Clone Tattoo Headcanons

Yes so now I’m thinking about this and so I thought I’d stare my thoughts! (I also have mentioned a few of these in fics so I thought I’d just explain it here)

Universal 

All the clones have their CT or CC number on their wrist

I am pretty sure the Kaminoans can’t tell them apart or don’t care enough to do so but if they have their number right there on their wrist then they automatically know which clone is which

Many troopers chose to get a cover up over their number but others don’t

When a clone joins a battalion they get a band of their battalion’s color

Like the 501st has a blue band on their left bicep, the Coruscant guard has a rad band around their right forearm

The 104th had a maroon band around their tricep but after Malevolence the survivors got two gray bands on top and bottom of the maroon.

Jesse

obviously his big ass Republic cog tattoo

He 100% got that while absolutely shit faced drunk but the only one that knows this is Fives. Kix had wanted a night off and Echo was recovering from an injury so Fives and Jesse went out drinking together

Jesse absolutely will never admit that he was drunk when he got the tattoo and Fives will never tell anybody he was because then Jesse would tell everyone about the embarrassing Fives also got while he was also shit faced

Jesse definitely has a sleeve on his right arm that is starting to extend to his chest and shoulder

It consists of imagery from planets they’ve visited on campaigns and also contains tributes to his fallen brothers

He has a small blue tattoo mimicking Hardcase’s face tattoos in the sleeve, he has a handprint somewhere near his elbow, and he also has a small 5 hidden in there somewhere as well

Fives

obviously his 5 tattoo on his temple

He has a simplistic style Z-6 Rotary blaster on his tricep as a tribute to Hevy (Echo has the same design)

He and Echo got 99 tattooed on their back right side to honor 99

He has a detailed krayt dragon skull on his back

He has the words ‘call me captain’ on the inside of his left arm (definitely wasn’t drunk)

After the citadel Fives got a small handprint tattooed where Echo’s handprint had been on his own armor

The tattoo that he will never speak of is a replica of one of the 212ths ship nose art depicting Commander Cody in a twi’lek dancer pose, complete with the bare legs and over exaggerated proportions.

And its on his left ass cheek.

Jesse has a picture of this tattoo and will use it as blackmail

he also has the same Z-6 rotary blaster design but its on his right thigh

He has a detailed Rishi eel down his spine to honor Cutup

He has a matching 99 tattoo with fives 

After joining the 501st he got a skeleton handprint on his chest under where Rex’s handprint is on his armor

definitely has his favorite reg manual protocol tattooed somewhere, but its not the whole protocol, just the number (its order 69 because he things its absolutely hilarious and he was a little drunk)

He as the words “or call me sir” on the inside of his left arm (definitely wasn’t drunk)

after he is rescued from Skako minor he gets a 5 tattooed over his heart

On his left arm he gets 4 dominos, 1/0-5/0 but the 3rd domino is missing because that was his number in their squad

Under his 501st blue band he gets a new red and black band for his new squad

obviously his cool blue face and head tattoos, oh and those extend down his back and arm where the line turns into his 501st blue band

he has his favorite rotary blaster tattooed with a name banner and flowers around it on his right arm

The name is Jennifer because he names his blasters

he would probably get a quote he really likes on his forearm

Rex

he has a tribute to all his closest brothers down his right side

handprint for Echo, 5 for Fives, blue for Hardcase, lightning bolts for Kix, republic cog for Jesse, tear drop for Tup, V for Dogma, Wolffe pack symbol for Wolffe, red band for Fox, Bly’s yellow face markings, etc

he has a script tattoo on his side from an old mandalorian story that Jango told the cadets when they were young, Cody has the same script as Rex

he got the Fulcrum symbol after Malachor

Clone Wars - Rookies

Now that I've got a laptop I can actually type on... time to get back into the rewatch with AN EPISODE THAT WILL PAIN ME.

