Blake Ritson is cast in an upcoming 8-part adaptation series of Count of Monte Cristo as Danglars, one of the main antagonists. The series is currently in production and will air in 2024. Sam Claflin will be playing the main role of Edmond Dantès, and the internationally produced series is directed by Bille August.
Blake is also likely to appear (not fully confirmed yet) in season 2 of Interview with the Vampire as Morgan next year.
16 days to go till the premiere of season 2 (October 29) of The Gilded Age on HBO, starring Blake as Oscar Van Rhijn.
Danglars looked at the two men, one after the other, the one brutalized by liquor, the other overwhelmed with love. "I shall get nothing from these fools," he muttered; "and I am very much afraid of being here between a drunkard and a coward. Here's an envious fellow making himself boozy on wine when he ought to be nursing his wrath, and here is a fool who sees the woman he loves stolen from under his nose and takes on like a big baby. Yet this Catalan has eyes that glisten like those of the vengeful Spaniards, Sicilians, and Calabrians, and the other has fists big enough to crush an ox at one blow. Unquestionably, Edmond's star is in the ascendant, and he will marry the splendid girl—he will be
captain, too, and laugh at us all, unless"—a sinister smile passed over Danglars' lips—"unless I take a hand in the affair," he added.
I forgot just how much I love schemey!Danglars. He is so unnecessarily over the top, it's amazing.
He also feels really strongly like he just stepped out of a play. Like, several of the others feel like they could be in a play; Danglars feels like he belongs in one and just happens to be in a novel instead. The ways he is described moving I can almost see him onstage. And this line especially feels so very much like an aside to the audience that the other characters on stage with him cannot hear. It's pretty neat actually.
i wanna talk to whoever decided not to put this song on the english cast album. we could've had more of mark seibert as villefort. why would anyone do this
Finally actually working on an explanation post for the Prophet AU so while I’m working on that have a ship base with a bunch of my designs for it, the quality’s a bit rough since it’s on a much larger canvas
(@rowan-m-ravenwood I remembered we talked a bit about this AU a while ago-)
Blake being in the Monte Cristo series and not playing Edmond Dantes? We lost!
I agree he would have slayed it as Edmond, or Villefort for that matter, but I bet he'll bring lots of his own flair to Danglars, character. They've also said they'll explore the psychology of all the characters, so I think that sounds like they'll have a more complex take on the villains as well, especially in comparison to other adaptations.
"I? Have some reason to hate Dantes? None, I swear. I saw that you were unhappy and took an interest in your unhappiness, that's all. But if you are going to imagine that I am acting on my own behalf, then farewell, my good friend. You can manage for yourself." Here Danglars made as if to get up.
He's the biggest liar in the world oh my god.
"Nonsense, I'm not involved at all!" says Danglars as he pastes the DANTES SEASON sign to a nearby tree. "I'm offended you would even think that!" he continues, putting a hat on Fernand's head and a hunting rifle into his hands. "I like him just fine, now remember to aim carefully."
