Superheroes are stupid, but that's why they're awesome
This might be an opinion that might get people to hate me, but it's worth saying: Superheroes are stupid.
Now, that's not a bad thing. In fact, superheroes being stupid is a large part of why they work. I mean, think of your favorite superhero. Think of how they look or what their powers are. Think about the villains they often fight day after day, week after week, year after year. Think about THEIR NAME.
Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Avengers, The X-Men, The Justice League, The Teen Titans.
Everything about a superhero is stupid, and the best stories aren't JUST the ones where Joker cripples Batgirl or Green Goblin dropped Gwen Stacy off a bridge. I mean, those ARE good stories, but they're not good because they were super serious or incredibly dark. They're good because writers EMBRACED the stupidity of superheroes.
Believe it or not, but embracing stupidity means more than just making jokes or comedies. It also means playing the stupidity straight, telling a story so good that no one could care about nonsense like powers, suits, and even names. Think about it: If a serious story DIDN'T embrace the stupidity of all those things, then it would do away with all of them.
Daredevil may be a crime drama about the cold death grip a mob boss has on the city and the constant battles to fight against him through the justice system, but it still features a blind lawyer who knows martial arts and jumps across rooftops in a devil costume. And the Dark Knight Trilogy might be a more realistic depiction of Batman, but it still has him dress up as a bat as he battles Two-Face and The Joker. Despite telling more serious stories about superheroes, both of them were still willing to embrace the silliness of the character. They just played them for straight instead of for laughs.
And with that said, there's nothing wrong with making comedic stories with superheroes either. Guardians of the Galaxy may have made jokes about the lunacy of a talking raccoon, but that talking raccoon also turns out to have the most tragic backstory of the entire MCU. The Suicide Squad may have people placing bets over which supervillain dies first, but the movie is still about the dark corners of the US government and how it views convicted criminals and "lesser" countries.
A superhero story can embrace stupidity in a serious and comedic fashion. They just need to remember that...
A. Don't reject the notion that superheroes are stupid. Do that, you have a movie like Fant4stic, which takes itself too seriously to the point where it can't even say the name Fantastic Four.
B. Don't lean too much into stupidity. That'll get you something like Batman and Robin, filled with so much cheese and camp that not many people can stomach it.
Whether you play it straight or play it light, never forget how stupid superheroes are. If you forget it, you forget what made them last for decades, nearly centuries. Writers embraced that stupidity and told great stories because of it, and fans couldn't care because they got a good story that lets them see past the stupidity.
We know superheroes are stupid, but that's what make them awesome.

" Is there anything we can do to help manifest what Red Flower predicts for Chris? I can picture this wonderful future for him, but I can also see him getting scared and taking the easy road again, seduced by the enemy he knows. Anything we can do to send positive energy his way since he seems to be surrounded by soul leaches? Thanks! "
🦋
Red Flower here,
I want to start for a message for the collective : You can send prayers and positive energy if you want, it can help and it also elevate the vibration of the situation, but you have to understand that the universe is perfect and what we see now, is his divine purpose that he is following. I asked if everything was perfect in this plan and the answer was positive.
Chris is going through a great awakening coupled with a night of the soul at the same time. Since he's been putting off work for a long time. I had an analogy with RDJ. Few people remember what this man went through, but he was in hellish limbo. He did a lot of drugs, was put in prison for many years before he understood his divine purpose. Today, he's one of the world's most respected actors, married to a stable woman, with children… Everything was perfect. It all depends on the karma you came to this Earth with.
We don't remember it, but we sort of signed up for the obstacles that were put in our way. We are souls living a human experience to learn. Learn what? Unconditional love. This is the goal of all human beings. To recognize and live unconditional love. Some learn it with their partner or friendship, but also parenthood… Through their work too. Artists are the catalysts of divine light. Remember how you feel when you hear music you love, and see how you vibrate. It's the same with a film. When you watch a good film that has brought you comfort or strong emotions…That's why I said in my previous posts that the industry is going to change. There are too many parasites preventing humanity from elevating itself through art, and putting money before magic.
What's going to be hard for Chris isn't really now, but afterwards. After this lamentable show is over and he realizes what a mess it's all been. He'll realize: What's the point of making movies when no one can see you anymore without feeling disgust ?
He is no longer in the good graces of his fans, nor of the public. But strangely enough, that's where he'll find freedom. He won't have to feed the Captain America image, and he can finally come into his own and make bold choices. He'll once again see his profession as an art form, and no longer as a means of making more money to finance his harmful lifestyle. He will be helped by a man - I don't know who exactly, but it's someone in the industry who will encourage him to surprise both the public and himself. His wife will also be a major creative force in his life, and he'll do everything to earn her admiration.
Once again, he chose to learn in the most efficient way to prevent him from screwing up. From what I gather, this has to do with his past lives. He's screwed up a lot in past lives and he doesn't want to sacrifice this one. That's why his lessons are violent but benevolent nonetheless. They're just public, and therefore degrading, as we witness his humiliation, but this will change him for the better. He needs it. He needs to be at the bottom of the hole to see the light.
Thanks for reading.
Namaste. Infinite Gratitude. :)

60 Years to the Marvel Age of Comics
This year Marvel Comics is celebrating 60 years of the Avengers and the Uncanny X-Men. Two superhero teams (not super teams equivalent to DC’s JSA & JLA) that have seen many highs and few lows over the decades. Both transitioned from the pages of comics and onto the TV as well as Silver Screen. Both were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, two names that would start the Marvel Age in the comic book industry with the Fantastic Four in 1961
Tumblr media
A lot has been written, and many documentaries have been produced about this particular era, referred to as the Silver Age. However, what needs to be examined is why we won’t be able to see a repeat of the Marvel Age till the end of time. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that this was Fukuyama’s “End of History” moment that brought superhero content full circle (foundations of which were established by Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster in 1938)
Had Stan given up the industry would still be producing content about ideal beings establishing truth, justice, and the American way, or World Peace for that matter. Luckily for every superhero fan out there, he didn’t nor did Jack Kirby (co-creator of Captain America and the man who drew him punching Hitler), Steve Ditko, John Romita, John Buscema, Gene Colan, Don Heck, Marie Severin, Jim Steranko and Larry Leiber (Stan’s brother). They added realism into a genre that was built on idealism
Tumblr media
Lee, Kirby, and Ditko by Alex Ross
The stories of this era have stood the test of time. Aside from old, heavy hardware being seen in the panels; the struggles of flawed humans speak out and connect till today. The Fantastic Four and The Amazing Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the Invincible Iron-Man, Ant-Man, and Wasp are a reflection of our daily struggles be they financial, emotional, and in the case of X-Men, discrimination
The Age saw a new way of depicting heroes artistically. Kirby and Ditko’s art mesmerized the readers and the same happened when they were succeeded by other comic books art legends like John Romita, and Gil Kane to name a few but what many may not know was that it was during these years, Steve Ditko would introduce corner box art, now considered a cult classic, to help differentiate Marvel titles from the competition on the newsstands. DC had started branding its covers with illustrations of superheroes who would be appearing in anthology books but Ditko took it to a whole new level by making it more organized as well as enhancing the look and feel of the cover
Tumblr media
The foundation laid by Lee, Kirby, and Ditko ensured that younger talents who would succeed them could produce more of such content without compromising their heroic DNA and still keeping them relevant for today’s readers. It is for this reason that the comic book industry’s most tragic tales involved two of the best creations from the Marvel Age, namely Spider-Man and the X-Men
The Night Gwen Stacy Died, written by Gerry Conway and illustrated by Gil Kane, shattered the rule that a superhero would never lose his/her love interest to death. This happened in 1973 (50 Years ago) and wasn’t done to create shock value for short-term sales boosts. It had to be done because the reality outside of the pages was a city suffering from one of the highest crime rates at the time and how can it be possible that a superhero doesn’t get affected by it. Even today, younger readers feel the same pain as their older peers when they actually read the story and go through the panels instead of looking it up on fandom. The X-Men’s Dark Phoenix Saga could have eclipsed Spider-Man’s tragedy had it not been for a reckless decision by Marvel Editorial to bring back Jean in the mid-80s (a decision even Dark Phoenix Saga author Chris Claremont didn’t agree with). Needless to say, Scott Summers lost Jean Grey, and Parker lost Gwen; this was the new precedent for the industry and a continuation of the Marvel Age which established the fact that superheroes can be fragile human beings for whom great power brings great responsibility along with adversity
Tumblr media
From The Coming of Galactus/Galactus Trilogy to the Death of Aunt May to Secret Invasion, all of these stories found a way to connect deep down with the audiences not just in terms of personalities or social issues but even beliefs as well as trust in one another which reminds us that it was during the 60s that Marvel broke the racial barrier long before any other publisher ever thought of, giving us stories that would be way ahead of their time. Whether it’s about Mutation and Cloning or Kirby’s Madbomb, we are living in a world that is seeing glimpses of such developments, if not in entirety
Let’s face it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe won’t exist had it not been for the works produced in the 60s. The global popularity of Avengers, Spider-Man, and X-Men (thanks mainly to FOX Studios) shows that without a solid base, a structure or a studio can’t be erected on top of it
Tumblr media
A homage to Joe Simon and Jack Kirby
All of Marvel’s success goes back to these formative years of 1961-63 in which flawed, struggling individuals would redefine what superheroes were all about in the pages of The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, The Avengers (Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and Wasp) and X-Men as well as breathe new life into Golden Age characters such as Captain America and Namor. The rest is history!

