It's.... MERMAY-PALOOZA~

Finally, FINALLY I have collected enough assets to do MerMay!

This one will go a lil differently from previous Renderpaloozas - I'll be taking requests all week (5/1/23 - 5/7/23), but instead of trying to cram all the renders into the same week, I'll be pacing myself and releasing them throughout the month.

Choices and rules are under the cut. I can't possibly show every variation available, feel free to DM me if you want to see texture options or have any questions!

RULES:

Please limit to 2 requests per requestor.

One character per render.

Renders will have a prefab underwater scene as a backdrop.

Poses will be chosen by me.

If you request someone else's OC, I will have to okay it with the OC's creator first!

I reserve the right to close the request window at any time, I am but one little guy and I can only do so much T_T

I will append a request queue to this post as requests come in! If you send a request and don't see it appear in the queue within a day, tumblr probably ate your request :c Try again!

Tail Choices:

Classic Merfolk (choose tailfin)

Seahorse Tail

Fantasy Lionfish Tail

Octo-Mer (fem base characters only, sadly)

Shark Tail (choose arm fins, scars, body paint)

Classic Mermaid (with gills, fem base only)

Eel Tail (with gills, masc base only)

Fancy Tails (choose fin options)

Snake Tails (choose scale options)

Texture Choices:

Color - most of these have a huge array of colors and patterns available. Feel free to DM me about the choices available for the tail you've chosen! I can also make some basic color adjustments to suit. You can also just leave it up to me!

Glossy/Metallic/Pearly/Bioluminescent - I can make the tail have a fancy sheen or bioluminescent markings!

Clothing/Jewelry:

Pearls, gems, gold, silver; rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and body chains; facial and body piercings - I can adorn your mer in jewelry if you like! Give a general vibe and I'll do my best to fulfill it from my large library of jewelry assets. (Otherwise, they'll just have their usual jewelry.)

Armor - I can put armor on the top half of your mer. Choose from fantasy or realistic styles.

Modesty top - if your mer has breasts, they can go bare (will mark the render as Mature) or I can choose a little fantasy top for them to wear. (If your mer goes bare, I can absolutely give them nip piercings btw)

Masc mers can absolutely wear a little crop top too, as a treat :)

Hair:

Unless otherwise specified, characters will have their usual hair, but you can request a long-haired version for your mer!

I have been seeing @daisydevorak and their mermaid handler au for mermay pop up on my dash a time or two and got inspired!! So here’s a quick sketch of handler Maeve! I had a ton of fun designing a uniform for it lol. (I appear with permission ofc)

Her story in the au is fairly simple, she’s one of the more experienced and knowledgable handlers in the sanctuary after being transferred from the other wing of the sanctuary (she worked with seals, otters and on the occasion, sharks) to the mer wing. She works closely with the more stubborn merfolk due to her experience in animal handling. She also leads small tours because of her enthusam and passion for what she does! She still doesn’t swim (and yes she is still deathly afriad of it for now) but you can catch her talking with some of the mermaids after she’s finished work. She most enjoys working with the kids on field trips, but don’t let her bubbly personailty fool you, she’s a stubborn one. A strong arm and a stronger personality, she loves her job and has quite a time chipping past rough exteriors to understand merfolk better.

I’m in a ship mood. Just thinking about Ras’ ships and just how much I love them all. While I have a general ship playlist for Ras. These songs I heavily link to these ships:

I just can’t hear this song and not have a montage of their relationship developing and it ending with them slow dancing with their little girl between them as Ras sings this to them.

Their ship is in a few different verses, and no matter the verse this song just fits these two so well! I just picture Spoons singing this. In the modern fantasy she has it as her ringtone for him. In the Red Dead/Western verse, I just picture her singing it in her saloon. Tiny Cajun woman has her giant bear from the North.

Look these two are complete idiots when around each other. But they carry so many skeletons in their closet and so much pain. I hear this song and I instantly picture the moment it clicks they love each other. How the world will melt away and it’s just them.

This honestly their flag ship song. They are two different people, who just fall into place like a puzzle. Like two different worlds melting into one. And it’s great because I hear this song and I think of everything leading up to Sarah realizing she cares for him, despite her best efforts she fell in love. And I just see them dancing under the stars to this song. Because they really are fire and ice. Like Ras said about her eyes, she is a glacier, an iceberg. She hides her depth and people underestimate her strength. And Ras is like the thermal pathways of his father’s homeland, shaking the earth at his passing and spewing fire when under pressure.  Ras x Atreion ( @dalishflame )  Dark Waltz - Hayley Westenra

I can’t hear this song and not think of some aspect of their relationship. And it is kind of waltz these two are doing, isn’t it? A dance old and almost forgotten by Ras and something completely new to Atreion. I hear this and I just picture them waltzing around in a geode cave while the various stone glitter and reflect bioluminescence algae. Helgi in the back ground snapping pics and fist bumping the staff because they did it!

Honestly it’s because I remember Yue saying no kissing in their relationship because of past trauma. So I just hear this song and just see all these different moments where Ras wanted to kiss Yue but stopped and him finally just looking at him and being like, “So kiss me”

TFW you suddenly start sprouting scales, horns, and claws at random and all you know is that it fills you with a sourceless sense of dread and guilt... but the tiny Desi goth who runs the local occult shop just smiles and calls you Babygirl.

Currently this is a quick kitbash to test if I could make him scaly by using a geoshell, opacity maps, and an extremely basic scale shader with displacement. It turns out that I can! :D Later, I plan to make him a scaly shell with a fully custom texture that is more in line with his sprite art, using 3DCoat and Smart Materials.

I'd also like to try and give him his digitigrade dragon-legs, though that's a bit of a challenge because those only come as part of a full-body morph (FBM). While I can separate that out and still keep the basic rigging, I will lose all the helper morphs that prevent distortion when posing, so I'm going to have to manually correct for that in Zbrush every time I pose him.
