We talk a lot about red flags and got me thinking (because I'm a chronic overthinker)... Do all of your ROs have red flags to some degree? Do you have some measure scale to say like which one is worse or just intimidating? I'm just rambling here so feel free to ignore.
So! For me it's just that the characters give me different vibes instead of cataloging from least to most dangerous. Some examples of it:
Roan is a literal ray of sunshine but it's not the kind of person you want to push off their limit
Khari is intimidating but apart from some harsh comment wouldn't harm you if you don't antagonize them
Riven is violent and impulsive but not inherently cruel, more like wanting to be purposely difficult and lashing out due to instinct/trauma
Ariel gives off a dangerous aura right away, but again, not out of cruelty
Sage you just gotta look them in the eye once and your first thought is "I ain't messing around with this one unless I have a wish for a slow and painful death"
I'd say yes, all of them are 'red flags' to some degree. I think whether one is worse than the other is more of a subjective thing.
For example;
Sasha has no regard for laws, can be pushy (the 'cmon dance with me/lets watch horror movies!!!!' type of pushy), and is kind of like a puppy with separation anxiety, extremely dependent on the praise and attention from their loved ones.
Roan quite literally would do most heinous things to keep MC alive, no matter MCs own feelings towards Roan and as stated multiple times in the game, they are way too accepting of MC, even if MC is rude to them.
Sage and Ariel don't perceive violence or murder attempts as a red flag, (which is a red flag in itself) as long as they have their own reasons. Riven is similar in that regard, and like Sasha, they are like a dog with separation anxiety.
Khari can come off as an asshole and is unapologetic or hostile at times when someone disrespects their boundaries, also they do not subscribe to the 'everyone deserves respect' instead having the 'respect is earned' mentality.
Morgan is constantly negative and pessimistic and sees no point in fake politeness, no matter the time or place. They also are accepting of more shady characters and just refuse to be positive about things.
So i'd say all of them are 'red flags' to some degree, its just different shades and shapes of red!

Best Bosses: Mestama, The Mother of Witches.
Demon lord of cruelty, deception, & Hags.

“Patron of hags, vengeful widows, and witches, Mestama takes great delight in murdering young women on the eve of their wedding day so she can take their forms and wed their husbands-to-be…
At the height of such a marriage’s consummation, she returns to her true form, castrates the new husband and vanishes. Those who survive often receive visits decades later from twisted and hideous half-fiends—their sons or daughters, sent by Mestama to finish off the job and murder their fathers.”
Mestama, Mother of Witches, is one of the cruelest beings in the multiverse. Even by Hag standards, she is beyond corrupt, seeking out nothing but deception, pain, and unexpected violence for every being she encounters. Even her very presence exacerbates wounds and breaks down companionships.
Subtle Methods. Mestama, while more than capable of violence, prefers to deal with enemies and victims subtly. She will often work within a group to break it down, attempting to turn members on eachother. She will twist support and corrupt good intentions; For example, she could meddle with healers’ supplies, causing a desperate cure for a disease to transform the ill into fiendish monsters. When Mestama’s plots are revealed, she lashes out, often making errors and cutting corners to punish any who dare to ruin her fun.
Hateful Cult. Mestama’s worshippers, comprised of eunuchs and women who live to spread cruel deeds and deception. They view competing faiths and organizations with pure hatred, and often wage hidden wars on other cults. Oftentimes, good factions will take advantage of this recklessness, disguising themselves as evil cults and hosting mock sacrifices to attract the ire of a local Mestaman cult. When these false cults are revealed, the shame and despair of being deceived causes these groups to lash out, for they know they only have a matter of hours before their mistress comes to punish their failure.
The Mother of Witches’ Lair:
Mestama’s layer of the Abyss, The Barren Wood, is a twisting and confusing birch forest.
Arboreal Portals. Some deep woods in the Material Plane connect to the Barren Wood. Mortals who wander too deep into these forests risk becoming lost forever. Maps lose relevance, compasses and navigation devices malfunction, and trails become unreliable when within the Barren Wood.
Dangerous Domain. The Barren Wood is full of traps waiting for visitors. In addition to traditional pits and snares left for beings to walk into, the Hag Mother’s minions set up huts along the major paths. These seemingly safe havens are often pleasantly lit, with delicious aromas wafting from open doorways. After beings let their guards down in these places, they wake to find themselves trapped at a Hag’s mercy, or even in the clutches of Mestama herself.
Corrupted Nature. The traditional laws of nature don’t apply in this horrid realm, with day and night merging into perpetual twilight. Even time doesn’t advance the way it should— Victims missing for a few days could reappear as ancient skeletons, or people trapped for years could reappear having only been dead a few hours. Every single part of this domain exists to serve Mestama, and to disorient her victims.
