I decided to make some character profiles for these guys to explain some characteristics and backstory. I've also decided to tag all of this as #rickcest poly au The text version of their profiles are under the Keep Reading
Miami Rick
Miami Rick became Morty's primary caretaker after a car accident killed the rest of the family. Morty was 2 years old when it happened.
Before he took care of Morty he was in contact with Beth, but he didn't live with the Smiths. Morty moved in with him in Miami after the accident.
Is extremely rich. Probably because of mafia-like activities. He also owns a lot of nightclubs, because he likes to party.
Officially Miami Rick is part of the Citadel, but he doesn't actually abide to their rules and doesn't live there either. He puts a lot funds in the city and he can pull that away for leverage, so the Council basically gives him free reign.
Comes and goes as he pleases in the Citadel cause Miami is a well-known Rick-fucker. He flirts with every Rick he meets and sleeps with them if he has their consent. They are always one night stands.
That is until he meets Cop Rick and he catches feelings.
Has a drug addiction instead of an alcohol addiction. He can smoke stuff that would kill a regular person.
Because of his knowledge of all kinds of drugs, he often uses them in battle.
Tuft Rick
Has Trauma™ (the anxiety has to come from somewhere)
He didn't marry his Diane, so he doesn't have an original Morty.
Got kidnapped in his twenties by a powerful alien after accidentally making contact while he was figuring out portal travel.
He was stuck in an abusive relationship with that alien, until he was rescued many decades later by Ricks from the Citadel.
Has been on the Citadel for about a decade as a guard and gets along well with his squad mates and Captain.
His squad mates are very protective of him, and vice versa. He's done a lot of physical training to protect himself and his friends. His favorite weapon is a pole arm, but he's skilled with many kinds of weaponry.
Got more trauma and fear as one of his squad mates and Captain got killed by Doofus Jerry. (Comic issues 22 & 23)
After that incident Tuft and his leftover squad mates planned to leave the Citadel. However they were found out and Tuft stayed behind to let his friends escape.
As punishment he isn't part of a squad anymore and is forced to take on jobs that other Ricks don't like or find too dangerous.
Cop Rick
Cop lost his original Morty in a past adventure. He doesn't like to talk about it.
The guilt made him flee to the Citadel. He never contacted his family about what happened.
Over there he wanted to become a cop so he could deliver justice to the Citadel, especially for Mortys.
Cop started to focus a lot on cold cases after killing his Morty partner. (s3 e7) A lot of Ricks are not interested in solving Morty murders or are blackmailed to ignore them.
After solving many of those cold cases Cop got put on a new investigation involving Morty murders. He met Miami during this case, cause one of the victims were found in one of his nightclubs. They ended up solving the investigation together.
During that case Cop started to get some feelings for Miami, but the guilt makes it hard to accept them, especially since Miami gets along with his Morty very well.
Can't get up in the morning without a cup of coffee.
He's made fun of by his colleagues for being kind and naive. But they are also jealous of his dedication and ability in solving the cold cases.

Hey, i see that your request are open, I could be wrong. Let me know if I am. I just wanted to tell you that I adore you writing.
Can I have a Wrecker X gn!reader on those trying times? I think it would be funny to see Wrecker TRYING to keep his relationship with his s/o a secret from his brothers. But it's Wrecker, they noticed right away.
Maybe because he suddenly doesn't have a problem going to the medic bay to treat his wounds. He starts to look for excuses to leave the ship or go alone to get the supplies. And the rest of the batch starts to get suspicious like...
Wrecker is trying to keep his armor clean now. HE looks more clean. Every time he goes to the medic bay he comes back with a stupid smile. They see him looking at the little plushies on the stores they pass by. He evens starts to ask Teach about flowers and wich ones are dangerous to humans (of course he gets bored midway).
The last straw is when one day they him trying to sneak back in the havoc with something behind his back. When they manage to get it from him they see its a packed lunch, it's so neat and sweet and they know Wrecker isn't the one who made it. So... was it?
(Sorry of its too much I got a little excited. It's my first time making a request and English is not my first language)
Stealth Wrecker, Remember?

Summary: The Batch slowly become suspicious of Wrecker's behaviour. As they uncover various hints, what they find out is not what they expected.
Warnings/Tags: fluff, no y/n mentions, pretty much lovey dove y cutesy wrecker stuff — tell me if I've missed anything!

Clone Force 99 shared countless missions and adventures together, known for their high success rate but also reckless tactics. Each clone abiding with their own skills, making them unique.
Wrecker, the big guy. He's the boisterous and carefree member of the team, known for his extreme strength and eagerness for battle or mission. However, something had changed for him. Instead of sleeping, eating or chatting, he seemed oddly preoccupied.
Lately, he's been finding excuses to leave the shuttle alone to head to the medbay more frequently.
"Wrecker, this is the 8th time you've had an 'injury' to deal with." Hunter's confused voice spoke. Wrecker once again blabbed an excuse for him to leave so abruptly.
"Yeah well- I get hurt a lot! Just visiting the place s'all." His excited tone of voice came through, doing his best to mask it with 'ows' or 'ouch'. You know, to fool his brothers.
Crosshair's eyebrow raised up, looking through his top eyelashes at his brother. Wrecker left hastily as if this visit to the medbay was an emergency. The group exchanged puzzled glances as they observed their brother's peculiar behavior.
Wrecker couldn't help but feel a strange flutter of anticipation in his chest as he happily skipped down the halls of the med wing. He had a secret, one that he had been keeping from the rest of the squad. He was head over heels and he couldn't wait to see you again.
He was eager to steal a few precious moments with you, his special someone.
"Hey beautiful." Wrecker's voice was quick to fill the quiet space of the medbay, watching as you tidied equipment. He stared for a bit before walking over to peer over your shoulder. He loved watching you work. He loved watching you do anything, really.
"Got another 'injury' for me?" You chuckled, looking up at his towering figure. Wrecker gave a cheeky grin, his playful nature shining through.
"Oh absolutely." The two of you laughed and chatted, finding solace in each other's company amidst the quiet hum of medical equipment.
Wrecker's gaze softened as he watched you talk about your day, captivated by your every word. You exchanged playful banter and shared tender moments, opening up to one another. He marveled at the shimmer in your eyes, even if it was just the reflection of the white medical lights.
He found himself wrapping his bulky arms around your waist, giving you a back hug as he gently rocked side to side whilst you fixed equipment. He followed you around like a puppy, craving attention.
He always made you smile, always made you laugh.
After a while, you had to go back to your shift to tend to other units of the GAR. As much as Wrecker despised leaving you, he'd make sure to come back again.
Skipping back to the Marauder, he couldn't get rid of the giddy smile on his face.
"How's your injury?" Echo said, his scomp whirring under the haul of the Marauder.
Wrecker grinned, "Oh she- it! Went well." Uh oh, a slip up. Echo was quick to sus out Wrecker's mistake, brushing it off since it could really just be a mistake. It's Wrecker after all.
-
The first sign that something was amiss was Wrecker's sudden interest in keeping his armour clean. Gone were the smudges of dirt and battle scars that were once his signature. Now, he regularly wiped down his armor, striving to maintain a pristine appearance after every mission.
His brothers couldn't help but raise their eyebrows at this newfound obsession with cleanliness.
His bunk, full of food scraps and his blacks hung up on the drying rack above his sheets were no longer. The burn marks and dents, fixed in a jiffy. He even repainted the prominent red stripes across his armour, the CF99 skull, and his artistic helmet.
With a grin, he proudly scrubbed down the filth that once covered his armour.
Once again, Wrecker pops in to visit the medbay with a small smile on his face. Then he would return to the barracks with a foolish grin. Ear to ear smile with teeth which didn't go unnoticed by his sharp-eyed brother, Crosshair - as well as the others.
Normally Wrecker would brush off minor injuries, refusing treatment since 'he was going to get hurt again anyway'. Now he was willingly seeking medical attention without complaint only because he got to see your beautiful face.
It was clear that something was lingering in the air and his brothers were determined to find out what.
-
"Tech, just wondering somethin'." Wrecker asked his intelligent brother.
"What is it?"
Wrecker cleared his throat, trying to sound nonchalant, "You know flowers, right? What one of those are dangerous or poisonous to people? What's the best one to keep as a house... flower?" He tried his best to cover up his eagerness about flowers.
