'Reasonable Person': a rant.

#ok im gonna talk about the ceo situation going on #but my voice isn't an important one in this so im banishing it to the tags #so at my job theres a rule #its in the employee training and handbook #its about interpersonal situations and what management can do about them #and its all predicated on what a 'reasonable person' would believe. #like fully. the wording in the training is 'reasonable person'. #what this means is that when a manager picks favorites? impossible to prove. #if two people are having a spat and one is unfairly targeted while the other walks scot-free. it's attributed to 'reasonable person'. #like the one who got the punishment was the unreasonable one because that's what the manager decided. #i am very lucky in that i have people on the management team who are on my side in my transition- even though they dont gender me correctly #if i go to them with concerns they will make sure that i am treated fairly. #this is Not The Case Here. #the 'reasonable person' argument was JUST USED AS A CUDGEL AGAINST PREDSTROGEN #“death threats arent what a 'reasonable person' would make EVER. even IF theyve been pushed to the FUCKING BREAKING POINT.” is what pm says #hes hand-waving the very real issues because she did something he didn't like. he's unfairly targeting her. he's discriminating. #'reasonable person' means goddamned nothing if the guy making that call isn't reasonable. #i quietly do my part. i report content as i see it. glad to see that doesnt fucking matter #i knowwwww theres gotta be good people on staff. but god dammit. god fucking dammit. #... #so whats the plan matthew? #how are you going to stop harrassment? #how are you going to stop rapist pedophiles? #how are you going to make this space safe for transfems? #how are you going to make this space safe for ALL trans people? #how are you going to apologize for your dick-swinging? #fuck. idk. i hope there are consequences. #there wont be.

ok i wanted to write out my thoughts cause its something thats been making me insane but like i think a lot of the reactions to the tumblr verified thing on both sides are like. really overblown and just kind of idk bad? to explain like i think that the post circulating that has screenshots of who has the checkmark where a lot of people in the tags and replies are using it to justify harassment is really uncalled for. I know someone who like has one just because its funny and like $8 or whatever and they have so many people sending them death threats and like calling them selfish/entitled/etc despite the fact that like they're not coming from a place of a lot of money, it was just something they got for themselves as a treat. obviously this doesnt apply to like people who spent hundreds for like fake internet clout but i think that dogpiling and justifying harassment en masse to anyone with the checkmark is like a really dangerous precedent to set. the argument ive mostly seen is if they spent money on the site they arent donating and therefore are bad people and should donate just feels like youre making up a guy to get mad at and using it to justify mass harassment. On the other hand I do think that its good to be critical of supporting a site that has history of racism and bad moderation decisions. I think that it's good to be skeptical of giving money to people who've made bad decisions in the past and that while it would be nice to be able to support tumblr and make sure it stays running etc, this should also be considered in tangent with how their current staff are treating racism, transphobia, etc. The problem is we should be able to be critical of this without using this as moral high ground to harass people who are potentially also coming from a place of low income. I think these ideas need to co-exist and be dialed down like 50%. Tumblr isn't going to die outright if you dont send it $100 and people arent willingly killing people because they got 1 checkmark.

Its really easy to also get emotionally invested in this discussion because a lot of us are suffering at the hands of capitalism and seeing someone able to spend money on something is sparking like the idea of "well that should have gone to me/someone who needs it" which is ykno something that appeals very heavily to emotion.

tldr i think that like harassing people and making huge vitriolic posts abt people with tumblr verified is preformative and reads like "there are starving children in africa" rather than like genuine criticism. it feels reactionary and overblown and is being used to justify harassment. thats just my 2cents tho

“What are you doing?” you asked this because the two men looked to be wrestling in the middle of the floor. But your question was soon answered as you heard Cap cackling under the pile of him and bucky.

“You're never too old! Especially when old captain here says that he can't be tickled by me since the “Syrum made it impossible”.” He said that sarcastically because he was actively proving him wrong. 

“Ok, well you two have fun but im out” you were about to run out of there but you heard cap calling out to you.

“Enough about me! I want to find this so-called death spot” Just as he said that, he scratched at her ribs.

“Oh look you found it! Y/n i'm so going to use this against you the next time you touch my machines.” And with that, Tony left the room. 

Steve and bucky continued until your laughter went silet.

Then Steve gave you a look, and then he grabbed bucky. 

