for words. His brain? Total mush.
You noticed his eyes moving between your eyes and lips, searching for a sign.
You leaned in, closing the gap between you and the detective- Loki’s sign that yes you wanted this. You wanted this since the moment you laid eyes on him. Finally.
Your lips connected oh so gently but in a way that sent sparks down your spine. The kiss was soft and-
“Detective Loki? Agent (l/n)?”
The two of you pulled apart quickly
There was Grace, Anna, Joy and Nancy all standing at the door.
Loki cleared his throat and you both tired to act like she didn’t interrupt.
“I hope we’re not intruding.”
Loki shook his head and mumbled “no” even though they obviously were. But you knew it’s be good for him to see the girls.
It particularly warmed your heart hearing her refer to Loki as a hero.
They continued talked for a minute, well, Grace Keller did, Loki was a man of few words. You had the thought to weigh in, but you couldn’t concentrate, those damn butterflies in your stomach were doing somersaults.
“Thank you two, for everything.”
Grace said and turned to leave, but stopped at the door, breaking down in tears. She tried convincing you and Loki Keller was a good man, but you and Loki exchanged knowing looks.
Not prepared to face the awkwardness of the situation, you couldn’t bring yourself to look at the detective after she left.
Lucky for you, Loki suddenly grabbed your chin, tilting your head towards him and his lips captured yours in a hungry and needy kiss.
A stark contrast to your kiss a minute prior, fire burned through your chest as your lips moved in sync with David’s.
Loki moved his hand to cup your cheek and you absolutely melted into his touch.
You broke apart from David, breathless and with a smile on your face.
“Sorry I didn’t do that sooner.” David said, his thumb stroking your cheekbone,
“Yeah me too.” You replied, still high from the bliss of your first kiss with the handsome detective.
“Look, (l/n), I uh-“
“Hey..Call me (f/n)” you interrupted, sad that David removed his hand from your cheek.
“Okay, (f/n),” he said. “I’m uh not too good with feelings and shit, but I uh, I really like you.”
“I like you too.” You gushed.
Davids eyes lit up, almost like a kid on Christmas.
“You do?” He questioned.
“Yes David, I do.” You gave him a reassuring smile. “And that kiss told me all I needed to know.”
David blushed.
David Loki blushing, you didn’t think such a thing could happen.
“Glad you enjoyed it.” He said, a smug smile replacing his blushing cheeks.
Your turn to blush.
“How do you uh, feel about long distance? I mean I’ve never done it before- but I’d be down to..you know.
“Me neither, but I think we make a pretty good team, so I think we can make it work.”
Yes!! He wanted to make this work. Now the butterflies in your belly weren’t just doing somersaults, it was more like the butterfly Olympics down there.
“Yeah?” He questioned, giddy like a child.
“Yeah.” You assured him, giving his arm a squeeze.
The day shift nurse came in to finally discharge David. She sent him home with a dozen care info papers and aftercare instructions, none of which David was likely to read or follow through with.
“Let’s get you home.” You said. “At least for a bit.” You knew Loki would not stop searching for Keller Dover. He was determined, you’d give him that. You also weren’t gonna let Loki drive home by himself after being shot in the head, even though he insisted he was fine.
“Yeah. Home.” He agreed.
David’s thoughts began to race while you began to gather your things.
Loki was hopeful, for the first time in a long time. He had a feeling that, eventually, home would be wherever (y/n) was.

Homemade Meals and Films | Detective Loki x m!reader
@areyouwaiting asked: well here I am
Det. Loki x male reader
“You’re not eating that shit, I’ll make you something decent” as a prompt because that bitch doesn’t eat right
Thanks <33
summary: Loki has shit eating habits, but you've finally got an excuse to change that.
tws: swearing, mentions of smoking
Admittedly, when he was working, Loki ate like shit. He also slept like it. Black coffee and occasional snacks throughout the day weren't exactly any good for him, neither were cigarettes and cans of Red Bull. Sure, he could have easily gotten something a little better, or at least filling, at any of the fast food and takeaway places that were around, as they were open for a good chunk of the day and they were nice and cheap, but Loki rarely ever went there; usually, he found himself sat in the same cafe drinking the same shit as always. He never ate properly, never drank properly, he never slept properly; every day, he would come home to you in the exact same state. Hungry. Tired. Looking like a bag of shit that had been dragged through a bush backwards. In all the years you had known him, and in all the years since that you had been dating, you had always wanted to change that; you wanted to make sure that he was properly fed, that he wasn't just drinking black coffee and that he was actually getting some fucking sleep, but you had never gotten the chance.
Until tonight. Until he came home at quarter past two in the morning, when the air was cold and the wind was howling and the rain was on tap, when the streets were quiet and the biggest worry you had was making sure that the television would pause before 'Train to Busan' started on the film channel. You made sure that you had everything set up just right; the bedding changed and still warm from the tumble dryer, the scent of leather coating the air in the room, the lights turned off except for the little lamp that sat in the corner, the duvet chucked on the sofa as the television froze when you pressed the pause button. The film would start in half an hour. Pots and pans on the stove as you decided that you would make the thing that would be best for him: a good strong curry. Thankfully you had enough spices and herbs that it would actually taste of something and that it would actually have a kick to it instead of that mild bullshit people often had. A good strong curry; filling, good for the body, and good for the mind.