About Me:
I’ve had quite a few new followers these past few weeks, so I thought I would make a little about me post, just so you all know what you’re getting into.
First off, hello! My name is Madison (she/her), I’m 19 (will be 20 in January which is. . . something I’m not thinking about at the moment), I’m bisexual, extremely liberal (racists, misogynists, homophobes, transphobes, etc. can fuck off and die), and I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. My favourite thing in the world to do is write, and I love to read as well.
Here are some of my favourite things, sorted by category:
Star Wars
Favourite characters: Leia Organa, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ben Solo, Hera Syndulla, Ahsoka Tano, Din Djarin, Captain Rex, Poe Dameron, Rey Skywalker, Satine Kryze, Luke Skywalker, Asajj Ventress, Luminara Unduli, and many, many more
I love every movie, and every TV show (I was admittedly not a fan of Andor, but I’m so happy that so many people loved it so much!), and I’m working through some of the canon novels
This is my first fandom, one of my first loves. No matter how deeply I fall in love with other things I will never love them like I love Star Wars
Marvel
Favourite Characters: Natasha Romanoff, Loki Laufeyson, Bucky Barnes, Wanda Maximoff, Kate Bishop, Jennifer Walters, Steve Rogers, Carol Danvers, Sylvie, Marc Spector, Valkyrie, Peggy Carter, Yelena Belova, and many, many more.
I love every movie and TV show (to varying degrees, but nonetheless) but my favourite movies are Endgame, Infinity War, No Way Home, Eternals, Winter Soldier, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Ragnarok (not necessarily in that order), and my favourite shows are Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Loki, Werewolf by Night, Hawkeye (not necessarily in that order)
I also very casually read Marvel comics (just a few here and there whenever I find some that pique my interest)
DC
Admittedly, not nearly as much as Marvel. There isn’t a lot of emotional attachment. Honestly it’s bordering on contempt at this point, especially after spending money to go see The Flash in theatres
But I love The Batman, Wonder Woman, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, the Dark Knight trilogy, Harley Quinn, and Batman (1989). I am cautiously excited for many of their upcoming projects under James Gunn’s leadership
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is my all-time favourite comic book and honestly just one of my favourite books of all time. It’s truly a beautiful work of art.
Lord of the Rings
I’ve seen all three movies and 2/3 Hobbit movies, and I’ve read Fellowship of the Ring (planning on getting to the other two soon). I also watched and absolutely adored The Rings of Power.
My favourite characters are Éowyn and Aragorn, but I love Merry, Pippin, Legolas, and Gimli too. And Galadriel, Elrond, Durin, Elendil, Miriel, and Halbrand in TRoP
I’m admittedly not the most well-versed in LOTR, but I do really enjoy it.
A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones:
Don’t even get me started on those goddamn shows. Seasons 7 and 8 of GoT and HoTD infuriate me on a daily basis but goddamn it I love this world so much. Westeros is so important to me
Favourite characters: Daenerys, Jaime, Cersei, Jon, Arianne, Brienne, Robb, and more
Favourite Targaryens (it’s the best house, fight me): Visenya, Aegon I, Rhaenyra, Daemon, Rhaena the Queen in the East/West, Alysanne, Daena the Defiant, Aegon V, Rhaegar, and probably more I’m forgetting
Movies:
Almost Famous (my favourite of all time)
Good Will Hunting
Memento
The Usual Suspects
Frances Ha, Mistress America, Lady Bird, Little Women, Barbie (anything with Greta Gerwig involved)
Dazed and Confused
Tombstone
Tick, Tick . . . BOOM!
Father of the Bride 1 & 2
You’ve Got Mail
When Harry Met Sally
Palm Springs
Before Sunrise
The Princess Diaries
Dogma (anything Kevin Smith, really)
Anything John Hughes
Garden State
His Girl Friday
10 Things I Hate About You
The Princess Bride
Disney movies (I grew up on those princesses and damn it, I still love ‘em)
Scooby-Doo (it’s just so dumb and comforting after a long day)
Also just 80s/90s movies, particularly comedies
TV Shows:
Lost (my favourite of all time. I could talk about it for hours on end)
Roseanne (my favourite sitcom. Roseanne Barr might be a piece of shit but Roseanne and Dan Conner raised me)
The Walking Dead (very close second favourite show)
The Sandman
Good Omens
Community
Gilmore Girls
That 70’s Show
Daisy Jones and the Six
Friends
Seinfeld
Once Upon A Time
Ted Lasso (even though they fucked it at the end)
Superstore
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
The Good Place
Sons of Anarchy
Peaky Blinders
Scrubs
Bridgerton
Golden Girls
Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley
The Umbrella Academy
Schitt’s Creek
Only Murders in the Building
The Last of Us
Band of Brothers
Succession
Bojack Horseman
Grace & Frankie
Way, way more I can’t think of. I watch way too much TV. Just ask, I’ve probably seen it.
Music:
The Beatles (my all-time favourite band. I saw Paul McCartney in 2018 and almost died)
Pearl Jam
Phoebe Bridgers & boygenius
Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots
Anything from the 50’s and 60’s pretty much (i.e. The Beach Boys, Petula Clark, Jay and the Americans, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Buddy Holly, Sam Cooke, Simon & Garfunkel, Herman’s Hermits, The Zombies. Just ask, I probably love it.
Fleetwood Mac
Taylor Swift (I’m not a full Swiftie, but I’m getting there)
Olivia Rodrigo
The Chicks
Elton John
Billy Joel
Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child
ABBA
KISS
The Cranberries
Led Zeppelin
The Mountain Goats
Honestly it would probably be quicker to say who I don’t listen to in some capacity
Musicals:
Hamilton
Hadestown
Heathers
Wicked
In the Heights
Six
Grease, The Sound of Music, Mamma Mia, and other movie musicals
Books:
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab - never before has a book seemed like it was written just for me. And it’s so beautiful. Schwab is just my favourite author of all time, I’ll read anything of hers
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas - I read these as the last few were coming out and I still have such an attachment to them
Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - my favourite movie is Almost Famous so naturally, this was perfect for me. Goddamn did I love it.
A Song of Ice and Fire, of course
Classics: A Tale of Two Cities, Pride and Prejudice, The Handmaid’s Tale, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
The entire Grishaverse series by Leigh Bardugo
That’s just off the top of my head. There are many, many more, and I’ll always take recommendations!
