hey danny phandom. i gotta tell you about this. you need to hear about it. because what are the odds my two longest-lasting hyperfixations collide like this.
JRWI is an absurdly powerful D&D podcast starring Slimecicle, BizlyChannel, GrizzlyPlays, and Condifiction. They are currently running two TTRPGs: Riptide, which is set in a pirate-themed ocean world called Mana and run in D&D 5E, and Prime Defenders, a futuristic teen superhero campaign set in the world of Prime and run in Mutants & Masterminds. Riptide is their free campaign (located here), and Prime Defenders is their Patreon-exclusive campaign.
Why am I telling you this? Because Prime Defenders features a character named William Wisp, played by Charlie Slimecicle, who was loosely inspired by Danny Phantom. William’s hero name is the Wisperer, and he has ghost powers granted to him by the fact that he fell off a cliff and fucking died at the ripe age of 16 and because the will-o’-the-wisps have taken a liking to him. He even has a white-haired ghost form that he can switch into, even if he doesn’t like to do so.
And I’m also telling you this because who did the Game Master, BizlyChannel, call up for the season 2 finale to do a speech for William during his lowest point yet? David Kaufman himself. As Danny fucking Phantom.
Shout-out to David Kaufman, a critically-acclaimed voice actor known as the voice behind Danny Phantom on Nickelodeon and in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (with the exceptions being in both Nicktoons MLB and SMITE)!
The ultimate enemy has a lot of flaws of course, but one thing I really love about it is Eric roberts' acting. Yeah sure it's sinister and all, but I really adore how he imitates David Kaufman's cadence as danny. If you pay attention he uses the same words young Danny would use and he has similar line delivery (listen to young Danny when he's being smug, he has this self satisfied drawl when he speaks) and Eric roberts' somehow perfectly imitates him despite the difference in sound. Like, theres a lot of things future Danny does and says that potentially takes you out of the story because it is so far removed from the character. But Eric roberts' somehow captured David Kaufman's cadence and delivery and made it so cohesive that the character still feels like Danny. And in turn when David Kaufman is voicing future Danny he does his best to change his tone to match Eric roberts'. I just really appreciate that. It shows they really made an effort for it and I think they worked together to bring it out.
Some drawings of Super Danny, because “Identity Crisis” is one of my favorite Danny Phantom episodes. Seriously,David Kaufman must’ve had a blast voicing the two different versions of Danny in that episode.
Well it was fun while it lasted, but this is probably for the best given all the AI drama still going on that’s been disrupting the livelihood of many talented artists, voice actors, singers, writers, and actors in the film industry. We should definitely support the work of real people as much as we can because sadly, like any tool, technology can always be abused if used the wrong way. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed being able to imagine Danny or Vlad saying certain lines of dialogue, however, we should always remember it was the voice actors who played them back in the day that brought these amazing characters to life in the first place.
Without them, none of these characters would exist let alone have a voice. Literally!
So yeah, just a heads up the policy has changed for uberduck which means the fan uploaded character voices are no longer available for public use. You can read that here: https://uberduck.ai/blog/new-voice-hosting-policy Thankfully I don’t have to take down or delete any of the audio clips I’ve already shared on tumblr which means you’re free to check them out for a bit of nostalgia. And on one final note, I think we all probably know who to blame for AI trying to take over the world right now am I right? This whole mess screams Technus!
