please tell me ur patterns. plea
my danganronpa autism patterns…… for u……
chapter one:
tricked into murder
leon didn’t mean to kill sayaka. in fact, it was shown that she accidentally stabbed herself during the struggle in the bathroom, but since there were no cameras there, no one but leon knew, and it’s likely he fully believed he was the one who stabbed her.
teruteru only acts because he thinks nagito is planning to kill someone, and interrupts to take out a person he deemed as dangerous to the group. while he did mean to kill, he got the wrong victim.
kaede meant to take out the mastermind, and set up her trap accordingly. instead of killing the mastermind, however, she “killed” rantaro.
“important” victim
sayaka was played up to be makoto’s helper, of sorts, and also a possible love interest. she was the character we, the player, gotten the closest to at that point.
twogami had stepped up to be the leader of the group. additionally, since we believed him to be the real byakuya togami, his death so early was even more alarming.
in both previous games, the character with an unknown talent survived until the end, and coming into/remembering their talents was an important part of their stories. rantaro, however, doesn’t live long enough for that. he, additionally, is set up as the mysterious, knows more than they let on character type, like kyoko. additionally, the protagonist herself is killed in this chapter.
chapter two:
killer reveal
togami’s set up baits out genocider, a known serial killer with a considerable body count.
peko’s true talent as a swordswoman for the yakuza is revealed. ignoring the sparkling justice red herring, it’s reasonable to assume she’s killed at least once (ignoring her time as a remnant).
while technically after the trial, kokichi outs maki as the ultimate assassin, making it damn certain that she’s killed.
hard framing of another
byakuya strings up chihiro’s body and writes in blood to frame toko/genocide.
peko knocks out hiyoko and leaves a gummy bear at the scene. hiyoko’s footsteps are the only ones seen running from the scene after the body’s discovery.
kirumi reveals ryoma’s body at himiko’s magic show, leading everyone to believe it was himiko’s doing.
something unobtainable/something lost (unsure how to classify this one but trust me it’s There)
mondo snaps because he sees chihiro as a better person than he, a man he could never be, and is overwhelmed with anger. he lost his brother and could never move on, but chihiro suffered so much and was able to despite it all.
peko kills mahiru because of her covering up the true killer of fuyuhiko’s sister.
ryoma lets himself be killed because he has nothing left, while kirumi has the weight of japan on her shoulders. she’s what he never was: someone with a purpose.
chapter three:
double murder
kiyotaka and hifumi
ibuki and hiyoko
angie and tenko
death of a gay(coded) character
it’s not even coded! a spikechunsoft rep confirmed that taka and mondo had feelings for each other, even if they didn’t know it themselves.
more arguable, but mahiru and hiyoko’s relationship can very easily be interpreted as more than just friends. additionally, both ibuki and mikan are canonically sapphic.
tenko.
killing for love
celes kills for the person she loves most—herself. not only does she want the money to fulfill her dream, but she’s also led to kill because her heightened sense of self made it impossible for her to coexist with her classmates.
despair disease reminds mikan of her true love—junko. while it’s very clearly the remnant brainwashing talking, it could also be argued that mikan did admire junko even before then.
kiyo kills for the only person he’s ever loved—his sister. as fucked as it is, she’s the reason he turned to killing in the first place, and his love for her is what inspires him to continue on with his plans even after angie intervened.
death of a developing character
taka had just managed to overcome mondo’s death, and gained a brand-new personality to go along with it! but then he dies, so all of that was for nothing, i guess.
mahiru’s death hit hiyoko hard, and it’s clear that she was trying to open up more to the group and soften her ways. too bad she never got to show that improvement.
tenko’s relationship with himiko had finally begun to improve into something tangible, and she was even starting to get along with some of the guys! until one of them killed her.
focus on female antagonist
celeste
mikan
angie, although unlike the others, hers is pre-trial while the others are built up during it
chapter four:
for the “greater good”
sakura sacrifices herself not only for her classmate’s survival, but because she feels as if she has failed them as the “traitor”. this is the only way she feels she can both fulfill her promise and keep her family safe, while also protecting her friends.
both gundham and nekomaru sacrifice themselves so the group can go on, because otherwise, they would’ve all starved to death in the funhouse (asides from nidai).
gonta doesn’t only kill miu because of the “secret of the outside world”, but because she was planning on killing kokichi, which she could’ve very easily gotten away with, leading to everyone’s deaths but her own.
death of the buff character
sakura
nidai
gonta
chapter five:
overly complicated (goes without explanation i feel)
shrouded blackened/victim
mukuro’s body is covered and destroyed before any real investigation can be done. additionally, her killer is literally hidden, as the real junko had yet to make an appearance at that point.
the culprit themselves don’t know they did it! because of komaeda’s set up, chiaki throwing the poison bottle was pure luck, and nothing else.
we don’t even know who’s the victim and who’s the culprit for the entire trial, with kokichi’s body squished, and the eva not only hiding kaito, but allowing him to change his voice at will.
honorable mention: someone explodes
when the bombs around mukuro’s body are detonated, genocider is sent flying, but ends up being unharmed.
when komaeda blows up the dining hall/restaurant area, souda is caught up in the explosion, but he’s fine.
i don’t have anything for chapter six other than the big reveal bc other than that i think the similarities would be more in the themes than anything and. i am not putting myself through v3’s final trial again you can’t fucking make me

