HC that, because Tank felt as if they had a part to play in Quinn’s reign of violent terror, they felt as if they weren’t worth the magic it took to heal them. But then Sam came into their life and suddenly they actually had to worry about getting healed.

Suddenly, Tank has to start budgeting their already strained finances since most of their time is spent trying to hunt down Quinn as opposed to working for hourly pay whenever they can to stock their pantry, which leaves very little money left for healing (idk how insurance or healers work in the redacted-verse so bear with me). So, they learn how to sterilize and suture their own wounds since they refuse to keep burning Sam out, they can’t afford to consistently go to a healer, and absolutely will not ask their (relatively wealthy) family for financial help.

One time they didn’t properly sterilize a wound in their side and it got infected and they ended up passing out in their bathroom when reapplying bandages and ointment because A) the swelling and redness hurt like a bitch to the point where their side felt hot to the touch B) their fever was pretty shit and C) they weren’t drinking enough water because they couldn’t bring themself to get out of bed other than to clean up their side. Cue waking up on the bathroom floor thoroughly confuzzled to frantic knocking at their front door.

Sam freaked the fuck out when he went to their apartment and could smell the distinct, unpleasant scent of infection lingering from outside Tank’s front door. There was a lecture involved, especially after Tank finally answered the door and Sam found out that they got a minor concussion from their bathroom mishap.

At least they’re trying to take better care of themself.

I havent read Shadow and Bone book series, but finished season 2 and entire Darkling/Alina relationship was done so dirty imo. Can sb tell me if this is book accurate?

I had the impression while watching that the writers tried to do everything to make me stop liking this ship after how spicy, intruiging and melancholic it was in s1.

Sorry but one moment between Darkling and Alina has way more chemistry imo than every scene combined between Mal and Alina

It’s funny, but mostly worrying, how some darkling/darklina stans can’t fathom he is a toxic character. Especially since Leigh Bardugo dedicated a whole duology to partly Zoya who was learning to let go of the ways the Darkling taught her.

It’s mentioned so many times how Zoya finds it hard to look at Nikolai when he is in demon form bc she knows it’s a part of the Darkling.

King of Scars also puts a slight emphasis on Zoya’s growing bond with Genya (and Alina) through mostly them being mistreated by your ‘daddy darkles’

Read Genya’s short story “The Tailor” to better understand why she did what she did in Shadow & Bone and how she was manipulated by the Darkling to suffer sexual abuse in the name of his cause.

Hell, read the whole trilogy again because you seriously missed the point of what a self-serving, egotistical, manipulative asshole the Darkling is.

Isn't it ironic how "Feyre stans" complain about any and all criticism of Feyre being misogyny from people who stan male ACOTAR characters (which, don't get me wrong, IS certainly something I've noticed on occasion) while many of them stan the Darkling and hate Alina and Leigh Bardugo?

I haven't read any of Leigh Bardugo's books and I refuse to on principle because booktok lol but I know the major beats OF them through osmosis, and this is an interesting observation, though not surprising. Is there misogyny directed at Feyre's character in fandom? Yes, and I've actually had to block someone for their takes on her being too... outrageous. But as you said, not every single person who critiques her character's trajectory in these books--the white feminism, the racism, the hollow ~empowerment~ message--does so in a misogynistic way or for sexist reasons. Again, Feyre loses her character after book 1 and becomes little more than a self-insert for the reader, a camera through which the reader can admire Rhysand through. And, as I've taken an embarrassingly long time to realize, that's why stans accept Rhysand's abuse--his sexual assault, his torture, his mind-rape, his purposeful endangerment of her life time and time again--as "love", while correctly condemning Tamlin's abuse. Feyre is a self-insert for them, and they (the readers) love the "dark haired bad boy" trope, no matter how horribly handled it is, so they were primed to forgive and excuse everything Rhysand did to her. And Feyre is loved for being their perfect self-insert in ACOMAF; for forgiving and excusing him as well. That is the pinnacle of misogyny--excusing how a man treats a woman and liking her when she excuses him too because you think he's hot. But Alina (again as someone who knows the books only through osmosis lol) rejects the Darklin's offer and kills him, rather than forgive him for hurting her or join him. The readers want to forgive the Darkling because they like the trope he embodies and think he is handsome, but Alina doesn't do what they want and serve as a perfect wish fulfillment fantasy. Alina actually acts as a character, not as a self-insert, and is hated for that.
