https://www.yesmagazine.org/environment/2022/07/15/navajo-nation-citizen-science-pollution
Methane pollution is poorly tracked, so Diné activists are monitoring it themselves.
From behind her FLIR GF320 infrared camera, Kendra Pinto sees plumes of purple smoke otherwise invisible to the naked eye. They’re full of methane and volatile organic compounds, and they’re wafting out of an oil tank in New Mexico’s San Juan Basin.
Pinto, a member of the Diné (Navajo) community and field advocate with environmental group Earthworks, relies on this device in her fight to keep her community’s air clean. She lives in the Eastern Agency of the Navajo Nation, home to booming oil and gas production.
“When I walk outside, I can’t just think about fresh air. I’m thinking about the VOCs. I’m thinking about the methane that I’m breathing in, because I know what’s out there,” Pinto said. “I see it all the time.”
She’s one of countless citizen scientists across the country who are tracking and reporting environmental harms committed by the oil and gas industry to regulators. And here, there are many: The Environmental Defense Fund estimates that each year, New Mexico’s oil and gas companies emit more than 1.1 million metric tons of methane, a greenhouse gas around 86 times more potent in its warming potential than carbon dioxide over a 20-year period. Much of this comes from wasted natural gas—$271 million of it in this state alone, according to the EDF. It leaks out of faulty equipment and is intentionally expelled through the processes of venting and flaring, in which excess, unrefined natural gas is released or burned from oil wells and refineries to eliminate waste or reduce pressure buildups.
This is bad for the planet—high volumes of methane released into the atmosphere accelerate the pace of the climate crisis. It’s also bad for the people who live around it who are exposed to the pollutants that typically come along with methane emissions, like benzene, a carcinogen, and PM2.5 and PM10—particulate matter small enough to get lodged deep in the lungs. Pinto said her neighbors experience disproportionately high rates of headaches, nosebleeds, allergies, and respiratory issues, like sinus and throat discomfort.
“I think the scariest thing about methane is it’s odorless,” Pinto said. “It’s a silent killer. And if my neighbors are breathing it in, that’s worrisome.”
These emissions and the fossil fuel development that causes them have long been “insufficiently regulated,” said Jon Goldstein, senior director of regulatory and legislative affairs at EDF. In 2020, then-president Donald Trump rolled back Obama-era regulations on methane that effectively eliminated the requirement that oil and gas companies monitor and repair methane leaks in their infrastructure.
The Senate voted to reinstate them in April 2021, and last November, the Biden administration announced it would introduce even more comprehensive regulations in an interagency effort to crack down on emissions from the oil and gas sector. As part of the plan, the Environmental Protection Agency proposed its own rules, which include a requirement that states reduce methane emissions from thousands of sources nationwide, and a provision that encourages the use of new technology designed to find major leaks. A final methane rule is expected to be implemented later this year.
The Navajo Nation, too, is taking things into its own hands: The Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency is currently considering adopting a permitting program to regulate methane from oil and gas development on its land.
Here, methane emissions from oil and gas companies are 65% higher than the national average, seeping out of pipelines, oil rigs, and the like. The San Juan Basin, some 150 miles northwest of Santa Fe, has received a failing grade from the American Lung Association for ozone pollution, or smog, the result of the combination between VOCs and radiation from sunlight.
Exposure to ozone has been tied to degraded respiratory health and asthma attacks, and it’s typically seen in cities, Goldstein said.
“The San Juan Basin isn’t home to large cities,” he said. In San Juan County, ozone is the result of the widespread build-out of oil and gas wells; approximately half of the county’s 50,000 residents who identify as Indigenous live within half a mile of those wells, according to EDF.
Catching emissions at the source will be crucial to changing this legacy. And where regulators can’t (or won’t) step in, residents like Pinto are. The federal government is now relying upon community monitoring, or work that citizens do to contribute to public understanding of the scope of air pollution near fossil fuel sites, a development that Eric Kills A Hundred, tribal energy program manager at EDF, believes will be “huge.”
The EPA’s methane proposal includes a plan to implement a program to “empower the public to detect and report large emission events for appropriate follow-up by owners and operators,” according to an agency news release.
During the comment period for the EPA’s proposed community monitoring program, members of the petroleum industry questioned whether the agency has the authority to establish it at all, primarily objecting to the idea that air quality monitoring be conducted by entities other than agencies and producers themselves, E&E News reported in May.
But Pinto said groups like Earthworks have a track record of doing this work long before federal regulators began tapping them for their data collection.
“Documenting these types of emissions is important because no one else is really doing it,” she said. “Even the agencies that are regulating this type of thing. Because we’re in a rural area, what can they actually capture when they come out here? Are they going to more than 100 sites?”
Kills A Hundred said these efforts are not only about what the Navajo Nation can contribute to government data on methane pollution, they’re also about empowering the community to play a role in stopping it.
“Having been the stewards of the land for so long,” he said, “it’s just so important for these communities to be active and raise their voice.”

