Ugh. I'm anti-darklina. Firmly.

The Darkling is one of my favorite characters ever and I LOVE their dynamic, but not as a romance.

Also, I completely disagree about the similarities other than the hero/villain dynamic. The Darkling waited for Alina's specific kind of power and he set out to use her. Alina doesn't have his knowledge, she doesn't have his years or experience. There is a complete imbalance between them. Moreover, the Darkling actively tries to hurt her, sexually assaults her and hurts her loved ones for the sake of breaking her.

On the other hand, the fact that Albus DID share his level of power, intellect and knowledge was part of what attracted Gellert in the first place. He wanted Albus by his side, he instinctively lashed out when someone tried to talk Albus out of being with him, but he ultimately did not force Albus. I'm not saying Grindeldore is healthy or that Gellert did not hurt Albus and send Credence to kill him. But there is a sense of equality that was always there, as opposed to Alina having to twist her body and her morality to live up to The Darkling's power. Also, Albus himself was never on board with Gellert's methods, but he DID have an incling about his darkness. He knew about his experiments in Durmstrang. He knew that he wanted to use the resurrection stone to make inferi. Gellert probably kept back on mentions of mass-murder, which is still manipulation, but Albus himself was a little too willing to believe that he'd make him a better man. Unlike the Darkling dissimulating his entire identity to manipulate Alina and to seduce her. Albus and Gellert were complicated, but they were not unevenly matched. Even in SoD, when Albus is chosen by the Qilin, Gellert has a look of resignation because YES, he can see why Albus would be chosen. He does not see him as a child. And when he tries to sway him to his side once more he does so openly, addressing an equal.

I won't even start on the fact that Alina ALWAYS loved Mal, who eventually dealt with his struggle and embraced her power with all its complexity even more than she did. And then of course we have Albus and Gellert loving only each other until they died.

Don't get me wrong. The dynamic between darklina is absolutely fascinating, but the romanticized version is just fanon. The canon version is not shippable IMO, but it's much more nuanced and interesting.

Grindeldore growing old together... Imagine Albus and Gell as Grandparents, their child, Destiny Grindelwald, married Credence Barebone, then became pregnant, told them, they got excited, all 3 were in the delivery room when Destiny gave birth, Credence was holding her hand, Albus was giving her calming visuals and Gell let his Qilin comfort her, the little sweetie nuzzled her throghout the process. Destiny gave birth to their first Grandchild, a son she and Credence named Riku...Albus is showing immense pride in her while Gell is overjoyed about becoming a Grandfather, the two babysit Riku so Destiny and Credence can go out on dates.

Albus and Gell are both thrilled their little witch, Destiny, has gotten engaged, both give her away to Credence at her wedding.A few months later, she and Credence visit and are taking a picture with them, Albus notices her belly is slightly bumping, the camera takes photos automatically, on 3, just before the picture is taken, Destiny says "Mama Albus, Papa Gellert, I'm pregnant!" Albus shrieks in joy, while Gell jumps and down excitedly! 9 months later, Destiny has gone into labour, Credence notifies them, Albus and Gell rush to St. Mungo's to be by their daughter's side! As she labours, Credence dutifully holds her hand, with Albus giving her calming visuals, Gell lets his Qilin hop on Destiny's bed, the sweet creature nuzzles her to comfort her. Her non active Labour lasts 45 hours, with her Active Labour lasting 2 hours, after many screams of pain and the men chanting "Push, push, push," little Riku Barebone is born and lets out a healthy cry, Credence cuts his cord, after Riku is cleaned and swathed, Destiny is the first to hold him! Reactions? Credence:Way to go, honey, you did it! Gellert:I'm so overjoyed, I'm a Grandfather!! Albus:I am so proud of you sweetie, you did so well! Destiny:He's so cute! A few weeks later, Albus and Gellert are babysitting their new grandson while Destiny and Credence are on a date.