Ideas for using Mestama in a campaign:
A chaotic good church offers the party free healing and board if they undertake a risky endeavor. The party must join a group of worshippers to stage a fake sacrifice in order to lure out a hidden Mestaman sect. To add an extra layer of intrigue, it could turn out that this is the whole plan of the Mestamans all along, and the “fake” sacrifice will actually summon an agent of Mestama.
A desperate Changeling approaches the party, offering them all of her earthly riches if they will kill her Hag mother and her coven. She leads them to the Coven’s lair, only to be revealed as the Coven’s leader in disguise. They are a trio of Mestama’s Daughters, seeking to garner her attention by deceiving a whole adventuring party.
An investigator in service to a king reaches out to the party, desperate for help investigating a strange string of deaths. Each of the king’s heirs has been turning up dead on their wedding night, with the bride/ seemingly vanished into thin air. It turns out, one of the castle’s maids is secretly a worshipper of Mestama who summoned her patron into the castle to get cruel revenge for her years of mistreatment.
I am unfortunate enough to have met a few of the Mother of Witches’ vile-hearted servants. One will never meet a more cruel or malicious group of people, as Mestama only garners the worship of society’s most shamed and mistreated members.
Widows, spinsters, and beggars all flock to the Hag Queen’s covens, seeking the power to get revenge on the world that turned its back on them.
Chief among her servants are the vile witches known as Hags. Some are genuinely descended from this Demon Lord, but “Mother of Witches” is mostly an epithet. She teaches many witches their dark arts, and many covens praise her in the dead of night.
If you ever encounter strange groupings of black-hearted crones or derelicts practicing corrupt magic, be very cautious. They may be more than they seem, driven by the black-hearted Mother Hag.

“Because psychopaths have no empathy for the feelings, needs, or rights of others, they also feel no remorse—even when their actions harm others. Because of these combined traits and deficits, psychopaths are much more likely to engage in crime, violence, abusive behavior towards others, and other forms of cruel or dangerous behaviors.
Many psychopathic people are pathological liars and master manipulators, which can make it much more difficult to spot the signs of a psychopath. Psychopathic traits and characteristics often become more obvious when you have more frequent interactions with a person, at which point the symptoms of psychopathy may become more evident.
While they lack true empathy, they are often very skilled at “faking” prosocial behaviors like flattery, kindness, and false sympathy. They may use these skills to get things that they want from people, but eventually they are unable to keep up the act. Over time, the charm and charisma will probably wear off, unmasking an underlying coldness or cruelty.
2. Unnecessary Cruelty or a Mean Streak
Once the superficial charm and charisma wears off, a psychopath will often demonstrate moments of cruelty or meanness. These may include gossip, biting comments, lashing out aggressively at others, or laughing or being entertained when they hurt or embarrass someone. Cruelty and meanness are hallmark signs of a psychopath, and often lead to a pattern of violating the rights of others
3. Lies, Exaggerations, & Dishonesty
Many psychopaths are prone to pathological lying. They may exaggerate the truth to get their way, inflate their ego, or get others to think, feel or do what they want them to. Most normal people feel guilty or at least a little worried about being caught in a lie, but a psychopath’s lack of conscience makes lying a guilt-free activity. In fact, deception is even a listed symptom of ASPD, and can even show up as a person ‘faking’ remorse, empathy, or care and concern for other people.
Psychopaths commit some of the most cruel, violent, and heinous acts in society, but they rarely take responsibility for their actions. Instead, they are more likely to blame other people, make excuses, and try to justify their actions, no matter how bad they are. This sign of a psychopath is indicative of their lack of morals, conscience, and empathy, meaning they do not have the same sense of ‘right and wrong’ that most people do.
5. Need for Power, Control, & Dominance
Many psychopaths seek out positions of power and authority because they enjoy domination and control of other people. According to some research, psychopaths are slightly more likely to seek out and secure positions of leadership in the corporate world, suggesting there is a grain of truth in the stereotype of the psychopathic CEO. There is also a known overlap between psychopathy, narcissism and Machiavellianism (immoral and exploitative tendencies), which can lead to a hunger for power and control.
6. Sadistic Enjoyment of Pain & Suffering
Sadism is a word that describes a sick sense of pleasure from the pain and suffering of other people. In some psychopathic people, the pain of others is sexually arousing and in others, the pleasure is non-sexual and has more to do with excitement, power, or the ‘rush’ of the experience.
7. Boredom & Thrill-Seeking Behaviors
Because psychopaths lack some of the normal emotional wiring that most people have, it takes a lot more to excite them, make them happy, or give them a thrill.
