The first time Satoru realised he loved you was when you were in college together. It was the last day of the semester before everyone bid farewell to each other and went home for the holiday season. You and him were walking along one pathway coming back from your Christmas shopping, snow falling softly around everyone’s body, and a chill in the air that made everyone want to snuggle up beside the fireplace in their houses.
Suguru and Shoko had joined you both too but then excused themselves to leave you two alone, hoping that the romantic ambiance of the holiday season would finally give Satoru the confidence to tell you how he felt.
To say he was a nervous wreck was an understanding. He had spent the whole afternoon talking to himself in the mirror, practicing what he would say so that he won't stumble on his words and ruin the moment.
He didn't have a problem talking to you as he normally does; you were his best friend after all, like Suguru and Shoko, but once he tries to tell you that you make his heart beat faster, make butterflies flood his stomach, it makes him lose all his senses. Suguru had to drag him out of his room, complaining about waiting for 'thirty fucking minutes' already.
Eventually, he met you and Shoko at the front gate of his house and walked with you towards the mall. The entire day, he felt so jittery, like he couldn’t stay still. You remained oblivious to the fact that Satoru was about ready to burst from the inside from how nervous he was.
Suguru and Shoko, on the other hand, couldn’t contain their laughter. By the time the sky began to fade into the night sky, Suguru and Shoko decided that now was as good of a time than ever and made up an excuse to leave the two of you alone.
Now here you were, walking beside Satoru, bundled up in your white scarf, and the cutest red blush on the tip of your nose. You readjusted your beanie, looking up at him to start conversation. Satoru felt his words get stuck in his throat, unable to remember how to speak with you staring up at him with the twinkle of oblivion in your eye.
"Toru?" you asked bumping your shoulder with him, noticing his uneasy expressions as you wrapped an arm around yourself to get some warmth as the snow had started to fall little more harshly, "am I that boring that your mind had to drift somewhere else?"
"God no." He blushed, finally able to say something without stumbling. Without thought, he wrapped one of his arm around you, bringing you closer to him. You sighed in content, melting into him and Satoru swore his heart swelled three times its size.
The snow crunched under your boots as you walked up the path. The lights lining the cobblestone street gave a yellow tint to the sight. He walked with you in silence but in his head, he was going over exactly what he wanted to say. This was the perfect time.
The snow falling from the sky, little snowflakes tangled in the strands of your hair. You were pressed up against his chest, so close to him that he could smell your perfume, sweet and addicting. There were no other people around, all too eager to find sanctuary in warmth that their houses brought. It was the perfect time.
He stopped walking, halting you with him. He let you go for a moment, taking a deep breath in and slowly let it out. You watched as the cloud of fog escaped his lips and dispersed into the air. His white hair poked out from under his hoodie, matted on his forehead. Satoru looked down at his wet boots, kicking around snow that pooled around the soles.
Finally, he looked up, taking your two hands into his palms in the process.
You smiled at the gesture, your heart fluttering in your chest. You looked at him, offering a comforting look as you raised your eyebrows up in suspicion, “What’s up, Toru?”
And just like that, all of the words he worked so hard to conjure up, slipped right out of his mind. When he saw you looking up at him, eyebrows raised, cheeks and nose tinted with a light shade of pink, and your lips plump and red, he realized that there were no words to describe what it was he felt about you.
You watched him in silence, studying the way he gave you a lopsided smile when you tucked a piece of his hair behind his ear. He leaned into your touch, letting out another sigh of relief.
“Nothing,” he finally spoke, letting go of your hands. He wrapped his arm around you again, hoping you won’t hear the marching of his heart in his chest. “You’re my best friend.”
-
The second time he realised he loved you was when he found you crying on your couch. He had came to check on you when you didn’t come over for the routine movie night. Every Saturday, you, him, Suguru and Shoko got together at each other’s places for movie nights. Laughter, jokes, entertainment, talks, drinks and what not went on full night and the next day all of you were passed out on either couch or the floor.
Today everyone was coming over at Satoru’s place. Suguru and Shoko were already there but when it kept getting late, Satoru became worried about you. Shoko tried assuring him you were okay, just stuck in some work but he wouldn’t believe it. Because you were time punctual and never missed the movie nights.
So he came over to yours and opened your door with the spare key you’d given him only to find you curled up in your couch, crying.
He immediately rushed over to you and wrapped his arms around you tightly as you held onto him. He didn’t say anything but stayed there, holding you, feeling his heart break as you sobbed into his chest.
A few moments later, when he felt you relaxing a little, he took your face in his hands as he asked, “better?”
You just nodded as you snuggled into him. Neither of you two said anything, a comfortable silence, just sitting there on your couch, engulfing each other, enjoying each other’s company.
“Now tell me what happened?” he asked softly when your crying had quieted down, afraid you might break again.
“It’s nothing. I just- its too much. Work, studies, family, everything. I just got too overwhelmed and just couldn’t keep it in anymore. And I had nobody present here for me to tell me that its okay or listen about what I felt.” You said now realising what mess you had made and quite embarrassed that Satoru had to see you this vulnerable. “God this is embarrassing! I’m so sorry.”
“Hey look at me.” He said, cupping your cheeks to make you look at him when you didn’t. “Everyone in this world has a vulnerable side. Everyone on this planet has things which is maybe too much overwhelming for them that they might just break at any point. Just like you did. But don’t ever apologise for this. Because none of it is your fault. Okay? And I’m always here for you. Even if you’re far away, I’ll always be there. You’re not alone, okay?”
You just nodded and gave him the smile he adored so much. And without saying anything else, he wrapped both of his arms around you once again, letting you rest your head on his chest. He kissed your forehead and hummed in content as you snuggled even closer to him if possible.
And as he looked down at the girl in his arms, he realised this is what he wanted for the rest of his life. He loved you.
-
The third time he realised he loved you was after summer. He hadn’t talked or heard from you since 4 months.
You left without a goodbye or a message to god knows where. He'd tried searching for you but always ended up getting disappointed. Suguru and Shoko missed you too. They had helped him to find you too but to no avail. It was like you’d disappeared into thin air.
Satoru often wondered if you ever thought about him like he did, if you missed him like he did. He knew you were probably out there pursuing your dream career, which you'd always talked about and wanted to do, but a part of him wanted to be there with you. To support and cheer for you at every step you take, to give you advices, to have late night celebration for your achievements. Call him selfish and everything. Everyday that passed, he cursed himself for not telling you how he felt before you left. Would it have made any difference? He’d like to think so. Even if it didn’t, he, at least, wouldn’t have to live every single day thinking: “What if?”
He kept a picture of you in his office. He often looked at it whenever he was free, always wondering how you were doing, if you were okay or not. Suguru and Shoko always found this sight pitful. They had tried to get him to move on, but all of them knew that Satoru was so in love with you and you were special to all three of them and that nobody could ever take your place.
It wasn’t until six months later when you stumbled into the building, chewing nervously on your bottom lip. A part of you knew you didn’t have the right to be there because you left them with no warning. You wouldn’t blame them if they asked you to leave the premises the minute their eyes landed on you. You knew you deserved the cold shoulder. Because if they were the ones who did that to you, you knew you wouldn’t be so forgiving.
The receptionist had told you to wait while she checked if the three of them were free or not. As you waited, you smiled sadly at the memories of last six months. You had gone for higher studies, as your dad had promised, for your dream career. You knew you should’ve at least informed someone before you left but everything happened just so fast that one moment your dad had agreed on your consent and the next moment you were on the plane.
Surely you enjoyed the studies and training period there, Paris being busy in days and nights, but having really nice places to visit. You would always go to the Eiffel tower, watching the sunset, half expecting for Satoru to wrap his arm around your waist but whenever you turned your head you’d always met with empty space. Whenever you came home exhausted, you always expected Satoru to be there with dinner ready and him greeting you with a welcome home kiss.
That’s why you came back. To be in his arms. To be able to kiss him. To be able to call him yours. Because you’d realise that your life was nothing if Gojo Satoru wasn’t in it.
The receptionist told you to go upstairs at floor 5 but as you were about to click the lift button, you heard someone running on the stairs. You turned to look who it was and your eyes locked with a pair of blue ones which were close to home. He just looked at you and slowly stepped towards you as you did the same.
When you were both closer to each other, he brought his hand up, touching your cheeks delicately as if making sure you were real.
Satoru couldn’t believe it. When the receptionist called him and said that someone named Y/N L/N was here to meet him, he left all his works and ran downstairs. And now that he’d seen you, he was mesmerised and shocked. Shocked because you were really here and mesmerised because you looked even more beautiful than before. He touched your cheeks delicately, making sure you were really here and not another one of his hallucinations. And then without another thought he took you into his arms and held you tight and closer to him, now promising himself to never let you go. All the feelings he still had for you, tripled. His heart rumbled in his chest, adrenaline pumping through his veins. Even after all this time, he was still so in love with you.
“No need to tell me where you were. Because I already know.” You were tearing up as you finally felt complete in his arms and realised how much you loved him.
“Don’t ever leave me like that again.” He said as he was starting to tear up too. He loved you so much and the thought of being apart once again was killing him.
“I won’t. Ever again. I promise.”
-
It didn’t take long for Satoru to tell you how he felt after you came back. He couldn’t hold it in any longer. Every moment that he didn’t get to call you his, chipped his heart. Both Shoko and Suguru were growing tired of it, encouraging him to just say it because they were sure you felt the same. He tried to ignore them, not wanting to get his hopes up, but he couldn’t help but think about how amazing it would feel if you told him you loved him back.
You came over to Satoru’s for dinner that night, Suguru insisted that they all missed you too much to go out to a restaurant. After dinner and catching up with everyone, you and Satoru excused yourselves and walked out in the garden. His hands were in his pockets, unable to look at you for more than a few seconds at a time. He’s been practicing what to say to you since years and yet, he still felt unprepared.
You were walking silently beside him, taking in the silence and calmness of the life you’re living now. You no longer had to worry about anything, just the day to day necessities, and your feelings for Satoru. Subconsciously, you intertwined your fingers with his snuggling up to his side for some warmth.
He froze for a moment. This is it, he thought, this is the perfect moment. So before he lost his confidence, he spoke, “Y/N, I have something to tell you.”
“Yes, Toru?” you asked, rubbing your thumb over the top of his hand. “What is it?”
There it was. He missed it. He missed the way you called him ‘Toru’. And now finally hearing it from you made his heart skip many beats.
He held you in your place, stopping in the middle of a field of flowers. The moon illuminated one side of your face, showing off your perfect features. Satoru smiled, reaching over to caress your cheekbone. With tears in his eyes, he said, “I love you.”
You gasped softly, looking up at him, “What?”
“I’m in love with you, Y/N,” Satoru sighed, connecting his forehead with yours. He closed his eyes for a moment, letting out a breathy laugh, “I’ve been in love with you for so long.”
You slowly brought your hand to his face and cupped his cheek as he melted in your touch. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I was afraid of what you'd say. I didn't want to ruin our friendship and lose you. I just thought that maybe if you didn't love me like that, I'd still have you. Even if it's just as your best friend."
"Then why now?" you asked, you voice getting even quieter. He kissed the palm of your hand as he met your eyes.
"Because after all those years of crushing on you, all those months of not being able to see you or be in your arms, made me realise how much in love I was with you. All those six months, you consumed all of my thoughts, your laughter was all I could hear in my silent nights, your smile was all I could see everywhere I went. And not being able to tell you how much I loved you was killing me." He finished, tears flowing uncontrollably from his eyes.
You didn't know when your eyes started tearing up. All you knew was how much you loved him at this moment. Him confessing all his feelings for you, so vulnerably. It made you realise how much you just wanted to hold him and never let him go.
So you said, "I'm in love with you too, Satoru."
At first he thought his ears were playing tricks on him. You loved him back? His eyes shot open, pulling away from you as he stared at you in disbelief. “Y-you love me?”
"Yes, you idiot." You chuckled through your tears, pulling him closer. Your lips ghosted over his, causing him to shiver. "I've been in love with you for a really long time as well."
"I'm really an idiot, aren't I?" he said, laughing a little.
"Yes, you are. But you're my idiot."
And with that, he kissed you. All those years where he hid his feelings came pouring out in this one kiss. His hands cupped your cheeks, pulling your face closer to his like there was any more space between the two of you to close. Your arms looped around his neck, his one hand snaked down to your waist to steady you while one still remained on your cheek. He kissed you, pouring in all his regrets, mistakes, apprehensions, into his love, no longer wanting to pass up an opportunity to love you for the rest of his life.
And when he pulled back for air, he had the biggest smile on his face. "I'm the luckiest man on this earth." You pecked him again as you gave him your biggest grin.
On your way back home, you could feel it, you could hear it in the silence, you could see it with the lights out in the garden. It lingered between you two, suffocating you but it was the best feeling ever. Gojo Satoru is in love with you. You are in love.

