Carol Danvers x teen!reader - the whole universe

Could you please do the prompt #2 of your Winter list ? Carol Danvers x teen (sister or not) reader. In which like the reader has a sickness or something and Carol like rarely visit her (due to being in space) and like she's here for Christmas Eve and it's like a sweet reunion as a Christmas Gift at midnight or something if it's okay? 2: “Why are you here?” “Because it’s Christmas Eve.” “So you came to the hospital?” “Well, you’re here, so of course I did.”

Sitting cross legged on your bed, you yawned a little, rubbing your eyes as you looked up from the laptop in front of you.

A few nurses were going by talking to one another, they offered you a small wave as they passed by and you went back to the video you were watching.

It made you smile seeing all the stars as if you were really there with them, the infinite blackness full of suns and planet and galaxies that you had never seen before.

And you restarted it for the tenth time to watch through it once more, feeling like you were right there among them.

It was your favourite thing to do.

“Hey sweetheart, you ready for your MRI?”

You glanced up at the doctor at held up your hand, turning your attention back to the video.

Walking over, Doctor Hughs sat down next to you, looking at the laptop and he smiled a little bit.

“She’s still sending them?”

You nodded.

“Yeah, she sends me a new one every week, but she hasn’t sent me one this week..”

“Hey, there’s still time. Now come on, we don’t want to make you anymore late than you already are.”

Hugh’s took the laptop from you, setting it aside and he stood up, holding his hands out to you.

You let him help you up, and you shuffled over to the wheelchair, gesturing for him to sit in it making him laugh.

“No, you sit in it, I push, that’s the rules.”

“Come on, I just wanna walk!”

“Then you can walk, but I’m not sitting in your chair.”

Shrugging a little bit, you slowly made your way out of the room and he followed, picking up your chart along the way to the MRI.

It wasn’t hard for you to lay there, you just closed your eyes and you pictured that you were in the stars, travelling like you had always wanted too.

Making your way back to your room, you laid down on your bed, letting out a small grumble as you tried to relax a little.

Rolling on your side, you placed an arm under your head, letting the exhaustion of the day take over.

You couldn’t sleep for long, and you soon enough woke up.

Sitting up, you rubbed your eyes and you swung your legs over the edge of your bed.

“Now, I remember correctly you’re supposed to be asleep.”

You looked up to the doorway and you smiled a little bit, pushing yourself up so you could grab your hoodie and you pulled it on.

“You came…”

Carol smiled, walking over she gently hugged you carefully, mindful that she didn’t hurt you and you hugged her back.

Pulling away, you took her hand.

“Can we go outside Carol?”

She smiled softly at you.

“Yeah, of course we can kiddo, yeah. Here, hold on a second.”

Carol let go, and walked across the room.

Grabbing a blanket she wrapped it around your shoulders and then held her arm out for you so you could support yourself while walking.

You both walked over to the elevator, and you leant against the wall, using it to support yourself.

Carol looked at you and she frowned.

“I’ll get you a wheelchair before we go out, and get somebody to look you over to make sure it’s okay for you to go outside.”

“No… please I want to go outside…”

Carol looked at you and sighed softly, nodding her head.

“Alright kiddo, okay. But you’ll tell me if you need to sit down, or come back inside?” She asked.

You nodded.

Carol didn’t seem convinced, but she helped you outside, supporting you on the icy path.

You grabbed on her arm and she smiled at you.

“If you fall you’ll break a bone.”

“You wouldn’t let me fall.” You grinned.

Laughing softly, she turned around, holding out her hands and you held out your arms.

Carol carefully took your arms, and she slowly walked backwards, pulling you across the ice.

You laughed, and she smiled softly.

This was the most fun that you had been able to have in weeks with not being able to leave the hospital.

Carefully, Carol moved you from the ice, and she sat you down on a bench when you showed signs of being in pain.

“You’re alright?” She asked.

You nodded, leaning back so you could look at the cloudy skies.

“Why are you here?” You asked quietly.

Carol smiled softly at you, looking at you.

“Because it’s Christmas Eve.”

You turned your head to her, furrowing your brows a little bit.

“So you came to the hospital?”

Carol laughed.

“Well, you’re here, so of course I did.”

You smiled, turning your head back to the sky.

“Do you think I can see the stars in person some day…?”

Carol copied you, looking back at the stars and she took a small breath.

“Well, you’ve got to get better first, but yeah. When you get better, and you’re not sick anymore I’ll bring you with me.”

“Why?”

“Because I made a promise to you and you parents I was going to look after you, and that’s what I’m going to do.”

“I hope I can see the stars one day…”

Carol reached out, taking your hand and gave it a small squeeze.

“You will I promise you, you’re going to get better. But for now, we’re going to play in the snow, then go inside, we’re going to open presents, and watch movies, and make it the best Christmas, okay?”

You nodded your head, wrapping the blanket around your shoulder a little closer to your body.

You shivered, and Carol looked at you.

