I can't get over Todd rocking up to the police station to tell them he's seen a missing person only for them to pull out a file of all the shitty stuff he's done in his life and go "you're not under arrest BUT

I hadn't really thought about the lottery ticket number before
Tumblr media
But I just noticed that the first three numbers
745
Are the same as the room number that Sam (the lottery announcer and the woman that was with DuJour/Rimmer and he kills) was staying in with FBI guy Nathan in the hotel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which made me wonder if there is some meaning to the 15 0 1 in the number
I couldn't immediately think of anything, so if anyone has any theories or answers I'm so curious about it

FBI vs Fictional Alex Casey
I'm glad to hear that Sam Lake himself even sees the difference between FBI Casey and Dark Place/Fictional Casey--as opposed to how sometimes the two are conflated as being the same person.
He acknowledges himself that FBI Casey has more of a safety net around him which prevents him from becoming like Fictional Casey. He COULD become something akin to Fictional Casey, it's not outside the realm of possibility, but Agent Casey has people like Saga (and later Kiran Estevez) who serve as his support group.
Even Fictional Casey isn't Max Payne. Casey's character concept (the FBI Agent and the Fictional Version) is based on the film noir hard-boiled detective, but to differing levels of influence. Fictional Casey is based on visions Alan received (but didn't know how to parse) and turned into his fictional stories. Alan wasn't 1 for 1 recreating Casey's life; he was using it for inspiration in the same way writers get inspired by real life all the time... In Alan's case, it just has a supernatural foundation (that he isn't aware of until later).
To my absolute shock (and joy), I noticed that AO3 finally created the relationship tag Fictional Alex Casey/Alan Wake at last. I'm the only one using this tag at the moment (but here's hoping maybe other people will use it now too???). SO... I guess that means Fictional Alex Casey/Alan Wake is a rare pair!
I've used both Alex Casey/Alan Wake and Fictional Alex Casey/Alan Wake tags for fic Out of My Hands and Into Your Heart since the latter didn't exist until recently apparently. I used the Fictional tag for Casey because I wanted readers to know that this story would follow Fictional Casey and his relationship with Alan, not his FBI counterpart (as I've always seen these people as separate individuals).
But it's good going forward there will be two separate tags for both FBI and Fictional Casey.
Hopefully other fic authors will start using these tags more frequently now that Sam Lake has confirmed they're both their own men in their own right!

A Rant Consideration about Mr. Scratch and his origins (Alan Wake 2 spoilers):
I've been seeing a lot of posts on various social media about who/what Mr. Scratch is. Before AW2 i've visited the youtube channel "Gaming University", which i think it's the most complete source of information about all things Remedy related (i'll put the url to his channel in the comments), and it's been eye opening.
SO first things first, let's make something clear: Alan Wake is about psychology. Ok? Ok.
Remedy uses psychology themes through all the remedyverse. Collective Unconscious? Psychology. Archetypes? Psychology. The Hiss? Polaris? Well, not exactly psychology, but it comes from it.
Sam Lake has been using tropes and themes inspired from a especific psychoanalyst named Carl Jung (the man below). The Jungian philosophy perceives the human mind as the modeler of the world, and not just it's spectator. To Jung, inside the mind we all have a set of actors, who regulate our behavior and at the same time makes us remember (on a conscious or unconscious state) of who we really are.
Tumblr media
One of these actors is called the "Shadow". The shadow represents our repressed desires, the corruption, the will to violence, etc. The shadow is a key factor to the process of self knowledge: the ascension in the spiral (weee) of consciousness, and is natural to all humans.
Tumblr media
When Alan comes back to talk to Agent Estevez after the Scratch boss fight, she asks "Isn't the shadow possessing you anymore?".
The FBC files mentions the shadow multiple times. Ilmo Koskela states through the game that everyone who leaves the Dark Place "gets out unwell". The Dark Place is a place of creation indeed, but its also a realm of the mind: it feed of memories, messes with emotions, causes despersonalization, psychosis, etc.
Reuniting all that information, we can safely assume that:
Mr. Scratch is the Shadow of Alan Wake given boost and agency by the Dark Place: they ARE NOT separate entities.
Tumblr media
It is Alan, his corrupted desire to be the best writer, to feel wanted and loved, through all means necessary. Scratch is not exactly obsessed WITH Alan, he's obsessed in giving Alan what he wants in the most fucked up part of his mind.
And let's be honest: having an eldritch variant of you throwing at your face what you really are - beyond all morality and social rules - through its actions is pretty disturbing, traumatizing even. It's natural that Alan understands Scratch as his worst enemy, he still doesn't recognizes it as a part of himself.
Saga has her shadow messed up as well, when she gets to the DP, which was also boosted by the darkness. Her shadow humiliates her as a mother, Casey's partner, and a detective, representing her worst fears. "Seems like i'm my own worst enemy.", she states.
The shadow traps her inside her mind place, since the process of giving conscious to a unconscious part of your mind is so unnatural, that they both cannot be separated. A human mind cannot survive without it's shadow.
Also, the way she'd dealt with her situation is really admiring - Saga proved to be a much more self-conscious and stable person than Alan, who stayed 13 years suffering by the hands of Scratch.
Want more proof that Scratch is a shadow? Look at his photo alongside Saga's shadow in the "Profiling" desk:
Tumblr media
Everyone deals with their shadow on their own way
When Casey get's "possessed by Scratch", i don't think that's exactly what's happening: the Dark Presence enters Casey's mind, messing up with his Shadow, boosting his most agressive and corrupt parts of it, and since everyone is in Scratch's Story, Casey's Shadow will do what the Story mandates (world domination).
So TL;DR, Mr Scratch and Alan are the same person. The DP boosts Mr Scratch to a point where he/it becomes another personality, who takes hold of Alan's body to do it's biding. Same thing happens to everyone who gets "touched" by the darkness. Alan kinda understands this at the end of the game, when he shouts "Come on MF, COME HOME!!"
Now, like Jung said, the Shadow has the objective of reminding us who we really are deep down, and as much traumatizing that can be, is by embracing our flaws and accepting our Jungian Shadow, that we reach a state of mind the psychoanalyst calls the "Self": a perfect state of auto consciousness and knowledge, the top of the mountain in the ascension of the spiral.
Let's just hope that Alan is getting close to it.