‘It’s gonna be fun,’ they told him. ‘Why would we pass up an invitation to the coolest party of the year when we never get these opportunities anyways?’ they said.
Jeff and Gareth are fucking idiots. Eddie doesn’t fit in here. None of them do. They stick out like terribly sore thumbs, and it’s nearly comical how obviously misplaced they are amongst this adolescent swarm of boring costumes.
Eddie looks like he walked straight out of the D&D dungeon master’s guide: devil-like horns attached to a flimsy headband that he had stolen from little Erica Sinclair, a red cape tucked into the collar of his signature Hellfire t-shirt, because — of course — how could he ever go a day without it? All of this coupled with a leather jacket, distressed denim and dark liner smudged around his eyes.
What is he exactly? It’s hard to say. His best description is: Izzy Stradlin of Guns N’ Roses meets the baatezu from the Nine Hells of Baator.
Or simply put – a sexy, red gothic devil.
Hawkins High’s infamous Halloween party sits right on the edge of a woodsy Indiana forest, nothing but oddly cut jack-o-lanterns and wax candles decorating the tops of tattered picnic tables. Hard soil and autumn leaves crunch beneath Eddie’s combat boots as he nurses his third solo cup of the night, already seeking for something stronger when he sees Jeff and Gareth being chatted up by a couple eager girls from the debate team.
Goddamn, do they really have more game than him?
He winces, lips curling into a distasteful frown as he busies himself by the candy table and slips a purple lollipop into his mouth with raised brows. In the corner of the crowd, Eddie glances at a couple making out by the beer keg that seem to be quite literally jumping at each other’s bones in public. Boo. He groans in annoyance, looking over his shoulder to find a classic blonde-brunette combo eating each other’s faces just as passionately.
Must be fucking nice.
Yeah, no. He’s going for a walk. Fuck this party and fuck everyone here, including Jeff and Gareth.
Never liked Halloween anyways. Always been more of a Valentine’s Day kind-of-guy.
Eddie crushes his solo cup and chucks it onto a random table, ignoring the protests of his classmates when he displays no intention of stopping or apologizing as he cooly saunters past. The silver chains strung across his belt loops jingle whilst he takes swift strides into the forest; the ruckus of the party fades behind him with each firm step he takes, the prominent wrinkles in his forehead softening as his ears free from a looping mixtape of Thriller.
He continues suckling on his lollipop, a stormy purple staining his tongue as he ventures deeper into the forest and away from that godforsaken, amateur highschool party. Whatever that fucking was, he’s over it. Completely and utterly over it.
That’s when he stumbles onto a clearing in the middle of the woods, surrounded by looming trees circling an old picnic table and…
You. Alone.
Eddie comes to a halt as soon as he sees the faint flickering of orange. Heavy curses fall from your lips as you tend to the tightly-rolled blunt between your fingers, a flame failing to ignite as a result of the cheap Zippo lighter in your opposite hand.
“Goddammit… shit… motherfucking…” You grunt, hurling the lighter in Eddie’s direction. He ducks immediately, eyes bulging out of his head like deer-in-headlights when you finally lock stares. Your childish gaze bounces from the discarded lighter to Eddie’s face. “I… um…”
He definitely knows you, even under the darkness of a haunting midnight sky. Definitely. He’s instantly taken back to the fall semester of his (second attempt) of senior year, having had you in a previous class where he often wondered what the pretty girl’s name who sat in the front was.
And said pretty girl is blinking at him expectantly.
Anyday now. Anyday. Say something, fucker.
“Need, uh, a light?”
Eddie digs his hand into the pocket of his leather jacket, fumbling with the boxy metal before you’re nodding at him with curious eyes and a soft smile. He quickly meets you halfway, feeling his heartbeat stutter when your manicured fingers brush against his palm and your warmth lingers upon his skin.
He takes in the sight of the witch hat resting atop your head, a classic black one that slopes into a swirl at the tip. Your lips are blood-red, almost complimenting the shade of Eddie’s cape and devil horns. A short, raven-colored dress hugs your body perfectly, the flowing sleeves flaring out by your hands as you successfully ignite the joint hanging from your faint smirk.
“Thanks.” You mumble, taking a heavy drag with an appreciative hum before you’re handing back his lighter and sitting down on the wooden bench. He follows suit, whispering a resigned ‘No problem’ as he plops himself onto the opposite end and tosses his lollipop stick to the side. “Party sucked?”
“Yeah, always does.”
“Oh, that’s never good.”
A pause.
“I like your costume…”
“Your costume is…”
The sentences fill the silence simultaneously, causing sincere laughter to follow suit on both parts as you sneakily glance at each other with wide grins. You lean over, sticking out your smaller palm with outstretched fingers. “Alright, I’m Y/N.”
Y/N, he repeats to himself.
Eddie doesn’t hesitate, gingerly enveloping his hand overs yours as he gives it a gentle squeeze. “And I’m—“
“Eddie.” You smile brightly, flicking the blunt against the edge of the table. “I know you. Hellfire himself, right?”
You know him. As if his stomach wasn’t churning with excitement already… you know him — not as the long-haired freak walking the hallways of Hawkins High, but as Eddie “Hellfire Himself” Munson. He can’t fight off the blood that rushes to his face; pink spreads across the bridge of his nose and cheeks as he catches your intent gaze accompanied by that enticing curl of your red lips.
“Yes, it is I… in the flesh.” He chuckles. “And Y/N,” Your name is sweet on his tongue, the name he’d finally come to learn after many months of pointless pining in history class back then. The name that he can’t help but play over and over again in his head, a melody of syllables too gentle for someone of his candor. He points at you, stressing each word with gaiety. “Miss top of the class, graduating senior president, is that right?”
You shrug casually. “In the flesh.”
He huffs in amusement, scratching his neck before he shamelessly watches you finger the thick layering of necklaces swooping into the fleshy valley of your breasts. You clear your throat, hiding your own pleased expression as his eyes helplessly bounce back up to your face with that boyish fear of having been caught looking at places he shouldn’t have been looking at.
Fuck, is it getting hot or is it just him? Awkwardly, he shrugs off his leather jacket, haphazardly laying it over the bench.
Okay, could Eddie seriously blame himself? He’s respectful. He is. Believe him when he says he loves women, and men. Yet it’s almost as if you’re letting him look, angling your hips towards him and parting your knees ever-so-slightly so that your short dress strategically rides up the expanse of your thighs. If you hike your leg up just a little bit higher, he’d see… fuck, he doesn’t know you like that. Stop it.
Does it matter, though?
“So, Eddie, what’s the reasoning behind…” You shift closer to his side of the table. Eddie’s gaze follows the way your fingers dart for the collar of his cape, thumb and forefinger rubbing the fabric purposefully. Your eyes lock, the corners of your lips tugging into a contagious line that Eddie can’t help but mirror. “... this bold choice of costume? A red devil is never good news.”
He wants to wipe that smirk clean off of your mouth. Maybe take some of your lipstick with it, too.
“I’m a good boy today, Y/N. Promise.” He smiles, swearing that he feels your body stiffen against him. “But I mean… it is Halloween, of course. Everyone’s on their worst behavior, pissing their own pants, ready to rob kids for candy…” If he hadn’t been so glued to the glittery shadow around your lids and the smudged mascara under your lower lashes, he wouldn’t have seen your not-so-subtle attempt at glancing at his lap. “... making out in… haunted places. You know, the usual.”
You squint. “Right.”
“Mhm.”
The bench creaks as you stand up, fingers tugging the length of your minidress back over your ass as you kick one boot in front of the other. Eddie remains frozen in his place, reddish leaves trailing past his line of sight while you lean yourself against a tall tree trunk.
You’re teasing him.
He doesn't even fully know you, and he’s already hoping for certain ways this could go.
If you wanted to play that game, you could’ve just asked.
“You know people say these woods are haunted?” Crossing your ankles, your newfound companion doesn’t tear his eyes off of your ripped fishnets, savouring your generous display of cleavage and gorgeous hips as you pull your blunt away from your lips with a hiss and wave it around. “Back in the 1700s, after the Salem witch trials… there were actually rumors that there had been some runaway witches in Hawkins. Didn’t turn out too well for them in the end.”
“Yeah? What happened?” You push off of the tree with the heel of your boot, slowly pacing your way back towards Eddie.
His thighs are spread apart widely, ringed hands drumming patiently against the tattoos on his forearms.
Fuck, he looks good.
“Whatever happens to all witches, I suppose.” You grin mischievously with enthusiastic eyes. “But I’ve always heard these parts are… full of spirits because of the… well, y’know.” A beat, then your knee is slowly pressing up against Eddie’s as you stare at the ground shyly with fluttering lashes. “Shame no one’s living up to Halloween tradition and making out — like you said — in… such a haunted place like this one.”
He exhales shakily, clenching his jaw when you curiously peer at him. “Most definitely.”
“I mean…” You giggle and turn your back to him, unable to see Eddie’s face contort into one of disappointment from the loss of physical contact. “I’m certain there’s an adorable, lovesick couple just bound to show up and fulfill…”
When you twirl around to teasingly look at Eddie, you nearly gasp out of surprise when you collide roughly with his chest. Your balance nearly gives way, but not before his pale hands grip onto your wrists and hold you upright. His knuckles are prominent, eyebrows pulled into a deep furrow and lips parted as his lust-blown pupils eagerly search yours.
He’s struggling.
And you think… this is finally it. Eddie Munson, the guy from the back of class who you’ve always kinda had a thing for, is gonna actually kiss you. Halloween night. 1986. Your peak.
But what he does next is almost as jarring as a kiss.
He carefully takes the blunt between your fingers, almost assessing the image of your lipstick stain on the end before he’s shamelessly putting his own mouth on it without hesitation. His eyes. His fucking eyes. They never leave yours, even when he inhales the joint deeply and quickly lets out an experienced exhale into your embarrassingly stunned face.
Whatever confidence you had going diminishes into a tangled ball of nothingness when Eddie holds the roll in front of your mouth, gaze half-lidded and tongue poking out from between his teeth.
“Open,” He says. And so you follow without protest, unblinking and suddenly submissive as he slips the joint back into its original place between your lips with a devilish chuckle. “Atta girl. Does what she’s told, doesn’t she?”
You gulp, only focusing on the taste of Eddie amongst the rolling paper. “Depends on who’s telling me.”
“Right, right. So, if I posed an idea… like well, fulfilling that very special tradition of… say, I don’t know, making out in a haunted place… just to make sure we’re really nailing the Halloween festivities here, little witch…” He humorously flicks at your hat, costumed horns bouncing while he begins to back you up against a tree. Eddie’s grin somehow widens even more, pearly-white canines on display as you slowly take a step back with each step he takes forward. “You definitely, definitely wouldn’t help me fulfill it, would you? Since it… after all, depends. And I’m sure the senior class president doesn’t take orders from… student delinquents like me.”
“Eddie…” You manage to breathe out, joint falling from your mouth as your back presses against the rough texture of tree bark.
“I mean, honestly, what are you doing all alone back here? Just… waiting for someone to stumble upon you and… what? What then, Y/N?” He laughs innocently, and you instinctively squeeze your thighs together as his fingers toy with the chains decorating his belt loops.
“Honestly?” You gaze up at him from beneath the black rim of your witch hat, mascara delicately framing the whites of your eyes. “Saw a tempting, red devil on the way here — thought he looked a little too lonely for a night like this one, especially when he just looked so good in such a simple costume. ‘Was hoping he’d find me… all alone, like you said.” You bite your lip. Eddie tilts his chin up and pins you with his eyes. “Was hoping that you’d find me all alone, and that I could… fuck, you looked bored at — at the party, and I figured you’d…”
“Come out and meet you…” Eddie finishes. You nod slowly.
“Halloween festivities, you know.”
He hums. “Right.” It’s silent for a good minute, until you feel Eddie’s hand ghost over your arm, trailing up your shoulder with such gentleness, you wouldn’t have even realized he had been touching you in the first place. “Well, I guess… if this place is haunted like you said, and if we’re the only two people out here…”
“Yeah?” Your voice comes out as a hushed whimper.
Eddie’s ears perk up at the sound. He pauses to catch his breath, desperately holding onto the remnants of his self-control.
“Then maybe, just maybe, we could always follow tradition. Is that… is that what you wanted, Y/N? For me to come out here just so we could make-out in the dark, away from the noise, tucked away deep in the forest where… no one can hear us? No matter how loud we’ll get?” A breathy moan escapes from the back of your throat, and Eddie realizes that he’s broken past whatever act you had going on. “That’s it, isn’t it? Hey, come on. Look at me, Y/N.” You raise your chin from your chest, meeting Eddie’s now softer eyes. “What do you want from me?”
He reaches for your hat, pulling it up and away from your face before his palms are resting against your cheeks. “Um, want you to…”
“To…” He spurs you on, stroking your skin with his thumbs.
In the shadows, Eddie’s face is so desperately close to yours that you can just smell the strong fragrance of his earthy cologne and the faint lingering taste of whatever he had been drinking.
All or nothing.
“To kiss me.” You swallow loudly, forcing the words out of your mouth. “Kiss me and… and don’t stop, please? Eddie?”
His eyes bore deep into yours, nothing but a lustful twinkle in his near-black pupils as he inhales deeply.
“Damn it, Y/N. All you had to do was fucking ask from the start.”
By the time the words finally leave him, Eddie’s lips are on you. It’s far from sweet, aching with a clandestine fervor as his mouth moves harshly against yours. Hot. Searing. Wet. Your fists are woven tightly amongst the cotton of his Hellfire shirt, and you kiss him helplessly with eyes clenched-shut, the sensation of his warm tongue keeping you in a trance.
Overpowering. Imperfect. Messy.
Yet, you want more of him.
You feel the soft tickle of his breath beneath your nose, fingers rustling through his hair as you cave into one another with unrestrained motion. Warmth blossoms in Eddie’s stomach as you lean back against the tree trunk to pull away, the fresh memory of your moans dancing against his pillowy lips while you stumble for air.
“Was that okay?” He whispers tenderly. You could almost burst out in laughter. How could his tone be so patient and friendly when his kiss had been nothing but wanton and needy? Slowly, a smile spreads across your cheeks, a weak nod following. “Can I do it again?”
“You can do anything you want.” You answer, brushing his hair away from his face before his hands drift down to your waist.
The action is suggestive, fingers leaving deep indents in the supple flesh of where hip-meets-thigh as he slips his knee between your legs. Then his mouth is on your body again. He’s more adventurous this second time around, letting his lips trail over your shoulder and the conch of your ear before he’s kissing his way down your outstretched throat — biting, licking, sucking.
He’s hard. Really hard.
“Fuck, Y/N…” His voice is whiny, nothing but a simple rasp filling the air as you sensually tend to his pale neck, teeth nibbling the skin until porcelain turns to a blooming red. “S-Sweetheart, hey… I don’t… fucking hell,  don’t wanna make you do anything you don’t want to—“
“But I want to. I’m okay if you’re okay.”
“Shit, okay. Okay. I… fuck, I wasn’t expecting more than a kiss, but…” He moans embarrassingly loud when you tug at the curls of his hair, tilting his chin back so that you have more access to his throat. “Fuck, I hope you don’t think I’m like — like any of those assholes back there… just… looking for a quick fuck or anything….”
“Were you not?”
“Fine, maybe I was. Maybe I wanted to — to run into a… pretty girl like you… sitting alone out here, all dressed up with a shitty fucking lighter, by the way. Bet that was part of your plan too, huh? Reel me in and smoke that pathetic joint like you’re all tough?” Eddie cradles the back of your neck with his hand, whispering lewdly against your lips as he searches for another kiss. “God, you’re so hot. So hot.”
“You didn’t even k-know my name…”
“Shut it. I do now, and I want nothing more than — fuck, than to just say it over and over again until you get tired of hearing it.”
“Yeah?” You smirk against Eddie’s skin, glancing up at his beat-red face and the lopsided devil horns on his head before gingerly reaching up to toss them aside.
He’s a devil, alright.
Eddie nods eagerly, eyes cracking open when he feels your mouth leave him and the familiar clicking sound of his belt buckle. Holy fucking shit. “Oh, here? Like right here f-for real?” He gapes at you as you unbutton his jeans, slipping your hand into his pants to palm at the hard front of his boxers.
“Having second thoughts?”
“You’re… you’re fucking insane.” He chuckles in disbelief, groaning quietly when you rest your forehead against his shoulder and free his cock from his clothing. Glancing up at the sky, Eddie humorously whispers to himself. “Oh, crazy girls will just be the death of me.”
“Eddie, you’re so big…” You wrap your fingers around his swollen tip, moaning as you collect the pre-cum leaking from his slit. You pump him a couple times in your hand, grinning as Eddie’s face falls into the crook of your neck. “Dunno if it’ll fit me.”
“Mmm… oh, Y/N — fuck…”
“Feels good?” You lick at his earlobe, purring as you run your digits across the two veins on either side of the base.
Eddie’s weight against you is nearly crushing, but you can only pay attention to the feeling of his hard, heavy cock twitching in your grasp as you stroke him.
“Christ, feels amazing. Fuck, baby…” The pet name leaves him without hesitation. He chokes on his own moans, incoherent praises falling from his lips as he desperately splays his palm against the tree for leverage. His eyes follow the motion of you spitting into your hand, before you’re covering his dick in bubbly spit. “O-Oh, shit… that’s hot. Motherfuckin’ Ozzy… m’fuck, you’re jerking me off s-so well. God, I wonder how — wonder how tight you are…”
“Want you…” You confess, mewling in pleasure as his other palm kneads at your ass. “I bet you taste so good, Eddie.”
“Fuck yeah, I do.” He groans needily, breaths stuttering in his throat as you sink to your knees. Leaves crunch beneath your limbs, sharp twigs digging into your calves as Eddie watches you tug his jeans lower down his hips. “Listen, o-once you put your mouth on me… I don’t know if I’ll be able to stop.”
“Mmm, stop what?” You innocently bat your lashes at him, gently flicking your tongue against his reddened head.
“To stop fucking your throat.” Eddie’s mouth falls ajar as soon as he feels you take him in. “I just… crap, I can’t help it. Just no self-control… please, let me fuck it? Yeah? Is that okay?” He whimpers. “Oh, you’re such a good girl, Y/N. Giving me all I-I want… fuck, can’t wait to get my hands on you…” Spit dribbles from your chin as you gag around him, feeling his dick poke against the back of your throat while he places his hands on either side of your head. “Look at you, baby. On your knees in the middle of t-the fucking forest… patiently waiting to have your entire mouth stuffed… s’what good girls do, don’t they?”
You scratch at the tattoos on his thighs as he gives one hard thrust into your face, nearly doubling back from the sudden force. Breathe. Just breathe through it. His cock isn’t necessarily too thick, but the length — god, he could split you open.
Eight inches, curve angling to the left, you can literally feel him prodding and poking at the inside of your cheek. Your fingers are curling against his skin, pornographic sounds erupting from the both of you as Eddie guides your head up and down his dick.
“Oh… little witch,” He chuckles devilishly, wiping the tears away from your eyes as he gently inches his cock further into your mouth. Sadist. “Don’t cry, it’s supposed to feel good. You like this, don’t you? God, what would all our classmates say if they walked in on this right now?” You nearly yelp as he pushes himself deeper into you, your knees giving out from under you so that you’re sat upright against the tree. “The super intelligent, super hot, senior class president… getting her mouth f-fucked by the resident freak… oh, just imagine the drama.”
Your legs are crudely spread open, dress covered in dirt and leaves as Eddie continues thrusting into your throat. All you can smell is him. All you can think about is Eddie Munson. How embarrassingly satisfying this all feels — just as much for you as for him.
“Fuck, Y/N. Your mouth is just… Christ, you’re perfect, aren’t you? Perfect thing. Perfect throat. Probably with an even better pussy… the things I wanna do to you. F-Fuck’s sake, you’re gonna make me cum if you keep looking at me like that, sweetheart.” He quickly pulls away, and it’s absolutely pathetic how you instinctively chase after his cock with your tongue until he’s tugging you up onto your feet. “Pretty girl, oh, look at you… wish you could see how messy you look right now. So fucking hot, so fucking dirty, you are.”
“E-Eddie…” You whimper as his teeth pinch at your collarbones, marking the tops of your breasts until he’s grown feral at the sight of his hickies on your skin. His dick is hard against your thigh, and only then are you reminded of how your cunt is helplessly throbbing at the sight of it. “Please, I… please, need you inside m-me…”
His hand roughly grasps at your chin.
“Yeah? Aw, you’re a needy thing, aren’t you? Such a filthy mouth for a good little slut…” He chuckles, mirroring your pout as his grip tightens. “Maybe we should wash it out, hm? All this flattery is just getting to my head. Come on. Say, ah.”
“Ah…” You moan as he spits onto your tongue, a string of saliva connecting your bottom lips together before he’s pulling you in for another heated kiss. His hands are bruising, his fingers cruel, his touch burning. “Please, Eddie…”
“Please what?”
“Please touch my — my…”
He smirks lustfully, brushing the moisture away from your lashes. “Oh, your pussy? Anything for you, sweetheart.” You yelp as he suddenly turns you around, cock twitching against your clothed ass. He pushes against you, walking you over to the rickety picnic table until you’re bent over the edge. “Boutta treat you so well, Y/N. Just relax for me. Gonna put my fingers inside you, is that cool?” You nod wordlessly, splinters digging into your palms as Eddie flips up your dress, hissing at the sight of your exposed cunt. “No… no panties, huh? Seriously? Fuck, you’re gonna kill me. Such a pretty ass… pretty holes…” He groans, swiping his thumb over your clit. You jolt at the sensation, shoulders heaving as he quickly swirls it over your entrance. “You’re so wet and already so sensitive… s’driving me insane. How am I ever gonna last?”
You cry out when he pushes his middle finger into you, juices squelching around his rings as he slowly fucks the nimble digit in and out of your sopping pussy. “F-Fuck, Eddie… I… feels so g-good, baby.”
“Yeah? Baby, huh? Love hearing you talk me through it. Tell me, have you always fantasized getting fingered out here? That’s a little sick in the head, don’t you think? And they call me a freak…” You glance at him over your shoulder, moaning unapologetically as he adds another finger. “Mmm, alright, you’re getting a bit loud. Fuck, you want that party to catch us? Catch us making a mess of each other back here… making each other feel so, so good?”
You knew Eddie had a dark, dirty side to him. There was no way he didn't have one, especially when he’d come to school dressed like that — chains on display for girls and guys to gawk at, rings decorating his fingers like they were his favorite asset.
Yeah. He’s just as fucked in the head, maybe even more.
You’re just glad you get to be the one to experience it.
“I don’t care. Let them hear us… fuck — it’s just…. oh, god… your fingers are just… they fill me so well. Just imagine your… your cock inside me, just wrecking my cunt, until I can’t take it anymore.” Eddie grabs you by the throat, letting his hand fall to your breasts and stomach as you fuck yourself on his fingers. “Oh, please, please, please!”
“Are you gonna cum? God, you’re having so much fun right now, you can’t even speak. Answer me, baby.” He cooes, the tip of his cock pressing against the sore cheek of your ass.
You screw your eyes shut, zeroing in on the pulsing pressure in your cunt. “Y-Yes! If you keep — if you keep touching me like that, I’m gonna…”
“No, you aren’t. You’re not gonna cum for me just yet.”
“But…”
“Nu-uh, no, no cumming.” Eddie’s mouth hovers over your ear. “Good girls cum when they're supposed to. Don’t change up on me now, Y/N. You’ve been doing so well.”
“I’m s-sorry, I can’t… can’t hold it…” You let out a strangled grunt when his fingers dig into your pulse points, fully constricting your airway as he hooks an arm around your stomach and pulls you to his chest. “Eddie, please. Wanna — wanna cum for you, just this once, an exception…”
“An exception? Sweetheart, I don’t even know you.” His eyes nearly roll back into his skull when your ass desperately grinds against him, your hand coming to rest back on his thigh as he subconsciously rocks against your shivering frame. “Fuck, but I guess I-I can try to get to know you, make it worth my while… an exception, tonight only. S’okay, Y/N. You can cum for me. Cum all you want, as hard as you need to.”
As soon as your thighs quiver around his hand, he lets go of your throat, using his now-free one to circle over your clit. You hadn’t even realized he’d been using three fingers to fuck your cunt — shit, when did that ever happen?
His mouth is hot against the slope of your shoulder, mirroring your mewls as you come undone all over his rings and knuckles. The heavy silver drips with your juices, slick coating the soft heel of his palm and the shuddering tip of Eddie’s aching cock. Your face is glazed over, chest rising and falling deeply as you collapse over the edge of the table in pure bliss.
“Fuck… fuck, that was so… good…” Eddie turns you in your hands, hoisting you up on the surface and barely giving you time to recover before you feel something slip between your folds. “Oh!” His thick head splits you open, a satisfying sting running through your body as he bottoms out and molds himself against your front. “E-Eddie!”
“I’m sorry. I know, I know it’s a lot for you, sweetheart…” He cups his hand over your mouth, muffling your sobs as he stills inside you. “Feels good though, yeah? Fuck, I can feel you squeezin’ me — holy shit, baby. Is this what you wanted? Is this your — your definition of Halloween tradition… getting your pussy filled up with my cock? You love it. You fucking love it, I can tell. I just couldn’t wait to have you… and it’s everything I-I could’ve ever dreamed of.”
“S’big, s’too big, Eds…”
“Hey, I got you…” He whispers, cradling your jaw in his palm. His warm, big eyes meet yours, a comforting brown lulling you into a trance as he thumbs at your lip. He leans in to kiss you, mouth slow and patient against yours as you gasp into him. “Gonna t-take care of you, promise. You’re gonna look so… so fucking hot with my… cum just drippin’ out…”
Eddie jerks his cock into you, before thrusting the rest of his length inside without forewarning. You cry out, vision blurring as he picks your witch hat off of the empty bench and places it on your head. “There we go, little witch… scream all you want, cry all you want… they won’t h-hear you…” Eddie pants out, purring as you reach under his shirt and run your nails down his toned stomach. “Not when they’re — fuck, blasting that awful fucking music…
“E-Eddie! Holy f-fucking shit!”
“Oh, such a shame they won’t hear all the pretty noises we make together.”
Your legs wrap around his hips, boots digging into the fabric of his cape as he fucks you hard into the creaking table. He rests his forehead to yours, nudging your nose with a sudden and sweet tenderness that has your walls fluttering around his prick.
Eddie Munson is ruthlessly fucking you in the forest.
And he’s fucking you hard.
Your hat is falling into your face. His lean arms are the only thing keeping you upright, the lewd sounds of skin slapping against skin and pornographic moans filling the woodsy atmosphere. His cock pounds into your g-spot over and over again, thrusts sloppy and amateur as Eddie rests your ankles onto his shoulders for better access to your cunt.
Sure, you got up to bad things on Halloween… but this? This certainly takes the cake.
It’s absolute filth — with his long hair sticking to your sweaty skin, the stench of wet soil fighting Eddie’s musky cologne, the slick between your thighs as you cum for a second time around his length, milking him to his very-much-needed orgasm.
You can’t tell if it’s a grunt or a sob or a moan, but Eddie buries the noises against your tender neck, hips bucking lazily as he finally releases his spill into your pussy. He stutters and pulsates inside you, the angry head of his cock throbbing as he comes down from his high.
“Jesus, M-Mary, and Ozzy…” Eddie sighs out, whimpering while you lay back against the table and wipe the runny mascara away from your eyes. His own eyeliner is smudged too — almost a little too racoon-y for his liking — but it doesn’t matter.
Doesn’t matter when his cum is seeping out of your cunt and onto the wooden tabletop beneath you. Doesn’t matter when he watches you physically shake from your orgasm and takes in the sight of your bloodied knees.
Definitely doesn’t matter when you glance down at him and give him the prettiest fucked-out smile he’s ever seen.
Yeah, that’s for sure staying ingrained in his head.
“Fucking hell.” You breathe out, biting the nail of your thumb as Eddie gently nudges his seed back into your pussy with his fingers, obviously distracted. “Hey.”
How could he make such a dirty act seem absolutely innocent?
He shyly returns the grin, pulling his boxers and jeans up before he’s wrestling with the chains around his belt buckle. “Hey, you.”
“Help me up?” You stick your palm out, mirroring the same manner of the handshake you had given him in your first twenty seconds of speaking to each other. Eddie effortlessly pulls you off of the table, keeping a cautious arm around your waist when your legs start to wobble beneath you. “Thanks.”
“No problem.”
You take note of the way his nose lingers by the top of your head, inhaling your scent with a sudden yearning that makes your heart quicken when you bump against his chest.
Awkward clearings of throats, shy double takes and silent gazes at each other as you fix your wild appearances. Eddie’s unsure of what to say — goodbye? Farewell? Thank you? See you again?
God, would it be so lame if he wanted the last option?
But you beat him to it, syllables nervously strung together as you toy with his devil-horn headband in your hands. “Well, you, um, definitely lived up to tradition.”
“Did I now? Honestly just wondering how no one heard us.”
“Come on, it’s Halloween night in the middle of a haunted forest.” You blink up at him, fixing the rim of your witch hat as he peers down at you. “Have you ever seen a horror movie? You never go towards the screaming. It’s like the number one, all-time logical rule.”
Eddie waves a hand around, laughing comfortably at your presence of lightheartedness. “Oh, yeah. Never. For sure.” He huffs, glancing at his shoes before locking onto your soft eyes. His brain haywires at the sight of your doting expression, a contrast to the filthy-mouthed girl he had just been dealing with earlier. “Never.”
Snap out of it.
You clear your throat, dusting the front of your dress off as Eddie squares his shoulders and straightens his back. “So… then… I guess…”
He points at the dirt path leading to the party. “Right…”
“I’ll…”
“See you around?” He coughs out in a hopeful tone.
You don’t answer, just slowly stride past him with crunchy footsteps and a youthful smirk.
Then you’re suddenly turning on your heels and barrelling back to him, a warm hand cupping his jaw as you press a chaste kiss to his cheekbone. Eddie savors the moment, refusing to shut his eyes when you reach up on your tippy-toes and slip his horned headband back onto his mess of curls.
He looks at you as if you’ve just killed him. “You’re really something, you know that?”
Your stomach flutters. “Look, I enjoyed… tonight. And I… if ever you… you wanted to continue tradition…”
“Yeah?” He raises a brow.
“I mean, like… it doesn’t have to be yearly and it doesn’t have to be Halloween, but I…” You take a deep breath, letting your fingers trail down his jaw before your hand falls limp at your side. “I enjoyed. That’s it. And whenever you feel a bit… festive…” You exhale loudly, glancing away as Eddie tucks a strand of hair behind your ear. “Just come looking for me.”
You’re being absolutely serious with him.
“Okay.”
“Good.” You turn back and make a beeline for the party, unable to hide the blossoming smile on your face when you hear the familiar hymn of Eddie’s voice abruptly calling out your name. “Yes?”
A glimmering object is tossed in your direction, landing in your palms as you instinctively reach out to catch it.
His lighter.
“Keep it. It’s all yours.”
Somehow, your grin widens even more. “I’ll see you around, then.”
Maybe Eddie Munson is a Halloween kind-of-guy. So, fuck Valentine’s, because he could get used to this. Used to you. Either way, he’s glad that he’s still got more game than Jeff and Gareth — not that he seriously doubted it in the first place, but the assurance is there.
Turns out the sexy, red gothic devil worked out for him in the end, anyways.
“See you around, little witch.”

Summer isn't Steve's favorite season.
He has always hated it. The sweat, the heat, the brightness. He'd rather have the coolness of fall, the leaves crunching as it finally falls.
There's a wet patch of sweat on his back, making his shirt press against his back. His only solace is the shade the tree provides for him, the rustle of the leaves against the wind reminds him of the summers spent as a child in the lake.
"Steve!"
When he opens his eyes, he sees Eddie laughing, hauling a basket of fruits. Eddie is the summer personified.
"I stole this from the kids." He snickers. The kids in question are playing, their shrieks of joy and excitement spreads with the wind.
Eddie sits crisscross beside him, opening the basket of oranges.
"Want one?"
Steve shrugs, pulling his glasses up to his hair to see him clearer as Eddie starts peeling the orange. First, the top, then the skin. One by one.
After fighting a silent war, it's been easier to find peace in the in betweens. There's peace in washing the dishes, in the painstaking task of mowing, in the noisy D&D games.
Eddie breaks the orange in half. He takes the first piece and offers it to Steve.
"Sweetheart?"
Eddie's smiling at him, whole eyes bright and fond. There's a wrinkle in his forehead, just above his eyes. The wind sweeps his hair, tied in a high bun. There's wisps of hair framing his face. He is smaller now than when Steve first met him, skin and bones turned into bait, his body still healing. His energy still radiates off him, like a ball of energy only Eddie Munson can possess.
With Eddie, there's always peace. There's no in between.
"Thank you." Steve finally says as he takes the slice and pops it in his mouth.
The first burst of flavor is sweet. Hundreds of tiny pulps dancing on his taste buds. There's a hint of tanginess in it, but it's only part of its charm. It's refreshing, perfect for the hot, sunny day.
Eddie watches every emotion on his face, "Good?"
Steve smiles. He smiles the best smile he think he has, lips curved upward, teeth gummy and wide and he thinks it's never going to be enough.
Not one smile will ever be enough to show Eddie just how happy Steve is to be with him.
"Good." Steve moves forward to leave a sticky kiss on his cheeks.
"EW!" Eddie laughs, it's loud, and crass, and wonderful. It's all the good things about summer, all bundled up together in one laugh. It's the cold water, the refreshing lemonade, the longer days.
Summer is Steve Harrington's favorite season.

You Call It Madness But I Call It Love
Chapter 7: Are We Old Friends Or Old Enemies?
Tumblr media
Pairing: Soldier Boy x f!reader, Reader POV
Summary: When the reader left Payback 40 years ago after a falling out with her childhood best friend she never looked back, but when two men show up to her apartment and start asking her questions about the past, the reader begins to think those things can’t stay hidden and starts to question what’s real and what’s fantasy.  This is a re-telling of The Boys Season 3, where the reader is a supe who's known Soldier Boy since 1927. The chapters will fluctuate between past and present. This is chapter seven of my "You Call It Madness But I Call It Love" series. (I'm so bad at summaries please forgive me!)
Word Count: 5K
Warnings: I'm going to rate this 18+ just to be sure. References to Past Sex, Sexual Innuendo, Cursing, Blood, Guts, Graphic Death, (spoilers?), Soldier Boy might be, is, really, absolutely, a little OOC.
Note: This is told from Reader's perspective. Any references to the reader is made using you or your. There is minimal use of y/n. I tried my best to proofread, but nobody's perfect. Reader is described as "curvy" occasionally. If you don’t like, don’t read, but if you do like, you’re my favorite!
Internal Monologue is in first person and is in italics