She knew you weren’t going to agree to go back inside, not yet, so she gave you her jacket as well to keep you warmer for a little longer.

You rested your head on her shoulder.

“You’re a good kid, you don’t deserve this…” she whispered.

“It’s okay… I’ve got you.. my non biological superhero sister…” you mumbled.

Carol smiled at you.

She could remember seeing you when you were a baby, and when she went missing she missed a lot of your life.

When she remembered again it’s when she found out you were sick, your parents were gone and you were living with Fury.

Now she cared for you, like a big sister should, she wanted to see you get better. She wanted to show you the stars and show you the beauty in space.

But for now, all she had to was make sure you got better, and that one day you would be well enough go with her.

Carol knew you had fallen asleep, and she carefully stood up, picking you up and she carried you back inside.

Setting you down on your bed, she covered you up and placed the back of her hand on your forehead.

“You’ll be okay…” she whispered.

Sitting down, she took your hand in hers and held it gently, picking up your chart so she could check on your progress.

She was going to find a way to make you better, because she couldn’t loose her little sibling, the person who meant so much to her. More more than the stars and galaxies and anything in the universe.

You were her whole world, and it broke her heart to know you were sick, and by the looks of it you weren’t getting better any time soon

Alex Danvers is on a routine follow up interview when she receives a text from an Officer Sanchez. They've worked together, but Alex wouldn't have called them close. But when the message urges her to return to the station, she wraps up the interview quickly and drives back with her heart in her throat.

Thoughts of Kara hurt, arrested, or worse swirl in her mind, clouding all other reason. But when it's Lena Luthor she finds sitting in a corridor outside one of the interview rooms, Alex's stomach falls.

Kara has told her of Lena's return into her life, and a little of the circumstances that had prompted their reunion. At the sight of the bruising cut on Lena's cheek and the blood spattered across her blouse, Alex's concern bubbles into apprehension, quickening her pace down the hall.

"Lena?" she calls gently as she approaches. Lena gives no indication she hears Alex, her thousand-yard stare distant and unblinking. Alex crouches next to her, careful to avoid any sudden movements, and extends one hand to gently touch Lena's shoulder.

"Lena, hey..."

Finally, Lena jolts, blinking as her gaze flashes to Alex. After a moment, recognition seems to hit. "Alex..."

"Yeah, it's me." Alex retracts her hand from Lena's shoulder, and reaches for her wrist instead. Lena doesn't seem to feel it. "Are you okay?"

Lena's gaze bounces from place to place, landing on Alex only briefly before flicking away. Alex's heart sinks: she knows trauma when she sees it.

"What do you need?" she asks instead.

Blinking, Lena seems to reach for her voice. "Kara... I don't know-- my phone..."

Alex nods swiftly. "Okay, yeah. I'll give her a call." Lena's own phone is likely already in evidence, or else sequestered at the crime scene for processing.

Lena swallows thickly. "Thank you."

"You're welcome," Alex offers with a gentle smile. She points her thumb over her shoulder. "I'm going to go let Kara know you're here, okay? But I'll stay within view if you need anything okay?"

Lena nods faintly. Giving her wrist a squeeze before pulling away, Alex rises to her feet, already pulling out her cell.

It takes Kara less than thirty minutes to get to the station. Alex hangs back as her sister all but runs to where Lena sits, draped in a NCPD windbreaker. Kneeling directly in front of her friend, Kara ducks her head to catch Lena's gaze. Alex sees Kara's lips move.

"I'm here."

As Alex watches, Lena's chest visibly tightens. Her eyes glimmer with sudden tears, before her shoulders hitch in a quiet sob. Then she cracks completely.

All Alex can do is stand and watch as Lena leans forward into Kara's shoulder, and starts to cry.

Kara knows something has happened the moment Alex calls her in the middle of the day, but nothing can prepare her for the shock muting Lena's features when she arrives at the precinct. She takes in the gash on Lena's cheek, its edges held together with a couple of butterfly bandages, but knows there's too much blood splattered at the wrong angles on Lena's clothes for it to be hers.

"Oh, Lena," she says softly, crouching in front of her. She reaches up to brush her friend's cheek. She wants to ask what happened, to know what she needs to do to fix it. But deep down she knows that whatever it is, it's not something that can be fixed.

"I'm here," she says instead.

Lena's gaze focuses on her, and tears suddenly spring to vacant eyes. "He--" her breath catches. "He--"

She can't say it. Her features crumple, and the tears start to fall. Curling into herself, Lena starts to sob, her shoulders quaking in short, heaving breaths. Kara shifts closer, wrapping Lena in her arms.

"I'm here," she says again, becoming a mantra as her friend falls apart. "I'm here."

Looking at old blog posts, many years ago I did a "100 favorite female characters" list, but I have met so many wonderful new ladies now that it is quite out of date and needs a major update to accommodate them. International Women’s Day seems like the perfect time to do so!

Only this time I'm restricting it to TV characters, or I will die of Overwhelm.