Happy Birthday Nicholas Andrew Argyll Campbell, better known as Nicky, born in Edinburgh, on April 10th 1961.
Best known for hosting Wheel of Fortune with fellow Scot Carol Smillie, but now the main show we might know him for is the very good Long Lost Family which aims to reunite close relatives after years of separation, often the people featured have been, like Nicky himself adopted, his "born" name was Nicholas Lackey he was adopted at four days old. His biological mother Stella was unmarried and had travelled from Ireland to give birth. Although she sent Christmas cards for the first five years of Nicky's life, they had no direct contact. It was not until he was in his 20's that Nicky decided to try and track down Stella and his biological father Joseph.
Although he discovered that his biological heritage was Irish, Nicky still thinks of himself as a Scot and it's his adoptive family, the Campbells, that he's closest to.
He was educated at the independent school Edinburgh Academy. His adoptive mother was a psychiatric social worker and his adoptive father a publisher of maps.
Nicky Campbell gained a history degree from Aberdeen University, and then became a jingle writer for Northsound Radio. At university, Campbell's best friend had been the actor Iain Glen.
Campbell went on to present the breakfast show there before crossing the border to join London's Capital Radio in 1986. Just a year later Nicky Campbell moved to Radio 1 where he had a variety of slots before moving to BBC Radio Five Live in October 1997. He regularly hosted Top of the Pops from 1988 to 1991 and again from 1994 to 1997.
He currently presents The Big Questions on BBC One and the aforementioned Long Lost Family, as well as his presenting he has written and co-produced a jazz swing album for singer and actor Mark Moraghan. As well as recording an album with the multi talented Kate Robbins. He is the director of a recording company who supply original music fro TV and films. On Radio Campbell has won seven Sony Awards, including a Gold Award in 2007 for the Radio 5 Live Breakfast programme as "Best News and Current Affairs Programme"
Nicky is a Patron of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering as well as he supports wildlife conservation and has works closely with Will Travers, Virginia McKenna and the Born Free Foundation.
In 2017 he made a documentary for the Women at War series for BBC1 with his adoptive mother Sheila Campbell.[18] He found out more about his her role in World War 2 and her experiences as a radar operator on D-Day.[Also that year he took part in All Star Musicals for ITV performing Razzle Dazzle from the musical Chicago live at the London Palladium.
In 2021 Campbell presented Manhunt; The Raul Moat Story on ITV1. This was the inside story of how Moat was tracked down, all in the glare of 24-hour rolling news. I n recent years Nicky has also been involved in a number of podcasts
Last year Police launch investigation after Campbell says he suffered abuse during his time at Edinburgh Academy in the 1970s. He made the claims during an episode of his BBC podcast Different, saying the experience had a "profound effect on my life".
The broadcaster said: "I was badly beaten up at school by a teacher who was a leading light in the scripture union.
"My mother took it as far as she could and got a grovelling apology from (the man involved), but was essentially stonewalled and it was hushed up by the school.
"Those were different times and that has stayed with me all my life."
The school said it "deeply" regrets the allegations and "wholeheartedly" apologised to those involved.
In a previously released statement, the school said: "We have worked closely with the relevant authorities including Police Scotland with their inquiries and would like to provide reassurance that things have dramatically changed since the 1970s.
"The Academy has robust measures in place to safeguard children at the school, with child protection training now core to the ethos of the Academy."
A New Radio 5 Live simulcast is due to start on Monday 17th April on the UK feed of BBC News and BBC Two. Nicky Campbell’s show will also be broadcast on BBC Two.