*********************************************************
Present Day
Your motorcycle crunches loudly against the black gravel driveway outside of Crimson Countess' trailer. It looks worse than you imagined, shoved behind Vought-land, and sprouting out of the ground like a fungus. Not an unusual thought given it's ogre-like inhabitant.
You weren't looking forward to seeing her after all these years, because you knew it wasn't going to end well. Deep down you hoped that she had let go of everything that happened in the past, like you had tried, well, until Butcher and Hughie showed up at your apartment. Then again, you're not sure that you've really let go of everything that happened. Sometimes it felt like you just shoved all your feelings into the deepest darkest part of your brain where they’d been festering for the past forty years.
And ever since Butcher and Hughie showed up, those feelings had been clawing their way out like a banished Titan climbing out of Tartarus.
You think again about driving away. If you saw her, there wouldn't be any going back. You couldn't go in there pretending to be your daughter, you had to be you. Which meant the possibility of losing the life you'd constructed in the aftermath that followed your long superhero career.
Was it worth it? Was Ben worth it?
You sigh considering that thought. After the fight it was difficult to answer that question. If the answer was no, you might as well just leave. But the answer was yes. You hated that after everything that happened between Ben and you, the answer was yes.
And that meant you needed to know the truth, needed to see it in her eyes. Which also meant there was only one choice.
You look around the clearing where the trailer sits. It’s in a circle of trees that filter the setting sunlight through their lofty branches, making patterns on the gravel where weeds and patches of grass break through every few feet like an oasis in a desert. Further down the road to the right you see a collection of empty circus carts that rust onto yellowed grass, rising from the earth to tangle in the wooden wheels of the carts.
At least the trees are pretty. You think to yourself trying to focus on the positive. They were, after all, one of your favorite things to paint.
You consider your apartment downtown, the open floor plan and large windows, very different from how she chose to live her life. Your eyes trace the mobile home thinking back about the fungus analogy.
The trailer was covered with peeling white paint stained black and yellow in some areas where sticky mold had begun to fester against the structure. The rickety porch was rotted, so much so that when you walked across it, it creaked loudly beneath your feet and you stepped around several foot-sized holes, where others had fallen through.
She definitely didn't budget her money well. I wonder how much money she got when she was a hero? I know that my salary wasn't amazing. Ben definitely did better than me because of his films.
Then again, you were living off money from your father, and your grandfather's investments in real estate, not to mention your artwork was selling better than it ever had.
Your knock against the flimsy front door of the mobile home, not using your supe strength, but the entire house still shakes.
Probably wouldn't withstand a thunderstorm. Hopefully she's invested in an umbrella.
No one answers and for a moment you hope that she's not here or she's dead, but just like always you’re disappointed.
"Who the fuck is it?" You hear Countess' familiar voice shout from inside.
A swarm of memories flock across your mind at her voice, but you push them aside.
"Your best friend in the whole world." You respond, before you can stop yourself. Sarcasm was an easy fallback. If your mother was here she'd say that it wasn't ladylike.
Really just disappointing her in every century. The thought makes you happy.
"What?" Countess rips open the door so savagely that you wonder how the door didn't come off in her hand. You watch her eyes widen and her face pale as her gaze lands on you.
Well, that's certainly not a normal reaction to seeing me.
"Y/n?" You hear her heartbeat spike in her chest. "You're-" She sputters to look for the right word.
"Alive? Yes." You smile at her. "Well, aren't you going to invite me in?"
"Um-"
A flash of the last time you saw her comes roaring back. The smug look on her face when you caught her and Ben together, the way her face was flushed bright red, sweat dotting her hairline while he- You clear your throat to stop the memory.
You push past her into the small residence, not waiting for her to invite you, and your nose wrinkles as the smell of sweat and her rancid perfume invade your nostrils. It was barely two rooms, the small kitchen/living room was separated from the bedroom with a red beaded curtain that doesn't hide the unmade bed and clothes covered floor.
This was unusual given the fact that she was wearing her supe suit, complete with cape and mask. It was a little tighter in some places than you remember, her reddish hair reeked of cheap dye, her perfume like a cloud of sulfuric acid, and her pointed, cruel face was more wrinkled that the last time you saw her.
"I'd like to say that this is cute," You turn to look back at her from the small kitchen/living room, that was covered in dirty plates and take-out boxes. "But it's kind of a shit hole, isn't it?"
That was fast. So much for trying to be civil. Too much history I guess.
"What are you doing here?" She keeps her voice calm, but the tempo of her heart suggests otherwise.
Your eyes trace the lines of her face, the wrinkles, the subtle graying of her hair that the dye couldn't cover. "Just thought I'd check in. See how things are going. You definitely didn't age well."
"What the fuck do you want?" She snarls this time.
You can't help but smile at her. Something about this whole situation was utterly ridiculous to you.
She said Ben died. Why am I even here? What did she have to gain from his death? The thought swishes around in your brain. But then why was she afraid when she saw me? You think about all the times you spent watching her manipulate the others on Payback and all the other times you were around her, she never showed fear. Why now?
"I'm here because somebody showed up the other day asking me about Ben." You shrug, running one of your hands against the dirty kitchen countertop examining the tip of your finger as if looking for dust. "And it's funny, because as they were asking me questions I realized that you and I never talked about what happened that day. I mean I heard what you said through Stan and Legend, but I never heard it from you. Thought it was time we had a little heart to heart."
Her pulse spikes again, but she covers it with a smirk. "You want to talk about Ben?" Her voice drips with false sweetness. "Well I'll say this, he was a good fuck. But I'm sure you knew that."
Your entire body goes rigid, remembering the night that you found them together, the night after you finally told him you loved him and he pushed you away.
"I mean, after all, he popped your cherry didn't he? Made you a woman." Countess' smirk turns into a rueful smile. "You definitely waited long enough. Ben told me how long you’d been friends. He told me the sex was so boring, that you were so inexperienced, that he wanted a real woman who could actually please him. A woman who wasn’t quite so-." She sniffs, tapping a bright red fingernail against her hip. “Big.”
Her words are like a slap in the face and you feel the cold disapproval of your mother for the first time in eighty years. The anger that surges up underneath your skin flares hot against your cheeks.
Ben wouldn't have said that about me. He- he knew how special that was for me. He said that he wanted it to be special for me.
You remember how happy he looked when you woke up in his arms the next day, before you said the three little words that you couldn't hold in anymore, the ones that you had wanted to say to him since you were eight.
"Poor little y/n. You worshiped the ground he walked on for so long  and finally he decided to pity fuck you. It’s so sad. You wasted your life pining for someone who will never love you. And you thought you could just come here and intimidate me? You’re still the same little girl who begged Ben to fuck yo-"
Her body flies forward telekinetically into your outstretched hand, that clamps down around her throat.
"But I do intimidate you." Your eyes shift to purple with your display of power. "Your heart rate hasn't dropped below 120 since I got here. So obviously there's a reason why you're afraid of me." She gasps against your hand, but you don't let go. "Tell me what happened that day." Your voice has slipped into a monotone, tinged with rage. “And I promise that I’ll let you live. In what condition, well, that's up to you.”
"I don't have to tell you anything!" She spits, pushing her hands together and sending you flying backward as the ball of fire hits you just under the right side of your rib cage.
There's a high pitched popping sound, an immeasurable amount of pain, and everything goes black.
It wasn't the first time you'd died. You'd heard of other supes being able to come back from the dead, and of course the others like Ben and Homelander who were almost invulnerable to injury, but your gift was different. Yes you had enhanced senses, speed, and strength, which were the original powers that were displayed after you received the injection of Compound V, but there was more to it than that.
It took you the first two deaths to figure it out, and you could remember both clearly.
The first was a few weeks after you took Compound V, when you and Ben were on his tour overseas promoting the might of the United States. It was supposed to be safe. The shot fired from the crowd was meant for Ben, but you pushed him out of the way. It was before you figured out he was bulletproof. Your gut reaction was to protect him as it always was. He ripped the guy in half for what he did and turned back to you. You remembered how he looked, remembered the fear in his eyes he never allowed to break through the façade he wore as Soldier Boy as he held you across his lap, holding a hand against the wound where blood poured freely from your chest. You remembered gazing up at him for what you thought was the last time and then the darkness that followed, welcoming you like an old friend.
And then thirteen seconds later you woke up, gasping for air, the bullet wound healed leaving only a circular scar behind. You didn’t understand at first, it wasn't until you died the second time that you realized how powerful you could be. The second time was Ben's fault, a scorned lover, a telekinetic, with a bone to pick with him. When you got in her way she'd snapped your neck with her powers. But this time when you woke, it was different, you felt different. You could feel her powers stirring beneath your skin, and it wasn't until you flicked her away from Ben that you understood. When you died a normal way you came back after 13 seconds, but when a supe killed you, you came back in 13 seconds with their powers.
You didn’t know why 13 seconds. In fact it was Ben that told you it was exactly 13 seconds, why he knew that you didn't know. It seemed that for everyone else 13 was an unlucky number, but for you it was the difference between life and death, literally. You also didn’t understand why you kept the powers. Sometimes you wondered if when you were killed by a supe your body analyzed how you died, understood it, and then you came back with that forbidden knowledge like you’d just eaten the fruit off the wrong tree.
Ben was the only one who knew and when anyone asked, you attributed your sudden ability to move things with your mind as something you never used in public. Having that much power scared you. You weren't sure what people or Vought would do if they found out, so you kept it to yourself and so did Ben. Honestly, sometimes you think the reason why he kept it to himself was because he didn’t want anyone to be more powerful than him, but you didn’t care about the abilities. You didn’t think you were a god despite Vought’s constant worship and praise. If anything, you felt closer to hell and in a binding contract with the devil.
Exactly thirteen seconds later, you sit up from the floor completely healed while Countess stands there over you, a horrified look on her face. She'd never seen you die before.
"Did you just try to kill me Countess?" You ask.
She puts her hands together to shoot another fireball, but you make a motion with your hand to that flicks her away. Her body soars backward illuminated in the purple glow that manifests with your telekinesis, into the small hallway that leads to the bathroom on the other side of the mobile home.
"You know," You stand from the ground looking down at your melted motorcycle jacket. "This was my favorite jacket. Had it from the 80's it was vintage. Damn.”
“How-“ She groans stumbling to her feet and leaning on the wall for support.
“We all have our secrets don’t we? And I'd love to hear yours."
Her eyes flash to where the front door is, but you beat her to it, yanking her back towards you by the arm, crushing her right wrist in your hand. Her scream of pain quenches the anger fueling in your chest from the words she snarled at you earlier.
"You're pretty worthless, even with your powers." You sigh. “I was hoping for more of a challenge.”
She cradles her broken wrist to her chest, backing away from you. Fear flashes in her eyes when she realizes that she's made a mistake, but instead of it making you feel powerful, it makes you pause.
Being a hero was difficult. You watched how so many others abused their powers over the years, feigning to be pure and heroic but really succumbing to dark urges when no one was looking. It was also why you hated Herogasm.
You hated it because you knew what happened to the normal people, the ones that thought they would be safe with the heroes they admired so much. You'd watched Ben lose control more than once, knew stories of innocent people that were hurt, not that Countess was innocent. But you never liked to hurt people with your powers. Standing here in this trailer made you guilty and watching her cower away from you made you guilty despite your shared history and her harsh words.
"So I'm just going to ask one more time, what happened to Ben?" You force your voice into a snarl, shaking off the guilt.
Because it was necessary. It wasn't just about you settling something from years ago, it was about Ben.
She deserves this, she isn't a good person.
"Go to hell." She spits at you.
You grab her by the front of her red suit and throw her away into the small kitchen. Countess' body crashes into the lopsided brown cabinets with a solid thwacking sound smashing through the flimsy structures. Blood drips down the side of her face from where she hit the cabinet corner, blending into her reddish hair. She rises from the ground with an angry snarl, clutching a dirty knife in her hand.
"I don't want to get tetanus from that. I can't remember when my last shot was-" You begin to say with a sigh.
She swipes the air in a vicious arc, but you grab her by the wrist, dodging the knife. "You never learn do you?"
The wrist twists to the side in your hand with a loud snapping sound followed by Countess' scream that reverberates in your skull as you break her other arm. "Pretty soon you're gonna be out of limbs, so I'd start talking."
Countess drops to her knees as the pain begins to seep into her body. "Fine. I'll tell you-"
"Then do it."
"He's not dead."
As the world stops spinning a high pitched ringing in your ears takes over, filling the monotonous drone of seconds ticking past. The past forty years no longer matter, the next hundred wouldn’t either, because Ben wasn't dead. As much as you hated him, the thought chilled you to your core, because then where the hell was he?
"Or at least he wasn't when they took him." She mutters, holding her arms to her chest.
"What did you do?" Your voice comes out in a whisper because you can hardly speak let alone comprehend what she's saying. "WHAT DID YOU DO?" You scream, grabbing her by the front of her suit.
"They wanted him." She spits.
"Who did?"
"The Russians. They wanted him and they took him!"
"You sold him out to the Russians?" You roar, hauling her up into the air so close you can smell what she ate for lunch. "Why? Did they pay you?"
"No. We all hated him!" She snarls. "But you were always around." Her mouth twitches into a painful smile. "It was so easy to get him to fuck me. I knew it would drive you away, you'd wanted him for so long and he didn't give a damn about you. And then you weren't there to protect him!" She laughs through the pain that builds in her chest.
I was right. She fucked him to make me angry, to get me to turn my back on him. I wasn't there to help him and they sold him out the first chance they got.
"He always wanted me more than you, knew that I could satisfy him better than you ever could. You really thought that he could love you? Ben doesn’t love anyone!” Her eyes glint with malice. “And you’re still the same pathetic little girl who begged Ben for his co-“
Her head tears from her shoulders in you hands cutting off her next words, the explosion of blood from her carotid artery spraying your face, and soaking into your ruined clothes. The ringing is back, filling the void of silence in the air that followed the tearing of bone and sinew.
You stand there for a minute holding it, not quite comprehending what you've just done. You hadn't lost control in a long time, not since you had the fight with Ben about Countess, or when you threw your sofa through one of the walls in your apartment and then broke every piece of glass, windows included, and had to move when you found out he was dead.
Or not dead. The thought chills you. Payback handed him over to the Russians, where he's been for the past 40 years? Why? Just because he was irrational, angry, and a dick? There's got to be more to it than that. Stan would have never allowed that. Soldier Boy was his golden boy, his meal ticket-
You think about the last forty years of hating Ben, cursing him, trying to forget him, wishing that you'd never loved him. The night you fought washes over you, bringing the anger, frustration, and heartbreak roaring back. The head in your hands smashes into mush as the memories barrage your mind, surging over the dam you built to keep them away.
You and Ben had always watched each other's backs. It was the promise you made to each other before all of this started, on the night he asked you to come with him and leave everything you knew behind. You knew him better than anyone else.
And yes maybe he fucked me once and I told him I loved him and he immediately went out and fucked Countess-
Your heart cracks in your chest with the thought, the heartbreak coming back in a wave of sadness that makes you shudder.
But you couldn't leave him, because you knew he would have never left you. Ben may have said that he didn't care about you, but you knew in your gut that Ben would have torn anyone apart who hurt you. He's always protected you. Even before you became supes together.
You stare back down at the mush coating your hands and the front of your clothes.
Why the fuck is everything so complicated?
********************************************************
When you get back to your apartment you're covered in a thin layer of soot, from blowing up the trailer, and a layer of blood and brain matter from removing and crushing her head. You hoped that by blowing up her home and burning her body with your newfound abilities that it would be enough to cover your tracks, but you were uneasy. The buzz of killing her and the shock of her revelation had worn off, but was now replaced with a numbness when you think about what could have happened to Ben, what could still be happening to him.
The shower does little to ease your mind and sleep evades you, despite the exhaustion that pulls at your limbs for using your powers. Dying usually meant that you needed to replenish that energy, but you couldn't muster the enthusiasm to do that. You just felt listless. The last forty years felt like a lie, felt like a waste, because as you’d been living your life Ben had been trapped in Russia.
So you open your laptop on the counter, wet hair soaking through your sleepshirt, and begin to research flights to Russia leaving within the next few days.
I have no idea where I'm going. I go to Russia and then what? Where in Russia? The Kremlin? Yeah let me just waltz right up to that.
You lean forward with your head in your hands thinking about Butcher. He came here because he wanted to know more about Ben. Maybe he knew where he was. He was the one who mentioned Russia.
You pull the card he left behind on your counter towards you, rubbing your thumb over the number. Legend said he kills supes. So is that what he wanted? To find Ben and kill him? The thought makes a chill travel down your spine, immediately followed by the primal urge to protect Ben. But what had Ben ever done to him?
You look at the number again.
If I call him, he's going to know that I was lying. Not that I'm scared of him.
You finally pick up your phone and dial the number, but it goes to voicemail.
"Hey this is Y/f/n Y/l/n. I just remembered a few things about Soldier Boy and thought you'd like to discuss them. Just give me a call-back whenever you get this."
You hang up the phone and sit there for a minute, eyeing the coffee that sits untouched next to your open laptop.
I killed someone today. The thought should be chilling, but you feel no remorse, no guilt.
Is that because I think she deserved it?
Your mind goes back to what she said about Ben sleeping with you, what he told her about you. The urge to cry rises in your chest with the memory of her words.
You remembered that night. You had been so excited. Ben had taken you out to dinner for your birthday, despite your insistence that you'd celebrated enough of those. The restaurant was quiet, secluded, different than the flashy world the both of you were living in.  It had reminded you of before you took the Compound V, when you were still normal. The food was good, there was flirting and hand holding at dinner, and finally a slow dance when he kissed you for the first time.
And when he took you back to your apartment and to bed, it didn’t seem like a quick fuck, it didn't feel like cheap sex. The way he took care of you, held your hand, said your name, looked at you, held you close to him after, and the soft smile on his face that he had only when it was the two of you- it felt special. He made it special for you because he knew how important it was for you.
Tears slip down your cheeks. It would have been one of your favorite memories if you didn't know what followed, what was going to happen the next morning or in the next 24 hours.
"Guess it was just a lie." You mutter to yourself, wiping the back of your hand across your eyes.
The next morning when you woke up in his arms you couldn't help but tell him that you loved him, whisper it to him, more happy than you'd ever been curled against his chest. You remembered the way he looked at you, like you were crazy and then he left for his movie premiere even though we were supposed to go together muttering flimsy excuses as to why he had to leave. And finally the image of him and Countess in the bathroom crashes over you, sending shards of glass back into your heart.
You thought that by now you'd picked them all out.
More tears drip down your cheeks, as your thoughts drift back to Ben and the years that followed that night. You sigh considering what to do.
I wish I could just forget, wish that I could leave him, but I can't.
But that didn’t mean you had to forgive him.
**********************************
After a night of no sleep, you stand poised over the wooden chest in the back of your closet. Packing for the flight that left in two days was turning into a bigger task than you'd thought.
Your current wardrobe wasn't suited for storm the capital city of Russia and kill everything in your path to find Ben, it was more suited for late night painting and art shows. The amount of paint stained overalls, oversized band t-shirts, sweatpants, and dresses in your closet was astounding and none of which screamed "fear me." You would definitely need to go to the mall to find more things that you could move in, if need be, and find things that hid your identity. All it took was one photo or video linked online and everyone would know that you weren’t dead.
You knew that no one would be willing to talk to you, give up the information willingly, not to mention if you really had to break into the Kremlin it was not going to be a walk in the park.
It wasn't that you were out of shape. You still trained during the week, took self-defense classes, and worked out to prevent yourself from going soft, but fighting Countess was the first time in forty years that you had faced another supe and you weren’t up to speed on the supes that the Russian government employed.
You also didn't like the idea that you were going in blind. There could be any number of men there, any kind of supes, and anything waiting for you.
But the truth was, deep down you didn't care. What the rest of Payback did had ignited something deep inside you. You knew that people were going to die if they stood in front of you, but the urge to protect Ben rose above all else. Because you still loved him, despite everything he said, despite everything he did, he was still Ben after all this time and you couldn't let him go that easily.
You hold up your supe suit in front of you. It was made specifically for you, designed of a breathable material that made movement easy, not to mention the hood and mask did a wonderful job of concealing who you were.
I really don't want to wear this again. You think to yourself, eyeing the smooth material. It wasn't that you hated your suit, it was what it represented. If you wore that again, you'd be Indigo and you'd spent the past forty years trying to put as much distance between you and your superhero career as possible. You would be recognized instantly.
Could I even squeeze into this thing again?
You look at yourself in the floor length mirror on the opposite side of your walk in closet. You looked the same as you always had. Countess’ jeer about you being big makes you flinch again, bringing another cloud of insecurity over your mind.
Maybe that’s why he never slept with me before that night. Maybe that’s why he ran to Countess.
The thought is immediately followed by the image of Missy Callahan at your 16th birthday and how Ben clung to her. Then followed by your mother’s constant attempts to hide your figure. And finally, followed by all the other women you had ever seen Ben with. None of the others had looked like you. You shake off the urge to cry and look back at the suit.
Maybe I can paint over the purple, make it only black? Would that really change it that much?
Suddenly your phone rings, shattering the still silence in your apartment. For a second you hope that it's Butcher returning your call, but when you lift the phone to your ear you realize that it's something much worse.
"Hello?"
"I need you." The familiar voice says.
Shit.

LAST CHRISTMAS ⸺ HUH YUNJIN X READER
warnings: ANGST. (are we even surprised?)
word count: 1.9k
synopsis: last christmas, she gave you her heart.
Tumblr media
when the air turned cold and the snow fell, huh yunjin remembered the day you broke her heart.
the snow crunched beneath her feet as she walked, footprints left behind with every step she took. winter was cruel, biting at her skin despite the layers of clothing she wore. the chill would hit her face, nipping at the rosy tint of her cheeks and leaving a burning feeling in its wake. her breath formed wispy clouds in the frigid air, dancing in the air before disappearing.
the world around her was adorned in a pristine white coat, the snow-covered landscape painting the perfect picture for december. the holidays were just around the corner, and the air was thick with anticipation for the holiday season with lights and trees decorated on every corner of the city. in america, she wouldn’t feel as lonely. but here in seoul, where couples were seen everywhere, her solitude felt magnified amidst the festive cheer.
the streets now seemed to mock her with their happiness. yunjin carried the weight of memories like a burden, her steps heavier with each passing moment. memories of your laughter intertwined with the wintry air haunted her. she could almost hear your voice carried by the chilly breeze, a reminder of the promises that had dissolved like snowflakes on her warm skin.
the snow continued to fall, delicate and ethereal, each one seemingly adding to the imaginary weight on her shoulders. the winter, once a season she adored, had turned into a relentless reminder of her heartache, and the person who caused it—you.
it was a stark contrast to the warmth and joy she once associated with this time of year.
she walked along the familiar path, the one she used to take with you, memories flooding back like an unwelcome guest crashing through the door. the storefronts adorned with festive decorations seemed to mock her with their joyous displays and festive ornaments.
as she trudged through the snow-covered streets, she couldn't help but recall the way your laughter used to fill the winter air, warming her soul even in the coldest of days.
“yunjin, stop it!” you laughed as she threw a snowball in your direction, watching the mound of white fall at your feet. you stood there, a smile illuminating your face, your eyes twinkling against the blanket that covered your surroundings.
with a mischievous glint in her eyes, yunjin playfully raised another snowball, ready to engage in the friendly battle that always brought warmth to the frosty air. the wintry scene around you transformed into a playful battleground, the two of you exchanging laughter amidst the snowy flurries.
in those moments, the chill in the air couldn't touch the warmth blossoming in her chest. the way you both reveled in each other's company made winter feel like a wonderland, and yunjin wished she could stay in this moment forever.
the playful banter continued, your laughter intermingling with hers, creating a melody that echoed through the serene landscape. the world seemed to slow down, frozen in time like a picturesque scene from a cherished memory.
but just as quickly as the laughter had filled the air, it vanished into the wintry abyss of the past. the memory dissipated, leaving her standing alone amidst the snow-covered streets, a bittersweet ache tugging at her heart.
she poked the inside of her cheek as she kept walking, doing her best to avoid bumping into couples holding hands and hugging along the sidewalk. the streets were adorned with couples, their warmth palpable as they shared tender moments that made yunjin want to vomit. doing her best to push you out of her thoughts, the american continued her solitary walk, her gaze fixed on the corridor decorated with greenery and festive lights.
her steps faltered for a moment as she passed by a nearby park, the flickering glow of a bonfire catching her attention. the barren trees and the ice skating rink set up in the middle of it felt like someone had struck an ice pick straight through her heart. yunjin's heart twisted and tugged as she was suddenly transported back in time, back to one of her favorite memories of you.
“yunny, stop!” you squeaked as the taller girl tried to let go of you, her laughter filling your ears as she gently pulled you closer. “baby, you won’t fall.” she said as gently as she could, trying to loosen your death grip on her bicep.
“look, there’s babies who are skating by themselves.” yunjin teased lightly as she pointed with her head towards the group of middle schoolers who were racing each other around the rink. the glow of the lights above you two casted shades of gold, green, and red across your faces.
you shot a quick glare at the girl, and out of pure muscle memory you let go of her bicep for a moment to shove her. however, you forgot that you were standing on ice with absolutely no ability to skate. your response was immediate, a swift glare followed by a playful shove—an instinctive reaction to her teasing.
however, in the split second of your playful retaliation, you forgot the ground beneath you was an unforgiving sheet of ice, devoid of any grip or stability.
with a gasp, you let go of the taller girl’s arm, reaching out in a futile attempt to steady yourself. but it was too late. your feet lost their delicate balance, slipping out from under you in a comical flurry of flailing arms and legs.
yunjin's eyes widened in surprise, her instinctive reaction to reach out and grab you halted by the sudden realization that she couldn't catch you in time. naturally, the american let out a laugh at the sight of you on your back, only to lose her own balance and land on top of you.
the two of you looked at each other and just burst out laughing, ignoring the cold of the ice and the bitter cold blowing in your faces. you rolled your eyes and giggled as you cupped the taller girl’s face. “that’s what you get for laughing at me.”
it had been a year since you walked away without a backward glance, leaving her to navigate the holiday season alone. yunjin shook her head as she quickly blinked back tears, snapping herself out of her thoughts as she fumbled with the buttons on her jacket. the blonde sniffled, whether from the cold or the sinking feeling in her heart.
the winter air clung to her skin like you used to. but both the weather and you now shared the same feeling now.
it was getting dark, and the american could feel her face going numb from the cold. it was christmas eve. she should be still at her friend’s place, drinking and being surrounded by her loved ones. yunjin wouldn’t admit it outloud, but all she could think about the entire time was you.
the last time she saw you was the night after chaewon’s christmas party last year. it was also the first time yunjin felt her heart being ripped out of her chest.
"i love you," she confessed, her heart laid bare as she gazed at you in the soft illumination of the porch light, your features partially hidden by the shadows cast from the faint glow.
for yunjin, it was a moment that held the weight of a thousand unspoken feelings, a culmination of emotions that she had kept tucked away, afraid of the vulnerability they exposed. her heart beat with a mixture of hope and trepidation, unsure of what your response might be.
in that fleeting moment, the world seemed to hold its breath, the cold air carrying the weight of her confession. she longed for reciprocation, for a glimmer of reassurance in your eyes, a sign that her love wasn't left unanswered in the wintry silence.
you had to feel the same way, right?
but as seconds ticked by, the silence stretched, heavy and filled with uncertainty. you remained shrouded in the shadows, your reaction slightly veiled by the darkness. the absence of a response pierced through yunjin's vulnerable confession, the ache in her chest deepening with each passing moment.
“yunjin,” you whispered, your breath dancing in the air as you watched the taller girl in the soft light. you had previously told the other girl the night before that you liked her back. but this felt different now. it was too much, too soon.
“i can’t do this. i’m sorry.”
with a heavy heart, yunjin swallowed the lump forming in her throat, the frigid air biting at her skin as tears welled in her eyes. yunjin's heart shattered at the sound of those words, the hope that had flickered within her chest extinguished by your gentle yet devastating rejection.
the wintry night bearing witness to the unraveling of emotions between the two of you. it felt like a cruel twist of fate, the contrast between the warmth of her confession and the coldness of your rejection leaving yunjin feeling exposed and vulnerable in the icy darkness.
the ache in her chest grew heavier, a constricting knot of pain that seemed impossible to bear. her heart, once brimming with love and hope, now felt hollow, drained by the weight of unreciprocated feelings.
yunjin's lips quivered, forming words she couldn't voice, her throat constricted by the weight of unspoken emotions. the bitter taste of regret lingered in the wintry air as she held back the tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
with a broken heart and shattered spirit, huh yunjin offered a feeble nod, her voice caught in a strangled whisper as she forced the rest of the air in her lungs out to form a response, "i understand."
as she stood there and watched you walk down the steps, enveloped by the wintry silence and gripping the perfectly wrapped christmas gift she had picked out for you. it was a silver necklace she had saved up for a few weeks for. she picked it out because it reminded her of you in every way.
but the christmas that should have been filled with warmth and love turned into a solitary ache in the midst of the darkness of december. yunjin dreamed of the perfect holiday with you, how she would kiss you in the fresh snow on christmas day. the tears on her face reminded her that reality was far from the dreams she had.
the salt water on her cheeks snapped her back to reality. december’s cruel chill of twilight reminded her that she was standing here in the cold and alone, tears on her cheeks and her nose running. the distant sound of christmas music playing from a nearby building added the only ambience to the otherwise silent evening. it was just another cruel reminder for the american.
she would forever remember this christmas the same way she remembered the last.
heartbroken, alone, and feeling colder than she did the night you left.
a/n: this entire month will be filled with angst from me idc 💅🏻

Flufftober Day 14: Leaves
Jasper Hale x reader
Word Count: 0.5k
AN: this one is short and sweet. Please reblog if you enjoyed reading it.
Tumblr media
divider credit @royallaesthetics
There was something so human about the fall season. The falling of leaves and the sudden coldness that permeates the air. It all reminded Jasper a bit too much about being mortal. Of course, he hadn’t been mortal in at least a century, but you were. You were mortal right now, he could lose you at any moment. You could wither and fall, just like the leaves on the ground.
That is why Jasper was in a bad mood. But he was trying his best to latch onto your feeling of joy. You were positively radiant with joy while taking a stroll with Jasper on the way home from school. The day was overcast, as it commonly was in Forks but the lack of sunshine never seemed to bother you.
Jasper admired your ability to find happiness in the small things. For how long he’s lived, the monotony of every day seemed to make the fleeting moments blur together. He had gone decade with the days and nights melding into one. It wasn’t until he had met you that he seemed to wake up from his stupor. It was still difficult for him to understand how stepping on leaves brought you so much joy, but he would watch you and bask in the warmth that your joy emanated.
“Why do you enjoy this so much Darlin’?” He had asked.
“Dunno Japser, I like the noise, I guess.”
“Is that why you step on all of them?” He didn’t see the appeal, and if he was completely honest the noise kind of grated on him.
“I guess. Why? Does it bother you, ‘cause I can stop.” You offered beginning to look up and walk normally.
“No, you don’t need to stop Love, I’m just curious I guess.”
“Curious about what?”
“Why do you get so happy while doing such pointless things? I like that you have things that make you happy, but I don’t see how crunching dead leaves get you so overjoyed.
“Oh Jasper,” You smiled moving to wrap your arm through his “I’m not overjoyed because of the leaves, I’m happy because I’m spending time with you.”
If his heart was still beating he's sure that it would send blood to his cheeks at your remark.
“You make happy Jasper, more happy than I’ve been in a long time. I could be filing taxes and as long as I was with you I’d enjoy it.” Your words settle into his mind like syrup. Slowly covering his thoughts with you and his love for you.
Maybe that is why he liked being around you. Even in the moments that he struggles with his hunger, just being near you puts him at ease. He feels like he can breathe with you, even though he doesn’t need to. At first, his fear of putting you in danger far outweighed any desire to be near you. But when he realized that being near you was the only way to keep you safe, he became almost impossible to get away from, though you never wanted to get away from him anyway.
“You make me happy too Darlin’.” He pulled your arm out of his and moved it letting it hang in between the two of you. He laced your fingers together and continued your walk. Smiling when you started stepping on leaves again.

Hogwarts always had a special charm to it when the chilly seasons came. The castle was already decorated with pumpkins and the air had never felt better, oh, and the leaves. The crunch as you step on them, how beautiful they look on or off the trees. Autumn in Hogwarts was definitely something worth experiencing.
Which is how you were able to trick Draco into a small game of hide and seek with you after some drinks in The Three Broomsticks. "I know you're here somewhere, darling. The leaves aren't really your best friend today." He calls out in a teasing manner while you were trying your hardest to not step on said leaves, no matter how crunchy they seemed.
The closer he got, the more you started to rethink your hiding spot. There weren't many places to hide in the forbidden forest besides trees, trees, and more trees— and as tempting as hiding in the leaves would be, that would be too much work— so you had to act fast and quick.
You quickly found a clear path but Draco was always close behind, staying still and silent to find you quicker. As you continued to run, you were definitely running out of breath, so as soon as you found a big enough tree to hide behind, you sat there and scanned your eyes all over the forest. Shades of orange and red fill your vision.
He felt close by as if he was right behind you. You weren't too tense since besides harmless creatures frolicking around, it was just the both of you, but you still had to keep your guard up. Something did catch your eye though: a leaf in the shape of a heart. Some parts of it were bent, but it also seemed natural.
A smile grew on your face as you continued to look at it, carefully pocketing it with the worry of getting it crushed. What you didn't realize, was that Draco—
"Boo!" He quickly taps your shoulders and yells, laughing as you flinch and slap his arm instinctively. "Draco!" Your breath was heavy, but you couldn't help but let out a laugh as well. He crouches beside you, your back pressed up against the tree and your legs curled up to your chest.
He had a soft smile on his face, perfect gray-blue eyes, and beautiful, kissable lips. He was perfect in your eyes, you were perfect in his. He leans in and gives your lips a soft peck before taking your hands in his.
"Your hands are freezing, love. I told you, you should've worn your gloves." He frowns, slipping off his own. "It's fine, I promise. I don't need yours, don't worry." She takes his hands to stop him, but he gently nudges them away, slipping one of his gloves on your hand.
"If you won't take both, at least take one. Mother made them..." He smiles, admiring the black gloves with the signature 'M' embroidered on the top with silver.
You look at the glove with a smile, it didn't fit properly, but it felt like it did too. Your eyes meet his and you let out a soft giggle as you noticed his face, his nose was pink, as well as his cheeks. You gave a soft kiss on all three spots, his cheeks seemingly getting more pink.
"The autumn chill hasn't been too kind to you now, hasn't it?" You tilt your head to the side a little to admire his face a little more, a small smile on your face. He chuckles and shakes his head, his blonde hair moving along.
"Maybe, maybe not. How about we warm up in the castle? The others are probably there as well anyways." He stands up and offers a hand to you, taking it graciously. "Sure. Oh, I wanna show you something I found!" You say as your smile grows wide, pulling out the leaf you found.
"Isn't it beautiful?" There was a sparkle in your eye, he loved that about you. He nods and smiles wide, wrapping an arm around you as if to warm you up from the cold weather. "Mhm, just like you." He kisses your head as both of you walk back to the warmth of the castle.

Tarot Cards: Judgement, The Chariot, 10 of Swords, 7 of Wands, The Fool.
Hey there, my enticing Pile 1's. As the leaves turn golden and the air grows cooler, let’s delve into the sultry secrets that the Universe has teased for your romantic rendezvous this season. Hold onto your scarves, for this journey promises to be as unpredictable and tantalizing as the autumn winds.
First up, we're greeted by the alluring Judgement card. As we sip on our pumpkin-spiced lattes, this card whispers of profound awakenings and rebirth. There's an intense transformation awaiting you, my darlings. Perhaps you've been feeling the weight of past entanglements? The Universe nudges you to release them, inviting a love that resonates with the deeper, more evolved you.
Driving into our spread next is The Chariot. Ooh, the exhilarating energy! This card sizzles with determination, control, and rapid movement. If there were ever a time to be proactive about love, it's now. Your next partner might just be the kind to sweep you off your feet on a whirlwind fall adventure, their confidence as magnetic as the dance of falling leaves.
However, a twist awaits with the 10 of Swords. Fear not, for this card, though intense, hints at dramatic endings only to make way for fresher, more passionate beginnings. Any lingering pain or doubt from past heartbreaks? It's time to let them fall away, like the old leaves shedding, making way for vibrant new colors.
Standing tall in our spread is the 7 of Wands—a card of determination, defense, and standing one's ground. Your approaching lover might be someone unafraid to fight for love, to challenge and be challenged, to ignite that fire in you that burns brighter against the odds. The playfulness comes alive with The Fool, teasing us to be adventurous and to expect the unexpected. With fresh eyes and a daring spirit, this love will feel like the first crunch of fall leaves beneath your feet—exciting, refreshing, and filled with endless possibilities.

