What are your honest thoughts on all Descendants boys? From both books and movies?

Oehh that’s a good question! I’ll base most of this off of the movies because I remember them more clearly. Sorry this is so late, I needed some time to sort out my thoughts. Let’s see:

Ben: cutie, golden retriever energy, needs to grow a bit more of a spine but as a recovering doormat I vibe with him.

He’s got a good heart, and he’s definitely going places, but I have no idea who decided a 16-year-old should be king. Hilariously, he’s a better king than his dad because he cares about all of his people, not just the “heroes”. But still, he’s 16, let him have his dumbass teenage years. He’s still in his phase of wanting to please everyone and that isn’t gonna lead to the best decision making. You’re king, Ben, you can overrule your girlfriend’s selfish idiotic plan of closing the barrier. Just tell her “the barrier was opened for you to come through too. If those kids aren’t worth the risk, does that mean you aren’t either? Should we throw you back?!” And she’s change her tune real fast. You gotta give some tough love sometimes.

Jay: cool, I wanna know his gym routine, pretty funny but rash, needs Carlos to temper his brand of crazy (love their bromance).

I love the narrative parallels to the movie Aladdin. Jafar thought himself so far above a street rat and now he’s raised his son to be one so he can continue being a con-man. In the movies, Jay is actually a very accurate representation of your upbringing shaping you into who you are. All Jay knows is stealing, he’s never been taught to pay if he doesn’t have to, so to him stealing’s perfectly fine. It’s normal. It’s a lot more subtle than the whole “who doesn’t like being evil” bit, but the core idea is the same: when all you’ve ever known is one perspective, that’s gonna feel like the objective truth because you’ve never had a chance to try a different one.

Carlos De Vil: Best (movie) Boy, my baby, I love him. What a little nerd (affectionate).

He’s a big part of why I willfully ignore the absolute stupidity that is the third movie’s ending. I’m sorry Mal, wtf is wrong with you??? You set your supposed friend’s abuser free for nothing but some empty platitudes and dare suggest you’ve become an empathetic person?!?! In the books, we get a lot more insight into just how horrible of a mother Cruella is, but even in the movies we see he’s had it bad because of how jumpy and nervous he is. Disney is still Disney so we don’t get much of the healing process, but we see how he calms down and adjusts to a normal life over the course of the movies when he’s out of the bad situation, which is pretty good by Disney standards. Cameron Boyce did an amazing job playing him (R.I.P Cameron) and seeing an abuse victim get comfortable within their own skin and getting the happy ending they deserve is always fun.

Harry Hook: Insane (affectionate), most fashionable drama queen ever, absolutely crazy, more than a few screws loose but in the best way possible, he’s hilarious.

So on the surface, Harry’s pretty simple. A dude who’s lost his marbles and flirts with everyone. He probably has some kind of moral compass, since he didn’t rip Mal’s throat out with his hook when she revealed her little stunt in D3, but it fell overboard at some point and couldn’t be found so nobody knows what it is except Harry himself. Also, he has his sane moments, like during that same confrontation in D3 I mentioned before where he says “And you, King Benny... you're probably gonna throw us all back inside.” It’s the first time I’ve heard him sound… not like Harry. It’s sombre and defeated, a little disappointed maybe? Either way it’s really good acting and it implies he can act completely “normal” but he just chooses not to, which makes me like him even more. He’s just a dude living his best life despite the circumstances he was born into.

Gil: adorable, hilarious, kinda clueless but in a good way.

I love characters that have no idea what’s going on half the time but are absolute sweethearts trying their best. He’s like- the opposite of his dad in every way and I’m living for it!

Gaston Jr and Gaston the third: I don’t have much to say on them, let alone separately, so they get a section together.

Honestly? I don’t remember having an opinion of them. They made Evie happy by wresting, which is cool so they get points for that. Seem like they’re trying to out-gentleman each other to win Evie’s heart and since they’re not being creepy assholes about it they are objectively better than their dad. Very much brawl over brains, the two of them, with their constant wrestling reminding me of Carlos and Jay except they’re both the muscle. Kinda cute sibling relationship, even if it’s in a VK-typical villain-flavored way.