HUG - Saga & Ilmo drabble
Emotional hurt/comfort. A scene that's missing in the game 😤
Story under the cut or read it on ao3 as usual <3
After her battle with Scratch, Saga returns to the station to wrap things up. Before she meets up with Estevez and Casey who were both wounded during the attack, she first encounters the surviving Koskela brother. The man stands in the corridor, next to the covered body of his brother. He barely moves. The peppy persona she’d seen on the commercials and the contagious energy with which he had met her previously, all gone. Previously, she had felt betrayed by him. Hiding his Cult business right in front of her with a big, cheery smile and even bigger gestures. Whether their motives and actions turned out to be justified or not, Saga’s empathetic. None of the Cultist, including and especially Ilmo’s brother deserved such a brutal death. She gets closer. Ilmo Koskela doesn’t move, doesn’t even flinch at her presence.
“I’m… I’m so sorry about your loss, Ilmo. No one deserves to go like that,” she says in her softest voice. She watches as he puts a hand on his brother’s body.
“Jaakko was all heart,” he sounds at the verge of crying. “It’s my fault.”
“You didn’t know what you were up against,” Saga tries to remind him. Ilmo lets out a choked laughter, disguising a sob. Not sure what to say, she lets her actions speak instead. She sticks out her hand, hoping he’ll take it. Ilmo does. She can’t help herself but give him a hug because by God, does he need one. The man lets out a surprised gasp but she then feels him wrap his arms around her in response.
Hugging is Saga’s specialty, if she says so herself. Whenever her little girl is in distress, they tend to hug it out. One time, she had also hugged Casey after a specifically intense case. Initially, Casey had shrugged it off, but afterward she had detected that subtle smile he barely showed anyone else.
Eventually, they let go. Ilmo quickly wipes away some visible tears, smudging some of the blood across his face. Saga doesn’t say anything about it. “Ilmo, I also wanted to apologize for earlier. I reached the wrong conclusions without really listening to your side of the story at all.”
 “It-, it’s fine,” Ilmo mutters.
“Hey, if there’s anything I can do for you, let me know, okay?” She should actually ask him more about the Cult, but he is clearly in no state to do so. Profiling from a distance might reveal enough. “If you’d like I could grab you some coffee or Ahma?”
“No, not necessary. I just need a moment to… to recollect myself.”
“I’ll be in the other room. You know where to find me,” Saga nods at him. Ilmo throws her a fragile smile. She smiles back and returns to Casey and Estevez.