Tarot Cards: Knight of Swords, 4 of Pentacles, 7 of Cups, 3 of Swords, 9 of Cups, 10 of Cups
Warm greetings to you, my irresistible Pile 2's. As the world transforms with hues of amber and burgundy, let's embark on an intimate journey with the tarot cards, unveiling the mysteries of your next romantic encounter. The crisp scent of fall promises secrets, and I'm here to help you unravel them.
Charging forth is the Knight of Swords, embodying the electrifying energy of autumn winds. This card speaks of a partner who's bold, assertive, and invigoratingly refreshing. Their words might carry the weight of intense passion and unwavering certainty. They're someone who knows what they want and isn't afraid to chase after it—especially if that desire is you.
Yet, in the shadow of such ardor, the 4 of Pentacles gently reminds us of the value of vulnerability. While security is comforting, holding onto walls or past fears too tightly might hinder the depth of connection you both could explore. This upcoming romantic intrigue might challenge you to open up, to let the golden leaves of trust fall freely.
But ah, the dreamy 7 of Cups enters the scene, with its intoxicating allure of choices, fantasies, and daydreams. It teases us with the possibilities—the various faces love might wear, the whispers in the dark, the stolen glances across candlelit rooms. Yet, amidst these dreams, the sharp sting of the 3 of Swords can't be ignored. It's the gentle nudge from the Universe, asking us to heal from past wounds, to acknowledge the pain but not let it define our future passions.
As we near the finale, the heartwarming embrace of the 9 of Cups emerges, hinting at contentment, fulfillment, and wishes coming true. Your forthcoming romance promises moments of pure joy, of laughter shared over warm drinks and cozy nights in. And beautifully culminating our journey is the 10 of Cups, the very epitome of emotional bliss, love, and family. This card paints a picture of a love that isn't just passionate but deeply harmonious, echoing the heart's deepest desires.
In the heartwarming embrace of fall, my dearest Pile 2's, your cards foretell a love story brimming with passion, choices, healing, and ultimately, profound emotional fulfillment. As you step into this season, let the winds of change guide your heart, urging you to be brave, to dream, to heal, and to anticipate the love that's destined to be yours. The Universe whispers that love, as rich and warm as a fall sunset, awaits you. Embrace it with all its hues and mysteries.

Tarot Cards: Queen of Cups, 9 of Pentacles, The Star, The Empress, King of Pentacles
Greetings, my sultry Pile 3's. As the world dons its mesmerizing autumnal tapestry, let's dive deep into the depths of these cards, where secrets of your upcoming romantic interlude are nestled like hidden gems among fallen leaves. The tantalizing chill in the air tells tales of passion and connection—let's unveil them together.
Gracing our spread first is the ethereal Queen of Cups—a beacon of emotional depth, intuition, and compassionate allure. This card hints at a lover who possesses an innate ability to tap into the deepest corners of your soul. With just one glance, they'll see the swirling emotions beneath your surface, and with a soft touch, they'll make waves ripple through your heart.
Then, in steps the elegant 9 of Pentacles, cloaked in the luxurious energy of independence and self-assured grace. This suggests that your upcoming partner appreciates the finer things in life—both in material wealth and in the depth of connection. They're someone who has cultivated their own garden of success and now seeks someone with whom they can share the fragrant blossoms.
As we proceed, the shimmering Star casts its radiant glow, signifying hope, healing, and a serendipitous connection. It's as if the universe is aligning every constellation, guiding you toward a love that heals, rejuvenates, and inspires. Your romantic journey promises to be one that feels fated, written in the stars long before your paths ever cross.
The enchanting Empress sweeps in with her nurturing embrace, symbolizing fertility, abundance, and the very essence of love. This potent energy suggests your forthcoming romantic relationship will be deeply nurturing, filled with tender moments and an almost maternal warmth. It's a bond that will encourage growth, mutual respect, and boundless affection. Complementing this energy, the steadfast King of Pentacles arrives, grounding our reading with his aura of stability, reliability, and a touch of earthly sensuality. Together, they paint a relationship that's both passionate and dependable, rich in emotional depth and worldly comforts.
In the embrace of the fall season, my alluring Pile 3's, your cards whisper of a romantic dance that's as profound as it is grounded. It speaks of lovers who understand the depth of emotions, appreciate the beauty in the mundane, and find magic in the simplest gestures. As you drift through autumn, know that a love as rich as the season's colors and as comforting as a warm blanket on a chilly evening is beckoning. This relationship promises to be a harmonious blend of emotional depth, worldly comfort, and divine destiny. Let the leaves guide your path and the stars light your way, for an enchanting love story awaits.

The Fall season is a time of pure contentment and happiness for you. It’s your favorite season and time of the year and you wait for what seems like decades for it to come around. I mean, how would you not love the season? The breathtaking sight of the bright oranges and yellows filling the once dull green leaves as they cling to thin branches and the sight of all of them finally falling to the ground and covering the land with vibrant colors was a sight you could look at all day.
The crunching of the leaves that lay underneath your feet brought you pure joy and you often walked outside for hours just to hear the satisfying crunch with every step you take.
God and the weather. The slight chilly yet warm weather that is brought will fall is what makes you the happiest. You're finally allowed to wear those sweaters you’ve had stashed in your closet and simply bundle yourself in warm clothes during this time of the year.
Despite the fall being your safe haven, your mind didn’t allow you to be happy during this tranquil time of the year. Your anxiety had been at an all-time high all week and this morning seemed to make it worsen even more. Every little thing either caused you to have a small freak out or just get overwhelmed and break down as a whole. For instance, your neighbors, who have just recently moved in, have been moving all of their belongings into their house since early this morning.
They weren't trying to be quiet about their actions whatsoever and the loud clattering of boxes and obnoxious beeping from moving trucks ran through your ears for at least two hours. Now, you are quite sensitive to sound so to say that this made you quite overwhelmed very quickly was quite an understatement.
When you finally reached your breaking point, you sent a quick text to Nick telling him that you were coming over to his place. God knew that you were in desperate need of your boyfriend’s comfort right now.
When you saw that your text went through, you wasted no time in throwing on a random sweater and slipping your sneakers on. Before you left, you grabbed your headphones and set them over your ears in hopes of blocking the obnoxious sounds from outside. When you got yourself together, you finally left.
That brings us to now.
You and Nick are currently hanging out in his bedroom. Nick’s room has to be second on your list of top ten things that bring you comfort. I mean from the soft LED lights, the stuffed animals lining up against the pillows resting against the headboard, the faint scent of pumpkin radiating through the air and filling your senses, everything in the room eased your mind very quickly.
Best of all, this room was Nick’s home, and the two of you stayed cooped up in his room for most of the time you two hung out. The boy knew how much you loved this small space of his so he always dragged you to his room when you came over.
Nick’s bedroom was filled with comfortable silence as the male pressed you tightly against his chest.  You allowed yourself to fully relax against your boyfriend as you tucked yourself in the crook of Nick’s neck, your eyes closed shut and your senses filled with his calming cologne and the slight hint of the pumpkin candle on his nightstand every time you inhaled.
“Babe?” Nick calls, his soft voice ripping through the silence filling the room. You lowly hum a reply after a few seconds, your body not moving an inch as you feel tiredness take over. “I forgot to tell you earlier but I need to film with Matt and Chris today.”
You groggily open your eyes after a moment and shift a little in Nick’s lap to gaze up at him. “Like right now?” You ask, your words slurring together as you blink heavily.
“Here in a few minutes, yeah. I can take you with us if you’d like. You don’t have to be seen on camera of course but you can still join us.”
“Where are you guys going?”
“A haunted house. The fans have been wanting us to go to one since the Sam and Colby collab got uploaded.”
Ah yes, haunted houses. How could you forget that fall also welcomed the universally loved holiday, Halloween? You weren’t fond of haunted houses or anything that could frighten you because you just couldn’t handle being scared. When you were faced with something that frightened you, you immediately had a meltdown or a panic attack that lasted for quite some time.
Due to this intense fear of yours, you also heavily disliked Halloween. You often hid yourself in your house when the holiday came around the corner to prevent yourself from facing the terrors that came with the holiday. The idea that people enjoy scaring others just for laughs was completely mind-boggling to you.
God, why would your favorite time of the year also hold your most hated holiday? It’s like the universe didn’t want you to be happy.
When you heard the words ‘haunted house’ escape Nick's lips, you immediately tensed up. Now, Nick knew you quite well but you did keep some things from him. It’s not like you’re keeping secrets from the boy but it was rather that you didn’t want him to view you as a male that was childish and couldn’t take on certain things because of your fears and whatnot.
If you couldn’t tell, you have yet to bring up your fears of haunted houses and anything scary to Nick yet. You were plenty aware of the fact that the boy adored Halloween and you didn’t want to hold him back from having fun on his favorite holiday just because you didn’t like the terrors that came with it.
“A haunted house?” You ask, your voice slightly wavering. You can’t help but swallow dryly as you lock eyes with Nick.
“Yeah, a haunted house.” The redhead confirms with a small head nod. “I’ve been wanting to go to one for a while but have opted not to since I’m a pussy but fans have been wanting us to go to one for quite some time. And since Halloween is coming around, I think it’d be the perfect opportunity for us to go and film our experience at a haunted house.”
You hesitantly hum and slowly nod your head, your gaze shifting to your gray sweatpants. As silence fills the room, Nick’s eyebrows furrow together in worry as he gazes down at you. As the male gently grabs your face and tilts your head up to meet your eyes he says, “Hey, you alright? You got quiet.”
“Yeah I'm fine, don’t worry.” You reply, a little too quickly for Nick’s liking. You slowly take a deep inhale through your nose in hopes of clearing your head before you add to your previous statement, “I’ll go with you guys.”
Nick’s eyes lighten up the moment that statement leaves your lips. He lands a long and lingering kiss on your temple before saying, “Yay! I’ll text Matt and tell him you're coming with us.”
You softly nod your head and go back to leaning against Nick’s chest as he hurriedly takes his phone out of his pocket. As the male busies himself with his cell for a few minutes, you shakily exhale and force your lips together.
Wasn’t this going to be delightful.
_______
After quite a while of persuading, pushing, and pulling, you finally stood in front of a large broken-down haunted house. The whole demeanor of the building terrified you. From the dark and rusted wood, the broken windows that seem to be handing onto their hinges for dear life, and the graveyard -which you’re hoping is fake- in the front yard, the house that loomed over you caused a cold shiver to run down your spine.
Now, the boys decided that they would go out a little early just before the sunset, so they wouldn't have to go home late. Despite the sun still being out for the most part, the way it peeked out from behind the top roof and cast dark shadows over every nick and cranny of the front half of the building added to your anxiousness.
As you stand at the steps leading up to the front door, your senses begin to crawl up to their all-time high. You hear every single crow in the trees nearby, the small, pebble-like rocks rolling around the road every time a car passes, and the leaves brushing against each other as the wind harshly blows. Your immediate thought was ‘What the hell did I just agree to?’ as you continued to have a stare-down with the house.
The moment you open your mouth to call your boyfriend, a sudden hand being set on your shoulder causes you to harshly flinch and let out a small shout. You quickly turn on your heels and stare wide-eyed at Chris who’s directly behind you, a look of guilt and worry filling his eyes as he takes in your frightened and tense state.
“Sorry for scaring you, I really didn’t mean to.” Chris apologizes, “You doing okay? You don’t look so good…”
“I’m fine.” You blurt out, a forced smile appearing on your lips. As Chris goes to comment on your behavior, the loud sound of crunching leaves rings through your ears like nails on a chalkboard. This sound was usually one of your favorites but at times like these, you simply couldn’t handle it. In response to the sound, both your hands quickly raise and cup over your ears in hopes of blocking or muffling the sound.
“Are you guys ready to head in?” Matt's voice rings through your ears as he makes an appearance next to Chris, a wide smile clear on his lips.
“Hell yeah, let’s get this shit done,” Chris replies, the sound of his hands loudly clasping together as he claps causing you to flinch and take a step back. Apparently, you take a few too many steps back and bump into something behind you. Frightened, you quickly turn around to look back at what you bumped into. A heavy exhale escapes your lips however when your gaze lands on your boyfriend who’s gazing down at you, a worried expression clear on his face.
“Are you alright?” Nick asks, his voice low, as to make sure he wouldn’t gain the attention of his two brothers standing a few steps in front of him.
“Yeah, I'm fine.” You reply, your tone coming off a little harsher than intended. If there was one thing you didn’t like, it was people asking if you were okay. Even if they had good intentions, you simply didn’t like people being so upfront with you.
Nick, noticing your sudden change in your demeanor simply by your tone, immediately drops the conversation, knowing better to not press you with more questions. He takes a moment to scan you and take in your body language before he wordlessly wraps his arms around your biceps and brings you against him for a warm embrace. You immediately find yourself melting in the male’s arms, your eyes closing as you take in your boyfriend’s warmth.
“You’re so fucking warm.” You breathe out.
“And you’re pretty cold.” Nick chuckles, his head dipping down so he can land a quick peck on your cheek. He doesn’t pull his face away when he’s done and when he begins to nestle his nose against the side of your face and down your jawline, a flurry of soft laughter bubbles up your throat.
“Nick!” You exclaim, your eyes wrinkling due to how hard you're smiling. “The hell are you doing?”
“I love your stubble,” Nick mumbles in response, his minty breath fanning your face and neck. “I’m not the type of guy to be controlling or some shit but please don’t shave. I mean that in the least controlling way possible, I promise.”
“Okay, okay, I won't! Now cut it out, it feels weird!” Nick hums against your skin and peppers your face in light kisses for a few moments, drawing even more soft laughter from you.
Your small moment gets cut off when Matt’s voice comes up from behind you, “Alright you two, let’s go now. You can do this later.”
Nick immediately stops what he’s doing and lifts his head to lock eyes with Matt who’s already looking at him. He narrows his eyes at the boy and lands one more peck on your lips before he reluctantly pulls out of the hug.
“C'mon, Matt’s being grumpy and tough again,” Nick grumbles as he takes his hand in yours and drags you towards the haunted house.
“I’m not being fucking tough or grumpy!” Matt retaliates with a huff, the hand that’s holding the vlog camera rising in the air.
“It’s your tone, Matthew!” Nick remarks, “I suggest you fix it before I tip the scare actors extra to be ruthless with you.”
You hear Matt mumble something under his breath behind you as you walk closer to the front door of the house. When you approach the door, fear immediately floods your veins when you see white and red lights flashing inside and reflecting against the rusted window in the center of the door. You completely forgot what you were signed up for and where you were when you were wrapped in Nick’s arms, however, the moment you stood face to face with the haunted house, everything came crashing down onto you like a tidal wave.
God do you have so many regrets right now.
“Chris, do you mind recording on your phone? I want to get as many angles as possible for the video.” Nick asks, his head turning so he can momentarily lock eyes with the younger male who’s standing behind him.
“Yeah, I don't mind,” Chris replies, quickly fishing his phone out of the pocket of his camo cargos and opening his camera. After ensuring that everyone, except you, has a device open and recording, Nick finally opens the front door with a loud creak. Immediately, the four of you are greeted with a large, trashed, and dark entrance.
“Fucking hell…” You mumble under your breath, being careful not to get your voice to pick up on any of the recordings. To say you weren’t ready for this experience was quite an understatement. It took Nick a rather good tug for you to be pulled into the dark house. As your eyes struggled to adjust to the darkness around you, you desperately clung onto Nick’s bicep, your nails digging into the soft clothing of his sweater.
The redhead didn’t mind your action whatsoever and let you be as he focused his attention on ensuring that Matt and Chris made it inside. Once he can briefly make out their silhouettes behind him, he decides to slowly walk deeper inside the house. As the four of you slowly walked, the sound of crunching papers and clattering glass sounded through your ears. None of the scare actors have come out yet, which you were very grateful for, however, the eerie and loud classical music that played was freaking you out enough.
You were innerly thanking whoever decided on the lighting for the candles that were placed against the walls and on some fixtures you guys passed, even though they flickered a lot and made your anxiety spike even more. As Nick proceeds to talk to the cameras and guide the four of you deeper and deeper inside the creaky, old house, you begin to grow more paranoid.
You felt as though your head was spinning and the fact that you couldn’t see what was in front of you was making everything worse. Your mind eventually started to make forms and faces in the dark, presumably to scare you, and it was working. Your heart was beating out of your chest and your palms began to grow sweaty as all the small notices ran through your ears and heightened your senses.
You knew you weren’t going to make it very long. You were terrified. The scare actors haven’t even made an appearance yet and-
A sudden blood-curdling, high-pitched scream rings through your ears, followed by a woman jumping out from behind a cupboard. A scream rips through your throat and your fight or flight instincts immediately kick in.
You chose flight.
You quickly bolt in the opposite direction of where the lady is standing in front of you. You could faintly make out someone calling after you but your main thought was that you needed out and you needed out right now.
You clumsily ran down the dark halls, your body continuously colliding with numerous pieces of furniture. That was sure to leave a few marks but you paid no attention to the pain that coursed through your veins with every collision you experienced.
Where the hell is the exit?!
As you sharply turn a corner, you’re immediately met with another actor screaming directly into your face. Another scream rips out of you and you immediately begin to scramble backwards. However, to your dismay, you slip on the rug beneath you and land straight on your ass. At this point, tears are profusely streaming out of your eyes. As you begin to sob your heart out and back up on your hands, your breath gets caught in your throat and it’s suddenly a lot harder to take in breaths of air.
Fucking hell.
When your back finally collides with a wall, you allow your legs to curl up to your chest. As you desperately claw at your chest and continue to sob loudly, you shout for the person you need the most. “Nick!” You sob out, your voice coming out hoarse and rough. At this point, your entire body is shaking and you're struggling to take in breaths of air. You would usually know how to ground yourself during panic attacks but it seems impossible right now considering your current environment.
When you feel someone grab your shoulders, you let out a strangled scream and begin to scurry off again. However, when you manage to pick up Nick’s voice, you stop trying to run off.
“y/n, it’s just me! it’s just me I promise. I got you, I'm right here, baby.” Nick exclaims, his strong grip on your shoulders loosening so as not to frighten you more.
“Nick-“ You choke out, “I can’t-“
“It’s okay, you’re okay. Nick’s right here, okay? Let’s get you out of here, come on.” Nick quickly hooks his arms under your legs and behind your back before picking you up off the floor. As you desperately cling onto the male like your life depends on it, the male sprints off towards the front door of the house. It only took a few minutes for Nick to find the door and the moment he opened it, the wind greets you by slapping you directly in the face.
You don’t have time to adjust your eyes to the moonlight shining directly in front of you before Nick rushes to the front lawn and crouches down. The boy wasted no time in forcing your body around so you were facing him and cupping your face in his hands.
“y/n I need you to breathe for me, okay? I’m going to help guide you through it but I need you to at least try for me, alright? Do you think you can do that for me, hun?” Nick asks, his thumbs getting to work on wiping the never-ending stream of tears seeping from your eyes. After your mind registers the male’s statement, you slowly nod your head. “Okay, feel my heartbeat. Feel how my chest rises and focus on it, you hear?”
You nod your head again and the next thing you know, Nick takes both of your hands and sets them on his chest. It takes a moment for your fingers to pick up on the subtle thumping of your redhead’s heartbeat but when they do, you feel yourself feel a little more at ease. As you focus all of your attention on the steady rise and fall of Nick’s chest, you attempt to follow through with his breathing exercises.
“In through your nose, out through your mouth. Deep breaths for me.”
In.
And out.
After you manage to finally take some air back into your lungs without it taking all of your energy, you feel your mind clear up a bit. “Good, you’re doing amazing, baby,” Nick whispers, planting a quick kiss on your nose. “Now shut your eyes and think of my room. You remember all the scents there, yes? Picture yourself sitting in my room and picking out all the smells.”
You simply hum in response, too tired to verbally respond, before you shut your eyes. As you picture yourself sitting on Nick’s bed, in the safe tranquility of his room, you allow yourself to remember all of the familiar scents that flood your scenes there. Nick’s pumpkin-flavored candles, his vanilla cologne, the smell of freshly washed bed sheets and clothes, the faint smell of mint from the lip balm nearby on the duvet.
It’s home.
As a heavy exhale leaves your lips, your eyes slowly open. You allow your senses to take in everything around you, from the grass poking into your clothes, the wind whipping through your hair, and the moonlight shining on your irises.
You were finally at peace.
“Hey,” Nick calls, his hands making their way up to both sides of your face. “Are you okay?”
“I am now, thank you.” You reply through a heavy exhale. As you send Nick a small smile, the male sighs and brings you to his chest, both of his arms wrapping around your shoulders tightly.
“I’m not going to pry and you can tell me when you want but, what happened back there? We were all screaming when the scare actor came out and the next thing I knew you're gone. You fucking scared me so bad.” You force your lips together into a straight line as Nick buries his face in your hair, the faint smell of your shampoo mixed with the lingering scent of your cologne immediately filling his senses.
You immediately felt your heart twist in regret at Nick’s words. Part of you deeply regretted running off with no warning while another part of you was telling you that you did the right thing. However, you were also aware of how badly you must’ve frightened the triplets. You know how Nick felt, due to him just telling you, but what about Matt and Chris?
You didn’t want to keep either of the boys in the dark, especially after what just happened. They deserved to know why you acted how you did.  They deserved some sort of explanation.
“Umm..” You start, your voice barely coming out above a whisper. You feel Nick shift underneath you, probably so that he can get a better look at you. “Can you tell Matt and Chris about this later? Like, fill them in? I would tell them but I feel.. embarrassed.”
A few beats of silence pass by before Nick replies, “Yeah, of course.” As you try to gather the words to explain what happened, Nick intently looks down at you. He unwraps one arm from around your shoulder to gently cup the side of your face, his thumb immediately beginning to caress the stubble on your jawline. You immediately feel at ease from the delicate touch, your mind momentarily going blank as you lean into Nick’s palm.
“Well for starters, I get scared easily and just can’t handle anything scary n shit like that. I know that seems very pussy of me, but it just really freaks me out and causes a meltdown or like you saw earlier a panic attack.” You begin, your words coming out every so slowly as you refrain from making eye contact with the male above you, “I’m not the biggest fan of Halloween since the holiday is all about scaring people but I didn't want to tell you because I know you love the holiday and look forward to it every year. When you mentioned the haunted house idea, I originally didn’t want to go but I couldn't say no to you. I wanted to back out the second we got here but I didn’t want to seem like a baby in front of you guys so I just kept my mouth shut.”
When you finish your quick explanation and silence fills the air, you begin to panic. Your mind immediately starts flooding with negative thoughts that are laced with regret and embarrassment and before you allow yourself to get lost in them, Nick’s voice silences all of them. “Babe, just because you have fears doesn’t mean you’re a pussy or a baby. Everyone has their fears, some have it worse than others, but that’s just how it is. I wish you told me about your strong dislike for this stuff but I completely understand why you didn’t want to tell me. I’ll make sure nothing frightening steps in your path okay? I’ll make sure you're safe and away from all that shit. Thank you for telling me, baby. I really appreciate it.”
As Nick tilts your head up and brings you in for a kiss, you can’t help but smile widely against his lips. When he pulls away, your smile doesn’t falter and you opt to hide your slightly flushed face in your boyfriend’s chest. Nick can’t help but chuckle softly at the sight of your flusteredness, a cheesy smile growing on his lips as he dips down and lands more gentle pecks on the crown of your head.
“I love you.” You mumble, your voice muffled due to the redhead’s sweater being against your mouth.
“I love you more baby,” Nick says with a smile. “Do you want to get in the car? I feel like the grass and leaves aren’t the most comfortable things to sit on.”
“Yes, please.”
“Alright then, let’s go.” With a soft tap on your hip, you get up from Nick’s lap and stand to your feet. As you stretch out your sore limbs and take in the fresh night air, Nick stands up with a soft grunt. “Come on.” The male gently takes your hand in his and guides you toward the van. The moment he opens up the passenger door, Matt and Chris quickly whip their heads around to look over at the two of you, their once worried expressions falling and exchanging with one of relief.
“You okay, kid?” Matt asks.
“Yup.” You reply simply. As you crawl into the backseat and sit down, your gaze immediately shifts up to the two brothers looking back at you. Feeling a little intimidated by their strong stares, you quickly look over to your right to watch Nick settle himself in the seat next to you. After shutting the door with a soft thud, he looks over at you, an immediate smile overtaking his lips as he locks eyes with you. When he gives you a small wink, you bite back a giggle and quickly look away to hide the heat rushing up your face.
“Can we get McDonald’s, please? I’m hungry.” Nick asks, one of his arms rushing to grab his seatbelt and pull it over his front half.
“Yeah, sure. You guys wanna go home after that or…” Matt replies, his voice trailing off as he begins to check all of his mirrors.
“We can go home,” Chris says as he reaches for the aux cord. As the brunette connects his phone and begins searching for music to play, Matt backs out of the driveway and drives off. As Highs and Lows by Lil Skies fills your ears, you find yourself leaning against Nick’s shoulder. The latter responds to your affection by wrapping an arm around your shoulder and pulling you even closer to him. As you shut your eyes and get comfortable with your boyfriend, your mind runs free from all the negative and anxious thoughts you’ve had all day. You were finally at peace with your mind and fully allowed yourself to be absorbed in Nick’s presence for the remainder of the night.
God, do you love this boy so much.

