Gonna be a hot take, but I feel like, especially now after Baldur's Gate III, I think certain people should take a sort of chill pill when it comes to how certain fic writers write certain characters.

Take Astarion for example. Depending on certain choices you make, as well as how your luck plays out, you could either end up with Vampire Ascendant Astarion(evil) or Vampire Spawn Astarion(Good). People enjoy him one way or another. And then there's people who enjoy him both ways.

With that in mind, I really want to say that that same logic could apply to Mohg too. You can write and enjoy him in the most evil way possible, or you can take a different route that explores a softer side.

Because honestly... And I realize this is probably gonna be a hard pill to swallow for some people, but Mohg himself was a victim too... Most everyone in Elden Ring was in some way, shape or form.

It doesn't excuse some of the things he's done, no... But I can't bring myself to believe that he's irredeemable.

It would take a journey, but I can't bring myself to believe that it's entirely out of the question...

#to clarify i am not doing this to be an asshole i am doing it because i had neat dice facts and strong opinions #there's a specific rule about how rolls are resolved if you don't have *anything* in your dice pool #but unfortunately in tough situations (where you'd be cutting the highest 1 or 2 results) #the roll resolution with nothing gives you better odds than mid-tier dice pools. statistically disincentivizing using your skills. #to be fair one can come up with potential narrative and mechanical workarounds as a dm #and it does require your players to either be desperate (not putting together an alternate route) or to have also run the numbers #(and to be willing to use a mechanical loophole) #but as i had neat stats information (hooray!) and one of my favorite activities is rules-lawyering i had to say *something* #anyway! dice-rolling stats are *weird* and vary *wildly* depending on how your system uses them #and a fun and easy thing you can do before playing any new ttrpg is get yourself some dice stats information #familiarize yourself with your odds of success

I'm thinking about it right now because it came up in a reply, but Vox very firmly believes in the idea of "showing up late to a meeting strictly as a power move." Like he will make you pay if you make him wait, but he will always make you wait if you're meeting him for business-related reasons.

But where it gets weird is that he always is extremely precise in how late he will be. It will vary depending on the situation, but as a baseline, at least a minute and forty-five seconds--just enough time to get everyone a little teensy bit tense but not enough to actually throw off his schedule. There are a number of checks and variables he has in place to determine exactly how much he'll run over:

Customer or buyer of services is having a first meeting with him: 7 minutes, 53 seconds

A "Somebody Outside This Room Ha Fucked Up" meeting: 2 minutes, 5 seconds

A "Somebody Inside This Room Has Fucked Up" meeting: 39 minutes, 12 seconds

Engineering/R&D is presenting something to him: 14 minutes, 57 seconds

The reasons for these extremely specific timeframes are a mystery to anyone but him. He has an internal clock that he uses to time his follow-through on this policy down to the second.

Chaz is actually a really good cook. In addition to working for the mob, he also has spent a fair bit of time working in and out of kitchens, pretty much doing every job in bars and restaurants that you can do. Between that and living alone and being broke as fuck for most of his adult life, he's learned how to be really resourceful when it comes to cooking.

More than a few less-than-stellar one night stands were at least partially saved by him making a pretty killer morning after breakfast.

So I used to be a pizza deliver driver, and that was pretty great for me; it made me feel like a video game character doing Quests. And when you started your shift as a driver, you got a wad of 15 singles for making change which was deducted from your tips at the end of the night. And this was back in the very early 20teens so $15 American just so happened to also be the price of half a tank of gas and a pack of Marlboro reds, so it was often also a sort of interest-free loan.

Now, a trope in pornography which was once so common that I myself have never actually seen a genuine portrayal of it but only seen it parodied runs thusly: A brave hero is delivering a pizza to some beautiful person who, upon receipt of the pizza, says, "Unfortunately I don't have any money; could I perhaps cover the cost of the pizza with sexual favors?" And always the hero agrees to this Faustian bargain which I'm sure must seem quite reasonable to you uninitiated civilians.

But, see, I'm making minimum wage. I have no savings. And I already spent my bank on half a tank of gas and a pack of Marlboro reds. So I'm $15 in the hole, and do you know what happens when you don't cash out at the end of the night? The manager calls the cops, and the cops come to your house. Mr. Domino is gonna get his $15 back by hook or by crook. I seen it happen. So if I accept the beautiful person's modest proposal, I'm mortgaging future tips against the $15 *and* the price of the pizza--which can get up there, depending on the order--and if I don't fix those books by the end of my shift, that could get to be a real pain in my ass.

Just doesn't make sense, y'know, from like a business perspective. Maybe it'd be worth a gamble. Maybe if it was like a beautiful woman who was a service top and also a werewolf, maybe you roll the dice and hope for the hard 6. But you gotta be risk-aware, is all I'm sayin.