What's super interesting about 2-3 is the way it segues straight out of 2-2, in an even more direct way than 1-3 segued out of 1-2. And yet, at the same time, it kinda steps into the same nagging problem that 1-3 had.
The main problem in 1-3 is Taka. Taka's death just sorta happens.
Taka's death is rooted in the conflict between Taka and Hifumi over Alter Ego. This conflict is critical to the entire case, and it's motivated by Taka's grief over Mondo's death. Taka's bromance with Mondo in 1-2 left him abandoned and distraught after Mondo's execution. Alter Ego gave him a chance for solace, but Hifumi wanted Alter Ego too.
All of this setup is critical to Celeste's manipulation of Hifumi. She takes advantage of this conflict to trick Hifumi into killing Taka.
But as an unfortunate side effect of how these complex slayings took place, Taka ultimately takes a backseat to his own death. The relationship between Hifumi and Celeste is what the case revolves most heavily around. Taka gets screwed.
2-3, meanwhile, features the end to the social group that featured heavily in Twilight Syndrome Murder Case. The last three survivors of Sato's friend group, Hiyoko, Mikan, and Ibuki, all die here.
(From a story perspective, it's kinda weird that Fuyuhiko lives when he's one of the two actual murderers from TSMC. Like. From a horror writing perspective, the only male character from TSMC being the sole survivor despite being one of the few characters actually guilty of heinous crimes rather than simply being crime-adjacent is pretty weird. Actual murderers don't typically make it to the end of a horror story when the murder in question is a featured plot point. Women are getting killed off left and right so Fuyuhiko can live. But I already talked enough about that in 2-2.)
Like. This feels meaningful. It feels like Mikan, abused victim Mikan, finally snapping and murdering Hiyoko feels like a significant moment in their story.
Hiyoko's death is, itself, rooted in the events of 2-2. She's as much a victim of 2-2's slaying as 2-3's; Mahiru's murder strands Hiyoko without the person who helps her tie her kimono. Her inability to tie it by herself is precisely what guides her to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, which gets her killed. Her death is a direct consequence of Mahiru's.
It's just. Unfortunate. That in this, the culminating self-destruction of the TSMC clique. Neither of the killings has anything to do with the actual character relationships between Mikan, Ibuki, and Hiyoko. It is strictly by coincidence that this one character, who might as well have been selected at random, happened to kill these two other characters who might as well have been selected at random.
Mikan was afflicted with I'm A Murderer Now Disease, Ibuki was afflicted with I'm A Murder Victim Now Disease, and Hiyoko just happened to walk in on it by pure coincidence. This. Sucks. As the story of how these three thoroughly interconnected characters meet their end.
*heavy sigh* This is the problem with the Despair Diseases. It makes the killings in 2-3 completely arbitrary, despite feeling like they should be far more meaningful than they are.

Lasso of truth! Byakuya, what are your favorite things about everyone?
Tumblr media
Gugh...Alright fine...
Tumblr media
I've always been rather envious of Makoto's tenacity and his unwillingness to give up even in the bleakest of times. It feels like the one thing he could do that I could not, and I don't know if I'll ever match it. Kyoko is one of few people who I think can match me in intellect and observation. Even back when we first met, I did always think she was cunning. Dangerously so, in fact.
Tumblr media
Hina has an enviable passion, and it stuns me how she can both be so upbeat and positive, but also knows her limits and is realistic when she needs to be. She doesn't live in her own fantasy like most people and is serious about everything she does.
Tumblr media
Hiro...Geh...I suppose I can compliment Hiro on trying to get out of his diseased mindset of money and scamming, as well as how he's strong for his friends and family. Other than that, that man unfortunately doesn't have many redeeming qualities.
Tumblr media
I don't keep it a secret that I've never been really fond of Toko. However, since she joined up with Komaru and got off my back a little, I came to respect her more as a person. Especially as of late, when she's trying to keep everyone together despite how it's weighing on her too.
Tumblr media
Sayaka has a near unshakeable willpower and a strong dedication to fix everyone's problems and right her own wrongs. Even though her past weighs heavily on her, she remains standing. Leon isn't the brightest bulb in the box, but he's capable and strong. He's not the slacker everyone thinks he is. Give him a task, and he'll do whatever his limits allow him.
Tumblr media
Chihiro's intellect and digital smarts have gotten us out of scrapes more times than I can count on my hands. Honestly, had it not been for him, we would have lost to Junko a long time ago...And I admit, it makes me feel...indifferent about what I did to his body during the Killing Game.
Tumblr media
Mondo is an oaf, there's no denying that, but he cares greatly about his friends and would do anything to protect them and make them happy. And that includes me. We definitely have issues with each other, but we can still make a decent team. Taka's actions don't always go the way he wants, but his heart is always in the right place with everything he says and does. Though his rants about effort get a little tiresome after a while, nothing he says is really wrong. If you're going to advocate a message, there are worse things to stand by.
Tumblr media
Hifumi...as strange as his practices are to me, I admire his passion and creativity. His talents and his eye for detail are not wasted on him.
Tumblr media
Sakura's strength is obviously something to be admired. But not only her literal strength, but her strength of heart as well. Back in the day, I could not fathom the idea that someone would be willing to take their own life for the sake of protecting the bonds between her friends. I severely underestimated her, and regret my assumptions even to this day.
Tumblr media
And Mukuro...The decision to bring her back to life was not an ill one like we thought. Having someone like her on our side made our jobs at the Future Foundation so much easier...and it made me reconsider where the line between Hope and Despair really lies. I wouldn't have learned that if not for her, and I hope she's resting peacefully now, wherever she ended up.