'The best confidence builder is experience' yeah assuming that you get to have that and don't just get brutally killed on your first assignment. If you get past all of that, then you can get confidence building experience.

Unfortunately, because of the relentless demands of battle, many young clones must join the struggle before their intensive training has been completed.

LIKE COME ON. I'M FERAL. THEY DIDN'T EVEN GET TRAINED FULLY AND WERE SENT OUT ANYWAY. Tragic how that Just Has to Happen, there's no other way we definitely can't recruit people that aren't clones and have volunteered for this. That's impossible, sorry.

*checks time* we're at about 40 seconds now, I'm going to be so normal about this. Sooooo normal.

God though do I love Echo. I LIKE THAT IT'S SO QUIET OUT HERE :D GIVES ME TIME TO CATCH UP ON THE REG MANUALS :D what a nerd. A precious, precious nerd. Who knew that in a few short years they would be running around with a squad full of unadulterated chaos like the batch?

Shout out to Sergeant O'Niner for extreme handsomeness, I just love the greying look, so sue me.

Also Obi-Wan getting after Anakin for not sleeping, this is likely such a long running argument. I seem to remember the ROTS novelization said something about how Anakin didn't sleep for pretty much the entirety of it. BAD HABITS WILL GET YOU IN THE END. One day you're skimping on sleep to find General Grievous and the next you haven't slept in five days and you've murdered the younglings.

I love "Good man, that Cody" how often does Obi-Wan just randomly compliment Cody the instant he hangs up?

Hevy is so unimpressed by the meteor shower, in one last bit of humor before clone boys start dying. O'Niner's death is particularly brutal with the POV shot of three blasters gunning him down, but I hate all of it 😭Wasting absolutely no time cutting the clone numbers in half, including poor, unfortunately named Droidbait. (I can't get over that name, I simply can't. Nothing says awkward like memorializing your comrade Droidbait, who was murdered by droids.)

Also the specific way the droid changes its voice, the grabbing at its neck and apparently physically forcing its voice module into a clone voice. Upsetting to look at! But worth it for 'we do not need an inspection! Everything's fine! :)' Maximum suspicious behavior. And Cody's main reaction is just 'you know what? I need this to not be my problem. Rex is in charge.' I feel like we underestimate the amount of Little Shit Cody can be when he feels like it.

Mid typing of course, Cutup got eaten by an eel. RIP. I do feel like this part is played a little too lightly, they call out Cutup's name and say poor Cutup and all but no one seems all that like, distressed, that he's gone. At the very least that's 25% of their remaining manpower! Show some concern guys!

Moving on though, this lighting is doing Cody's paint job no favors.

I do love how unnerving the droid pretending to be a clone is though. Droid like 'how do clones act? Gestures? They gesture right?' and proceeds to do it in the worst way possible.

Rex is showing off a great dichotomy here, with Anakin and Ahsoka he always comes off as the cool headed one that tries to do things by the book, but when he hauls off and shoots the suspicious 'clone' in the face, Cody is HORRIFIED AND CONFUSED. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? One squad's voice of reason is another squad's absolute lunatic.

Speaking of characterization notes, I still find it a little odd that Fives has gotten the full party boy characterization of the Echo & Fives set in fanon when he's almost as rigid as Echo here, at least when set against Hevy. He introduces himself to Rex and Cody by his CT number and it's Hevy that fills in their actual names. I feel like he loosens up over the show, but he's definitely more by the book than people give him credit for. The real difference between the two as set up seems to be that Fives is a little more assertive (but kind of quieter) to Echo's soft spoken but chatty personality.

HANDPRINT THOUGH, HANDPRINT HANDPRINT. Literally if I could change one (1) small thing about TBB it's that I would give Echo back their handprint. I hate that they don't have it, it's integral damn it.

Rex breaking back in is still one of my favorite parts. Holding up the severed head up to the camera while Cody just goes THIS IS NEVER GOING TO WORK. Give him some credit, Cody, he knows what he's doing.