Basically just fantasy. I love fantasy books more than anything
All Elite Wrestling:
My most recent obsession
I’m watching it through from the beginning so I haven’t seen everything just yet
Favourite wrestlers: CM Punk, MJF, Orange Cassidy, Kris Statlander, all the Best Friends honestly, Adam Cole, Cody Rhodes, Danhausen, Thunder Rosa, Juice Robinson, Toni Storm, Sting, Christian Cage, Eddie Kingston, Jon Moxley, Hangman Adam Page, Willow Nightingale, Hikaru Shida (not necessarily in that order other than the first 5, and there are more)
(I would love to have more women on that list but the women don’t get any good storylines or promo time or character development so I don’t form as many emotional attachments with as many of them. Book. The. Women’s. Division. Better.)
Favourite storylines/feuds: AdaMJF, Punk/MJF, Cody/MJF, Orange Cassidy/Chris Jericho, anything involving the Best Friends, everything with Hangman (from the very beginning all the way to where I am now, where he has just won the championship), probably more but that’s just off the top of my head
And that’s me, essentially. If you made it this far, I salute you. If there’s anything you want to know, feel free to ask! My asks and dms are always open, whether you’re a mutual or a complete stranger. Never be afraid to say hi!

Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)
Chapter Two
Tumblr media
Warnings: none all nice
Chapter one | Chapter three
Tumblr media
When dad first picked you up from the airport, you were wearing a Spiderman shirt you bought from a street vendor in New York. Dad didn't look too pleased about you moving from fictional heroes to real ones who are breaking real life laws.
"Why can't you like firefighters or something?"
Those were the first words he spoke to you while packing your luggage into the back of his car.
"Why can't you like, I don't know, like Spiderman?"
Your father is a retired police officer. Used to be in the military and when he left working for Uncle Sam, he went into the police force. You love him! Really do, but it wasn't easy being his kid. Especially when you had a rebellion phase, it had put a strain on your relationship with him.
Mom and dad lived separately. Mom couldn't handle his PTSD and dad couldn't handle someone who wasn't understanding about his job. You stayed with mom until now, it has been a long time since you have seen your father.
"So are the fish and chips better here than back home?" After the awkward silent drive to his place, you speak up while taking the lift up to his… Flat. "Ever really thought about why they call it a Flat and not an apartment?"
"No." He grabs your bags with ease and walks out if the lift once at the floor he and now you live on.
"Maybe because after rent you are left," A pause for dramatic effect, "Flat broke! Ey!"
Your dad does not have a great sense of humor.
*
After showing you to your room, the amenities in the apartment, and giving you a copy of his keys. He laid down the standard ground rules, plus how the chores in the place are divided. Dad is well, you can tell he is trying to keep busy and pretend things are normal. "Congratulations." Talking was more of mom's thing than dad.
You smile, "Thanks." And you mean it. "Do you want to talk about it? Last time I saw you was at the funeral, dad." It still hurts to mention it. Mom died a few months back and you were staying with her sister, your aunt. "Because talking helps!" Trying hard to be there for a man who isolated himself completely to the point he moved to a whole different other country!
He looked at his watch before getting up from his chair, the 'man of the house' stereotype chair, "I got to go to work." He places his hand over your shoulder then pulls you into a hug, you hug him back recalling how he would do this often: kneel in front of you and hold you, his kid.
"I'll call you when I get to work."
"Are you still a cop?"
"With these old bones, no. I work at a restaurant."
"Wow." That's a big career change.
"See you later. Remember: no boys, or girls, or persons are allowed while I'm gone."
"Thumbs up on inclusiveness." Waving at him.
You sit there for a minute, looking around with your eyes, then playing with the fabric of the couch. "Form update tonight!" Getting up bolting to your room.
*
There's a dark (not really) mysterious (government is probably tracking it) site (it's reddit) where people come together posting videos, sharing fan art, and theories on heroes and villains. Got a forum starting from Captain America to Squirrel Girl, this place has everything. Recently, you and about five other people have been talking about a new hero videoed in Cairo. Eye witness reports, and few sketched out descriptions of two people. The one with bird wings is a really popular one. You find the person in white fascinating. The forum is updated every Thursday night, not a lot of posts about the mystery in white since there hasn't been much sightseeing of them since Cairo.
You lay on your bed making a long drawn out huff seeing the only new update is a theory post.
There are over three to four actual photos of the person in white. The shot and angles aren't the best but it is all anyone has. You hope to see the guy in the white suit the people in the forum say was seened in London.
You decide to just draw some sketches out and look over some class stuff before scavenging for food. Really doubt dad went food shopping.
Tumblr media
Two months in London.
If you pretend it is New York you actually find it easy to navigate. If New York was easy to navigate! You have been taking public transportation to get used to rather than have your dad spend gas on driving you everywhere (not that he minds). Two months, you are trying hard to adapt to this branch of your college. Lots of white collar students, you are here on scholarship and because dad knows a guy here. You stand out being American but not too much given there are other international students.
Friends are nonexistent. Socializing is not easy when you are hyperfocusing on getting a shit ton of projects done! Also your Art History professor is a dick.
However, for the minor bad things you have a cute guy asleep on your shoulder. Nothing new given you lived on public transportation back home.
Cheap and helps the environment.
The jerk of the bus wakes up the man on your shoulder, you barely noticed until he spoke.
"Sorry 'bout that." His accent is cute! The classic British movie type! Sipping what smells like coffee from his tumbler.
"Nah, man, you're fine!" Bright and smiley, he noticed you have an American accent, "You looked like you needed it. Hope you didn't miss your stop though." You talk while stretching in your, what looks like a notepad. "Oh here, thanks for being my muse for the ride." Still half awake he takes the piece of paper you give him before getting up. "This my stop, uh, cheers!"
Once off the bus you stand there then facepalm yourself.
You forgot to ask his name!
*
Too many essays, too many people in the study lounge, and you need to buy another sketchbook. Add on you started taking commissions online to get an extra pound or two (you want to say dollar so bad). Busy, busy, and the spring semester just started!
The library called the British Library has become your only safe haven to have any peace to do work.
Be back home by 8 - Dad
You groan. Your father works graveyard shift at the restaurant meaning you need to be at the apartment before he leaves. Glancing at the book next to your tablet you figure might as well start heading back. Bus schedules being shit is an international problem, who knew… Packing up is fairly quick and walking over to the reception desk like any normal person.
Then you see him.
Placing books on a cart, then typing something quickly on the computer behind the low desk. You stare at him longer than you intended.
"Miss?" He waves his hand in front of your face, "Do you need help?"
"Yo!" He raises an eyebrow at that reply, "Wait, sorry." You laugh nervously, "Hi, you're the sleepy bus guy, right?"
He blinks twice clearly confused before realization hits him, "The sketch?"
"Yeah, that's me, oh wow," You place your hand out, "I'm (Name)!"
He takes it, "Steven with a 'v'."
"There's another way to spell?"
"You'll be surprised." Deadpan about that. You laugh a little at it.

I drunkenly explain Warhammer 40000 (despite not having played it in years).
Just watched Henry Cavill talk about Warhammer 40000. He heard people say they thought the Snyderverse movies were too grim and dark so thought to himself ‘I’ll show you grimdark – you’re gonna think the Snyderverse was like flipping Glee by the time I’m done’.
When I was younger I did used to pick up some of the rulebooks to read some of the lore and short stories in them, but never really got into the miniatures and wargaming side of it. Much the same with D&D but the art and writing in Warhammer was generally far better, if relentlessly horrific and grim (unless it was about Orks – they’re the only ones in 40k really having a good time there). Anyway despite the fact that its been many years since I’ve kept up with it, here is a summary of 40K (that’ll probably just annoy the real dedicated fans):
Basically, it’s ‘what if medieval Catholics had hi-tech weapons and power armor?’ At least that’s the humans, or Imperium, and the witches and demons they’re afraid of are real and the Space Pope has been in a coma for something like 10,000 years. Maybe Space Pope isn’t quite right – he’s actually called The Emperor and is worshipped more like a god. But if their god ever wakes up and sees what humanity has become, he’ll probably be pissed.
