Can we talk about how the whole post+ thing on a site like tumblr could potentially become dangerous? (CW in tags) So far I haven’t seen anything saying they are going to limit monetization to people who uphold community guidelines.

My concern is that there are entire large communities here dedicated to promoting self harm, EDs etc.. Tumblr staff doesn’t even have a handle on these communities as is and who’s to say they won’t be able to monetize their blogs and get paid for being sick.

Just look what’s happened with the Eugenia Cooney situation on YouTube. Tumblr tends to be a lot more unmonitored and I worry that this will be dangerous for people who are vulnerable and they will have more incentive to trigger themselves further.

I know this might sound like a stretch but I just feel like tumblr is one of the worst platforms you could introduce monetization features. It really feels like the wild west out here sometimes.