October || The Judgement Day x Reader
Summary: Your partners bring you to an apple orchard during your absolute favourite time of year. They adore seeing you in your element like this.
Tumblr media
The crisp October morning was bathed in the warm, golden light of the sun, casting long shadows across the apple orchard. It was finally fall for real, and you couldn't have been happier. This season was your absolute favorite, and the thought of spending the day at the orchard with your partners filled your heart with joy.
Bundled up in a thick jacket and a soft, oversized scarf, you looked like the very essence of autumn itself. Your gloved hands grasped a woven basket, ready to be filled with the season's bountiful harvest. With each step you took, the fallen leaves crunched beneath your boots, creating a symphony of autumn sounds that danced through the air.
Your partners, Dominik, Rhea, Finn, and Damian, followed closely behind, their gazes focused on you. They had never seen you quite like this, so radiant and full of life. It was as if the very essence of fall had awakened a unique spark within you, one that set your spirit ablaze.
You darted between the rows of apple trees, your eyes scanning for the ripest, juiciest fruit. Every so often, you'd reach up with gloved hands to pluck a perfect apple from a low-hanging branch. You inspected each one with care, ensuring it met your high standards.
Dominik watched you with a smile that stretched from ear to ear. He admired the way your face lit up with each new discovery and the way your laughter filled the air. Rhea, too, couldn't help but be captivated by your unbridled enthusiasm. She reached out to gently squeeze your hand, silently conveying her love and appreciation for your zest for life.
Finn and Damian, usually so composed and stoic, couldn't help but be infected by your infectious joy. They found themselves grinning from ear to ear as they followed you through the orchard, occasionally plucking apples of their own and adding them to your basket.
As the morning wore on, your basket filled with a colorful assortment of apples, each one a testament to your unwavering dedication to finding the very best. You took a moment to admire your handiwork, the corners of your lips upturned in satisfaction.
Your partners gathered around you, their love and adoration for you shining brightly in their eyes. They reveled in this simple yet profoundly joyful moment, sharing the beauty of fall with the person who made their lives feel like a never-ending season of warmth and happiness.
With your basket brimming with apples and your heart brimming with love, you knew that this day at the orchard would be one you'd treasure forever. And as you basked in the love and laughter of your partners, you couldn't help but feel like the luckiest person in the world.

pumpkin carving date with mammon
words: 1192
warnings: none
request for @yourboyhack who asked for a pumpkin carving date with Mammon.
notes: The brain fog has been relentless, so I wrote something short and sweet. I wanted to finish this before December, but at least it's not winter yet! I deviated from the original request a bit; I still hope it's to your liking.
As always, I apologize for any spelling or grammatical errors that may have gone unnoticed. Thank you to those who take the time to read and comment on my work; it’s greatly appreciated ♥
Tumblr media
With Lucifer’s and Diavolo’s permission, you plan a date to the human world with Mammon. You put a lot of thought into it, equally excited and nervous. He agrees to accompany you, blushing furiously despite his best efforts to maintain his cool. Of course, the human wants a day alone with the Great Mammon, and—luckily for you—he is free every day this week, never mind the fact he would drop everything in an instant if you asked. You can tell he is as excited as you are, counting down the days until your date, and trying but failing to spoil the surprise; no matter how hard he begs, you keep your mouth shut.
The big day arrives, and your worries dissipate along with it. Mammon is over the moon. His eyes glitter with excitement, and he smiles widely; the Avatar of Greed was practically bursting with joy before you walked out the door that afternoon. No matter where you go, the two of you always make plenty of happy memories, and you keep them close to your heart—today is no exception. Last night you fretted over whether he would like what you had planned, tossing and turning in bed as you imagined his face falling in disappointment. However, your mind is put at ease when he hugs you tightly in thanks. He quickly pulls away, his expression bashful as he shoves his hands into his pockets. You take a mental snapshot, savoring the moment.
This isn’t your first date—far from it—though it’s not every day you’re able to spend time alone with your first man, especially not in the human world. Halloween is around the corner so a trip to the pumpkin patch is in order. Unlike the Devildom, the pumpkins aren’t a threat to your life, and here, you can feel the warmth of the sunlight on your skin and appreciate the sound of the leaves crunching underfoot. The air is crisp, and you take in the familiar sights and sounds that come with the season. As much as you love the Devildom there are times you miss this, and you want to share it with him.
There are a lot of smiles and laughter shared between you as you search for the perfect pumpkin. He is adamant about finding the best pumpkin in the patch, scouring the rows, and appraising each one with a keen eye. It doesn’t take you long to find your own pumpkin, in fact, it’s love at first sight. Mammon, on the other hand, takes his time. You snap plenty of photos of him, your expression fond as he hunts down a pumpkin worthy of the Great Mammon himself. A caw comes from the opposite direction, and his eyes sparkle as if a pile of grimm has appeared before him. The pumpkin looks like a pile of grimm, more yellow than orange, and gleaming in the warm autumn sunlight. A crow bounces atop it, and Mammon gives them a piece of grimm in thanks. The pumpkin is, henceforth, dubbed Treasure . . . until you point out that’s what he calls you.
The corn maze catches your attention, and Mammon reluctantly agrees to participate. From the outside, the corn maze looks rather intimidating, but you enjoy yourselves as you get lost amongst the stalks of corn. Hot apple cider and doughnuts are sold nearby, and you purchase a couple before venturing into the maze. There are many twists and turns, and you take them in stride, happily drinking and eating while you chat with one another; a moment of peace and quiet where you can truly enjoy one another’s presence. The maze may be long and challenging, though it only makes for more happy memories, your laughter echoing down the winding passages. At one point, he shyly wraps an arm around your shoulder, and you lean in, snaking your own around his waist. The sun is beginning to set when you reach the end; however, the day isn’t over yet.
The last rays of sunshine dip below the horizon as you climb onto the wagon, taking a seat on a bale of hay; you can’t leave before taking a hayride. The tractor whirs to life and leads you on a sightseeing adventure through the farm. You marvel at how the colors of the sunset seem to set the trees aflame. Slowly, darkness settles over everything, the corn casting long shadows across the ground, and the temperature drops, your breath fanning out in front of you. Your goosebumps don’t go unnoticed by Mammon, who wraps his jacket around your shoulders, your heart fluttering under his gentle gaze. Resting your head on his shoulder, you look up at him, and the world falls away and all you know is him.
The second you set foot in the House of Lamentation, you gift the brothers the pumpkins you picked out for them before you left; their faces light up, even more so when you present them with fresh pumpkin and apple doughnuts to share. While they’re preoccupied, you and Mammon sneak off to your room. The table is large enough to carve your pumpkins on, and you don’t waste time bringing your ideas to life—human world Halloween specials play in the background, setting the mood. Glancing over at your first man, you chuckle to yourself as you wipe the stray pumpkin seed stuck to his cheek. He tenses beneath your touch, his blush deepening, and there’s a hint of disappointment in his eyes. It’s not there long, replaced by complete and utter joy as you lean in to kiss him.
Placing your freshly carved pumpkins on the porch, you watch as Mammon lights the candles, their flames illuminating the darkness. He joins you in the yard, mist whirling around his ankles, and reaches for your hand. Your fingers find one another, lacing together on instinct, and his grin mirrors your own. Somehow your pumpkins complement each other; it wasn’t planned, it just was, and maybe it shouldn’t surprise you as much as it did. Eventually, the brothers set their pumpkins beside yours, the steps of the House of Lamentation the brightest and coziest in the Devildom. Not even you can resist taking a couple of photos for your Devilgram, wishing to relive this moment over and over and over again.
Hours later you’re in bed with Mammon beside you. Your head is on his chest, your arms around him and his arms around you, and as silly as it sounds, you consider yourself blessed to be here right now. The silly but comforting Halloween specials you watched religiously every year as a child continue to play on your tv, though you’re no longer paying attention. He pulls you closer and kisses you, and it’s sweeter than any candy, warming you from head to toe. Smiling at him, you cup his face in your hands, and kiss him again, wondering if he feels how fast your heart beats for him—a sugar high you never wish to come down from—and he indulges you, giving you the best treat anyone could ever ask for.

Dead as Disco (Revivebur x Reader)
no proofreading, we die like men
people I’ve tagged: @poraphia, @witheredroseanon, @drop-of-void, @saccharinesunset
Synopsis: Some tough memories arise, so you help Wilbur out by sending Schlatt a final “fuck you” —-
You had a long, complicated relationship with winter. First of all— it wasn’t summer! So you could rest easy in the wonderful absence of mosquitos and nasty, sweaty heat that prevented you from enjoying any potential scenery. On the other hand, it replaced your favorite season (Fall) and brought tidings of stuffy noses and dry skin.
And your boyfriend never liked the winter, either. Not after his revival. Too cold, too dark— and too quiet, save for when the wind would blow through the open landscape, sounding far too much like the whistle of an oncoming train.
You both avoided going outside during the winter, choosing to stay curled up on the couch in front of the fireplace— your head on his chest as he muttered about whatever was on his mind, rubbing circles into your scalp.
But it was unavoidable that you’d end up outside eventually. A good chunk of Wilbur’s family lived in the tundra region and you were bound to end up walking back home late at night, having decided not to inconvenience Phil and Techno any further.
(In truth, you just wanted to get home before the snowstorm that threatened to keep snowed in for the rest of the week—- and although the Syndicate members were lovely hosts, your anniversary was coming up and you wanted to at least spend it alone together).
“Shit weather.” Wilbur mumbled as you traversed the Prime Path. “Hasn’t even snowed yet.”
Wilbur kicks at the frosted ground for emphasis, adjusting his grip on your hand and pressing as close as he could without unbalancing you. You felt sufficiently warm in your sweater and jacket, save for the stinging sensation of the wind biting at your knuckles and nose, but Wilbur was still shivering.
“The frost isn’t that bad. At least it’s crunchy.” You hum.
“Eugh, there’s so many more terrains that make better crunching sounds than this.” He grumbled.
“..Such as?”
“Gravel, for one. Sand— when it’s spread sparsely enough. But technically beaches make crunching sounds too, it’s just— muffled. I guess.” He turned to you. “Why don’t we ever go to the beach?”
“Because last time we went, I couldn’t kiss you for a week without getting sand in my mouth.”
“That’s why you wouldn’t kiss me??” Wilbur exclaimed, looking scandalized.  “Because you’d get a little sand in your mouth!”
“It’s disgusting!”
“It’s not!”
“Yes it is— it doesn’t leave your mouth, and then your going about your day and suddenly feel it crunchbetween your molars—“
“That’s the best part, the fuck are you talking about?”
“What—-“ you splutter, at a loss for words. “I can’t with you. I just can’t.”
“Ouch.” He pouted in mock offense. “You know darling, with how you treat me sometimes, one would think you…”
He trails off. You continue walking, staring at the frozen grass as you wait for him to continue. When he doesn’t, you look back up.
“Wilbur?”
Wilbur tears his eyes away from whatever he was looking at and glances back at you. “—Oh. Yeah. Nothing, we’re… lost my train of thought.”
You peer down into the darkness and spot an array of cobblestone and flags in the distance.
Oh. You had forgotten that it was visible from this route.
The banners on Schlatt’s grave, scrawled with graffiti from over the years, flapped silently in the wind.
It’s no wonder he had gone silent— especially with that incident the last time Tommy visited the Tundra.
“You ought to be careful around Quackity, Wilbur.” Philza and warned, sitting by the fire as Tommy raided his pantry for more honey bottles.
“Nah, he’s no threat.” Wilbur said, stretching his limbs. “He’s all bark, no bite. Sure, he acts all tough, but he’s just like his country. All style, no substance.”
You heard Tommy snort. “No bite? Dude literally ate Schlatt’s heart at his funeral.”
Wilbur choked. “He what?”
“Yeah, and I still have his lungs somewhere. Good times.” Tommy closed the pantry and began stuffing Phil’s belongings into his pockets.
“I sure hope you didn’t do that at my funeral.” Wilbur snorts. “…How was it, by the way?”
Tommy’s movements freeze, and you avert your eyes. “How was what, again? Sorry, I wasn’t listening. Anyway, the, um, honey—-“
“My funeral.” Wilbur repeated, smile faltering. “Was it— like— how was it?”
“We, um…” Tommy couldn’t look his brother in the eye. “It was a— wiggly time back then. There was so much going on, and—-“
“Oh.” Wilbur’s smile had completely disappeared.
“With—with— with rebuilding, and threats of further destruction—“
“Yeah.”
“We didn’t— we couldn’t—“
“Yeah. Okay.” Wilbur cleared his throat. “Okay. Alright! I get it.” He stood up, clapping his hands with a strained grin. “So! Phil, you said Technoblade was outside?”
“..Yeah.” Phil said. “He’s outside.”
Phil had barely the time to finish the sentence before Wilbur was gone, leaving a slamming door and a puff of frigid air in his wake.
Wilbur Soot, the silvertongued General, Founder, Brother, Father, Son, lover—- had never gotten a funeral.
Schlatt, on the other hand…
To everyone’s credit, Schlatt’s funeral had been more of a celebration, an opportunity for everyone he had wronged to spit, laugh, and dance on his grave.
Well. Almost everyone.
You glanced sideways at Wilbur, wondering if you should give it a shot.
“Hey.” You say and his head snaps to you. “Cmere.” You take his hand and gently pull him off the path, heading to the gravesite.
“Uh—“ Wilbur hesitates, clearly reluctant to approach the very object of his inner turmoil. “What are we doing?”
“Wait.” You scale the hill and pass by the worn benches, heading straight to where the marble tomb lay.
“Uh, [Name]?” He repeats, laughing a little incredulously. “I don’t really understand why we’re—-“
“Shush!” You march right up to the coffin— and with two definitive stomp, stomps— climb right on top. Swiveling on the spot, you turn and hold a hand out to a dumbfounded Wilbur. “Cmere.”
He lets you pull him up, awkwardly finding his footing on the rectangular lid. “Uh, alright. Why— woah!”
You tug him closer, guiding his hands to your waist and wrapping yours around the back of his neck.
Wilbur stares, and you stare back.
Your confidence begins to falter— crap, this was a dumb idea. “Um. I just— thought we could dance? Yknow.. here?”
“Dance.” He echoed, a light beginning to dawn in his eyes. A smile spreads across his face— a lovestruck, wobbly smile— and he steps closer, pulling you to his chest as he buries his face in your neck, suppressing a laugh. “..Alright.” He murmurs against your skin, grinning like an idiot.
“I know there’s no music, but—“
“It’s okay.” He says quietly, holding you close as you both sway to an inaudible tune.
You let yourself melt into it, reaching a hand up to idly pet the back of his neck, playing with his hair.
It’s less of a dance and more of a prolonged embrace since there isn’t much room for foot movement, but neither of you mind.
You tilt your head to press a kiss to the stretch of jaw just below his ear, feeling his lips twitch into another smile against the crook of your neck.
“I don’t deserve you.” He murmurs, so quiet it barely disturbs the silence around you.
“You deserve the world.” You say.
Wilbur lets out a puff of laughter, shaking his head against your shoulder and wrapping his arms around you tighter. “Mkay.”
“I’m serious.”
“I know. I’ll never understand, but I know.” He sighs, turning his head to rest his chin against your shoulder, staring out into the open fields behind you.
“You’re not a bad person.” You move a hand to scratch at his scalp and he hums contentedly. “You may not have been a good one. ..Although, admittedly, this server hasn’t been the most.. conducive to good morals. You’re a person though, a human being, and all this—-“ you squeeze him tighter, kissing his jaw, “—-you deserve.”
He’s silent for a while. You let him think, rubbing circles into his back and pretend you don’t hear the quiet sniffles he tries to choke down.
When Wilbur speaks again, his voice is steady, if not a little hoarse. “Do you, uh.. think I could be one?”
“A what? A good person, you mean?” You furrow your brow.
“Yeah. That.”
Wilbur has always had different views of humanity than you do. He presented the world like a stage, bustling with heroes and villains, characters predestined by fate. Life was a story, and they were in center stage, the protagonists of it all, following a script until met with triumph or tragedy. It’s with these grand, romanticized views of reality that Wilbur had managed to win over so many people. Everyone loves a good story, after all.
As a rigidly scientific mind, you never shared those sentiments. Humans were merely developed animals, that’s all. Each struggle would be lost and rendered meaningless to the sands of time, and so would the morals on which they stood.
“I think you could.”  The night is getting colder and your feet are freezing, but neither of you are willing to leave this pocket of warmth you’ve created, heads tucked into necks and hands running through hair.
“But you don’t believe good and bad people, do you? You never did.” Wilbur said quietly.
“Maybe not. But I still think you could fit your definition of ‘good person’. You are kind. That’s a start.” You continue rubbing circles into his scalp, carefully twisting and combing the curls with your fingers.
Wilbur doesn’t respond. He only lifts his head, trailing his lips in a pathway from your shoulder to your jaw, up your cheek to rest against your forehead. He stays like that, eyes closed for one, two, three heartbeats before he pulls away to look you in the eye.
Wilbur’s  ears, nose, and eyes are tinged red, the first two from the cold and the last from silently crying into your shoulder.
Both your hands and his cheek are frigid, but when you brush your thumb under his eye he leans into the touch anyway, not looking away from you for even a moment.
He only closes his eyes when you lean forward, pressing your lips to his.
It’s the collapsing of a star, pulled magnetically inwards, striving to be as close as physically possible. He’s cradling your face like it’s made of sugarglass and you treat him with equal gentleness, running a hand through his hair, mindlessly stepping backwards as he crowds your space, adjusting to get closer, closer because it’s still cold—-
You take one last step and suddenly there’s no more marble under your heel, and you pitch backwards, toppling off the tomb with a yelp. Wilbur follows suit, sprawling out on the grass next to you with grunt.
Within seconds, you’re both wheezing with laughter, pulling each other closer and leaning back to rest
After catching his breath, Wilbur speaks. “We should do this more often.”
You don’t miss the tinge of sadness in his voice, and suddenly become very aware about how distant this relationship has gotten. It’s not neglected, by any means, but you can’t remember the last time you did something like this.
(Actually, you can. The last time you danced like this was November 15th, 2020).
But you opt for a more lighthearted tone. “What? Dance on this grave more often?”
“No, no— I mean yes, I’d love to make this our designated date spot— yknow?” He looks over at you with a sly grin.
“Mm-hm. Maybe bring some music next time.” You smile back.
“And a few blankets. Maybe some wine.” Wilbur leans a bit closer.
“Picnic?” You whisper.
“Definitely.” He closes his eyes and rests his forehead against yours. “But.. also in general. We could… have more dates, in general. It’s been a while.”
“Yeah. It has.” You murmur, closing your eyes as well. “…So, next Friday?”
You feel him laugh softly. “Yeah! Yeah, next Friday sounds great.”
Unable to help yourself, you cup his cheek and pull him into a kiss. It’s a lot softer than the last kiss, lips lingering together as you both pull apart to breathe.
“…I hope Schlatt’s fuming in hell right now.” Wilbur says quietly, eyes still closed and lips still close.
“I bet he is.”

wolf moon pt.1
All of the craziness started on a Sunday.
The last day of winter break had been stressful enough to start, with the anxiety of having to start up classes again at the front of Amber’s mind all morning. It would be the final semester of her sophomore year. Then, the next year would be crammed with SATs and ACTs and applying to colleges. She knew they would all be one step closer to having to decide what to do with the rest of their lives.
She found it all very daunting.
Since waking up that morning, the girl had restlessly alternated between hiding away in the privacy of her bedroom and lounging in the living room downstairs, unable to find a comfortable place to settle. At some point, she'd managed to chew her nails to the point of bleeding. Pulling her hair back into a braid had become a necessity when she noticed herself picking obsessively at her split ends. Her laptop sat open on the coffee table along with a small stack of paperbacks, from where she had started and then immediately abandoned two different television shows and three books.
After dinner, her irritating inability to sit still had finally pushed her older brother, Jason, to his final breaking point. He'd demanded she go change into exercise clothes and then he dragged her from the house in an effort to release some of her pent up restless energy.
Jason forced her out for a jog through the preserve, and only a measly ten minutes into their run she found herself already with sweat trickling down her temple. She was breathing heavily, slowly falling behind, while her brother continued to run ahead of her with ease.
Amber watched as her brother's lead slowly increased in length, the gap between them growing larger and larger, the sound of his footfalls crunching over leaves and twigs growing more and more faint as she trailed behind. Eventually, upon rounding a long bend in the hiking trail, she realized that she could no longer see him in the distance at all.
With a pause to catch her breath, she bent over at the waist to brace her hands on her knees in an attempt to pull more air into her aching lungs.
Over a mile deep in the preserve, the only sounds that met her ears were that of the breeze whistling as it filtered through barren branches, the odd scuffle of fallen leaves rolling over one another, and her own wheezing breaths of exertion.
When she lifted her head to take stock of where she'd stopped, she found that she'd reached the first fork in the trail. She returned to an upright position, chest heaving as she continued to pant labored breaths, deliberating which path her brother might have taken with hands on her hips.
With a resolved shake of her head, she chose the path to the right. Regardless of which she took, both would eventually lead back to the small trailhead where they'd parked the truck. So, she continued on.
The pace that she settled into could hardly have been considered a jog — if anything, she was moving in a walk with only the exaggerated body movements of a run, but she was tired.
She had only made it a few hundred feet from where the trail split off before she spotted something that piqued her curiosity in a pile of dry brush and leaves at the side of the trail. She slowed as she approached, wiping a bead of sweat from her forehead with her shirtsleeve and breathing heavily.
Poking out from the leaves, she could just make out the peculiar shape of a cluster of pale rocks — it almost resembled toes.
A choked combination of a gag and a gasp escaped her. She covered her mouth with the sleeve of her windbreaker as she reached the pile of brush because — It was definitely toes, connected to a foot, which then connected to legs and, well, that was pretty much where it ended because there was only half of a body.
Another gag pushed its way out of her throat, eyes drawn to the clean, smooth cut that went straight through the hips of the corpse beneath the dead leaves. Something had been used to cut them through muscle and flesh and bone. She could see it was a female — the body had been left completely naked.
This had been a person. And they laid on the ground, covered in earth and dried blood, just a few feet from where she was standing. Amber could see dirt caked around the pink nail polish that covered the woman's toenails. Even through all of the blood, she could make out a tiny freckle on the bare skin of the corpse's knee.
She fought back another gag as she finally found her voice, and she screamed.
“Jason!”
Her voice came out shrill. It cracked painfully as she shouted for her brother again and again. She screamed only a handful of times before she could hear her brother yelling her own name in panic as he backtracked and found his way to her on the trail.
Jason's feet skidded in the dirt as he came to a stop in front of where his sister was still standing. Her shaking fingers still covering her mouth as she struggled to keep herself from dry-heaving. His hands went to her shoulders as he checked his sister over for any sort of visible injury. When he found none, his attention turned around them, searching for a threat. His eyes widened when he followed her gaze and caught sight of the body — what there was of one — that sat only a few feet away from them.
Amber distantly heard the call that her brother placed to the Sheriff's Station. She could hear him telling someone about the body and she heard him give directions to their location on the trail, but it was echoed, like she was underwater as she listened to him speak into his phone off to the side of her peripheral vision.
She couldn't seem to pull her eyes away from the corpse. The skin was so pale, it had almost a blueish hue. She wondered, absently, if the person had been out here in the cold before they died, or if that was just what a body looked like after so much blood loss because this person must have lost... So. Much. Blood.
The whole body was covered in in it, gluing dry leaves and dirt to their skin. They had been cut in half. Or, maybe they hadn’t been cut in half until after they’d died. Maybe, Amber thought, it had been something simple. A quick death. Something like a gunshot to the head–
God. She hoped desperately that the woman hadn’t been sliced in half while they were still alive.
It felt like only a minute or two had passed but it must have been longer because suddenly, the bright evening sunlight that had guided her along the trail during their jog was dwindling. It was growing dark and she was being ushered away from the body as officers took pictures, laying crime tape and placing little numbered tents around the scene.
Her brother stood off to the side speaking to the same deputy Amber had just finished with, recounting his own memory of the evening. The deputy nodded and took notes down on their little pad once again, just as they had when Amber had been talking.
Down at the end of the trail, it seemed as if police cars might never stop coming. There were officers making their way up with search dogs now. The dogs barked and ran around, likely on the search for the other half of the body.
She stood off to the side as her eyes flicked from where Jason was speaking to the deputy, to the location of the body, where cameras were flashing and uniformed deputies were moving back and forth in a blur.
Amber felt a hand land on her shoulder and nearly jumped out of her skin. Her heart pounded loudly in her ears as she spun around to see that it was only Sheriff Stilinski, looking at her with the same soft look of concern in his eyes that she'd seen so many times over the years.
“Amber. I didn’t realize it was you and Jason who’d come across it. When I got the call.. I was out of the house so fast I didn’t think to ask-” He sighed, “You okay, kid?”
The girl took a shaky breath, but nodded. The heavy hand Sheriff Stilinski still had resting on her shoulder felt grounding. While he could never replace her dad, he was as close as she got these days and she was grateful for his presence now.
Over the years, there had been something about the stern, protective, always unwaveringly loving energy that her best friend's father emitted. Somehow, he always managed to make her darkest days just a bit better — it was entirely possible that the ability was simply a Stilinski family trait.
“Yeah. I’m okay. Scarred for life, definitely, yeah. But, okay.” Amber said, feeling proud when the small smile she gave him was only somewhat shaky. “I actually think I might go to Scott's? I’ll call Stiles.. See if they want to watch some movies or something. Just.. Distract myself, y'know?”
Getting Stiles to sit down quietly and watch a movie could be like pulling teeth sometimes. He was constantly jamming his elbow into her waist to get her attention away from the screen, or talking over the action, or pulling out his laptop mid-scene to search the internet for inaccuracies or an actor's filmography in a way that she found endlessly endearing.
It was exactly the kind of distraction she felt like she needed right now.
The Sheriff nodded in response before pulling her in for a tight hug. His hand lingered at the back of her head for a few moments, but then he was releasing her and setting off to talk with a cluster of officers.
“I'd really feel better with you at home where I know you're okay.” Jason told her once they'd closed themselves off inside of his pickup truck.
While understood why her brother was so reluctant to let her go off on her own, Amber was entirely too stubborn for her own good, and Jason inevitably agreed to drop her at Scott's house on his way home, with her promise of getting a decent night’s sleep.
After all, it was a school night.
It was hard to believe that only a couple of hours before, she had been stressed about school of all things. Now, she was fighting off yet another wave of nausea brought on by stumbling across a dead body deep in the preserve.
Well, half of one.
As soon as the vehicle began moving, trees rushing past her window in a dark blur of motion, she was trying to get a hold of Stiles. After two attempts in which the call merely rang through to his voicemail, she tucked her phone back into the pocket of her sport jacket with a frown and a huff. She would just have to wait and see if Scott knew whether Stiles was busy tonight.
Amber had hardly made it two steps into the entryway of the McCall house when Scott came barreling down the stairs, attempting to pull on a zip-up hoodie with one hand and wielding a baseball bat in the other. She opened her mouth to question him but before she could make a sound he shushed her aggressively, pushing her behind himself without explanation as he crept out the front door and onto the porch with an abundance of caution and visible nerves.
“Scott?!” She whispered aggressively, still receiving no answer beyond a frustrated wave of his hand signaling for her to be quiet.
She followed close behind, confused and mildly alarmed as she tried to imagine whatever threat Scott thought that he might find outside. She clung onto the hood of the boy's sweatshirt with one hand as she trailed close behind. Scott held the bat, ready to strike, as the two rounded the porch at the side of the house.
The rapidly dropping temperature over the previous half an hour had the breath puffing out from their mouths in foggy clouds in the dark. Scott relaxed his hold on the bat for a brief second as he peered down over the railing, inadvertently pulling Amber forward with him.
Suddenly, something large dropped down from the roof to dangle in front of them, both teens letting out a scream of alarm. Amber instinctively yanked on Scott's sweatshirt in an attempt to pull him back from the threat, but they both quieted upon recognizing the third scream coming from the person now hanging upside-down from the trellis at the roof of the porch.
“Stiles!” She and Scott both yelled in frustrated synchronization.
“What the hell are you doing?” Scott continued immediately.
“You weren’t answering your phone!” Stiles yelled at Scott defensively. “And.. Okay, I know I wasn’t either.” He added sheepishly when he spotted Amber still hidden behind Scott. “Why do you have a bat?!” Stiles’ voice rose to a shrill level again.
As if only now remembering his weapon of choice was still clutched defensively above their heads, ready for an attack, Scott lowered the bat a small increment before speaking, “I thought you were a predator.” He explained simply.
“A pre-” Stiles spluttered, “Look, I know it’s late, but you gotta hear this. I saw my dad leave twenty minutes ago. Dispatch called. They’re bringing in every officer from the Beacon Department, and even State Police.”
Amber felt her heart drop suddenly into her stomach as if it were made up of lead.
“For what?” Scott asked, his eyebrows scrunching in curiosity.
“Two joggers found a body in the woods.” Stiles explained at the same time Amber’s voice whispered a meek, “We found a body.”
Stiles clumsily dropped down from where he had been hanging upside-down, arms flailing as he fell from the roof and onto the ground below the porch in a clumsy heap of limbs. The boy stumbled a bit before he managed to get his footing and moved to stand upright.
Scott’s head pivoted back and forth between his two best friends, his eyes wide. “A dead body?”
“No, a body of water. Yes, Dumbass. A dead body.” Stiles scoffed, climbing up onto the porch to stand in front of them. He turned to Amber with a furrow between his brows, “Who's we? You found it?” He asked with growing excitement.
“Jason and I.” She supplied quietly.
“You mean like.. Murdered?” Scott interrupted, taking a step back to stand beside Amber instead of in front of her. He seemed to be stuck on the concept of the dead body being dead.
“Nobody knows yet. Just that it was a girl, probably in her twenties.” Stiles said with wide eyes, like he found it all very exciting. Amber was beginning to feel queasy again.
“Hold on,” Scott said, “If they found the body, then what are they looking for?”
“That's the best part.” Stiles started, looking to Amber for assurance, or maybe some assistance in the reveal of the next bit of information. She only managed a deep breath after a moment, feeling truly sick as Stiles finished, “They only found half.”
“It was only half.”
Although they spoke at the same time, Amber's words had come out much quieter than Stiles, hardly a weak murmur. Hand beginning to cramp where she was still clutching tightly onto the fabric of Scott’s hood, she released it to flex her fingers a couple of times.
Stiles reached out a hand to rest on her shoulder, leaning in close, “We're going.” He announced firmly.
“Are we actually going to do this?” Scott asked, looking back and forth between them again.
“No.” Amber got out, though the heavy warmth of Stiles' hand through her windbreaker was already making her judgement fuzzy.
Stiles looked at Scott briefly before returning his attention to her, “How come you're the only one who gets to find a body, huh?” He slipped his hand down from her shoulder to grip at her elbow and cradled it softly.
“I don’t know how great you think finding a dead body was for me, but I assure you, it wasn't nearly as fun as whatever you're imagining.” Amber told Stiles.
He stayed silent for once, maintaining eye contact with her for a long minute. She tried to remain strong, she truly did. Amber broke eye contact to look at his face, her eyes flicking over each freckle and mole dotting his pale skin. Steadfastly refusing to let her eyes fall to his lips or drift back to his whiskey colored eyes, she could literally feel her resolve crumbling with every second that she looked at her best friend.
“I’m never going to be able to talk you assholes out of doing this, am I?” She asked quietly. The pit in her stomach felt as if it were expanding with the intent to swallow her whole as her eyes finally went back to his.
A stupidly sweet smile stretched across Stiles' face immediately as he realized he'd won and his hand trailed lower again, taking hold of her own and giving it a squeeze.
Her belly did a traitorous flip at the feeling of her hand in his own and she heaved a resigned sigh. She really didn’t want to have to find both halves of this body.