"Well there are the simple ones. Roses, for instance, are generally safe. Their beauty lies in their petals, and they pose no direct threat. Sunflowers, with their large, cheerful heads, are harmless as well. Delicate daisies, tulips..."
Tech's voice faded out. Wrecker daydreamed, getting bored about his brothers rant. He only considered roses since those reminded them of you. He loved your rosy blush and the pink stud earrings you wore.
He imagined how your reaction to a gift of flowers would be or your reaction a small plushie he saw in the markets on a supply run. A small blush creeping onto his cheeks.
"...but it's crucial to approach unfamiliar flowers with caution, as many contain varying levels of toxicity." Tech finished his small explanation on flowers, finding Wrecker not paying an ounce of attention. He also brushed this off, used to the boredom. But he didn't brush off the suspicion of the sudden interest in flowers.
Wrecker wouldn't even consider smelling a flower in the first place.
Because it was only Tech and himself in the barracks - everyone else went on the supply run - he decided to give you another visit. Whilst Tech was distracted, the big guy snuck off to the medical wing in hopes to see your angel face once again.
Wrecker was off to the medical wing, delighted to see you. The rest of the Batch returned with food, new blacks, and cleaning equipment. Time to address the elephant that wasn't in the room anymore.
"Tech, where's Wrecker?" Echo asked his brother, who was slouched over his desk, tinkering.
He looked up, "Huh? Oh he was just-" Tech paused as he looked around, no Wrecker in sight, "-here."
"He keeps disappearing." Hunter shook his head, placing the new supplies on the couch.
-
As days turned into weeks, the clues continued to pile up. Wrecker's disappearance slowly began to add up, only disappearing when it was your shift in the medical wing and when it wasn't, it would be during the Batches lunch break.
The final straw came one day when Wrecker tried to sneak back into the barracks with something hidden behind his back. The rest of the team quickly cornered him, demanding to know what he was hiding.
With a sheepish smile, Wrecker reluctantly revealed a neatly packed lunch.
The Batch exchanged stunned looks. It was a small, pale box full of food you wouldn't find in the mess hall. The food was neatly stacked and separated into the compartments.
Wrecker was known for his appetite and love for all things hearty and messy. There was no way he had made such a thoughtful and delicate meal. Crosshair was quick to reach into the box, grabbing a small note which Wrecker attempted to retrieve.
'hey wrecker! have a lovely day biggie, enjoy the food my foodie xx'
Read the note. The realization hit them like a blaster bolt—someone else had prepared that lunch for him. The question remained: who?
Unable to contain their curiosity any longer, the batch confronted Wrecker about this mystery.
Wrecker hesitated for a moment before finally admitting the truth. He had been seeing someone, someone special who had captured his heart. You. The angel who swept him off his feet.
The news was met with a mixture of surprise, amusement, and relief. Their suspicions had been confirmed, "I knew it!" Hunter said.
"No, you didn't." Crosshair put a toothpick into his mouth.
They felt genuinely happy for their brother. Wrecker's infectious grin spread across his face, relieved none of them freaked. He was still able to see you, maybe even come introduce his brothers to you.
With the truth out in the open, the Batch embraced Wrecker's special someone with open arms. They teased him mercilessly, each offering their own unique brand of humor and advice. Wrecker beamed from ear to ear, grateful for the support.
As time passed, you would eventually become an important part of the batches lives. The clone siblings grew to appreciate the joy and warmth that you brought to their tight-knit family.
You boasted about bagging such a hearty guy like Wrecker.
After all, what's there not to brag about?

Minority Ambassadorship
I need to get something off my chest and it’s been bothering me for a while but I could never figure out the right words. So I’m just going to shoot my shot and clarify if need be. I’m all for representation and all that but the way it’s been handled in recent years.
The thing that helped me finally click all the pieces together was the recent Spider-Man game. While Peter has a proper adventure Miles is not. He’s doing side jobs and while obviously showing he’s part of the community, his story also falls into a dangerous trap I keep seeing. They (the writers) make him the ambassador of his culture no one is the entirety of their culture but writers keep doing this stuff.
White folks in stories have the freedom to be anything, like anything and feel anything. They’re organically made all the time. But the moment a different race takes the stage they’re chained to the cultural stereotypes. Even Wakanda has just become “Africa the Country” theirs no uniqueness to it, it’s populated by every conceivable African Stereotype. Heck I remember a few years back a marvel comic was made with Miles being made the new Thor and IMMEDIATELY Asgard turned into a Ghetto and it was the most racist joke I’ve seen in a while.
This isn’t new by any means. More often than not when an American enters an anime they’re stereotypically American. Wearing the American flag, usually blond for some reason, constantly swearing and won’t shut up and if we’re feeling REALLY spicy we can make them big and scary.
That habit of writers though can create a feeling of “otherness” to anyone that isn’t you and can actually reinforce stereotypes. You’re not your culture and you shouldn’t be pressured into that mindset. You can absolutely be influenced by it but people aren’t just ambassadors to their culture. That’s ignorant to the highest degree.
Considering many games that do this are affiliated with Sweet Baby Inc. I’m not surprised but it just means we should fight harder against it.
Sweet Baby Inc. is one of those companies that’s basically “sensitivity writers” they show up to punch up stories to make them more “inclusive” but what this usually means is make them subtly racist, homophobic and authoritarian and barring that making a story less interesting. They’re involved with almost every failure within recent types in the gaming market including Suicide Squad and Last of Us 2. They even worked on Spider-Man 2 and the Miles Morales Game. Both of which you can see what I’m talking about by making Miles the Ambassador of Black People and Harlem. They were even involved with the Spanish Translation of Spider-Man 2 which upset that entire part of the world because they used words like Latinx which is considered a slur and an act of colonialism as white people try to force them to change their own language.
Sweet Baby Inc. and its employees are a bunch of racists, homophobes and Authoritarians pulling the greatest grift of all time by pretending to not hate those people and acting like they don’t want to control how people think. The mask has come off frequently and only recently has it come off in such spectacular fashion that a lot of the internet is starting to notice myself included.
In conclusion though, don’t be a racist and let characters of other races and sexual orientation be actual people instead of being the ambassadors of their people. Don’t support bigots that pretend to be on your side and be mindful of people like that. Also don’t buy anything Sweet Baby Inc touched because they’re all of those things.

Beyond the Loch | Monster CoD AU | Chapter 1.
Tumblr media
Summary: “With monsters now being used the world over to wage war, the military is desperate to encourage non-human citizens to join their ranks. A young kelpie, John 'Soap' MacTavish, is invited to join the infamous Task Force 141, the first task force in history to be headed up by a monster. Soon after joining, he encounters a black dog, an omen of death known only as Ghost. Determined to prove that not all black dogs are harbingers of disaster and misfortune, he decides to become Ghost's field partner, becoming close to the spirit while everyone else flees from him terror. Only time can tell if he'll come to regret it or not.”
Notes: Decided to create my own CoD Monster AU! I’ve seen loads of different AUs, but this will be my own personal take on what creatures the different characters would be.
Pairing(s): Future Ghost/Soap. Other to be added.
Warnings: Unedited because I’m tired ;w;.
Series Masterlist
Next: Chapter 2.
There’s always been a great deal of danger for monsters living in the human world. It is far safer for a monster to simply hide away their true identity and do their best to fit in among the cruel creatures that fear them. Better for humans to remain ignorant of a monster’s nature than to learn of it and potentially cause panic. Panic only leads to people lashing out and monsters dying.
At least, that is what Soap grew up knowing.
Times have changed, however, and for the past decade the military has been on the search for the monsters living within society. There are enemies lurking in the shadows that have seen the potential monsters can bring to the battlefield, and it has changed the way war is waged for every nation, leaving armies around the world seeking out the creatures they once persecuted and hunted.
That was what originally piqued Soap’s interest in the military. It was dangerous to even consider working so closely alongside humans, especially trained killers, but Soap has always had a rather rebellious spirit. A young Soap was always eager to push the limits and challenge himself, so chancing a stint with the forces was just another potential adventure in the making.
Of course, with age and experience on the field he has grown more tempered and far less naïve. He has encountered more than his fair share of humans who think monsters shouldn’t be serving alongside them and as a result have treated him... less than ideally... but there are also plenty who are simply excited meet a monster in the flesh.
Meeting another monster on a base or in the field is a rarity, despite how desperate the military is to recruit more, so it can often be a lonely occupation. He regularly finds himself missing the cool lochs of his home and his old pod. But like all males, once he reached maturity he had to move on and find his own territory.