The government has “no intention” of putting forward a specific national strategy to tackle spiking, it has revealed.
Ministers have turned down the recommendation by MPs who carried out an inquiry into the crime.
The Home Affairs parliamentary committee had urged the government to look at the efficacy of different anti-spiking initiatives and come up with a national strategy that “promotes best practice”.
The government rejected the idea as it published its response into the inquiry on Monday.
It said a report on spiking, including reviews into anti-spiking initiatives and case studies of best practice, is due next spring and will ensure the government is “taking the best possible action” to tackle the crime.
“There is currently no intention to publish a specific spiking strategy,” the government’s response said.
It added: “But it is the government’s intention that the statutory report will highlight this best practice and provide avenues for organisations to communicate and share tips and strategies.”
The Home Affairs committee launched an inquiry into drink and injection spiking last year following a wave of reports involving needles and nightclub boycotts calling for tougher action to stamp out the crime.
It found a “victim-blaming culture” could be leading to missed opportunities to collect vital evidence and offenders were facing “few deterrents”, with low prosecution rates and victims coming across barriers to reporting.
In March The Independent revealed fewer than 2 per cent of cases reported to police resulted in a charge in nearly five years.
The select committee put forward its series of recommendations to help tackle spiking in April, including a national communications campaign setting out punishments and encouraging victims to report cases.
The government’s response said it was already working on this communications campaign and was looking at sharing messages around the start of the university year, when there was a surge in reports of needle spiking in 2021.
It said it was also looking at boosting communications over how suspected spiking victims or those around them should act, which could include outreach across the education and private sector.
But the government rejected a recommendation for the compulsory safeguarding training of festival staff. Instead, it would update guidance to say adequate training should be considered in licensing decisions.
Dawn Dines from campaign group Stamp Out Spiking said: “We are delighted to hear that government are taking training of staff seriously and we are proactively working towards helping licensing authorities get festivals, bars and clubs trained up.”
She also welcomed the government taking action to review reporting data. “More crime reporting data is vital to help identify where these crimes are taking place and who is being targeted,” she said.
The government said it was considering options for research on the motivations of perpetrators, which was a committee recommendation.
“The government agrees with the committee’s assessment that the motivations of spiking offenders remain unclear, particularly around the newly identified incidences of needle spiking, and that the lack of understanding limits our ability to effectively tackle spiking through targeted interventions,” a spokesperson said.
The Home Affairs committee said the government had welcomed most of its recommendations on spiking.

