The party was in full swing when Andy Barber walked through the door. The lawyer stopped at the table and, leaning down, wrote his name on a tag. It had been twenty years since he’d seen any of these people. A lot had changed. As he wandered around the old gymnasium, he closed his eyes and listened for the sounds of squeaking shoes. A hand bumped Andy’s shoulder and a male voice floated through the air, “Well, I’ll be damned. Andrew Barber. Never thought I would see you here again.”
Andy turned to find his old point guard buddy, Dan Murdoch, standing behind him. A wide grin spread across both men’s faces and Dan stepped forward as the men shook hands then hugged. Andy Barber pulled back, “How have you been, Dan?”
Dan replied, “Oh you know, just living the dream.”
The lawyer nodded, “What are you up to now? I haven’t seen you since graduation.”
Andy’s friend chuffed, “I went to college and got a finance degree. I’m working as a hedge fund manager. You?”
Barber scratched his neck, “I went to college as well and got a law degree. Got married and had a kid. We’re divorced now and share custody of our son.”
“Damn, that sucks. How old is your kid?”
“He’s sixteen. What about you?”
“Yeah. I married Brooke Thacker and we have three kids.”
Andy smirked and cocked an eyebrow, “The head cheerleader? Good for you, man.”
Dan threw back the beer he had in his hand and wiped his mouth with his thumb, “Yep. I hate that you and Audrey got divorced.”
A sad look crossed Andy’s face, “Naw, man. I never married Audrey McCaig. She was the one that got away. My ex-wife’s name is Laurie. You don’t know her. We went to college together and I accidentally knocked her up. We thought we were in love but some events in the last few years kind of fucked that up.”
It was Dan’s turn to raise an eyebrow, “That sucks. You know Audrey’s here right? I heard she never married. She’s a stunner, man. You should talk to her.”
Andy shook his head, “That ship probably sailed. Besides, I’m not here for that. I just want to have a good time.”
Dan nodded, “I get that. Grab a beer, socialize, have a good time. There’s a lot of folks here who would love to talk to the star quarterback. We missed ya, man.”
Andy smiled and Dan walked away. Quietly, the lawyer made his way to the drink and food table and made himself a plate. He turned and walked out into the open air just outside the gym. As he did so, a quiet voice interrupted his thoughts, “Andy?”
He turned and all the air left his body. There before him was the most beautiful woman he’d seen in a long time. Her brown hair was pulled to the side in a braid and her green eyes sparkled in the lights. Andy knew her and one word, a name, softly escaped his lips, “Audrey.”
Audrey McCaig stared, “I never thought you would come back here. When you left without saying goodbye, I thought you weren’t coming back. No one even saw you when your mother passed away.”
Andy nodded, “We had a quiet graveside for my mom. She didn’t want a funeral.”
“I heard,” Audrey paused a moment, “that you got married.”
He sniffed, “I’m not married anymore. We divorced last year.”
Audrey tilted her head, “I’m so sorry, Andy. Any kids?”
“Just one,” Andy murmured, “A boy named Jacob. He’s sixteen and lives primarily with his mother. What about you?”
She lowered her eyes, “No. I never married or had kids. You hurt me and I didn’t want to try to trust another man.”
His food and drink sat forgotten on the concrete rail of the stairs. Andy hesitantly stepped forward and touched her arm before speaking softly, “I’m very sorry. If it’s worth anything, I never forgot you. Every night I turned over and wished that it was you lying beside me. You are very special to me, Audrey.”
Placing a finger under Audrey’s chin, Andy raised her head. For the first time in twenty years, blue eyes met green ones and became entranced in each other. As if a mystical force was possessing him, Andy gently lowered his face toward Audrey’s and her eyes fluttered shut. Their lips connected and a small moan escaped Audrey’s lips.
Breathless, Andy pulled back, “Wow.”
Audrey stepped away, “Andy, I can’t… Not again.”
Then she turned and was gone leaving Andy standing alone. Tears stung his eyes as he turned away from the building and toward the football field. He picked up his plate of food and a beer then made his way onto the field. Stepping over to the bleachers, Andy sat down. For a few minutes, he sat in silence then a small cough broke his concentration. He looked up to see Audrey standing by the steps of the bleachers.
“Andy…”
The man stood up, “Hey. I’m sorry about earlier.”
The brunette shook her head, “Don’t apologize. It’s fine. I came to apologize for my reaction.”
Andy replied, “It’s fine. I need a top up on my drink. Come with me?”
Audrey smiled sadly, “I’m going to go. I just wanted to say goodbye to you.”
Andy’s heart sank, “I understand. I was hoping we could visit a little more but I understand. It was good to see you.”
His old sweetheart stepped up to him and kissed Andy’s cheek, “It was so good to see you too. I hope I see you again some time.”
She stepped back to leave but Andy grabbed her hand and pulled her close, “Please stay with me. I’m leaving tomorrow but I would like to see you tonight.”
Audrey hummed, “I don’t know, Andy. It’s been so long…”
Before Andy could say anything else, Audrey pulled away from him and rushed away. Hurriedly, Andy picked up the plate and beer and threw them in the trash can at the corner of the bleachers before following.
“Audrey, wait.”
The woman stopped in her tracks and turned as Andy closed the gap between them. He spoke, “I’m sorry I freaked you out. I’m staying at the TownePlace Suites if you change your mind. Room 217.”