any DR characters you would swap deaths?
You mean trade out people who are dead for people who are alive, I assume? Or do you mean, like, trading out how and when characters die with other dead characters? I’m assuming it’s the first one. My answer kind of depends on the day you ask. Sometimes I have less, sometimes I have more.
And on some days, I don’t want to change anything, because I sincerely worry about whether changes will disrupt the larger narrative, the themes — maybe even things I haven’t yet picked up on in the writing. It definitely feels risky to mess with someone else’s story sometimes, but... I know we all have the urge anyway, right?
So. Right now, on May 27, 2022, this is how I’m feeling:
DR1:
The person I’d most like to save is Sakura, but I don’t want to mess up the fourth trial or lose Asahina’s intense actions in that chapter. And I don’t think there’s another character that makes sense in that exact scenario. So I guess I have to leave her where she is, sadly. I also considered trying to save Fujisaki (and subsequently erase the fandom question of whether Chihiro was posthumously misgendered) by swapping some deaths around. Alas, I couldn’t make that work without completely rewriting the surrounding narrative.
I finally landed on this: We trade Kiyotaka for Hagakure. Because: 1) I don’t think Hagakure has ever gotten to shine as brightly or be as fleshed-out as the other survivors. 2) I never cared for the “Kiyondo” thing in DR1 Chapter 3 and would be happy to drop it. 3) I think there’s a lot more to explore about Taka once he is so close with/emotionally invested in a criminal. It’s got to change his entire worldview, and I want to see how that unfolds. As to the “How,” I already mentioned that we drop the “Chiyondo” persona that gets Ishimaru so fixated on Alter Ego. And in turn, we make Hagakure desperately want a piece of that A.I. because he knows he can leverage its predicative algorithms to enhance his fortune-telling and make a crapload more money (or, worst-case scenario, he can just sell the damn A.I. for a big profit). Naturally, this isn’t something that Hifumi would take kindly to.
DR2:
To start, I’ll trade Mahuri for Akane. Will this necessitate Akane being made a part of the Hiyoko/Mahiru/Mikan/Sato friend squad? Probably, but I think that’s acceptable. This does mean that Akane will lose some of her more interesting moments of characterization... but I mean, that kind of thing happens inevitably to the characters who go down early. For the moment, I’m thinking that Mahiru is more likely to lead to fun/interesting interactions than the thinly drawn Akane did.
Give Ibuki's death to Hiyoko (the idea of Mikan purposefully targeting Hiyoko is just more compelling than it being a random act, for obvious reasons.) This also gives a chance to use my idea about giving Hiyoko the “Truth Telling” Despair Disease as a way to try and redeem her a bit... but I guess that’s me getting into more of a rewrite than just a simple death-change.
I know I said (in that post about a theoretical Hiyoko’s redemption) that I’d take the Despair Disease away from Akane because I didn’t see the value in her “coward’s disease.” In retrospect, I should’ve remembered what @jadyjads once said about how those segments speak to her character. I’m on-board with the majority of what she said there. Now, sure, the point is kind of moot if I’ve already killed Akane off, but even with that being the case, I think her fourth and fifth FTEs hit a lot of the same themes home. So I’d want to expand on those slightly to help make up for the loss of her Chapter 3 material.
Second death in Chapter 3? Nekomaru. Just have him be in the hospital in chapter 3 instead of off-screen. Maybe he awakens only near the end of Daily Life and, when he wanders out to explore the island, stumbles right into the club and sees Hiyoko’s hanging. Then it'll be interesting to see Mikan sneak up and take out someone markedly bigger and stronger than her just using the element of surprise. That’ll help obfuscate the fact that she was the culprit a little more. In addition, “Mechamaru” was one of many ways that the game foreshadowed its eventual endgame reveal little too much IMO. So, although we’re losing some elements from the narrative by removing his presence during Chapter 4, we can at least reduce the number of obvious clues in doing so.
This ALSO lets us keep Ibuki around longer, which I think is worthwhile as it gives a chance to better appreciate her surprising depth/intelligence. Furthermore, I always felt that Gundham's choice to kill in Chapter 4 was kinda whitewashed by having it be a character who we hadn't seen much for a while AND was turned into a robot. We need to appreciate the full impact of his decision a little more, y'know? They make it seem like it’s kinda heroic of him and Nekomaru to choose this path, but at the end of the day, Gundham still legit killed somebody; let’s not sugarcoat it overmuch. It’s a gray-shaded act at best. This does mean he’ll have to actually knock Ibuki unconscious rather than just using a switch to power Nidai off, but I think we can easily work with that.
(...I also think that Ibuki and Gundham meeting in the tower room and instantly deciding to have a one-on-one battle is both weirdly in-character for them and also inherently funnier than the Gundham/Mechamaru showdown.)
DRV3:
Obviously, I don’t kill Kaede at the start. In fact, I think I’ll do the inverse. We start the game as the low-self-esteem boy protagonist and HE gets framed and dies, so we’re quickly tossed into Kaede’s perspective on events. We don’t want to lose Kaede’s guilt over attempting to kill the mastermind, exactly... so we have to leave that in and just have Shuichi seemingly cause a different, “accidental” death. He only realizes what happened during the trial itself, so he gradually helps Kaede realize the truth (much like Kaede did for him in the canon version).
Other than the identity/personality of our hero(ine) being different, I think it’s probably good to keep the events largely the same from here. Most of the noteworthy narrative changes will be confined to the FTEs with the characters, I wager. But in the main storyline, it’ll be fun to see Kaede gradually warm to Kaito as he continuously encourages her and brings her and Maki into a workout group, with both of the women eventually accepting that his intentions are legitimately pure. I can see Kaede not just sitting there and watching while Kaito learns how to work the crossbow from Maki — she’s going to get in there and ask questions about what the point is, even if she can’t get a straight answer. And I’m positive that Kaede will be even harsher towards Kokichi than Shuichi was — really taking him to task with how he’s endangering everybody whenever he dicks around and intentionally drags out the trials.

