day 99

i have NEARLY finished the skirt for my ren faire fit i just gotta get a few finishing details added and also get the undershirt bleached (bc i got a bunch of makeup on it at last years fair and shit Stained) but THEN i can show yall the final fit!!

#day 99 #year 5 #aradia megido #homestuck #its gonna be cute #i was so fucking stressed abt this one because like.#i bought my fabric and i was like oh yeah dude this is toooootally more than enough for a circle skirt #went to finally cut things #realized i only had enough for a half-circle skirt and it would end up with a bunch of weirdly-shaped scrap at the end #(ie i would have to do a bunch of weird piecing to make the waistband and pockets and such)#and like honestly a half-circle skirt was NOT enough volume for me i need my skirts swooshy #so i was like well. okay. i think i can optimize my fabric usage more if i draft a paneled skirt #but this of course required..... Math.#and unfortunately. i was an art major. so. there was a lot of struggling #BUT I DID IT. THERE WAS STILL A LIIIIITTLE BIT OF PIECING THAT HAD TO BE DONE BUT IT IS MINIMAL AND CAMOUFLAGED PRETTY WELL #and also this is for a ren faire primarily bc i dont wear a lot of skirts in day-to-day #SO. economical fabric usage is absolutely period accurate. even though none of the rest of my outfit or techniques are.#basically all thats left for me to do is add pockets and the closure at the back #i meant to add the pockets as i was doing the main construction but i got too excited and forgor #so theres gonna be some seam ripping but nothing too bad

#i’ve been experimenting with different watercolour techniques #and most recently space #so i cut my watercolour paper up into smaller bits to experiment with but i ended up really liking these!#the second one came first and then i got the idea for the first #i used masking fluid for the second panel. for the stars and the ghost #and the stars on the first panel are made with watered down acrylic paint and flicking a toothbrush which is always fun lmao #anyway!! i’m happy with these!!!#watercolour #mads art #mads makes a post #it’s also open to interpretation :)#ghost socks

I can’t express how badly I want Gojo to have an upbringing that is extremely abnormal but loving in equal proportion to the abnormality

#canon doesn’t exist to me if I close my eyes #I so wholeheartedly want him to grow up in a world where everyone in his clan/family loves him and not just for his six eyes #to grow up with grandma’s cut fruit and a million aunts and uncles who all want to hold their precious baby #the boy they’re going to raise to rule #and everyone takes turns guarding him so their techniques are always fresh but that’s means he’s always surrounded by love from so many #they’re very deranged about all of it #letting him play with knives as a baby but not in a neglectful way #they’re just completely engrossed in watching their nuclear weapon of a toddler juggle sharp blades #and praising him for it when he nails a would be assassin right between the eyes with one #just the least child friendly but still adoring upbringing he can have so he ends up being as unhinged as he is

in an effort to rest my left hand from typing and also my usual exercises in doing random shit I don't have a lot of experience with, I have exported some .bmps and used the auto-tracer in inkscape (which i have done before for other things) so that i can turn this logo into an svg file with consistent angles and, you know, resizeability and sleekness.

The main thing I'm doing here is cleaning it up (fixing the angles in particular) and then I have to figure out how I want to do the shapes for the flame colors, which I'll probably do manually cause the color quantization tracing mode doesn't quite do what I need it to do lol

I don't even know if Seth is going to definitely be called Scratch (have been spitballing a variety of vigilante-friendly names in my notes) so I probably shouldn't be putting the effort into this on the off chance they end up called something like Aetherflame instead (lol) (like actually that's one of the names in my list) but this is the logo I have, so, you know.

anyway, practice, right? :P

#my cyst is actually not really any worse than usual but it seems i've been typing so much that my wrist has started to hurt occasionally #i can't imagine my typing setup (a large full-sized keyboard sitting on top of my laptop) is helping #i mean it's angled up which is inconvenient for other reasons but there's only so much i can do here ergonomically LOL #wipnadiart #arghdesign #scratchverse #scratch #FUN FACT: I was originally planning to go into graphic design in college! I Did Not Do That and i didn't learn anything about it at all #so this is me uhhh learning by doing which is my usual technique (cough spider-man modding)#(i ended up with a language studies focus and an art history subfocus after transferring to a different school and graduating there)#(this was less out of the blue than it seems; my original-original plan was in fact to major in Japanese and iirc minor in graphic design)#(neither of those things happened in part because they cut the number of japanese language programs at my first college lol)#(which led to me taking ancient greek and linguistics 101)#(which then led to me taking more linguistics classes and mandarin and arabic lol)

My Deltarune Pet Peeve is criticizing Toriel for being an emotiobally absent mother, making a speech about how all of Toriel's flaws are major problems in Kris's life, ignoring she's a single working mom with a full-time job in which she can't afford to snap at anyone because she's the authority figure in the room, because she's the emotional pillar for a lot of people, and then say nothing about how Asgore 'forgets his kids physical boundaries' 'unemployed to the point he's facing eviction' 'maintains a facade of strength when he's a deppressed mess' Dreemurr might've affected Kris's ability to care for themselves. Or even regarding Asriel, who had the time to look after Kris, and a better place to ask them what's affecting them, and a tracked history of maintaining distance from Kris while his friends bully them, but who doesn't get entire paragraphs described to how he might've created Kris's dependent state.

It takes more than one parent to raised a child y'know???

(This isn't a post to shit on Asriel OR Asgore. For all their failings, they're flawed but kind people who want to help people. Asriel himself was young when his parents divorced, and presumably couldn't rely on anyone for his own problems. Asgore... was a cop, which IS a moral failing, but he also doesn't deserve shit for being at the butt end of society, unemployed, alone, being C. Holiday's financial chew toy, and without the ability to ask for help without being a huge burden for somebody else. But if you are capable of understanding that, then you are also capable of understanding Toriel has not had the freedom to suddenly intervene in her child's life without fear of 'being an over-controlling parent', and making Kris's situation worse.)

Toriel IS aware Kris has problems, that's why she pushes them to go outside and connect to people! It's why she gets so happy Susie's there! It's why she asks Alphys how they're doing!

Toriel is also probably aware that Kris is more than a bit sensitive, that they like their privacy, that pushing them too hard will make them deppressed and keep on having self-esteem issues! It's why she's so hesitant to actually intervene!

All things considered, Toriel is a good mother, of course people like her, and more definitely, Kris likes her.
