On Monday evening, MTV handed out its annual Video Music Awards, recognizing Jennifer Lopez for her (HAWT!) body of work in the process, while mourning the late and truly great Aretha Franklin.

The 2018 VMA winners are here, with Camila Cabello winning BIG!
The MTV Video Music Awards AKA The VMAs is never short of a controversial winner – or two! That Taylor Swift/Beyoncé/Kanye West moment, anyone?! But as the great and the sassy of the music industry gathered at New York’s Radio City Music Hall last night, history had already been made.
MTV made headlines last year when it dropped gendered categories, meaning male, female, and nonbinary artists are now all up against each other in the same category.
Because of these changes, Best Female Video and Best Male Video awards are now combined into one category: Artist of the Year. Winning the inaugural award was noneother than Camilla Cabello.
Other big pre-show favourites, including Cardi Band Ariana Grande also didn’t leave empty handed alongside everyone’s favourite actor-come-singer, Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino.

Camila Cabello took home the biggest win of the night, “Video of the Year,” at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. In addition to Jennifer Lopez, and Nicki Minaj who were also VMA winners.
The 2018 Video Music Awards winners were revealed Monday night. And the show was an absolute blast.
Camila Cabello went home with two awards, including the top award for “Video of the Year,” for her “Havana,” video featuring Young Thug.
The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards was hosted live from Radio City Music Hall. This was the very first place the VMAs were held in 1984 and the 12th time the show aired from the New York City, venue.

The 2018 MTV VMAs are some of the most hip-hop heavy in the history of the awards after Cardi B and Beyonce picked up the most nominations for their work on Invasion Of Privacy and Everything Is Love, respectively. It looks like a big year for women as well; Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello, Demi Lovato, and Dua Lipa all appear on the list of nominees alongside regular favorites like Drake, Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran. This year, MTV partnered with Instagram to reveal the nominees on its new platform, IGTV on Monday, July 16, 2018.
The  2018 edition of the MTV Video Music Awards at the Radio City Music Hall on Monday, August 20, 2018.
According to Variety, Cardi B is leading on the nominees’ list with 10 nominations.

Cardi B leads 2018 MTV VMA nominations
The rapper with attitude, Cardi B, has earned 10 MTV Video Music Award nominations. Cardi B has more nominations in this year’s VMAs than any other artist. One of her many hits, “Finesse,” a collaboration with Bruno Mars, is up for video of the year.
She is also nominated for Artist of the Year. Notable contenders to watch out for include Drake and Childish Gambino (each with seven nominations), Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande.
The only other artist with comparable nominations to Cardi B is Beyoncé and Jay-Z who have earned 8 nominations for their collaborative “APES**T” video released as part of their joint album Everything Is Love.
The VMAs will take place in New York City at the Radio City Music Hall on Monday, August 20 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
This is the 12th time the VMAs have been hosted at Radio City, but the very first time MTV has used Instagram to reveal the nominees on IGTV. Fans can vote for their favorite nominee by visiting vma.mtv.com. Who will you vote for?

The long-awaited MTV VMA nominations are officially here!
The prestigious list includes artists we’re all too familiar with, as well as plenty of newcomers – and new rap-queen, Cardi B, is leading the way with a respectable 10 nominations, many of which are for her collaboration with Bruno Mars, Finesse, and we can totally see why.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z aren’t too far behind after dropping their surprise video for new track APES**T, which has received eight nominations. Totally deserved considering they actually took over The Louvre in Paris to film it…
Childish Gambino (or Donald Glover, if you’re a fan of his acting) and Drake both have seven nominations, for This Is America and God’s Plan, respectively. Both total bangers.
MTV made headlines last year when it dropped gendered categories from the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), meaning male, female, and nonbinary artists are now all up against each other in the same category.
Because of these changes, Best Female Video and Best Male Video awards are now combined into one category: Artist of the Year. Video with a message is also a new category that has been introduced this year, for an artist that has used their music to convey morals about current issues or a political statement. The awards will take place on August 21.
