We do not “crosstalk,” which means we do not refer to, negatively or positively evaluate, or comment on anyone else’s sharing before, during, or after the meeting. Examples of crosstalk include: interrupting, giving unsolicited feedback, giving advice, answering, using another member’s name in your share, interrogating, debating, criticizing, controlling, and dominating. The group conscience of this meeting has decided that empathic non-verbal communication, such as smiling or nodding, is not considered crosstalk. We maintain crosstalk guidelines because Adult Children come from backgrounds where feelings and perceptions were judged as wrong or defective. We learn to accept, without comment, what others say because it is true for them. We work toward taking more responsibility in our lives rather than giving advice to others. We speak about our own experiences and feelings. Our crosstalk guidelines help to keep our meeting a safe place. We do not attempt to comfort others if they become emotional or cry during a meeting. We allow the person to feel their feelings without interrupting their process. To comfort a person is known as “fixing”. As children, we tried to fix our parents or control them with our behavior. In ACA, we are learning to take care of ourselves. We encourage each person to share about their experiences openly. We hold a group intention not to ridicule or embarrass anyone.

This is the Lo-Fi Stream, recorded on a pair of analog tube cameras from 50 years ago and a single shotgun mic placed in the middle of the room. This is the one year Anniversary show for the Ellijay Makerspace and I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate all we accomplished in our first year. Hurly Burly has been with Analog Revolution from the very first day, and The New Clear Lawn Chairs were featured in the second issue of our magazine. This was the first time I can remember seeing Crosstalk live, but frontwoman Helena has been a part of many of the things that led to the creation of the Ellijay Makerspace over the last ten years.

The show is full of surprises and heart and it made me cry. These are bands that have been performing, in one incarnation or another, for a decade or more, at least two of the bands were founded when their members were in high school. That was a long time ago, but it was really wonderful to be able to get them all back together, in the same room, to shout and share and destroy a giant volcano.

Look for a split LP from HBATVF and TNCLC out in March from Analog Revolution.

PERIOD! We need fighters for truth. We need the kinds of perspectives, voices, and information that these journalists bring to the forefront. There is just too much at stake.