Anthony Tremaine: squeeeee, my type is pretty boys who sigh in annoyance at everything, I guess? We only get scraps but I happily cradle them to my chest.

Uhmmm so Anthony’s personality is mostly up for imagination? The only canon information we have is that he’s most likely Anastasia’s only kid (someone on Tumblr pointed out that, in the scene with the wicked step-daughters, he’s referred to only as their cousin, not their brother) and he’s very bored with his cousins’ antics. Given A Twist In Time the potential drama is endless. Every time Anthony’s mentioned we’re reminded he’s pretty and has good style, and I love that for him. Dude lives on an isle of junk and still looks like a supermodel. Lots of room for my own ideas while still remaining within the realm of “could be canon” with just enough base in there that I’m not just creating an OC, and as a writer and artist that’s all I need tbh.

Hadie: cute, deserves better, I need more of him and Mal bonding

Mal’s half-brother, son of Hades, very cool. I like that he’s trying to turn good and having a hard time, because that’s very realistic for someone who grew up not knowing anything other than evil. Descendants 2 tried to tackle it with Mal, but failed miserably. We know Hades sucks as a parent in descendants (neglect is abuse) so that’s not gonna help him.

Dough: Awww he’s so cute with Evie 🥺

No really that’s it. He’s a nerd that gets the girl, has some very funny moments, but honestly most of his character is centered around Evie? And they’re cute together it’s not a bad thing but there isn’t much to analyze. He’s understandably pissed about someone like Chad getting all the girls while using them, but that’s also only ever seen in relation to Evie.

Chad Charming: what a bitch (derogatory), total coward, I hate him but he’s funny.

So I have no issue with characters who conduct themselves terribly (I love Audrey, (fanon) Anthony, Uma, and many others from many fandoms) if, and that’s a massive IF, they have a good reason for it. And I’ll count “because I can and I want to” as a good reason, because by that point you have someone who’s mean and owns it. I can appreciate the self-awareness and usually those characters are very extra so it’s entertaining. If not that, there needs to be a reason they are the way they are. Audrey has the pressure from her grandmother (and the borderline verbal abuse), Uma has the very real grievance of living in squalor on a run-down island full of the worst of humanity because she was born, what does Chad have? He’s spoiled. A spoiled brat. And he goes from that to an overtly whimpering coward with none of the pretense of superiority in any field. His one saving grace is that he’s a massive joke.

Diego De Vil, Clay Clayton, Gonzo, Jace and Harry Badun, Herkie, Aziz, Jonas, Lefou Deux, Li Shang Jr, everyone else I missed: no opinion, because they’re not relevant enough for the writers to give them a personality.

I have nothing I’m sorry. I barely remember reading their names and I don’t remember anything from the scenes they’re (mentioned) in to get an idea of what to talk about here.

You are the only one hacker in Auradon, so when you saw another person on lind doing your thing on the Auradon network, you decided to discover who that person was. After some digging on the internet and some observation on the real life, you discovered that your oponent was the son of Cruella d Vil.

You approached him on his way to the school and he seemed really happy that someone shares his hobby and can teach him something.

Jay

Your fathers were Yasmine and Aladdin and Ben had the incredible idea of introducing you to the VK because your parents were enemies. He tried to impress you but your father taught you how to deal with tricksters and that led to him having the personal goal of getting you flustered.

Chad Charming

You were a tansfered student from Arendell, emparented with Ana and Elsa, Audrey was your guide on Auradon. She presented you to Chad and well, you being a princess so beautifull with such an attitude (ice Kingdom=strong personality) made him get speechless and start to follow you like a puppy.

Ben Florian

Your father is the chesire cat so you can somehow travel between worlds and barriers so when Ben saw you with Island clothes on the lake he was captivated. You are not used to talking to people so you escaped with a smile. A couple of days later you came again and he was waiting for you with a basket full of food and invited you to talk.

Doug

You were Evie's sister, the black ship of your family because you were always really nice and good and couldn't hide it. So you were the first one to apologize to him about the team's behaviour and you always greeted him on the halls. That make him took the courage to ask you on a date.