"Permission to take point, sir?" "I'm always first, kid."

Every day, Rex is just out here being unspeakably attractive. (And Echo is being unspeakably cute. "I GOT ONE :D")

Rex yet again showing his insane levels by going straight to 'guess we blow the whole place up' as his battle plan. No chill in this man, none at ALL.

Also, the detonator not hooking up with the handset. I can't believe that Hevy gets killed by fucking. Bluetooth issues. Imagine that your life rests on getting two pieces of technology to fucking communicate with each other. And Rex and Cody's immediate reaction is they need to GO BACK AND GET HIM RIGHT NOW, no one wants him to sacrifice himself, that wasn't what he was supposed to do when Rex left him to fix the detonator. I'm sure he gets hella survivors guilt from that. He left the rookie behind, it probably feels like his fault that Hevy is gone. Just pile the problems on him, just do it.

Echo having a tendency to make questionably timed jokes is. Certainly something. Like, Cutup gets eaten by an eel - that's why the regulations say don't go outside! Hevy gets blown up - Hevy always did hate that place! Like. Baby. Do you have to say that NOW? They perhaps have some filter issues.

Triumphant ending! Everyone except these two has died horribly! But they have medals you see!

It's still one of my favorite episodes though. All clones all the time, lots of chances to fawn over my boys, I can never turn that down. Echo my beloved ❤️

ON CT NUMBERS

Okay so, for research, I went looking up Clones.

And I came across "Bravo Squad", which was the Cadet Squad that graduated from cadets before Domino Squad did, in the Clone Wars episode "Cadets".

They were labeled by their CT numbers.

Now this is interesting in comparison to Domino Squad, who's numbers were:

CT-782 "Hevy" - Who we know later exploded on the Rishi Moon.

CT-00-2010 "Droidbait" - Who died off screen to Droids.

CT-4040 - "Cutup" - Who got ate by a Rishi Eel

CT-27-5555 - "Fives"

CT-21-0409 - "Echo"

Now, Echo is interesting in that he has two. He's been known as CT-0409 and CT-1409.

Was there a mistake? Prolly, but we can reconcile that easy--in that, we don't know what exactly a CT number is.

If it a serial number, a way to systematically label clones, and there are thousands to millions of Clones, then it would make sense to have a much longer serial number--but only immediately identify by part of that number for ease.

So Echo would actually be "CT-21-0408-1409".

( I will still say that its still too short, so I'd go that its actually longer than that--but this is what we have of it. Its a bit like IP Addresses, really. )

But what about that double digit in front?

Well, we look back at Bravo Squad from Cadets.

CT-66-3232

CT-66-3233

CT-66-3238

I'd say, judging by those numbers, that the double-digit indicates the Batch you were apart of.

(Writing wise, its prolly just ease to label a clone character and go, cos they did a lot of that in TCWs--but we can still have fun with what we have)

Like, take those cloning pillar-towers we see all the clone babies in, and label a set with a universal number, and that's a batch.

If we go by Legends, clones came out in batches of 32. Mesh that with Clone Wars Canon--and you could say they came out in batches of 32, but are later separated into Batch-Squads of 4 or 5 or 6 (Remember the Youth Brigade in the Boba Arc of TCWs? Like that)

It would make sense to produce a batch squad that has trained all their lives, to ensure perfect unit cohesion.

And Domino Squad either has no batch-number revealed, or come from different batches entirely.

More than likely, they were odd ones out of their batches, maybe it was a failure or something, maybe it was simply being the extra, maybe it was an attitude problem--but we could say that they were placed in Domino Squad, away from their original Batch-Squads, to see if they'd work together--and they conflicted a lot, because they didn't grow up with each other and lack that "Perfect Unit Cohesion".

( Oh they prolly could have worked together fine with training and time--but they didn't have that, nor did they have a good trainer )

So anyway.