“We’re seriously doing this?” Scott repeated, sounding unsure.
“You're the ones always bitching that nothing ever happens in this town.” Stiles said, rifling through his backpack as they climbed out of his cramped Jeep. He triumphantly pulled out a flashlight and clicked it on, illuminating the preserve in a bright stream of light.
“Plenty has happened for me, today.” Amber reminded them, shielding her eyes until Stiles had lowered the flashlight to shine on the ground.
He put a hand at the small of Amber’s back as they ventured away from the Jeep, guiding her forward gently while he lit a path in front of them.
“And I was trying to get a good night’s sleep before practice tomorrow.” Scott said.
Stiles addressed Scott first, “Right, ‘cause sitting on the bench is such a grueling effort. And you,” He said, shining the flashlight at Amber briefly before focussing it back in front of them while they made their way through the trees, “You get to find a body, I get to find a body, right? Fair's fair.”
“I'm playing this year. In fact, I'm making first line.” Scott said, bringing the conversation back around to himself and looking annoyingly smug.
“Hey, that's the spirit! Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically unrealistic one.” Stiles laughed, his hand drifting to grip Amber's hip momentarily before it returned to the safety of her spine.
She reached up to reprimand Stiles with a gentle thwack on the back of the head as they walked, letting her hand fall to his elbow and pulling his arm from behind her, taking ahold of his hand for support instead as they walked. He began to move faster with his long stride and Amber allowed him pull her along while she attempted to keep up on her shorter legs.
It had grown colder still, their breath continuing to puff out in tiny clouds as the three hiked through the preserve, moving as quickly as they could while watching their step over rocks and fallen branches.
“Just out of curiosity.. Which half of the body are we looking for?” Scott finally asked.
Stiles stumbled, his steps faltering as he paused beside Amber, “Huh. I didn’t think about that.”
Both boys looked to her as they continued to move, waiting for an answer.
“You know what? You’ll find out if we find it. I refuse to indulge you both any more than I already am just by being here.” She huffed, taking a step away from the two of them while maintaining her hold on Stiles' hand.
“And, uh, what if whoever killed the body is still out here?” Scott followed up, nervously looking up into the trees surrounding them.
Amber took a hasty step back toward Stiles as her stomach tied itself tighter in knots at the thought, fearfully clutching Stiles' hand tighter in her grip.
“Also something I didn't think about.” Stiles replied.
“It's comforting to know you planned this out with your usual attention to detail.” Scott panted as they dropped to nearly a crawl at a steep incline.
“I know.” Stiles grinned, carefully pulling Amber up with him as they scaled the slippery hill.
When Scott stopped to lean against a tree trunk, she paused and tugged on Stiles' arm to slow him as he tried to keep moving.
“Maybe the, uh, severe asthmatic should be the one holding the flashlight, huh?” Scott said between choppy breaths.
Amber shot a brief glare toward Stiles in the dark, rubbing her free hand on Scott's arm in a comforting gesture as he pulled out his inhaler.
They continued on, following the light Stiles shined ahead of them until he suddenly dropped to the ground, dragging Amber down beside him and covering the bright beam shining out from his flashlight. In the dark, they could see more flashlights sweeping back and forth in the distance, illuminating the mist of rain that was beginning falling around them. They could hear search dogs huffing quiet noises between barks.
“Come on.” Stiles shot to his feet and took off before either of them could stop him and he pulled Amber's arm painfully as he took off, not yet relinquishing his grip on her hand.
“Stiles!” Scott and Amber both whisper-shouted at his back.
When her hand slipped from Stiles' as they raced after him in the dark, Amber squeaked unhappily, “Wait up!” She called out iman hushed voice.
“Stiles!” Scott called after him, “Stiles!”
The two moved as fast as they could, trying to keep up with their friend, but he'd gotten ahead of them. Amber huffed when her toe caught on a tree root and she grabbed onto Scott as she righted herself. She was still gripping onto Scott's arms and getting her feet back underneath her when she heard Stiles let out a cut off scream of alarm in the distance, shortly followed by the sound of dogs barking.
He had been spotted.
“Stay right there!” An officer shouted over the sound of the dog barking.
“Shit.” Amber whispered with wide eyes as Scott dragged her along to hide behind a large tree.
“Hang on, hang on. This little delinquent belongs to me.” They heard the Sheriff’s voice announce with disappointment.
“Dad. How're you doing?” Stiles greeted weakly.
“So. Do you, uh, listen in to all of my phone calls?” Sheriff Stilinski questioned.
“No,” Stiles laughed nervously, “Not the boring ones..”
Amber thumped her forehead against Scott's shoulder. “Idiot.” She whispered fondly, shaking her head.
“Now, where're your usual partners in crime? I thought after the night she’d had, Amber would've kept you away from this.”
She felt the heat of it when Scott took a quiet, shaky breath.
“Scott? Scott's home.” Stiles stuttered, “He said he wanted to get a good night's sleep for first day back to school tomorrow, so.. Amber went home and now it's just me. In the woods.. Alone.”
“Scott!” The sheriff yelled out, causing them both to flinch from where they were huddled behind the tree, “Amber! You out there? Scott!” There was a pause during which Amber and Scott looked at one another nervously, eyes wide. “Well, young man, I'm gonna walk you back to your car and you and I are gonna have a conversation about something called invasion of privacy.”
Thunder rolled loudly over the sound of the Sheriff dragging Stiles and their only flashlight off into the distance. The mist from earlier had eased it's way into a drizzle during the encounter and Amber shivered violently as the cold rain began to seep into her clothes.
“Now what?” She asked quietly.
“We- Walk home, I guess.” Scott sighed.
They made their way back through the trees in what Amber could only hope was the right direction, arms coming up to attempt to rub warmth into her own biceps as they moved through the rain.
They both flinched and spun around in fear at the sound of an animal howling in the distance. Amber turned to Scott and they looked at one another with wide, scared eyes before they began walking again. Scott jerked and came to a stop again only a few minutes later when they heard a large bird flapping it's wings overhead in the trees, prompting Amber to walk straight into his back. She reached up to push him forward with hands on his shoulders.
“Come on.” She urged quietly through her own nerves.
Eventually, Scott slowed to a stop again and moved to take a puff from his inhaler, his breathing ragged from all of the hiking. As he brought the inhaler to his mouth, Amber heard the sound of twigs breaking, the sound growing louder at it rushed toward them.
Scott yelled, shoving his friend to the side before falling to the ground himself. Amber screamed as she smacked against the ground, scrambling to hide behind a tree as a stampede of deer came running through. She gasped as she watched the deer only narrowly avoid trampling Scott several times before they cleared.
“Scott,” She whispered in the dark, heart pounding in her ears, “God.. You okay?”
“I dropped my inhaler!” He answered frantically, pulling out his phone for a weak source of light as he raked his hands through the leaves underfoot.
Suddenly, he yelled out again and Amber took a step closer to her friend just in time to watch him stumble and fall down an incline, and then he was gone.
“Scott!” She ran to the place where he’d fallen but as she reached the hillside, she tripped over something large on the ground and tumbled down after him.
Twigs snapped and scratched at her skin as she rolled down the hill, scraping at her hips and back as her shirt rode up, the back of her head smacking down roughly on a large rock when she finally came to a stop at the bottom of the incline.
Scott's heavy breathing was loud in the silence that followed as he righted himself.
“Amber?” He whispered, moving through the leaves.
She moved to sit up but her vision swam and she was forced to drop her head back down to the rock beneath her with a painful thunk.
“Ow.” She moaned quietly.
A loud growling sounded close by and they were both immediately filled with a cold dread. She could hear Scott’s screams but couldn’t make herself move. She shivered both from the cold and from fear, her head throbbing painfully as her heartbeat picked up.
“Scott?” She called out after a moment, voice quiet.
His screaming had stopped and she heard the sound of twigs breaking and footfalls running into the distance until she could no longer hear them at all.
“Scott?” She tried once more, finding the strength to lift her head to look around her.
The forest remained silent.
She rolled onto her front, moving her arms underneath herself and pushing up onto her knees shakily, black spots danced in the corners of her vision but the preserve was so dark that it was difficult to tell if it was due to the throbbing in her head or lack of light.
Crawling toward a large tree, Amber moved to lean back against the trunk. She shakily lifted a hand to the back of her head and felt the warm wetness in the hair at her crown. She withdrew her hand and her fingers came back stained dark.
“Fuck.” She whispered into the trees, unsure what to do now.
Tumblr media
She must’ve fallen asleep for a few minutes because suddenly, she found herself waking.
She groaned quietly when she felt the sharp pain in the back of her head, the wound immensely sore where she had it pressed against the trunk of the tree behind her. She pried her eyes open and saw a head of dark hair on the person who was knelt down in front of her.
She tried to lift her head to lessen the pressure on her injury, but her head felt heavy so soon after waking, and it lolled to the side instead. The movement stopped when a hand moved to catch her gently by cupping the side of her face. Her vision swam for a slow second afterward while the hand held her head steady.
She could hear a voice but it sounded muffled and distant, like she had cotton stuck in her ears.
“Scott?” Amber rasped softly.
The first thing she’d felt had been the ache in her head, but as she came to, she began to feel other things. She could feel the way her damp clothes clung to her skin as she shivered. Her whole body felt sore from rolling down the hill but nothing seemed to hurt enough to be broken.
The hand on the left side of her face moved to cup her chin and pressed their thumb into her jaw, shaking her head softly. She let out a quiet, unhappy noise when the movement made her vision swim again.
“Spinny.” She complained.
Amber lifted a hand up to reach for the person's face. When her cold fingertips landed on their cheek she could feel a light stubble covering the person’s sharp jawline.
“Not Scott,” She deduced to herself miserably. She widened her eyes at the mystery person comically for a moment in an attempt to clear her vision, “Definitely not Stiles.”
She let her hand drop to the person’s shoulder to steady herself and pulled her torso up to lean away from the rough bark of the tree.
“Your. Name.” The voice repeated slowly, voice sounding clearer to her ears now that the fuzz in her brain was clearing. The hand on her face squeezed softly and pressed warm fingers into her cheek with each word.
“Amber.” She told them.
Her vision was clearer now. As the rain passed, so had the clouds, and in the glow from the moonlight that now shined through the bare trees above them, she could see the person in front of her with minimal double vision — The incredibly handsome person in front of her.
“Your eyes are very pretty.” She whispered before she could stop herself, looking into the palest eyes she’d ever seen. She wondered absently whether they were blue or green in the daylight.
The guy snorted softly in amusement, shaking his head before regaining a stoic expression, “Turn your head so I can check what we’re dealing with.”
His voice was deep and gruff and incredibly soothing. He continued to gently cup her head in one hand as he examined the bloody patch at the back of her skull, his hands the same rough yet soft combination as his voice.
“What seems to be the damage, Mister Doctor, Sir?” She asked after a moment, flinching when he prodded gently at the swollen area.
“Doesn’t look like you need stitches.” He told her, leaning back to give her some space and wiping his hands on his dark jeans, “Don’t think you hit it hard enough for brain injury either, but it’ll probably hurt for a couple days.”
“Yay for no lasting brain damage.” Amber cheered quietly as she shivered, missing the warmth of his hand against her cheek.
“You should get home. Get some rest.” The guy reached his hands out to her again, gripping one of her own and helping her to her feet with a firm grip at her elbow, “You shouldn’t even be out here in the first place. It’s private property, y’know. This isn’t a part of the preserve.”
They started to move through the woods slowly. Amber’s legs felt shaky and her butt was numb from sitting on the cold ground for so long, but her mystery doctor had moved one of his arms around her waist, supporting a majority of her weight as he maneuvered her feet smoothly over fallen branches and tree roots.
“It’s dark and my flashlight abandoned me,” She defended, “Then I tripped. Then I was abandoned again. Jesus, I hope Scott made it home okay.”
She looked to her doctor-helper with wide eyes, suddenly remembering the blood chilling sound of Scott’s scream before he had run away from her.
“There’s no one else in the preserve, now.” He assured her, “It’s just the two of us. So, whoever he is, I’m sure he made it home, just like you should be doing.”
“Yes, sir.” She mumbled reluctantly with her eyes still glued to his face, trusting that if she tripped he wouldn’t let her fall. She swore she saw his lips twitch into a brief but genuine smile before he shook his head, continuing their hike out of the forest.
“Do you have someone you can call for a ride?” He asked, “I didn’t drive here.”
Amber found herself wondering how he’d gotten out to the preserve on the edge of town if he hadn’t driven, but didn’t voice her thoughts.
“I, uh, yeah. I can try.” She decided. She pulled out her phone to see that less than an hour had passed since their run in with the Sheriff’s Deputies. She couldn’t have been unconscious for more than twenty minutes.
Amber sent a quick text to Scott to check he’d truly made it home, but paused before calling anyone. There was no way she was calling her brother to pick her up at nearly midnight, so she pulled up the number she’d called twice earlier in the evening and hoped for an answer this time.
The man beside her guided her over a cluster of rocks with a hand at her elbow as she brought her phone up to her ear and listened to the dull ringing.
“Amber! You good? You and Scott make it home okay?” Stiles greeted, picking up after only the second ring.
“Not exactly.” She muttered, her phone beeping as a text came through and she read the message from Scott.
Just got home. In bed. Need to talk to u and Stiles before school tomorrow.
Her eyebrows furrowed as she read and reread the message. She was glad Scott was safe at home but was he not at all worried about her?
“What do you mean? You guys okay?” Stiles asked nervously through the phone.
Amber smiled at the stranger beside her in silent thanks as he kept her from tripping over another rock.
“Scott’s gone. I guess he’s home now but I’m still in the preserve. I think I’m almost out to the road-” She said with question in her voice. The man next to her nodded silently and she continued, “Yeah, almost out to the road, but-”
“I’m on my way-” Stiles said quickly. She could hear movement on the other end of the line before his keys jingling loudly and the telltale bang of his front door closing.
“Your dad still working?”
“Yeah, I doubt he’ll be home ‘til morning.” He told her as the door to the Jeep slammed and she heard the loud rumble of the car coming to life, “Just stay with me and I’ll find you when you get out to the road, alright? Let me know when you’re out.”
“I can actually see it now.” She said, as the trees began to clear and she caught sight of the pavement ahead of her.
“Okay, okay. I’ll be right there, alright?” His voice was laced with worry and she sighed softly into the phone.
“Stiles, I’m fine, okay? Don’t speed to get to me.”
She heard him huff in response, which meant he was probably already going too fast as he drove the winding roads that led out to the preserve.
The hand on her arm had released her when they got closer to the main road and Amber looked to thank the man next to her but he was gone. She spun in a slow circle as her eyebrows furrowed, thinking that surely he couldn’t have gone far, but he’d vanished.
She looked back to the street after a few minutes and could see headlights shining bright in the distance, reflecting off the telephone wires and the wet pavement.
“Stiles, I see a car coming.”
“Okay, okay, I’m slowing down.”
The car approaching did, indeed slow down until there was a blue Jeep stopped in the road in front of her. Stiles threw the door open and ran from the car as she crossed she street and he didn’t waste a second before he was throwing his arms around her shoulders.
“You okay? I can’t believe Scott left you by yourself.”
His voice was muffled in her hair as he pressed his face into the top of her head. One of his hands trailed up from her shoulders to cup the back of her head and she flinched, whining in pain when he pressed against where she’d hit her head earlier.
“What happened?” He asked immediately, pulling back to look at her. When he caught sight of the red stain on his hand in the glow of the headlights, his eyes went wide, spinning her around quickly to look at the spot he’d touched. “Jesus, Am, what happened?”
“I’m fine, honestly. I’m pretty sure it’s barely bleeding anymore. I tripped and hit my head, but I’m okay. Could use an aspirin or ten, though.”
Stiles spun her back around and looked at her like he didn’t quite believe her, but guided her to the passenger side of the vehicle silently. She climbed inside and he was leaning in to buckle her up before she could begin to do it herself.
“You’re sure you’re okay?” He asked softly, letting his hand linger on her thigh after getting the buckle clicked into place.
“I’m fine,” She promised quietly, flushing under his gentle attention, “Can we just go to your house? If I get caught sneaking in at this point, Jason’s gonna kill me. I’m better off sleeping somewhere else.”
“Yeah, ’course.” He pulled back and gently closed the door before rounding the vehicle and climbing behind the wheel. Turning them around and heading home.
When they got to the Stilinski house, they went straight to Stiles’ room and he closed the door out of habit despite them being the only ones home.
“Let me see your head again so I can get a better look.” Stiles demanded as he approached her.
In the bright light of his bedroom, Amber could now see how dirty she was, her athletic leggings covered in mud streaks and her hands much the same. She could only imagine how filthy her face was. And her hair hair where it was pulled back in a now messy braid.
His hands were gentle as he moved her hair to look at the bump on the back of her head, but she still flinched when he poked at it delicately.
“Sorry.” He apologized from behind her, stroking a hand down the side of her hair.
“It’s fine.” She promised again, “I should shower though. Seriously.”
“Yeah, of course.” He said easily, squeezing her arm before traipsing back into the hallway and to the linen closet, pulling out a clean towel and holding it out to her.
She thanked him and made her way to the bathroom before closing the door behind her. She stripped out of her damp, dirty clothes, undoing the braid in her hair and combing her fingers through it softly. She turned the water on and let it heat up before climbing under the spray. She watched dirt and small bits of leaf trailed down onto the shower floor as she rinsed her hair.
She used the men’s shower products that littered the shower, scrubbing down with the masculine smelling body wash twice. She winced when it stung the tiny scrapes on her hips, and proceeded to gently shampoo around the bump at the back of her head.
When she finished, Amber climbed out and dried the excess water from her hair roughly before drying her body. She secured the towel she’d been given around her tight once she was no longer dripping.
She knocked softly on Stiles’ bedroom door as she made her way back over, not wanting to interrupt him if he was getting changed. The door swung open quickly and Amber jumped in surprise at the sight of Stiles standing in front of her in his doorway, already changed into pajama pants and a tshirt.
He gaped silently as his eyes trailed to where her towel was hooked loosely at the top of her breasts. A small bead of water dripped from the nape of her neck in a slow trail past her collarbones and into her cleavage before disappearing beneath the towel and he couldn’t help but swallow loudly, blinking himself out of his stupor and returning his eyes to the safety of his friend’s face.
“Am I allowed in, or have I been exiled to the hallway?” She laughed when he continued to block the doorway after a few moments.
“Right! Sorry!” He jumped back, opening the door wider and allowing her entrance into the room.
She continued to smile as she stepped past him, a blush rising to her cheeks as she thought about the look on his face as his eyes had trailed down to her chest.
“Can I borrow something to sleep in?” She asked, hand coming up to fiddle with where the towel was secured around her.
“Sure, yeah, what do you want?” He rushed to his dresser and opened a drawer already rifling through it.
“Any tshirt would be good.” She said, biting her lip as she thought about the underwear she’d left in the bathroom. She’d been wearing them on her run earlier and grimaced at the thought of putting them back on.
Stiles triumphantly produced a clean shirt and threw it toward the bed before looking at her, his eyes stuck on where she had her bottom lip pulled between her teeth.
“Would- Would it be weird if I asked for boxers or something?” She asked awkwardly.
“N-No, no I can-“ He slammed the drawer he’d procured the tshirt from and opened another, moving things around aggressively in search of a pair of underwear for her. It took longer than it had for the shirt, but after a minute his hand re-emerged from the drawer with a pair of checkered boxers in his hands and a flush on his cheeks. “Here.”
Amber accepted the shorts, her hand brushing his softly in the exchange and she gulped.
It was hardly the first time she’d slept at one of the boy’s houses, definitely not the first time she’d borrowed a shirt, but there was something significantly more intimate about doing so after a shower — about doing it and not having an article of her own clothing to separate Stiles’ clothes from her naked body.
She toyed with the underwear in her hands, “Stiles?”
“Yeah?”
“I uh, I can’t get changed if you’re standing right in front of me.”
This seemed to startle him into action and he blushed, coughing into the back of his hand awkwardly in an attempt to hide it.
“Right, I’ll go- I’ll get you some Aspirin!” He said before moving around her and closing the door behind him.
She shook her head and took a deep breath, dropping her towel and drying herself one final time before pulling on the boxers, rolling them twice at the waist to get the fit better before she paused, distracted. Curling her fingers into the material at her hips, she had a thought.
Her mind was racing, imagining Stiles’ own naked body beneath the shorts that were against her bare skin, now. The thought sent a flush creeping up her neck and a tingling heat to her gut.
She swallowed loudly in the quiet room.
Stepping toward the bed, she picked up the basic shirt Stiles had gotten out for her. She moved her arms through the holes and was using her hands to stretch it over her wet hair in an attempt to avoid the sore spot at the back of her head when she heard the door open behind her. She quickly pulled the shirt down over her back and turned to face Stiles where he was standing frozen in the doorway with a glass of water in one hand and two Aspirin cupped in the other.
“I- Sorry,” He said quickly, “I should’ve knocked? I don’t know why I didn’t knock.”
“No worries, Sti.” She told him softly as she pulled her damp hair out from beneath the collar of the shirt. She moved to take the painkillers and the water from him with a smile before sipping from the glass and swallowing the pills.
“I also got out a new toothbrush. Left it by the sink. Figured you’d need one.” Stiles told her as he watched her swallow down the tablets.
“God, yeah. Brushing your teeth with your finger is just- Not the same.” She shuddered at the thought, “I’ll be right back, then.”
Grabbing her towel from the floor, she went back across the hallway into the bathroom. The mirror was still clouded with condensation from her shower and she wiped it clear with the damp towel before putting it in the hamper tucked behind the door.
She brushed her teeth quickly, collecting her dirty heap of clothes from the bathroom floor before she made her way back into the bedroom and closed the door behind her.
Stiles was already standing at the bed, pulling down the blankets and settling into the open side, already armed with the knowledge from previous sleepovers that she preferred to be on the side closest to the wall.
She moved to crawl across his legs to the other side of the bed and climbed underneath the covers, settling down onto her side facing the wall, not wanting to put pressure on the back of her head while she slept. Stiles quietly settled down next to her after switching off the lamp beside the bed.
“You smell good.” He whispered to her in the dark after a moment.
“I smell like you.” She laughed, “I used your shampoo and your body wash.”
“I know.” He said quietly.
She waited a full minute for him to continue, but he said nothing else. She turned to smile into the pillow before closing her eyes and drifting to sleep.
Tumblr media
Too soon, morning came and they woke to the sound of Stiles’ alarm clock trilling loudly. Amber cracked her eyes open to find herself on her back, head tilted toward where best friend slept beside her.
During the night, one of his arms had been thrown over her chest, his forearm rose and fell in time with each of her breaths where it was laying across her breasts. He was sprawled out on his stomach, pillow tucked over his head, still sleeping soundly with his pillow muffling the obnoxious beeping.
“Stiles.” She groaned loudly, nudging her friend with her leg beneath the duvet, “Turn it off.”
He woke with a snort, moving to push himself upright with one arm against the mattress and the other where it was still pressed to her chest. He reached out a hand and clicked the alarm off.
“Ow,” She gasped, jerking away when his elbow put the brunt of his weight on her left breast, “Boobs, Stiles. Jesus.”
Stiles’ head snapped around to look at her as he pulled his arm away from where it had been digging into her. His eyes were wide, flicking down to her tshirt covered chest quickly before they traveled up to her sleepy face.
“Sorry.”
She sighed in response, reaching a hand up to sleepily cup the injury with a sleepy frown. It didn’t hurt anymore, the pain gone as quickly as it had come, but she covered the breast protectively for a moment anyway out of principle.
“Uh.. How’s your head?” He asked after pulling his eyes away from where her small hand was touching herself through the shirt. His shirt.
“Better than last night. Probably should take something for it before we head out, though.”
When Stiles crawled out of bed, Amber rolled onto her stomach and smothered herself in the pillow he’d been using, taking a deep breath of the scent under the guise of still being tired. She stayed in bed as Stiles went to shower and get dressed, waiting until he returned before she got up to use the bathroom and brush her teeth.
They stopped at Amber’s house before heading to the school so she could change out of her borrowed sleep clothes and get her backpack.
“Fifteen minutes!” Stiles yelled out the window of the Jeep in warning as she ran inside.
“Time me!” She dared over her shoulder.
She ran upstairs to her bedroom, stripping out of Stiles’ clothes and quickly pulling on a pair of jeans and a sweater within two minutes of rushing through the front door.
Using her hair brush, she removed the tangles from the ends of her long, ashy waves, combing through the top with her fingers until her flyaways settled.
Still rushing, she applied deodorant beneath her sweater with one hand and tossed her books into her bag with the other before zipping it shut and throwing it over her shoulder.
The girl ran down the hall to the bathroom and spritzed herself with the perfume on the vanity, fumbling to collect a tube of mascara and her eyelash curler in her hands before jogging back downstairs.
As she passed through the kitchen, she grabbed two apples from the basket hanging on the wall without slowing and continued on until she was out the front door and back at the vehicle where Stiles was waiting.
“Seven minutes.” Stiles told her with an impressed grin as she climbed back into the passenger side of the Jeep. “I think that’s actually a new record.”
She smiled, shoving one of the apples toward his face. She grinned harder when he automatically opened his mouth wide and sunk his teeth into it to take it from her while he backed out of the driveway.
Pulling down the sun visor, she curled her eyelashes and applied mascara quickly before shoving the items into her backpack where it sat on the floor between her feet.
“Dunno how you can do that in a moving car.” Stiles said through a mouthful of fruit, earning a laugh from her in response.
As she grabbed her own apple from where she’d put it for safekeeping between her legs, she looked over to where Stiles was steering the car with his left hand and shifting gears with his right between bites of the fruit. She ate her breakfast as they drove, her eyes bouncing between her friend’s long fingers where they wrapped around the gear shift and his mouth as he munched on his apple, too distracted to notice her ogling.
Stiles was finishing the last bite as he turned into the parking lot at the school, pulling the car into a spot and shutting off the Jeep before he turned to face the girl beside him. “Scott’s got something crazy to show us before class.”
“What?” She asked in confusion, climbing out of the Jeep and pulling her bag over her shoulders as she rounded the car to meet him, “He just told me he wanted to talk. What the hell’s he got to show us?”
Stiles rested a hand at the base of her neck, above her backpack, and guided her as they approached the school.
“Got bit by an animal last night, I guess.” He told her, “Says it’s pretty nasty.”
“Shit.” She said quietly, eyes scanning the bike rack as they passed to see if Scott was there yet, but not seeing his bicycle.
“Deserves it.” Stiles muttered, his hand gliding from her neck over to her opposite shoulder as he wrapped his arm loosely around her, “For leaving you alone in the woods. Hope he has to get a rabies shot and everything.”
“Stiles.” She scolded, “If he got bit by something, I’m pretty sure it happened before he left me.” She said softly, reaching her hand up to pat his where it was curled around her shoulder, “I heard him yell and then he was gone. He was probably in shock.”
“Yeah, well.” Stiles muttered as they came to a stop outside the front of the building to wait for Scott’s arrival, “I stand by what I said.”
She shook her head at him, appreciating the protectiveness, but more concerned about their other friend at the moment.
Only a few minutes passed before Stiles perked up and was releasing her shoulder as Scott came to stand in front of them.
“Okay. Let’s see this thing.” Stiles said excitedly, bouncing on his toes.
They both watched with rapt attention and leaned in close as Scott tugged up his shirt to reveal a large piece of bloody gauze on his side. The size of the bite was significantly bigger than either of them had been expecting. Amber gasped at the sight but Stiles looked absolutely thrilled.
“Ooh!” He said excitedly, reaching out to touch it before getting his hand slapped away by Amber, the girl pulling his hand back and keeping it trapped in her own.
“Yeah. Woah.” Scott said blankly, pulling his shirt back down, “It was too dark to see much, but I’m pretty sure it was a wolf.”
“A wolf bit you?” Stiles questioned incredulously as they slowly walked down the path to the school building.
“Uh-Huh.”
“No,” Stiles said immediately, “Not a chance.”
“I heard a wolf howling.” Scott looked past Stiles’ body to make eye contact with Amber, “Did you hear it?”
“I mean, I don’t know that it was a wolf,” She said slowly, shrugging and shaking her head, “Sorry, Scott.”
“No,” Stiles repeated, looking at Scott, “You didn’t.”
“What do you mean, ‘No I didn’t’? How do you know what I heard?”
“Because California doesn’t have wolves, okay? Not in like sixty years.” Stiles explained, shaking his head. He pulled Amber and himself to a stop as they turned to face Scott at the staircase in front of the school.
“Really?” Both Scott and Amber asked at the same time.
“Yes, Really.” Stiles told them, his eyes bouncing between his two friends. He squeezed Amber’s hand where they were still connected, “There are no wolves in California.”
Amber took in the information and reached down out of habit to check the time on her cell phone, only to find it missing. The pocket of her jeans decidedly empty.
“Stiles, is the Jeep unlocked? I think I left my phone.”
The boy reached his hands deep into the pocket of his jeans and produced his collection of keys, a tiny green bottle opener bright in the jumble of metal. Amber plucked them from his outstretched hand and rushed off without a word to retrieve her phone, only hearing the beginning of what Scott said next.
“Alright, well, if you don’t believe me about the wolf-“
Unlocking the passenger door, she quickly reached in to snatch the device from where it must have slipped out of her pocket and into the seat on the ride to school.
As she made her way back to the building, she fell into step with the beautiful strawberry blonde beside her as she made her way back toward the building, “Hey, Lyds.” Amber smiled, “How was break?”
“Oh the usual," Lydia narrowed her eyes. “We should’ve hung out, though.”
“Soon.” Amber promised her friend as they approached where Scott and Stiles were still in conversation at the bottom of the stairs, the latter’s voice gaining in volume the closer they got.
“-seriously gonna be the best thing that’s happened to this town since.. Since the birth of Amber Callisto.” He finished, catching sight of their friend and grinning at her cutely, “Hey, Amber, you look- Like you’re gonna walk right past me with Lydia.”
The girls passed by, but while Lydia’s eyes remained focused on the path in front of her, Amber shot her best friends a sweet smile over her shoulder, Stiles’ car keys still gripped in her hand.
“You’re whipped, dude.” She thought she heard Scott mutter before hearing what was definitely the sound of someone being hit followed by Scott’s quiet whine of pain.
Amber couldn’t keep the smile off her face at her friend’s antics, shaking her head as she continued to her locker to collect her things for first period. She turned her head when Stiles passed her locker to get down the hall to his own, her eyes glued to the back of his buzzed head as she pulled out her notebook.
She jumped when Scott stepped into her field of vision and blocked her sight of Stiles.
“Hey, I wanted to talk to you alone real quick.” He said, his hands pulling at the straps of his backpack nervously as he avoided her eyes.
“Sure, what’s up?” Amber clamped her notebook between her legs as she reached into her bag to pull out her chemistry textbook to stuff it into her locker where it could stay until third period.
“I just, I wanted to apologize. For last night. I-I don’t really remember getting home, or cleaning up the blood, or even texting you before I fell asleep. It-it’s all kind of a blur.”
“Scott, it’s okay,” She promised, turning her body to face him as she freed up her hands. She reached up to loosely tangle her fingers in the long hair at the side of his head, “You were in shock, okay? I’m not mad at you.”
“Right, I just, I needed to make sure you knew, y’know, that I’d never leave you behind.”
Amber’s grip on his hair tightened and she pressed up into her toes to lean her forehead against his. “I know.” She told him with a smile, knocking their heads together softly before shoving his head away and pulling back to gather her books for English into her arms.
She made her way to the English classroom and slid into her seat, smiling at Stiles where he was sitting at the desk behind her. She pulled out a pencil and tapped it quietly on her desk top as her eyes skimmed over the words printed on the paper in front of her until class started.
Students trickled in slowly, Scott going to his own seat beside Amber. When only a few empty desks remained, Mr. Anderson stood from his chair and moved to begin writing on the blackboard behind his desk.
“As you all know, there indeed, was a body found in the woods last night.” The teacher started, “And I am sure your eager little minds are coming up with various macabre scenarios as to what happened. But I am here to tell you, that the police have a suspect in custody-”
Amber whirled around to face Stiles, Scott doing the same, but the former shook his head. The Sheriff hadn’t even returned home by the time they’d left for school that morning, so there was no way for him to have obtained the information.
“-which means you can give your undivided attention to the syllabus which is on your desk outlining the semester.”
Amber turned to face forward again and slouched in her seat as she looked through the paper Mr. Anderson had left on their desks, reading through the syllabus and jotting down notes in the margins as she went. Her attention was torn away only for a moment to lean her head back and see Stiles with a pen in his teeth, using a yellow highlighter on his own paper. She grinned at him from her upside-down position before returning to her notes.
“Class,” A voice cut through the silence in the classroom, the students all looked to see their Vice Principal standing at the front of the room with a beautiful brunette. “This is our new student, Allison Argent. Please do your best to make her feel welcome.”
The girl, Allison, was nervously fiddling with the end of the thin scarf she had wrapped around her neck. She smiled, looking at the ground and making her way to the back of the room to sit in the seat behind Scott.
Amber watched as Scott turned to face Allison, pen between his fingers in offering. Both girls’ faces clouded in confusion before Allison smiled softly and took the pen from Scott’s outstretched hand.
“Thanks.”
Amber watched in awe at the way Scott continued staring at the new girl for just a moment too long before turning back to face the front of the room with a grin on his face.