Loki came home just as you were pulling the vegetables out, laying them in order beside the wooden chopping board; he didn't think much of it, draping himself across your back and kissing your neck sweetly as he grumbled so softly. "What are you doing?"
"I know you went to the café," you started, grabbing a peeled onion and starting to chop it up. "And you're not eating that shit, I'll make you something decent - I'm gonna make you a curry."
He smiled, nuzzling into the back of your neck as he closed his eyes and grumbled again, ever so faint and ever so soft; he could smell the spices already, making his stomach growl as he did his best not to complain about it. The top buttons of his shirt were undone, and he could feel the slight shiver from the winter air begin to creep its way up, making him clench his jaw. "What kinda curry?"
"It's a veggie Phaal," you told him. "It'll be good for you, trust me."
"How?"
"It's filling," you started, "so it'll fill your stomach more than black coffee and fucking snacks. It's balanced and nutritious... and it's good for the mind."
Loki grumbled again. "How?"
"It tastes good," you chuckled softly. "And stuff that tastes good is always good for the mind... but don't worry - there's a horror film on tonight, so I figured, y'know, we could snuggle down after eating. Watch it together. I brought the duvet down, too."
He couldn't stop the smile that came to him as he turned around and looked at the sofa; the thick duvet smothering it, the frozen television screen, he recognised the lumps of pillows beneath the duvet, too. "Thank you."
"It's not a big deal," you scoffed. "I mean, I'm your boyfriend - isn't it part of the territory that I gotta look after you?"
"Well, yeah, but-"
"Then go sit down," you told him gently. "Get yourself comfortable, and we'll eat, watch a film, and then go to bed."
All Loki could do was nod as he dared to pull away from you, thinking to himself how lucky he was that he had such a caring boyfriend as he got himself comfortable amongst the duvet and the pillows; maybe one day, there would be a canopy in your future. Maybe one day, there would be a glass to step on. Maybe. If you put up with him long enough.

Aww I love your writing so much!!!! 🩷🩷 The detective Loki A-Z felt so accurate 🥹 he’s so precious. Can you write something that kind of goes off the jealousy area? Like it’s a coworker who reader gets close with and is honestly clueless to the flirting?
F o r g i v e n
a/n: here you go, nonny! i couldn't agree more. David is my baby and he deserves some happiness and a warm hug
pairing: Detective David Loki x reader
summary: a new co-worker makes a misguided move on the reader and david gets pissed
warnings: language, angst, arguing (if i missed one, lemme know. minors, do not interact!)
SHARING IS CARING, SO PLEASE REBLOG
Tumblr media
Sliding your legs over the edge of your side of the bed, you sit up and rub the sleep from your eyes. David’s on the phone with O’Malley. You already know he’s gotta go into work today.
“Yeah, I’ll be there in 30 tops” he says lowly in his gravely morning voice before hanging up his cell phone.
“I’ll make breakfast” you smile sleepily at him.
You reach out to reassuringly squeeze his arm to let him know it’s alright. He’s already mentally beating himself up for waking you up and not being able to be enjoy his morning off with you as he had promised.
You make your way through the one-story house and head to the kitchen to get his coffee going. You decide on making a hearty breakfast because you know very well David will skip lunch today.
So, you settle for a nice egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich on toasted bagels with cream cheese. You make two for him so he can take one to work and hopefully eat while he’s on the road. You even cut up some bananas, apples, strawberries and oranges to make a little fruit salad.
David isn’t the healthiest guy around, but he deeply appreciates that you care for him and his health. He never really had anyone to care about him – much less his health – so he’ll sure make to eat every bite.
You hear his electric razor shut off after his shower. A while later, he comes into the kitchen with his hair slicked back. His light blue button-up shirt is open, exposing his white sleeveless undershirt. His gold chain dangles and dances around his neck as he buttons the cuffs of his shirt.
You can’t help but smile to yourself. You wish you could stop him and slide his button-up off. You love it when he wears his undershirt and chain around the house.
“Honey, think you can get a ride to work today?” he asks kissing the back of your head as you slice up the fruit.
“Yeah, babe. It’s no problem. I already texted Jared and asked him to pick me up.”
His hands working the buttons closed on his front stop as his eyes narrow in on the back of your head.
“Jared? You already texted him?”
“Yeah. I figured you’d leave before me.”
“Oh…”
You know that there’s something he’s holding back from you. You turn your head to glance at him, hoping to get a read of him as you slide the chopped-up fruit in a container.
“Is there a problem with that?”
You already know the answer to that.
“No. Nothing. Just didn’t know you and Jared were so close already. I mean, didn’t he just start there like two weeks ago?”
His eyebrows rise and his lip press flat as he looks down at his hands, letting them finish their work on his shirt.
“Two months ago, but he was pretty much on his own, so I figured I’d be the first to befriend him. The first weeks are the worst when you start working at a new place.”
“Yeah, I get that. Just didn’t think you were already texting each other.”
“Dave, there’s nothing going on between us if that’s what you’re thinking.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to. Your face says it all.”
You’re slightly hurt that he would think there could be something brewinh between you and Jared. It may come from a place of worry, but isn't that trust is for?
