Hello, I love your books and all the queer and neurodivergent representation so much! MMU was the first book I read that I could actually relate to. I just wondered if maybe George and Alexander might've had crushes on each other when they were younger like Daisy and Hazel?

I love your books ( they're my special interest and I'm obsessed) and I can't wait for MUA 3!

You are so welcome! I think this is a very sensible headcanon - they had a similarly intense kind of friendship, and Weston is a much less friendly school than Deepdean, so they would have had to rely on each other a lot. I wouldn’t be surprised if romantic feelings happened!

I give you sports headcannons - mix of modern au and canon era (I was on wikipedia for like 45 minutes looking at sports)

Daisy:

- horsegirl Daisy

- absolutely used to pretend to be a horse on the playground

- she's never competed though she's just really good at riding horses

- obviously also good at parkour

- forever giving the maids a heart attack as a child by sitting atop of tall cabinets she'd climbed and saying boo

- decent at swimming and did a few swimming galas Yr7 - Yr8, but her love for it died out after DSS

George:

- he was a baby who cried a lot and so his mother used to take him on runs with her to calm him down

- this has stayed with him and he goes running before breakfast a lot

- has a lot of pent up energy that helps with endurance when running

- Lavinia often goes running with him

- really good at dancing, like waltzing and such, likes knowing the steps and finds it reassuring

- also really love the idea of figure skater or ballet dancer George

Aleks:

- Doesn't do it anymore, but had a scooter as a little boy and was revered by other 7 year olds because he could do cool tricks with it

- lowkey wants to get back into it except he's too tall for a scooter now

- can fence (his father made him and his brother learn)

- I can't decide if he's shit at sports or absolutely brilliant at them

- if we're saying he's good at sports, I imagine he's Weston School's sporty golden boy

- does triathlon and on the cricket team

- (Hazel always goes bright red when he's in his cricket uniform)

Hazel:

- bad at agility strength so she's shit at parkour (dw Hazel we all know George had to give you that shove over a wall in Case Of The Missing Treasure)

- but she's really good at standing her ground???

- she's really good at contact sport she just doesn't like them

- Lavinia reckons she'd be pretty good at lacrosse

- on the reserve hockey team, despite protests

- she actually gets into roller derby and her name is 2 Rights Don't Make A Wong

- Daisy ALWAYS cheers the loudest at her games

Lavinia:

- canonically good at tennis

- she pretty much sticks to tennis, she thinks 'why work on others when I could work on one sport and just get really good at it'

- she goes running with George like I said though

- it's a good warmup for tennis, and she doesn't have to think about much when doing it

- always fancied doing something like wrestling or boxing though

Kitty:

- always finding some unusual fitness class to go to (and drag Beanie along with her)

- think aerial hoops, or aquacise

- she can never stick with them for long though

- she hates getting sweaty, or muddy, or pushed over so despises sports at Deepdean

- but joins a synchronised swimming club and is actually getting really good at it, and really enjoys it

- especially the fact that looking pretty and presentable is like half the whole thing

Beanie:

- goes to all Kitty's unusual fitness classes like I said

- neutral on them, goes just to hang with Kitty

- like Daisy, good at horseriding, used to do a few dressage competitions as a teen

- did ballet as a toddler, sort of misses the baby classes where all you had to do was point your toes and you didn't have to think about the next steps or balancing or anything like that

I headcanon that George is really protective of all his friends but will never admit it ( evidence is this bit of The Hound of Weston School which is so cute!!). He would always notice if Hazel was nearing a shutdown but never notices when he is. He fusses about Alexander during the cross country races because of his asthma. If anyone is ill then they are not allowed to do anything until they are completely better ( he, of course, is back to work as soon as he can stand up without fainting). He makes Daisy wear scarves in winter. He is really good at giving advice but not very good at taking it. He never notices is he's getting overwhelmed but always notices if someone else is. He always lets Daisy borrow his noise cancelling headphones if she forgets hers.

In conclusion, while Hazel is a mum friend, George is even more so but will never admit it.

Eleven of my favourite photos I took in November 2023 and month summary

The photos are of; mushroom at Lakeside Country Park, sunset at Milkham in the New Forest, Mute Swans at Weston Shore, autumn leaves at Lakeside, shaggy scalycaps at Lakeside, more autumn leaves at Lakeside, Mallard at Lakeside, teasel at Lakeside, Fallow Deers at Bolderwood in the New Forest, ivy in Winchester and Herring Gull at Lakeside.