“Get him Y/n!” Steve said, and he didnt have to tell you twice. You immediately dug into his sides.

“Steve, where is his death spot?”

Her name is Isabella, Izzy for short and preferred. Shes in her mid 20s, home cut choppy straight black hair thats a bit past her shoulders with short bangs. Her style id say is a bit casual 2000s goth/emo (big cargo pants + tight black shirt, black choker, fingerless gloves, big work boots). personality wise shes very nervous/paranoid and has pretty rapid mood swings from being antsy to extreme anger. after she gets out of her trap she gains a little more confidence and channels her anger better, but still isnt the best at speaking up or talking without tripping over her words

her backstory is shes still living at home with her abusive dad and is a prop designer for a small theatre company. shes had a long history of abusive partners and hanging out with manipulative “friends” and such, as well as some pretty severe substance issues. she never tried to solve her problems and instead ran away from everything but still came back to the same bad situations. after driving off crying upset and angry and inebriated after a fight with her dad, she ends up running over (basically bisecting) a pedestrian that ended up being some doctor that was supposed to perform an organ transplant thatd save someones life, leading to two deaths total. she gets away with it in court through sleazy lawyers arguing things like the pedestrian wasnt on a crosswalk and etc.

Amanda is the one that chooses her for one of Kramers traps. i think amanda has a bit of a soft side for her considering her circumstances, but kramer is still the one who makes the trap. the best way i can describe it is its like a giant clock with a vertical pole in the middle. Izzy is attached to the pole by her ankles being chained, her neck being chained, and a long rebar wrapped once around her torso. the rebar extends out to a gear wheel at the edge of the clock, so when the gear wheel starts to move, the rebar begins to wrap around the center (aka where Izzy is trapped). In front of her hanging from the ceiling is the jigsaw tape and a tire iron. extended out of her reach and a bit lower hanging from the ceiling is an off switch. the switch is only reachable by leg length. to escape her trap, she has to break her foot out of the chains by bashing it with the tire iron, and slamming it against the off button. during her trial after she debates in throwing the tire iron at the switch, but realizes if she misses she’ll have no backup plan. she begins to bash her foot, but the tire iron slips from her hands anyways. at this point, she has about a minute left before the rebar wraps tight enough around her to break her ribs and crush her insides. frustrated and screaming that she was going to do it and that she doesnt want to die, she twists and snaps her already damaged ankle out of the chains, and flings her leg forwards, disarming the trap. she makes it out with one severly fucked up foot and a couple of broken ribs. shes wheelchair bound for a bit after and eventually switches to a cane

shes very eagerly takes on the role of John’s apprentice as she sees him not killing her as one of the first kindnesses in her life, and she immediately wants to put her dad in a trap. her traps are decently theatrical due to her prop making skills with a rube Goldberg style premise to them, but they arent always the most stable (at least once or twice has one broken/a victim has broken it)

like i said earlier she gets along with Amanda pretty well. they dont see each other as a threat to John’s legacy since Izzy is just fine with being a follower with no want to actually become Jigsaw, and Amanda is empathetic towards her problems and the fact that shes younger

her and hoffman do NOT get along. hoffman already disliked her based on the fact that amanda chose her, and isnt a fan of her erratic behavior which he considers a liability. she hates him on instinct and doesnt believe he understands kramers ideals, and despises him even more after learning about him switching amandas letter post johns death. he definitely tries to kill her and vice versa after kramer dies

her and john get along great. he has empathy for her being younger and is proud of how she escaped her trap + believes she understands his ideals. its very saw x kramer and amanda relationship but shes a little more obsessive over him and sees him as a mentor figure

her and gordon end up teaming up after kramers death and get along decent. she believes he understands john’s ideals and feels fine following him, theyre both in the fucked up foot club, and both want hoffman dead. shes sees him sort of as a fatherly figure and he sees her kind of as a daughter figure but their work is too fucked up to fully establish that

since im an adam is alive truther and he also works for gordon, i think Izzy and him get along fine as well. they definitely have nasty t4t sex

not that it's a BAD thing. he wants to make people happy, and it makes him happy in turn when theyre cheering for him! thats fine! HOWEVER. the impression I've gotten so far is that yuya gets upset when his opponent is the one being cheered for (a good example was the michio duel and that annoying trivia kid duel. he didnt seem real happy when the audience was rooting for them and not him!) as opposed to…I cant believe I'm comparing him to dennis but. the dennis v gon duel was a great example of what I think a more genuine entertainment duel should be…they were playing the roles of hero v villain, and dennis was great at improv there, quickly turning into the villain when Straight Man to his Comedy Guy routine Gon accused him of being the Real Villain in that situation. like he ROLLED with it and was perfectly fine with gon winning bc it suited their lil story and the audience loved it! I think entertainment dueling SHOULD be like that, like improv and acting bc you're entertaining ppl. ur a performer. u need to go w the flow more.