“Look, I gotta get going. I’ll see you tonight.”
You nod as you hand him the containers of sandwiches and his travel mug. He leaves you with a kiss on your forehead and you watch him leave, letting the tension hang in the air. You try to put it on the mental backburner as you head up to get ready for your day.
Hearing a honk coming from outside, you look out the window and confirm Jared’s arrival. You grab your bag, keys and phone before heading out the door and walking to Jared’s car.
“Hey, Jare. Thanks for the late-notice lift. David got called in and my car’s still at the shop.”
“You know I don’t mind it at all. It’s been almost a couple days though. Have they given you any updates on it?”
“Something about the starting motor failing. Solenoid damage, I think? They have to replace some coils or some shit.”
“That shouldn’t take more than a few hours to replace though.”
“David says the same thing. He’s getting pretty impatient. Said he’s gonna stop by there today to check up. You know how some mechanics can be when they see a girl with car trouble.” You complete with a roll of your eyes.
“Yeah, some pricks take advantages. I know a thing or two about cars. I’d be happy to look into it for you if you want?”
“Really? Yeah, yeah. That’d be great. I’m gonna wait for David though. He said he’d stop by there today. I’ll give you a heads up though.”
After arriving to work, you head straight for your sector to settle in. You can’t help but notice how kind Jared seems to be towards you in this new light that David casted earlier in the morning.
Jared always offers to refill your water bottle whenever he gets up, always offers snacks, brings you back your favorite coffee or tea after his breaks, compliments your hair or nails or even your perfume. During the whole day, you can’t help but notice he doesn’t treat his other co-workers the same. You begin to wonder if you’ve led him on to believe you’re more than just co-workers or if it’s because he’s new and not very close to the others.
You decide to shake the thought from your head and go on about your work. However, with this new concept in the back of your mind, you start to politely deny Jared’s kind offers. He doesn’t seem hurt by it. A small wave of relief washes over you. Maybe you were just in over your head and overthinking what David had told you.
Around closing time, Jared stops by your station to check if you need a ride home. You check your phone, hoping David texted you with a reply about picking you up, but there’s no new messages.
Your heart sinks a bit. You’d hoped he could’ve at least replied. Is he really that upset with you?
“Yeah, I could use a ride.”
The house isn’t very far. You could walk home, but the rain is already pouring down heavy. And this time of year, the cold winter air is starting to arrive, slickening the streets and sidewalks with ice.
You smile to hide that you wished you didn’t need a ride from Jared. You know it’s not gonna make things easier to deal with at home.
Part of you thinks David is acting ridiculously like a child that's too selfish to share a toy. Only you’re not a toy. You’re a human being and you’re his fiancée. You’re supposed to be getting married.
The other part of you wonders how you would feel if it were the other way around. If he had a new partner on the job and spent hours with her. With everything Jared does for you, would you be ok with someone else treating David the same way?
Trying to settle the internal dispute, you remember that it’s your intentions that really counts. You’re not breaking his trust because you have no intention of getting with Jared. You’re friends and that’s all there is. And you would want David to have a good friend too in your situation.
You walk out together, gabbling on about the day as you climb into his car.
As Jared turns onto your street, you’re laughing over an amusing situation you’d survived in your first week at the company with an unsatisfied client. Jared had had his first unpleasant interaction with a frustrated client. Although he handled it pretty well, he was still a bit disappointed about it.
Grateful the rain has let up, you notice Dave’s car parked in the driveway. Why didn’t he at least text you back if he was home? You feel a slight pang in your chest, but you shove it down as you continue your conversation. Jared knows your line of though has been thrown off and he can only guess it has to do with the black Crown Victoria perched in front of the garage.
“It can happen to anyone,” you say looking up at the tall brown-haired co-worker as he turns the car off, parking in front of your house. You hear a door close from outside and keys jingling, but you don’t think much of it. Most of your neighbors get home at this time as well.
“You can’t please everybody and you have to accept that,” you resume looking down at the dashboard. “You’re not here to please, you’re here to do your job.”
“You’re an amazing person, you know that?”
Something is different about the way Jared is looking at you. It’s intense and you don’t like it.
He leans over the arm rest/storage compartment separating the front seats and places a surprising kiss on your cheek.
You quick react by pulling yourself back and gently push him away with a hand on his shoulder.
“Whoa, Jared. That’s sweet, but i-it’s not like that. We’re just friends. You realize that, right?” you ask frowning at him. “I’m happily engaged.”
“Y-yeah... I figured. I thought I-I’d shoot my shot. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.” He looks down embarrassed as his cheeks blush a bright regretful shade of red. “I misread things. I’m sorry. That’s on me. I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine. Just… Don’t do that again, alright?”
“Yeah. Definitely will not” he chuckles nervously. “It won’t happen again. I promise. Just like you said, we’re only friends.”
You’re not really sure how to react. You can tell he feels really awkward about the whole thing, but you just want to get out of there as quickly as possible.
Flashing a shy, nervous smile at him, you thank him for the ride and climb out of the car. You slowly walk up the concrete path, digging through you bag for your keys.
Upon finding them, you look up and freeze.
David is standing in the path, glaring at the young man in the car. As he keeps his furious gaze locked on Jared, his hands move to rest on his hip. Pushing back his black winter jacket, his gold badge and his standard issue gun are exposed to remind Jared of who he is.