November was a month of splendour for me, from the spectacle of watching a Short-eared Owl quartering at Farlington Marshes to the vibrant autumnal colour that blanketed the landscape. It was another very strong month of observing mushrooms for me from amethyst deceiver in a very strong year I've had for them to shaggy scalycap and many more enjoyed. Flowers such as gorse, wild carrot, white deadnettle and daisy hung on to bring some nice colour to my walks still with hawthorn berries, rose hips and memorably lots of holly ever present. The nights drawing right in has brought some special sky scenes to enjoy with it being a great month of moons and rainbows for me too. There was still a sprinkling of insect sightings with the likes of Red Admiral butterflies and Common Darter dragonfly in sunnier parts of the month, with it being another great month of spiders especially the Long-bodied Cellar spider seen well many times at home where it's been notable to see Grey Silverfish too.

The return of Redwings and Fieldfares easing us into winter has been notable in my month's birdwatching, with Brent Geese too. It was a special day at Farlington Marshes at the heart of the month also getting amazing views of Bearded Tits and Marsh Harrier. On my Lakeside walks I have gone nicely into the exciting birding days of winter with different birds being about, most notably the two redhead Goosanders which it has been an honour to see a few times so close to home. Cormorant, Kingfisher, Mistle Thrush, Grey and Pied Wagtail, Siskins and returning Tufted Ducks have been other Lakeside highlights this month. Long-tailed Tit and Kestrel were other standout species this month. For mammals across the month at Lakeside and in the New Forest I was treated to gripping views of charming Roe and Fallow Deers seeing a young Roe at Lakeside and rutting action in the forest with the Fallows. I saw a fair few Grey Squirrels and enjoyed New Forest pannage pigs again too.

Good morning Amity Park, I'm your weatherman, Lance Thunder. Today's Thursday, May 5, and theres a 70% chance of rain. Highs are in the mid fifties and lows are in the low forties.

The fake giant cow at the Daisy’s Dairy Diner was brought to life yesterday. It destroyed multiple Gi-Normo 6000s, a line of monster trucks that were on display near the diner. It somehow flooded the area with milk as well, despite the fact that it is not a real cow. This cow was taken down shortly after the incident by Inviso-Bill.

Later that morning, Femalien, a famous movie monster, attacked Casper High School. She was promptly taken down by Inviso-Bill before she could harm any students. This attack was followed by Terminatra and Desiree attacking Parr Hill Park. Desiree then went on to attack Casper High School. It is unknown how two fictional characters were able to appear and attack Amity Park residents. We do however, believe that they have been dealt with as they haven’t been seen since.

It seems that Wesley Weston was lying about the supposed video evidence that he had collected. The tapes were obviously tampered with in an attempt to spread dangerous rumours about a fellow classmates.

The Fentons will likely be driving today so the roads are not safe

You know the thing about djats is that I can understand not wanting to actually do a story about Fleetwood Mac. Writing a novel or show about real people who are still alive can get messy for a lot of reasons, and it can be limiting creatively. But from what I understand (I know nothing about the band’s history myself, I’m just basing this on what others have said lol), they really watered everything down compared to the irl events the book is based on. Like if you’re going the fictional route, why not go in the other direction and make shit even crazier? I thought this was supposed to be entertainment? I didn’t get past the first couple episodes cause I just found it all pretty boring tbh.

It absolutely can get messy and I don't necessarily fault the show or the book for not being about them, it's just my personal taste is I would be more interested in seeing an interpretation of events that led to an album, that led to songs that we still hear in shows, in commercials etc? And I think it's actually just because of the framing tbqh, like if it wasn't set up like a Behind The Music/series of interviews I don't think the inspiration for the book would be on my mind the way it is? Like even though Almost Famous is semi-autobiographical, it's about a teenage journalist writing about a fictional band for The Rolling Stone and I was totally cool with that and quite like the movie but it's just the framing of This Is A Documentary About A Famous Fictional Band that makes me go, you mean a band that's basically Fleetwood Mac but not actually Fleetwood Mac. Lmao.