The big advantage 40K has over most fantasy is that it has a very distinctive look. I mean there might be other gothic space fantasy out there, but when you see a Space Marine (Adeptus Astartes – see I know more than you or even I thought) you know exactly where you are (and that you should get out of that universe quickly because in about five minutes you’ll either be eviscerated for being a heretic, infested with alien parasites, or some cosmic horror will make your head explode). Space Marines are the elite soldiers of the Imperium – every one of them is like Captain America in an Ironman suit wielding Thor’s hammer.
Now I do know that this originally started as a game called Rogue Trader. Games Workshop used to produce Middle Earth TTRPGs (I actually did have one of their old games from that time around) and I think still do Lord of the Rings stuff, as well as their own fantasy world. Anyhow, they decided to take the standard fantasy races and just reimagine them in a sci-fi setting. You’ve got the Orcs/Orks of course, and the Eldar who are essentially just space elves. You also had Squats, or space Dwarves – they were there early on, but basically just disappeared for a while. I think I heard recently they’ve come back though, but I don’t know where they went or what they were doing. Probably doing secret space dwarf stuff underground.
Then later they added other races like Tyranids, who are a hive mind who seem somewhat inspired by the Xenomorph in Alien. And the Tau who seem sort of anime inspired and the only people in this universe who aren’t all complete jerks. Who else? Necrons – they’re cybernetic mummies. And Chaos and Dark Eldar who just like the bad – well, more bad – versions of the Imperials and Craftworld Eldar.
So that’s Warhammer 40000. Now that you’ve had this primer you can go and join in conversations with all the really cool kids.

cactus, abelia, daffodil, sage, edelweiss, jasmine, palm tree, nutmeg, papyrus 😁
Oh! So many!! Thank you, friend, this was very sweet of you!! I will try (and inevitably fail) to keep from rambling too terribly, but know that I love and appreciate you so dearly for this!!
This got long, so answers are under the cut! 💖💞💖
Get to know me!
cactus ⇢ something you’re currently learning (about)?
I'm learning French! All over again. I am haunted by the Duolingo owl and its reminder to keep my streak up and have so far done pretty well for someone who usually absolutely sucks at remembering to do things on a daily basis!
abelia ⇢ do you have a particular piece of jewelry you always wear or can’t part with?
I answered this here, but basically: I do not! I'm not much of a jewelry wearer, in truth. I tend to fidget, and in fidgeting, break things. I do wear jewelry often though, mostly when I need to look professional or if I'm going to an event — my mother's costume jewelry from India is... not an everyday thing though, for sure.
daffodil ⇢ do you have siblings? if yes, in what ways do you think you’re similar to or different from them?
I have a younger brother! He's the smarter one, the much more put-together one, and the definitely way better at his job one. He's in college now, about to graduate, and having all manner of adventures I was too scared to have at his age.
sage ⇢ what ‘medium’ of art (poetry, music, fiction, paintings, statues etc.) is the most touching to you? why do you think that is?
Music really gets to me. I grew up really immersed in religion and so many of our prayers are "sung" rather than said aloud, and so the way I learned the history of my faith is through music. I find myself closest to the Divine when I am listening to music, and growing up as part of an Abrahamic faith, I do resonate with Christian allegory because those are stories I remember being sung during majlis too. Every prayer I remember is because it was sung to me when I was learning it, and to this day, I keep those same tunes.
edelweiss ⇢ how’d you think of your url/username? what’s it associated with to you?
Puns. Oh lord, so many puns. My username was something handed to me, after I made so many puns I earned the name Puntessa (Pun + Contessa) and then the name Punemy (Pun + Enemy) as well as numerous jokes about them spotting me the moment they saw [Puntessa is typing...] on Discord.
jasmine ⇢ do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again?
There's this Bollywood film, Bajirao Mastani, that I absolutely adored. It was cinematic and beautiful, the costume and set design were sublime, the story was heartbreaking, the music still resonates with me... and then the ending happened and it was just so absolutely poorly done that I can never watch it again because I'm convinced the ending was when they ran out of money and just gave up. Awful awful awful CGI.
palm tree ⇢ do you have a fictional villain you shouldn’t like but love regardless?
I mean like... all of them? Listen. As a Captain America fan, as someone who considers Steve Rogers to be their comfort character, the fact that I am head over heels in love with Helmut Zemo is an actual problem and I should probably feel guilty but I don't. I'm gonna just... make it work, one day.
nutmeg ⇢ how’s your room/home decorated? do you have a specific theme or style going on?
Chaotically. I have books everywhere. Laundry that still needs folding. None of the posters I bought to put up in my room are actually put up. It feels a bit like a dorm room that I keep telling myself I'll decorate one day, but am often too busy/too tired to actually decorate. Maybe if I settle somewhere more permanent I'll hire someone to decorate my house in the dark mushroomcore aesthetic I desire.
papyrus ⇢ if you put your ‘on repeat’ playlist on shuffle, what’s the first song that comes up? what do you like about it / associate it with?
The first song that came up was Lay this Body Down by Sam Lee and I've had that one on repeat for days working on Sixteen Tons so I associate it with that fic, with exhaustion and giving just a bit too much of the self, with that nasty habit of people-pleasing that so many are afflicted with these days, and with becoming the monsters our parents make of us, baring our throats to the sky as we cry out for something more than the inevitable.
You know. Healthy thoughts.

Okay, this time I’m really going to do a very shallow post—
The attractiveness of good-looking male characters, as ranked by me, a lesbian:
Tier 1: Hot Men Described Vaguely in Non-Visual Canons
Examples: most of Tolkien’s men (tall, usually with dark/black hair and grey eyes, beautiful) and some of Austen’s (tall, good figures, handsome, other details unspecified). My brain goes “oh, so like male versions of the women I find attractive. Got it.”
Tier 2: Good-Looking Men in Animation and Non-Photorealistic Art
Examples: too many Avatar characters to list.
Tier 3: Good-Looking Men Played By Actual Men or Realistically Depicted in Art, But There’s Something Slightly Odd About Them
Examples: most of the men in Star Wars are like this, no matter what they actually look IRL. It’s actually in some way more appealing than
Tier 4: Characters Played by Very Conventionally Attractive Men
Examples: superhero movies are big into this, so you’ve got your Captain America and Superman and whatever. I respect the bone structure, I guess?
Tier 5: Others Who Are Allegedly Attractive In the Right Light
Examples: not naming names, but while certain fan faves do nothing for me, I intellectually understand the appeal in some specific depictions.

WHB’s Ever-Growing List of Comic Recommendations
I am SICK and TIRED of people saying they’re not into comics!!! You could be!!! You just read a Captain America comic one time and realised it kinda sucked!!!! It probably did!!!!!! There’s other comics!!!!!!!!!
In fact I am intentionally NOT going to include DC or Marvel in this list because there’s so fuckin many of them dude. That’s gonna be a different list entirely.
Anyway I’m gonna break this up into segments as best I can and hope I remember all the amazing works I’ve read over the years. This is also only a light sprinkling of things I’ve read that I think are good starting points. If you ejoyed something and want more like it, or are more interested in one type of comic than another, I’ll happily give you more options.
If you’d like any info about how/where to read these comics just DM me and I’ll happily answer any questions.
