About Poison Ivy and Count Vertigo

Hi, hello, I’m not dead, I’ve just been incredibly busy and kind of taking a break from social media in general. Currently on a MASSIVE DC Comics kick and there’s one particular topic that I’ve seen some HORRENDOUS takes about on here, so let’s discuss.

I never thought I’d be saying this, but CONTENT WARNING: I’m unfortunately going to be discussing topics related to rape and sexual assault below the cut. If that ain’t your cup of tea, I completely understand, and you’re free to scroll away now. TLDR if you don’t wanna read the whole thing: I’ve seen people accuse Poison Ivy of raping Count Vertigo just because she brainwashed him. These people have clearly never read the comic in question, and I’m sick and tired of this misinformation being spread around.

Okay? Okay, let’s do this.

So, it shouldn’t suprise anyone that Poison Ivy is probably one of my favorite DC characters of all time. I mean, I consider her to be one of my first gay awakenings (the others were Darcy from Winx Club and Emma Frost from Wolverine and the X-Men, if you’re wondering). So, when I see people accuse Ivy of being a full-blown RAPIST, I’m obviously gonna be upset.

Now, me being a simp is not clouding my judgement in this case. When I first saw people making this claim, I tried my dammdest to put my bias to the side and figure out what the hell these people were talking about. Lo and behold, I find out that it’s complete BS.

This particular claim stems from John Ostrander’s run on Suicide Squad starting back in 1987. I’m specifically referring to issue #45. This section on Count Vertigo’s Wikipedia page explains what went down infinitely better than I could, so I’m just gonna quote it here:

“He would later come to join the Suicide Squad in exchange for a shortened prison sentence, and it was revealed that he was plagued by bipolar disorder. After the Suicide Squad disbanded for the first time, Count Vertigo was captured by Vlatavan rebels, who wished to use his powers to overthrow the current Vlatavan government. They used a variety of drugs on him, each with a differing effect on the Count, as he would for example suddenly see himself as an Angel of Vengeance, sent to wreak havoc on the current rulers. Although he largely believed himself master of his own will, his mood swings were completely subject to his captors.

He was captured by Poison Ivy when the Suicide Squad came in and resolved the conflict and Kaligari (then-ruler of Vlatava) was murdered. Count Vertigo was Poison Ivy's slave for a long period of time, during which he grew to hate Poison Ivy and frequently threatened to kill her when he was free of her control. Amanda Waller was able to free Vertigo of her control so that he could stop a group of missiles hitting Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem at the behest of the villain Kobra. If the Dome had been destroyed, innocent lives would have been lost in a resulting war.

Vertigo succeeded, and it turned out that as he went into rehab and expunged the chemicals that had been pumped into his body by both Ivy and the rebels, that he was unwittingly cured of the disorder that had plagued him for so long.”

I’d also like to point out this snippet:

“Vertigo also resolved his grudge with Poison Ivy. During the War of the Gods crossover, he was perfectly willing to let her die when he found her abandoned on an Amazonian island; ironically, she was bound and promised whoever freed her, her undying devotion. Snickering snidely, Vertigo left her to die in the ruins of the collapsing temple they were in. Still, Ivy was saved, and Count Vertigo would later reluctantly work alongside her in the Suicide Squad, leaving their grudge be.”

Now, what does this have to do with Ivy allegedly being a rapist? Well, I’ve seen multiple people on here claim that Ivy raped Count Vertigo when she brainwashed him. To be quite blunt, this couldn’t be further from the truth. There is no, and I mean NO instances of Ivy raping or assaulting Count Vertigo. The worst thing she does is have him do things for her. That’s it. No overly sexual stuff in there at all. Here, take some pages that (hopefully) prove my point:

So, tell me why I’m seeing people say stuff like this (these were all taken from @super-hero-confessions btw. No hate to that blog, and I’m sorry y’all got caught in the crossfire on this one):

“IT ANNOYS ME WHEN PEOPLE SAY JOKER SHOULDN'T BE GAY BECAUSE HE'S DONE BAD THINGS. POISON IVY IS A RAPIST AND A SERIAL KILLER AND NO ONE COMPLAINS ABOUT HER BEING LGBT? WHY CAN'T JOKER BE?”