Absolutely random, but picture this: Despair Disease Taka & Mondo. Mondo is a crybaby, and very soft- similar to Mikan. Taka breaks rules constantly and is very morally wrong. Just food for thought.
I think Mondo’s despair disease would be him being very outwardly emotional, passive, and incredibly self loathing (like, nagito levels). And I agree, he’d be a pretty big doormat too!
As for Taka, I could see him being incredibly distrustful, mischievous, and stoic. It’d be hard for you to tell what he’s thinking, which is why you know something is off. Also curses like a sailor.
They both act like they hate each other, too.

Naegi and Komaeda - How Luck and Hope go hand in hand
So...Makoto Naegi and Nagito Komaeda, the Super High School Level Lucksters that are also heavily associated with Hope.
I been thinking about them, you can get an idea of what I been thinking from the title.
I'll start with Nagito since he came first In-Universe
Now Nagito is one sad motherfucker. His luck took so much from him and gave him so much at the same time:took away his parents in a plane crash to then give him a massive inheritance, got him kidnapped once to then make him win the lottery making him even more rich, practically set for life and then proceeded to make him terminally ill to them get him accepted at Hopes Peak...and that's only the Pregame things, there's probably a lot more.
Needless to say that really did a number on him (that and one of his brain diseases affects his way of thinking) He latched on to Hope as a coping mechanism, believing that Hope will always win over Despair no matter what, that Despair is always succeeded by Hope and that he and other people are just steeping stones for Hope, blah blah a lot of people have already put it in better words than I could.
This is based on how his Luck works, his luck is always Bad Luck followed by Good Luck...or Despair is always followed by Hope.
Granted, some of that Good Luck don't make up for the kind of Bad Luck that preceded it (like him losing his parents in a highly traumatic event or getting terminally ill only to get money and and a Hope's Peak invitation in return), but to him it has to be that way or else he will become even worse than he already is.
I don't have much to say about this really cause it's already explored in detail by canon and others, so i'm gonna move on to Makoto.
Makoto is a self described average kid, the only things to set him apart is that he is more Gun-Ho and optimistic than most...there's also his Luck.
Makoto's Luck is different than Nagito's, it doesn't have a cycle...it doesn't have a pattern or anything, it's random, the only thing that is sure fire is that it's always good luck...mostly to keep him alive and that it's usually Good Luck disguised as Bad Luck.
No, I kinda had an idea that his Luck actually influences his worldview as much as Nagito's does.
Makoto is mainly an optimist who believes things can always turns out alright at the end.
And his luck actually reinforces that beliefs.
I mean, the worst day of his life ends with a triumphant note as he got accepted in Hope's Peak. When he was suspected for being a murderer his messed up bathroom door proved his innocence. Him being forced to the sauna battle of Taka and Mondo gave him extra proof to who was the true culprit. When Kyoko used him as a sacrificial lamb he SURVIVED his execution and unleashed a chain of events that ended up with Junko's Defeat. When his plan to heal the Remnants was looking to end up in disaster Hajime and Chiaki turned it around (Chiaki coming back could be considered part of his, Hajime's and Nagito's Luck really) which ended up helping him in the final stretch of DR3, which also contains multiple instances of his Luck helping him.
What i'm trying to say is that of course he's gonna be Hopeful when things actually turns out alright for him. His Luck nurtures his optimism even if he doesn't realize it.
Nagito is (trying to be) Hopeful in spite of his Luck, Makoto is Hopeful because of his Luck (or more accurately his luck nurtures his Hope).
It's also noticeable how it affects other people.
Nagito's Luck will hurt or even murder the people close to him as Bad Luck, it's like guarantee which is why he keeps himself distant to others.
Makoto's Luck doesn't protect others...but doesn't punish them for being close to him, it flat out doesn't affect them...unless they try to negatively affect him (As Sayaka, Kyoko in the bad ending compared to Makoto in the true ending, Junko...etc learned), they're left to their own luck.
So there, that's how Makoto and Nagito's Luck affect them and their worldview.
Saying this I'm not saying that those two are useless without their Lucks (they're both hella smart and also talented in other areas) or that Makoto never suffered because he has his Luck backing him up (He suffered plenty), it's just some things that came to mind.