“Are you staying to watch tryouts today?” Stiles asked Amber as he came to a stop where she was standing at Scott’s locker later that day after classes ended.
“Yeah, of course.” She told him with a grin, “Gotta watch my boys make first line, don’t I?”
Stiles rolled his eyes, engulfing her face in the palm of his large hand and playfully pushing her head away as she cackled.
“Can someone tell me how ‘new girl’ is here all of five minutes, and she’s already hanging with Lydia’s clique?” A girl from their English class asked as she came to stand behind Stiles.
“Lydia’s really not so bad. She’s a completely different person when you get to know her.” Amber defended.
Stiles ignored his friend and turned to the girl, “Because she’s hot.” He stated, “Beautiful people heard together.” He flicked Amber on the nose after his statement and she furrowed her brows. She rubbed at her nose before leaving them beside Scott’s locker and making her way across the hall where Allison, Jackson, and Lydia were standing.
“Um, I can’t. It’s family night this Friday.” Allison was saying as Amber reached the group, “Thanks for asking.”
“You sure?” Jackson pushed, “Everyone’s going after the scrimmage.”
“You mean like football?” Allison asked innocently, eyes drifting to Amber and smiling.
Amber shook her head at the girl, about to answer when Jackson’s voice cut in again.
“Football’s a joke in Beacon.” He laughed, “The sport here’s lacrosse. We’ve won the state championship for the past three years.”
“Because of a certain captain.” Lydia added, smiling at her boyfriend.
“Takes a whole team to win!” Amber said sweetly, her thoughts drifting to Scott and Stiles warming the bench for the entire season the year before.
Jackson rolled his eyes at her before returning his attention to the new girl, “Well, we have practice in a few minutes. That is, if you don’t have anywhere else-“
“Well I was going to-“
“Perfect!” Lydia interrupted what was likely to be an excuse from Allison, “You're coming.” Lydia and Jackson wandered off down the hallway, leaving Allison stunned in their wake.
“It’s actually kind of fun to watch.” Amber smiled, “I’m going too. You, Lydia, and me can all sit together, if you want. But, if you really don’t want to stay, you don’t have to. Lydia honestly won’t be mad. She doesn’t realize the force behind her own words sometimes.”
“No, I-I’ll stay and watch.” Allison decided.
The two girls caught up with Lydia on their way to the lacrosse field and the three of them settled down on a set of bleachers on the side of the pitch.
Amber smiled and waved when Scott turned to look at where they were sitting, but he paid no attention to his best friend, his eyes glued to the darker-haired brunette beside her. Scott’s gaze was torn away by Coach Finstock throwing a lacrosse stick with a larger net into the boy’s hands along with a new helmet.
“McCall! You’re in goal.” Coach told him.
“I’ve never played.” Amber heard Scott defend, clutching the new stick in his hands.
“I know,” Coach said, “Scoring some shots will give the boys a confidence boost. It’s a first day back thing. Get ‘em energized! Fired up!”
Amber’s shoulders slumped slightly. She knew that Scott had worked his ass off over the last year to try and improve his skills, but he’d never practiced in goal. She was unsure how her friend could attempt to impress the coach if he was being thrown into a new position just to make the rest of the team feel better about themselves.
“What about me?” Scott asked.
“Try not to take any in the face.” Coach supplied, reaching a hand up to slap Scott’s cheek softly before turning to the rest of the players around the field, “Let’s go! Come on!”
Amber rubbed her hands together in an attempt to keep them warm in the cold, winter air of the afternoon. She watched Stiles settle onto the bench, putting his helmet on the ground between his feet. He craned his neck to look for her on the crowded bleachers and grinned when he found her.
Shooting him a thumbs up and a smile, she waved before he turned his attention back to the field. Amber watched Scott make his way into the goal, helmet on his head and the goalie stick clutched in his hands.
“Who’s that?” Allison asked, looking at where Scott was waiting.
“Him?” Lydia asked, “I’m not sure who he is. Why?”
Amber rolled her eyes at her friend, about to cut in when Allison spoke again, sounding self-conscious.
“He’s, just- He’s in our English class.”
Allison turned her attention to Amber in question and Amber smiled at the girl’s lack of subtlety before the whistle blew loudly, interrupting them.
Their attention went to the field and Amber watched Scott in confusion as he clutched at his ears over the thick plastic that covered them. He looked like he was in pain and Amber rose slightly from her seat, debating going over to check on her friend.
Before she could move, another player walked toward the goal, stopping ten yards away and lobbing the ball as hard as he could at her friend. Amber flinched when Scott immediately took the ball to the head. It thunked loudly against the plastic of his helmet before he fell to the ground in the goal. Players on the field laughed at his pain and Amber slumped back to a seated position with a frown, seeing Stiles make a similar movement where he sat on the bench in front of them.
“Hey, way to catch with your face, McCall!” Someone on the field yelled.
Scott began to pull himself up, getting ready for the next player.
“Scott McCall.” Amber finally recovered enough to tell Allison, leaning close to give a small amount of privacy from Lydia. “He’s one of my best friends. Very much single.. Y’know, if you’re interested.”
Allison blushed and smiled, but refused to look at the face of the girl sitting next to her.
Another player ran up on the goal, throwing the ball to the left corner and straight into the net of Scott’s stick.
“Yes!” Amber squeaked in excitement.
Scott looked at the ball he was holding for a moment as if surprised he’d caught it at all.
“Yeah!” Stiles called out after a few seconds had passed, turning to look at Amber behind him for a moment and also wearing a look of pleased surprise on his face.
The third player in line rushed forward, shooting the ball low at Scott’s feet, but the ball was again, miraculously stopped from reaching the goal by Scott’s stick.
Stiles and Amber both yelped in surprise, the latter’s hands going above her head as she squealed excitedly.
Scott proceeded to catch every ball that was thrown at him, letting no goals pass as his friends watched on in amazement.
“He seems like he’s pretty good.” Allison observed.
“Yeah, very good.” Lydia agreed, impressed.
“He’s been practicing like crazy.” Amber supplied, unable to wipe the proud grin off her face.
They all watched as Jackson stepped forward, moving to the front of the line and readying himself for a shot. His feet came off the ground as he launched the ball toward the goal.
Scott caught that one too.
Stiles shot out of his seat when he yelled, his arms outstretched as he spun to look at the people around them, ensuring that they’d all seen the save.
“That is our friend!” Stiles announced loudly, looking toward Amber on the bleachers and pointing to where Scott was standing on the field. She nodded at him with an incredulous laugh.
Scott was good.

“You sure you alright out there?”
“Yes I’m fine,” you giggle. “I’m in a completely renovated and furnished cabin with internet and surprisingly good service-,”
“That’s in the woods with no one else,” Selene, your best friend, adds making you roll your eyes. She, along with your parents, tried getting you to change your mind about journeying up to those foreign woods inhabited by dangerous animals and who knows.
None of this made you falter though, still eager to get to the waiting rental home surrounded by trees and much needed quiet.
The daily cycle of work, home, then work again was weighing on you enough that you knew a break was needed. Especially before the quickly approaching holiday season filled with the unnecessary stresses of gift shopping and visiting family member after family member. And yes you easily could’ve opted for an ornate resort on a warm island with endless sun and salt in the air, but there was also something beautiful—and highly undervalued—about having a front row seat to experience fall, and all it’s adjoining accessories, in such a raw setting.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” you state sliding your backpack on your shoulders as you head towards the door. “Call you when I get back, okay?”
“You better.”
Leaves and Earth crunching below your sneakers, you allow your mind to let go of any stresses currently plaguing your mind and aim your focus on what’s around you. Oaks and pines seemingly touching the heavens, while the sky begins its shift from serene blue to a mixture of pink and orange creating a golden hue to shine on everything in its wake. Birds soaring high as the squirrels bound from branch to branch either playing with another or in search of tonight’s dinner.
A small smile even spreads across your lips catching a small, beige rabbit planted in a patch of grass as it’s jaw twitched chewing on the dandelion partially hanging from its mouth.
“Aren’t you cute,” you whisper crouching down to find another dandelion beside you. “This your favorite? Hm?”
Keeping your hand as steady as possible, you slowly try to approach the woodland creature being as gentle as the breeze. It’s long ear flicks as it’s head turns. Little paws close to its white chest while it stands peering at you with beady eyes.
“It’s okay. Here, I’ll leave it. Don’t wanna make you nervous.”
Squat down with knees pressed against your chest, they cover your mouth helping you to contain your excitement watching your new bunny friend inch closer cautiously sniffing the ground. It’s nearly in range to bite down on the dandelion’s stem before the loud snap of a twig has it quickly hopping away and your head turning in every direction as you stand. Silence returns but only for a few seconds before there’s another snap along with the rustle of leaves.
Throat turning dry and heart thudding in your chest, your hands instinctively wrap tighter around the straps of your bag. “H-Hello?!,” you call out into the open air.
It’s quiet again. Eerily so as you take a slow step backwards in the direction you came from still actively searching all around for the culprit.
Maybe it was just a deer?
A deep growl tells you otherwise, giving your legs all the motivation they’d ever need to move.
The designated path is forgotten letting your feet carry you in whatever direction felt right, weaving around thick trunks and trying to evade the extra set of steps crunching close behind. You dare not look back, simply focused on getting away from whatever was breathing just as hard behind you, and hoping your stamina didn’t run out anytime soon.
Then you’re stuck.
Your ankle tightly bound by a rope trap cleverly hidden among the dirt and fallen leaves that yanks your leg so hard you fall back with a scream. Head thudding against the cool ground before your body is dragged and pulled upward along an oak until you’re helplessly dangling upside down. The ringing in your ears and pounding of your head make it hard to fight for escape, or fight the impending unconsciousness creeping in no matter how hard you tried to keep moving.
You can only whimper briefly meeting the golden eyes and sharp teeth bared as it snarls mere centimeters from your pained face. The warm air from its nostrils fanning your across your skin before all you see is darkness.
-
When you come to, you’re body is covered in a thick blanket as you lie on a foreign dark brown couch in an unknown living room. From what you could see, there was nothing lining the walls besides the dark wood planks that made up the home. No framed pictures, no decorations. Just a lone clock that ticked with every passing second.
It’s hard to sit up from the soreness in your back and slight dizziness in your head making you wince as you hold the cool rag to your head.
“Hey, take it slow,” a deep voice instructs startling you deeper into the couch’s back cushions.
Almond strands resting at his nape, his deep blue eyes were concerned as his muscular body neared closer to you. His large hands in front of him in surrender seeing you unsuccessfully try to scurry to the other side of the couch.
“I’m not gonna hurt you. My name’s Ari, I found you in the woods and brought you back here.”
You’re quiet as you study him. His burgundy flannel tight on his arms and opened to show the white tank underneath. His dark jeans over his equally thick thighs and cuffs resting over his work boots.
“Can you tell me your name?”
“…Y-Y/N.”
“That’s very pretty,” he smiles, and you could’ve sworn the room doubled its brightness.
“…w-what happened? And where is here?,” you shyly ask.
“Looks like you got caught in a hunter’s trap. Your ankle’s a bit scratched up and I’m guessing you knocked your head pretty good too. May I?”
Gently kneeling, he searches your nervous eyes for permission before reaching for your ankle to check under your bandage. His palms are rough from handiwork, but touch surprisingly careful and smooth like a feather caressing against one’s skin. You can’t seem to look away from his rugged face concentrated on dressing your wound, and his long lashes beautifully resting on the tops of his lightly freckled cheeks.
“And here, is my cabin. Where are you staying?”
“A cabin,” you answer, wincing as he carefully placed your ankle down. “Can’t remember the number though.”
“Are you up here with someone?”
“No, i-it’s just me.”
Ari lightly nods meeting your eyes again before standing to retrieve a backpack from the far corner of the room, “You had this on when I found you. Maybe there’s something inside that might help.”
Unzipping the front pocket, you find a set of keys and your cellphone displaying unread messages and a couple missed calls from your parents.
Hey it’s been over an hour, everything good? (sent 7:53 pm)
Y/N? Cmon this isn’t funny (sent 9:10 pm)
Ok, for my sanity I’m assuming you ate then went to bed and forgot to text me you got in…again😒 (sent 9:27 pm)
If I don’t hear anything by tomorrow afternoon, I’m calling the cops I swear to God (sent 9:28 pm)
Looking at the time, it’s a little after 10 the next day.
“Okay?,” he asks setting a bottle of water down on the table beside you.
Nodding, you turn your phone to show him the address sent in one of your earlier messages. “This is where I’m staying. Cabin 535.”
“You’re just a ways up the road then,” he softly smiles. “We can leave in a few minutes.”
-
“Don’t ever scare me like that again!,” Selene speaks through the phone. As soon as you entered the foyer, with the help of Ari’s thick arm around your waist, your phone vibrated with an incoming call showing the picture of you and your best friend laughing side by side.
You’re honestly surprised you weren’t already met with at least one squad car knowing how worried sick she was.
“I was minutes away from calling the cops and driving up there myself.”
“I’m sorry. I meant to call but then I hit my head-,”
“Wait, hit your head? What happened? You okay?”
“Yea I’m fine. Apparently there was a hunter’s trap-,”
“Apparently? You don’t remember?”
There’s a few seconds of silence as you bite the nail on your thumb looking down at your lap before a soft “no” slips past your lips.
“Okay, probable concussion. Are you hurt anywhere else?”
“Just sore on my back. My ankle’s scraped up a little. I promise I’m okay though! Ari found me and brought me back to his cabin-,”
“Ari? Who’s that?”
“He’s a guy that lives a few minutes away,” you answer turning to gaze at the man standing on your backporch leaning against the wooden post. His back facing you as smoke wisps from his lips to the cool air following the latest drag from his cigarette.
“And this guy just miraculously found you?,” she asks with a twinge of skepticism.
“Well yea, he said he was on a walk and I was just hanging there unconscious. He seems really nice.”
“So did Ted Bundy and Jeffery Dahmer,” she replies under her breath. “Listen, stay in your cabin alright? I’m gonna try to get up there to bring you back home.”
“Selene-,”
“Nothing you say will stop me from coming Y/N. You’re hurt with amnesia, you don’t need to be alone.”
You knew her words were true. And with her mind set, there’s nothing more you can do except sit there in silence until she was done.
“And don’t let him back in. Hear me?” It’s ironic how at that same moment, his large figure steps through the sliding glass door returning to your kitchen. He lifts the corners of his mouth in a soft smile causing your own to follow shortly after.
Ari had taken care of you, bandaged your wounds, and made sure you were comfortable since finding you. How could someone so sweet possibly be bad?
“You say it like he’s bad,” you mumble loud enough for only her to hear.
“Because he might be! For all we know, he’s the one who set that trap.” Again, then why treat you so nice? “I’ll call you later okay? Be careful and stay inside.”
Setting your phone down, your fingers meet your temples trying to rub away the little ache forming as you quietly grimace. How long was this supposed to last? It was gonna be a bit difficult trying to do for yourself when you could hardly keep your eyes open for too long.
“You should rest,” Ari says handing you a bottle of ibuprofen, which you graciously took. “Someone coming for you?”
“My friend said she would try.”
“Well, I’ll tell you now, if she’s not here by the weekend she’s not makin’ it,” he states stuffing his hands in his jacket pockets. “Storm’s headed this way, which means the roads are gonna be flooded or closed.”
“Oh..”
He barely knew you, but watching the worry set in your body as your arms wrapped around your middle brought this protectiveness out of him wanting to take away your fears any way he could.
“You’ll be fine,” he speaks trying to ease your mind—and that little voice in his own concerned about you being alone in your condition.
“Stay inside, and if things start looking bad the day of, get to your bathroom and lie down in the tub.” Nodding your head, he can still see how uneasy you are from the way you chew on your plump bottom lip.
He has to mentally check himself that he doesn’t stare too long at such a simple yet distracting habit that had him shamefully curious if it tasted as good as you made it seem.
It came to pass that Selene wasn’t able to make it to you in time due to work and the incoming weather, as Ari said. So the days that followed, you heeded their instruction on staying in. You’d wake up, eat breakfast, then watch tv until Ari would knock at the door announcing his presence. He’d always hand you a bit of extra food from what he’d made the night before—making sure you had something to eat for the day—stored in a medium sized Tupperware before going to the bed of his truck to unload more firewood for you. You were pretty sure you had enough since you didn’t use the fireplace every day, but you were still thankful for his generosity.
Admittedly, you didn’t believe him when he first told you he was a lumberjack, never having met one in real life. You’d only ever heard of them in fairytales and the occasional ad for the newest pick-up truck with all wheel drive and other irresistible features every man just had to have.
He deeply chuckled when you told him that, flashing his pearly whites as the corners of his eyes wrinkled in the cutest way.
“Well, I’m your proof we’re definitely real sweetheart.”
It was the first time he’d used the term with you, and the way it sparked tingles through your body and warmed your cheeks had you addicted already.
He’d stay for a while talking with you and making sure you were okay before leaving close to nightfall with the promise of returning the next day if he could. It was like clockwork how he’d gather his things and put on his coat just as golden hour had dimmed from its brightest hue. Then you were back to the silence of the two story cabin with all its creaks and echoes of the whistling wind.
Something that was once craved now unwanted wishing for the extended company of your rescuer.
-
“What’s this?” Following you inside, he notices the table set for two with dark green bowls neatly sat on chocolate brown placemats. A spoon besides each along with a folded napkin and glass, while steam twirled from the bubbling pot partially covered on the stove.
“Well you always bring me food, so I thought I’d return the favor,” you smile shyly motioning to everything you set up. “And it’s my thank you for everything you’ve done.”
By the weekend you were much better. Your ankle now able to move without any sense of pain and only lightly bruised along with your back. Your headaches—although still plaguing—not as frequent, allowing you more hours in the day that you could comfortably be up and out of bed.
Ari was happy to see you walking about with the help of his healing hands. Plus that twinkle in your eye as you proudly showed him the fading marks had him smiling brighter than he had in a while. Deep down there was an ache in his heart though knowing soon you’d have to leave; possibly never returning.
The first person he’d actually connected with gone seemingly just as soon as you came. Lips curling into a small smile as you place the full bowl in front of him, he ultimately knew that’s how it had to be. Why it had worked all these years and continued to do so.
It was safer.
“You didn’t have to go through all this trouble.”
The tomato base of the vegetable stew was the first to find home in his nostrils making him pleasantly hum. It’s added spice of pepper, and maybe cayenne, wasn’t overpowering as it tingled his tongue and caused his mouth to water. Vegetables fresh as if you’d picked them this morning, it was the best dish he’d tasted in years.
“It was no trouble, I just hope it’s fit to eat,” you nervously giggle sitting beside him with your own filled bowl.
Fit to eat? If he was by himself, he’d shame the wildest of dogs from how quick his face would sink into the bowl loudly chewing and slurping; surely spilling juice everywhere that he’d happily lick up later.
“It’s perfect.” Just like you. “Thank you.”
-
Throughout the day, more and more bulletins flashed across the television screen and your phone regarding the incoming storm. Warnings of definite wind damage and flooding along with lightning as they urged those to be effected to stay safe and make sure they had their needed supplies. The wind already picking up and moving the trees with more force as sprinkles of rain tapped against the window and roof.
By sunset, roads were closed and those nearby were encouraged to head inside, if they hadn’t already, and not leave unless in the event of an emergency. You watched, with disheartened eyes, Ari sigh as he stood knowing what would come next. The words that would slip from his pink lips you didn’t want to hear, especially not tonight.
“I uh better get goin’. Before it gets too bad,” he states walking towards the door with you on his heels.
“Y-Yea, okay.”
Your quieter tone catches him first before he turns to find you downcast with arms securely wrapped around you.
“What’s wrong? Is it your head?”
“No no it’s fine. I just..” The back and forth in your head was tiring debating on whether it was best to say something or leave it be.
“Just what sweetheart?” God, the power of his drawl.
“I…I don’t wanna be alone tonight,” you whisper. He sighs once more scratching his smooth beard. He shouldn’t stay. He can’t stay. No matter how much his heart willed him to take off his boots and join you on the couch or wherever you wanted to be.
“..I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he whispers back. Your gaze falls to the floor making him so badly want to lift your chin and bring you closer. Instead, he stands there watching you awkwardly shift from one foot to the other as his rejection sinks in.
“Oh…I understand.” You didn’t. And it made him all the more frustrated he couldn’t explain. “I-I’m sorry I didn’t mean to-,”
“You didn’t. Promise.” His hand itches to reach out to you—even slightly twitching at his side—but he figures it’s best to keep to himself.
The silence is nearly deafening as you both stand there not really sure of what to say or do next. It’s not until the distant rumble of thunder that you get the push you needed. Shoving the embarrassment of potentially looking pushy deep down while moving towards the kitchen to retrieve the Tupperware bowl filled with leftover stew.
“In case you get hungry.” Your small smile doesn’t quite reach your eyes as you hold out the warm container towards him.
At first he doesn’t move, just continuing to peer at you with those gentle yet piercing cerulean gaze and making your heart begin to sink until his palm hesitantly hovers over the side of your neck. Your own lack of movement or protest tells him it’s okay to make contact with your skin as his thumb grazes just under your bottom lip. Then he steps closer. Leaning in until his nose gently brushed against yours to finally meet your lips.
It was like he was testing the waters from how his lips slowly glided along yours; taking his time to truly savor your taste and the feel of your mouth on his. Your arms around his neck invite him closer pressing his brawny body against yours. His hands cautiously wander until they can grip your bottom making you softly gasp and lips part enough that his waiting tongue can explore as well.
His hands pull your legs to wrap around his hips carrying you to the couch after the bowl is long forgotten on the counter. Your lips left swollen as he moves to your neck sucking and nibbling the heated flesh there as you try to catch your breath. Sat straddling his lap, you easily feel his bulge crying to break free against your throbbing center causing your hips to gently buck and grind needing more.
From his muffled groan and hands gripping your hips tighter, so did he.
A quiet whine emanates from your throat when Ari pulls away with swollen, red lips himself. His eyes shades darker from his blown pupils as he’s quick to remove his red flannel and then his white tee to expose his sculpted chest and arms etched with hidden tattoos.
You can’t seem to look away from the large laceration on his left pec though, spanning from his collarbone to the tip of his sternum. Now a mix of pink and red with scar tissue, your finger slowly slides over the slightly raised skin before looking up with curious eyes.
He shyly grins massaging your thigh with one hand as the other caresses your cheek. “Bar fight much younger and dumber me just couldn’t walk away from. Didn’t realize he had a knife until I was down on the ground with a sliced and bloodied shirt.”
It was possibly a dumb question, but you had to ask, “Does it still hurt?”
“I’m fine sweetheart,” he smiles. Thumb gliding along your lips again before you lean down to peck along the curved marking as far as you could reach. Ari’s soft hum as he rubs your back, and your lips creep along his skin, is as soothing as the ocean’s waves having you wanting to stay in this little bubble of intimacy with him for as many days to come.
Your top is next to go, then your jeans with the help of his pretty fingers you couldn’t wait to have on you again. He takes his time tracing from the dip at the bottom of your throat down your sternum and across the top lace of your bra, leaving shivers down your spine, until his fingertips tease the band of your panties noticeably soaked at this rate.
“Is this okay?,” he asks pausing to look in your eyes. Head tilted down slightly to make sure he didn’t miss any cues. You gently nod your head as you unhook your bra, letting Ari slide the straps down until you’re completely exposed.
He must be a mind reader how quick he whispers, “You’re so beautiful. You know that right?,” as if sensing how being under his intense gaze in such a vulnerable position made part of you want to shrink away. Long harbored insecurities beginning to creep along the dark corners of your mind even though you eagerly wanted the man below you.
He doesn’t take kindly to your silence this time meeting your lips a tad rougher than before as he stands from the couch to carry you towards the bedroom. It’s as if he was trying to transfer all the adoration he had onto you to erase the words of whatever idiot made you unsure of yourself.
To stop you from ever questioning yourself again.
As soon as your back hits the colorful quilt, his mouth is journeying along the map of your body taking detours here and there as he enjoys each and every stop until he’s satisfied and sure he reached each spot of its surface. Being so close to your center, your scent overpowers his senses snapping something in his brain that has him easily ripping your cotton underwear and the prettiest moan he’s ever heard slipping past your lips as your fingers tangle in his hair.
His skilled tongue and thick fingers have you embarrassingly close already unable to do anything but moan and whimper as your back begins to arch. The added vibrations of his grunts and own moans against your sensitive bundle pushing you closer and closer until he’s drinking down everything your body has to give while you pant, trying to catch your breath as you scratch his scalp.
Ari’s not done though, sinking back in needing more of you on his skin, his beard, practically flooding his nostrils with your essence so he’d never go without.
“Sweetest thing I’ve ever tasted,” he mumbles against your thigh as his fingers pick up their pace until you’re back where you started.
The way he was able to manipulate and shift your body to different positions, he could’ve easily sought out only his pleasure not caring if you were satisfied. But this was the same man who brought you back to his cabin to care for your wounds. Made sure you were safe and closely monitored your progress coming to check on you everyday. You’re not surprised how he listens to your body creating a personal relationship with it just as he did you.
He took in every clench and shudder. Every clutch of your hand around his bicep and fiery scratch left by your nails. Even every curl of your toes leading to the cutest “o” of your full lips to have you a babbling mess and body wrung to exhaustion. Strings of “please”, “don’t stop”, and “right there” the only words dripping from your lips followed by chants of his name.
And how could he not comply when you asked so nicely, and with twinkling tears of ecstasy flowing from your eyes? His numerous praises only adding to that pleasure referring to you as “perfect” and, your favorite, “his pretty girl”.
You can tell he’s close when his relentless pace stutters. His mouth on your shoulder to muffle the curses and animal like growl that overtakes his body as he holds your sweaty back close to his front. A sharp prick breaking your skin makes you cry out in pain before it’s quickly soothed by his warm tongue. His release—strangely lasting longer and thicker than you’ve ever experienced—steadily warming and filling you until you’re tensing again for the third, or fourth, time tonight before you’re body feels as if it would float away if not for Ari holding you to him.
You feel his wet lips on you again showing just as much attention to your back, shoulders, and further south that he did to your front before the bed gently dips and his footsteps pad towards the bathroom. The last thing you remember being his gentle hands cleaning you with a wet rag as your hazy mind fought to squirm away.
“I know, I’m sorry. Promise I’m almost done,” he whispers before his lips sweetly find yours again. Then you’re pulled into his warm chest as his muscular arm drapes over you like a weighted blanket further bringing you closer to the sleep you needed.
-
Your incessant shivering is what ruins your once peaceful rest, making you rise prematurely. It’s definitely too early for your liking still seeing the moon occasionally peek through in the onyx sky. Heavy rain continued to fall as gusts of wind knocked against the newly placed French doors making them shake ever so slightly.
Reaching behind you, you don’t feel the body once there causing you to sit up clutching the thin sheet to your bare chest pebbled and covered in goosebumps. It feels as if it’s getting colder by the second leading you to believe the storm must’ve knocked out the power. Maybe that’s where he went?
Scooting closer to the side of the bed, you crane your neck trying to listen for any sign of movement but everything in the house is still.
“Ari!?,” your strained voice calls, but you get no response. Just a flash of lightning and rumble of thunder that’s gotten closer since earlier this evening. You gingerly slide out of bed—still sore from your earlier rounds—to get a pair of your sweats and a sweatshirt to cover yourself before moving towards the living room.
There you find the same; more silence as you carefully maneuvered about the dark space confused and concerned. A particularly intense draft catches your attention turning your head towards the flowing sheer curtain and cracked door leading to the porch now partially slick with water as it continued to be battered. “Ari?,” you called again from its sheltered portion now armed with a flashlight that shined outward to the trees swaying and shimmying in the rough weather.
Maybe Selene was right all along about Ari. That he couldn’t be trusted, and you should’ve just kept the door locked forbidding him passage into your residence let alone your heart. And maybe you weren’t the first helpless stranger he’s offered his assistance to? Instead now a number on a list spanning however long as he charmed his way to his next victim.
“No..h-he wouldn’t,” you whisper to yourself feeling a crack begin to extend along the surface of your heart.
Your pity party is cut short hearing the crack of a tree limb before it eventually fell to the damp ground with a thud. Another snap and you’re scanning the small yard hoping it’s just the storm causing these sounds and nothing more.
Then your blood is running cold and air hitching in your throat seeing a set of glowing red eyes staring directly at you. They only seem to follow as you slowly try to retreat back inside—hand tightly gripping the door’s handle—until you see what looks like the menacing smirk of the creature in question. It’s ash grey fur weighed down by the rain and paws firm against the ground as it creeped closer towards the light with teeth gleaming and some form of liquid dripping from its curled lips. You’re not sure if it was rain water, saliva, or maybe a mix of both.
You try to will yourself to run inside and lock the door behind you but with the wolf-like being’s height reaching up to your waist and both legs and arms protruding large masses of muscle as it stepped closer, you were sure it could probably tear down any door or wall in its way.
You crouch down accepting your fate just as the nails of its paw are about to tap against the wooden deck when a fast blur shoves it into the dirt. It snaps and growls inches from the other’s face before they’re wrestling on hind legs. Swiping and biting as they seemingly compete with the thunder on who could be loudest.
Finally your legs are able to move, helping you quickly crawl into the cabin on the safer side of the door. Back pressed against the side of the island, your chest heaves as you struggle to calm your breathing. Could you even call for help? The roads were blocked and or flooded with all the rain, so no one could come up even if they tried. Then again, would they even believe you? They’d probably laugh in your face or tell you to stop wasting their time before angrily disconnecting.
Although frightened, you can’t look away from the two beasts rolling around and surely drawing blood from the other as they compete for dominance. Eventually, you see this new creature—larger than the other in both height and muscle—standing over its competitor’s weakened form before it’s snarling a last bite into it’s arm making it yelp into the surrounding forest with an echo. It rises shortly after growling lowly and slowly sauntering back in the woods where it came from.
Whether it wanted to or not, it had no choice but to surrender.
The victor keeps its eyes trained on the path making sure the other doesn’t try to come back. It’s body still tense and ears pointed ready for another bout if needed. Then it’s turning towards the cabin with eyes on you.
Those same golden eyes bringing you back to your hike all those days ago, finally able to remember everything. Your chase through the woods. The rope against your leg before you were upside down practically bait for the animal now outside or any other that passed by.
It’s features are softer now—dare you say apologetic or sorrowful even—taking one hesitant step forward then retreating back two. A small puff of smoke cast from its nostrils as the warm air meets the cool night. It’s head nods upwards a couple times making your own tilt in confusion.
Was it…telling you to go?
Turning it’s head with a twitch of it’s ear, a sinking feeling forms in the pit of your stomach noticing the all too familiar scar on it’s chest. Though surrounded by more hair, it was unmistakable with its placement and nearly crescent shape.
“Nonono that’s crazy,” you think to yourself slowly scooting towards the door placing your hands on the cool glass in front of you.
It made sense though the more you thought.
How Ari knew where to find you even though you were well off course from the designated trail in the middle of nowhere, and possibly why he’d been so nice and caring these past few days.
Turning back towards you, it’s as if he knows what you’re thinking seeing the conflict in your deep brown eyes and across your brows as he steadily steps forward until he’s on the deck leaving paw prints in his wake. His nose tapping the glass where your hand sat, smearing it with the water from its surface.
“Ari..”