You don’t realize it’s a non-verbal threat. You just think he’s pissed judging by the constant hard blinking of his eyes.
“David, it’s not what you th-“ you start only to be cut off.
“In the house. Right now.”
He has a point. This isn’t a topic to discuss outside for all your neighbors to hear.
You walk quietly past him and march up the porch. You leave the door open for him, but he’s not far behind you. Only a couple moments since he’d been staring Jared down until he finally drove away.
The door slams as he enters the house.
“Are you fucking serious? There’s nothing going on, right?” He asks loudly and angrily.
“Yes, there’s nothing going on, Dave.” You say trying to stay calm, unwilling to match his tone. You’d be angry too in his place.
“You expect me to believe that after what I just saw?!”
“Yes, because that’s the truth. I know how that looked like. He thought I was sending him signs of interest. I won’t lie about that. But I didn’t want him to do that. There is absolutely no interest on my behalf!”
“The fucking chicken hawk just kissed you!”
“I didn’t want him to! I told him that! Maybe if you had picked me up from work or at least fucking texted me back, I wouldn’t have gotten in that fucking car in the first place!” you seethe at him.
“Oh, so this is my fault??” he snaps back at you bewildered.
He opens his mouth to speak, but just in that same moment, his cell phone rings. A hushed ‘fuck’ escapes from his lips as he answers the call. You just roll your eyes and fold your arm across your chest because you already know what that means.
The conversation is quick. You can’t tell much; all you know is that Captain O’Malley is calling him into the station.
“We’re not done on this”, he says with a raised finger in your direction and opens the door behind him.
The door slams shut. You close your eyes and lean against the wall, wishing you had never gotten in that car.
Dragging your tired body up the stairs, you make your way to your room. You notice the comforter is rumpled on David’s side along with his pillows. It’s not as you had it in the morning; it was neat and made to look inviting. You sigh and run a hand through your hair. Now you know why he didn’t answer you at first; he had fallen asleep.
You set your bag atop of the dresser that you share. You dig out your phone to set it to charge. There’re a couple unread messages and 2 missed calls; all from David and right around the time you’d left work.
Sorry, babe. Fell asleep and just woke up.
On my way right now!
You feel guilty thinking about how you could’ve avoided the whole ordeal. Now, David is mad at you and you’re mad at him for thinking that you wanted Jared to kiss you.
You head into the ensuite bathroom to shower and let the water wash away the stress of your day. As the warm water pours over you, you just hope this isn’t what ends your relationship.
Once you’re cleaned and a bit more relaxed, you go about the house to start on some of the chores. Deciding on a simple, quick and easy dinner, you sit on the couch to eat by yourself.
It’s been hours since David’s left and you miss him. You just want him to come home, so you can tell him how much you miss and love him.
You look down at your phone. He read your “I’m sorry” text, but he hasn’t replied. You wonder if it’s because he’s busy or he just doesn’t want to talk to you.
Wanting to stay up and wait for him, you start on the dirty dishes and pots in the kitchen. Then the laundry. You can’t stay still. It bothers you too much and you have to stay awake. There’s nothing left to do around the house, so you plot back down on the couch and surf through the channels to try to find something to watch.
It’s around midnight when you hear his car pull into the driveway. You race to the window to look out and make sure it’s him. He looks tired as he approaches the house with his keys in hand. His shoulders are hunched from the weight of the day’s stress.
You stand by the window and watch as he drags himself inside. He closes the door and hangs up his jacket before kicking his boots off. His back is turned to you and he hasn’t seen you yet.
When he does, he gazes at you for a moment. He’s too tired to argue, but he loves the fact that you’re wearing his sweater.
“You hungry? I made dinner. I can make you a plate,” you say softly breaking the silence.
“Yeah, I could eat.”
It’s quiet between you both. It’s a moment of cease fire. The elephant is still in the room, but you know how his weighs heavily on him. Especially with the case he’s working on. You don’t know much about it. David likes to keep that away from you. All you know is what you heard on the news and that there are kids involved. Those types of cases hit too close to home for him.
You leave him to eat in peace and tell him that you’re heading up to bed.
Assuming he’ll sleep on the couch since he must be upset still, you head to the bathroom to have a final tinkle before bed and brush your teeth. You crawl into bed and hug your pillow as you stare at the wall, luminated only by the fluorescent orange light of the street lamps.
Tears prick your eyes. You hate this distance between you and him. It’s ridiculous, but you know it’s not the time for it.
You hear David’s footsteps coming up the stairs and down the hall. The door creaks as he walks into the bedroom.
He goes about his usual routine; set his ring and chain on top of the dresser along with his badge. Then he walks over to the nightstand to open the drawer there. He pulls his gun from it's holster and makes sure its' safety is on. He had set it before already, but it never hurt to double check.
Soon after setting the gun in the lockbox within the drawer, he quietly makes his way to the bathroom. He opens the squeaky faucet and water pours from the shower.
He doesn’t take long. It’s a quick shower to wash his hair and body. He’s too tired to do more than he has to.
You hear him come into the room to grab a pair of boxers from his drawers. He seems quiet and still. Though your back is turned to him, you feel his eyes on you.