(Okay, this might not have been the best duel to show it off bc 1. hes dueling JACK of all ppl who declared hes gonna WIN and. he Will. 2. this is a situation where hes trying to showcase the strength of the lancers, so it wouldnt do to THROW the duel. but he couldve played into jacks dramatics a bit, made himself out to be more of a dramatic underdog, or a potential upstarter…for wanting to be an ENTERTAINER I want to see yuya channel his dramatics a LOT more than he does. esp w jack of all ppl!) to me it feels like yuya also ties a LOT of his self worth to how other ppl perceive his role in duels too which is Unhealthy (and again. is an extension of the 'smile when u want to cry' stuff imo, also pretty unhealthy) I…dont know if any of this is That Deep or theyre just trying to make jack seem like an asshole. Rain Code (Ch.0 Beginning) - *thought and speculation*

SPOILERS (chapter 0..? I'm watching gameplay, planning on buying it myself but the facecam is covering the save so I'm assuming its chapter 0) like before they go to the ..labyrinth i mean so. the premise is interesting. I'm going to assume you are people who have seen rain code gameplay, its story and what its about. or at least the (assumedly) first part if its actually mentioned later on then, ok, but something i realized while Yuma was being accused by the police peacekeeper guy it couldnt have been him. if the drinks were drugged, then theres irrefutable proof that it couldnt have been. Because REMEMBER there's the video of him DRINKING the coffee from the guys (the guy that worked with the phone, and had that red thingy, and didnt wear the same uniforms as the others. Eraser? last name i mean. i think.) thought something, like thoughtology or.. thoughtography...??? i cant remember, that was on his phone. we KNOW its there because we saw it when we checked his belongings in hopes that he mightve added a video to tell us what happened to them, so we know its still there, and we know it lasts for 48 hours unless like.. uploaded to a thingy to be used for evidence. ITS STILL THERE. and there WAS a mention that the coffee was drugged too (i assume the police guys drunk different drinks to test them all, and see? drop.) so logically yuma has an alibi because theres video evidence that he drunk the drink. now what happened after, zero clue

maybe its just because im not bothered by the death (honestly, by the second body i just kinda knew that 'yeah. everyone dead, arent they?') and logically yuma did have amnesia, got the shock of his life by shinigami, faced the trauma of technically facing his very first dead body while his companion is joking and making light of it which probably deeply disturbs him. all of those potential friends, even if some mightve been rude completely gone, and then faced with the threat that he'd be accused can make you panic. a lot. and details will slip you. i understand that. istg though if those police guys dont look at the phone and SEE that evidence and drop him down from 'ITS HIM' to 'it could be him but theres a chance it actually isnt' then im gonna scream at their incompetence. ..although the train is like a prison basically while its moving. you cant get on, you cant get off until it stops. so unless the culprit is still there (which makes no sense..) then yuma would be the only suspect. agHHhhh.

On a different fandom fury, why is it always "oh Elia/Ashara/whoever would be okay with cheating and humiliation because DORNISH and Rhaegar crowning Lyanna wouldn't have been a big deal if everyone else hadn't been prudes" when Catelyn canonically says that she would have been able to roll with Ned having lovers as long as he still treated her with love and respect and had any bastards fostered somewhere and given money and some kind of decent career path as would be right and honorable as long as he didn't insist on raising those children at home. We have canon proof that Catelyn would be fine with her husband, (and a husband that she's very much in love with!) having private, discrete affairs and possibly children, but Ashara is The Cool Girl who would happily raise Jon, and Elia is totally chill with being publicly humiliated for a 14y/o who is also a potential political threat to her children. It's possible Elia might be okay with Rhaegar quietly having a relationship with a woman that posed no threat to Elia or her children, but not certain, and its never portrayed that way in fic.

