Face to Face? 😀

So this is for this ask game, about coming up with a plot to write one scene.

Now Face to Face has a long story. I'm not entirely sure that there was a particular scene that inspired the whole thing but rather a series of ideas.

I'd say it started when I first started diving into DP phic. I managed to stumble onto a bunch of stories with split Danny, each from the ghost catcher or other methods. Most of these are incomplete, ending before the two halves re-fuse or they end up being pitch pearl. With reading all that, I ended up seeing a potential. I loved the idea of Danny being able to talk to himself in a new way and there’s a few stories where this is utilized, including one of my favorite DP stories ever, Take Pride in Your Humanity by  LunagaleMaster. Seriously, you guys can thank this story for the existence of Face to Face and my first multi-chapter Double Discovery. The characterization is so good and it made me realize exactly the kind of character work someone could do with split Danny.

From there, I think I read a really short oneshot where Danny told his parents about his powers in Mystery Meat and asked them about finding a way to get rid of his powers. Unfortunately, I can’t remember what this one was called but this writer had it in a collection with a reveal fic set during Parental Bonding as well, if anyone else had read this. And so I kinda put the idea together. What if Danny split himself before he even had an alter ego as Danny Phantom, before he really understood that he was half ghost? I played around with the idea for a long time but didn’t write anything down, just daydreamed about it. I wrote some other multi-chapter story ideas first and while I was working on “Hope Can Be A Heavy Thing to Hold,” saw this prompt by @danphanwritingprompts :

As originally planned, Danny tells his parents his secret post-breakfast during the events of Mystery Meat.

I knew my time had come. I just had to write down some of this idea and so this oneshot was made. I wrote what after some editing and addition scenes, ended up being the first chapter of Face to Face. And I got a really good response from it! A lot of people liked it and @hugthesquids even wrote this incredible continuation drabble! I was ecstatic; it sounded like people would actually like to read this! With some encouragement, I ended up typing up an outline for what I thought would come after that oneshot (this post here). At that point, I had a clear idea for what I wanted to happen until Fenton and Phantom reunited and figure out that they are the same person, which is what I wrote in the post.

I also had some ideas about stuff up to the reveal with Jack and Maddie and the finally ending of the story. In the early days of writing the phic, chapter 10, the really emotional scene where Fenton really realizes what exactly he did to himself and the two almost fuse for the first time, that was a monumental chapter that I was really looking forward to writing. So I had a clear idea for that, but what came after was more vague. Luckily, as I’ve written, the path leading from telling Jack and Maddie to the actual ending has solidified. I’ve known from the first chapter that this story would end with Danny accepting himself and being able to refuse. Heck, the first paragraph of the story implies that. So I’ve got a clear picture of that last chapter or two and have been eagerly awaiting writing it for literal years.

You know how ghosts and spirits tend to show up in pictures? What if Danny was the opposite? What if he was unable to show up in pictures in human form? Just vampire style.

So you got a Fenton family photo with a weird gap in the middle.

Or Sam has got her arm hung around thin air.

Getting his driver's license is a nightmare, until Danny decides to just get his license as Phantom.

Wes learns this is a major problem in his quest to expose the truth.

You won't find Danny Fenton anywhere in the school yearbook. In fact, you won't find evidence of another Fenton kid living at FentonWorks. Probably because there isn't.

Random fic idea that I may or may polish later: The GIW capture Danny, same old, same old. He's been there a long while, when an extreme situation, possibly a ghost attack the size of Pariah Dark and Dark Dan combined, arises. The GIW eventually manage to get their heads out of their asses and realise that Danny is the only one who could possibly stand a chance.

Now what? Do they beg him to save their undeserving behinds?

Do they try to control him into doing so?

Is Danny even capable of fighting someone of that calibre after the trauma he's gone through?

If he is, will he be willing to fight for a town that considers him dirt?

Or will he decide to join hands with the enemy to show everyone just why he's the most dangerous ghost around?

So uh, I just had a dream where Vlad took Danny when he was fairly young, in a mother Gothel like style, so Danny kinda sorta 'loves' him but is also unnervingly afraid of him.

So later on, Danny ends up being rescued by his friends (my dream didn't explain how they happened to know each other) and now Danny is hesitantly coming out of his shell. But in the back of his mind, he's still going 'oh no, Father will be so mad'. And deciding that he's gonna have to go back because the longer he stays away, the angrier Vlad will be, and he knows that Vlad will find him eventually.

Gradually though, he's getting comfortable being on his own. But then a ghost fight happens, and Danny sees how dangerous he is, something about ghost hunger that didn't make sense even in my dream, and because of previous psychological manipulation believes that he needs Vlad to keep him in check. So he morosely goes back to him.

For some reason Vlad's house's front wall was kinda reverse inclined or something, and there was a giant cactus just sitting there. I don't know.

Anyways, right outside the house, Danby finds Jazz talking to Vlad. Danny and Jazz now know they're siblings and Jazz knows the abusive environment Danny is stuck in, but she knows she can't fix it at the moment, so she's just sweet talking Vlad. Danny and Jazz hug before Jazz leaves.

I woke up before I could find what Vlad decides to do to him to 'punish' him or something.

So yeah, dunno if that made any sense but feel free to use it, I guess?