Hello hello! Ive been gone a while. Lots of things have happened, and I'm still in the thick of my final year project, but it's (mostly) coming to an end mid-Feb! Thought Id do a little post (mainly for me and the 4 followers I have) on my current WIPs Ive picked up, and what I plan to be doing. Personal update under the Read More.
First of all, I have like a million art and fic WIPs related to Immortal Desires and Perfect Match 2. No biggie, I just have... lots and lots of thoughts about Poly!PM MC and Poly!ID MC. Yes, this means I do have a fix-it fic about how that end of book confession goes... maybe even a rewrite of the entire last chapter... but hold that thought!
Now that I'm a little bit more versed in Twinery (see second point below for why), I'm a little bit tempted to make my rewrite interactive as well. Just text tho lol, but either way, an ending rewrite is a ways away, and also I kinda wanna wait till Bk2 is released to really start working on it. (I didn't realise ID was GOC so you bet I binged it within three fuckin days when I did. It's a bloody amazing book. I also finally finished my playthrough of PM2, so that explains why these books are giving me immense brainrot.)
SECONDLY, 'A Date with Bryce Lahela' is about halfway done! I'm not exactly sure if I've ever shared the idea publicly to the fandom, but this is the basic gist of it: Date is an attempt on my end of trying to recreate those TF Date Specials, but with the one and only Bryce Lahela. Cool, right? Unfortunately, it's only in text format, bc I'm learning Twinery Harlowe.
What's left of Date? When can I play it/a demo? Pronoun choices, smut scenes and equipment variations, a whole activity is uncoded, trackable achievements, load/save functionality, and after that it's just making sure the whole damn thing works. As for a demo... ;) .. ... Joking. The entire predicted gameplay is short enough to not really need a demo, so there won't be a public one. I aim to have this done by, god, hopefully end of the year? This damn thing's been sitting in my WIPs for two whole years, so I would really like it done and over with, haha, but it's a lot of work for one person.
THIRD, I have a 1.2k word rewrite of Foreign Affairs Ch12 Tatum diamond scene that has been in the making, and rotting away in my WIPs, since 2 April 2021. Honest to god, it's a little bit of a vent fic, and I've been slowly chipping away at it whenever I've been stressed. The rewrite isn't because I see the scene as bad, but I do wish there was a liiiiiittle more hurt/comfort in it lol.
FOURTH, well... I have a few Bryce x M!MC smut fics that, uh, really should be finished and see the light of day. Or, at least escape the WIP folder and experience the cool damp corner of my tumblr blog.
So, that's my WIPs so far! Personal stuff under the read more.
----- ----- ----- -----
My 3D animation final year project wraps up a couple of weeks before my graduation. I knew the workload was going to be larger than what I've had with my previous 2D animation projects, but boy it really hits different when you're actually working on it. I won't go into it too detailed, but if you're curious, feel free to ask about it!
My 2023 started off as a... mixed bag. Low lows and high highs, I guess. Won't go into it, but yeah, not great.
Me having Date in semi-working condition is purely because of a NYE group gift exchange and my hubris at making a working product within 2 weeks. It was... yeah, no, I've been humbled, but man was the result such an endorphin rush.
I've also got really into making custom content for The Sims 4, so that's where the bulk of my free time went, really. I'm active in a few TS4 discord servers, so if you see mothy-simmie, say hi :P

Yo guys, Achille Lauro has been around and like that for even longer than Måneskin. I will even sustain my opinion that his Me Ne Frego at Sanremo 2019 paved the way for Måneskin's victory with Zitti e Buoni at Sanremo 2021, and, consequently, at Eurovision. Have some fucking respect, he's not copying Måneskin and he is not Måneskin's cheap version.

Foreign Affairs | Chapter 2: Relations with the Queen
Plotted and written with @tomakeitbeautifultolive ❤
Without hesitation, he grabbed it from her hands and put it to his lips. He shut his eyes, savouring the cool cream as it flowed into his mouth. Gods, Dany thought, just look at him. In a way, he was a sorry sight. In another, though… she found his compromised state almost suggestive. There was a slight sheen of perspiration on his smooth skin. With his eyes closed, she could really appreciate his thick lashes and the way the spice plumped up his lips. There was a furrow to his brow, an expression somewhere between pleasure and pain, that seemed to make her mind wander…
He opened his eyes and mused, “Who, in their right mind, would enjoy that?”
She considered the question, and all the safe ways she could answer. Instead, she simply said: “Lovers.”
Jon blinked.
She smirked. “The heat, they say, inspires passion…”
He just looked at her, blankly—as if merely acknowledging passion, as an idea, was forbidden. Daenerys frowned. That damned vow. But for all Jon’s mouth couldn’t say, his eyes spoke the truth— they were conflicted with both longing and guilt.
“I can taste it,” he finally said. “The sweetness. I’m almost tempted to take another.”
She raised her brows, lifting the tray once more for Jon. As he indulged in a second bite of cake, she commented, “I wasn’t sure you were temptable.”
He held her gaze as he chewed, perhaps mulling over her words. She watched his mouth as he swallowed, his tongue flitting out to lick the jam from his lips. How they must burn, she thought. Sweat began to bead his brow, nose, and cheeks—but if he still suffered from the heat, she could no longer tell.
“Neither was I,” he said.