Only Angel
Chris Evans x actress!reader
Word count : 781 words
Summary : Chris gets jealous of you talking about Harry Styles all the time.
Warnings : fluff, mention of anxiety
A/N : Here I am with a small blurb for you all. If you ever want to speak to me, ask me something, request something or just vent, please feel free to message me! I love you all xxx
English is not my first language, so if I made any grammar mistakes, I apologize! Hope you guys enjoy:)
I do NOT give permission for my work to be translated or reposted on here or any other site.
It was getting colder and darker in Boston; leaves were falling from the trees. There was a chill in the air overnight, frost on the ground in the morning, and mist and fog in the air. Dry, dead leaves crunched beneath your feet and clouds appeared when you breathed out. Yes, fall was finally here. It was Chris’ favorite season. He loved spending Sunday mornings in bed with you while he watched leaves falling from the trees. He loved seeing you play with dodger when you guys went for a morning walk. He loved the noises you made when he tickled you on his couch. He loved how you made him Halloween treats, even if it wasn’t officially Halloween yet. What he didn’t love was that you kept bringing Harry Styles up all the time.
“ Babe, can you open ‘Only Angel’ from Harry Styles on my phone? My hands are dirty!” you yelled from the kitchen while making cookies for the two of you. Chris sighed at your ask and opened the song for you. He knew it was your favorite song. When Harry sang, he could see you smiling widely, which made him mad and insecure. What was so special about him? Sure, he was a few years younger than him, and yeah, he was handsome with an amazing voice and body, but he was Chris Evans for god’s sake. He had one thing that no other male had. America’s ass.
“Why do you like Harry Styles so much?” He asked while your hands were still dirty.
“Excuse me?”
“I mean, what is it you like so much? We’re in the car, you open Harry Styles. You’re cooking, you’re listening to Harry Styles. You’re in the shower, you’re singing his songs. Even at family gatherings, you keep talking about his songs and how much you want to see him in real life. I mean, what is so special about this dude?”
You couldn’t help but laugh at your boyfriend, who had a serious look on his face. Was he jealous?
“ I just think that he is a brilliant singer. I love his songs. They helped me through a lot, you know. He is kind, caring, and sweet towards his fans and he is a feminist. What’s not to like?”
Your answer scared Chris a little. Were you into him? Everyone knew that you and Chris had an age gap between you, too, but it was never a problem. You loved him and he loved you. You and Harry were the same age. Even the thought of you leaving him for someone else made his heartbeat go faster.
“That’s it? You won’t find him, I don’t know handsome or anything?” He asked you almost in a whisper. You dropped the dough in the bowl next to you, washed your hands, and took Chris’ face in your hands. You looked into his deep blue eyes with admiration and saw the anxiety creeping up on him.
“Chris, honey, listen to me carefully. I’m gonna say this to you one time, okay? I love you. I love you because you are the owner of my best times. Even the brief moments I spend with you are unforgettable. I don’t want it to end. And if you’re not with me? That’s when the minutes stop flowing. It turns into torture to endure time. I love you because with you I rediscover life every day. You always offer me something to discover every day. I become the tireless explorer of breathless adventures of exploration. I love you because I don’t feel like doing anything else and I enjoy feeling this feeling for the first time in my life.Your love didn’t fit anywhere. It fits in my heart alone. Now it doesn’t fit in my heart either and it’s leaking from my eyes. The only thing I wish is that you could see the love I have for you in them, Chris. I love you. All of you.”
Chris couldn’t help himself but grab you and kiss you on your lips. His hands moved to your waist and pulled him against you, while yours went to his neck. Chris and you kept making out until your lips were swollen. When he released you, he didn’t speak. He was busy drinking all the love that was leaking from your eyes. And you said nothing because you were busy drinking the love that he had for you that was leaking out of his eyes. You both loved each other so much, that everything else was forgotten. Even Harry styles.

words: 3,585 ship: austin butler x reader  summary: (request) readers friends are obsessed with austin and reader meets austin out and about. austin is intrigued by the reader's lack of interest and is determined to get to know you notes: first request, really excited. thank you! if you do not see your request posted, I promise it’s coming. My writing takes time and I appreciate the patience xo  warning: none  tag list: if you’d like to be added to any of my requested austin x reader fics, please let me know :)
Tipping your head back towards the sky, you take a deep breath into your lungs as you exit the theater with your two best friends. Seeing Elvis for the third time is beginning to grate on your nerves—don’t get it wrong, the movie is incredible. The acting, the costumes, the music, all of it, ten out of ten, you just don’t need to see a film more than twice in theaters. Your friends are giggling like schoolgirls over the lead, Austin, and well—right, he’s definitely pretty but you don’t understand the hype. You don’t think you’ve really seen him in much before this.
“You two are beginning to sound borderline stalker-ish.” You tease over your shoulder, Marie reaching for your arm and forcing you to walk with them.
“I don’t want to hear it; you’ve watched tons of things over again for your favorite actor. What about Charlie Hunnam?”
You let out a soft breath that flutters your hair, “We don’t talk about Charlie.”
Paige grins, putting a hand through her strawberry-blonde strands, “Well that’s fine because we want to talk about Austin. Can you imagine the physical endurance he had to have to pull off all those movements? Performances?”
Marie grins, “Oh so we’re talking about his stamina?”
You roll your eyes even though you’re smiling as you head back to the car with them. It’s not that you don’t think Austin Butler isn’t attractive, he is, and obviously very gifted and talented. And maybe it goes beyond him being your type or not—sometimes it’s just hard to think about things other than what you’ve been going through recently. That’s what heading to the movies was supposed to be for, an escape, your best friends dragging you out of your apartment despite the fact that you’ve seen this film already.
But they know you need the extra support and you love them for that.
Your past breakup has been rough, moreso than you ever imagined it was capable of being. Just…the person you thought you’d been in love with for seven years turned out to be a completely different man. He was a cheater, a liar, and abusive—not necessarily physically, but definitely emotionally.
You’re working on building a better space for yourself, but it hasn’t been easy. You suppose anything worth it rarely is, but sometimes it’s hard to think about anything else. Shaking those thoughts loose, you get into your car as Marie and Paige continue to talk about their favorite scenes from the movie—describing them in detail as if they’re not going to visit the theater for a fourth time.
You smile a little as you start the engine, pulling out of the parking spot—you guess there’s really nothing better than an escape, especially when it involves a very handsome actor named Austin.
--
It’s a beautiful Fall day, the kind of season that feels like it might be snuggle worthy even in the sunlight. Crisp, crunching leaves, the end of summer passing along it’s final rays of heat. This is your favorite type of weather, right before it gets too cold. You can wear jeans, booties and a t-shirt with a jacket and have zero concerns. Not to mention it’s ideal to sit outside with a cup of coffee…which is your reward for getting grocery shopping done today. You push the cart around the aisles of Whole Foods, crinkling your nose at the selection they’ve got for most items because…it seems a little bare in some spots. Definitely in that time slot of restocking shelves.
No matter, you’ll make do with what you get and then come back another day this week to grab anything you might be missing. Surveying your cart, you’re pretty much done except for your favorite cereal, so you turn the cart in that direction and pause amongst the boxes.
Maple Clusters—literally one of your favorite things. Add a little extra cinnamon and honey? Ugh, with a cup of coffee it’s damn near perfect. And that’s something you never like to say often—that something is perfect, because you’ve learned the hard way that nothing ever is.
You let out a slow breath, moving down the aisle and spotting the box you need on the top shelf. Abandoning your cart, you walk to grab it, arm raised—
And someone else snatches it right before you can. You blink, looking over at the taller guy who has your Maple Clusters in his clutches. He seems to sense you standing there, because he turns slightly and blinks, looking down at the box.
“Sorry, were you goin’ for this?”
For some reason he looks wickedly familiar, like you’ve seen him in this store before or…maybe just around. New York is one of those places where you can run into the same ten people out and about over the course of a month—which sounds like it makes zero sense until you live here.
You hesitate for a moment, taking him in, tall, boyish charm with blue eyes that are only brightened by the curls of his dirty blonde hair and the jean jacket sherpa he’s wearing. Attractive? Yes. Annoying? Also yes.
“I was,” You lick your lips, “It’s the best cereal they have.”
There’s a hint of a smile on his face as he turns to face you, still holding onto the box between his hands. “I know,” There’s a sort of drawl to his tone, a deeper octave that maybe you weren’t expecting. It almost seems like it doesn’t quite go with his face, body, something learned. “That’s why I grabbed it.”
You narrow your eyes, attempting to grab anything else that you might be able to barter with. “Okay—there are plenty of decent second options here. Strawberry Oats, got little yogurt pieces in there,” The guy’s face takes on this amused twist, watching as you try to argue which cereal he should buy instead so you can have the one in his hands.
You notice he’s wearing rings on his slender fingers too which is…definitely not a negative, but not the point, either.
“Here and this one? Chocolate.” You wave the box for emphasis, “Who doesn’t love chocolate?”
“I dunno, do you? Seems like if you’re gonna argue for these cereals, you should just go head and buy ‘em.”
Heat kisses your cheeks and splotches down your neck, “No—I’m saying you should get one of them and surrender the Maple box.”
“I was here first.”
“Your arms are longer.”
A soft laugh rumbles out of his chest, a crinkle to the corners of his eyes. Now not only is he amused but there’s something else there, lingering in the blue of his irises. One of his hands runs through his hair before slipping along his jaw, like he’s in thought over this cereal. You are almost petty enough to grab the box and run, but you’ve got a whole cart to check out with and don’t want to end up running into him again.
Part of you knows that this is not worth it, arguing about cereal with a stranger (yet an attractive one) in the middle of Whole Foods. But…the Maple Clusters are definitely just a staple to healthy routines you’re building for yourself and you don’t want to wait later in the week to see if it’s restocked.
“What about a trade?”
You blink—wasn’t that exactly what you were saying? You slowly reach out to grab the Strawberry Oats box to hand off to him and he shakes his head,
“Nah—I meant; I’ll give you the cereal if I can get your name.”
What? Your brain kinda restarts a moment and all those serial killer documentaries and podcasts begin replaying in your head. Why does this dude want to know your name? Then you take in his stature, the way he’s angling his body towards you, head tipped down just slightly as you talk, eyes warm, smile tugging the corners of his mouth.
He’s flirting with you.
“My name? My name for a box of cereal.” You state, like you don’t quite believe it.
“I mean, unless you want to take home Strawberry Oats, I dunno.”
You pause for a few moments, trying to get your bearings. You don’t usually do this, talk to random men in the middle of Whole Foods over cereal. Not to mention being with your ex for those seven years has kinda made you incredibly cautious and aware of conversations you have, always a little unsure, still working on putting yourself out there again and taking chances. Not just with guys but with anything.
But it’s just a name right? And you really want this cereal.
“Fine,” You straighten your shoulders, “It’s Y/N.”
And the transaction is simple, he passes over the cereal, “Y/N,” Definitely doesn’t sound terrible coming from his mouth…clearly this whole interaction has sent you through the ringer. “I’m Austin. Is this a usual thing for you to passionately argue for cereal in Whole Foods or am I just lucky?”
A laugh slips out of your lips and you turn to deposit the box in your cart before the name he’s said finally registers in your brain. You turn to look at him, eyes fluttering over his face and form as he examines the box of Strawberry Oats and—that’s why he looks so familiar. You have seen him before, in Elvis, you just hadn’t put the pieces together because his hair isn’t jet-black anymore. You assume this is his regular style, still coifed in soft curls, but completely different than you’ve seen. In the back of your mind there are some thoughts swirling about how he looks so much more attractive this way, his blue eyes a softer tone than how sharp they were in the film.
Your mouth sort of open and closes like a goldfish, unsure of what to say for a moment, “I just take my cereal very seriously.”
Your friends are going to lose their minds—not that they’d even believe you if you told them. Then again, maybe this is a very detailed dream and you’re gonna wake up on your couch and realize you still need to go grocery shopping.
When Austin glances at you again, there’s this look that passes over his face, an understanding between you both that gaps have been filled in, there’s no air of mystery anymore. He doesn’t look disappointed but still a bit intrigued, putting the Strawberry Oats back to pick up some sort of peanut-butter chocolate combination.
“You didn’t know who I was before.” It’s not said in a way that’s…offended or expectant, but rather there’s something there that’s a bit softer. Like he enjoyed not being recognized. Paige and Marie talk about Austin often, they’ve shared a lot of tidbits and interviews and things like that without you asking.
But it seems like Austin, while made for the spotlight, is a bit shy in it. There’s a balance to him where he’s wading through celebrity life and fits in perfectly, but also flounders sometimes because he’s humble, genuine, sweet. Least that’s what your friends tell you. Though, with this one interaction, might be on brand. With the movie doing as well as it is, it’s flinging Austin and his career more into the public eye; he might not have many interactions like this anymore. Where there’s a blanket of anonymity.
“Well,” You clear your throat, “If it makes you feel any better—I’m still referring to you as ‘guy who likes to steal the last cereal’ in my head.”
That seems to catch him off guard because he laughs, tucking the cereal box underneath his arm. “I was just thinkin’ ‘girl who argues about cereal’ was such a better identifier for you too.”
You grin, your cheeks kissing pink before you shake your head. “That’s my full name, actually.”
Austin laughs and the sound is light and attractive and you feel like your head might start spinning because…this can’t be your life right now. You lick your lips, taking a step back from him and motioning to your cart,
“I gotta get going.” And there’s definitely…some disappointment? there, or maybe it’s just a trick of the artificial lights. Either way, he hesitates, watching you walk back to your cart and begin pushing it past him, “Enjoy that cereal.”
“Can I get your number?” He asks, mostly to your back because you’re almost out of the aisle.
Your heart ricochets right up into your throat and you turn to look at him, confusion pinching between your eyebrows because seriously? This guy wants your number? It’s floundering because, well for starters, a celebrity seemingly wants to get to know you. From running into you in the middle of Whole Foods and arguing about cereal. Secondly, there’s this knee-jerk reaction placed deep inside of you from your ex to keep yourself safe. To not get hurt again or put yourself out there.
It's a simple number exchange today but it never ends up like that.
“No,” You clear your throat, “I’m sorry. But uh—New York is one of those serendipitous places, maybe I’ll run into you again.”
Austin raises his eyebrows, definitely not the reply he was expecting but he respects it, nodding as he offers a small wave before you dip around the corner to the next aisle.
--
You think that’s an interaction that’ll just pass you by, it’ll fade into some part of your consciousness that you’ll maybe remember if it’s randomly recalled to memory. Marie and Paige talk about their latest obsession a lot so, you expect it’s something that’ll pop up, you might mention it in jest to see what their reactions are, but then it’ll disappear—hidden by more important things to think about.
Except it doesn’t.
Austin is on your mind a lot ever since you met him and it’s one of those things where it feels like he’s unavoidable. Shows on Netflix that he’s been in are suddenly available and advertised, you see billboards and subway signs of him in Elvis marketing the film, his interviews are suggested watches on YouTube and your Instagram explore page has fan posts and photoshoots alike.
This whole thing isn’t going to just disappear into the background and you realize you actually want to talk about it with someone, even though the moment has passed and it doesn’t really matter anyways. There are some feelings swirling through your chest that you’re beginning to recognize as regret, even though you don’t want to call it that by name.
Would it have really hurt to give your number to him?
Regardless that it doesn’t change anything, you invite Paige over for coffee. Maybe just venting it out will help you purge it from lingering on your mind. Besides, no offense to Marie, she’s a bit more level-headed when it comes to both of your best friends.
You divulge what happened at Whole Foods and she kinda just laughs a moment before she sees your face, “Wait—are you fucking serious?” You open your mouth to say something put Paige reaches over and gently smacks your arm,
“Hey!”
“I cannot believe you kept this from us,” She laughs, “Also incredibly ironic that you get to run into him when you’re not even a fan.”
Crinkling your nose, you reply, “I didn’t say I wasn’t a fan, I just…didn’t want to see the movie for a fourth time in a row,” You roll your eyes but there’s a soft smile tugging the corners of your mouth, “Definitely didn’t say he wasn’t hot either, he is.”
Paige squeals out a series of laughs as she grabs your arm and honestly that makes you chuckle more than the situation at hand. Leaning back against your kitchen counter, you take a long sip of coffee,
“Anyways,” A soft sigh, “None of this really matters. I fucked up by not giving him my number.”
“I can’t believe he even asked,” She shakes her head, snickering at your expression. “No, I mean—you’re beautiful and clearly got great taste in cereal, I just…it’s hard to wrap my head around.”
“You’re telling me,” You reply, your lips lingering along the rim of your mug before you take another sip.
“Why didn’t you give it to him?” Paige asks, pouring more coffee for herself.
You chew on the inside of your cheek for a few moments—you figured that’d be rather obvious. Paige watches you, pushing her hair over her shoulder. She reaches out and playfully tugs on the lapel of the jean jacket you’re wearing to draw your attention back to this conversation. She knows you though, knows what you’re thinking about.
“Not every guy you meet is going to be like Jason.”
And that…it kind of makes you bristle even though you know she’s right. It’s just such a sensitive topic, an exposed nerve, hurts to think about. “I know.”
Paige hums a little, “It’s also okay if you’re not used to that concept yet, that you’re distant? Cautious?”
You swallow, appreciating someone validating your feelings even though that’s a bit of a struggle too. You don’t like feeling like you’re the center of attention, or like…there’s something wrong with you.
“But for future reference? Definitely doesn’t hurt to give a cute guy your number,” Paige throws her arm around your shoulders, making you smirk, “Especially when that cute guy turns out to be Austin Butler.”
You sigh a bit dramatically but nod—lesson learned, at least.
“Noted.” Smiling, you bump your hip into hers and pour another cup of coffee.
--
Another week passes and you’re back in Whole Foods, not a full grocery run but just grabbing some essentials. Milk, cheese, fruit…definitely some snacks that are not needed but wanted, and of course, cereal. You hold your basket along your arm, pausing at a few spots and putting stuff in before moving to the next aisle. You can already tell upon entering the cereal aisle that things are a bit bare, the shelves looking a little emptier than usual.
Maybe you need to find a new location or change the day of the week you shop, because you pause in front of where you usually find your Maple Clusters and…completely empty. Not even a box left.
Sighing, you set your basket down to begin to browse other selections.
“Don’t you hate it when that happens?” A familiar voice speaks behind you. You turn slowly, your stomach flip flopping as your eyes land on Austin who’s walking into the aisle with his own basket, “Someone grabbin’ the last box of cereal?”
You smile a little, can’t help it, gaze taking him in completely. He’s wearing black jeans today, black cowboy lookin’ ankle booties, a simple white tee and a leather jacket. It somehow makes his features stand out even more than the last time you saw him and you’re definitely taken by how easily handsome he is.
It’s annoying to say the very least.
“Might have to change the Whole Foods I shop at; this cereal outage is just unacceptable.” Smirking a bit, you curl your hair around your ear. You can’t help but feel a bit relieved that you’re seeing him, that you managed to run into him again. Almost like a do-over, in a sense, pushing your wants and desires over insecurities and worries.
It’s not going to hurt to toe the line, to dip your foot back into the pool, to put yourself out there.
He takes a step towards you, pulling the Maple Clusters in question out of his basket, “I don’t actually need this—just wasn’t sure how else to get your attention.”
Chewing on your lower lip, you smile a little, blush working along the back of your neck. “What you just…showed up every day on the off chance I might be here, harboring cereal?”
Austin laughs a little, “No, God—I was gettin’ my own stuff. I just happened to see you turn into the aisle, made a beeline for the cereal.”
And that’s…you have to admit kinda unexpectedly cute. You’re feeling slightly flustered, a fluttery sensation directly under your ribcage, but instead of running away, you lean into it.
“So let me guess—you want a fair trade for that?” You motion to the Maple Clusters.
Austin seems to hesitate just a little, maybe not wanting to walk over a boundary line that you created the last time you ran into one another. You like that about him instantly and decide to open the door a bit more for him to walk through,
“Like maybe…getting coffee?” You offer, “In exchange?”
His eyebrows lift, pleasantly surprised, “Right now?”
“Right now,” You smile, “After we check-out.”
He hands over the cereal box, your fingers brushing as you take it. There’s an electric current just from the touch alone, slipping right up your arm and coiling like a snake in your belly, heated, heartrate doubling.
“Definitely wouldn’t say no to coffee.”
Smiling, you put the cereal box in your basket before picking it up off the floor. There’s an openness to Austin as you wander around Whole Foods, filling up the rest of your lists before making your way out to find a coffee shop. He looks at you with the intention to listen and admittedly you forgot what that feels like. To be heard, to be comfortable in sharing.
And you realize how good it feels to be willing to take chances.
