Ahh no why would you do this to me??! I guess right now it’s The Hobbit, because I’m writing more set during that story at the moment and i watched those movies more recently.

Ok so. I love them both very much but again I’m in a The Hobbity mood so today we’re going with Bilbo.

So I know that Viggo’s toe is iconic, but the amount of crap that the rest of the cast gave Orlando for the ribs is absolutely priceless. So we’re going with the ribs.

The Nazgûl because i don’t think I’ve ever been as scared as I was during that scene in Fellowship in the Inn so I’ve got to give them credit. Plus, they have a fricken awesome musical theme.

✎ BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Dorsey Corcoran is the younger brother of Ed Corcoran and the son of Monica Corcoran and step-son to Richard Macklin. An avid Mama’s boy, he told his family everything. Always. His step-father would often beat him to try to make him a tougher man, sometimes on a daily basis, which was ultimately why his mother decided to leave him and break their claim. There was an incident with a recoilless hammer that sent Dorsey to the hospital and after using her last excuse to keep Richard out of jail, she picked up and moved with her children while the police dealt with her ex. Dorsey was just entering high school. A restraining order was granted, but no other action was taken.

The loss of half of the working adults in the house meant that money was really tight from there on out. They had to relocate to a new state in order to get away from Richard and with what they had, all they could afford was to move into the ghetto. Because of his childhood, he was softer spoken than most and kept to himself more than others. Millie sewed more expensive labels into her children’s clothing to try to make them feel more worthy of their peer’s attention. Deep down, Dorsey felt bad because he felt like it was his fault that they had to move and it was his fault that they had so little, because his father had chosen to beat him and neither of the two women in the house. Some of the things his father had said would sit with him forever. But there was a rough looking guy that went to the same school as him that he noticed pretty quickly. He found himself flirting in subtle ways that weren’t noticed or noticeable. He’d share his school books, or offer materials if Reg didn’t have any of his own. This was the first time he��d dared to really think about his sexuality and he knew because of this boy that he was gay.

At eighteen he was marked a Submissive and didn’t really pause to think about it. He didn’t have time to, the thought that his mother was working herself to the bone to keep the house afloat made him go out and get a job as a stripper. It was a desperation move, but he didn’t feel bad about it. It didn’t come easy to him, but when he figured it out he made good money. Graduating high school meant that Dorsey thought he would have to say goodbye to the cute boy that he’d never been able to make himself hold a whole conversation with, but then Reg moved in two doors down and then the following school year they wound up at the same community college. Life was looking up.

Richard wasn’t done with his family though, and one day he found them. He’d been looking the whole time, paying private investigators to look for them. When he found them he was enraged to find out his son was a Submissive and a stripper. He watched the house and on a day when he knew that nobody else would be there, he was waiting for Dorsey when he got home from work and brutally beat Dorsey with a recoilless hammer again, the hammer being ritualistic now and a symbol of their past and the moment that split up the family. He screamed and luckily enough, Reg Huggins was close enough to hear and saved him. The police were called this time and his father was put in jail. When questioned later, Macklin stated that Dorsey’s last words before he was knocked unconscious were, “Stop it, Daddy I’m sorry, I love you.”

Reg came to visit him in the hospital and that sense that he would lose Dorsey forever is what prompted him to finally talk to the other boy. Unknown to Dorsey, he’d been being watched and flirted with too. He just didn’t know. The two of them ended up in a relationship very quickly and it was a whirlwind that brought them to start a claim when Dorsey was twenty years old. They’re better together and they push each other to be better, which is what has brought them to Dalton Sanctuary too. Alone, they might have continued down paths that neither was completely happy with. Together, they’ve pursued their education instead and love their jobs. With Reg’s help, he also got help for his mental health and the bipolar diagnosis and the medication he was given have helped him feel more stable. It could have easily been Dorsey’s future to simply follow in Reg’s shadow and he would have been more than happy to do nothing more than be his Dom’s house husband, but Reg wasn’t that kind of Dom. He pushed Dorsey to find his own muse, and he couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Now he can help other people in the same way that Reg helped him. He can preach about how much D/s relationships can help people. He plans on captaining an astronomy club as well, and happily does whatever Reg needs him to do in his class as well.

The Rise of Skywalker

I’ve never craved death during a Star Wars movie before, so jot that down.

This was not a movie, this was a 1940s serial in a trench coat masquerading as a movie. This was vignettes. (which yes Star Wars has some of its origins there but you took the wrong lessons from it).

There’s gonna be spoilers below but I am going to say that I enjoyed The Last Jedi and would take it over this any day. The Rise of Sith and Phantom Menace have structure compared to this. Yes I think I’d even take Attack of the Clones over this.

Was there pacing? nope. Structure? A story? not really, this was checkmark plotlines. Scalzi was really generous in his review but he was right, they tried to cram three movies worth in this but what you end up with is a writer’s room of people shouting their ideas and nothing was trimmed, hardly any connective threads. Like they knew this is the last one we’ll do with Disney’s current strategy so let’s pull out all the stops, the brakes, oh hell there’s the cliff.