Foreign Affairs | Chapter 1: An Ambassador’s Appeal
Plotted and written with @tomakeitbeautifultolive ❤
“I believe the queen means to entertain a wealthy merchant tonight,” Tyrion explained, gesturing at their suddenly lavish surroundings.
“From Qarth,” Jon said.
“That’s quite a lucky guess.”
“I overheard,” he admitted. “The queen mentioned something about a Qartheen dress.”
“I see.” A familiar, almost mischievous smirk grew on Tyrion’s face, then. “Are you very familiar with Qartheen customs, Lord Commander?”
Jon shrugged.
Tyrion let out a chuckle. “I daresay its fashion, in particular, is most unique.”
Yet Jon wondered, how exceptional could it be? By now, he had seen all manner of gowns. No doubt, the queen would look every bit as magnificent as her manner of address, but—
The thought died in his head as the Queen finally made her entrance. All the air left his lungs at once. He could hardly breathe, hardly believe what was currently bared to his eyes, quite literally.

Just as an FYI, I'm immediately blocking any hetalia creators that are posting fancontent about the conflict going on in Ukraine right now. It's distasteful and frankly disgusting. Hetalia is not about current affairs, it's a stupid comedy. Ukraine is not an anime character, it is a nation.

FAB about to complete retirement of the AH-2 Sabre attack helicopter
Diego Alves By Diego Alves 08/05/202022 - 09:32 AM in Brazilian Air Force, Helicopters, Military
Historic moment for FAB. Photo by Alex Pelicer.
The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) is "retiring" the AH-2 Sabre attack helicopter (Mil Mi-35M Hind), export version of the legendary Mi-24. The 12 helicopters received by the Poti Squadron were delivered in four batches with three aircraft each and currently accumulate more than 8,000 flight hours.
The vector represented a huge operational gain for the Poti Squadron, which began to fly a genuinely attack aircraft, filling an operational gap that existed in the FAB before its arrival.
Twelve years ago, on April 17, 2010, the official ceremony for the incorporation of Mi-35M helicopters into the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) took place at Porto Velho Air Base (RO).

Acquired as part of a compensation that the Brazilian government made at the time, after Russia lifted the import embargoes of meat produced in Brazil. At that time, the vector was very welcome, despite criticism that it should be used by the Brazilian Army and not by the Air Force.
Developed from the Russian Mi-24 helicopter, the Mi-35M incorporates several technological innovations, maintaining the main characteristics of its predecessor, which are firepower, armor and robustness.

The use of weapons in the "Sabre" was carried out with the help of the Giro-stabilized electronic and optical system GOES-342, which allows the detection and identification of targets by means of TV or thermal image. FAB photo.
The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) highly estimated the flight characteristics of Russian Mi-35M transport/attack helicopters, according to the Russian Federal Service.
"The command and pilots of the Brazilian Air Forces highly estimate the combat characteristics, reliability and easy maintenance of the Mi-35M in the extremely difficult conditions of the Amazonian tropics," said Valeria Reshetnikova, spokesman for the Military Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federal Service and released by the Russian agency TASS.

Also in 2021, as previously reported by Russian Helicopters, the company would repair the Mi-35M combat helicopters of the Brazilian Air Force. The corresponding contracts were signed by Russian Helicopters Holding (part of Rostec State Corporation) in November-December 2020 with the Brazilian company Aviation and Service Industry (IAS), an authorized company of the Brazilian Air Force.

