Novel nonsense ahead:

Ruth, my steadfast, no nonsense lesbean shepherdess “really only cares for her sheep and her family” discovers a baby when her sister’s out of town. Winston, the farm hand and as good as her brother, constantly hovering over her and the baby:

Cordelia, the smol sort of lady doctor who Ruth eventually falls in love with (with the help of said baby):

(It’s a joke, Ruth does bond with the baby, but it’ll be fun on her journey of “Well, Nell isn’t here so I should take care of the baby until she can take over” to “No, mine!” when Nell comes back from a month away)

Book edits are almost done! Hopefully I can start the new draft before school starts. No nanowrimo for me this year with grad school, but I’m hoping to carve out some time once I have a better idea of my schedule around a part time job and school 🤞🏻

Me, looking at my novel: Mmmmm Me, watching Liz Capism’s video on the Romance novel industry as a whole (sparked by Bridgerton) + defining Romance novels + her recommendations: MMMMMM Me: Would this work better AS a Romance novel?? I could still do all my research, still include the found family storylines, but keep the focal point on the romance, AND even split off with other novels about the OTHER relationships... would this work??

WIP Wednesdays

Tagged by the amazing @brialavellan to post a bit of my current WIP! I’m currently working on two fics and a novel; one fic has had a chapter published (and I’ve yet to start the next one), and the other I want to keep secret for a little while longer ;) so I’ll post the latest from the novel!

Miss Nell ruffled his hair with a smile, “Come and help me bring out my seedlings, Jack, we can spend the rest of the morning planting them in the garden.”

“I want to help!” Lucy piped up.

“You most certainly can help, Miss Lucy, it’s the most fun part of gardening.”

“How?”

“Today is the day we get the dirtiest,” Miss Nell picked up Mary’s giggling sister. “Where’s the baby?”

“Inside napping, Nellie, want me to bring her out?”

Miss Nell shook her head, “Only if she wakes. Thank you for looking after them all, Win.”

“Of course,” Mr. Winston leaned over and kissed Miss Nell’s cheek. “Miss Mary and I will finish up the wash here and join you in the garden or would you like us to get started on lunch?”

“If Ted and Ruth are coming back by the time you’re done, yes, start on lunch, but otherwise both of you are free to come help out in the garden.”

It didn’t take long for Alice to fall back asleep - tucked up in his arms with her legs tangled in his - and Matthew smiled when he heard her start to snore again; kissing the top of her head (and getting a noseful of her messy bun in the process), he held her close and soon drifted off himself - soothed by the warmth of Alice in his arms, and Bea stretched out along his back.

and because why not, one from my novel:

“Yeah, I can do that,” Mr. Winston smiled. “We can get to know each other while you’re out.”

“No pilfering the biscuit jar while I’m gone,” Miss Nell pointed a finger at him and gave Mr. Winston a knowing look.

“What? Me? Never, Nellie.”

“I know you, Winston Jones, and I’ve counted them,” she called over her shoulder as she ushered Emily towards the stairs to get ready for the day.

“Ah, we can just make some more before she gets back,” he winked at Lucy and Jack - grinning when they laughed and Miss Nell shouted from upstairs.

“I heard that!”

Book 1 draft 2 begins! (And my to do list for today is done with this task started!)

Slowly making my way through this second draft! It’s fun figuring out the characters some more and fixing little nuances now that I 1. Know them better 2. Know the layout of the house (thank you @mamaju1205 for helping me with that this past weekend!) and 3. Have all my little notes of what to remember to put in (like whole ass characters I kept forgetting, new scenes to explore the characters with without a looming deadline of only 30 days lmao, and a better sense of how I can make the town and farm feel real, and not just a setting)