Now, I’m saying all of this in relation to Count Vertigo. If there’s any ACTUAL instances of Ivy raping someone, feel free to let me know. HOWEVER, if you’re going to do that, I want you to cite the actual comic where it happens. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in college, it’s that you should never make a claim if you can’t back it up with an actual source.

That being said, I think the idea of Ivy and Vertigo being a couple is really funny, and I’m absolutely down to write a fanfiction addressing all of this stuff if anyone’s interested. I may be a shitty fiction writer, but dammit, I’m willing to try.

Anyway, stop calling Ivy a rapist. Sure, she does stuff that crosses a line on occassion, but she’s a villain. I’m pretty sure they all do that.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go listen to some Precure OST’s to cleanse my mind of this absolute nonsense.

Solar Opposites: Mighty Solars The Movie Ch. 11

The next day, Miss Frankie is heading towards the metal detectors so she can take out anything magnetic. Then suddenly…

Miss Frankie: Wh-what’s happening to me?!

Miss Frankie suddenly gets metal claws

Police Officer: Holy shit!

Miss Frankie accidentally stabbed the guard as she screams in horror. Next, Principal Cooke was about to head into the lounge to get coffee until suddenly he blazed there.

Principal Cooke: Woah.

Then, Ms. Perez starts writing on her board until the power goes and she starts glowing, much to her shock. Mia was getting coffee until she can through the wall with her eyes.

Mia: What the fuck?

Later, Kevin was gettiing mail, until he digitals in the house, much to his shock as he faints. Then, Randall is staring at a Blackhole, that he actually created.

Randall: Wow...

Then, Darcy is putting their own mug until she creates a Star blast as she gasp. Then, Jamie was reading a book, until suddenly he is on fire.

Jamie: FUUUUUUUUCK! I’M ON FIRE!

Darcy: gasps Jamie!

Jamie heads outside and drop and roll, only to realize he is unharmed. Finally, Sherbet is at a Junior job at a sweets parlor, until suddenly her hands starts fizzing grape soda.

Sherbet: Huh? suddenly summons scotch mints Oh fuck! Everyone take cover!

Sherbet then accidentally combine the scotch mints as it makes a huge delicious explosion. Everyone is splattered in a mess. Sherbet looks at everyone in a nervous regret and runs off in a fast pace. Later, the humans starts panicking once they meet up with each other.

Jamie: What is going on?!

Miss Frankie: I don’t know! I got Wolverine claws but it wasn’t Yumyulack and Jesse this time and Perez can glow, Cooke can blaze and Mia has x-ray vision!

Ms. Perez: Okay okay everyone calm down.

Kevin: Well what do we do?! You’re not the only ones! I had powers like the movie Tron, Jamie is like a human torch, Darcy has Star powers, Randall can summon black hole and this kid here has powers based on desserts. We need a plan guys!

???: offscreen I have one.

The humans turn and sees the two hooded persons.

??? #1: How about we train you guys? To control your powers?

Sherbet: How?

??? #2: It’s okay. We’re friends. We have a training course. Come on.

Principal Cooke: You are? Huh, I think that’s good idea. What do you guys think?

Miss Frankie: I say...let's do it!

The Rest: Yeah. Seems a bit shady but I’ll take it. Great idea. Let’s trust them.

The scene then cuts to the training course.

Sherbet: Wow. That’s big.

Principal Cooke: I know right?!

Randall: So… when do we start?

Cue the song, “Untraveled Road” from Thousand Foot Krunch:

The humans put on training suits.

Miss Frankie: I look ridiculous.

Darcy: I think you look nice.

Jamie: I know you always look pretty, Darcy.