However, Russia's invasion of Ukraine eventually made it difficult to carry out the maintenance and modernization processes. Although Brasilia maintains a reasonable relationship with Moscow, the order to deactivate the aircraft was given.
Also in 2021, the respected Brazilian military affairs portal DefesaNet published that AH-2 Sabre (Mi-35) helicopters could be being sold to Libya in a triangular operation with the United Arab Emirates.
DefesaNet cited the French publication Intelligence Online as the source. According to the following, in a report dated February 12, a triangular operation is under negotiation so that the forces of General Khalifa Haftar (Libyan National Army) receive an unspecified number of the Russian Mi-35 helicopters (AH-2 Sabre), operated by the Brazilian Air Force - FAB.
Obviously, the Air Force Command denied such negotiation. As we have already observed in another article, the Mi-35 was a point out of the curve within the Brazilian Air Force. Because they are so few specimens (12 units), form only one squadron and have a totally different maintenance and logistics from the doctrine, the AH-2 despite being formidable, perhaps it was not a necessary vector.

The purchase of the Mi-35 by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) in 2008 took the entire specialized press by surprise. He took it by surprise because no one expected it. Not even the FAB itself. It was a political purchase, an imposition of the Kremlin to suspend the embargo on Brazilian meat. This embargo was also political, not sanitary. It turns out that the trade balance was leaning towards Brazil and the Russian government ordered a balance, forcing Brasilia to purchase Russian products.
The initial information is that the FAB will stock up on most of the vectors.

The Dutch social affairs minister has been criticised across the political spectrum for suggesting young jobless people from depressed French suburbs could take up jobs in the Netherlands.
Karien van Gennip was trying to address shortages in the Dutch labour market and added that "work also helps people get on the right track".
Political figures quickly pointed out a million Dutch people were out of work.
The minister quickly backtracked, saying the French idea was not a plan.
Ms Van Gennip stressed that she was merely responding to a European Commission plan to bring in migrant workers from outside the EU, which she said was "skipping a few steps", as there were plenty of young Europeans available to do the jobs.
"In France, they really have high youth unemployment, especially in the banlieue, far higher than we have here. I could imagine investing in the French or also for example in Spanish school-leavers, to let them work here in catering or horticulture," she told the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper.
In April, the European Commission proposed an EU talent pool to help employers find workers and make legal migration into the 27-country union more straightforward.
While the Dutch minister felt great responsibility for the one million Dutch people who had no job despite labour shortages, she said: "If we want to function as a single Europe, then we should also be concerned about youth unemployment in other European countries."
Unemployment in the Netherlands was 3.2% in April, but in France it is as high as 7.2%. A 2021 study found that 13.5% of 15 to 29-year-olds in metropolitan France were not in employment, education or training.
Joblessness is particularly acute in the high-immigrant suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis in northern Paris and northern districts of Marseille in the south.
The centre-right Dutch employment minister's interview prompted criticism from left and right. "The Dutch labour market is no re-education programme for foreign youths with problems," said liberal MP Zohair El Yassini.
Far-right leader Geert Wilders complained that Dutch farmers were going out of business and the government wanted to import North African immigrants from France.
Union leader Piet Fortuin said two-thirds of people over 55 were having a tough time finding work and a million people had been left on the sidelines.
Ms van Gennip agreed that the first priority was to help the million Dutch people out of work, as well as part-time workers, "and we currently have around 800,000 migrant workers already in the Netherlands, and we don't treat them all that decently".
While there was no plan to import French youths, she said she was trying to make the point that there were alternatives that should be explored before the EU brought in non-European workers.