Because of three reasons

Racism. GRRM plays into the exotic/erotic trope with Dorne. We see Arianne as a seductress, nipple first through Arys' eyes and we are constantly told about how Dornish people are licentious without the author doing nearly enough legwork to deconstruct this harmful trope. Idc if he says outside of canon that Dornish morality towards sex is misrepresented. He doesnt do enough in the actual books to dispel this myth (and we know he can given how he humanized the free folk). So you end up with fandom takes like "all dornish people are horny and polygamous and Elia was actually looking forward to her Rhaegar and Lyanna being the hottest new throuple in westeros".

2. People's inability to have a female character who is supposed to be a 'good person' go even slightly against a 'good male character'. Elia/Ashara are "good" women unlike evil bad Catelyn who doesnt like her husband humiliating her. Therefore Elia and Ashara who were sexy dornish people and good women unlike Catelyn would have been ok with raising their husbands illegitimate kids!

3. People not considering the context of the setting. Illegitimate children arent only personally humiliating for women theyre possibly a threat to any legitimate children she may have. Now if Ned had done the normal thing and had Jon fosterted elsewhere i doubt Catelyn would have cared (AS SHE STATES IN THE TEXT), but Ned's insistence on Jon staying at Winterfell with him, combined with Ned's secrecy over his mother probably had Catelyn worrying. Inheritence laws arent set in stone around Westeros (as we see in House of the Dragon, and in the succession crisis after Cregan Stark's death) and if Ned openly prefers his illegitimate son to his legitimate children shes got a big problem. It probably moved from a more political embarassment/worry for Catelyn to personal hurt as she fell in love with Ned which is why when we see her in the series the concerns seem to have mixed together.

I'll note the context is totally different around the illegitimate children women have. Try to argue that Catelyn should have been able to have an illegitimate child and force Ned into staying in the same house as them and people would be shitting and crying and throwing up and foaming at the mouth.

tl;dr misogyny - women dont get to care that their husbands have illegitimate children becuase only men can do that. Also racism - brown people are sexually deviant temptors there for our amusement.

oh ALSO if youre one of those freaks who act like 14th century clergymen and actually try to argue that children born out of wedlock are inherently bad get the hell off my post

The girl looks up at her group leader. She knew she should have not tried to light some files on fire just for those two older boys. They arent gettin off on the thought of a grimy little kid! Bleh! "You goddamn-!" They grab her hair and pull it. "I just fucking told you not to push me too far!" They stop moving down the stairs to stand in front of her. "The furnace could easily burn you to a clean crisp." They'd never actually kill her, they dont have that authority. But, hey! Threats are /very/ fun! She giggles, “Kill me you fucking pussy!” She said while trying to push away. "There's things worse than death!" They tug her down by her hair and arm, now at the last few steps until the door to the furnace room. The air wavers with the heat. The door will be hot enough for her to learn the lesson. They fight down a grin at the thought of smashing her face against the scalding metal and banging it against the door again and again.“Wonder why your stuck with my group, your to much of a pussy to even kill a teenage girl!” She’s shaking with fear. “That’s probably why you’ll never actually be a leader!” She yells in his face. Keeping eye contact, they take her hand and press it again the door. Even just holding it, they can feel the heat, hear the sizzle of flesh against metal. They carry on talking. "They're smiling. Are you familiar with that polish prolife activist suzanna Wiewiórka? She was awarded by the government some time back for preventing a girl from terminating her pregnancy but went about it by harassing her and informing her parents & bf. She holds pretty extremist views like saying to fight for the unborn, she'd push for banning sex ed, murdering doctors and blowing up buildings of clinics.. scary thing is that I know people like her who are in the pro life movement but arent in it for good reasons. I see them as violent bullies who get off on harassing others with some moral superiority and threats of violence but its "ok" because they're fighting for a good cause. Heck, I know men and have heard men only fight for this movement to "punish whores" l???? How does that help babies??? Idk... for me, it's always been about getting to the root cause of why women and young girls who are scared seek abortion. Then tackling those issues. Make abortion be so rare it only happens in extreme cases, you know? Because for other cases, women are taken care of. And when women are cared for, babies survive and flourish. Everyone seems so...extreme lately idk how to put it.