He stands still, hands on the wooden dresser as he mentally contemplates what to do. He knows it wasn’t your fault. He knows it wasn’t you who kissed Jared. He saw you pull away and push him back. He knows you didn’t like it or expect it just as much as him.
His head drops and his eyes close. In truth, the time at work had kept him too busy to think about it much, but he did think about you. Part of him felt you were like a victim, caught up in the crime with no fault. The other part of him wondered what could have happened to influence Jared to kiss you.
With a heavy sigh, you sense his footsteps approaching the bed. You expect to feel the wool blanket at the foot of the bed slide off along with his pillow.
To your surprise, you feel the comforter lifts behind you allowing a cool breeze to creep onto your back. Your heart beats faster. The mattress dips with his heavy frame. And you feel an arm drape over your waist.
“You awake?” His voice is a whisper in the dark.
You reply with a nod. You don’t want him to see you’re crying, though you know it’s inevitable.
“Can we talk?”
You quickly wipe your eyes in an attempt to omit the evidence of your pain. Turning onto your other side, you’re face to face. His hand doesn’t leave your waist. You let him slide underneath your shirt to feel your warmth.
“I don’t wanna fight. I don’t wanna argue,” he starts.
“Neither do I, Dave.” Your voice is soft as you reach to tenderly hold his bicep. You want to pull him close and hold him forever, but that might be too much.
“Are you really happy being with me?”
Your heart breaks to think that he feels like you might not be happy with him. You open your mouth to answer him, desperate to chase away his fear, but he continues.
“I know I’m not the best partner. I know for sure I haven’t been in the past. In some relationships, I didn’t even try to be. But I’m trying, sweetheart. I’m trying real hard because I love you and I want to be with you. I don’t know if it’s enou-“
You can’t listen to him anymore.
“Listen to me, Dave. I love you. You are more than enough for me and you make me the happiest in the world. And that’s enough for me. I’m not going anywhere.”
“You sure about that?” he asks with pleading eyes.
“Yeah, I’m sure. Jared is just a dude I felt bad for at work. I was just trying to be a friend, that’s all. But he misread my intentions. That’s it, that’s all that happened. And I’m gonna distance myself from him because I don’t want him to get the wrong idea.”
David feels relieved to hear your solution. He didn’t want risk sounding like a possessive jerk and ask you to not talk to Jared anymore, but he likes that you’re willing to make that change willingly for the sake of your relationship.
After all, he can’t be surprised someone else would want to have you.  The minute he met you, he wanted you for himself as well. He’s just lucky he got to have his chance before anyone did.
He smiles tiredly at you and closes his eyes as he rests his forehead against yours.
“Think you can forgive me for being a dick earlier? I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that.”
“I don’t know. You might just have to make it up to me” you tease with a playful smirk, getting a low chuckle out of him.
“Whatever you want. Just name it.”

🎀: do you guys think loki likes metallica...or he's more into megadeth...lmk yall opinion on this really important subject it might change the whole fate of the universe fr
summary: loki never trusted someone like this before, never loved anyone like this before. you're all he needs.
warnings: this is just pure fluff and i kind of wanted to cry while writing lol 😭
David was exhausted. Not only from work, but mentally, emotionally, in ways that he couldn't put into words. It was all so draining, dealing with everything he went through, dealing with the most disgusting cases everyday, it was all too much. But you would always be there for him.
This was the first time in his life that he trully loved someone, trully trusted someone. He never opened himself or liked the idea of intimacy, he felt actually in panic by the ideia of being vulnerable to someone... It was so new, but so insanely addictive. It was so strong and deep, something he never thought he was able to feel. He always thought he would die alone, thats how he always used to deal with life.
And now he couldn't possibly think of a life where you don't exist, his chest hurted just by the mere thought. He loved you more than anything, and he knew he would love you forever. It's simple. When you know, you just know. He knew he wouldn't be able to handle life without you, no, not after knowing what love you is like. Not after meeting you, knowing you so deeply, having a soul like yours by his side. He couldn't even think of kissing someone else without feeling repulsed. He couldn't feel attracted to anyone else, couldn't trust anyone else.
"Hey..." You caressed his shoulders, "what are you thinking about?"
"I love you so much" He stared at you with teary eyes, and a sweet smile "I'm sorry"
"Baby" you hugged him, feeling your heart broken at the sight of his tears "I love you too, there's nothing to apologize for. It's okay"
He held you tightly in his arms, the strong grip of his hands around you as if you would leave at any moment. His face was burried in your neck, you could feel the hot tears falling from his eyes. You knew he was actually apologizing for crying.
"You're the most important thing in my life, honey, i want to spend the rest of my life with you and...and" He chuckled, trying not to cry "And i'm so sure of that, i just never thought i could love and trust someone this much. I'm so glad you were born, so glad i met you, so glad you're here"
Your eyes were full of tears, you wanted nothing else but to also be by his side forever. Your arms tightned around his neck.
You carefully spread the shampoo on his hair, his eyes shutted as you chuckled. You were both in the bathtub, but nothing sexual happened... It was for the pure intimacy. For the the trust and love you had for each other. He loved to wash your hair for you, but now, you were washing his. He was much taller than you, so it wasn't something you could always do, but this time you knew he needed.
