putting my prediction on record now that the coming decade is going to see the rise of viral-marketed fancy at-home water filtration systems, driving and driven by a drastic reduction in the quality of U.S. tap water (given that we are in a 'replacement era' where our current infrastructure is reaching the end of its lifespan--but isn't being replaced). also guessing that by the 2030s access to drinkable tap water will be a mainstream class issue, with low-income & unstably housed people increasingly forced to rely on expensive bottled water when they can't afford the up-front cost of at-home filtration--and with this being portrayed in media as a "moral failing" and short-sighted "choice," rather than a basic failure of our political & economic systems. really hope i'm just being alarmist, but plenty of this already happens in other countries, and the U.S. is in a state of decline, so. here's praying this post ages into irrelevance. timestamped April 2023

Okay SO I've had these Patchilles OC's for like 3-ish years now and I've never shared them on here before bc they mean so much to me the idea of putting them out here seemed super scary BUT here are two of my Patchilles kids Maximus and Hyacinth 👉🏼👈🏼 (Yes that name is intentional and supposed to be ironic lmao)

More about them + the lore under the cut!

Basically, this is canon divergence and the lore is that Pat and Achilles don't go to Troy and instead stay in Phthia after their time on Pelion. Thinking that they no longer have to worry about a prophecy, they end up getting married and starting a family but, unbeknownst to them, the prophecy doesn't exactly go away, it gets passed down to Maximus and becomes it’s own big thing as the war goes on for well over a decade overseas. Thetis is the only one who actually knows about this and she keeps it a secret from Achilles and takes it upon herself to train Maximus and turn him into the next aristos achaion.

I'm actually in the middle of writing this as a series on ao3 (Currently on the 4th work!). If you're interested, you can start with the first fic, New Beginnings, which explains everything a lot more (their engagement, the reason why they stay) OR you can jump right into the story I'm currently working on, The Rest of Our Lives, though you might be a bit confused!

Maximus is by far one of my favorite OC’s but I love developing his siblings as characters too. If you read/have read The Rest of Our Lives, you’ll see that Maximus definitely takes after Achilles like without a doubt and it’s brought up several times but as he grows older, he becomes a well rounded mix of them both and I like to think that Pat’s attributes shine more then though I haven’t written it all out just yet! Maximus is just a fun loving, rambunctious kid who tries his best with the cards he’s dealt, he’s very loving and kind hearted and an overall good kid!

Hyacinth is about four years younger than him and one of my favorites too, especially as he grows into his character. So they do have another sibling but I’ve only just gotten there in the story so I don’t want to spoil anything, but he is a true middle child lol it’s actually an important part of his character that really gets explored later on in the series. He’s also a sweetheart, a little more reserved than Maximus but I wouldn’t call him an introvert, he’s just not as…. Hyperactive as his older brother lmao but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get roped into Maximus’ antics too.

I’ve also written modern au stuff with them (which I haven’t posted anywhere), so like now whenever I imagine any au with Pat and Achilles, it’s hard not to picture these two, especially Maximus, in it too lol

Sorry for rambling so much, this is the first time I’ve actually talked about these two outside of my writing 😅 I hope y'all enjoy them as much as I do! And feel free to ask me about them from time to time if you want :)

#Get this right. 2 pizzaplex employees accidentally get tumblr famous bc someone has been leaving weird graffiti everywhere and #Getting up to other shenanigans and sends asks abt it to this one like urban exploration blog. Who later gets an ask basically like #Hey I work at the plex?? This is some insider info only another employee would know???? #The two anons are constantly back and forth in this persons inbox and are eventually assigned nicknames #‘Pix’ for the mystery vandalism employee because she shows up as nothing but weird pixels and glitches on cameras #The other employee is ‘Cam’ because they have been monitoring all this on the cameras #One day they get each others blogs and keep sending each other death threats and shit jokingly but one day pix warns cam not to go to a #Weird late staff meeting #The next night it is literally just the two of them and they think this is so funny they start a blog trying to uncover why everyone else #Just isn’t coming in. HAD A BREAKTHROUGH

Time loops can be about the limited time in a day. How we spend our days is how we spend our lives, and we have so little time in a day that it can feel like we're trapped in this loop of get up—eat—work—eat—work—eat—sleep where we barely get a few hours of progress on whatever we're trying to accomplish in our lives. And a time loop story is about failing over and over and over to accomplish something in a day—failing to break free of the bonds of how short, how very short a day is, and how due to the nature of time and society and the physical human needs for sleep and food and routine, we just don't have that much time for The Big Things.

And it happens again and it happens again and it happens again and you fall into despair because a day is so short and a day is all you have. you have to learn to make a fundamental change to the universe in a day. and you can't because you're human. and your social network is human. and the despair sets in and you give up on trying. (my favorite time loop stories have a long period of depression in the middle where the MC just... exists over and over for a while).

Like... a time loop story is a function of the universe forcing someone to accept that they can't change the universe in a day. but they have to change the universe in a day because HOW WE SPEND OUR DAYS IS HOW WE SPEND OUR LIVES, okay?? do you get what I'm saying? humans can't change the universe in a day but we HAVE TO because we have NO OTHER UNIT OF TIME TO DO IT IN. we are not superhuman. That's the time loop story in a nutshell. and the only way to realize how to change your days is to go through near-identical days over and over and figure it out through trial and error. The time loop story is about the blessing of HAVING days. The curse of having days, obviously, is the trap of feeling that they're all the same and you can't change the universe because you're limited by the length of a day—

but the blessing of having days is that you have days. You have the opportunity to live each day and learn from it, to live each day and sink into depression and go crazy go stupid and make mistakes and fall into despair and try again tomorrow. and learn the small things about other people that you'd never notice if you were just off Changing the Universe for hundreds of hours at a time. you change the universe not in a day but in days repeating. See?? do you see do you pick up what I'm putting down??