Gil

His father knocked him out of the house for the night and he was wandering around the Island, you saw him and thru him a piece of bread. He was really hungry so he took it and then went to sit next to you. You didn't know why he did that but he was pretty funny and a little dumb so you didn't considered him a threat and let him sit.

Harry Hook

You are Scar's daughter (hibrid or witch human-lion) and you were on Lady Tremain's hairdress store, this was now your territory. Harry entered the place to recolect the money of the month and when you confronted him about the new situation and took the money away from him, he proposed to himself to take on your nerves everytime he could.

"Do I have to wear this?" Harry complains to Bella as she helps him try on his suite for the Royal Wedding.

"Yes, you do. Not only because it's a wedding but it's your girlfriend's brother's wedding. Oh, and it's the King and Queen's wedding." She adds before giving him a kiss.

"Things I do for ya, Princess."

"Because you love me." She laughs at him. "Look at you. I say, I caught a big handsome one." She makes him face the mirror.

"You? I found the Heart of the Ocean. I say I win, Princess." He pulls her closer to him.

"Bella! Aren't you supposed to be helping Evie with the bouquet?" Audrey busts through the door.

"Oh, right. Umm, go spend time with Ben for me. Love you." Bella rushes out to go help Evie and sees how big it was. "Oh, my." She rushes over to help her. "Does it have to be this big?" She groans.

At the same time, Harry goes to find Ben, "Izzy told me to spend time with ya." He tells him once he finds Ben.

"Oh, she did?" Ben laughs.

"She did. Listen mate, you still seem to have a wee problem with me." Harry walks closer to him, "Why?"

"For starters you wanted to hook me and got upset when you didn't get to." Ben tells him.

"Oh, come on, King Benny. Your sister doesn't care." Harry rolls his eyes.

"You want the truth?"

"Duh." Harry gives him a look.

"I want what's best for my sister." Ben tells him the truth.

"I'm wearing a suit to your wedding to make her happy. If I had it my way, I wouldn't be." Harry laughs, "It's odd you have a problem with me but your parents love me with your sister. They know I make her happy."

"Just looking out for her."

"You know who you sound like right now? My younger sister, who did the same thing with Bella and I. Guess what... She realized the next day Bella actually cares for me." Harry tells him.

"I'm just more worried about her. The way she acts now and more vocal about not wanting to do things. And you encore her to do so. She has responsibilities, Harry." Ben huffs.

"What? She does those responsibilities. I give her pep talks for them. What I encore her to do is stand her ground and not get walked over." Harry says so Ben shuts up, "And who cares if she didn't want to do her royal responsibilities anymore? You're the King and when you and Mal have kids they will be in charge next. She's free to do whatever she wants technically."

"It doesn't work like that and I don't expect you to know that." Ben tells him.

"It can, look at me and other VKs... We're here now."

When Evie and Bella get to Mal with Dizzy the bouquet falls on with two. "Can you help us up please?" Evie asks the girls.

"Think the bouquet is big enough?" Mal asks.

"You'll need everyone to help you carry that or put a spell on it to move on its own." Bella gets off the floor.

"Fun fact. That bouquet is made up of every single flower grown in Auradon."

"Wouldn't be nice if people saw the dress too? Some people worked very hard on it. And I mean me. I'm some people." Evie walks up to Audrey.

"And the hair. Don't forget the hair." Dizzy jumps in.

"And some people have other things to worry about, like thousands of invites, food, flowers, seating charts, entertainment." Audrey starts to call about things that need to be done.

"Excuse me, Harry is calling me." Bella leave the room to answer her phone.

"Your brother hates me by the way and doesn't want me to be with you. So umm I left to finish getting ready." Harry lets her know.

"Wait, what?"

"Yeah, he's acting like CJ was with you." He laughs.

"I'll talk to him. Oh, speak of the devil I see him. Love you, bye." She ends the call, "What the hell, Ben?" She crosses her arms.

"Harry called you?"

"Yes, what's wrong with you?" She asks annoyed, "I really don't want t lo go through something I've already gone through with his sister with you now. So you can marry Mal but I can't date Harry?"

"Listen..."

She cuts him off, "No." She leaves going to see Harry and when she does he finds him chatting with her dad and mom.

