everyone turned to you confused all while you were out of breath, nearly falling to the floor in laughter

Sero ran up and tilted his head

"dude, what's wrong?"

when you finally caught your breath, you pointed at Sero's shirt and just started laughing again

he thought he had a stain on it or something and was still confused

when you finally calmed down, you wiped a tear from your eye, trying to breathe

“Crap, I must look like an idiot like this.” Kaminari realized as you quickly tried to make some space for him under your umbrella, unsuccessfully. 

—Kami, what the… You're all wet! Look at you.— Denki heard you worry, but he could only answer with a goofy smile as you spoke. His hands held a couple of daisies, a little wilty and muddy due to the boys carelessness. —Flowers, for you! You like them?— He panted, extending you the improvised bouquet he had built for you.

Tokoyami had once told him how daisies meant new beginnings and that every flower was meant for a special occasion. So he thought of you almost immediately, using what little money he had saved to buy you some. What better than a daisy to tell you he wanted to take a step further with you?

He felt his heart beat go crazy whenever he was around you, and it wasn't hard for him to realize that (even if you were his best friend) he wanted to be by your side in a way only his heart could know. So he prayed to God, to All Might, to anyone that could favor him, that you'd return his feelings.

Your eyes watched bewildered as the boy stood in front of you, his expression unfazed by the thick drops of rain that were soaking him. Sighing, you shook your head.

—How many times do I have to tell you?— He heard you say, his smile faltering a little. —Denki, you can't flirt with everyone all the time, you'll end up hurting someone one day.

Truth be said, you'd always had (more than) a soft spot for Kaminari. He was your best friend since high-school, and it'd be lying to say you didn't harbor feelings for him.

You just wished he could treat your heart more seriously instead of going around trying to get easy love.

Kaminari's chest ached at your words, not understanding your rejection. 

—But, I got these for you… do you not like them?— He asked, his voice noticeably becoming blue. —I- I just like you a lot and- I know you are my best friend but I want to be something more!

You lifted his chin with your fingertips, feeling a lump in your throat at his sad-eyed expression. —Kami, you don't like me. You like the idea of having a girlfriend, and I- I can't be it for that very same reason. I don't want to be your girlfriend just because you hate being single.

Kaminari frowned, clenching his hands in fists. He was not gonna give up that easy on you; even if he had to stand outside your room day and night like a guard dog, he was going to win your heart.

—Why can't you believe me?— He asked, taking your hand on his as he placed it in his chest. You could feel his heart beating fast as the emotions inside his heart tried hard to reach you. —When have I lied to you?

Never, he had never (nor would ever) lie to you– not like he can, you could read him like a book. But you were scared, afraid of saying yes and then getting hurt.

For so long you'd watched Kaminari flirt with other girls that your mind simply couldn't grasp the idea of him wanting to be by your side for real.

You gave him your umbrella and walked away, not wanting to continue the conversation any longer.

—Please, get a hot shower soon, I don't want you getting sick.

The blond felt hopeless, tightly clutching to the umbrella as if it was a lifeboat that could get him to you. How was he supposed to make you see he was serious?

For a brief moment he found himself lonely, so so lonely. 

He cursed underneath his breath, regretting his past choices. It's true that he had always made a fool of himself to try and be of girls’ liking, it wasn't something he was proud of. You changed things for him, whatsoever; the patience and tenderness you'd showed had him wrapped around your finger.

What he felt was intense, innocent and pure, first love at its finest. The kind he could only feel for his best friend.

Standing still for a second, he thought about his next movement. “Now or never, Kaminari. Get your act together!” He thought, rushing to your side once more.

Not giving you time to even react, he turned you around as his lips clashed with yours in a clumsy kiss. You could taste the vanilla soda he had been drinking earlier combined with the odd flavor of raindrops. It was rushed, but the warmth of his soft lips gave you a tingling sensation. 

Instinctively, you melted into the kiss, leaning into his touch. Kaminari felt like his heart was going to escape from his chest at any moment, the sweet sensation of your mouth driving him crazy. After a while, you cut it out, panting for air.

“I really just did that, oh, fuck-” Kaminari thought, feeling nervousness rush from the tip of his toes to the top of his head. He could feel his dread grow with every passing second you weren't saying anything. "Is she angry?"

—Kami...