Gotta say
I loved Alex Casey
He was some sort of stereotypical noir detective but he still had depth and character
He was just an enjoyable dude
Also estevez and Alex Casey are totally part of a “my wife left me” group

I am finally rewatching Dirk Gently for the first time in like a year after saying I would rewatch it every other week and Estevez and Zimmerfield are absolute treasures, Zimmerfield's eyebrows are a character in and of themselves, we were robbed of continued buddy detective content!!

just throwing together some misc alan wake 2 thoughts now that ive slept and had coffee after finishing the game. mostly talking end game, obviously spoilers
alice. alice intrigues me so much. that final stinger is incredible, for multiple reasons. that reveal following the series of photos of her seemingly killing herself is just.. yeah. i think that was not only her way of trying to getting back to alan, who she knew was trapped in the dark place at the bottom of the lake, but it was also to throw scratch off, to think that he won by tormenting her to her death. theres no light flickers in the background of that final video. she is free of scratch, but still clearly safe. maybe back in the dark place, but tbh im not sure if she ever actually escaped it in the first place. shes going to leave the place with alan. she has to, because they are each others rocks. they sink or swim together (it would also explain why she was able to contact saga while she was in the dark place)
speaking of saga, her mind place version of the dark place was just *chefs kiss*. it was an incredible, worked really well to demonstrate not only the power the dark place has on people, but also what kind of a character she really is. strong and independent, but so good to those around her. i really wish we got deeper into her friend and partnership with casey tbh, after hearing about his divorce (which, btw, loved the extremely casual drop about him and estevez just "bonding over their ex wives". amazing job remedy) and especially seeing the birthday photo in the mind place just. my heart. i really wish we got more casey in general, but i guess him being included in the story beats and echo visions as a hardboiled detective just needs to be enough. for now i say knowing full well im gonna dive super deep into fanfics when my brain fog lifts a little ough
my one big question was door. and maybe tim to that extent, considering the last page we read and we never fully got an explanation about doors involvement (im hoping ng+ explains this further?) but it refers to tim as his "unwilling disciple" - obviously tim was moved to the dark place against his will, but at the same time, why exactly and what is he doing? hes been trying to get out, to figure it out, he has a whole whiteboard of theories and yet. it all leads to door. and idk maybe i missed it somehow, but i never fully made that connection as to why and what doors game here is. which leaves me with questions for the next game/sequel/dlc. intriguing, but throwing that in last minute just felt kinda. idk remedy dont do this to me lmao
one thing im admittedly a bit disappointed about was them choosing to sacrifice alan for the ending. i mean i get it, at the point where we think alice is dead and saga makes it very clear that neither casey nor logan can be hurt and that they are both the heroes of the story, theres not much options left. like alan said, the horror story needs a victim. but also idk, i wish we could. have had a choice? multiple endings?? which i guess ng+ teased but we'll see. also it being left unanswered whether we were free from the darkness now or not, which i understand was intentional but idk im still a bit miffed about that one lol. logan not answering the phone. however saga did have a wedding ring on her finger (i did not observe this detail before so idk if it was just always there but it felt very significant in this scene as they didnt show her being lefthanded before so) which makes me think everything did get fixed, considering how badly david hated her during points in the story, so why would she still wear her wedding ring after all those years after what happened if this wasnt the good reality again. just saying
ALSO IM JUST SO GLAD CASEY IS ALIVE. STUPID BASTARD MAN I LOVE HIM SO
"its not a loop, its a spiral" has interesting implications, but i miss "its not a lake, its an ocean" tbh. i feel like that ending revelation held more power to it than this one, it just feels like a rehash for the sake of copying the original. like i get what they mean about this one (its not a constant changing loop, its a developing story moving forward that keeps expanding as it goes even tho it feels like its going in circles), but just as a saying it doesnt stand up to the original. thats all
the way, even if they are sharing a skin, alan and scratch are two different characters (im excluding zane from this equation for reasons as i dont think he was real [im fairly convinced it was scratch playing games with alan just pretending to be zane], but i wanna give special props to ilkka villi for his portrayal. immaculate job) and are written that way. the way they talk, the lines they have, there is a significant difference when you pay attention to it - i think its partially alans way of trying to dodge the blame and put it all on scratch, whereas scratch doesnt do that for himself, hes just trying to play into the emotional manipulation angle with the constant rush instead to get what he wants and to get people on his side and to trust him. which is a really good take, considering that hes using all common scammer tactics to try to fool people into giving him what he wants (also just god the transformation scene when this is revealed? permanently tattooed in my brain that was so goddamn good)
its also a very interesting take that the cult is actually the good guys. i also just love ilmos explanation for it; "what kind of a cult calls themselves a cult" like. yeah. yeah man you got a point there. but that being just a cover and a scare tactic to keep people safe? love that shit that was good (kinda high key mad we didnt get more of them after that. only that one last sad tv commercial, would have loved to give them a good ending too)
also the parallel of alan waking up from getting shot to the head vs earlier zane doing to same thing at the second meeting in the hotel. i havent stopped thinking about it tbh
just. a few thoughts. all in all idk i felt like the ending was missing something tbh. maybe i just missed something, but it feels like it was more of a setup for something in the future with everything than an ending to a full game and a sequel 13 years after the original. i have too many questions left, more than i entered into this mess with. that being said, absolutely loved the game itself, the story is insane and incredible, this has once again rewired the way my brain thinks about stories (plot board my beloved......), theres so much underneath the surface of a survival horror game that cant be explained, it needs to be experienced. there are sequences here that im unable to convey in words and feelings, you need to see them for yourself ("we sing" and the movie theater. iykyk)
just in general that cliffhanger like. why you do me like this remedy. why. i cant wait for 13 years for another sequel. goddamn
the ending tho, im. i dont know. in the first game we knew things were still kinda wrong, but it showed that everyone outside of alan seemingly got out of the things unscathed for the most part (i mean we lost nightingale, rose went kinda loopy, there were signs that not everything and everyone was right but for the most part the town and people in it were safe), but here we dont see any of it. the happy deerfest is nothing but scratch's illusion. so idk if im meant to believe that shooting alan was the fix and everything went back to normal, like normal normal before this man was pulled into the lake, or since he was still seemingly alive after that, are we still living in the happy deerfest illusion forever while the darkness spreads to the land outside of it? i have so many questions and this ending didnt answer a lot of them tbh lmao
theres so much here i cant fit here my brains still very rattled from all of this and i keep getting more questions the longer i think about it so im gonna leave it here. i'll probably see you later with more when ng+ and/or dlc releases, as hopefully those will explain more
10/10, absolutely my game of the year ngl
..one thing to leave you with. fuck the boss fights in this game lmao