#100 favorite female characters #quality data #more ambitious people than I would do gifsets or at least photosets about this but I am not that person #I have been wrestling with this for weeks and I think I'm finally happy with it but IDK #definitely still some I can see being replaced and that were arbitrary picks over women I like equally well and cut #RIP Community ladies but I realized I did not love them enough individually as opposed to part of an ensemble #especially after I was like 'Oh No i cannot possibly choose among the Abbott ladies' #same for the women of Bones #apologies to my Zoo family that Jamie did not make the cut either #encouraging my mutuals and other followers to do their own!!! #I know many of your faves but I am curious if and how you would ultimately narrow it to 100 #p.s. thank you to empress-of-snark for finding the illustrative gif I was looking for #p.p.s. last minute edit kicked Lizzie Maguire off and replaced her with Hetty because I finally caught up on Ghosts #and remembered she's AMAZING and also I have only seen like 3 actual episodes of Lizzie #p.p.p.s. NOPE removing Jenny Callender and Buffy too (sorry!) because I have not actively watched BtVS and I need the Big Sky ladies

ok spoilers ahead! but basically alex gets her memories back in the second to last episode of s4! kara gets into a massive fight and alex watches it happen powerless to do anything and her memories start coming back in flashes until eventually kara “dies” in front of her and she then remembers everything. the danvers sisters reunion scene in that episode is like one of my all time favorite moments of them

OH GOOD omg slow realizations are my absolute favorite, i just couldn’t get far enough during my first watch to get there

“In completely inappropriate ways, I’m sure,” Alex said from her spot to the right of Kara.

Kara blushed. “Of course not! I just wasn’t used to not using the powers anymore. People thought I was crazy, even though they know the yellow sun interacts without bodies differently than the light of the red sun. So many weird looks every time I tried. But, yeah, this is nice.” She tilted back a little and then shoved more curry in her face...

In a very roundabout, adhd sort of way a documentary about princess anne (and the opinion that she should have been heir to the throne instead of Charles) got me thinking about the fact that the royal family probably can't really have family reunions because having that many royals in one place could do irreparable harm to the line of succession, which got me thinking about a designated survivor type supercorp au where Lena was like, the cabinet member for the dept of education or something and a massive assassination plot leaves her unexpectedly assuming the role of president (with the Danvers sisters as heads of her secret service detail), which in turn got me thinking about another potential canon verse au where the royal family of a small country experiencing political unrest is all assassinated, and they have to trace a new heir through the distant branches of the family tree, leading them to Lena Luthor, CEO of L-Corp.

Now. I'm not sure if she'd be related to the royalty via her Luthor or her Walsh blood, but they do send emissaries to pay her a visit (which she puts off because her schedule is so full and "they'll have to wait their turn, Jess") until they eventually barge into someone else's meeting with her and-- apologizing profusely-- explain that the matter is most dire and cannot wait any longer.

Lena would obvs be stunned. But she'd also be sympathetic towards the plights of the people who have been victim to the violence that preceded her distant family's deaths. She hems and haws over it, but ultimately comes to the conclusion that she CAN do good there, even if she's only there temporarily, and therefore she SHOULD do good there.

Kara offers to go with her as protection, but Lena refuses, citing that Supergirl is needed more in National City, and besides-- helping a human monarchy regain power isn't a good look for an alien champion of earth. So Lena goes it alone.

For months the only things Kara sees of Lena are the news reports of Lena visiting colleges and schools and community centers and farms, winning affection and effecting change. She contributes to rebuilding efforts both directly and indirectly, and even parlays with the insurrectionists to hear their terms and move the country towards democracy.

And though Lena promises Kara that her work in her family's kingdom is only temporary, her stay lengthens and lengthens until suddenly it's been years and Lena still hasn't come home for good. Kara visits occasionally, when things are peaceful enough that there can be events where plus-ones are invited. But it's not the same.

Lena misses National City. She does. But at the same time she's found a part of herself here in her family's country, a part of her legacy. They may be moving towards democracy, but it will be decades, perhaps generations more before the monarchy is fully abolished. She doesn't know if she'll ever really be able to resume her old life again. Perhaps this is her new normal-- the life of a dignitary, a figurehead and a political powerhouse.

So she and Kara have to try and navigate a romance and a life where their roles have them pulled in two different directions. Especially when it comes time for Lena to secure a politically advantageous marriage to another royal/elite family.

Bonus: Lillian isn't dead, but it's post crisis so she isn't in prison, and when she hears that Lena is being bullied into a political marriage (especially a marriage where the husband would do all the political heavy lifting, relegating her to a consort, essentially), she looks her daughter in the eye and tells her "I didn't raise you to take second seat to anyone."

To which Lena pegs her with a glare. "Except for Lex?"

Lillian merely gives a coy smirk. "I always suspected you had the potential surpass your brother-- no matter how much I didn't want to believe it." She tilts her head. "And now that you have... don't squander that same potential by settling for whatever gilded lily they're foisting on you. YOU are queen. YOU decide the shape your future."

Lillian cups Lena's chin.

"You always have."