Western Industry-Published Comics:
Tank Girl - I fucking love Tank Girl. I have a HUGE collection of Tank Girl comics. 1, 2 and 3 have NOT aged well, but Tank Girl was very much a symbol of counter-culture and was used as an icon for protests against Section 28 and the Thatcher regime. Crass, violent, scruffy and extremely punk. The upside is, you can pick just ONE TG title and read only that. She’s been passed around a few different publication companies and been handled by a variety of writers, so the themes and values of the comics are quite broad. My personal favourite is Visions of Booga.
The Ballad of Halo Jones (cancelled) - oh my GODD this COMIC. A 2000 AD genstone. The tragedy of Halo Jones is that the comics got cancelled due to a dispute with her creators and the company. Alan Moore at his absolute finest, creating the most elaborate sci-fi world with really great characters. Every day I morn that only 3 of 9 volumes were ever made.
Saga (ongoing) - o, um, you’re NOT reading Saga? cringe... Jokes aside, Saga published by Image Comics is fantastic. This immense space fantasy follows an inter-species family escaping the war that separates their people. The art is great, the characters are wonderful, the world building is fantastic, it’s so, so immersive. Sex, drugs, and violence abound. An epic space-opera for adult readers. Dude, c’mon, just read it smh
The Pride - This started small and indie but was picked up by Dark Horse. Joe Glass’ response to the lack of representation in Marvel and DC comics. A superhero series where all the characters are out-and-proud queer and fight against queerphobia and oppression, with very blunt explorations of hate crime, AIDS, and inter-community issues. Loveable characters and great art.
Scott Pilgrim VS The World - YEAH I’LL DO IT, I’LL REC SCOTT PILGRIM. I genuinely loved these comics as a teenager, they felt so cool and funny and fresh and dynamic. They were everything I wanted my life to be. Ultimate geeky dorky comic.
Jem and the Holograms - you remember that cartoon? well the comics go hard. VERY cool rock sci-fi, great new takes on the characters, queer as hell, very fun. definitely aimed at bringing more Jem content to fans who have grown up and want something a little more intense.
Persepolis - I’ve only just started reading this. It’s a memoir of the cultural shift in Iran and it’s very real and down-to-earth. Incidentally this is a Banned Book, so obviously that is why I recommend you read it. Incidentally quite a few comics about politics and identity have been banned around the world, so I suggest finding a list of them and reading through all of them as soon as you can.
World of Warcraft: Deathknight - not gonna dress this one up. it’s the manga about Koltira and Thassarian. I legit think the WoW lore comics and books are good. I want these two to kiss.
.
Japanese Manga:
Death Note - oh my god. dude. just read it. or watch it. i don’t care. this is a cultural ICON. this blew my MIND. the character tensions and dynamics, the long-term planning and payoff, the plot twists, the characters, it’s amazing.
Full Metal Alchemist - this should go without saying. i don’t think either anime really successfully adapted the manga. a very in-depth war-time fantasy with brilliant characters, so many plotlines and complex socio-political issues, a huge cast of different types of characters. It has the RANGE.
Uzumaki - I generally recommend Junji Itou’s work anyway, and tend to prefer his shorter stuff, but this particular horror series is so iconic and has some incredible artwork and imagery that just stays with you forever. Personally not a huge fan of the ending but it is very his style.
Shaman King - this aged both very badly and very well, somehow. the mix of traditional shaman practices from around the world, as well as the use of mythology and folk tales to pad out this urban fantasy, is very engaging and interesting. The characters are all from very different walks of life and it’s so easy to get attached to them. the anime adaptions didn’t quite capture the sheer intensity of this story and while it very much is a shonen, it has so much else going for it that really makes it such a unique gem of a series.
Black Butler (ongoing) - oh my god PLEASE read Black Butler. don’t bother with the anime. ignore that. you THINK this is gonna be a fanservicey series about fancy boys and demons but it’s NOT. it’s about TRAUMA and CORRUPTION and SECRET SOCETIES and PLOTS and it is getting better and better and better with each chapter. the artwork is gorgeous and the characters went from archetypes to really complex and fleshed out with individual backstories and I love them all dearly. this series has made me cry.
Saint Young Men (ongoing) - Jesus and Buddha are roommates in modern-day Japan. It’s a very fun and easy slice-of-life that takes a teasing but respectful angle on the two faiths and is just so wholesome. Was a big meme a few years ago.
The Way of the House Husband (ongoing) - you’ve seen this manga about. an ex-Yakuza becomes a house-husband to a working wife who loves magical girl anime. Slice-of-life with some of the most intense artwork and hilarious dynamics.
Skull Faced Book Seller Honda-San - a non-fiction account of a bookseller and the various customers they encounter. Very funny and truthful and easy to read.
The Two Of Them Are Pretty Much Like This (ongoing) - Slice-of-life lesbian romance with an age gap. The two must carefully balance their professional and private life, and navigate where they can and can’t be open about their relationship.
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō  /  Quiet Country Café - scifi future post-environmental-apocalypse slice-of-life about an android who runs a café and the various people she meets and the strange world around her. Perfect for fans of Ghibli films.
.
Independent Comics
Emily Is Burning - Honestly I rec most of Steph Seed’s work, her limited use of dialogue and impressionistic-style artwork lends itself so well to the weird horror stories she creates
NPC Tea (ongoing) - urban fantasy story about D&D type characters who run a tea shop, but must also deal with a dangerous power that threatens to destroy everything.
The Miracles - from the same creator as The Pride, this is another superhero story that focuses more on alternate universes, coming of ages, secrets and deception.
.
WebToons and Web Comics:
Homestuck - fuck you. yeah im recommending Homestuck. it’s GOOD okay? it’s innovative and complex and deep and hilarious and weird and imaginative and it’s everything. there’s a BUNCH of lets-reads online to make it easier for you and loads of dubs and helpful guides to navigate it. It’s fucking good okay. shut up.
Ava’s Demon (ongoing) - gorgeous art, really cool space fantasy, loveable chaacters, animated sequences, I could go on. It’s a slow, slow update because of the sheer quality of the artwork that goes into it.
Lackadaisy (ongoing) - another absolute banger of artwork and detail. set in probation era about an underground bar, the goofy and eccentric characters get in violent fights, tangle with the law, and get up to be questionable and extremely illegal hijinks to keep their bar going as the business starts to wane. Updates are on hold while the creators work on an ACTUAL ANIMATED MOVIE for it.
Heartstopper (ongoing)- YEAH IM GAY. WHAT OF IT. I LOVE this gushy, mushy, sweet little comic about theseschool boys in love!!! This is a webcomic but has been officially published into paper books. The show is lovely and captures it well but the series is much further on than the show is. I genuinely hope it’s making life of queer teens easier!!! Because god damn it was bad when I was growing up!!!!
Mage and the Demon Queen (ongoing) - beautiful WebToon set in an RPG style fantasy world where a young mage falls in love with the enemy of her people, Demon Queen Velverosa. Adventure romance with a lot more happening than it first lets on.
Carciphona - Very elaborate and stunning fantasy series about magic, war, uprisings and mysterious backstories. Engaging character dynamics and intrigue throughout. The spin-off slice-of-life romance series Amongst Us is also worth a read.
Ruby Quest - you are not ready for this. Using the characters of Animal Crossing and an incredibly simplistic artstyle, this sci-fi horror used reader-input choices to navigate the world and storyline. A mix of rpg-style reading, animated panels and single-panel storytelling create immense amounts of tension and clever use of detail in the right places adds to the horror element. It’s spiritual successor, Nan Quest, is also very recommended.

White Vision Merch Guide
Tumblr media
I have a pretty sizable collection of Vision (and Scarlet Witch) merch, and often get asked about pieces available. A friend asked for a guide to all of the known White Vision merch, so I’ve put this together.
This guide will ONLY include official Marvel items for right now. There are plenty of great fan-made pieces too, such as pins and stickers (even some cute plushies) but that is a nearly impossible search to make a comprehensive list.
I will NOT be including comics in this list, or made-to-order items like shirts and art prints, as much like fan-made items it would be almost impossible to track all of these down. Sites like Hot Topic, Box Lunch, and Disney Store have offerings if you are looking for a White Vision shirt to be printed.