He kissed Audrey’s hand and she kissed his cheek before walking away. Andy returned to the party where he ran into a few more of his football buddies and classmates before he left North Kingstown Senior High School.
Getting in his car, the lawyer drove fifteen minutes to his hotel. As he entered the TownePlace Suites, he made his way to the elevator and up to his room. Andy opened the door and stepped into the room. After placing his keys, wallet and phone on the room table, Andy went to the bathroom where he stripped and stepped into the shower.
The hot water relaxed Andy’s muscles and he imagined the droplets being the gentle, fleeting touch of Audrey McCaig’s fingertips dancing on his skin. His dick twitched and began to harden as he thought about Audrey. Swiftly, the man grasped his cock gently in his hand and stroked it as the water rolled down his shoulders. The more he focused on his dirty thoughts and memories, the harder he got and closer he got to his release. Finally, and with a shout, Andy let go and shot his release all over his hand.
After cleaning himself off again, Andy shut off the water and stepped from the shower. He wrapped a towel around his waist and ran a towel over his hair. A gentle knock on the hotel room door broke Andy’s concentration. He approached it and glanced through the peep hole then threw the door open.
Audrey stood in the doorway. She gasped softly at the sight of Andy’s sculpted muscles and toned chest. He looked down at himself, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t think you would actually come.”
The woman smiled, “Can I come in?”
Stepping aside, Andy swept his hand toward the interior of the room as Audrey crossed the threshold. She sat down on one of the beds and Andy excused himself to the bathroom to put on a pair of sleeping pants. Audrey looked about the room taking in the bareness of the suitcase that lay open on the spare double bed.
“I’m glad you’re here.” Came Andy’s voice from the bathroom, “I feel like we have a lot to talk about.”
She leaned back on her hands, “We do.”
Andy exited the bathroom, “I was glad to see you, Audrey. I mean that. I know that life has been hard for you.”
Audrey shook her head, “Not really. I have had a great life. Even though I never married, I made it just fine.”
“Really?” Andy cocked his eyebrow, “What do you mean?”
The woman before him laughed, “I mean, I graduated college with top honors. I have an amazing career and I can afford to buy everything I could possibly want.”
Slowly, Andy lowered himself onto the adjacent bed, “But surely you missed something?”
She looked away sadly, “I suppose I did. But that’s part of the past. I am curious…”
“What?”
A low sigh slipped out as Audrey gathered herself, “Why did you leave me, Andy? We talked so much about you and me. We were discussing our future together. Why did you decide to live your life without me?”
Gulping, Andy replied, “Because I was scared. I didn’t want you knowing about me. I was afraid that you would find out who I really was and you would get scared. In order to avoid that, I left you first. Surely, you understand?”
Confused, Audrey gave a little head shake, “I don’t. Andy, if you were concerned about something, you could have talked to me.”
He nodded, “I know that now. I just had so many secrets and I was so afraid of people finding them out. I was a scared kid.”
“How about now?”
Andy let his eyes meet Audrey’s, “What do you mean?”
Standing up, Audrey moved to sit by Andy. She took his hand as their eyes locked once more, “Are you still afraid of people finding out who you truly are?”
Andy didn’t break eye contact, “No, I’m not. Not anymore.”
Audrey waved her hand absentmindedly, “I don’t think it really matters. After all, we aren’t our parents. Their blood may flow in us but that doesn’t make us them. It doesn’t make us killers.”
The man stiffened and a modicum of fear flashed in his eyes, “What do you know?”
“Only what the news said, Andy. Your kid was cute but he must look more like his mother. When I saw the picture of you, I knew it was you. You had changed but I could still see that sweet, kind seventeen year old who had the whole world at his feet.”
He looked away but she turned his face back to her, “Andy…”
Timidly, Andy reached up and brushed his fingertips against Audrey’s jaw. He leaned forward and kissed Audrey gently. Breaking the kiss, he whispered, “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
The kiss was deepened as Andy pushed his lips further against Audrey’s mouth. Gently, he let his tongue prod Audrey’s mouth. Her lips parted and allowed him to explore. Andy’s hand raised up her back to the nape of her neck as he deepened the kiss even further. Audrey laid back on the bed as Andy twisted to continue the kisses.
Pulling back, Andy murmured, “Audrey, you’re wearing too much.”
She sat up and pulled her blouse over her head and Andy unhooked her bra effortlessly. Audrey shrugged it off. Andy kissed the woman’s bare shoulder, “My god, you’re still so beautiful.”
The kisses drifted down her shoulder and down toward her left breast as the lawyer took position above Audrey. Andy took the nipple in his mouth, teasing it with his tongue. Audrey threw her head back and moaned slightly. Never stopping, Andy unbuttoned Audrey’s pants then slipped his hand down them and let his fingers dance along her pelvis causing Audrey to buck. Switching from the left breast to the right, Andy swirled his tongue around the areola letting it brush the nipple.
Audrey raised her hips and pushed her pants down then kicked them across the room. Andy’s hand found its way down from Audrey’s pelvis to the folds of her vulva. He smiled to himself when discovered how wet she was and that she was completely shaved. Coming off her breast with a pop, he kissed a path down from the crevice between her breasts then to her stomach and down to her pelvis before landing between her legs.
