While unelected, multi-millionaire Rishi Sunak basks in the Californian sun on the terrace of his £5 million penthouse overlooking the Pacific Ocean, these are the headlines in storm swept Britain:

“Flooded homes evacuated, cars submerged and roads underwater as Storm Antoni wreaks havoc."  (Express: 05/08/23)

"Storm Antoni hits UK with near-80mph gusts and train disruption in south-west."  (Guardian: 05/08/23)

I don’t begrudge Sunak his holiday. I am sure he works very hard and needs the break. What I do object to is the fact that despite all the obvious evidence that these kinds of storm are driven by climate change and the rise in CO2 emissions, he is issuing hundreds of new gas and oil extraction licences.

Sunak is the MP for the Yorkshire town of Richmond, and is well aware of the massive damage  that flooding can cause. Only last year this was a BBC News headline:

‘We’re devastated’: Yorkshire town hit by floods for third time in decade." (BBC News: 21/02/22)

And four years ago, when just a humble MP, Rishi Sunak actually did something positive to help his constituents by successfully asking the government for money to help repair flood damage in his constituency.

“MP Rishi Sunak: Flood money 'enormously welcome…"  (BBC News: 10/08/19)

But if a week in politics is a long time then four years is an eternity. Now he is Prime Minister, Mr Sunak seems to have forgotten about the ordinary men and women he is supposed to represent, be they you and me or his immediate constituents. The profit line of the gas and oil corporates is what concerns him now. After all, The oil and gas industry have given  millions of pounds to the Tory coffers.

“ Tories received £1.3m from fossil fuel interests and climate sceptics since 2019."  (Guardian: 25/10.21)

And more recently,

“£3.5m of Tory donations linked to pollution and climate denial, says report. Millions given to party and MPs last year came from entities linked to fossil fuels, high-polluting industries and climate denial.” (Guardian:20/03/23)

Maybe this explains Mr Sunak's actions? But, the problem with accepting money from the Devil is that you are never free from debt, and in this case we will ALL end up paying the price.

The thing about immortality is, even when something is made to last for centuries, those things fall apart. Even granite wears away. Cloth, even charmed cloth made to self-repair and also wear well, will thin and fall apart.

Nothing lasts forever. Even the sun will burn itself up, the stars will fade, and the universe will come to a standstill.

None of that was Wraithvine's concern when, at the end of the battle to save Greenhaven, half his robes had burned to ash and the other half were only held together with hope. Then again, ze'd hardly fared any better. It had been that rough of a fight.