I spend a lot of time in toy collector spaces and looking for items online as a hobby, and this list consists of everything I know of. If you know of a White Vision item I have missed, please let me know (so I can add it to my own collection ;) )
MCU/WandaVision Merch:
Marvel Funko WandaVision #824: Released in 2021, along with a Glow in the Dark Variant. A Diamond Edition Variant also released in 2022.
Tumblr media
Funko Soda Vision (White Vision Variant): These were just announced the week before I’m writing this post, and are currently a pre-order scheduled for release later in 2022. White Vision will be the chase variant in the set.
Tumblr media
Hasbro Marvel Legends Wave 6 - WandaVision The Vision: Released 2021, also comes with pieces to assemble wings for Captain America Sam Wilson who was part of same series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hot Toys The Vision 1:6 Scale Figure: Released for pre-order in 2021, estimated release is Q3-4 2022. Looks like he will have light up effects for his power source, as well as 2 eye sets for the CATARACT look vs ‘normal’ Vision.
Tumblr media
Hot Toys The Vision Cosbaby: Released 2021 as part of WandaVision Hot Toys announcement.
Tumblr media
Iron Studios 1:4 and 1:10 Scale Statues: Pre-order announcement in 2022 with estimated release date in Q3-4 2022. There is a large 1/4 scale statue, and a smaller 1/10 scale one, but the sculpt appears to be the same for both with slightly different bases.
1:4 Scale:
Tumblr media
1:10 Scale:
Tumblr media
Bleacher Creatures WandaVision Kuricha Pack: Plush set sold as a pack released in 2021. Plushes are bean-filled and about 8 inches tall. (The fact that they released a 2-pack of plush and it’s White Vision made me happier than it should have)
Tumblr media
LEGO 71031 Marvel Studios Series: One of the options found in the Marvel Studios LEGO blind bags released in 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disney Key Marvel Disney+ Mystery Series: Also released in 2021, this set is another blind-bag style collectable. There is a White Vision themed key design, as well as one for SWORD and Scarlet Witch.
Tumblr media
Marvel Studios 24 Pin Advent Calendar: Released in 2021, this was a holiday advent calendar with pins from the Disney+ series including WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If?, and Hawkeye. There are a few WandaVision pins, including a White Vision design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
100% Soft Official Marvel Emoji Pins: Released in 2022, the artist who created the cute emojis found on Twitter and olther social media has released pins of the designs. White Vision was a limited edition variant of the WandaVision set.
Tumblr media
TeeTurtle Marvel Collection: TeeTurtle releases new designs all the time, and have 1 featuring White Vision at the time of this post.
Tumblr media
Hot Wheels Character Cars WandaVision The Vision: Released in 2021, part of the character car collection.
Tumblr media
616 Comic-Verse White Vision:
There isn’t much White vision merch for his comic appearance that I have found, but with his introduction in the MCU we’ve seen a few pieces pop up.
Applause PVC Marvel Figures: Released in 1990s? These pop up on Ebay and Etsy from time to time, but are difficult to find. There were a lot of Marvel characters made, including a White Vision and Scarlet Witch (Photo from my collection because I haven’t ever found a picture with packaging).
Tumblr media
Marvel Legends Infinite Series Target Exclusive 3-Pack: The White Vision was included in a Target Exclusive set released in 2015. The figure is pretty neat as it features a semi-transluscent paint application.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marvel Pin Mates The Infinity Gauntlet Set G02: Released in 2018 as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive, this set features key characters from The Infinity Gauntlet comic arc, including White Vision.
Tumblr media
Marvel Legends Vintage (Retro) Series Vision: Released 2022, this appears to be a reissue of the 2015 figure but with a new opaque paintjob. I love the retro-packaging on this one. There was a Scarlet Witch released with him too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Funko Marvel BattleWorld Vision Exclusive Edition Variant: Released in 2022, Marvel Battleworld series 3 offered a Vision themed starter kit. The Spectral Vision appears as a chase variant.
Tumblr media
And there we have it! I will try to update this list as new items are discovered/released. There are also a number of wonderful fan-made items you can find online through Etsy and artists personal stores, and I may create a list of items I have of that nature in the future.

Turn of the Wheel: She Was Ours First
In honor of the opening of Multiverse of Madness this weekend, here is Kari's piece of multiversal insanity.
"Róisín Dubh" is Irish for "Little Dark Rose" (via Google Translate)
This is a window into what has been Kari's history on various play-by-post boards since 2001. I thank those gents who have gamed off me for helping make Kari who she is today. Sadly, none are on Tumblr.
No warnings for this one except for very brief sex reference and one brief violence reference.
Not beta read. All mistakes are my own.
Word count: 2.8k
Art credit: Image by Christian_Birkholz from Pixabay
If you wish to be added to the taglist for this or any of my stories, please drop me an ask. Reblogs, likes and comments gladly appreciated!
Tumblr media
“OK, what bar is this anyway? Róisín Dubh? Did Kari drag you here or something? Should I expect leprechauns?”
Sam was beyond annoyed that Bucky had dragged him to some weird “old man” Irish bar in Brooklyn, but then he saw the look on Bucky’s face. He seemed clueless about this place, too. “I got this note from Kari saying to meet her here. That’s all I know.”
As they went to open the front door, all smoky hard wood, brass and etched glass, an unseen “force” pushed them inside and toward an empty table.
“Bub, watch it!” a hairy and slightly grumpy man smoking a cigar said as he ducked out of the way of the newcomers. His cowboy hat fell off his head, but he was able to grab it before it hit the floor. “Oh, you guys are new here. Pull up a chair, and tell us about your Red. Nate, grab some glasses and that expensive hootch on the counter.”
Bucky and Sam looked at each other, then back to where the door was. Scratch that. Where the door had been. It vanished as soon as they walked in.
“What the hell is going on?” Bucky asked as he looked back toward the bar and saw a tall, white haired man with a glowing eye and what appeared to be a cybernetic arm coming over to the table.
Tumblr media
“You just joined the fan club, right? Nathan Summers. This is Logan Howlett. And I take it you know Kari,” the man said as he set the glasses and bottle down on the nicked-up wooden tabletop. The chairs were standard issue bar seating and were just as dinged-up as the table. “So do they,” he said as he pointed to a group of men at the other end of the bar. “Better drink up, fellas. It’s going to be a long night.”
"Tortured look. Metal arm. Our gal does have a type," Logan said as he poured the "hootch"--Midleton Very Rare Dair Ghaelach Irish whiskey--into the glasses. "What's your story?"
“Why do I suddenly wish I’d gone to see Rogers: The Musical with Sarah and the boys? Should have gotten those extra tickets,” Sam mused as he looked at the glass of whiskey placed before him. “Where are my manners? Sam Wilson. Captain America. And this is Bucky Barnes…”
“The Winter Soldier, or the White Wolf of Wakanda, if they aren’t too pissed at me anymore,” Bucky said as he picked up his glass.
“Wolverine and Cable,” Logan said as he pointed to himself and then Nathan. “Different worlds. Same redhead. ”
Sam looked around the room and rolled his eyes at the weird collection of things lining the walls. Old photos of Kari were the focal point, but there were swords and other weaponry, maps, horse riding gear, baking pans, rolling pins and a huge pile of old books. Then Sam noticed the rest of the crew there to drink up the liquor. “Bucky, this is weird, even for Kari,” he whispered as he shook his head.
The men at the other end of the bar grew silent as a tall blond stepped out from the crowd. He had on a blue windbreaker, plaid shirt and khakis. “Where is your Steve Rogers?” he asked as he set down his glass.
“Who are…you aren’t Steve, are you?” Sam asked as he walked over. “You look nothing like our Steve. You actually look like an actor named Matt Damon. He was up for a movie based on Steve’s life, but he lost out on the role.”