Gently, he began to lick stripes up and down her pussy careful not to stick his tongue in the hole yet. The more he sucked at her pussy, the wetter she became and the more she squirmed. Audrey moaned loudly, “Andy, I need more. P-please. Oh. My. God. Andy…”
Andy let his tongue swirl around the clit before he began to suck hard at it. This elicited a loud moan from Audrey as her body drew closer to an orgasm. Knowing she was close, Andy reached up and slowly pushed a finger into her soaked hole and let his finger drag along her walls. He quickened the pace as he fingered the woman below him all while feasting on her soaking pussy as if he hadn’t had pussy in years. In truth, he hadn’t. Laurie rarely let him do this and the last time she had; Jacob was five.
Her walls clenched around him and Audrey let go with a cry, soaking Andy’s beard with her juices. He drank down the rest. Standing up, Andy untied his sleep pants and dropped them. His erection sprang free and laid long and thick against his stomach. Audrey let loose a ragged sigh, “Oh my god. Andy. I don’t think that’s gonna fit.”
He climbed up her body with a smile, “Don’t worry. It’ll fit. Just like it did the last time. Do you remember that?”
“You were my first.”
Andy kissed her gently, “And you were mine.”
Sitting on his knees, Andy grabbed her legs and pulled her toward him before pulling her legs slightly apart. Reaching down between their bodies, Andy grabbed his member and stroked her folds gathering up her juices to make the plunge easier. He paused, “Is this okay?”
“Do it, Andy. I need to feel you again.”
Without another word, Andy shoved in and marveled at the feeling of Audrey’s pussy pulsing around him and sucking him in. Audrey threw her head back, “Oh my god. Andy! Oh fuck.”
He let her sit for a moment to adjust to his size as he was thick and long. He knew that. Audrey reached up and touched his skin, “Please move. I’ll be okay.”
Andy smiled and began to slowly thrust in and out of Audrey, “Oh my god. This pussy was made for me. So tight and sweet.”
Audrey mewed, “Does it feel good, Andy?”
He closed his eyes as he pushed in and out of Audrey, “So good. You’re so tight for me baby. So fucking perfect for this thick dick. You’re so tight. My god.”
He began to pick up the pace as Audrey placed two fingers to her pussy and began rub it. He could feel another orgasm building and continued to fuck her as Audrey cried out, “Andy! I-I’m gonna cum. Oh god. I’m gonna cum! Oh fuuuuckk!! Andy!!”
His thrust became harder, “Yes baby. Cum for me.”
Andy’s encouragement and the movements inside her pushed Audrey over the edge and she came with a shout and a flourish. Trying to keep himself from exploding inside her, Andy reached down and turned Audrey onto her side before laying down behind her. He bent one leg so he could have access to that sweet juicy cunt. The lawyer lined himself up again and pushed in. From this angle, he was able to access deeper into the woman before him. He picked up the pace and thrust harder into Audrey.
Dissatisfied with the angle, Andy flipped Audrey all the way onto her stomach and pulled her up until she was on her hands and knees. Probing gently, Andy pushed in again. This time, the pussy felt so much tighter. Maybe it’s the angle. Andy mused. He quickened the pace and plunged deeper into her pussy. Andy could feel the tip of his cock kissing Audrey’s cervix. Her moans drove him even crazier and made him push harder and faster. Soon both of them had a climax threatening to explode. With a final thrust, Andy laid himself flat against Audrey’s back and fingered her making her cum. As she did, his own release mixed with hers. Audrey could feel Andy coating her walls with his seed. She didn’t care.
Finally collapsing, Andy rolled onto his back, “Wow.”
Audrey rolled onto her side, “You’ve still got it.”
He released a low chuckle, “Stay with me?”
And she did.
~~
Andy Barber sighed as he looked out the window of his Newton home. Laurie had just picked up Jacob and he hadn’t heard from Audrey since that night, seven weeks ago. Stirring his coffee, Andy sat down on the chair and looked at his phone for the third time in five minutes. As he scrolled through the news feed, the doorbell rang.
The lawyer stood up and made his way to the door and opened it. There, standing before him, was Audrey McCaig. Her face was puffy and she seemed uncertain. She had clearly been crying. Concern crossed his face but then she spoke, “I’m pregnant, Andy.”

The Naming Game
Characters: Andy Barber, Laurie Barber
Warnings: Murder, Shooting, Medical jargon, childbirth descriptions
Tumblr media
The smells of Italian food filled the kitchen as Andy and Laurie Barber ate over the sound of piano music. A glass of water sat in front of each of them. Laurie took a sip, “What about Amaya?”
Andy hummed, “Not a huge fan of Amaya. It sounds too ethnic. How about Ailsa?”
Laurie looked down at her swollen stomach and tilted her head, “That’s cute. What do you think about Ailsa, sweetie? Oh wow. I guess I will have to put that one on the list. I think she likes it. What about Serafina?”
Andy just about choked on a bite of lasagna, “Hell no. I knew a kid named Serafina in middle school. She was the meanest kid in the school if not the whole town. I think she ended up at a military school in ninth grade. Don’t know what happened to her after. Serafina is a huge no. What do you think about Daisy?”
“Ooh, Daisy. That’s extremely cute.”
She wrote down the name on a piece of paper underneath Ailsa and glanced up at her husband, “I really love the name Violet. Do you remember when I was pregnant with Jacob, the name we came up with had he been a girl?”
Andy leaned back in his chair, “I believe we had decided on Hannah Rosalie. Correction, you had decided on Hannah Rosalie. I wanted Sarah Grace.”