And exactly, like, Fleetwood Mac was a lot lmao, like we're supposed to see this kind of tension between Billy and Daisy:

Many of the lyrics from the hit songs we know and love are Nicks and Buckingham taking swipes at each other.

Buckingham wrote 'Second Hand News', 'Never Going Back Again' and 'Go Your Own Way' about Nicks who duly responded with 'Dreams'.

Nicks says she was particularly insulted by a lyric in 'Go Your Own Way' which she's continually had to perform during her career, telling Rolling Stone: "I very much resented him telling the world that 'packing up, shacking up' with different men was all I wanted to do. He knew it wasn't true. It was just an angry thing he said.

"Every time those words would come out onstage, I wanted to go over and kill him. He knew it, so he really pushed my buttons through that."

and then there was this

Stevie Nicks then fell madly in love with founding band member Mick Fleetwood, two years after she joined the band,

"Well, here's a big one for ya. I had started to see Mick Fleetwood romantically. I had a very dear friend whose name was Sara [Recor] who just went after Mick. And they fell in love, and the next thing, Sara's husband is calling me to say 'Sara moved in with Mick this morning. And I just thought you might wanna know.'

"That was three months into a 13-month album. So I lost Mick, which honestly wasn't that big of a deal because that was a rocky relationship. But losing my friend Sara? That was a huge blow. Sara was banished from the studio by the rest of the band... No one was speaking, and I wouldn't even look directly at Mick. That went on for months. And it was great fodder for writing! The songs poured out of us."

and then there was this

Christine McVie began an affair with Martin Birch, Fleetwood Mac's married sound engineer in 1973. The band then got rid of Birch (and Bob Weston, the aforementioned Fleetwood Mac guitarist who’d been having an affair with Fleetwood’s wife).

Christine started a relationship with the band’s lighting director, Curry Grant, which they've all admitted caused mega tension for the whole group.

Now John McVie talks candidly about his struggles with alcohol at the time and how he doesn't blame Christine for leaving him.

Like everybody was with everybody and everybody caused tension for everybody, it wasn't just two members of the group having this meant-to-be explosive relationship that was great musically and terrible personally, everyone's entanglements permeated everything and having not read the book I expected it to have that kind of energy where it's just complete mess and that's not happening so I'm just like ... is this ever going to get messy or...?

So I recently bought a stuffed toy cow for my dog at a yard sale. It’s absolutely adorable but whenever I look at it… it seems familiar. Well turns out I wrote a fic about it LOL! I wrote this back in 2019 and never shared it, and I actually have several other fics from this verse that I never shared, so I’m sharing one now! Please enjoy 😊

Summary: A lovey goes MIA.

The screaming is driving me crazy and worsening my headache that has started as a result. It’s been two and a half hours and there is no sign of it stopping anytime soon. As long as it’s gone she’s gonna scream. And it’s not a tantrum, she is genuinely distraught and I understand, but she needs to calm down or she’s gonna make herself sick. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I should probably explain….

Each of the kids has a “lovey” - a special stuffed animal that was given to them at birth by Nana and Papa, and just naturally became a security object. Dallas has a Bunny, Walker has a dog, Wade & Weston have elephants, and Daisy’s is a lamb.

Each kid also has a different level of attachment to their loveys. For example they all sleep with it every night. Walker and Wade will carry theirs around the house, mostly to the living room on movie nights. Dallas and Weston aren’t attached as much and their loveys always stay in their room. Daisy carries hers all over the house, but she’s 2 and doesn’t leave the house much.

Then there’s Dixie. Dixie’s lovey is a cow, affectionately named Moo-Moo, and it goes everywhere with her.

Literally. Everywhere.

She sleeps with it, eats with it, plays with it, and it sits on the counter when she takes a bath. It goes outside to play, to ballet, karate, and even to kindergarten- kept safe in her backpack.

I have to sneak it away when she’s asleep so I can wash it, because it has to be with her at all times, even if it’s just her bag. Dixie and Moo-Moo are inseparable and if they aren’t together then it’s defcon one! A nuclear missile is headed your way. The world is ending!

Which brings us back to the current situation in which Dixie has been screaming and sobbing uncontrollably for going on 3 hours.

Moo-Moo is missing.

When we get home from school, the kids get out their homework while I Prepare a snack. Then we all sit at the table together and complete it before practices, recitals, and games.