You did it with so delicated movements, he could sleep right there with no problem. You were sitting as the bigger spoon, he was laying on your breasts, and then he stared at you, smiling big. His eyes shined so much you couldn't stop looking.
"I love you so much, David"
"Would it be weird if i proposed in a bathtub?"
You chuckled, but you realized he was actually serious.
"It wouldn't be weird, do you mean it?" Your eyes widened.
"Fuck, i would marry you right here honey. I need you to promise you'll be mine forever, please, will you?"
You hugged him tighter from behind and kissed his neck, giving his face plenty of kisses. "Yes!"
He couldn't be happier. The only things on life Loki was sure about, was that we're all gonna die and that he would love you till his last day on earth.

“Oh, David.”
He grunted, rejecting what sounded like pity in your voice. It was a reflex, despite you telling him over and over again that you empathized with his hard work. He simply refused to let you feel bad for him.
And you refused for him to not let you do that. How could you not feel bad for your man? He looked dishevelled at best. His clothes were wrinkly, his coat was wet from the rain outside. His beard was unusually long. He smelled of cheap body soap, one labelled a manly tornado of masculine jungle and virile storm clouds.
David started to explain, calculating his words so that he would not speak in vain. He told you that he found a truck stop and used their showers before driving back home. His presence for the investigation was supposed to last a day or two, but he was required to stay on the field for about a week. Unlike his colleagues, he turned his back to the offer of a comfortable bed at the motel and a warm breakfast every morning. He stayed ready and awake for as long and as much as he could, in case of something happening.
You helped him out in silence as he spoke. How you had missed the sound of his voice without the bad network of the phone service struggling to pick up from the place he stayed for the past week. It could have been in the middle of the Bermuda triangle for all you knew, it cut you off too many times and prevented you from falling asleep to the gentle humming of David as he played in his mind songs that looped on the radio during patrol.
He let you remove his drenched coat. He watched you until you disappeared into the bathroom, he assumed you were hanging the coat in the shower where it could drip and dry without making a mess. He loved your attention to details, and how it mirrored his very own. He let you untie his boots so that he could step out of them. He let you do every small and big gestures to get him comfortable.
You offered him a fresh set of clothes, soft worn-out sweatpants and an old t-shirt that had been waiting for his arrival since the moment he walked out of the door. While he changed, you discarded of the dirty work clothes that he wore. You did not comment on how difficult it would be to wash away the dried stains of mud. He was probably kneeling outside in the rain, searching for a piece of information regarding the investigation. Day and night, you knew he devoted himself to his case.
“Love?” He called out for you. He blinked as he caught sight of you, being a busy bee from one room to the other around the house. You hands were full one second, empty the next one. Loki both loved and hated how this all came naturally to you. He loved the ways with which you both took care of each other. You handled the seemingly mindless tasks that weighted heavy on his shoulders while he provided you with a safe, strong presence and with arms to fall into when you needed. When he was actually there.
You finally reappeared in the living room. Your face lit up with a smile at the sight of him. He already looked better in the clean clothes. The shirt stretched over his broad chest, over his soft tummy. “Tell me the story of when you got this t-shirt.”
Loki grinned and looked down at the World’s best fisherman shirt. He explained how he picked it up from the lost and found box at the police station he worked prior to the current one. A cliché altercation between him and a box of donuts had led to him interrogate his first potential criminal with a prideful fisherman shirt. His retelling of the story always made the two of you smile.
It worked as a way to bring his feet down on the ground, to focus on what was important. As a bonus, it was simply entertaining to imagine Loki walking around with that shirt while trying to appear as almighty and professional. “Do you want something to eat?”
The corners of his lips curled into a smile and he followed you to the dimly lit kitchen. In a few swift movements, you had bread, peanut butter, jelly as well as a couple of utensils pulled out on the counter. The final touch was added by David’s arms wrapping around your waist from behind as you assembled his sandwich.
You spread the peanut butter all the way to the crust of the bread and on the other slice, you scooped strawberry jelly and made sure to get chunks of fruit too. Just how he liked it, just how you made it when you packed his lunch for mornings where he was too busy and tired to remember to take care of himself. You pressed the layers together gently and cut it in two triangles, handing him the bigger half.
He thanked you with a kiss on your cheek as he grabbed one of the triangles, taking a big bite out of it. He could easily guess you would have preferred to welcome him home with a big, warm meal. Although, in his mind at this very moment, he saw no difference between that sandwich and something that would have taken hours to make and double the amount of time to bake. And besides, he thought a lot about what he wanted to do during this break from the investigation. He needed to keep his mind and hands busy. This sounded like the right opportunity to invest crazy amounts of time into food you could cook together. Or you’d settle from ordering takeout from the Chinese food restaurant.
You cleaned up once you were both done eating, still with David holding you tight like a safety belt. “Want me to tell you about my day?” He hummed, agreeing. So you did just that, you shared the silly details with him as a way to make him feel included despite his long absence. Sometimes, you disliked sharing stories of your life with him. He was a creature of habit, it was hard to remind David that you were just telling about your encounter with a rude person at the grocery store and it was not an investigation. He would analyze your words, scrutinize your reactions, until you told him to relax.
He did not need such a reminder, at that very moment. Loki leaned his head on your shoulder, not minding how contorted his spine was to maintain him in that position. His eyelids were getting heavy, and so was he. He was half listening and half falling asleep on you.