"Hello, sweetheart." Belle smiles.

"I why aren't you two waiting for the wedding or with Ben?"

"Hades caused a little accident so... and Harry wanted to ask a question." Adam adds.

"Oh, did he add Ben doesn't want us together?" She walks over to Harry's side.

"He did which we told him to ignore since we adore him. He makes our baby happy." Belle smiles giving Adam a look.

"Yes, your mother is completely right."

"Okay, so what did you ask my parents?" Bella laughs looking up at Harry, "If they could put Ben in a time out?" She laughs more but Harry gets down on one knee.

"No, I ask for their blessing. Bella, the moment you stole from me, you stole my heart without knowing as well. Everyday I prayed for you to sneak over just so I could see you. I wanted that more than the barrier to come down. Back when Mal and Ben wanted to keep the barrier closed forever, I felt my heart break. I thought I would never get to see you again. I'm the luckiest pirate by finding the greatest treasure ever, you. Will you marry me?"

Bella was completely shocked never seeing this come anytime soon, "Yes!" She jumps up and down as he puts the ring on her finger then kisses her as her parents cheer. "Thank you two for giving him permission." She hugs her parents now.

"Of course, dear." Belle kisses her cheek.

"Anything to make you happy. And he obviously does and loves you." Adam hugs her tightly, "Do ignore your brother. He'll have to get over it since Harry will be his brother in law soon." He laughs.

"There's still plenty of time till the wedding so why do t you go share the news with your family, Harry." Belle tells him.

Harry holds his hand out to Bella so she takes it and they rush off to go to the Isle. When they get to his place Harriet was surprised to see them.

"Don't you have a wedding to attend to?"

"There's a little delay with things going on." Bella tells her.

"Dad, CJ, can you come here please." Harry calls out so they come into the room.

"What? I was watching this really good show and I can't pause it." CJ huffs crossing her arms.

"I just wanted to share that we are engaged." Harry says as Bella holds up her hand to show off the ring.

"Where the hell did you steal that from?" CJ rushes over taking Bella's hand to look at the ring.

"I didn't steal it, CJ. I had helping getting it. Oh, yeah, Evie said you would like this one the best." Harry lets Bella know.

"Evie helped you?!" She shouts taken back then looks at the ring, "She really does know me." She giggles.

"I'm so happy for you two." Hook walks over giving Bella a hug then his son.

"I thought he would take longer to propose." Harriet hugs the two as well.

"I wasn't planning on doing it today but Ben pissed me off so I did it early. I wanted to make sure he knows I love you and I'm good enough for you." Harry takes Bella's hands into his.

"And you are." Bella leans up to kiss him.

So apparently Gil’s mother is the Enchantress??

I… don’t know how I feel about that. I kind of liked the theory his mom is Laurette Bimbette, not everyone in the series needs to have magic powers. I kinda liked the idea of Gil (and his family by extension) just being normal humans who are just trying to get by on the Isle.

Also I think the Enchantress would be way too badass of a woman for Gaston to even want to marry 😒 Not to mention she cursed Adam (Beast) because he acted very similarly to Gaston and was just very hateful. I doubt she’d want to marry Gaston.

Things I love about the sea three;

All info is from Uma's Wicked Book and the descendants movies.

The fact that they put up with one another.

How in sync the three of them are.

Uma's speech thing before 'What's my name' where she mentions Gil and Harry before herself specifically.

They share what is essentially a diary disguised as an 'How to Guide'.

They all are somewhat good at drawing (based on the doodles spread around the book).

The part where Harry says "Sorry, Gil, it's true" when he talks about the lesser crocodile wrestling matches he's seen before talking about Gaston losing to ten foot croc.

The fact that they've gotten into food fights together.

How comfortable they are with one another.

They tell each other a lot of sensitive info in Uma's wicked Book.

They run the crew together.

Gil is the one who found the ball gown that Uma used to make her skirt.

Harry gave Uma a cracked crystal ball for her birthday once that she still has.

Harry once accidentally stole Gil's boots once and was implied to have given them back.

They gossip together.

Gil and Uma both agree that the fact that Harry was comfortable with sleeping on the Jolly Roger when snakes were being used to deal with a rat infestation is weird. And they were both creeped out by the snakes.