Darcy: Aw. Thanks boo. kisses Jamie on the cheek

???: Okay! Guys, it’s time!

??? #2: Get ready!

The training montage starts. Miss Frankie starts balancing. Principal Cooke is climbing up while dodging wrecking balls as he yelps. Sherbet is meditating with cotton candy color lights flashing. Jamie busy doing twirls to keep his fire powers balance. Kevin is doing electronic tennis while trying to dodge balls.

Kevin: Oh shit! dodges balls Fuck fuck fuck! Aaaah!

Randall is busy trying to use his black holes right. Mia is using her eye vision to see through the right stuff. Ms. Perez is busy concentrating on her glowing powers. Soon, enough as the training progress, the humans’ powers abilities starts to feel controlled as they starts to get the hang of it. The scene then cuts to Darcy doing gymnastic right and suddenly recieved a super suit of her own. Jamie blushes.

Darcy/???: Wow! I look rocking awesome guys!

Soon enough, each of the humans receive their own suits one by one as the training montage ends. The other humans grow amazed by this suits.

Sherbet/???: So, how do I look?

Randall/???: You look awesome!

Ms. Perez/???: I always knew look the sun.

Miss Frankie/???: Pretty great! Ooh, we should tell Korvo and the others about this later! They will be surprised!

We then cut to the Solars' house where AISHA is working and is worried about Korvo.

AISHA: to herself Oh man, how am I gonna tell the family? I don’t think I should do this. If I tell them, I’ll break their hearts. They are so happy with Sonya. I can’t destroy it…

Korvo: offscreen AISHA? Is everything alright?

AISHA turns around and sighs happily.

AISHA: Yes. Everything is fine…

Korvo: Thanks. I’ll leave you to it.. leaves

“What Was I Made For” from China Ann McClain plays in the background:

AISHA then flashes back to the good times she has with Korvo and his family throughout their lives. AISHA sheds a tear, when suddenly she hears something digitalizing.

AISHA: What the hell?

Then, MAX appears while laughing as AISHA screams and backs away.

AISHA: MAX?!

MAX: Hey, AISHA!

MAX hugs AISHA. Then she sees the family staring in shock.

Yumyulack: AISHA, is that another you?

AISHA laughs nervously.

Korvo: MAX?! What are you doing here?!

MAX: Korvo?! What’s up?! Your sister sent me here to keep on eye on you guys with AISHA. sees Sonya Who’s this kid?

Terry: Wait. You know the purple guy?

Korvo: Yeah. He’s a prototype my sister made back in Shlorp. gasp as he smiles in tears Oh my God! She’s here?! What did she say?!

MAX: Well, she wanted me to tell you-

AISHA gasp and covers MAX’s mouth.

AISHA: laughs nervously MAX, a word in private?!

AISHA sighs.

AISHA: MAX, we can’t tell them. Because we do, Korvo will die…

MAX: Die? He's already going to die without the spirit!

AISHA: I know! But if we tell them, they’ll be heartbroken… they have a new daughter now… we don’t wanna risk ruining their happiness…

MAX: But...

MAX then realize how serious AISHA is right now as he looks at AISHA sighing sadly.

MAX: Okay. But you must promise me we can tell him when the time is right.

AISHA: Of course MAX. We will tell them when the time is right. God, what have I done? I think I did the wrong thing MAX. Think about how Terry and the kids will react.

MAX: What do you think will happen?

AISHA: I think they’ll be crush if they find out. Mostly Terry. Korvo is his whole world… But I don’t think Janiz won’t like if we tell her we couldn’t tell them. She’ll be heartbroken if I don’t…

AISHA starts crying.

MAX: Hey come on… dries AISHA’s tears It’ll be okay… AISHA smiles

Korvo: offscreen AISHA?

AISHA sees Korvo smiling at her.

MAX: Don’t worry Korvo, I was really gonna say, your sister hopes to see you again. When it’s the right time.

Korvo tearfully smiles and hugs MAX.

