The Duffers were like “Billy’s gonna be an irredeemable one-dimensional bully” and then they hired Dacre, a mentally ill guy with admitted issues with a parent who actually had been bullied growing up, to play Billy and he was like hmm…. Maybe That’s Not Cool to Reduce A Person Down to “Irredeemable,” Especially a Teenage “Bully”… so he added depth to the character and acted his heart out, and people attack him for that as if he’s the problem for recognizing that people like Billy could be suffering and their stories deserve to be told.

It made Tim’s persistance in trying to keep Hawk and his family together through the decades make so much sense. It isn’t just because he’s a kind person who knows what they’re feeling and doesn’t want them to hurt like he is, but also because it’s the only way he can come to terms with Hawk’s betrayal in 57. If Hawk did what he did because he, at least in some way, had a wife and a child he now needed to protect, it makes all the time they both missed together have meaning and serve a purpose “your family needs you”.

Tim needs everything to have reason, and if Hawk had ended up just throwing his family away too, then what had it all been for?

What's absolutely frustrating to me is that googling "Lucy Westenra" in images, 95% of the results are from the 1992 movie and the 2013 tv show. And in Both she's the same "loose woman (vs Pure Maiden Mina) who deserves to be punished" archetype. I keep seeing people being all like "awee Yue Quingyuan is so pathetic for never telling Shen Quingqiu why he couldn't return for him, if he only explained...!"

As if what happened to him wasn't supremely traumatic. Like the man didn't almost kill himself - absolutely literally - to get back for his brother. Like he didn't need to be locked up in a goddamn cave for years to recover and didn't end up permanently fucked up because of it.

It wasn't just a "so that happened" story! It wasn't a simple apology. It was relieving a deeply traumatic experience on top of soul-crushing guilt for not making it back in time. He paid a price that was too high and that still wasn't enough.

As if another traumatic experience wasn't necessary to finally make him able to voice it.

Yue Quingyuan is an incredible character and deserves some fucking respect -____-