Soap had hoped that joining a squad would alleviate the need to have a large family surrounding him, but he found it difficult to truly form a bond with a group of humans. They were friends, yes, but not what he would consider family.
So, when Soap is given the offer of joining Task Force 141, the first task force headed up by a monster, he leaps at the opportunity. Not only will there be at least one other monster on the team with him, but he would be working alongside some of the most experienced soldiers in the special forces. His request is approved by the higher-ups swiftly, and within a few days Soap has packed his bags, farewelled his old team and is standing before his new captain.
Captain John Price is a stoic man, or at least that’s how he appears on first glance. He’s friendly enough, offering Soap a pleasant greeting at the gate, firmly shaking his hand, and then personally escorting him tohis quarters and then the captain’s office where they can speak further. Price silently reads over Soap’s file again, lit cigar hanging loosely from his lips. Every now and then the man lets out a small puff of smoke, and Soap gathers that not all of it is from the cigar.
A dragon. One of the most revered of all monsters, almost always treated with a healthy amount of both fear and respect. Just one dragon would be enough to level a city, especially a mature, experienced beast such as Price. No doubt the military was giddy when they learned exactly what kind of creature they had under their command.
Normally, dragons are solitary creatures, preferring to remain hidden away in their dens and only leaving to hunt or gather more items for their hoards. So, for the special forces to have one working for them is surely quite the treat.
Just the sound of Price’s calm, deep breaths is enough to send electricity dancing down Soap’s spine, his brain instinctively telling him to dive into the nearest lake and hide until the threat of the other monster’s presence has gone. But where there is fear, there is also excitement. He has the opportunity to learn from someone with well over a hundred years of knowledge of warfare. He also can’t deny the relief that comes from having a fellow supernatural being so close, especially with the way Price seems to be so unbothered with masking his true identity.
Dragons are more than capable of appearing almost completely human, but the captain is rather loose with his looks. Deep green scales line the visible parts of his arms, no doubt continuing under his clothes, and his fingers are tipped with rather sharp, curved claws. His eyes occasionally flicker between blue orbs and thin slits whenever something catches his attention, and Soap is pretty sure he can see a reptilian tail shifting underneath the desk.
“A kelpie,” the dragon muses aloud, causing Soap to snap his eyes back up from where they’d been lingering on Price’s arm, “we haven’t had a kelpie with us before, so we’ll have to discuss any requirements specific to your species.” Price looks up from the paper, “then you’ll be able to meet the rest of the team you’ll be working with.”
“My requirements should be listed on the file, sir,” Soap answers, a little perplexed as to why the captain would be asking when he already has all the answers he seeks.
Price just chuckles at that, resting his cigar on the ashtray so he can offer Soap his full attention, “you and I both know that the military is severely lacking when it comes to accommodating monsters. They will give you the bare minimum to keep you alive, but I want to know what you need to be comfortable here, not just survive.”
Soap is surprised – for years now he’s been focused on just getting by, ignoring most of his preferences since they weren’t actual needs – it has been a long time since he cared about his own wants. “Not too much, just access to some water,” he offers, not entirely certain if that’s what the captain was looking for. Normally, Soap would try spending extra time in the shower, running the water as cold as possible, but it’s a poor substitute for being able to completely submerge his body in water.
Price just nods, scribbling something onto the bottom of Soap’s paperwork. “Any dietary preferences?” he continues.
“Meat and fish are what I would normally eat, but I can eat most things,” Soap watches as Price adds that comment too.
“That should be easy enough to arrange, we generally keep fresh meat stocked,” the captain nods, straightening out the papers in his hands, before tucking them away back into the manila file they’d come from. It makes sense that Price would have more sway over what happened on base, considering both his rank and his rather intimidating nature.
The file is placed into a locked drawer under the desk, before Price is standing up and gesturing for Soap to do so. “Well, it’s good to have you on board, sergeant,” the dragon smiles showing off some rather pointed fangs and clasping Soap’s shoulder. “Ready to meet the rest of the team?” he asks after giving his shoulder an encouraging squeeze.
“Aye, sir,” Soap grins back, genuinely eager to meet the men he would be serving alongside.
Price guides him outside and down toward the training grounds. There are dozens of men running laps while a sergeant stands nearby, occasionally shouting something to them, while another group are running an obstacle course. But the captain doesn’t lead them over to the other men, instead moving toward a lone soldier leaning up against a nearby wall.
The man is wearing a rather unnerving skull mask with accompanying gloves adorned with the design of skeleton hands. The man seems uninterested in what the rest of the soldiers are doing, gaze firmly trained on Price’s approaching figure. This is obviously another monster, with a lengthy, furry tail swishing lazily behind him, while unnatural, ominous crimson eyes stare them down.
“Sergeant, this is Lieutenant Ghost, you’ll be working under him,” Price begins, stopping just in front of the man in question, “Ghost, this is Sergeant John ‘Soap’ MacTavish.”
Ghost’s eyes slowly roam up and down Soap, expression unchanging. After an almost uncomfortably long moment of silence, Ghost finally speaks, voice surprisingly deep. “Sergeant,” is all he says, and it seems that’s the only greeting he’s going to offer.
Soap forces himself to peel his gaze away from the glowing eyes pinning him in place, offering a grin to the monster. “Good t’ meet ye, LT,” he chirps, giving a friendly fist bump to the other man’s arm, “lookin’ forward t’ workin’ with ye!”
Ghost’s eyes widen minutely and he blinks, glancing over to Price for a second before back to Soap again.
Price seems to be biting down the urge to chuckle, small puffs of smoke escaping his nostrils as he attempts to hide his grin behind his fist. He clears his throat, finally getting a hold of himself, “we’ll leave you to it, Ghost.” He jerks his head to the side, signalling to Soap that they should be continuing.
Soap offers the lieutenant another grin before turning away to follow the captain. As he’s leaving, he’s pretty sure he catches a soft, “fuckin’ hell,” murmured from Ghost’s direction.
“Is the lieutenant a werewolf or a shifter?” Soap asks just as they reach the building housing the recreation rooms. He has never met a werewolf before, but they’re far from an uncommon sight, particularly in Europe.
Price shakes his head, “no.” He takes a moment to mull over his response, seemingly uncertain about something. “Have you heard of a black dog before?” he asks.
Soap pauses, almost tripping over his own two feet. “A black dog? Ah was told they dinnae stray from their homes,” he frowns, thinking back to the old stories he was told as a young colt. Black dogs were terrifying creatures – it was said that so much as looking upon one would bring nothing but death and destruction – they were omens of chaos who typically preyed upon lost travellers, leading them to certain doom. Yet there were also stories of benevolent ones that would guide people back to safety, vanishing back into the night.
To follow a black dog was to allow the ghostly beast to determine your fate, either leading you to your death or safely back home.
“Usually, they keep to their own territories, yes, but Ghost prefers to... wander,” Price explains, waiting for Soap to catch up with him again, “is that going to be a problem at all?” He continues.
Confused, Soap furrows his eyebrows at the captain, “why would tha’ be a problem, sir?”
“Some people aren’t willing to follow a black dog given their tendency to lead people into danger. The people around them don’t tend to last very long which, obviously isn’t too uncommon in our line of work, but people tend to be rather superstitious, regardless.”
Soap is almost offended that Price would even have to ask, but it must be a prevalent issue if even other monsters were anxious to work with Ghost. “No sir, there won’t be any problems,” he confirms.
When they finally reach the rec room price has been looking for, the room is completely dark, with the lights switched off and no windows. Price reaches for the lightswitch and the moment he flicks them on a loud groan can be heard from one of the coaches. A head shoots up a moment later, subjecting the two of them to an annoyed glare.
“Good morning, Gaz,” the captain grins, offering a smirk as the man flops back down on the sofa with a huff. “Soap, this is Sergeant Kyle Garrick, or Gaz,” he starts, vaguely waving in Gaz’s direction, “Gaz, this is Sergeant John Soap MacTavish.”
Gaz mumbles what is probably some sort of hello, waving lazily.
“Don’t mind Garrick, he’s nocturnal,” Price explains, waving away Soap’s slightly concerned glance and ignoring the annoyed noise Gaz makes when he nudges the sergeant’s feet off of the coach. “Gaz here is a vampire, being awake during daylight hours doesn't agree with him,” he snickers, ruffling the younger man’s hair.
“Y’ ‘right there, Gaz?” Soap asks, unable to resist smiling when the other man tosses a pillow in his direction, “good to meet you too.”