Echo would be from Batch-21. Droidbait is from a Batch-00 (He's less likely to be the oldest, and more likely to just be in the right line on the right clone tree-pillar), and Fives is from Batch-27. (We don't know Cutup or Hevy's)

But if you notice in my Bravo Squad list, there's a CT-27-3555.

Judging by the fact that he's surrounded by Batch-66s... that's probably one of Fives' original batchmates. Based on his Batch Number and his CT Number.

And as far as we know, his old batchmate is out there...

sometimes i forget that this is actually a blog i can write about my life on. crazy right. anyways. this will probably be the first of many bc shits getting fucking insane in the membrane.

tw medical, cancer maybe, some vast unnameable fear saturday

gabriel has multiple masses in his neck and lymph nodes that we found out about on tuesday. one is nearly two inches long. he’s been complaining about neck pain for months. he had a regular checkup last week, his doc correctly noted his enlarged lymph nodes and ordered an ultrasound, he went for that on monday. on Thursday the (marked urgent) orders for the ct scan of his major lymphatic system + biopsy of his neck finally got sent to the hospital for scheduling. they haven’t called us yet though so i’ll be ringing them in the morning.

and like. yeah. i’ve felt his neck and i can feel it in there. this sounds dumb but he’s always had a big fucking neck. he’s just built like that, with a jawline that can retreat into his neck at a moments notice. he loves making people laugh with it. and yeah under his beard it’s obviously there. and i realize i’ve been staring at it for weeks, months maybe. noting something was off but not putting together what. even if i had, he’s a round soft boy. i’d never say a fucking thing about his chins getting bigger bc i know he feels self conscious about it sometimes. like i couldn’t have known. he’s been attributing his neck pain to his incredibly long working hours lifting things and working the restaurant. he’s been in pain for months and we still don’t know anything about it. i do not want to pre-worry about hypotheticals when we don’t even know what it is. and honestly, most of the time i fully believe it. i can usually talk myself (and often him, too) through a wave of fear about the not knowing, and the waiting. right before i am trying to sleep is the hardest. i dont want to take any meds to help at this point bc i need to be up in about 4 hours and be at work an hour or two after that, but the fear is eating me alive right now. so im writing this to hopefully exorcise some of it, maybe wear my brain out just enough to crash.

it might not even be anything as bad as all that. but it could be, and that’s going to be the rock in my shoe until we know literally anything besides how big the masses are. which coupled with the months of his being in neck pain—he is fucking averse to ibuprofen so whenever he complains about aching and i offer meds he declines 75% of the time, so i always just assume it’s because. he is lifting shit all day at work and when he’s not lifting things he’s at a computer doing other work things. he’s an achy boy and i rub his shoulders and kiss him lots and love him with everything in me. anyway i just assumed it wasn’t anything major. —so the size of the masses + the amount of time he’s been in pain = I’m Really Fucking Concerned. and i can’t fucking do anything about it right now so i should just go to sleep. but when i put my phone down and close my eyes and try to sleep, im more aware of him next to me. and i love him being there. but my brain is making extremely unsolicited leaps and bounds from “oh, my partner is next to me in bed, i love sleeping next to him” to “what if he wasn’t next to me in bed and what if he never would be again because he died from this thing” which is like. literally THE most unhelpful thought to be having while you’re trying to sleep. So i’m gonna ride it out until sleep comes for me like a brick, or until my shift ends tomorrow.

i am so fucking scared. i don’t think i have ever felt fear like this before. everyone in my family who died of cancer died before i was born. i have only ever seen this play out at arms length. if i dwell on that fear, if i try to say what it is i’m afraid of (because for me, naming it is the first step to working through it), its like something primordial in my brain takes over. tangle of eels, oil spill dark and swallowing. no language for it yet.