“I never met anyone named Sam to pass the mantle to. And my Bucky died in 1944. Kari was with the OSS, and my plane crashed after Bucky died. I was thawed out a long time after that, and Kari and I got married. Angels were watching over us.”
Tumblr media
Bucky shot Sam a look, and then Sam got extremely animated as he glanced around the bar. “Hold up. You were all married to Kari? This Kari, I mean? Or some Kari from your own worlds? Where the hell is Wong when you need him?”
“She didn’t tell you guys jack shit?” Logan growled as he poured himself more whiskey. “Nathan, we have our work cut out for us. She told me everything over a long night of sake and katsudon in Okinawa. That was after she lopped the heads off a bunch of Purifier goons. Tucked them into her belt by their bloody collars as she went on cleaning that vermin up. She was amazing. Felt she had to tell me that night. Then we went and had sex in the broom closet there.”
“Wait for Cormac to get here, Logan,” Nathan grumbled. “It should be Cormac, right? Kari told me herself. I never had to deal with this when we fell in love. But then again, she didn't remember a lot of this stuff before we thought she died on that Sentinel hive ship.”
“This multiverse stuff is giving me a headache,” Bucky muttered as he pulled out his phone. “I’m calling her. Now.”
“Won’t work in here, bub,” Logan said as Bucky found his cell would not even light up at the moment.
“What kind of codename is Wolverine?” Sam asked as he turned back to Logan as he swirled the whiskey in his glass. “You don’t turn into one, do you? Like a werewolf.”
“I got it because of these,” he said as he extended his adamantium claws from his hands. “Government weapons experiment that built on the Super Soldier program in my world. I’m a member of the X-Men. Nate is in his world. Runs an outfit called X-Force. And Steve there gave up his Avengers spot to be one in his world, too. You ain’t got them here, I guess?”
“Not even close,” Bucky replied as Sam kept watching Logan as he retracted his claws. “Who else is here? Galen Sun was our Kari’s first husband, and Thomas O’Malley was her second. She told me about them one night after a mission. That night after the Flag Smasher mess, Sam.”
“We are the constants in all worlds, it seems, and you can call me Thom,” a tall, dark haired Brit in a gray suit from the 1850s said as he walked over. “Galen was a druid knight from Camelot, and I was a detective for Scotland Yard. There appear to be versions of us in almost all her stories. The rest of you? A tengu warlord in one world, you four in your respective times. All thanks to Merlin and his grand plan to save creation.”
“After my death, or I would have killed him,” Galen noted as he set down a tankard of ale on the bar. Galen was as tall as Thomas, but he was much more muscular. His beard was short, and his chestnut hair hung down his back. A sword remained in a scabbard at his side.
“And I would have helped you,” a tall Japanese man in a kimono said as he stepped forward. “Ryu Harada, tengu warlord in a land where Kari’s father went insane and killed millions in the name of keeping magic bloodlines pure. Merlin was long dead when I met Kari, but if he had not been, I would have thrown him into the pits of Hell for what he did. It is something that is played out or remembered as having happened by all Karis it seems, and it is a nightmare.”
“Merlin is real?” Sam sputtered as he sat back down next to Bucky. “She wasn’t kidding when she said her life was a mess. And I thought that stuff about Henry VIII was crazy!”
“Wait. What do you mean save all of creation?” Bucky asked as he looked at Thom. “I have no clue what that means. Kari…she keeps things to herself. A lot.”
“Do you want the story about her birthing an army, or the one where Merlin was afraid her grandma would use her to take over the world?” Nathan asked as he turned to see if anyone else was joining the party. “We all get slightly different versions of the tale, depending on our Kari. We all agree Merlin did things he shouldn’t have where Kari is concerned.”
“Wait. Birthing an army? She doesn’t have kids,” Sam noted as Logan laughed. “Not here anyway.”
“Nate’s Kari has how many kids? Three with you, and ones from other worlds that had their Karis die. And one or two with my counterpart in your world, I think you said when you got here,” Logan added as Cable nodded his head. “None with me, and a couple in my world from Galen Sun’s time. One from Thom’s alternate in my world. And a bunch of kids that she fostered or adopted along the way.”
“We adopted kids,” Steve said as he smiled. “Paul and Sarah. Paul’s parents were killed in an anti-mutant riot. One of my first times out with the X-Men. Or do you call mutants Witchbreed here? My Kari always gets very specific that Witchbreed should only be used for mutants with magic backgrounds, but not everyone else is that tied to the concept.”
“Mutant? Not a word in use here. And I have never heard her utter Witchbreed once,” Sam said as the door materialized behind him again, and the imposing figure of Cormac MacOrish, known as the Ravenheart, walked in. “Oh, great. Can we leave soon? Please. This makes no sense.”
“You going to say he looks like Russell Crowe?” Bucky asked as Cormac walked to the bar and got himself a tankard of ale. “Do you remember us, or was that another Cormac we saw that Christmas Eve back in 2016? You were all stuck in that mirror. Kari got pissed when your brother Donal started pulling pranks.”
“While there are other Cormacs, that was indeed me,” he replied as he walked back to Bucky’s table and sat down. “To cut to the chase, Merlin cast a spell to split my sister’s essence into fragments, and he sent her to the four winds. Part of her resides in many places in what you all call the multiverse. We have lost count on which ones are alive and which ones have returned their memories and powers to her. You mentioned Wong. We have been watching him and his fellow sorcerer Strange…and the one you call The Scarlet Witch…”
“You and the sibling party crew from that night, right?” Sam asked as Cormac nodded in agreement.
“And Wong and your Dr. Banner and their group of friends were alluding to all this when you met with them around Christmas or New Year’s this past year. Kari gets frightened. The Goddess sometimes shields her a bit too much. My sister and The Morrigan both know that if the last of her fragments comes back to her that everyone could be in danger. With your Scarlet Witch causing problems during that fight…”
“Kari doesn’t blame Wanda,” Bucky replied as he poured more whiskey into his glass. “It was that crazy woman who started the fight with Wanda that messed things up. Wanda was hurting…”
“And because your friend Wanda was in pain, my sister pulled that pain into herself. She is an empath by birth, Sergeant Barnes, and at times she cannot help it,” Cormac said as he rolled his eyes and slammed his tankard down. “Do you love her? Because if you don’t, you should end this charade now.”
“You always ask the same question, Mac,” Logan chuckled as he lit another stogie. “If he didn’t, the invite would never have gotten to him, and you know it, bub. The better question is, Bucky, have you two actually said it to each other? Or better yet, have ya knocked boots?”
“New Year’s Eve, but not the actual words,” Bucky said as Sam smacked his forehead. “And not that it is any of your business, but no to that second question. We haven’t exactly been in the same place at the same time due to missions.”
“It’ll do,” Logan replied as he shook his head. “Took me years. Trust me. She can be stubborn.”
Sam started to look around the bar as Cormac kept grilling Bucky. “Hold up. These old books? Are they all about Kari? And who is Devnet Casey?”
“Devnet was a friend of Kari’s back in Camelot,” Galen said as he walked over and picked up the first book on the pile. “My sister Enya, Devnet and Kari were thick as thieves. Does this world not have either of them any longer? You are the poorer for it if that is so.”
“You are asking the wrong man,” Sam replied as he looked at Galen before hefting the book into his hands. “As Buck said, Kari plays things close to the vest most of the time,” he added as he started thumbing through the tome. “Wait. Buck, these books really are all about Kari. We need Wong, Bruce and Thor’s friend Darcy Lewis to take a look at these. Can we take these with us?”
Bucky groaned as he saw Sam set the first book down and pull out the next. “Wait. World War II? This one’s yours, Buck. So, that’s Dum Dum Dugan and his stupid bowler hat?”
“So what exactly happens now? Besides Sam playing historian over there? And does this stupid knife mean anything?” Bucky grumbled as he tried to get his phone to work again. “Great. Can’t show you the picture.”