For every night of the past week, you would have traded anything just to be crushed by his sleeping body and keep him safe and warm. However, you imagined it would be in bed and not laying flat in the middle of the kitchen if you even found the space for that anyway. “Come on, big boy. It’s time for your nap.” You turned gently in Loki’s arms, causing him to gain just enough consciousness to grunt in dissatisfaction. You draped his left arm over your shoulders and held him tightly as you both limped your way to the living room.
Any further, and David would have fallen down on the floor. You helped him to the couch so he could lay down. He shook his head slowly when you presented him with one of the throw pillows. He opened his eyes just long enough to lock his gaze with yours and he grinned when you understood his silent request. He sat up, struggling to stay still, until you joined him on the couch.
You stretched your legs up on the coffee table and you let Loki slowly rest his head on your lap. The sigh he let out made your heart clench inside your chest. He was killing himself trying to save people from dying. All you could do was stand by his side and help keep his head above water for as long as he would let you.
Loki saw it differently. He saw all of the love-filled gestures as a sacrifice as big as his. He appreciated each and every single one of them, and tonight was just the same. He appreciated how you peeled away the layers of stress, of turmoil and of fear. You did that by helping him with his clothes and also by keeping safe physically and at peace mentally.
“It’s okay, now.” You whispered as you placed your right hand on his stubbly cheek, your left one played with his hair. You were soothing both of your souls while trying to make up for all the time he spent away.
You repeated that it was okay over and over again until he, too, said the words to himself. He was okay. For now. And, for now, it was all that mattered. There would never be enough words and actions that could show you how thankful he was to have someone to rely on.
“You’re home.” You smiled down at him and watched him closely as he relaxed under your touch. You stroked your thumb over his lips, tickling his sensitive and chapped skin until his mouth parted open and his breathing slowed down.
He was seconds away from drifting into sleep. His eyelids were heavy. On your thigh, his head was heavy too with all its of horrors and sorrow. His voice sounded gentle and calm. “My love.”
A single tear fell from your cheek and down on the hand that was caressing his. Hearing the words in person rather than on the phone healed the pain that Loki’s absence had put you through once more. You leaned your head back to rest it on the couch and you closed your eyes too. Though it came with all sorts of tribulations, you were just as thankful as him to have someone to rely on.

the unraveling (poison and wine blurb)
detective loki x reader
tw: blood, vomit, gore, angst, suicide ideation.
POISON AND WINE MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
The air was still stinging with gunpowder, the buzz still in your ears. You watched the man drop above you, watched as blood began to pool. The sudden disappearance of his weight on top of you sent air crashing into your lungs, too soon it hurt.
You hauled yourself to your feel, snot and blood dribbling down your face, your brain buzzing as you targeted Loki, who had just now lowered his gun, eyes blown. Your throat was raw before you even began screaming, "You motherfucker! Why did you shoot? Huh? We had him! I had him! You fucking shot him!"
Your finger jabbed into Loki's chest like a knife, your face hot and angry, veins threatening to burst, "We had him! He was talking! He was telling me where she was. I had her. I had her! You motherfucker!"
Loki took your words silently, unmoving and stoic. He let you scream at him, poke him, demean him. He could see the suspect over your shoulder laying on the floor, the pool of blood getting larger and darker. It's when you started babbling and choking on your words that he stopped you. You weren't an angry detective anymore, you were spiraling into chaos, a broken mother.
Loki took your shoulders into his hands, leaning to meet your eyes, bring you back down to earth, "Hey, Hey. Stop. Stop. You need to stop. I know, okay. I know. Stop."
Pained sobs ripped through you, heaving and fighting for purchase in your bones, "No. She's gone now. Gone! You fucking shot the only guy that knew where she was! I had him. I had him and you didn't trust me. You don't trust me anymore."
"I do trust you. He was on top of you, with a gun pointed at your head. Do you not remember that?" Loki hardened his grip around your arms, blunt nails digging into the back of your blood soaked arms.
You shook your head wildly, "You don't trust me. You don't. You watch my every move, you never let me do my job. You're breathing down my fucking neck! Ever since Mag- ever since her, you don't fucking trust me. I was gone for a second. A second. I hate myself. Loki. I hate myself. I could have found her, if you had let me go. We can find this little girl."
He was going to kill you! I do fucking trust you, don't you ever say that I don't again! I don't blame you for what happened, I never have and I never will. You're the only one that thinks that. You blame yourself. But he was going to kill you today"
"You should have let him."
"What?" Your words felt like a punch to the gut for Loki. You were the ratty girl he met at the fence line of the Huntington Boy's Home, the one who stole menthol cigarettes for him. You, who held him when it all go to be too much, the debilitating panic attacks that had him on his knees as he prayed, begged and pleaded to a God he didn't believe in. You were his salvation. You were the mother of his child.
You swallowed hard, a sudden calm, "You should have let him kill me. Let me go. Let me with her. I deserve to be with her. I'm her mother."
Police deputies flooded the scene, a paramedic turning you away from Loki to examine you. Harsh reality returned as you were escorted to an ambulance, passing Loki who was giving his statement on what had just occurred. The kidnapped girl was found that evening, returned safe to her family before you were even discharged from the hospital.