They're all dramatic together and find the cauldron born in the cauldron repair shop annoying.

Uma lets Gil have a tab despite being annoyed by how high it has gotten.

Harry and Gil both dislike going to Trolltown but still do because the slopshop is there and Uma likes eating there.

They go to the slop shop often together (at least once a week).

Harry joking about being able to read the slop shop menu to tease Uma and Gil.

Them pranking dragon hall students together.

Uma and Harry both loving the same class—Accelerated Piracy.

The boys teasing Uma about the fact that a hairy troll named Moe (who works at the Slop Shop) has a crush on her and how he even slipped her a note once.

Ben, Harry, and Gil tried to look innocent as they had chocolate and crumbs all over their faces as they tried to stammer out excuses, but it was kind of hard to do with their mouths full.

Y/N sighed. "Enough! You three are going to help me bake a new batch tonight, and you're going to hand out free milk tomorrow as punishment."

They watched him walk away as they swallowed the remaining cookies in their mouths. "Dudes, Y/N's so pissed." Gil said.

"I told you we were going to get caught, Harry." Ben glared at the son of Captain Hook.

Harry smiled. "Ah know. It's why ah suggested it."

For the past week and a half Bella sneaks over to the Isle to hangout with Gil and Harry getting to know them and they all got close pretty fast. At the moment she was getting ready to head off again but Mal was standing outside her room.

"Nope, you aren't allowed to go over there anymore. Ben, your parents, and I all agreed."

"Excuse me?" Bella laugh, "You four can't do that."

"But we did and we told others to make sure you don't. It's for your own good. I've heard some stuff from some people who still hate us. They hate how you're making yourself at home over there." Mal lies to her because she knew why she was sneaking over there deep down just like Ben did.

"You guys are ridiculous." Bella walks past her to go to the library instead.

Mal makes her way to Ben's room, "I stop Bella from going to the Isle. I told her it's off limits for her now. I made up some lie to say it's dangerous for her."

"Great, it's I just don't want her getting close with Harry. And you said yourself."

"There's many reasons I don't want that to happen and I know how he is so. Plus he's Uma's first mate and Uma spelled you and they kidnapped you." Mal huffs taking a seat.

"I know, I know." He kisses her cheek.

In the library, Bella kept complaining out loud since no one was hardly ever in there except for this time it was Audrey, "Can you please stop complaining?"

"Me? You're still butt hurt Ben chose Mal over you. Get over it you have Chad, who is in love with you." Bella goes to a different aisle.

"You're just as bad for being okay with it. Didn't tell him how wrong it was." Audrey follows her.

"Because I didn't and still don't care for you. You've never been nice to me once since meeting me. And while dating Ben, you were still snobby with me." Bella turns to face her, "So that's why I was happy when Ben got with Mal." Bella smiles leaving going off to the woods just to get away.

Hours pass and Mal and Ben start to get worried about not seeing Bella around. They asked everyone ans no one had any idea where she went. "Evie, do you think she went to the Isle?" Mal asks her.

"Nope, she usually lets me know first."

"So you knew she's alway sneaking off over there?" Mal crosses her arms.

"To go hangout with Dizzy, yes. She goes to over there to help her out with what to expect here and other things. Do you thinks she goes over there for wild adventures?" Evie slightly lies for Bella.

"That's why she goes over there? For Dizzy?"

"Yes, Mal." Evie laughs, "She always comes back to tell me what they did the whole day."

"Oh, so where the heck is she right now?" Mal huffs as Bella walks through Evie's door. "There you are! Where have you been?"

"Out in the woods to read and get away from everyone. Mostly you, Ben, and then Audrey." Bella tells her, "You guys banned me from the Isle and she bugs me about you and Ben. So sorry I wanted some peace." Bella walks past going to the kitchen.

"Give her some space, Mal." Evie pats her back so Mal leaves.

"I can't believe they banned me from the Isle. I promised Dizzy she could do my hair tomorrow and now I can't let her know why I'm not showing up." Bella slams her hands down in the counter.