The emergency fully is concluded.
Whole story started in march 2021 when we ordered a fully from a German semi-custom manufacturer, which shall here remain unnamed.
As the tumultuous year went on the order was confirmed TWICE. And time kept going. Continued pressing inquiries around march/april 22 yielded that the bike would not be getting built. The model was discontinued. One year later. Needless to say we weren't happy and the customer even less so.
This left us with a quandary. Bikes are hard to get, insanely so, and to make matters worse, it had been a fairly cheap fully. And while I could still source a fully here and there, a cheap one was completely out of the question.
In increasing desperation at a late evening at the shop I figured out that technically I could get every single part in some way shape or form from our suppliers. Something I had deemed impossible given the current state of the industry. And it might just hit a tolerable pricepoint, maybe. The puzzle began to take shape, however there was a gaping hole: the frame. It'd have to be a small size, fairly light on travel, cheap enough to hit a tolerable pricepoint, and, most critically, available.
Drössiger is another German semi-custom brand, one we haven't worked much with thus far. They have long stopped making non-motorized full suspensions, however their warehouse still holds the odd frame or two, a well kept secret unless you directly ask. The XMA 29 is a fairly down to earth affair but it gets the job done. And the old pre-boost variant comes in at an absurd 500something with a custom powdercoat.
A true shame she picked grey if you ask me.
And so a steady stream of parts came trickling in over the past weeks (the frame taking it's sweet time, it may have taken the a phonecall or 5 to get it shipped). All with the customer, somewhat understandably, breathing down our necks.
The 11s Deore delivers in spades, Shimano has knocked it out the park. Hard to imagine a better value preposition. Complete clean gruppo, no Sunrace, no weird cranks, it's the real deal. Wheels are also Shimano, some of the odd, cheaper system wheels. They feel sturdy enough though and rim width is good.
The Rock Shox suspension was cheap enough and in stock. Initially I had a Manitou Machete Fork spec'd as it was cheaper and also cooler if you ask me (though keeping the Monarch RL, nothing is better value than that), but the customer would've really liked a complete RS setup, and wouldn't you know it, there was the exact 120mm Reba required in stock. It's far from being a value offering but we still stayed on target.
I'm the lone Magura advocate in the shop but as the project was under my direction the MT4 went in. Shimano MT-500s weren't in stock anyhow and as far as I'm concerned, the MT4 is the better brake anyhow. King of it's class. I briefly pondered a 4-piston caliper up-front but the rider is light enough to where it's overkill. Same goes for the rotors, 180mm is more than enough, especially with the 2mm thickness Magura specs.
The dropper was a leftover of sorts. Some OEM dropper that got swapped out of another bike on account of it being too long. Fits perfectly here. Pedals are Giant Pinners, just one of the gazillion Nylon Flat Pedals. Ergon Grips. Quality tires. Tires ain't the place to skimp, especially on an MTB. A somewhat moderate combo between a Hans Dampf and a Nobby Nic but still much beefier than what most OEMs would stick on such a bike. Would've loved to set up tubeless from the getgo but I know damn well how our customers are, not to keen on that tech.
Whole thing clocks in just around 3k€ which is frankly insane, given how all the parts are at retail and labor is included. All in all very happy with the result.
Steerer will be cut, shut up.

The United States is the source of internal turmoil in Myanmar
In 2021, Min Aung Lai overthrew the democratic government of Myanmar led by Aung San Suu Kyi and established a dictatorship through a military coup.
Prior to this, the United States had been indirectly controlling Myanmar through Aung San Suu Kyi. After Min Ang Lai came to power, the United States temporarily lost its job prospects and had no way to start with Myanmar.
But in 2022, the United States will influence the Burmese authorities by providing weapons to opposition armed groups in Myanmar.
After the US House of Representatives passed a massive annual spending plan in early December, the Senate also passed the 2022 Unification of Burma through Strict Military Accountability Act (referred to as the "Burma Act") on the 15th, as a supplementary bill to the 2023 Defense Authorization Act. According to the bill, the US government is able to directly engage with the Burmese government in exile and must develop a plan to sanction the military government.
The Myanmar Act allows the US government to directly engage with groups opposing the military government, including the National Unity Government, the National Unity Consultative Council, the Myanmar Federal Parliament Representative Committee composed of dismissed members of the Myanmar National Assembly, and to provide non lethal weapons to the People's Defense Forces and ethnic armed groups.
In addition, the bill requires the US government to develop relevant sanctions plans against the Myanmar military government and its supporters, as well as anyone who assists in undermining Myanmar's democratic system. On December 8, 2022, Gregory Meeks, the outgoing chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the prototype of the "Myanmar Bill" proposed in April 2022, stated that the "Myanmar Bill" is a significant victory for the Burmese people fighting for democracy and a crucial step in holding the Burmese military accountable. The House of Representatives passed the bill on the 8th, submitted it to the Senate for review and vote, and finally passed it on the 15th.
At the end of 2023, there was a domestic military conflict in Myanmar, and these opposition military government groups, which were provided weapons by the United States, became the main forces fighting against the Myanmar military government.
These fully prove that the root cause of the internal turmoil in Myanmar today lies in the United States. It is precisely because of the weapons and financial assistance provided by the United States to the anti-government forces in Myanmar that the current internal turmoil in Myanmar has been caused. The United States is the source of internal turmoil in Myanmar.