He grinned slyly and sighed, “I still love Sarah Grace. I also like the traditional form of Sarai. I think Sarai Grace Barber is still beautiful.”
Laurie smiled gently, “I love it. We’ll go with Sarai. It means princess, right?”
A broad smile crossed Andy’s face, “Really? It does mean princess. What made you change your mind on Sarai?”
“I named Jacob so I am leaving the naming of our daughter to you. It’s only fair. Besides, you have a great taste in names.”
“So I can name her anything?”
Laurie rolled her eyes, “I want veto powers.”
Andy smirked, “Tell you what, I will let you veto three names. After you use all three, I get to do what I want.”
“What names?”
Andy scratched his beard, “Kaela Joy, Ailsa Isobel, Rosalind Amelia, Mathilde Rose-“
Laurie held up a finger, “I am going to veto Rosalind Amelia.”
Andy nodded, “I think that’s an acceptable veto. I truly love Daisy for a first name.”
“I can work with Daisy. It’s a sweet name.”
Andy drank from his water glass, “What about Daisy Maeve? I wanted to go with a little bit of an Irish flair.”
His wife shook her head, “I’m going to use my second veto on Maeve. I’m not a huge fan of it. I like other Irish names but not that one.”
Andy sniffed, “Okay, how about Daisy Caoimhe Barber?”
“Write out that middle name for me?”
Andy picked up the pen that Laurie had slid to him with a piece of paper. Jotting down the name, he pushed the paper back to her across the table and Laurie’s mouth curved into a smile, “Oh, that’s so lovely. I could live with Daisy Caoimhe.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“That’s great but that’s not the name I picked.”
“Still playing with me, huh?”
“Yep.”
“What name did you pick, Andy?”
The husband responded, “Now, now. That would be telling.”
Laurie pouted, “Please tell me what you are planning on naming our daughter.”
Her spouse raised his hands in submission, “Okay, okay. I decided on—”
A doorbell ring interrupted him and Andy groaned, “We will finish this discussion in a minute. That may be Vince from next door. He said he needed to borrow the weed eater for his yard. His died earlier today.”
Barber stepped to the front door and opened it. A man in a hoodie and a bandana mask stood before him. Andy took a step back as the person in front of him snarled, “You Andy Barber?”
Andy tried to shut the door but was stopped, “Listen, I don’t know—”
The man interrupted him, “You Andy Barber?”
“Yes, what do you want?”
The shadowed figure didn’t respond. Instead, he pulled a handgun from the back of his pants and, aiming it at Andy’s chest, pulled the trigger.
Laurie heard the bang and jumped from her chair as quickly as her body would allow, “Andy!”
Turning the corner, she screamed and fell to her knees. There, lying in a pool of blood, was Andy. A hole was torn through the base of his chest and he was drowning on his own blood as his lungs flooded with it. “ANDY!”
Gently, she pulled him into her lap, crying out his name. Weakly, he brushed a tear from her cheek and choked out a name, “Kathryn.”
Laurie hushed him and pulled out her phone, dialing 911. A voice spoke on the other end of the line, “911, what’s your emergency?”
Laurie was panicked and crying, “My husband just got shot. Please, oh god, please send help. No, Andy. Please keep your eyes open. Send help. Oh, god.”
“Ma’am try to calm down and,” the dispatcher paused, “talk to me. What’s your location?”
An inconsolable Laurie cried out, “Oh, god, no, Andy. Don’t go to sleep. I need help. I’m eight months pregnant and I don’t know what to do.. Please, I need help.”
The dispatcher tried again, “Ma’am I need you to calm down. Where are you?”
“I live at 17 Woodard Drive, Newton. Please come help. He’s dying. There’s blood everywhere. No, Andy, no. Look at me. Please, look at me. A-A-Andy. Oh god.”
Suddenly there came a heart-wrenching cry and the dispatcher’s heart sank. The line went dead. With a heavy heart, the dispatcher sent out a call, “I need officers at 17 Woodard drive. Male shooting victim. Age indeterminate. There is a pregnant woman at the residence. Unknown if the shooter is still at the location.”
She tried to reconnect with Laurie but couldn’t get through. After numerous failed attempts to redial the caller, the dispatcher got back on with the responding officers, “We need multiple units at 17 Woodard Drive in Newton. Possible double homicide.”
All she could do now was wait for and update.
Unit forty-seven came through, Detective Perkins, “Dispatch, can you confirm that you said 17 Woodard Drive?”
“Yes.”
Perkins came back through, “Shit. That’s Andy and Laurie Barber’s new home.”
Her heart dropped into her stomach. She kept her voice even, “God help them.”
Detective Perkins pulled his cruiser onto the quiet street, praying to anyone listening that the scene was not as bad as he feared it would be. Seeing the front door open, Perkins motioned to the officers flanking him as the trio ascended the stairs. His heart stopped and the world blurred. Lying in the entry way was Andy Barber. His wife was lying on top of him, sobs wracking her body and she was covered in blood from head to toe. The distraught woman looked up at the police as if begging them to help. The first officer pulled her off the floor and ushered her carefully to the front porch.
EMTs approached and the female paramedic wrapped a blanket around Laurie’s shoulders, “Ma’am where are you hurt?”
Laurie shook her head, “No. He’s dead. He’s dead. He’s dead. What am I going to do?”