Happy nice ask weekend, I'm here to annoy (affectionate) you with some lone star questions!
Suprise, Tim Minear has put you in charge of LS! (In a perfect world where everyone gets paid a fair wage for their work.) What's next for Tarlos besides the Gabriel of it all?
If you could bring one past character back, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
You get to do a crossover with *any* other show, past or present, what show would it be?
Pick a special episode: Valentines day ep, Halloween ep, Christmas ep, musical ep, animated ep, AU ep (like Mateo's sitcom dream)
You get to delete one thing from the show's history without it messing anything up, what do you get rid of?
Pick a celebrity guest star. What would their role be?
Firefighter TK or paramedic TK?
For Carlos: Officer Reyes, Detective Reyes, Ranger Reyes, or something completely different (non law enforcement?)
Flashback episode for TK's life in NYC (pre Alex), or a flashback episode of young Carlos growing up on the ranch (including his friendship with Iris)
A (new) work partner for Carlos or a new recruit at the firehouse?
Buttercup or Lou II?
TK's cousins or Carlos' sisters?
Andrea calling TK mijo or Owen calling Carlos son?
Reyes-Strand or Strand-Reyes?
Hi, thanks for the ask. This is a lot of questions and I’m avoiding watching the mariners suck, so this will help the annoyance of them losing so early in the game.
If I was in charge of 911 Lonestar I would do so many things with the characters that aren’t used as much and would make it less the Rob Lowe show. An ensemble instead, like it should be.
What’s next for Tarlos: being a family just the two of them before they decide to have kids. Figure out how they want to be a family before they add too it.
Some one I’d bring back alive or dead? I’d bring Iris back, I really liked the character, she was very interesting and we didn’t get enough of her.
Crossover: I’m not sure, maybe Third Watch. That was a good show about paramedics and cops and I think firefighters.
Special episode: Valentine’s Day would be fun for all the characters.
Change 1 thing: either Charles doesn’t die, but is still quite sick or Judd’s son doesn’t become paralyzed.
Celebrity guest star: that’s so hard. Emilio Estevez, I think. Rob and Emilio have been best friends since they were teens. Maybe he could be a firefighter from New York that he’s been friends with and is TK’s god father
Paramedic TK, I really like that for him
Detective Reyes, I think that would be a cool role for him
Flashback to young Carlos. I’d like that. I want to meet his whole family
New recruits to the firehouse please
Buttercup
I want to meet Carlos’s sisters
Andrea
Either or, no real preference
I’d really like for Matteo and Nancy to have more screen time
I want more Grace and Judd and I want Judd’s son to get better and not live with them, plus more Charlie. Less Owen at all times.
Maybe bring TK’s step dad and his half brother to visit.