Well today, when Dixie got to the table and proceeded to get her homework and her lovey from her bag, Moo-Moo wasn’t there, and panic ensued.

We checked her bags, nothing.

We checked the car, nothing.

We checked her room, nothing.

We checked the entire house, nothing.

We even checked the yard, garage, and barn, still nothing.

My daughter is sobbing and I can’t do anything about it but hold her and promise that we will find her Moo-Moo. While silently praying that it’s a promise I can keep.

Jay returns from checking the playground at the school. Unfortunately the building was already locked up so he couldn’t search her classroom.

Dixie runs into his arms with her red rimmed eyes and a tear stained face and asks “Daddy did you find her?”

My heart breaks for her all over again.

Jay squeezes her tight before he responds, “I’m sorry baby girl, I didn’t. The school was already closed.”

She starts crying anew and Jay just holds her. It’s really all we can do at this point, at least until morning.

Dinner is a somber affair, Dixie just picks at her food and scoots it around her plate, while sniffling.

“Dixie baby, you need to eat honey” I encourage softly, she responds by putting a solitary green bean in her mouth and chewing slowly. Jay and I lock eyes across the table, silently agreeing that we won’t push her to eat.

The bedtime routine isn’t much better, but baths and teeth brushing are completed. The screaming has stopped but in its place tears just silently stream down her pink flushed cheeks.

I put Dixie in bed with us and sandwich her between me and Jensen. We both know she won’t sleep- that she’ll fight it until the exhaustion wins over and she can’t fight anymore, but she needs some extra attention. Our normally loud, fierce, little firecracker is quiet,sad, and subdued so Mama and Daddy snuggles are in store.

The alarm beeps at 6am and I swing my arm down on the snooze button without opening my eyes. After fighting to stay awake, Dixie finally succumbed to sleep around 2:30. So to little girls who’s bedtime is 8:30 and a Mama and Daddy who are normally in bed by 10:30, the morning is not a welcome affair!

The damn thing buzzes again at 6:05 and I can feel Jay shift to sitting up.

“Darlin’? C’mon we gotta get up”

“Ugggggh”

“Need to get the tumbleweeds fed’n off to school honey”

“I knooooow” I respond, sitting up and jutting my lip out to pout at my husband. He just chuckles, he knows I’m not a morning person.

It’s slow going but we manage to get everyone dressed, fed, and in the car. Jay heads to work and I drive the kids to school. There’s a pit in my stomach as I park the car and the kids start to unload, because this is our last chance and if Moo-Moo isn’t in the school building I don’t know what we’re gonna do.

Dallas and Walker head to their classrooms, and I drop the twins at the preschool, so with Daisy on my hip I then take Dixie’s hand and we walk to her class. I can feel her hesitation as we approach the door, seeing my daughter so out of character just crushes me, I squeeze her hand for reassurance as we go in. She walks to her cubby, and there’s nothing. No Moo-Moo. The tears start falling again and now there are tears in my eyes. I squat down and open my arms to envelope her in a giant hug, at the same time that Miss Maison, her teacher, approaches us.

“Everything alright over here?” She asks softly. She can see the tears in Dixie’s eyes.

I shake my head in the negative.

“Actually no. Dixie’s lovey Moo-Moo has gone missing and this was the last place we had to check”

She smiles reassuringly and turns to her desk.

“Is this who your looking for?” She asks and both Dixie and I turn abruptly to face her. There on the desk is the beloved stuffed cow!

“MOO-MOO!” Dixie shouts and runs to the spot scooping the lovey into her arms and squeezing tight.

“I found her on the floor of the cubby room this morning” Miss Maison says “ she must have fallen from your backpack when you put your books inside”.

Personally, I don’t care what happened, I’m just happy we found it! I quickly pull my phone out and text my husband, We got her!

I can see Dixie yawning already, so I decide then to take her back home. She had a rough night and frankly I don’t want that damn cow out of my sight!

Dixie fell asleep in the car on the ride home, so I know it was best to keep her. All is well again with my little family, order has been restored! And as for Moo-Moo? Let’s just say she now has a permanent “leash” that gets tethered to Dixie’s bags or the belt loop of her jeans when she’s out of the house. I’m not gonna risk another instance where Moo-Moo goes missing!