my beloveds mikan and miu for the analysis please?
The fundamental thing about Mikan's character is how much she cares about everybody around her, particularly those in her class. I think that's what makes her dramatic shift in personality so striking, because up until that point she was one of the most compassionate, kind, and helpful people in the cast. Its what makes her such good foils to characters like hiyoko, who is purposefully mean, and ibuki, who often accidentally says things that come across as mean even though she doesn't mean to. Plus, i think her dynamic with Fuyuhiko is interesting, because they sort of do the inverse of each other arc wise in chapter three. She starts it kind and healthy, he starts unhealthy and hostile. Then, as the chapter progresses, they switch places. She even enters the hospital once he leaves it, and it's really emphasized by them being the main two people hajime has access to in the chapter. I think there's unexplored potential there for how their characters compare and contrast to each other, especially if you consider Fuyuhiko to be in the 'taka' role of surviving the 2nd blackened and mikan to be in the 'celestia' role as the third blackened and those two are DEFINITE foils. I think since hiyoko is meant to directly parallel Fuyuhiko and mikan is meant to foil Hiyoko there are definitely interesting conversations to be had there. actually to be frank i think mikan contrasts against EVERYBODY in chapter 3 exceedingly well and my controversial hot take is that thats one of the reasons its? not as bad as people think it is? idk i actually quite like chapter 3 and the despair disease and that the three affected by it were all people afflicted with mikans faults (though she didnt really become a lair until after she was infected). it gets a bad rep but i do think theres a lot of interesting stuff going on theere. one thing im noticing as im typing this is that im saying a lot of other characters names and i also talked about other characters when i brough up akane and i think thats something thats really cool about sdr2. the characters are all so interwoven and balanced with how they work that you sort of HAVE to in order to talk about just what exaclty makes them so great.
Ill try to keep miu a bit more brief, mostly because once again im currently in my refresher stage for v3 but also bc i talked about mikan for like a million years there oops akjslkjfkfdsj. Miu's obsession with lost time and due to sleep and disability are things that really speak to me and elements of her character that id really like to explore more thoroughly. I think miu is sort of shaped by that drive, that confident bravado front that she puts on a way to keep herself charging forward even when her nervous personality is trying to hold her back. she wants to defy her limits, to exceed her boundaries in all ways possible, and thats what motivates her and causes her to do the things she does

This killing game made him nervous and scared
But he always put up a confident smile with you
He never wanted to worry you or make you scared knowing that any of you could get killed so he always tried to make you happy but saying a dumb joke or doing a dumb stunt
He would do anything to distract you
But he knew deep down no matter what he did to make you happy, anybody could get killed at any second
He tried looking into his crystal ball but that didn’t seem to work since his predictions more than half of the time weren’t right
So instead of trying and trying to look into the future, he decided to go ahead and look for you to see how you were doing
To see if you were still happy or needed some cheering up
He looked in the kitchen since you often spent your time in there either eating snacks or making tea with Sakura and Aoi.
But to his luck you weren’t there
So instead he went to your room since that was also another place you spent your time in of course.
He knocked on the door “Hey s/o! It’s me Hiro!” He yelled, and waited for a response
But nothing came through
So he opened the door and was introduced with a bloody sight
You were dead on your bed, your neck and stomach slashed
He fell back on the floor- shaking and screamed
Celestia and Makoto came running and when they looked at your bed, they also became frightened
Celestia quickly told them that she was gonna go get the others while Makoto stayed there watching Yasuhiro knowing he must’ve felt horrible since you guys were together
All Yasuhiro could think is how he wishes he could’ve been there to protect you
If only he wasn’t as scared then maybe he could’ve been there
If only he could predict this could happen
If only his predictions were more accurate
If only instead of trying to cheer you up, he could’ve protected you instead
If only he could turn back in time and protect you instead
But he knows he can’t and that only bring him further into despair