The paramedic calmly turned the woman’s face back to her gaze, “The dispatcher said you are pregnant. How far are you? Do you have any injuries?”
Laurie began to cry, “Eight months. Oh god, what am I going to do?”
“Ma’am, I’m concerned you might be hurt. Can you tell me if you are injured?”
“No. I’m not hurt, not injured. The blood. Oh god, the blood, the blood.”
She began rocking back and forth, “Andy’s blood. Andy’s blood. Andy? Is Andy dead? Where’s Andy? Please help Andy.”
“Another EMT is taking care of him. I need you to listen to me though. I need you to calm down. Take some deep breaths. There we go. Breathe in, breath out. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. Okay,” she turned to Perkins, “I think she’s ready to talk.”
Detective Perkins knelt down in front of Laurie, “Laurie, I need you to focus and tell me what happened.”
Laurie took a ragged breath and her eyebrows furrowed, “Andy and I were sitting at the table, talking  about names for our baby and eating dinner when the doorbell rang. Andy had talked to our neighbor Vince about him borrowing a tool because his was dead. It was a weed eater. A-Andy thought it might be Vince so he opened the door. A couple of things were said but I couldn’t hear what it was. I was eating when he was shot. I got up and ran as fast as I could to the door but A-Andy… H-he was dying. My h-husband. Is he dead?”
A pair of EMTs  came out of the house carrying a stretcher. Lying on the stretcher was the still, sheet-wrapped body of Andy Barber. His chest no longer rose and fell and Laurie knew.
The sight of her deceased husband prompted a second outburst of tears, moans and cries of agony only a widow could make. Detective Perkins sighed mournfully, “Laurie, I am sorry for your loss. I know this is hard, but can you think of anyone who would want to harm Andy?”
Laurie took a breath again, “We weren’t exactly popular. Plenty of people didn’t like us but not many would act on it except maybe…”
“Who?”
“I know it sounds crazy but I think it was Dan Rifkin. I can’t prove it though.”
Perkins nodded, “We will check it out but in the meantime, do you have somewhere you could stay?”
~~~
Loud cries filled the room as the brown haired woman in the bed gave birth. A nurse ran a cool rag across her forehead as another contraction hit making the woman whimper. The nurse cooed, “There, there. Everything will be alright. It’s almost over.”
A stronger contraction grabbed hold and the woman in the bed making her scream, “Oh god! Make it stop!”
The attending physician at the end of the bed replied, “You are doing great Laurie. The baby’s head is crowning and it’s almost out. Just a couple of more pushes.”
Laurie nodded as a powerful on grabbed hold. The doctor encouraged her, “You’re doing great! Push. Push. Push! And rest. Good job. We are almost ready to meet your baby! Her head is nearly out. On the next one, I want you to push as hard as you can, okay?”
Laurie, through rapid breaths, answered, “Okay. AHHH!”
“Push! Push! Push!!! Great job! Baby’s head is out and the rest of the body should follow. One last push in 3...2...1. PUUSSHHH!!!”
Laurie let loose a determined scream as she pushed with all her remaining strength. Silence reigned for a moment as the woman tried to catch her breath. Then she heard it as she fell back into the pillows. The soft whimper of a newborn filled the air as it turned into a full-blown cry.
Laurie’s heart skipped a beat as the doctor held up the newborn and proclaimed, “IT’S A GIRL! Congratulations!”
The doctor clamped the umbilical cord and cut through it severing the connection between mother and daughter. The squalling baby was then wrapped in a blanket and laid onto Laurie’s chest. Tears began to flow down the mother’s face as she kissed her daughter for the first time, “Oh sweetheart. I know. I know.”
Something about the rumble of her mother’s chest and the soft spoken word calmed the newborn infant and she peeped open her eyes trying to find the source of the comfort. This made Laurie cry more, “Hi there. Oh my god, you’re so beautiful.”
Laurie winced as a bit of pain shot through her, “Why am I hurting still?”
The doctor nodded, “Your placenta is passing through and I am stitching up a small tear in your perineum. Little lady did quite a number on you.”
A nurse leaned over the woman in the bed, “We’re going to get you cleaned up and take baby to make sure everything is good with her then we will bring her back to you. Okay? We also need to make sure you get some rest. That labor may have only lasted six hours but it was an especially hard one for you and for baby.”
Laurie nodded, surrendering her child, “Can I get her back for nursing soon? I think she may be hungry.”
Her doctor smiled, “She looked like she was giving you some cues for feeding so let us clean her off then you may have her back for her first feeding.”
They took the baby to another room but Laurie didn’t hear because she was already asleep.
About ten minutes later, a soft jostling woke the mother and she looked up to find a different nurse holding her baby whose face was nearly beet red from crying, “Someone wants her mommy. if you need any help from the lactation specialist on site, let us know.”
Laurie nodded as she shifted her hospital gown to nurse the baby.
The baby had just finished eating when there came a gentle knock on the door. Laurie shifted her clothes back into place and put the baby on her shoulder to burp, “Come in.”
Pam and Liz stepped through the door and Pam was fist time speak, “We just wanted to come check on you. The nurse down at reception said you’d been moved to a room. How are you feeling?”
Laurie sighed, “Honestly, I am a bit overwhelmed. The labor wasn’t long but it was extremely painful. I’m just glad it’s over.”