8. Disregard for Rules, Laws, & Norms
Psychopaths do not follow the same code of ethics as most people in society, which is why they often behave in immoral or even illegal ways. These may include minor offenses like inappropriate comments or profanity or more serious offenses like crime and violence. While not all psychopaths are violent criminals, a very high percentage of people who commit crimes (especially violent crimes) have psychopathic traits.
9. Unaffected & Unafraid of Consequences
While most people who engage in criminal behaviors live in fear of being caught, psychopaths don’t always have this same fear. This may be partially explained by the fact that psychopaths are believed to have abnormalities in areas of the brain that create normal fear responses, and also in the parts of the brain linked to impulse control and good long-term decision making.
10. Detached, Cold & Callous Demeanor
Researchers believe that psychopaths do not have the same emotional wiring as normal people, which is why they often display a cold, callous, and apathetic demeanor. The differences in the structure of their brains is believed to limit their ability to experience a normal range of human emotions, making them less likely to experience strong emotions. In situations when others are sad, upset, anxious, or excited, a psychopath may seem oddly detached or apathetic.
Psychopaths lack the ability to empathize with other people, so it makes sense that they have trouble forming and maintaining close relationships with people. While they may be able to use their charm or powers of persuasion to fool people into liking them, they usually lack the ability to maintain these relationships over time. This is why most psychopaths have very short, shallow relationships with people, as well as many people who they’ve betrayed, hurt, or turned into enemies.
13. Exploitation of Others for Personal Gain
A psychopath will use, abuse, and exploit other people, especially when it means getting something they want. In their pursuit of power, wealth, fame, and so forth, there are no lengths they won’t go to in order to get what they want. This is bound to leave many casualties in their path, and a psychopath will have no remorse when they need to throw someone under the bus in order to get ahead, even when this is someone who has helped them along the way.
Some psychopaths devise detailed plans on how to con, exploit, or take advantage of people who are naturally generous, kind, and trusting.
15. A Lack of Conscience
Even when they harm another person, a psychopath will not feel genuine remorse for their actions, and they may not even be phased by the consequences of their actions when they get in trouble.
Also, a psychopath may occasionally provide a disturbing view into their twisted minds when talking about strange things they like, mean comments about others, or statements that make it clear they don’t care about other people.
19. Hostile & Oppositional by Nature
Another one of the psychopath traits that is less commonly known is a hostile and oppositional demeanor. While psychopaths can pretend to be friendly, kind, and charming for a short time, their true nature is much more aggressive. Slave Chips + Anakin Angst time
(who tf had this convo? whoever it was, all your body parts are going on the wall. kneecaps = TAKEN for making me fuckin cry)
The conversation started w/ a Anakin has chronic pain because of a very Loud force presence + all the fun stuff that comes from a childhood in slavery and formative years spent as a general in a war, and then talking about high vs low pain perception
And then Yui hops in with this:
what if Slave masters have technology in the slave chips where they can control their slaves pain perception--Low perception for when they work and high for when they get punished.
The jedi didn't know about it, Qui-gon forgot to mention the chip to the Council
and Watto " forgot " to turn it the high pain perception off as a way of getting back at the Jedi for “stealing” his investment
Oh my God what if anakin thinks they know and choose not to turn it off
WHAT IF HE THINKS THAT THEY'RE PUNISHING HIM FOR QUI-GON BEING QUI GON AND FOR THEM BEING FORCED TO TAKE HIM IN SO OLD
AND THAT FEEDS HIS BITTERNESS OF THEM
AND ALSO STOMPS HIS SELF ESTEEM
Because the pain NEVER stops.
So Anakin never says anything
It makes him think that he definitely cannot tell them about any injuries he has unless they make him unfit to work
And Obi-Wan constantly lectures him too and like he's already being punished he doesn't need to be verbally beaten down too
(note that it’s from Anakin perspective, the unreliable narrator of the year--Obi-wan actually has no idea about the chip)
And when he lashes out because it just HURTS and he can't contain it anymore, he’s berated AGAIN
Also, if the pain perception is controlled, that means the slave chip is still there, which makes the thought process he has about being punished for being taken so old even worse
And then, what if Kix one day finds a chip in Anakin's nervous system, he removes it, and Anakin begins crying with relief
And Kix goes "Sir Why WAS THIS TORTURE DEVICE IN YOU?"
He gets injured enough for emergency surgery and Kix finds the chip that way, meanwhile, Anakin can't have anesthesia for medical reasons, so he's dealing with the surgery awake and feels the moment the chip is detached.