You were on administrative leave for two weeks. Loki was on sick leave for eight days, watching you sleep, making you food and unraveling every gnarled, knotted thread in your head that threatened to take you from him. He held you as you screamed and cried into his shirt, held back your hair when the guilt became too much, your stomach rolling in waves of vomit and nasuea. You shook in your sleep, Loki always having a steady hand on your back and you tossed and turned.
You were Loki's salvation and he was your prayer.

Hi! Could you write on Det. Loki? Maybe he thinking of admitting his feelings to someone, or his gf/wife comforts him after work
So I ended up doing both because I loved both ideas. And there needs to be more David Loki fics out there. So here you go!!

wait, last year i made a post about enoch and the robot-detector in loki (2021), assuming it would detect enoch. now that i'm finally watching s6, i know now that enoch isn't sensed by most synth detectors, so he maybe wouldn't be killed immediately by the tva

Hurt | Detective Loki x m!reader
areyouwaiting asked: another one because why not
Det. Loki x male reader
"For fuck’s sake, I love you!" as a friends to lovers type of thing?
Danke mein Freund 😌
summary: Loki doesn't take very kindly to it when you meet up with an ex who didn't exactly treat you right.
tws: swearing, horror films
It was like a scorpion had found its way into his chest and had struck him right in the heart. The bite of a venomous snake that would strike every time he thought about it. You, hanging out with an ex who had caused you so much damage and who had hurt you so badly, all because they had told you that they still cared, that they wanted to be friends again. Loki couldn't fucking cope, when he saw that picture on his phone, plastered on social media, he was fucking pissed; as soon as his shift was over, he had marched over to your place, and had found you on the sofa, watching a horror film that had been banned in several countries due to the graphic nature of its content, a horror film so grotesque and so vile that the director had been pulled into court on allegations that he had actually killed members of his cast, he knew it was a good sign, and a little relief flooded through his veins.
He knew that if you were in a particularly bad mood, you would have been in bed watching it and snuggled into the duvet. He knew that if you were in a particularly good mood, you liked to sit on the sofa as you watched it. At least you weren't in a bad mood, he thought. At least there was that, and as he sat down beside you, he was pleasantly surprised that you leaned into him so keenly, grumbling softly as you pressed the side of your face against his arm and shifted around so that you weren't awkwardly bent over.
Loki found himself relaxing a little, his eyes slowly shutting as he let out a little yawn and stretched his legs out, crossing them at the ankle as he let you hold his hand tightly; he wanted to ask, he wanted to ask what had happened, what they had said and what you had said. He wanted to interrogate you, but when he realised that that's what he wanted, he shook his head, and cleared his throat. "You okay?"
"Yeah," you nodded, smiling. "I don't know why I bothered, but hey, at least I got a free meal of it so it's not all that bad, really."
That wasn't what Loki was expecting in the slightest, his jaw clenching as he got a little more tense, brows furrowed as he frowned and uncrossed his ankles, shifting a little so that he was sat upright. "What do you mean you don't know why you bothered?"
"It's just..." you shrugged. "I mean, yeah, I wasn't a perfect boyfriend - but they kept saying the same fucking accusations."
"Which are?"
"That me and you are somehow a thing," you scoffed, but something in your voice told him that you weren't joking. "I mean, yeah, alright... you're hot, and you mean a lot to me, and sometimes I do wish I was your boyfriend... but we're not a thing, are we?"
He fell silent. Sure, he had wished time and time again that you were his, his boyfriend, his partner, he wished it would happen more times than he could or wanted to count, but he knew that it wouldn't work; Loki had hardly enough time to spend with you as it was, thanks to work constantly on his back about everything and anything, and he didn't want you to feel as if you were being neglected because of him. He didn't want to make you feel that way. Never. Not you. Loki could fucking abandon and neglect everyone else in his life, but not you. Not the best friend who he had come to realise that he had other feelings for.
He swallowed thickly. You called him hot. You found him attractive. He scratched the side of his nose. You said he meant a lot to you. You wished you were his boyfriend. You wanted to be his as much as he wanted to be yours. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad, maybe he wouldn't neglect and abandon you as much as he feared he would, maybe he wasn't going to hurt you and maybe he wasn't going to make you upset. Maybe things would be okay in the end after all. Maybe.
"Do you mean that?"
"Yeah," you breathed out. "Loki, for fuck's sake, I love you! You're my best friend, and I... I love you as my best friend, and always will, but I also love you... the other way. And I'd wanna give it a go."
"What if I hurt you?" He asked. "You know I don't have a lot of time to spare as it is."
"Then hurt me," you told him. "Hurt me as badly as you can. I'm a big boy, I can take it."
"It could ruin our friendship."
You moved to sit upright, glaring at him as you huffed and shook your head, daring to laugh softly. "Loki... nothing could ruin that - unless you tell me you suddenly hate Train to Busan, in which case, I'm not only disowning and abandoning you, I'm also gonna bully you."
Loki couldn't stop the laugh that escaped him at that, shaking his head fondly. "I love that film."
"So..." you cleared your throat. "Your day off is tomorrow - wanna go to the café for a date?"
"I'd rather stay here," Loki explained, "and I'd rather watch Train to Busan with you."