“Soap is the newest member of the team, try not to concuss him, Gaz,” Price grumbles.
“Sorry, sir,” Gaz grumbles, blinking tiredly, “... can I have my pillow back?” he asks.
Soap grins, “sure,” he says grabbing the pillow from where it landed on the floor and immediately pegging it back at the vampire’s face.
Gaz grunts but doesn’t attempt to fight back, accepting his fate. A muffled “thank you,” comes from underneath the pillow and, a moment later, the man rolls over, now lying face down on his stomach. His body glows lax as he begins to drift off to sleep again.
“Alright, we’ll come back again later when the lad is a little more awake. I’ll show you the lake, then from there I’m sure you’ll be able to find your way.” Price pulls the blanket off of the back of the couch, taking a moment to drape is over Gaz’s sleeping body. “The boy was only turned recently,” he adds, quietly, “he’s still adjusting to how things work.”
Soap can only imagine just how difficult it must be to suddenly go from being human one moment to being a monster the next.
After he and Price leave, Soap can’t help asking, “how many non-humans are there on base?”
Price hums in thought, “I would say, approximately half of the task force.”
Soap stumbles for the second time that day, staring up at his captain in surprise. He had expected there to be one or two monsters on the task force, not dozens of them. “Why’re there so many of ‘em? Shouldn’y there only be a few?” he asks, stunned.
“The human-led task forces don’t have the experience dealing with non-human soldiers. They do their best, but they’ll never really be able to understand how we all function, that each species of monster is unique and has different requirements. We can’t all just be lumped into one category and treated the same,” Price explains, “I wouldn’t treat Gaz the same way I treat Ghost – they have different instincts and needs – but most humans make the mistake of thinking one monster will act the same as another and then act surprised when things go wrong.”
He certainly isn’t wrong, he’s seen firsthand how poor the military treats some of its monster recruits, particularly the more uncommon species. “Ye handle all tha’ by yerself? How?”
The captain huffs a laugh, throwing a toothy grin Soap’s way, “with hard work and very little sleep.”
Soap joins his soft laughter, genuinely impressed. He gets the feeling he’s going to enjoy working in this task force.

January 1996. Before it became a Harley Quinn thing, BIRDS OF PREY was Barbara Gordon's (barely) crypto-lesbian crimefighting polycule. After Babs was shot by the Joker and summarily discarded by the Bat-books, John Ostrander and Kim Yale reinvented the former Batgirl as Oracle, a computer hacker and information broker who for a while was Amanda Waller's second-in-command of the Suicide Squad. In 1995, Oracle became the costar of the leading homoerotic team-up franchise of the '90s, recruiting Black Canary and later various other superheroines for what was nominally a CHARLIE'S ANGELS type adventure series with Oracle as Charlie.
What's memorable about this initial special, aside from its horny Gary Frank art, is that Black Canary doesn't know who Oracle is except by reputation and as an electronically altered voice on the telephone. However, Dinah is going through a rough patch, so when she comes home to find an answering machine message from Oracle saying she has a dangerous job for her and has already bought her a first-class ticket to Gotham, Dinah decides she has nothing better to do but play out the string. Oracle has gotten her a fancy rental car and a swanky hotel suite, in which there's a throat mic and tiny transceiver that will let Oracle communicate with her (and surveil her, although Oracle already knows everything about her, from her recent breakup with Oliver Queen to her poor credit rating) 24/7:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, Babs not only wants Dinah to do some legwork for her, but also dresses her up like a doll, watches her every move, and is a voice in her ear basically at all times. (The early BIRDS OF PREY stories often have scenes of Babs talking to Dinah from the bath or the hot tub, because that's the kind of series this is.) Rather than being creeped out by this weird stalker/control-freak behavior from an anonymous woman, Dinah says, "Sure, why not?" and decides to just go with it, even after Oracle starts bringing other women into the mix.
This being a '90s comic book by right-wing homophobe Chuck Dixon, there are of course various no-homo evasions throughout, but I'm not sure how one is supposed to not read this as kind of gay. The second BIRDS OF PREY story, which teams Black Canary and Lois Lane (and is written not by Dixon, but by Jordan B. Gorfinkel, the editor of the initial special), has this little aside:
Tumblr media
There's no way anyone writing something like this in 1995–96 wouldn't know how people were likely to read this. (Dinah does know that Oracle is a woman even in their first adventure, and while Babs typically distorts her voice when communicating with people as Oracle, it doesn't appear that she does that with Dinah.)
After a while, Dinah does become curious to know more about Oracle, but Babs refuses to let Dinah actually see her. Eventually, though, circumstances force the issue in BIRDS OF PREY #21:
Tumblr media
Dixon's script for this issue contained the following note for artist Butch Guice:
The more drama you can squeeze from this the better. We’re going for The Pieta as opposed to anything that HINTS of the sexual. This scene is apparently RIPE for misinterpretation (or OVERinterpretation.) by some of our readers.
Mission accomplished — no lesbian implications here, boss!
So, as you can see, they have the "be gay" part down pretty well, and you may also be assured that Babs spends this series doing crimes. As a hacker, she of course commits computer fraud on the regular, breaking into restricted and classified systems (she's hacked the military GPS constellation so she can track Dinah, for instance), but she also routinely steals as much money as she needs to finance whatever equipment she needs and keep her girlfriend partner and their ever-growing list of attractive female cohorts in hot cars and fancy underwear. Vigilante superheroes generally take a pretty selective attitude about the law, but the number of felonies this once rather prim policeman's daughter and one-time congresswoman perpetrates honestly puts Catwoman to shame. The stories are frustratingly stupid and the art only gets hornier as it goes on, but what a good series this could have been if it were actually good.

I titled this fic “Dad squad Sad squad” lol. Anyways, I’m not the best at writing but I can’t stop thinking about these three. They mean a lot. Based after that one ask you answered about Rusl having a breakdown. It’s not a detailed breakdown but he’s having a rough time regardless.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Rusl stared blankly at the lake in front of him, watching the sun slowly disappear behind the mountains. It was quiet, save for the trees blowing in the wind and his friends working on a fire. He was supposed to find fish in the lake for Abel to make something for dinner, yet, despite the empty feeling in his stomach, Rusl couldn’t bring himself to catch fish. Fishing was something he did with his sons whenever he got the chance, and with the sun setting and him being alone, the pain lingering in his heart since the beginning of this adventure started to overwhelm him
He was so worried about his dear son. He was ashamed of himself for not protecting him when those red men attacked. From what Abel told him, the red strangers were dangerous, and wanted nothing more but for the calamity to return. Seeing Abel’s Hyrule, Rusl could understand how devastating a calamity’s return would be. And it only made him more worried for Link.
He clutched the fishing rod in his hands, looking over to his side where Link would normally sit when they sat at the Faron spring. They used to sit and talk for the short time they had before they had to head back home. They don’t have those talks much anymore, and a horrifying thought entered his mind, that he’d never have those talks with Link ever again if he’s unable to save him.
He took in a shaky breath and hunched forward, feeling the tears coming to his eyes. He’s been trying to be strong and optimistic for his friend’s sake, but he couldn’t keep that up anymore. Paralyzing fear overwhelmed him for his son’s life, and for a while, he just sat there crying.
He didn’t know how much time had passed, but the sun was well behind the mountains now. He sniffed and wiped the tears from his eyes, starting to calm down just enough for him to hear movement behind him. He spun around and saw the Fierce Deity slouched over near him, his hand hovering inches above Rusl’s back. Abel was behind the war god, reaching for the hand. He looked at Rusl and pulled back, scratching the back of his head.
“I-I’m sorry Rusl,” Abel said rather awkwardly, “he—we— just wanted to make sure you were alright.”
“I was just about to console you,” the Fierce Deity said, his hand not moving.
“I told him not to do it this way though,” Abel muttered, glaring at the war god.
Rusl stared at them bewildered, and almost let out a laugh. He wiped the remaining tears from his eyes and forced a smile.
“Thank you, I’m alright though… I uh… don’t need a pat on the back.”
The Fierce Deity nodded and lowered his hand, standing to his full height.
“So, you are no longer in need of consolation?” The war god asked, looking at Abel for help. The tired man only shrugged.
“I-I’ll be fine, thank you, really.” Rusl gave a more genuine smile.
The war god nodded again and turned around, “I was able to find a deer in the forest, we’ll have that for dinner,” he stated.