"Just breathe, B." Evie walks over to rub her shoulders, "Dizzy will understand and the boys probably will too. Also don't worry, I lied saying you only see Dizzy over there. I got your back still." Evie smiles resting her head on Bella's shoulders.

"Have I told you how amazing you are?" Bella makes her laugh.

"Yes, but you can say it again."

"You're amazing, Evie." Bella laughs.

Weeks have passed and today was the arrival of the new four VK's coming over. Also Ben was planning to propose to Mal which Bella was happy to have her a sister in law instead. For the proposal, the important people gather around Doug as he played the guy while Ben sang to Mal before getting down on his knee.

"Mal, it's you and me forever. Will you marry me? Will you be my Queen?"

"No!" Audrey shouts making Bella look at her disgusted with her while Mal says yes making everyone cheer.

"Someday, you'll meet your true love." Adam places his hands on Bella's shoulders. "It takes time. Trust me, I know." He tells her.

"I'm fine alone, dad but I know." Bella laughs. When Ben comes down and so dose Mal, Bella goes over to the girls, "Hey, sister." Bella hugs Mal.

"Did you know too?"

"Of course I did." Bella laughs.

"I get another daughter!" Belle hugs Mal.

"I finally get a sister. I think I win." Bella gives Ben a playful dirty look so he hugs her.

"You love me, sis." He makes her laugh till she sees Audrey talking to Mal.

She gets out of his hug going over to them, "You spelled Ben to destroy all of Auradon. Touching story for the grandkids."

"Hate to break it to you, but the moment they arrived Ben had a thing for Mal. It was obvious the way he looked at her. And o could tell because I know my brother well. And after the spell washed away in the enchanted lake he still liked her." Bella glares at Audrey, "As I said, get over it."

"Okay. Let's do this!" Ben shouts out.

"Speaking of kids, we have some kids waiting on us. So... if you'll excuse me. Bee, you can come too. Dizzy would like that." Mal tells her so they leave Audrey. "Thank you for that." Mal adds.

"It's true. Plus I got my sister's back." Bella makes Mal smile as they all get in the limo.

Getting to the Isle to pick up the kids, Dizzy was excited to see Bella again. Leaving though Hades gets halfway through the barrier and Mal turns into a dragon to fight him back. Bella knew there was something since she could tell Mal wasn't putting her all into hurting him.

When they get back home Bella grabs Mal's arm stopping her to talk, "That was your father wasn't it? Mal, you went easy on him. And I know that Amber doesn't drain powers. I read."

Mal pulls her closer, "Only Evie knows and now you do so could you please keep it a secret too?" Mal begs her.

"I mean, yeah. But why not tell Ben?" Bella asks her.

"Because it's Hades and for one he wasn't around much so I'm not close to him." Mal adds.

"I won't tell him." Bella lets her know.

Belle, Adam, Fairy godmother, Ben, Bella and Mal end up getting together for a meeting about Hades because people are in a panic and scared about the risk of another villain out.

"Every time we open the barrier, we're exposed to danger. Maleficent, Uma, Hades." Adam tells the group while Ben gets a notice Maleficent scepter and the queen's crown was stolen.

"Uma." Adam says.

"We don't know that, Dad." Bella tells him, "That wasn't needed for her goal. All she wanted was for other kids to come over for a better life. Did she go the right wat, no. But still."

"When the people hear this, they will never wanna leave their houses. What do we tell them? Mal? What do we do? How do we keep the evil out of Auradon?" Belle speaks up.

Everyone looks at Mal, "I think the there's only... one way to guarantee their safety. And I think that there... can't be anymore going in and out. I think we have to close the barrier... forever." Mal says.

"No, that's bull. You promised those kids they could go see their families. And that means Evie, Carlos, and Jay can't see their parents either. You think just villains are evil? There are plenty of people here that could be evil if they have a good enough reason. Example your ex. I know my vote doesn't mean anything but no." Bella leaves mad about the situation.

When Bella goes over to Evie's place later, she hears Mal talking to Evie about the situation going on and hearing from Evie's words Mal didn't tell her it was her idea.

While Mal walks out she bumps into Bella, "I'm not telling Evie the truth because you will when it's time. You'll  deal with consequences about it." Bella whispers before going into the room.