“The one you got freaked about in Madripoor?” Sam asked as Bucky nodded. “It is about this big,” he said as he held out his hands to indicate the size, “and it has emeralds on it. It looks weird, and it scares both of them. And Freaky Magoo there doesn’t scare easily. Do any of you have paper and a pen?”
“We both got stabbed with it during a fight in 1991,” Bucky said as he hung his head. “I stabbed her in the heart. She just missed mine.”
“Here,” Cable said as he handed Sam a pad and pen from behind the bar, and Wilson started to sketch the emerald-studded hilt and blade with gold and emerald markings on it. Sam walked it over to Bucky and Cormac so they could look at it.
“In my world, our Logan stabbed her through the heart with his claws, and she was reborn after that fight,” Nathan said as Sam turned and stared at him in seeming disbelief.
"You mean like Doctor Who?" Sam asked as Nathan looked at him quizzically. "That golden light stuff?"
“That part will get you even more confused," Nathan replied, "so I’ll hold off on that for now. But if you both got stabbed, Bucky, I’ll bet you are connected in ways she doesn’t even understand. You’re lucky she didn’t kill you. I’m guessing you aren’t immortal.”
“No, not immortal. Super soldier, so not easy to kill, but I can die,” Bucky said as he exhaled slowly. “So, you are saying our Kari is only part of herself? Is that why she acts so weird sometimes? Looks lost in thought? Glazes over?”
“The main part is here, and the fragments are elsewhere. Or that’s what we think now anyway,” Cormac said as he looked back at the men around the bar. “We don’t understand exactly what Merlin did. We just know we can’t undo it.”
Cormac got up from the table and looked at the others around the room. Not all of the men connected to Kari were there, and he seemed a bit upset because of that. “To us she is just Kari. Not some means to an end. Not a bartering chip in the history of the universe. She is my sister. She is your friend or your great love. And she was ours before she was yours, gentlemen. Just…”
{{Make sure you protect her from herself}} Cormac’s voice said as Bucky and Sam were suddenly back outside the bar. As they turned, the façade vanished, only to be replaced by a boarded-up building.
“So, do we tell her what just happened? Or do you have a better idea, Buck? She is your gal, right?”
“She’s our partner, Sam, and my gal, yeah. And I have no idea what to do next.”
Sam grumbled as he turned back around, took one step and stubbed his toe on a box of books. “No way. They gave us the books! Maybe we can haul these to your apartment and start reading and figure out what the hell is going on.”
“I guess, but what if she figures out something is up?” Bucky said as he looked up and down the Brooklyn street for any sign of a cab, and then he turned back to Sam.
“Then maybe we make it a group project,” Sam replied as he flashed Bucky a big smile. “Maybe it’s time to get The Avengers back together, at least what’s left of the team. Bruce to start. And maybe Sarah.”
“Sarah?” Bucky asked as Sam nodded. “Why rope Sarah into this mess?”
“Because Sarah is smart, and unlike the two of us, she might be able to keep Kari from freaking out. So, your place then?”
“Yeah, my place. But I didn’t tell you. I got a cat,” Bucky added as they finally flagged down a yellow cab and headed back to his apartment. “Her name is Alpine,” he continued as both men loaded the books into the trunk and then got into the back seat.
“Was it Kari’s idea?”
“Maybe,” Bucky replied with a slight smirk.

How would you rate Marvel and DC's showings at SDCC?
Marvel was great. DC was terrible. I should be at the point now where I don't let that bother me as it's been the case ever since BvS, but damnit I'm not happy with the state of DC outside the Trinity.

Running down the list for Marvel:
Comics - Obviously the big news is Hickman writing a "Sandman" for Marvel. My guess is it's either a Dr. Strange book, or a book focused on the Marvel Abstracts (Death, Order, Chaos, the Living Tribunal, etc). Of course I will be picking that up Day 1. Otherwise the Tradd Moore Dr. Strange book sounds interesting, I'm hopeful that the new F4 creative team will come out guns blazing, Aaron is finally off Avengers but we don't know what's next for him, there's going to be a "Cold War" Captain America event featuring Steve and Sam, Cantwell is leaving Iron Man with issue 25, and he's doing a Namor book and another book where Osborn will be a hero going by the moniker "Gold Goblin". Krakoa will last until 2024 at least which is when they might start entering the second act of Hickman's plan. None of the Spider-Man teases interested me.
Animation - Goddamn but that Spider-Man cartoon sure interests me! Gorgeous art style, finally a Marvel cartoon with an actual budget again. They say it's set in the MCU but that can't be true. You've got Norman and Otto showing up here which would outright contradict No Way Home, and Peter gets a classic costume. I assume this is set in the "MCU Multiverse" like the What-If series, on a different Earth. Can't wait to watch, would be nice if we could have great Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man cartoons all running simultaneously like the 90s again. Never seen the X-Men 90s cartoon but maybe I'll go watch that and check out the revival.
Film/TV - Aside from Spider-Man, Blade, and F4 I don't have any interest in the upcoming Marvel slate. Maybe I'll go see the Avengers movies but right now I'm scaling back. Hot damn did this show the confidence invested in Feige all the same, even coming off of the worst Marvel Phase yet he still is able to get people excited over a bunch of logos. That Wakanda Forever trailer was beautiful but I can't help feeling bitter over what it means for T'Challa.

For DC
Comics - Williamson's big "reveal" only elicited eye rolls and groans from what I've seen. Nobody cares about infinite Earths when you can't even put out books featuring anyone but the Bats. Aside from two Static books and a YA Superman book, EVERYTHING else was Batman related. I get that DC likely wants to hold back on revealing what's coming in 2023 until we're deeper into Dark Crisis, but it's painful to see how small the DCU has shrunk compared to Marvel. They're not even trying right now.
Animation - The only interesting reveal was the 2023 DTV lineup of JL/RWYB, Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham, Legion of Superheroes, and JL: Warworld. Only Legion and Warworld caught my eye, not a RWYB fan, and DtctG's main appeal is the Mignola art which I doubt they can afford to replicate. Other two seem to be the Tomorowverse movies, and both are likely going to star Superman in a lead role given Legion has his symbol in the promo and Warworld is self-explanatory. That takes the sting out of him not getting his own solo movie for his 85th at least. Ideally Legion would be an adaption of the Johns/Frank Superman & the Legion of Superheroes arc, and Warworld would be an adaption of PKJ's Warworld Saga, with the League replacing the Authority, but it's just as likely they will be original stories. Guess the rumors of a CoIE trilogy were false, no matter I'm not a huge fan of that story anyway. Edit: Looks like the Legion story is going to be Superman introducing Supergirl to the team, that could still be fun although I hope Clark is more involved than just passing her off to them and disappearing.
Film - Shazam 2 looks funny but I expect it to be another modest success. Black Adam looks cool but everyone was hoping the rumor Cavill would show up was true, and weren't happy when it didn't happen. Deadline wouldn't usually report "buzz" if there wasn't at least plausible cause but this time they looked like fools. Cavill and WB have been playing a game of chicken for five years and I'm tired of it. If you're seriously going to let the Rock put a post credit scene in BA that sets up a showdown with Superman, fucking get a Superman. Either give Cavill another solo movie like he wants or recast the role, because Cavill is not going to blink. Damn if WB doesn't look sad right now, can't even promote their 2023 movies because of the Miller and Heard controversies, never mind talking about the future.
DC got bodied this year. Speculation that they're saving reveals for Fandome feel far fetched to me given A. the likelihood that there are changes to the slate coming because of the restructure and Hamada's likely departure, and B. last year they announced a date for Fandome in April and it's almost August now. I don't think we'll get a Fandome this year because everyone is waiting for Zaslav to pick his new DC head and then they'll be the one to start greenlighting pitches. Five years since Snyder got kicked out and DC is still a mess. What a waste.