“So you don’t have to worry about catching any fish, alright?” Abel said softly.
Rusl stared at them for a moment, feeling guilty that he didn’t do what he was supposed to do.
“I’m sorry—“
Abel raised his hand to stop him. “It’s fine Rusl. There’s not a lot of fish here anyways.”
Abel looked at the fierce deity and gestured towards the fire with his head. The war god nodded and gave Rusl a small smile before walking towards the fire they built. Rusl smiled back and turned to look at the lake again, the anxiety returning to him. But before it could overwhelm him again, he felt a gentle hand rest on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Abel staring at him with a sad expression. The look of understanding was in his eyes, and he gave Rusl a nod. Though he didn’t speak any words, Rusl knew that Abel was determined to save their sons, and a sliver of hope shone through the darkness lingering in his chest. Rusl nodded back and patted the hand on his shoulder gratefully. Abel smiled slightly before turning around and joining the war god, who was watching them curiously. Rusl watched them for a moment as they began to prepare the meal, and he felt alone again. He looked up at the stars, beginning to shine among the dark sky.
Spirits… goddesses… anyone from this world… Rusl prayed silently, his hand clutching his chest, please, please keep our sons safe, please let them return to us. Please have Link and I return home safely…
"forever you and i"
Tumblr media
summary: for you, being part of the mafia with park jimin has always proved to be an adventure. so now that your undercover work has been discovered, wouldn't it be fitting that your downfall is an adventure as well?
wc: tba
warnings: mafia au, police, mentions of betrayal, mentions of crime, yelling, tears, jumping off a bridge, angst, fluff if you squint
a/n: i swear i wrote this write after listening to like crazy because the mv gave me such inspiration i couldn't resist. he's so cool i love him omg. anyways i hope you enjoy!
~
"do you trust me?"
"always."
taking one last look into my eyes, he tightens his grip on my hand, before pulling me into his arms.
"i love you, y/n" he whispers, and although my emotions are threatening to take over, i force my tears down. i can see his eyes glistening too, and this makes me hold him a little closer.
"i love you jimin" i breathe.
the sirens are closer now, and i can hear the static of walkie-talkies not too far behind. the police squad was nearly here, no doubt having already called for back-up.
too bad they'd be too late.
chancing a glance over the bridge railing, i stare at the running water below us.
who knew going out on a simple walk would result in the authorities discovering our true identities?
being part of the mafia with jimin had always been a risky game, but that was the fun of it. doing good things the bad way was better than letting opportunities to do any good at all slip away.
it had been years since he'd maintained his position as the head of the park clan, and i as his right-hand. it was our normal. however, this information was only known to the members of the gang, and a few allied clans who had been sworn into secrecy.
so unless we were betrayed, there was no way the police should have found us.
within minutes we had been surrounded, left with no other choice than to grab each other and run down the first clear path we could see. which had led us to this dead-ended tunnel bridge at least 30 stories above a large body of water.
it was unfair.
there were so many things i had wanted to say tonight, so many things i had wanted to do, and today was supposed to be the day because we were both free.
we were together.
if only we'd had more time.
seeming to sense my thoughts, i feel jimin hold my chin between his fingers, turning my face back towards him.
"we'll be fine. we always are" he says, eyes creasing into half-moons as he gives me the soft smile i've grown to know so well. "see you on the other side, yea?"
gently squeezing his side, i smile back, letting go of my thoughts and shutting out everything else around me.
except for him.
"see you on the other side."
"stop!" suddenly, an officer turns the corner of the bridge far down the road, and he stands frozen as he watches us by the edge.
cursing, i let out a quick breath as jimin mutters a prayer, before looking at me.
it's a silent question.
are you ready?
swallowing once, i nod, and together, holding each other close, we jump.
as we drop down, the distant yells of the officer echo off the tunnel walls, followed by the screeching of cars, police sirens, and more calls for back-up.
ignoring the chaos above, i directed my focus to what was below.
eyes widening, i feel the rush of the wind and see the glittering reflection the stars make on the water's surface, and am suddenly convinced the two of us were going on an adventure.
and we were, i suppose.
because every day with jimin has been an adventure.
running from police, carrying out insane raids, taking down the worst criminals from within their own territories, and handing out justice to all with a side of danger. these were all adventures.
and i wouldn't have it any other way.
meeting jimin's gaze for what may or may not be the last time, i take in the way his jet-black hair frames his face, making him look younger than ever. the way his eyes shine bright despite the situation we were in and the darkness of the night surrounding us. the way the corners of his mouth are tilting upwards, as though waiting for my next move.
"go on, princess," he teases as the sounds of the water come closer. "i know you want to."
grateful for his unwavering flirtatiousness, i grab the sides of his face and kiss him hard.
his lips are soft against mine as i close my eyes, one of his hands coming up to grab my nape, deepening the kiss. i tangle my fingers into his hair and pull him closer, feeling his heartbeat pounding against my own through his jacket.
there's a rush running through me, similar to the one i'd get when we narrowly escaped an angry mob of gangsters, or managed to successfully infiltrate an enemy base after a few close calls.
it was adrenaline and excitement and the feeling of being alive.
that's what jimin was to me: my source of life.
he had shown me long ago that the only way to truly live was to get rid of doubt. get rid of the "what if" and "not now" and "but." he'd shown me a way to turn my life from merely existing to actually living.
and i would forever cherish him, regardless of all he did for me, or even if he did nothing at all.
i opened my eyes to see jimin staring straight at me, and i let myself fall deeper into his gaze, into his arms, into him, i smiled.
even as we hit the water and sank below, the only thing on my mind was jimin.
and the fact that no matter where we are or what happens, good or bad, right or wrong, he would always be there.
because him and i are forever.
A Relaxing Week Gone Wrong
The Bad Batch had been on the run for a while, dodging the Empire and taking on odd jobs to survive. They needed a break, and they found it on a planet full of plants. The planet was uninhabited, peaceful, and lush with greenery. They decided to make this a relaxing week and went camping in the woods.
Y/N, the newest member of the squad, was excited to explore the planet. She had joined the Bad Batch after they rescued her from an Imperial prison, where she had been held for being a former Jedi padawan. She had a strong connection to the Force, but she also had a curious and adventurous spirit. She enjoyed being with the Bad Batch, especially Crosshair, who had a soft spot for her despite his gruff demeanor.
Crosshair kept an eye on Y/N as she helped set up the camp. He admired her bravery and resilience, but he also worried about her safety. He knew that the galaxy was a dangerous place, and he wanted to protect her from any harm. He felt a bond with her that he couldn’t explain, but he didn’t know how to express it.
Y/N was busy setting up a tent when she felt a sharp pain in her hand. She looked down and saw a small lizard biting her finger. She shook it off and examined the wound. It didn’t look serious, but it was bleeding slightly. She went to Tech, who was scanning the area with his goggles.
“Hey, Tech, can you take a look at this?” she asked, showing him her hand.
Tech glanced at her finger and said, “Oh, that’s nothing to worry about. It’s just a minor bite from a local reptile. It’s not poisonous or harmful in any way.”
“Are you sure?” you asked.
“Of course I’m sure. I’ve scanned all the lifeforms on this planet. There’s nothing here that can harm us,” Tech said confidently.
“Okay, thanks,” you said, feeling relieved.
She went back to finish setting up the tent, but she soon started to feel unwell. She felt dizzy and nauseous, and her vision blurred. She tried to call for help, but her voice was weak. She collapsed on the ground, losing consciousness.
Crosshair saw her fall and ran to her side. He caught her before she hit the ground and lifted her up in his arms. He checked her pulse and felt it was faint. He looked at her face and saw it was pale and sweaty.
“Y/N! Y/N! Can you hear me?” he shouted, shaking her gently.
There was no response.
He glared at Tech and yelled, “You said there was nothing to worry about!”
Tech looked shocked and confused. He ran over to them and scanned Y/N with his goggles.
“I don’t understand. There must be some mistake. The bite shouldn’t have caused this reaction,” he said.
“Well, it did! And now she’s dying!” Crosshair snapped.
He carried Y/N to their ship and laid her down on a bed. He searched for a medkit and found one in a drawer. He opened it and looked for something that could help her.
He found a syringe with an antidote for common venomous bites. He hoped it would work on Y/N bite as well. He injected it into her arm and waited for any sign of improvement.
He held her hand and whispered, “Please don’t leave me, You’re the only thing that matters to me.”