Korvo: I'm glad you're back...

MAX smiles. The scene cuts to the hooded figure saddened as MAX tells her what happened.

MAX: So they have a new daughter… and Korvo never felt happy before… we couldn’t risk telling him.

??? #1: Oh God...

??? #2: But, he’ll die if he doesn’t know.

MAX: I know. But AISHA doesn't want Terry to be heartbroken...

MAX sighs sadly.

MAX: Even their kids too… and Phoebe… and their friends…

The hooded figure cries.

??? #1: This is all my fault… I should’ve told Korvo before Shlorp exploded… sniffles I have to go after him. It’s the only way I can make up for not being there for him when he needed me.

The hooded figure then removes their hood.

X-Men Mission: A vs X: Fred Duncan contacts Garrison to let him know that the Avengers have been brainwashed somehow and are targeting SHIELD and that the X-Men are needed to prevent a bloodbath; Garrison emails Marie-Ange and Amanda for magic-type help investigating the cause of the situation in the Mid-West; in New York, the site of the Triskelion building, Dominion and Rogue encounter the Hulk; Wolverine and Cyclops face Captain America and Black Widow; Bevatron and Dust counter Hawkeye and Deathlok on the roof; Synch and Marvel Girl take on two of the fliers, Falcon and Vision; the Sub-Mariner and Firestar get the other two fliers, Iron Man and War Machine; Blink and Bruiser find themselves facing an insane ‘god’ in the form of Thor and Blink teleports him away; in Minnestoa, the SWORD team and its consultants, Tarot, Daytripper, Dagger and Topaz, land at the site of the Asgardian portal the Avengers had been investigating; Dominion jumps in to help Wolverine against Captain America and Black Widow as Cyclops is forced to switch teams and manages to take down Captain America before Widow knocks him out with her sting; Marvel Girl takes Dominion’s place against the Hulk and they manage to hold him to a standstill, but that’s all; Dust moves to assist Synch against Falcon and the Vision and together they defeat the Falcon and while Synch takes him for medical aid, Dust faces the Vision; Hawkeye critically injures Firestar, so while Blink takes her back to the Blackbird for medical treatment, Cyclops steps in the help the Sub-mariner against the Iron-Men and manage to subdue War Machine; Sharon F.treats Firestar while Longshot provides protection against Hawkeye and buys some breathing room; Thor returns from wherever Blink sent him to and attacks Bruiser and Bevetron; Sharon F.has another patient - War Machine - but with Iron Man trying to kill them, joins Longshot in fighting him off; Rogue defends Dominion from Black Widow despite being in bad shape after the Hulk; Wolverine takes Rogue’s place against the Hulk and between him and Marvel Girl, they manage to wear him down enough for a mind-whammy; Dust finds herself fighting the Vision alone and manages to distract him from his rampage; the Sub-mariner switches places with Bruiser against Thor and the sniping between the two myths gives Bevetron a chance to catch his breath; Synch joins Blink against Deathlok and Hawkeye and things get brutal before Blink teleports them away; in Minnesota, SWORD and the magic team discover the portal is just an illusion and set off a second booby trap - an ice giant - which they go all-out in battling before disrupting the norn stones maintaining the brainwashing spell; Cyclops and Bruiser are battling Iron Man when the spell is broken and all of the Avengers stand down; the X-Men quietly leave the scene while SHIELD treats the Avengers.

Obwohl es ⁢herausfordernd war, habe‌ ich es geschafft, drei einzigartige Namen für⁤ meine ‍tierischen Freunde ⁣zu finden. Hier sind einige meiner Lieblingsideen: 1. ‍"Die Knuddelbande": Für mein Trio von niedlichen Meerschweinchen⁣ fand ich diesen Namen einfach‍ perfekt! Sie sind unglaublich⁤ verspielt und kuscheln⁤ gerne miteinander. Mit ihren flauschigen Bäuchen und der knuffigen Art haben sie diesen Namen wirklich verdient. 2.
