This is for @samsseptember's Samtember 2023 for the "Delacroix" day! It's a little tourism spiel where someone on Delacroix's tourism board maybe emphasized Sam a little too much in the tourism 😂 Bucky, is that you? Enjoy! 🥰

Samtember Day 03: Delacroix | Louisiana
422 Words | Rated G | @samsseptember
Tumblr media
Sam never thought he would be the person to open up a bar in New Orleans, but here he was, full-time Captain America, and part-time bar owner with his partner, Bucky. It was Bucky’s idea. He bartended in Delacroix for a while before deciding that he wanted his own bar and managed to convince Sam to go along with his plan. He had a solid business plan which he came up with all by himself. Sam was impressed, to say the least.
So now here they were, two months into their new venture. Sam spent most of his time on missions but when he did get time off, he would come down to New Orleans and help Bucky out with the business. Tourists were particularly interested in the fact that the place was run by Captain America and Bucky Barnes, while locals didn’t seem to care. That’s why Sam loves Louisiana.
It was one of those rare Saturdays when Sam got the opportunity to come to New Orleans and meet Bucky. When he walked into the bar, he was pleasantly surprised to see the Avengers there.
“Sam!” Scott yelled over the loud music. “You’re here!”
“When did you all get here?” Sam asked as he got behind the bar and kissed Bucky’s cheek.
“Hours ago!” Kata hiccuped as she drank a pink and green cocktail.
“Are you even old enough to drink?” Sam asked her.
“That’s what I asked!” Riri chimed in and gently punched Sam’s shoulder. “Took you long enough!”
“Sam!” Torres leaned over the bar and tried to hug Sam. “I missed you.”
Bucky frowned at that, making Sam laugh a little. He awkwardly patted Torres on the back, as he asked, “So many have you had to drink?”
“Not enough!” Torres said pulling away and giving Sam a goofy smile. “Did I tell you I missed you?”
“Yeah, you may have said something about that,” Bucky grumbled and glared at Torres.
Torres put his hands up in surrender and batted his eyes at Bucky. “Can I have another beer?”
“Sure,” Bucky sighed opened a bottle, and put it in front of Torres.
“Let’s all do shots!” Hope shouted over the music. “Sam, that means you too!”
“Hell yeah!” Sam picked up a bottle of vodka and yelled, “Who wants shots? First rounds on the house!”
The whole bar erupted with excitement.
Sam poured vodka into a row of shot glasses and everyone took a glass. “To New Orleans!” Sam yelled.
“To New Orleans!” Everyone shouted and took a drink.

Jean Frédéric Bazille, Atelier de la rue Furstenberg (Studio on Rue Furstenberg), 1866
Studio on Rue Furstenberg belongs to an increasing trend of Impressionist painting that depicted the artist's workspace, which Bazille once shared with Claude Monet. The painting shows two disheveled armchairs surrounded by supplies and a doorway that leads to two small bedrooms. While no one knows who is using the studio, the paintings on the wall appear to be Monet's The Beach at Honfleur (1864) and Road by Saint-Siméon Farm (1867), partnered by Bazille's Beach at Sainte-Adress (1865). While Impressionism is known for its landscapes, the only reference to the outside world we see here is a cracked window door, through which a grey sky is visible. Judging by the real life geography of this studio, located close to the Louvre, the window is positioned to look out at a studio space where the artist Eugène Delacroix would have worked. The composition of the studio here is thought to reference Studio Corner with Stove (1830), a painting by Delecroix, whom both Bazille and Monet greatly admired.

‘Sardanapalo’ — Liszt’s Lost Opera.
youtube
How Liszt's Lost Opera was Rescued.
Sardanapalo (S.687) is an unfinished opera by Franz Liszt. Written between 1845 and 1852, it is based on the 1821 verse play Sardanapalus by Lord Byron. The first act is mostly complete but there is no evidence of any music being notated for Acts 2–3.
It was long believed that the manuscript was illegible until 2016 when British musicologist David Trippett managed to produce both a critical edition and an orchestral performing edition (after Liszt's own instrumental cues for orchestration). Sardanapalo received its world premiere in Weimar on 19 August 2018.

Delacroix, La Mort de Sardanapale. 1827.
Based on Byron's tragedy Sardanapalus (1821) and inspired by the works of his contemporaries — Delacroix’s painting, La Mort de Sardanapale (1827), and Berlioz’s cantata, Sardanapale (1830) — tells the story of Sardanapalus, the effeminate and self-indulgent king of Assyria. After being challenged for his debauched ways, Sardanapalus was forced to take up arms, and, following a prolonged resistance that ultimately failed, chose to avoid capture by suicide.

Manuscript of Berlioz’s Sardanapale.
Berlioz’s own work, Sardanapale, with which he won the 1830 Prix de Rome, now only survives in the form of an air and the Fire finale, as he destroyed the score. This was perhaps due to his composition being more conservative than his usual output in order to better his chances in winning the prize. This led Berlioz to deprecate the work, calling it his most “commonplace” cantata. Even so, Liszt, who was present at the second performance of the oratorio, felt there was potential for operatic treatment in the tale, particularly given that the performance had featured the dramatic scene of Sardanapalus burning himself and all his possessions (including slaves and concubines) on a funeral pyre.