He didn’t know if she could hear him, but he hoped she could
He stayed by her side until she woke up.
She opened her eyes and saw him looking at her with concern and relief.
“Crosshair?” she said weakly.
He smiled and said, “Hey, kid. You scared me there for a moment.”
“What happened?” she asked.
“You got bit by a lizard and had a bad reaction to it. But you’re okay now. I gave you an antidote,” he said.
She looked at him with gratitude and said, “Thank you for saving me.”
He shrugged and said, “It was nothing.”
He leaned down and kissed her forehead gently.
She smiled and said, “I love you, Crosshair.”
He felt his heart skip a beat and said, “I love you too, Y/N.”
They hugged each other and fell asleep in each other’s arms.
Every Call Of Duty Game In Chronological Order
Call Of Duty: WW2 (1940 - 1945)
Despite being one of the more recent entries into the shooter franchise, WW2 is set before all of the others.
The earliest year the game goes back to is 1940, yet most of the story occurs between 1944 and 1945. The tale follows Private Ronald "Red" Daniels and his Infantry squad as they try to end the Nazis towards the conclusion of World War 2.
Call Of Duty 2 (1941 - 1945)
While most of the early Call Of Duty titles begin in 1942, the second game is a little different as it starts at the end of '41.
During the campaign, you control soldiers from three of the Allied powers in America, Britain, and Russia. Each of their adventures takes place separately, and they all have difficult obstacles to overcome.
Call Of Duty: Vanguard (1941 - 1945)
Vanguard provides another foray into World War 2. This one is all about a special task force made up of a few skilled soldiers from different allied countries. Their mission is to stop a secret Nazi project. And the operation occurs in 1945.
Along the way, you're treated to plenty of playable flashbacks showing what each character was doing earlier in the war.
Call Of Duty: World at War (1942 - 1945)
At the beginning of World At War, you participate in the Makin Island raid, which occurs in 1942 like its real-life counterpart.
The rest of the story plays out in a similar fashion as you become involved in plenty of famous battles and incidents from WW2. In each mission, you're either following some American troops or focusing on a Russian squad.
Call Of Duty (1942 - 1945)
The Call of Duty series started in World War 2, more specifically, 1942. However, most of the first game is set in 1944 and 1945 as the Allied powers push back against the Nazi forces.
In classic COD fashion, the campaign lets you see three different perspectives on the war as there are multiple protagonists. The main characters belong to separate nations, but they all have the same goal of tipping the war in favor of the Allied powers.
Call Of Duty 3 (1944)
Call of Duty's World War 2 games usually try to cover several years of the conflict. However, Call of Duty 3's campaign focuses solely on 1944 with most of the attention being on the Battle of Normandy.
Another interesting aspect of the story is that Polish, French, and Canadian forces have big roles in it, alongside the customary American and British soldiers.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops (1961 - 1968)
More than most Call Of Duty games, Black Ops puts a heavy focus on its narrative. Much of the story is told from the perspective of a man named Alex Mason, who's being interrogated in 1968.
During those scenes, he recounts important moments from the past several years, which are shown through playable flashbacks. The first memory occurs in 1961 at the time of the Bay of Pigs invasion.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (1981)
As the name suggests, the events of COD: Black Ops Cold War take place during the Cold War. More specifically, the entire campaign occurs in 1981 and sees the return of some characters from the first Black Ops.
They all are a part of a team led by a CIA operative named Russell Adler, who's hunting down a Soviet agent called Perseus. It's up to you to influence how the vital operation plays out over a set of missions that vary in quality.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 (1986 - 1989) - Alex Mason Missions
In Black Ops 2, you control both Alex Mason and his son David at different points of the campaign. When you swap characters, you switch time periods too. Alex's missions occur in the 1980s, while David's sections are in the future.
During the past missions, the older Mason teams up with the likes of Hudson and Woods once again to track down a dangerous man named Raul Menendez.
Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (1996 - 2011)
COD4 was the first entry to take the series away from a WW2 setting. Instead, the game's main events take place during one week in 2011.
You play as Soap from the SAS and Jackson of the USMC, who are separately trying to stop a dangerous terrorist threat. Plus, for two missions, you flashback to 1996 to learn more about the main antagonist.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare (1999 - 2019)
The latest entry in the Modern Warfare sub-series isn't a part of the same continuity as the others. However, some classic Modern Warfare characters still return in this one, namely Price.
During the game, Price doesn't just join forces with the CIA; he also allies with Arab Soldiers and Freedom Fighters. They all team up to stop the Russians who've taken over Urzikstan. Parts of the game are flashbacks that take you to 1999.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2016)
Five years on from the events of the first Modern Warfare, Soap MacTavish has become a Captain, and he's leading a special forces unit called Task Force 141.
His group spends the game hunting Vladimir Makarov, who is the leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party. Yet, it turns out that there is another villain in the mix that's closer to home.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2016 - 2017)
Modern Warfare 3 continues right where its predecessor left off with Price and Nikolai getting an injured Soap to safety.
Like the previous game, the story is all about tracking down and stopping Makarov. Task Force 141, Delta Force, and the SAS are all on hand to end the Ultranationalist threat.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)
Seemingly to confuse everyone, Activision has released two games called Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The one released in 2022 takes place in the same year it was released. And it's a continuation of 2019's Modern Warfare.
It follows the adventures of Task Force 141, who are attempting to stop a serious Iranian terrorist threat. They also tackle with the Las Almas Cartel in the process.
Call Of Duty: Ghosts (2015 - 2027)
In Ghosts' opening prologue, a group known as the Federation launch an ODIN strike on the United States in 2017.
Then the story jumps ahead ten years where the country is still suffering the effects of the blast, and a spec ops team called Ghosts are at war with the Federation. Most of the adventure occurs in 2027, but there is a flashback to 2015 at one point.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 (2025) - David Mason Missions
The Black Ops 2 missions that follow David Mason (aka "Section") happen in 2025.
As his father did many years before, Section spends his portion of the campaign trying to track down one of the series best villains in Raul Menendez to stop him once and for all.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2043)
There is no traditional campaign for Black Ops 4 as the title is all about its multiplayer modes.
However, there are still some cutscenes in the game that focus on telling the personal tales of the multiplayer characters. All of the training missions seem to take place in 2043.
Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare (2054 - 2061)
In Advanced Warfare, you control Jack Mitchell and face off against several different enemy factions, first as a Marine and then as a member of Atlas. Yet, you don't discover the true villain until partway through the game.
The entire adventure happens in the 2050s and early 2060s. As a result, you're able to make use of some futuristic and high-tech equipment throughout the campaign.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 (2065 - 2070)
Raul Menendez's drone attacks at the end of Blacks Ops 2 caused the world to refocus their efforts back on ground combat with some futuristic weapons.
During Black Ops 3, you experience this renewed interest in ground assaults as you participate in the third Cold War, which is fought between factions known as the Winslow Accord and the Common Defense Pact.
Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare (Unknown)
Infinite Warfare is the only Call Of Duty game that doesn't mention what year it is set. However, it's clear the campaign occurs sometime in the future as space travel has come a long way.
During the game, the Settlement Defense Front (SDF) is locked in a violent conflict with the United Nations Space Alliance. Nick Reyes, aka you, takes the fight to the SDF throughout the adventure.
(sorry if this confused you ut i hope there some people who will understand<3)
Back in 2011, I was asked "So, what old DC comic would YOU like to reboot, and what's the angle, and can you draw a cover for this theoretical comic relaunch?" I was not asked this by a professional editor at DC, but by my friend Jon who was doing a themed blog thingie. Look, it was before the world we live in now—we had time to imagine a better world and fool around! Anyway, I am reposting the "pitch" I wrote, as well as the illo I did back in 2011 (below), just to have it here. Above is a more recent posca drawing/painting of Dart (as you will see if you read the wall of text below, she's my favorite 😂)
ATARI FORCE #1 (of 12)
2063: A.T.A.R.I. (Advanced Technology And Research Institute) combs an infinite number of realities in order to find a suitable new world for the population of a dying Earth. In their travels through the Multiverse, one of the expeditionary forces does battle with and ultimately kills the ultimate evil - a lovecraftian devourer of dimensions they dub the DARK DESTROYER. In the course of this battle, they find a perfect, empty world in a universe teeming with advanced civilizations. After some false starts both the recolonization of New Earth and the socialization of the New Earthlings with the rest of their new neighbors is a success.