A small noise came from the baby and Laurie pulled her down from the shoulder she’d been resting against. Making sure the little one was resting comfortably in her arms, Laurie glanced up, “This doesn’t feel real. If I’m being honest, I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know how to be a single mother. I’ve always had the father around but now...”
Tears pricked her eyes as she thought of her husband lying six feet under the cold ground instead of here where he should be. Liz crossed the room and she spoke, “Oh, Laurie. You know we are here if you need anything.”
Laurie accepted the hug and Liz gazed down with kind eyes, “It’s a girl, right?”
Laurie nodded and Paula came around to the other side of the bed, “She’s beautiful. What are you going to name her?”
Laurie took a ragged breath, “Her father wanted to name her Kathryn Rose but her name is Andi. Andi Kathryn Barber.”
The other two women fussed and cooed over the child and her mother until it was time for them to leave.
All the while, baby Andi lay sleeping.
THE NANNY: CHAPTER 8
Pairing: Andy Barber x Annie Johnson (OFC)
Summary: Working and single parenting is not easy. Andy needs to find a nanny for his son Jacob. Annie, an education degree student at Lasell University, comes to their lives just in time for the big changes in Andy’s life.
Warnings: cursing, cheating, violence
A/N: I did my research, so you can know the distances. Lasell University is in Auburndale that is 5 min away from Newton and 15 min away from Boston, both driving nonstop and without traffic. Walking from Auburndale to Newton will be 48 minutes…or that’s what google said hahahaha. Also, this chapter has violence that could be triggering for some people. Enjoy!
It was almost summer break. It was a typical Thursday afternoon. The weather outside was warm and sunny. Jake and Annie were in the backyard playing to be the Avengers, she was always the bad guy and Jake loved to save the world as Captain America. It was just 5:30 when the front door opened, Andy could hear Jake’s laugh on the back yard. He walked to the back door and saw Jake and Annie jumping on the trampoline. Andy leaned against the door frame watching them play, Annie was wearing a beautiful pink sundress and once in a while she let herself fall for Jake to catch her. She grabbed Jake by his ribs and tickle him, making Jake kicked and squawked. Annie looked up and saw Andy staring at them.
“You’re early.” Annie mentioned. She and Jake climbed down the trampoline.
“We didn’t have much to do at the office, they send me home. You can leave if you want, or you can stay and have ice cream with us.”
“Yeah! Ice cream!” Jake run to his dad.
“Thanks,” she put her sandals on, “but I could use the time to check some things for my exams next week.”
“Are you sure? Is Chocolate ice cream?” Andy said while they got in the house.
“If you give Jake that flavor now,” She whispered in his ear sending him shivers down his spine, “you won’t be able to put him to bed later tonight.”
“I think I can handle him.”
“And is cute that you think you can Mr. Barber.” She winked at him.
Annie grabbed her bag, got in the car and headed to the library. She was on her way to the campus, when she changed her mind. Daniel has been telling her nonstop they didn’t spend time together lately, that he missed her and since she was free for now, decided to surprise him.
She parked her car and climbed the stairs of her building. She carefully opened the door, making sure not to make noise to surprise his boyfriend. As she walked to the bedroom she listened soft moaning, panthing and grunting, the closer she got the stronger they became.  The door of the bedroom was opened and there it was Daniel on top of a blonde girl trusting hard into her; Annie froze, watching how his boyfriend was fucking another girl in the bed they shared.
“Are… you sure…no one… will… bother us?” the blonde girl asked him with each trust.
“Mmhm… my roommate is not here till 7:30…”
“YOU ARE A FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!!”
Annie screamed at the couple, both Daniel and the girl jumped off the bed.
“Babe! Is not what you think!”
“Babe?!” the girl said looking at Daniel.
Daniel stand covering his erection with the pillow walking to her trying to hold her.
“LEAVE ME ALONE! I HATE YOU!”
She turned around to leave the apartment but Daniel followed her.
“Babe, please! Don’t leave! Let me explain! I love you! You are my girl…”
“NO! I’M NOT!” she turned to see him, “APPARENTLY I’M JUST YOUR ROOMATE! I WANTED TO SURPRISE YOU! AND YOU….”
She didn’t finish the sentence, lifted her hand and slapped him hard on the face, leaving a mark on his check. Daniel stood there looking at her with an angry expression and said nothing, Annie turned around, took her bag and keys, and left the building. It wasn’t until she was in her car she noticed she was crying, she didn’t know if she was sad or angry, maybe both, the only thing she knew was she needed to be far away from there. Annie started the engine of her car and drove until she was outside his brother’s house in Boston. As soon as the door open and saw her brother she broke down.
“I thought he loved me… I thought he was the one!”
“Shhh, breath. He is an asshole honey, he doesn’t deserve you.” his brother told her while rubbing her back.
“He said I was just his roommate!” Annie kept sobbing.
“Don’t yell, you’re gonna wake Denisse up. You are welcome to stay you know that.”
“I can’t I have school tomorrow and the exams are next week.”
“And where are you gonna stay?”
After Annie left his brother’s house, she went straight to Sharon’s apartment, she told her what happened and Sharon told her she could stay there until she found a new place to live. Since Sharon already had a roommate, Annie had to sleep on the couch, and she wasn’t going to complain about it. The next day Mark found out what happened and he was fuming; he never liked Daniel, he thought he was a controller and in general a jerk, and once he heard what he did to his friend he hated him even more. Later that Friday, Sharon and Mark went to her house to pick some things for her, some books, her iPad, her computer and some clothing.