There was another reviewer that mentioned trying to please everyone you end up pleasing no one and i think that’s what happened here too.

I don’t even really have coherent thoughts about it, I don’t really want to think about what I didn’t like about it. But set your watches to Rey and Kylo battling for a transport, I thought to myself “god I wish that transport would hit me.” The second one was at the kiss. And it’s not that Kylo Ren can’t have a redemption storyline (he so badly wants to be Vader, right) but that kiss....oh no that dog won’t hunt. It is only after the fact that it’s played as a last act but it doesn’t take away the ick.

I’ll focus on the positive. Every actor really gave it their best in this, I have nothing but love for them. Domhnall Gleeson in particular (huh who could the spy be, could it be the person that hates Kylo the most, that wasn’t hard, but I’m glad he got to sneer some more). Palpatine, oh Palpatine had so much fun! all that was missing were milky eyes! Over the top, never change palpy.

Speaking of Palpatine, the scene with all the Sith in the Evil Auditorium reminded me a lot of Dark City. Mr. Book.

Some random:

-How does hyperspace work? no one knows.

- Hey it’s Dominic Monaghan! Hi Dominic! Yes we see you dom.

- (Meanwhile Greg Grunberg is also back and gets to die while flying a plane, vs Dying after crashing a plane)

-The First Order: Equal Opportunity Storm Troopers!

- Harrison Ford looked good.

- “I don’t think there was a single bolt of Force Lightning that didn’t bounce back off Master Windu Rey’s lightsabre directly back into your face.” Twice in a lifetime.

- We were really force fed a lot of obvious cute droid moments interrupting scenes, huh?

- The vignette-style scenes also made the Leia bits more jarring and not in a good way.

I really don’t have much else to say. I was trying to approach it with an open mind but got crushed. Solo is looking better.....

I forgot the extremely no-homo look Poe has a mysterious sexy girl in a helmet he lusts for. uh-huh

Notes on Shameless episode 7 season 8

Liam: I hoped that recasting Liam would result in Liam getting something to do this season but I suppose not.

Debbie: what was the point of Dr Dick? Surely Debbie’s not showing up due to being in prison stunt would be enough to get her fired if that was the main goal.

Carl: I like Carl and Kassadi, hope to see more of them. They have better chemistry than Carl and Dom ever did imo. Also of course Carl is on Team Ian. Carl for life.

Frank: don’t care about this Canada plot, or Frank trying to get another job, but William H Macy always cracks me up.

Kev and V: same as Frank. Got some laughs out of it but I don’t care for the plot.

Lip: Jeremy Allen White is a total fucking powerhouse. Wish they’d channel Lip’s energy into something else instead of the professor and Brad. helping Ian? Getting a better job? Going to community college to take a step towards getting his science/engineering degree? Even just focusing more on his own sobriety than that of others. If the show wants Lip in a caretaking role like he’s had with Youens, Brad and Brad’s baby, why don’t they get him to look after Liam, Carl, Debbie and Ian. Those kids desperately need it. Which brings me to....

Fiona: it stuck me when Fiona was ranting to the door dude about how she raised 5 kids, does she realise that she’s still got 3 kids who she is legally responsible for? I know Frank’s been looking after Liam, but that’s a disaster waiting to happen, and I doubt she’ll take responsibility for it if something happens to Liam. Remember when he used Liam as ransom? Or when he went begging with him? Why on earth would she leave him alone with Frank for any extended period of time? Fiona’s been neglecting Carl and Debbie on varying levels since season 4, and I know they’re growing up, but just because they’re acting like adults doesn’t mean they’re adults. And they’re both making horrible decisions. She needs to set boundaries and find out what’s going on with them. Not let Debbie take interstate trips with that older dude and get herself into serious trouble, or let Carl hold addicts hostage in her basement (!!!). She’s really failing these kids imo. With Ian, he’s obviously going through something, off his meds related or not, and she’s been psyching him up. She also probably shouldn’t be referring to her mentally ill brother as ‘psycho’ but whatever I guess. I liked the last scene with Ian in the bedroom.

I really hope this Ford guy isn’t a new love interest for Fiona. I’m still holding out for Fiona x Nessa, although it’s starting to look unlikely at this point. All I want is Fiona and Nessa being cute and in love, is that too much to ask?

Ian: ok, so, Ian’s storyline is really complex and I’m not sure where I stand on it yet. He may be off his meds, or he might be taking them and need a dosage adjustment or to try a new medication. Grief, circumstance instability and just general life stress can exacerbate bipolar disorder. He’s showing a lot of signs of delusions (or at least a fractured sense of reality/importance) and poor decision making. I love Ian and I hope he is ok. And I hope that if he’s not ok that he’ll get the support and help he needs. Why isn’t Ian in regular therapy again? I think he should be able to afford it with his EMT job. Cameron Monaghan is killin it as usual.

Trevor: I like Trevor but he needs to shut up about his damn kids. I get it man, you work with disadvantaged lgbt youth. It’s important. but I think you can put it aside for one minute while your sort of boyfriend is obviously going through some shit.