And so far there wasn’t any safe way to do so, the only other way was to kill someone and none of you wanted to
Most of the time you stayed with Gundham since there was nothing else to do
You two were in his room laying down on his bed next to each other, bodies close together as your head was laid down on his chest
You were currently holding Cham-P in your hands, petting him gently while deep in thought
You knew that one of you was going to die soon
Of course, it was the only to escape
You knew what you were going to do soon so you spent as much time with Gundham and the Dark Devas
Once it was time to go, you kissed the Dark Devas and Gundham goodnight and left to your room getting ready
The next morning, Gundham waited for you at the table to go to Monokumas Tai Chi lessons
But after a while of waiting, you never came so instead he headed to your room- but you weren’t there either
So he stood there thinking on where you were until he heard the body announcement
He quickly went ove thinking you might’ve been over there waiting
When he got there, instead he was greeted with you dead body on the floor
Cuts all over yourself and even a big deep slash against your chest near your heart
It was pretty clear it was a suicide considering on how you were holding a small tool in your hand with a gentle smile on your face
All Gundham could think is why you’re like do this. He should’ve been the one dead not you. He was going to kill someone just so the rest of you could leave, but you beat him to it
All he could do is look at your body with despair
Is this why you were spending so much time with him? Were you planning to do this for a while? How long?
Thoughts were racing in his head, his eyes became blurry but he just quickly blinked and wiped his tears off
He knew he had to investigate, after all, you’d died so him and others could leave
But that still doesn’t stop him from feeling despair and wishing that he died instead of you

Before you two were even ont his island, both of you were dating
You would often play games or just have cuddle sessions
Both of you got in Hopes Peak with your talents but that quickly turned around when Junko brought despair and Chiaki got executed
You were heartbroken when you saw Chiaki die in front of you and then you and your other classmates became remnants of despair causing chaos and despair in the world
But with the help of the Future Foundation, you all were saved and had a fresh new start with new memories
But thankfully you remembered being with Chiaki so now you spent a lot of time together playing games to distract yourselves
But what you didn’t know was that Chiaki was the traitor who was with the future foundation.
Chiaki try’s her best to keep away from the other since she doesn’t want to lose you. The only time you are apart is when you are sleeping in your cottages.
You walked Chiaki back to her cottage since it was getting late and then left to your own shortly after, but you failed to notice someone watching you.
The next day, Chiaki went to your cottage so you both can go to the restaurant to meet up with the others.
When she knocked on your door, it pushed open. Despairing thoughts immediately flooded her mind,
‘Were you killed? No, you might’ve just forgotten to close the door... they were forgetful sometimes... yeah... maybe”
Without a second thought she pushed open the door, you weren’t there. ‘They might be in the bathroom.. they might’ve opened the door to leave but went back in to go to the bathroom..’ Chiaki thought.
When she went in your room and saw the bathroom was unlocked which only raised more suspicion. She went in and was greeted with your body against the sink with a big wound on your back with your clothes and hair all messy.
She stepped back and started shaking ‘No. No. No... not them too...’
She ran out and found Hajime and Sonia outside, she immediately called them and brought them over to your cottage.
All she could think is why. Why did it have to be you who died.
She can only think about how this will be last time you will ever see each other even after the killing game, even after you all get out.
She knows no matter what that she will bring hope and destroy this despair.

The despair disease has been going around
Lucky for you and Kazuichi, you didn’t get it but that didn’t stop from Kazuichi being scared
Kazuichi has always been scared, even from the very beginning of the killing game so he always tried to keep you away from the hospital.
You and Kazuichi were looking at old-busted computers. Kazuichi was ranting to you about Nagito and how he seems even more annoying than usual.
You could tell he seemed worried about the whole disease. So, you decided to maybe go run to the store to get some snacks for you and him to maybe cheer him up.
You quickly told Kazuichi you’ll be right back telling him you’re gonna go to the store and get something.
He obviously wanted to go with you since he was worried but you told him to stay here and look around.
You ended up seeing Mikan go into the ‘Titty Typhon’ being oddly suspicious. You wuietly followed her, even if she tried to kill you, you most likely would be able to fight back since Mikan didn’t seem that strong.
But when you went it, what you didn’t except was two people to be there. Mikan and Ibuki. When they saw you, Mikan told Ibuki to get you. She immediately did with Mikan right behind her.
All you could think is how you’re not even going to be able to say goodbye and I love you to Kazuichi, your thought was quickly interrupted when you felt a sharp pain on your neck then darkness consumed you.
Kazuichi was getting more worried, sure the store was a bit far but it shouldn’t take this long.
He quickly ran over with thoughts going through his mind, ‘What if you were killed?!’ He sure hoped he was wrong.
On the way to the store, he heard a scream. He rushed over and saw Hiyoko on the floor, her kimono messed up.
“I-It’s an-another murder..!” She yelled as she pointed at the entrance.
When he went in he saw Ibuki body hanging. He told Hiyoko to run and tell the others.
When Kazuichi and Hiyoko ran back with the others, they were also greeted with your body, taped against a pillar.
“W-WHAT??!” Kazuichi yelled when he saw your body. Your dead body wasn’t there earlier, so how?
He ran over to your body looking at it with tearful eyes.
Why did you have to be killed?
Why didn’t he go after you?
How did this happen?
Why would someone do this?
Who did it?
Thoughts were running through his head. All he could do is stand there and cry. He’s never felt this terrified before, why did his s/o have to die.
He thought you both were going to get out of this place together, but things never seem to go right.
He cried and cried as despairing thoughts consumed him