“Where is she?!” Daniel asked them as soon as they were inside the apartment.
They ignored him, took a bag and threw her stuff in it.
“I’m fucking talking to you!” Daniel yelled, “Tell me where the fuck my girlfriend is?!”
“Your girlfriend?? Mark stood in front of him, “After what you did to her, she is not your girlfriend anymore.”
“I need to talk to her, I have to explain”
“Explain what?!” Sharon snapped, “How you cheated on her? Cuz she already saw it! There is no need to explain that!
“You’re an asshole and you’re always will be, I’m glad she notice in time what kind of man you truly are.” Both Sharon and Mark headed to the door, “oh! And she said you have to stop calling her.”
Annie spend the entire weekend crying, every time she thought about Daniel she could only see the image of him on top of that girl, and we can add the fact that she was also stressed because of her finals so she was barely sleeping. She looked like a zombie, and felt gloomy but she had to put on a smile for Jake while taking care of him, it wasn’t the kid’s fault her life was falling apart, so she acted like everything was ok.
It was a Wednesday, Annie and Jake where in his room playing with some of his hot wheels, when Jake stood up and ran to the bathroom. She was alone and all of the sudden everything came back to her, Daniel, the exams, the lack of sleep. Annie started sobbing harder and harder, she could barely breathe; when Jake came back she found Annie covering her face, shaking and crying uncontrollably.
“Annie?” She looked at Jake, her face wet because of her tears. “no… no cry” Jake hugged her and patted her in the back.
“I’m sorry sweetie… I’m…”
“No cry” he hugged her thither.
Little by little Annie calmed down, she took a deep breath and saw Jake, who was worried and teary.
“I’m so sorry Jake”
“Why you cry?”
“Cuz I’m sad and tired… and...”
“Not be sad,” Jake walked to his bed and picked up his teddy bear, “here, he take care of you.”
“Thank you” Annie laughed.
“Come” Jake took her hand and made her stand. They walked to the bed and Jake patted his mattress, “you here”
“Jake I don’t fit in your bed”
“Yes, you are”
Annie shook her head and laid on Jake’s bed holding the teddy bear. She made herself comfortable laying on her side in fetal position, otherwise she wouldn’t fit on the bed. Jake went to his small bookcase and grabbed a book.
“I read story, and you slepf.”
“You don’t know how to read”
“Yes, I am, I’m big boy!”
“hahahaha alright, read to me.”
The book didn’t even have words, there were just images but Jake did his best to tell a story for her to sleep.
“Onces upon da times, was a princess named Annie…” Annie closed her eyes focusing on Jake’s voice.
Once Jake finished “reading” his story, he looked down and saw his nanny was sleeping peacefully, he took his blue blanket, put it over her shoulders, and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He stood up, grabbed some toys and went downstairs to play.
Around 7:30 Andy arrived, the house was complete silent, the lights were off and there was no smell of food around.
“Jake?” Andy walked to the kitchen “Annie?”
Jake came running touching his lips with his small finger.
“Hi buddy, what are you doing?”
“shhhh, I playing da shhh game.” He whispered.
“Really? Why?”
“Annie is sleeping”
“What?!”
“shhhhh!” Jake said with no patience.
“Alright shhhh, where is she?”
Jake walked to the stairs and pointed up, Andy hold Jake on his arms and went upstairs, Jake’s door was slightly opened.
“Annie cry, daddy” Andy looked at his son confused.
“Do you know why?”
“Sad,” Jake thought a little bit more, “stress?” he shrugged
“Ok, let’s try not to make noise ok?” Jake nodded and put his kid on the floor.
“Go to my room Jake” The kid ran to the other bedroom.
Andy walked in the bedroom, and sat on the little space there was on the bed, he could see the puffiness in her eyes but in general she seemed relaxed. He knew she was taking her finals so maybe she was just having a tough week. Andy touched her cheek with the back of his fingers and she smiled on her sleep, which made him smiled as well.
“Annie?” Andy kept stroking her cheek, “Annie, honey, wake up.”
Her eyes fluttered open, Andy was a blurry image, she closed her eyes again and heard Andy laughed a little. This time she opened her eyes and saw Andy clearly.
“Oh my god!” She stood up quickly. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry!”
“Hey, it’s ok” Andy said with amusement once he saw the mark of the pillow on her cheek.
“What time is it?
“Ammm,” Andy looked at his watch “It’s 7:35”
“I didn’t make you dinner,” She was freaking out. Never, in all of her time of being a babysitter, she had fallen asleep while working.
“Don’t worry about it” Andy stood up “Did you sleep well?”
Annie turned around and headed to the stairs, she almost tripped and fall if it wasn’t because Andy grabbed her by the arm, and pulled her against his chest.
“Alright stop!” their faces were closed, “Calm down, so you fell asleep, is not a big deal.”
“I’m sorry” her eyes became watery, “I’m truly sorry” she started sobbing and Andy wrapped his arms around her, and she buried her face on his chest, she could smell his cologne, and he could felt how tense she was.
“Wanna tell me what’s wrong?” she shook her head, “Are you stressed?” Annie nodded, “Why?”
“I don’t wanna lose my scholarship” she lift her head, “and I feel I did terrible on my exams.”