when he had appendicitis and was in incredible amounts of pain, he described his pain on the 1-10 scale as a 3, maybe a 4. Granted that was nearly 9 years ago and he’s more aware of the fact that he as a man is allowed to be in pain and express it and treat it. so tonight he described the pain in his neck as a 7 that went down to a 5 with the ibuprofen. when he said 7 i had to stop myself from putting him in the car and taking him to the hospital right then. but it was already down to a 5. and he’s sleeping, and has been for a while now, so well at least wait until the morning.

i know he’s scared too, and i truly do not want him to have to be thinking about my fucked up brain feelings in the insomnia hours on top of everything else right now. i will not be telling him about this bc i want to self soothe. its a great time for me to practice. tomorrow night with meds. bc tonight i genuinely don’t think im sleeping. the clock just keeps…. going. and i keep being here.

and the fuck of it all is i do not know. and we wont for days to come. and i just have to live with that and keep reminding myself that it might not be that bad, and that lymphoma has a really high survival rate if it is that, and at least we know about it now. and the hospital has the orders for the next steps and he or i will call tomorrow to see if we can get the ct scan + biopsy scheduled as soon as possible. and tomorrow night, instead of dreading bedtime and spiraling the second i put my phone down for the night, i will take one of my anxiety meds preemptively. if i took it now id be zonked by the time i have to be at work and i do better sleep-deprived and winging it utterly than i do sleep-deprived with benzodiazepines in my system. but tomorrow night i can plan better. and we will get through it.

i love him so much. i know i know i know he will be okay. i don’t need to worry about all that right now.

Miso is the shit

Miso has to be the start of this food review blog. Miso is like Mecca to me. It's the holy land. Your grandmother's relationship with the Catholic Church is the same as my relationship with Miso. It's where I go to pray. It's where I go to laugh. To cry. To disrespect myself and others. To spend all my money in hopes of making it to heaven.

Not only is it the spiritual hub of New Haven, but the food is definitely worthy of at least three Michelin stars. At the VERY LEAST it deserves to be a three Michelin star restaurant. I'll never forgive Michelin for not showing love to Miso. They make really good tires but they don't know anything about fine dining. Who even gave Michelin authority over food. Rubber has nothing to do with dinner.

At this point this isn't even a food review at all but I need you to understand that it isn't even about the food. It's about getting twisted off of like 5 different kinds of wine and stumbling to the bathroom 6 times in 5 minutes. It's about loudly discussing topics that are not appropriate for the dinner table. It's about making friends with the wait staff and sharing war stories. It's about ordering the most extravagant meal ever prepared and then wrapping the whole thing up to go. I'm talking like 6+ rolls and having ONE bite. And then I leave it in the CAR.

Miso Really is a special location and the food is bar none. They are the only restaurant I've been to in CT that has uni on the menu consistently. If you haven't tried uni, do that. I also highly reccomend anything with eel, but you can't go wrong with ANYTHING on the menu. I haven't actually had any non-sushi menu items, but I'm going to stand behind that statement, baseless as it may be.

They don't have rosé which is a shame but nobody is perfect.

Overall I'd rate Miso 10/10 stars. Equivalent in cultural significance to the Pilgrimage of Chartres. Michelin needs to get its act together.

