The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but irrigate deserts.” With these words C.S. Lewis opened The Abolition of Man. Lewis spent his life standing against the modern approach to education, an approach that encouraged cynicism and skepticism, leaving a wasteland in its wake...

Sobering Reminders About Hell
Fact: Hell is conscious awareness.
Meaning: One’s mind will never be more active, alert, and sharp than when he/she is in hell. Forever in their minds, those in hell will be replaying the torment of their memory of rejecting the Gospel (Lk. 16:25). God will able give them the ability, it seems, to retrace their steps of how he brought people to share the gospel. Such opportunities will haunt them for ages to come (Rev. 20:19-20).

Who was one of the great influences on today’s leading theologians and university presidents? James Montgomery Boice. Educated at Harvard University and Princeton Seminary, the late James Montgomery Boice was raised up for a lifetime of preaching at Tenth Presbyterian Church. Yet he also found himself at the epicenter of theological debate. He was committed to the authority of scripture, passionate for the...

by Owen Anderson | What Charnock does that is so impressive is that he does not simply argue for an uncaused cause, designer, or moral governor, but he argues for God the Creator. He gives us a full definition of God and then uses individual arguments to prove each attribute. Charnock shows us that God is a Spirit. He argues for the incommunicable attributes of God (infinite, eternal, and unchangeable) and also that God is good...

by Matthew Barrett | I have been teaching on the Reformation for years and I have noticed a troubling trend: most evangelicals approach the Reformation with little to no understanding of the medieval scholastics that preceded the Reformation and...

by Bruce Gordon and Matthew Barrett | In celebrations of the Reformation Protestants have placed not little emphasis on prominent figures such as John Calvin or Martin Luther. Others such as Zwingli, along with the Swiss reformation, are often overlooked and considered inconsequential. Yet, Zwingli’s controversial legacy is foundational to the genesis of the Reformed church...

by J.V. Fesko | Pray and seek contentment where the Lord has placed you in his holy providence. Put your nose to the grindstone, work hard, and leave the results up to him. Whether in plenty or in want, seek to praise Christ in all situations, and don’t compare yourself to others. Pray that you’re faithful to what Christ...

by Samuel G. Parkinson | In one of his lesser known works, The Discarded Image: An Introduction to Medieval and Renaissance Literature, C.S. Lewis paints a vivid picture of the Medieval imagination. He does this, in part, by contrasting the Medieval imagination with the modern one. Embodying these two radically different outlooks are two...

by Scott Meadows | The target goal for From Plato to Christ is to argue for the applicability of philosophy, notably sourced in Socrates and Plato, toward the Christian faith through the “contemplation of what Plato called the Good and later Christian theologians called the Beatific Vision.” In the same way that Rome prepared the physical roads for evangelizing the gentiles...