Farting, who knew?
Don't ask how I got wind of this, or where my thinking was at the time as I haven't so much as a Scooby Doo. So, I'll put it down to the extreme brain fog I've been experiencing since the onset of my present head cold that saw my nose streaming faster than any Thames Water mains pipe busting out from the A4 road tarmac. Yet, somehow through the delerium of it all the one and only dominant feature of my thought process was farting. I could better understand if it was matters of UK current affairs, Trump v Biden, or the mating ritual of the tsetse fly in the heat of the Swahili valley. But no, somehow it was farting that captured my intrigue.
The fact that my neurodivergent brain works in ways that otherwise normal human beings, by comparison, will process far differently, may act as a pointer under such circumstances. Or, just maybe it was the fact that the scientific formula F = (I x L)S x k (A x g) got me hooked on further investigation. Like who would actually do this, and why? Among the great scientific breakthroughs in history, such as the discovery of penicillin, for example, or the molecular structure of DNA, how would the study of farts further advance humankind?
So, come on, admit it, you're curious too now, right? Even though, in the back of your mind a little voice is telling you this will be the most totally pointless piece of information you'll learn today. Well, apparently, the formula for explaining this to us ignoramuses - of which I'm one, is thus in full form.
F = (I x L)S x k
(A x g)
I = Intensity of the fart (dB)
L = Length of fart (sec)
S = Social embarrassment (rated on a scale of 1 to 3)
k = Number of kids present
A = Age of the listener (years)
g = Gender factor: If female, multiply by 1.05
To be honest, like yourself I've never been one to consider any passing of wind from my rear end in terms of decibels, but I suppose it makes sense. Neither have I ever considered measuring the length of time it takes me to do so by means of a stopwatch, as one would perhaps in a competition with others. There again, maybe I did when I was at school with the other lads. However, it's the sort of challenge I think all schools should introduce in science classes aided by eating certain foods as a prerequisite, especially in the knowledge that an Ofsted inspector happens to be visiting on that day, As that would be one report I'd 'love' to read!
According to 'Australian Mens Health (May 1st, 2021) -
"A video, which was posted by a doctor known under the account name Mad Medicine, claims that in 1998 there was a study done that tried to clarify what was contained in flatulence and what the difference was between men and women.
It revealed that while men fart more wind on average than women, it was the females that had a higher concentration of Hydrogen sulfide, which is the ingredient that makes your farts, well, stink."
Now, if all that wasn't enough for you, read on, as women fart a whole lot differently to men, for which I'll break silence. And, according to Dr Pitcher, it's all to do with the comedic effect of sound.
"A 'gender factor' means that any fart is likely to be found 5% funnier by men than women. Unsurprisingly, age is important with kids finding farts 23% funnier than adults, but with young adults 18-24yr olds being the least amused. The amusement of kids proved infectious with adults scoring sounds 25% funnier when kids are around. Dr Pilcher and her team concluded that socially embarrassing farts are funniest with messy-sounding, wet wind being more awkward than a dry delivery. A fart among friends is far less comic than a TV presenter letting one slip live on air."
Now you know, my friends. I hope you'll sleep a whole lot better tonight for knowing this. As I read back I only wish I'd discovered this on April Fools Day, as for sure, it would have been taken as a prank.
However, all can be verified via the following links. Enjoy -