2088: THE ATARI FOUNDATION, now the de facto governing party of New Earth, has ushered in a new era of utopian prosperity. After the Old Earth was brought to the brink of destruction by gross negligence and mismanagement, the people of New Earth are only too happy to put themselves in the guiding hands of ATARI. All live in relative prosperity and happiness..
Except for MARTIN CHAMPION, brilliant Multiversal scientist and the leader of the original expedition that battled the Destroyer. Martin is haunted by the death of his wife in childbirth, and is convinced that the Dark Destroyer somehow caused it. Instead of going about his life and picking up the pieces, Martin sits in his lab sending probes out in to the Multiverse, in hopes of finding proof of the existence of the Dark Destroyer. Martin has, over the years, become a laughingstock of ATARI, as well as driven his now adult son out of his life, due to misplaced anger about the death of his wife. All he has left is his obsession..
Until one of his probes goes missing after sending back readings of energy very similar to the kind the Destroyer radiates. Worried that he's given the Dark Destroyer a direct route back to New Earth in the lost probe, Martin hijacks his now antique Multiversal scout ship
SCANNER ONE and heads out to stop the Destroyer once and for all. To help him on this mission, he enlists:
ERIN BIA O'ROURKE-SINGH, aka DART - A telepathic mercenary, as well as his goddaughter. She's one of the deadliest, sexiest beings in the universe, and she has a precognitive "second sight" that comes in handy.
MORPHEA - An alien empath, forced on Champion by the ATARI FOUNDATION to serve as his psychiatrist. Ostensibly she's there to help him with his "delusions", but her connection to Martin's deepest convictions gives her reason to think he's actually right about the danger facing the Multiverse.
CHRIS CHAMPION, aka TEMPEST - Martin's estranged son. A professional fighting champion who's anger management issues and freakish teleportation abilities have made him a star in the Mega-Brawl circuit.
Wanted by the government of New Earth, and pursued by the ATARI Security Squad, Champion has to outwit them all and defeat the ultimate expression of evil all over again. Luckily this time he has the new, improved, ATARI FORCE!
Over the course of their adventure, their rag tag team grows in size as they pick up new members:
BABE - The hulking, freakishly strong infant from a world of rock-like creatures.
TUKLA OLY, aka PAKRAT - An impish, self-absorbed master thief who goes into berserker rages when cornered.
TAZ - A master soldier, last of her race, who carries deep anger and sadness within her.
MOSES FISK, aka BLACKJAK - Dart's lover, a roguish mercenary once thought dead, secretly brainwashed to do the Dark Destroyer's bidding. --- I loved AF as a kid, so when Jon asked me what book I'd reboot if I got the chance, it was one of a handful of titles I considered. I especially loved Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez' designs and storytelling, and Gerry Conway did a really good job weaving all these plot threads together in an exciting way.
My reboot of the book would reprise it as a 12 issue mini series (or maxi series, as it would have been called back then), and really play up some of the hard sci fi elements at the fringes of the concept, as well as inject a sort of European sense of storytelling to the character bits, while still remaining true to the general arc of the original.
The only character I would really change that much is Chris, who in the original is pretty lame/bland/whiney and was quickly overshadowed by Dart. I thought giving him the MMA-style fighting league to be a part of would be something interesting for him to use to try and cope with being crapped on by his dad all his life, as well as ground him more than in the original series, where he's really sort of a cypher-brat.
Another wrinkle I would explore is the sexual tension between him and his "sister", Dart. It's hinted at in the original series, but I think that I'd have it bloom fully in my version on these long weeks and months stuck on Scanner One - Chris always having had a thing for Dart since they were kids, and Dart being rather depressed and lovesick because of Blackjak's apparent death early in the series. Things would, of course get rather sticky when Blackjak reappears.
Needless to say, the ATARI FORCE gang eventually wins out against the new iteration of the Dark Destroyer, but not without some serious losses, and they limp off still wanted by the ATARI FOUNDATION and use the failing Multiversal drive on Scanner One to take them into unknown space..
Atari Force was created by Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas. (Read more)
FIC REC WEEK 13 – MISSION FIC
SERIES: Armed and Dangerous by AlchemyAlice
Pairing: Steve/Bucky/Tony, Pepper/Coulson Rating: M Words: 82,944 Tags: Action/Adventure, Polyamory Negotiations, BAMF Pepper
Summary: Bucky wakes up. Tony takes a liking to him. Steve frowns a lot. Also, there is some Avenging going on. And tech porn.
Reasons why I love it: The Avengers are utterly unhinged, but what else is new. I love how Tony and Bucky are the ones who click instantly, and it's Steve who takes a while to come around. Also, Pepper and Coulson's entire subplot is so much fun! I love them. Definitely go and check this one out!
This series consists of:
Impulse
Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 3,629 Tags: Canon Divergence, Bucky's Metal Arm, First Kiss
Summary: Bucky is found by SHIELD. Tony wants a project. They meet somewhere in the middle.
Reasons why I love it: Talk about love at first sight. Tony and Bucky's chemistry is off the charts, and I love the first hints of Bucky meddling in Tony and Steve's relationship too. The scene with the holographic hand is one that regularly pops into my head and makes me want to reread this entire series. I love this fic, and all the ones that follow!
Reflexes
Pairing: Steve/Bucky/Tony Rating: M Words: 41,299 Tags: Polamory Negotiations, Action, Threesomes
Summary: Bucky meets the team and manages to survive the experience, Tony is his usual dysfunctional self, and Steve pouts with deadly force.
Reasons why I love it: I love the slow burn in this, Tony and Steve gradually warming up to each other while Bucky is his usual scheming self. The humor is top notch, and the action is so fucking good it almost feels like you're watching a movie. Plus, the way they get together in the end is fantastic, top marks, couldn't have wished for anything better. I love this one so much!
The Art of Order
Pairing: Pepper/Coulson, Steve/Bucky/Tony Rating: G Words: 18,762 Tags: Competency, Corporate Espionage, Drinking
Summary: The alternate title to this story is, ‘How Pepper Got Her Groove Back (Not That She Ever Lost It To Begin With): A Story in Cocktails’: In which Pepper rules Stark Industries with an iron fist in between drink breaks, there is way higher than Level Seven clearance at SHIELD but Phil trusts her with a lot more than that, and the Avengers really have no idea how much work has to be done to keep them afloat when it doesn't directly involve explosions.
Reasons why I love it: Pepper is a boss ass queen, and don't you ever forget it. I really enjoyed getting a look inside her mind here, how she processes not only everything to do with Tony, the Avengers and her professional duties, but also her budding relationship with Coulson. Those two could probably run the world together with the lift of a single finger. Amuly really nailed Pepper's characterization to the point where it feels like she was plucked straight out of canon. This fic is absolutely wonderful and a great companion piece to the first two in this series.
Clint Barton and the Adventures of This, That, and the Whatsit
Pairing: Gen Rating: T Words: 3,125 Tags: Humor, Robot Friends, Fluff
Summary: Clint is totally the John Connor of New York. Until he isn’t.
Reasons why I love it: Clint endearing himself to an army of cleaner bots is the cutest thing ever. Said bots turning into a Clint Barton Defense Squad is even more adorable. I love everything about this fic, and I bet you will too!
Ian White and the Rolodex of Doom
Pairing: OMC/FC Rating: T Words: 16,129 Tags: Office Life, Pepper's PA, Humor
Summary: For the record, Ian does not go to his interview at Stark Industries with any hope of getting the job whatsoever.
Reasons why I love it: Ian is such a fun OC, I'm so happy we get to see more of him here. He's such a sweetheart, and everyone else recognizing that and taking him under their wing is adorable. Plus, his whole thing with Nancy is super cute. In short, Ian must be protected at all costs, and I love this entire series more than I can say. Please go and check it out if you haven't, because it's incredible!
This is real embarrassing for me but hey, I finally managed to answer this ask!! Surprise for ya all (even for me lol) I’m sure - also I’m so so sorry for how long this ask been sitting in my inbox Ranger, hope ya forgive me hah 😅😅
Before you go and open the keep reading section, I want to warn that the total number of this thing is like 2012 words so be ready for a big reading lol
muse development questions here
CHARACTER: HUSSAR
4) what seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
One of those kinds of memories comes in the form of how his daughter ran to him all teary-eyed and pale as a ghost. It was the first thing he witnessed after coming home near midnight once again. He truly thought that something horrible had happened, dropping his leather briefcase in haste, and swooping his little girl into an embrace without hesitation. From the sound of it, his 5-year-old was the only one still waiting for him, his wife nowhere to be seen from the quick mental survey he did through the cramped living space. Before he could utter any kind of question to his daughter, she opened her mouth to show a blank space between her front teeth, while simultaneously showing off the tiny milk tooth lying on top of her small palm. Luckily for Hussar, his blood pressure did not skyrocket to a dangerous degree, it would have been quite an embarrassment if he had to explain the reason why he was having an almost heart attack. Unluckily for him, this memory of a daughter-father-only situation would be one of the last ones before the divorce.