—I like you, for real. And I may not be the perfect prince you deserve, but I wanna learn to be one for you. I want to be with you.

Small tears of joy formed in the corner of your eyes, speechless at his bold declaration. “This dork is going to be the end of me, isn't he?” You realized with a warm smile.

—If you can accept me… if you can accept these daisies, you'd really make me feel lucky for the first time in my life. —He pleaded, offering you once more his humble gift.

With a tender touch, your hands took the small white flowers, placing one of them on Kaminari's hair.

—I like you too, Kami. I was just scared.— You admitted, finally allowing yourself to be sincere. —Now I see you are being honest and- I'd love to be by your side too.

Kaminari's eyes sparked with happiness, excitedly hugging you.

—Thank you, thank you, thank you!— He blurted, dropping the umbrella. His lips found yours for a second time, the bad weather long forgotten.

The next few days, the two of you had to deal with an awful cold, but at least you were happy knowing your heart was loved just as much as you loved Kaminari.

I've always encapsulated Akutagawa's character and his beauty as being something along "pretty/inconspicuous at first, monstrous upon closer look," trope. Something something about him being the complete opposite of Rashomon (weak, frail, pretty vs strong, powerful and durable and mostly, terrifying to look at) which add onto that pretty/monstrous dynamic, because rashomon is everything he is not but wants to be. He's pretty the way a spider is pretty--all strange and long limbed, scary, and creepy to everyone else except the few people that can tolerate them longer than a few seconds. Sometimes, people are uncessarily cruel to spiders that way, too, whether or not they've done something wrong or not. He is often the spider crushed under someone's foot until it explodes, me thinks.

I don't know what I'm trying to get at here. This isn't disagreeing with you cause I think ugly describes a lot of aspects of akutagawa from his personality, insecurities, and his life (maybe not his appearance, tho, but that might just be me staring at his tiny waist and not his redflags). I also just think that man is pretty especially in the panels where he is at his most unhinged (like the where he smiles at Kyouka during the cannibalism arc). him looking like a corpse is also why I would willingly court him (thanks nagito for helping me discover my taste in men) I just may have bad taste. Banger analysis tho.

I REALLY can see the simile with spiders– it's brilliant!!! It's such a fitting comparison. That's exactly why Atsushi can still love him. The observation on Rashomon being everything Akutagawa isn't is so incredibly spot on too!!! I have barely anything to add, this makes such an extraordinary and suitable description of Akutagawa. Thank you so much for sharing!!!

I really can't understand thinking of Akutagawa as pretty– but like, in the fun “it's amusing how peoples' brains all work differently” way!! I am baffled at the concept of that cannibalism panel being taken as example for Akutagawa being pretty: that panel is so so many things to me, but pretty is certainly not one of them. I feel that panel strongly!! After all, it's one of the very rare Akutagawa smiling panels, it's a panel I've studied up close in the past. And I, too, love it in a way: that panel is so many things. It's terrifying, at first look. It's creepy, unsettling, distressing. Then it honestly and unexpectedly starts feeling kind of endearing. His eyes are big and sparkling, he almost looks like a child who just arrived to the playground– a very creepy and unsettling child, but still. It makes Akutagawa look very young. It is a very scary, unsettling expression, but after looking at it for a while, one grows to understand that it's a moment of Akutagawa experiencing pure, sheer and honest happiness. which you come to realize is something he doesn't get to have very often. And his very happiness is dark and twisted, just like he is; but isn't it somehow still endearing to see him display such a genuine and honest emotion, for once? The fact that the only way for him to express it results deeply horrifying is only all the more emblematic of Akutagawa's character, of how even something as pure and uncorrupted as happiness will result terrifying on him. It ultimately makes him kind of pitiful, too, which I guess is another strong component of Akutagawa's character. (Note, I'm leaving aside considerations on Harukawa's art style, which honestly ends up resulting elegant and enjoyable to look at no matter who they're portraying.)

Like, if I had to choose one panel of Akutagawa being pretty it'd be... Well‚ the only chapter 88 panel that matters, c'mon– at the price of coming off as lame, but how else could I. Is there anything more pretty, more pure‚ more sacred than sacrifice itself? But really, that still stands in support of my case of Akutagawa not being pretty, because chapter 88 Akutagawa is the least Akutagawa he's ever been in the whole manga, if you know what I mean.