She wasn’t lying, but she didn’t tell him about everything she was going through.
“I’m sure you did well, you are very smart,” Andy rubbed her back, “Don’t worry about dinner.”
“How can I not be worried?!!” she let go of his embrace, “You pay me for it! And I fell asleep while I was supposed to be taking care of Jake!”
“Well, we can always have pizza or Chinese” Andy said putting his hands on his pockets.
“Why are you not angry?!” Annie said annoyed.
“Cuz you are upset,” Andy grabbed her chin up, her brown honey eyes were red “and last time you were upset and I was angry I fired you remember?”
Annie nodded and looked at her feet, “So,” Andy continued, “Since I really don’t want to fire you; I need you to go home and rest. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
He gave her a peck on the cheek and walked out of Jake’s room leaving Annie alone. She touched her cheek, a faded smiled appeared on her lips, took a deep breath and left for the night.
Andy Barber.
Pairing: Chris Evans x female reader.
Word count: 563 words.
Summary: Chris gets a little jealous of Andy.
Tumblr media
It had been a long day at work attending client after client in your clinic, you loved your job of course but you were so happy being at home now just chilling and watching TV waiting for Chris to come home.
You were going through the channels with nothing interesting to watch, nothing new, everything was repeated. And it has passed time since you watched Defending Jacob so, why not?
So you excited put on the chapter, you loved the series, not just because Chris was on it but because it was actually a good series, you even begged to him for a second season but he would just cackled and said it wasn't up to him.
You were watching the chapter, enjoying every second of it until he appeared. You were just starstruck he looked so good, your man Andrew Stephen Barber.
A lot of people obviously would say that is the same person 'cause Chris played him but no, not for you, sometimes they could be a totally different person.
You were so into it you didn't realize when Chris arrived.
"Babe?" he said closing the door and walking to the living room.
"Babe? What are you watch- Oh no, not again baby girl." he closed his eyes while smiling.
"Hey honey, wanna watch yourself again for the 100th time?" you said giving him a little laughter.
"Why are you watching this again?" he said sitting on the couch.
"There was nothing interesting on the TV so I thought why not?" you said shrugging.
"Yeah sure, that's the only reason." he emphasized and laughed.
"Well, maybe not the only reason but..."
"But?" he asks arching a brow.
"Oh come on, how can you not want to see that face?" you pointed to the screen while Andy was appearing.
"You see it everyday, duh."
"I know but Andy hits different." you said almost whispering the last thing.
"Excuse me?" he said playing the offended.
"Babe," you laughed "I love you, but God, just look at him," you turned to the TV "He's breathtaking." you said sighing.
Whilst you were watching the screen Chris was looking at you with so much love, admiration and adoration he was completely into you, you had him wrapped around your finger and you didn't even know it. But sometimes he liked to play the offended so he could receive more love.
You turned to him and realize he was looking at you.
"What?" you said giggling.
"Nothing." he said kissing your cheek. "So, you're really into him, aren't ya?"
"You just- you don't understand what I feel for him, he's so... Magnificent. I would DIE for Andy Barber."
"Hi, nice to meet you, I'm your boyfriend." he said shaking your hand.
You chuckled hard. You loved your man.
"Okay, sweetie yes I would die for Andy but I would live for you, and oh boy that's even harder if you think well about it." you said while sitting on his lap and placing your hands on each side of his face.
"Yeah, you're right." he said rubbing your hips.
"Of course I am. That's why I say he's hot."
He puffed.
"Because it's you who played him, hottie." you giggled stroking his nose with yours.
"I love you." he said looking directly into your eyes.
"I love you too, honey." you said and gave him a kiss.
jacob barber cuddling headcannons
Tumblr media
ok so jacob doesn’t seem soft what so ever, whenever his parents touch him he basically irks
the literal ONLY person he let’s touch him is you
he pretends to be annoyed, like rolling his eyes when you hug him or reach out and messy with his hair
but when you guys CUDDLE-
he turns into a freaking baby.
not LITERALLY, but he loves to cuddle
and he HATES to admit it
he loves laying on top of you and putting his head on your stomach
he falls asleep when you play with his hair when he’s laying on you
the boy stays up ALL night on youtube so he naps quiet often
and mrs barber will call you down for dinner and you have to wake him up and AHH his sleepy voice-
“huh? baby stop i’m sleeping”
“five more minutes you’re so warmm”
“i’ll only get up if i get a kiss”
he is ADORABLE!!!
but like the minute he actually wakes up he is back to pretending to hate being touched bahabdja
and when you snuggle him he DIES
he thinks you look so cute when you nap
when you put your head on his chest you can hear his heart beat go like 90mph he gets flustered
when he’s sire you’re sleeping, he cranes his neck to look down at you and he moves the hair out of your face and strokes your head
he will give you little kisses all over your forehead and rub your forearm
you’ll like stir awake and he will cease ALL action
“jakie dont stopp”
“m’sorry love”
and i’ll continue, and whisper sweet little things into your ear about how cute you looked sleeping
when he’s sad he just wants you two to hold each other
he likes being level with your face so he can kiss it as much as possible
this usually happens after a bad day or school or just a day where he feels off
he puts one arm around your
waste and the other under the pillow that’s under your head
sometimes he tears up a little bit
“baby please don’t cry”
“i’m so lucky to have you here”
he really did feel lucky, the hard days felt so much easier knowing he could just lay with you in peace