You should definitely do something with the Despair Disease if you can. It had so much potential in SDR2, but not much was really done with it.
I love the idea of Taka becoming a raging, rule breaking arsonist who curses like a sailor.
I have no idea about the despair disease

Danganronpa headcanon/au
The ghost of the victim hangs around in the room of the murderer until the murderer is executed.
The murderer and the victim can only talk to eachother and only the murderer can see the victim's ghost.
The ghost can only move on if the murderer is dead. Ghosts can see other ghosts and talk to them. They can leave the murderer's room after one night.
----------
Leon just came back from killing Sayaka and saw her sitting on his bed. They had a talk and Leon ofcourse apologized and Sayaka forgave him and also said sorry
Mondo was freaking out in his room because he just killed Chihiro. He had put his head in his arms and was at the verge of sobbing when he felt a arm put around him. He looked up and there sat Chihiro. He ofcourse forgave him.
Celeste hadn't been in her room during the murderer or after but she saw Taka and Hifumi talking in her room during the investigation. She didn't talk to them or went inside the room.
Sakura had noone to talk to but stayed at Hina's room although Hina couldn't see her. She wished she could comfort Hina while she saw her crying.
Mukuro had stayed in Junko's empty room the whole game. Junko wasn't dead so she couldn't move on. Sometimes the living heard crying coming from Junko's room but after inspecting the room, found no-one. She saw all of the other victims and talked with them, she could only move on when Junko died. She comforted all of them and made sure they were okay after explaining who she was. Not all of them forgave her and some started arguments.
--------
Teruteru and Imposter talked during the investigation in Teruteru's cabin. Ofcourse, Imposter forgave Teruteru.
Peko's and Mahuri's talk went a lot worse. Lots of shouting and an argument. But when Peko mentioned she did it because of Fuyuiko, Mahiru went on a rant that Peko isn't a tool and that she didn't have to do that for him, that a woman doesn't have to give her life for a men. She didn't forgive Peko but they stopped the argument at least. She is very mad at Fuyuiko though.
Mikan had to face her two friends from before the killinggame in her cabin. Ibuki didn't understand what was happening because she also didn't remember her death. It was more like falling unconscious from being infected with the despair disease then suddenly waking up being death. Hiyoko explained what happened to her and they talked. They both saw how Mikan wasn't acting like herself and talked with her with not much response from Mikan other than talk about her beloved and smiles.
Gundham saw Nekomaru in his room in the grape house. Nekomaru congratulated him on winning the fight and seemed like he didn't mind being death. They had a talk and Nekomaru actually admitted that he was sad and there was a lot of crying from both. Gundham promised Nekomaru to say goodbye to Akane for him.
Chiaki didn't know she had killed Nagito but saw his ghost in her cabin. Nagito didn't say she had killed him. They talked.
----------
Rantaro's ghost was in Tsumugi's room and she after the first night seeing him there avoided the room and slept somewhere else so she wouldn't have to talk to him.
Ryoma and Kirumi's talk went well.... . Kirumi explained to Ryoma why she did what she did. Ryoma understood and although he had just found something to keep living for, he didn't want a whole country dead when he could have prevented it.
Korikiyo saw Angie's ghost just sitting in his room, still smiling like nothing was wrong. They talked about Atua and Angie seemed to change the subject each time Korikiyo talked about her death or tried to apologize. Korikiyo gave up trying to talk to her about it. The following day, during the investigation, Tenko was also his room. He ofcourse avoided it, not wanting to face an angry Tenko but he did see Angie and Tenko talking to eachother. He only heard some parts of the conversation. The two became friends and Angie talked about her death with Tenko.
Kaito and Kokichi talked with eachother in Kaito's room. Kaito at first didn't want to step inside because he is afraid of ghosts but after seeing it was Kokichi, he went into his room. They went over the script, then talked about random stuff.
Rantaro saw all of the other victims and talked with them, he could only move on when Tsumugi died. He comforted all of them and made sure they were okay.