Teams Mobilize for Coastal Invasion of Horseshoe Crabs

Guest post by Burt Golub They came at night as the moon pulled on the earth in its perigee.  Quiet and unobtrusive the sensors under their hard protective outer covering probed the surroundings for food, while the UV sensors on top reacted to wave lengths humans could not see.   Other sensors saw what humans could.   Noiselessly and often undetected they left behind millions of eggs to continue their species on our planet as they had for the last 450 million years. Aliens? UFOs?   No. These are the harmless horseshoe crabs (Limulus polyphemus) doing their thing during the spring and fall spawning seasons laying eggs along the shorelines at high tide.  Amazingly they haven’t changed in the 450 million years they’ve existed, long before the dinosaurs (200 million years ago).  And even more amazingly - the health of today’s human population is dependent on them. The Horseshoe Crab Watch Over the next two months, you may see a small blue pickup truck and a team of volunteers with clipboards and “FWC Volunteer” T-shirts walking along Green Key Road in Pasco County.  These are a group of dedicated volunteers helping count, tag and record previously tagged Horseshoe Crabs during the annual nationwide Horseshoe Crab Watch program. Here in Florida, we call it, “Linked with Limulus”.  Although the nationwide Horseshoe Crab Watch program has been an active program in the northeast U.S. since 1998 (DE, CT, NY), here on the Gulf Coast it has only been since 2016 these population counts have been conducted, and only in the last two years in Pasco County. Burt Golub and other volunteer Citizen Scientists tag and record the number of horseshoe crabs found along the Gulf Coast to help Florida Fish & Wildlife keep track of these valuable prehistoric sea creatures. Image by Burt Golub Horseshoe crabs (Limulus polyphemus) are totally harmless and not a food source except for marine turtles and sharks. These prehistoric crustacean’s have been harvested in the thousands in Delaware and elsewhere to be ground up for fertilizer or used as bait for the eel and whelk industry.  Only recently was their real value discovered in the biomedical field.  Every vaccine and medical implant today is tested for contaminants with an extract from the horseshoe crab’s uniquely blue colored blood before being made available to the public.  The extract is called Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) and is produced by just a few laboratories by extracting 30% of the HSC’s blood for processing and then releasing the animal back into the wild. Participating in Citizen Scientist Programs for the Florida Horseshoe Crab Watch Citizen Scientist Programs are an important part of the Fish and Wildlife Commission’s scientific endeavors. Manpower shortages in many government and academic agencies, especially where field work is concerned, has given the public more opportunities to contribute to important scientific projects such as this one.  https://youtu.be/pV0Nf-Mq69A The Florida Horseshoe Crab Watch program was created to learn where and at what densities horseshoe crabs spawn, and whether populations were changing through time. Biology) can determine population numbers, reproduction rates, range of movements, and impact on the environment by human populations and development in our state. If you want to get involved, next time you see a horseshoe crab look for a round white disc on the side of their shell, then photograph or record the number on the disc and send that number (do not remove the tag) to Florida Fish and Wildlife at (www.fw.gov/crabtag/) or call 1-888-546-8587 (1-888-LIMULUS). How to Interact with a Horseshoe Crab Safely  Under no circumstances should you pick up the horseshoe crab by its tail. The tail is the horseshoe crab’s only means to right itself if turned upside down by wave action.  Pick them up with two hands by the sides of the front larger shell. They can’t hurt you unless you accidentally get a finger caught in the hinge between the front and back shells. For southern New England saltwater anglers, July means hot fishing in Long Island Sound. And the favorite summertime quarry in the Sound is striped bass. Thanks to strict conservation efforts instituted in the 1980s, recent years have produced an explosion in the region’s striper population.

The action peaks in June and continues well into July. If you are seeking a king-sized cow bass, you’ll need to invest more time fishing at night. These large, lone feeders are primarily nocturnal and will fall for favorite foods like live eels and menhaden. But daylight fishing can produce good catches of school-sized bass. These fish are available in great numbers, and odds are that when you find one, you’ll also find many of its schoolmates. According to local charter captains, now is a good time to get in on the schoolie bass bite.

“I’m very optimistic about the Sound’s striper population,” said Captain Dixon Merkt, of Old Saybrook, Connecticut. “There’s a strong nucleus of fish in the 18- to 32-inch range, and over the last couple of years we’ve done very well with them. I think this year will be as good, if not better, than the last few years. What’s exciting about July stripers is that when you find them, you normally find them in numbers. You’re not going to catch just one fish — you’re going to catch six or more, especially if they are breaking along a rip or over a reef.”

Many of Connecticut’s linesiders are fish that spend the off-season in the deep channels of our major river systems and the Hudson River in New York. Once the water temperature reaches about 50 degrees (usually late April or early May), this multitude of fish migrates into Long Island Sound to spend the summer.