WHAT IF ANAKIN IS FAKE NONCHALANT ABOUT IT BECAUSE ANGST
"Ah? Oh they didn't tell you? I thought it'd be in the brief. That's my slave chip. It's supposed to be there. It means they own me." And kix...kix is aghast.
the Jedi are all crying in a corner at the fact they let a CHILD be tortured for YEARS
Because Anakin admitted to a slave chip. Of being owned. And he calls obi-wan Master
Obi-Wan is absolutely devastated because he tortured the child who he was responsible for and he never wanted to do that and oh force, he's a monster (it’s obi wan so like. infinite sadness to the max)
The clones basically become Anakin's mother hens
WHAT IF THIS IS HOW THEY FIND THE CLONE CHIPS TOO
BC KIX GOES "IF THEIR JETII HAS A CHIP...ONE OF THEIR OWN... WHAT ABOUT US CLONES?"
Also the fact so if this is during the Clone Wars: they've sent Anakin in as a soldier without him even knowing he had a right to not fight
The Council decides immediately to take Anakin off the front and get to seeing a mind healer, before collectively drinking an entire bar under the table
Oh God did anyone ever explain to anakin. In depth. That just because they are called "Master" does not mean they own him?
AS A SLAVE, HE WAS ALLOWED HIS THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS. HIS MASTERS BEFORE DID NOT OWN HIS MIND. BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE WITH THE JEDI, IN HIS PERSPECTIVE
(again, Anakin’s perspective, the Jedi didn’t actually know. This somehow becomes an eventual fix it lol.)
Like LOGICALLY Anakin knows that Master to them means teacher but he thinks it doesn't apply to him because they won him and he is still a slave
What if that's the reason he kept his marriage to Padme a secret, not because he was afraid of being kicked out of the Order, but because he would be punished for loving a free person?
YEAH BC SLAVES DON'T GET MARRIED AND PADME WAS NOT ONLY A FREEBORN, BUT SHE IS ALSO, IN HIS EYES, SO FAR ABOVE HIS STATION ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY
Oh, with the removal of the chip and the pain, Anakin gets high from the huge levels of pain-relieving chemicals his body has been producing for years to compensate.
Anakin living in constant fear of punishments, and that's why he always seems so high strung and on a hair trigger
Like!! This whole thing is a web of miscommunication and assumptions
Anakin assumes that the Jedi and whatever know about the chip and chose to keep it in.
He assumes he is still a slave if not in name, then in status
He assumes the council is constantly punishing him for Qui-Gon essentially forcing them to take him in and for his failure to adhere to their code.
He assumes Obi-Wan feels the same, or perhaps he cannot risk going against the council bc they're his elders and he still loves Obi-Wan, bc he sees that Obi-Wan does care for him
(but not enough to free you, a voice whispers in his head that grows louder every day)
Him talking about things with Palpy, thinking the man would be nice enough to free him...
the entire temple is just full of people drinking and crying over Anakin and Anakin himself is currently the most functional person around, trying to convince everyone it wasn't that bad
He doesn't realize that that makes it so much worse. He's all "Really, compared to my other masters. And to masters I could have gone to... you all were kind. I was lucky."
And they despair.
Because how could they still be given that earnest smile, of beautiful blue eyes, shining still with trust and love, when they tormented him, albeit unknowingly, for over a decade?
Anakin is just very relieved to be pain free, and that they didn't know so it wasn't on purpose.
Anakin: You all treated me so well! I had food and water every day, shelter and good quality clothing. You never beat me and my punishments, while sometimes painful, were done with no tricks without cruelty.
“You’re the best masters I’ve had.”
Mace, upon being told this by a very earnest and 100% honest Anakin, knowing full well how he made life difficult for Anakin and didn't like him much, cleared a whole bar of alcohol on his own
While the Jedi are crying, the 501st is willing to go on a murder spree. The Hutts are DEAD.
Everyone say bye bye Gardulla and Jabba
Anakin is just happy and relieved.
Yes there will be talking. He will have to establish boundaries, the order will need to regain its footing.
But Anakin is free, and he has so much love to give.
And now he knows that they never meant for him to suffer.
And maybe he's still high on being free of pain, but now he knows they genuinely cared for him and none of their kindness was because they wanted him to perform well. They were genuine.
Obi-Wan at one point just breaking down and holding Anakin to his chest and sobbing because how did he fail him so badly
meanwhile Anakin's just like "Master, it's fine, I'm fine. Hey crying wastes water, if you're going to cry over something it's gotta be something more major than this. I mean everything's fine, everything's better than fine now, I'm free."
Anakin not quite processing why everything he says makes Obi-Wan cry harder.
Quinlan must be very glad that he never tried to touch Anakin directly.
Anakin's self-flagellation issues are through the ROOF