Another instance relates to his time in training before he became the Hussar himself. His training squad was sent for tactical training in the Bieszczady Mountains for a whole week. The training was based on solo survival tactics and navigating the wilderness without contact with HQ. Being there was an experience, sleeping under an open sky, feeling how nature enveloped everything with its majestic beauty - the views especially had been ingrained in Hussar’s mind. More so than even the training he was in the first place for. However, the first time he saw a bear wasn’t one of his fondest moments in Hussar’s humble opinion (especially when it tried to go for his MRE).
5) does your character work so they can support their hobbies or use their hobbies as a way of filling up the time they aren’t working?
The easiest answer for this is both. Hussar’s hobbies like bike riding or hiking for example consume a lot of the free time he miraculously doesn’t fill with work-related matters, especially when he ultimately gets told by either his close family or coworkers that he “haruje jak dziki osioł” (works like a wild mule). Forcing this man to take a mandatory leave, is like sending him to the literal gallows in his honest opinion. When it comes to the matter of supporting his off-time activities, he takes a meticulous amount of time to have his needed equipment in top-notch condition compared to some (looking at Gromsko being the type to see a flat tyre on a bike and going “nah, its fine”) people he drags with him to those small adventurous.
Another thing that he uses his high salary for is to get materials needed for… crocheting. That’s right, Hussar sits down in his lounge chair with a ball of yarn and crotchets or at least tries to. Compared to his other hobbies, this one is a newer skill he is trying to develop, apparently, his therapist says it’s a great way for him to work around his feelings as well as his anxieties related to work life and all the side effects of working in a “you can be killed any day” environment he frequents. Plus, he can save some money by making gifts for his close friend circle rather than spending money on expensive items all the time (his cats get also nice and cosy blankets for their own as well).
10) what would your character make a scene in public about?
Hussar is the most non-confrontational type of person you will ever encounter when it comes to the civilian public scene. It is not without any reason he was promoted to being a general, his public image is of the calmest person alive, and the Tibetan monks would be jealous of his cold-headedness. The duality of his public persona and what happens behind soundproof and closed doors is mind-blowing to the average person, especially when the person in question manages to spill over Hussar’s composure. Because there is always a limit to someone’s patience and in the case of Hussar it’s when you manage to create a fuck up on a nuclear scale. It usually happens in the workplace, whenever he manages to squeeze some time between report writing, meetings and such, he will overview manoeuvres on the training grounds. Suppose you manage to break one of the safety protocols such as incorrectly handling firearms. In that case, he will rip you a new one without any hesitation. People around you will part like the Red Sea to let a foaming Hussar right to where you stand (if you look around you will find some of your fellow comrades doing the sign of the cross, already sensing a funeral coming) because they are not going to catch a stray bullet.
The longest monologue of fury that Hussar has given so far was for straight 45 minutes (time recorded by an extremely tired Rysiek wishing for a straight double vodka shot already at noon), where the general managed to drag in the poor soul’s family several generations backwards into the lecture because there had to be something genetically wrong with the private if he thinks “playing darts with rifles equipped with bayonets” was a brilliant idea.
13) what does your character pretend or try to care about?
When it comes to pretending, he will tell whichever higher-up in question that he only cares about “the mission’s success”. In reality, he will not regret and hesitate to pull out when the situation down below gets too hot, the safety of his people or god forbid, any civilians accompanying the mission, is much greater than any winning streak. As much as the stress of a new position and responsibilities weighs him down, he doesn’t think of his subordinates as numbers or statistics as many of his peers do; he still feels and keeps his connection to the unit and its members alive rather than succumbing to the pressure of a new rank.
Of course, he also juggles his relationship with the Polonaise squad between friendly and professional because if he turns too cold he will lose his chosen family and if he shows too much attachment the higher-ups will chew him out. Keeping this balance is similar to the Sisyphus myth, where Hussar is stuck in a “między młotem a kowadłem” (between a rock and a hard place) situation almost constantly. He, of course, pretends that it does not affect him at all.
In reality, he does not give a damn about his new status, but he needs to pretend so he doesn’t come out as “insolent” in the eyes of his superiors. The thing he cares most about is keeping his subordinates from getting killed or killing themselves by performing ridiculous stunts.
CHARACTER: TOSKA
2) what was the best thing in your character’s life?
From what he knows, the best thing that happened to him recently is being “adopted” (read: being picked up from the mess in Las Almas by TF141 after everything, with a gushing wound in his side and hands cuffed behind his back for “everyone’s” safety) by his current commanding officer, Captain Jonathan Price. As much as he is sceptical of the motives and schemes of these new people around him, he has all he needs and wishes to have: bed, food and new targets. What else is there to wish for?
However, something is lingering behind closed doors, in the shadows, whispering of the time he had someone who wasn’t exactly a CO but something more… motherly? A soft-spoken voice, almost of an angel’s quality, speaking to a little child in a weird and foreign language… similar in sound to the words spoken by Nikolai when his helicopter malfunctions but of a different nature... It drives Toska to his wits end because he can’t- won’t remember what all this means.
13) what does your character pretend or try to care about?
Toska is a simple thing, or that is what his previous COs said, he only needs to care about succeeding when it comes to his missions. Failure is not acceptable, it always was like that. Until this new CO of his, the people Toska is surrounded by, with their hawk-like stares whenever he moves a simple inch, they try to crumble his devotion. They say; “Take it easy, kid”, “Do something else, mate” or “You don’t have to take care of everyone’s equipment”, but if he isn’t needed… what is he supposed to do? He pretends that he understands and that he cares about the “no’s” and “take a rest’s” they spew at him each time he tries to be of service.
14) how does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project?
He’s a dutiful weapon, there’s no “different” image or portrayal for him. If you need a soldier, he is a soldier, if you need an attack dog, he will be an attack dog. Whatever it may be that his COs want, he will deliver because; he is what they made him nothing more nothing less.
Under that image though? There is a seed that wants to bloom out, but so far, the darkness all around won’t allow it. It may change, with time and by Toska accepting the new status quo he has been put in the middle of.
CHARACTER: FLORIAN
4) what seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
Florian remembers the first time he saw an insect that wasn’t either a mutated killing machine or the local “wildlife” of the underground bunker. It was a grasshopper of all things, rubbing its’ long legs together and creating a sound that Florian had never heard before. He didn’t know what it was or how it got inside, but his curiosity was and still is never-ending and with that, he caught it by putting it in a glass jar. The ten-year-old at the time boy, ran to his mother with glee, being of course careful of his little prisoner, having in mind to show the critter to her. Instead, he bumped into his father, who when he saw the creature, ripped the jar from Florian’s hands reprimanding him about all the “radiation” and “danger” that the older man was known for labelling everything with those exact words.
8) how many friends does your character have?
Without counting his future camaraderie with certain Russian rangers’, he had quite a small group of colleagues growing up in Berlin. Most of those colleagues were in reality only for show, because of course having the son of one of the New Berlin’s heroes as a friend boosts someone’s social status immensely. Especially when it had its’ benefits within the new world’s school with its’ favouritism towards high-placed individuals and in turn, guaranteeing the person with better jobs, supplies, resources and equipment.
Nonetheless, Florian had a close friend who didn’t take advantage of his heritage and legacy but saw him as a living and breathing individual. They would be the one person to aid him in the future when he would take the great leap and venture into the world’s ruins in search of his father.
9) how many friends does your character want?
Having an early experience with friendships solely based on his status or whatever else he could offer, Florian has a hard time wanting any new “colleagues”. His determination to stay independent and to not be someone’s boost into their own agendas makes him hesitant to form any new relationship of his own accord. That mindset gets challenged quickly when he gets himself stuck in an inescapable situation amongst people he does not understand a lick of what they are saying, where the only option is to follow a mysterious man who doesn’t utter any words towards him (which is better in his opinion, because he would not understand them anyways).
