Happy fourth birthday, Crème de la Crème!

I’ve been writing in this setting for five and a half years now and as the years have gone by, I’ve found I have more and more ideas to explore.

When I first pitched Crème de la Crème - more about that process here, from CdlC’s third birthday last year - it felt risky. I’d made romance-focused games before, but they were short, and focused on one character per game. My first CoG game, Blood Money, along with a lot of my other early games, is fantastical, violent, and moody, where CdlC is generally much lighter - in overall tone, if not in all the events that happen. But I’d been yearning to write a school game for a long time - I was idly thinking about it sometime during Blood Money - and this was my opportunity to do it.

And I’m really glad I did! Crème de la Crème has reached a larger audience than I ever thought possible, it won XYZZY awards that I was absolutely stunned to receive (Best Writing, and tying for Best Story and Best Game in 2019), and it continues to bring people enjoyment even after all these years. It feels really magical that people who don’t even know me have enjoyed this story, characters, and world.

I learned a huge amount from making it and it’s been a jumping-off point for future games in the same setting - so even though it came out four years ago, it’s still very much part of my life which is really lovely.

To think I was initially worried that people wouldn’t enjoy a game with so little combat in it!

Thank you to everyone who's played, gave feedback while it was being made, who's talked about it, who's made art about it, and who's supported it in any manner of ways. I really appreciate it. And particular thanks to Abigail C Trevor for the editing, Kris Lorischild for copyediting, Paula Tuazon for the beautiful art, and my wife Fay Ikin for helping me at every step of the way.

This was a quick idea... I just wanted to do some random outlines... and I finished another "Creme de la Creme" playthrough earlier... so I just took how I imagined my little Cyrena Duval. She ended up romancing Max... somehow still managed to get an A+ in her final exams and got accepted to Gessner University.... 

It's nothing fancy... but at least it's something small I did for myself.

finished Crème de la Crème by @hpowellsmith last night and had to do the usual thing of updating the sim visual of my protag, Euphemia 'Mia' Túsling.

her parents fell into debt due to their gambling problems and she got very stressed out about having to restore their place in society. top is during her time at college and bottom is afterwards when she's been married and working for a while :>

she's very accommodating but also very direct. being subtle / intrigue isnt her strong suit at all. is balanced between being traditional and progressive. wit is super high tho and she's fairly popular with everyone. closest friends are Freddie, Hartmann, and Karson.

she did help the local journalist with the disappearing investigation only because she was afraid of any further hits to her reputation should she decline at first, but got invested herself real fast when some absolutely wild dots started connecting.

Lady Renaldt did end up getting arrested but not before Euphemia was sent to the mines herself where she escaped w Blaise. she's gonna marry him. gallatin also won the competition. i love her and i plan on doing like two more routes w her and then making someone new for some others.

You have just finished watching the movie adaptation of Mistborn: The Final Era. You have sat through the credits, expecting an easter egg scene teasing at further cosmere film adaptations.

As the last credits scroll pass, Charrs Entrone appears on screen, slumped dead on the ground. You saw Kelsier dump his corpse on the Tekiel grounds earlier, but did not see his actual death. Slowly, Kelsier steps up to the body, mistcoat obscuring his features. He reaches down, checking for a pulse.

You sit in your popcorn-littered movie theater chair, confused as to why this particular scene is playing out. What does this have to do with -

Suddenly, Kelsier starts dancing, celebrating his victory over the dead body.