What’s your favorite au? Like just in general
Hm.
I always love a good action/adventure fic. There's nothing like a group of people forming connections together through facing hardship! So anything that gets the characters out and about, fighting some type of foe, is totally my jam. Superhero aus fit into that desire VERY well, so I'm a big fan of those.
I also really like swap aus. Not exactly talentswaps DR style (though that does count), but more of changing the role of a character within a game, like swapping backstories or narrative purposes.
These, and all swaps actually, are kinda hit or miss for me. Because so often, they swap EVERYTHING. What's the point of a swap if the role in the story AND the personality changes? If you give Gang Leader!Kiyotaka Mondo's personality, it's just Mondo but in a different body.
When it's actually good is when the unique personality is considered, while still putting the character in that new role. THAT'S when I love it, be it a talentswap, or something deeper.
(way off topic, but there are no aus swapping Taka and Byakuya's backstories and I think that's such a wasted opportunity. Like seriously, they're the two who come from powerful family names; why isn't more done with that in the fandom? Just consider Kiyotaka Togami and Byakuya Ishimaru. Please.)
Moving on to more DR specific things, Mastermind!Hiro!!!!!! Gosh, @mangoshibi's mastermind Hiro is just...my favorite mastermind au. There's just something great about the last person you'd expect being the mastermind. And also? I like the idea of Hiro being just a bit evil. Please. Give this man some edge.
But to be more specific, Mango's MM!Hiro is just so good? I love that he didn't START evil, but is more of a "fall from grace" type character. He tried so hard to get the ending where everyone was happy, but fate refused to change. It's his compassion that's his ultimate downfall, and I ADORE that.
Plus it just has so much room for consideration, because there are countless loops we don't see. We can always imagine that slow decent into madness, with Hiro having to watch all these kids die time and time again. You can't help but wonder how they died each time, even with Hiro interfering to try and stop it.
And that fact of the AU is perfect, because that same curiosity is part of what fuels Hiro's decent into villainy.
Speaking of mastermind aus, MM!Chihiro. Just consider it and realize that it's a good idea. Strength vs weakness instead of hope vs despair. Maybe protag!Mondo, since he's also connected to the strength and weakness theme.
Okay one final mastermind au. MM!Takaaki. I found this AWESOME post about it months ago and fell in love with the idea. You can find the idea here
I just appreciate the idea of Takaaki just going way overboard with the protective dad thing. Because somebody's got to look after Taka. I feel like this au is especially impactful, because we KNOW that, if Mondo dies before him, nobody really cares when Taka dies. They do him dirty.
Okay, I don't think this counts as a type of au, but I don't care. Any fic/art/whatever that uses Despair Disease is good in my book. That poor motive was SO underused. Like SO underused it's a crime.
Speaking of DR2 stuff, the 77th class as Remnants of Despair. I don't know why I like Remnant!Kiyotaka so much, given that I'm not a big fan of MM!Kiyotaka, but I just do. Perhaps it's the fact that a Remnant Taka WAS the Ultimate Moral Compass, was the hopeful, honest boy who wanted to change the world for the better.
And then that faith and hope is utterly crushed, torn away by forces stronger than even Taka's will.
Perhaps the reason I like Remnant!Taka more than MM!Taka is because there's hope in the Remnant. Hope for Taka to return to normal, rather than being beyond redemption. And that hope means he has the chance to wake up and realize all the horrific things he's done. And I think that's wonderful.
There are not a lot of Remnant!Taka fics, as far as I know at least. But I DID find Love, That Which is Earned which I loved. It's definitely not your typical Remnant!Taka, but that just makes it unique.

If Mondo got the Despair Disease would he be absurdly chill, act stereotypically feminine (like some southern belle type), or become Taka 2™?

I finished Chapter 3 of SDR2 a few days ago and I'm thinking,,,what if the Despair Disease was in THH? I got some ideas on who it could affect and how, since the symptoms are the opposite of the infected’s personality:
Mondo: Guilt Disease. Timid and paranoid. Has a lot of survivor's guilt. Apologizes constantly for intimidating others even if they don't say anything. Cries easily. Somebody needs to hug him.
Taka: Laziness Disease. Hardcore procrastinator. Shows up late to breakfast meetings. Has to be dragged to the gym if Monokuma makes urgent meeting calls. Doesn’t tell anyone he’s infected until the last possible moment.
Chihiro: Rage Disease. V rude. Angered easily. Best leave him alone if he's busy on the computer. Isn’t gonna take any of Togami’s shit. Needs actual restraints when he’s being treated.
Celestia: Truth Disease. She's brutally honest and cannot lie about anything--even revealing her true name. The honesty hurts sometimes, but that's just how she'll be for a while.
Leon: Insecurity Disease. Very quiet and worried about bothering ppl. Always has doubts that he'll find love or make it big time in the music business. Pretty harsh on himself.
Toko: Overconfidence Disease. Very blindly trusting (of others tho mostly she trusts herself). Can be snarky and narcissistic at times when she gets something right.
