During this time he dispersed most of his wealth throughout these islands to cover repairs and ensure the people were taken care, had food, and rooves over their heads. In Shanks' territories, no one goes hungry and the people are healthy and happy.

Most of his wealth is stolen from crews foolish enough to come for his head.

Shanks has no issues parting with his treasure (though it does occasionally make is crew panic), as he knows he'll always be able to get it back with little to no effort. It's far more important to him to make people happy and make sure they're taken care of.

Good that you ask 😁 parts of this post has been sitting around in my drafts forever. Because I love bottom Guren and I've also been thinking, why is this so good?

Usually I am a sucker of switching roles and I love seeing it both ways. All my favorites ships have a tendency to be unclear who tops. But there’s something about Guren in the bottom role that is so impactful and which makes his relationship with Shinya special.

I mean, there's a reason I write 90% Bottom Guren (and 100% vibes). 😄

Why I feel bottom Guren is more special

In general, Guren is a guy that always tries to be the one in control because he cares about everyone loyal to him. He feels like he has to make decisions and he has to care of everyone. Basically he's all the time putting his personal needs aside and for the sake of others. We see Guren often being exhausted by the fact he has to stay in control and how he struggles with keeping up his facade and not show feelings. He never allows himself to be weak and mostly it's not because he prefers to take the lead but because he feels he has to take it for the sake of others.

So Guren ends up just wanting to please everyone else, except himself. And Guren would also carry that behavior into a relationship. Guren would make sure the other person would feel good by totally disregarding his own needs, always trying to stay in control.

But with Shinya, it's different. When Guren is with Shinya, Shinya will always call him out for trying to be strong. Throughout the novels we see Shinya for that often and we also see Guren thereby getting more comfortable around Shinya. Though Guren still tries to hold this behavior up, Shinya will notice it and tell Guren to stop pretending.

This means, whenever Guren is around him, he doesn't have to keep up his attitude of being strong and protective. He doesn't have to be the leader anymore, because Shinya doesn't expect him to be one. While most of the girls in love with Guren expect him to be their prince and savoir, Shinya doesn't want Guren to put on a mask.

Shinya doesn't expect Guren to take care or more, doesn't even want Guren to put aside his needs for him. At the same time, Shinya accepts Guren's behavior and doesn't try to change him. Thereby he's creating a save space for Guren to be able to stop pretending.

With Shinya, Guren can give up control and allow himself to be weak. He doesn't have to be strong, he doesn't have to put himself second behind everyone else. And as we see Guren being exhausted to always take care, to always be in the lead, in my opinion, it will be good for Guren to have this safe space with Shinya to relax for once.

That's why I have a stronger preference for Guren as the bottom. He is so used to taking control, that it is refreshing to see him letting someone else take this control and be the one that is being pleased instead of constantly trying to please others. It's what makes his relationship with Shinya special. Guren fully trusts Shinya and among all others, he would be the one Guren most likely is willing to give the control.

Apart from that I guess also part of the reason I love Guren as the bottom is also that he's a stubborn tsundere. 😁

Why bottom Guren can be disliked

On the other hand, my reason for being so in love with it, may be mainly the reason why some people don't like it. Whenever I see Guren preferred as top, it's mainly because "Guren wouldn't give up his control". And I understand, in the anime, he doesn't look like the guy that would want to get laid by his best friend. And Guren is stubborn. Like I explained above. It's his thing to be in command. But well, usually.

I think being in control and a leader in certain areas doesn't necessarily mean this is also valid for the bedroom. People in high positions with a lot of responsibility can have submissive tendencies. That's not uncommon. Because they already take over a lot at work, so that they don't want to continue in the other areas of their life.

Preferences

But well, in the end, it comes to preference. And of course, also top/bottom dynamics are preferences of the people (character) involved. It's not fixed. That's why switching isn't that uncommon in relationships.

I personally just enjoy seeing Guren be able to let go for once. Because for me it's the more healty relationship. Even though I bet Shinya wouldn't have a problem with being the bottom as well. (I'm sure he would) Shinya as a power bottom is really fun.