Berlioz, Sardanapale, H.50. [fragments].
Liszt’s close associate, the Princess Belgiojoso, procured for him an unnamed Italian poet as a librettist who was under house arrest at the time for agitating towards Italian independence. Liszt received the libretto for the first act on New Year's Day 1847 and the remainder followed 18 months later. However, Liszt was uncertain about aspects of the text for Acts 2–3 and asked Belgiojoso to have them revised.

Manuscript of Act 1 of Liszt’s Sardanapalo.
Between April 1850 and December 1851 Liszt notated 110 pages of music. Despite this, Liszt abandoned his work on the opera soon after. It is possible that this was due to Liszt’s concern that anything he produced would pale in comparison to the pioneering operas of his friend Wagner. More likely, however, is that Liszt's abandonment resulted from the fact that he never received a revised libretto for Acts 2 and 3, so could not set these to music.
Below you can listen to the entirety of the first act:

Eugène Delacroix speaks with Menneval about the abdication of Napoleon. Marshal Ney conspires to kill Napoleon.
———
Note:
Baron de Menneval (1778-1850), the former secretary of Napoleon who had accompanied him in the retreat from Russia; author of a book of memories of the Empire.
Baron Fain (1778-1837), one of the secretaries of the Emperor, published historical memories of the Empire.
———
From Delacroix’s journal. Monday, 23 July 1849:
In the evening M. Menneval told me of the frightful conduct of the generals and marshals toward the Emperor, at Arcis-sur-Seine or sur-Aube. M. Fain, lodging in another house than that of the Emperor, and crossing a square in order to join his master, came on a group of generals, among them Marshal Ney, who were deliberating among themselves as to whether they should not mete out to their benefactor the fate of Romulus: to kill him and to bury him there seemed to them as good a means as any other of getting rid of him and of getting back to their hotel, where they could enjoy themselves; he was, so they said, the scourge of France, etc. The Emperor, to whom M. Fain related the affair with emotion that will be imagined, contented himself with saying that they were mad.
Marshal Ney’s greatest impropriety toward him occurred after the battle of the Moscova, when he complained that by sparing the guard, the Emperor had deprived him of the fruits of a more complete victory. Marshal Ney was the cruelest at Fontainebleau; he went to the point of threatening him with physical injury if he did not abdicate.
In the course of the Russian campaign, Berthier did not fear to tell him how terrible it was to see oneself endlessly dragged into new enterprises: “What good does it do,” said he, “to have wealth, houses, and lands, if one has to go to war eternally and compromise everything?”
To their reproaches, which often were odious, Napoleon’s only answer was patience; despite their ingratitude, he loved them as old comrades.
Before the last years, M. Menneval told me no one had dared to permit himself an observation when he gave an order. Confidence had partially abandoned him, but the sureness and firmness of his genius not at all, as the French campaign so well proved. If, at Waterloo, at the end of the battle, there had been at his disposal that reserve of the guard which he refused to engage at the Moscova, he would still have won the battle, despite the arrival of the Prussians.
I asked M. Menneval whether he had not been completely indisposed at the Moscova, according to generally accredited opinion. This is correct: he was sick, and attacked with a loss of voice, especially after the battle, so that it was impossible for him to give a spoken order.
He was obliged to scribble his orders on bits of paper. Notwithstanding, he was completely master of his ideas. But after the battle of Dresden, the sudden indisposition with which he was seized paralyzed all the operations, carried with it the defeat of Vandamme, etc.
During the Consulate, he was very sick with malignant mange. which he had contracted at the siege of Toulon. He would lean against his table, pressing his side with his hand during crises of violent suffering. His paleness and his thinness, at this period, are explained by this sickly condition. Corvisart got him rid of his disease, at least in appearance; but it is probable that the disease of which he died had its original cause in this cruel malady.

Myshuno Power Couple
One cannot talk about the big city of San Myshuno without talking about Amelie Dencker and Nicolas Delacroix. Before Amelie made it big as an influencer, she was a beauty vlogger in the beginning of high school, giving out tips how to apply makeup and put outfits together. During high school, she met Nicolas, an up and coming, yet already rather successful lawyer. The two instantly fell in love with each other, and Amelie knew what she wanted. She wanted to be the best woman for the wealthy and handsome Delacroix. This affected her simstube channel greatly, and going from close to 500 followers to nearly 20k over a month was the kickstart of her influencer career. Now she doesn't only vlog about fashion and beauty, but also as a lifestyle coach. Nicolas comes from the wealthy and well-known Delacroix family. His family owns law firms across the country. Successful, charismatic and affluent, Nicolas knows what he wants, and although he isn't flaunting money he isn't shy to get the love of his life exactly what she needs - only the best is good enough.
I've wanted to put this amazing simself of @pixelglam into my game for so long, and Nicholas has been sitting in my bin waiting for attention. I hope to do this amazing sim justice as a townie in my game ♥ Small lookbook for Amelie coming soon. Maybe OC facts as well? ♥