Aurelius is Grindelwald’s creation...

now a theory I’ve seen that I like is maybe Credence is carrying Ariana’s obscurus. As they can survive jumping from host to host. Then Grindelwald would look for a specific one but won’t know who the host is. Maybe he searched for it with a spell using Albus’ blood or something. Because he said he kept seeing Credence “with the child” - maybe Ariana? This also explains the phoenix and his surprise to Credence being the obscurial in the first film.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t change the fact that Aurelius Dumbledore is completely fabricated by Grindelwald. To manipulate Credence into hating and probably killing Albus - there is no long lost brother.

I am also %100 sure Aurelius is the name Grindeldore decided upon to give to their child if they ever adopted one but that’s my wishful thinking for you to ignore.

So I watched The Crimes Of Grindelwald today and omg I'm fascinated! Could you please, please write me a soft and maybe a little angsty Grindeldore story? That would be absolutely amazing! Thank you so much, love Chrissy♡

Gellert was practically shaking with excitement. Finally, he had his son with him again- now, if only Albus were here too. He hadn’t recognized it in Aurelius, at first. Of course, the Obscurial was powerful- look at who its parents were. Albus and Gellert were in a league of their own, and so would their son.

Everything soon would be as it should be, though that required Aurelius to no longer be afraid of him.

“Is he frightened of me still?” The german whispered to the newest addition to his acolytes, Ms. Queenie Goldstein.

She eyed the young man carefully through the cracked door before looking back at Gellert,

“You need to be careful. He’s not sure he made the right choice. Be very gentle with him.”

He nodded at her, dismissing her. Once she was gone, he continued to watch his unknowing son for a moment

Aside from his dark hair and eyes, Gellert could easily see a lot of Albus in him. His desire to be loved, to be wanted were just like Albus when Gellert first met him.

The wizard had been so quiet when Gellert first met him. Tante Bathilda had been so excited to introduce them, talking on and on about how brilliant Albus was.

Gellert hadn’t believed it, this shy soft spoken man? That was until he got Albus talking and it quickly became evident how truly amazing he was. Thinking about how Albus was in their youth made Gellert’s heart ache.

The way Albus had looked at him the first time they’d laid together, how Albus would shout his name like he was worshipping ancient gods.

Albus would murmur Gellert’s name in his sleep more often than not, always rolling over in bed to search for Gellert if he woke up and the German wasn’t already holding him.

As it always did, these thoughts always led to when he last saw Albus. The rage and the tears from those sparkling blue eyes- the unfamiliar hate that shattered Gellert’s heart.

Moving away from the door for a moment, Gellert closed his eyes and leaned against the wall. He needed to be calm before talking to Aurelius.

He couldn’t think about Albus right now, even so his hand moved to grasp the vial he wore in his vest. The feeling in Gellert when he realized it was gone was indescribably awful. His heart had dropped through the floor as his horror rose.

Many would have assumed Gellert kept such a trinket to keep Albus under control. And while that aspect was incredibly helpful until he convinced Albus to return to his side, the real reason he kept it on him at all time was a bit more nostalgic.

He could still hear the soft sharp gasp that escaped Albus’ lips as he cut open his palm- could feel their magics intertwining. The moment their eyes locked as their hands met. Those wide blue eyes that held so much trust, so much love for him.

And then it all got ruined.

He bit back a sigh, his hand grasping at the loose and empty chain. As soon as he talked to Credence, he’d return to Paris. He would find their vial. Gellert couldn’t let that vial be found by anyone else. It wasn’t anyone else’s damn business.

It was between himself and Albus (and their son, by Merlin and Morgana- they had a child!) and no one else. It kept Albus from entering the fight, kept him from danger.

Though, his most loyal knew better than to hurt Albus. That idiot Krall got what he deserved- threatening Albus like that.

If he couldn’t keep Albus actively out of the fight through the vial, then other steps would have to be made. He’d do what he had to keep his foolish phoenix safe.

Until he saw the truth, saw that everything Gellert did was for the greater good, for their son and for him.

Everything was for Albus.

Anyway, Hannigram has been the perfect training ground bc now I have all this practice in constructing the imaginary kinder gentler protective version of a character who’s abusive in the text ha ha ha.  At least Graves has the excuse of being literally not himself since he got bodysnatched by wizard Hitler.

Sad Bishounen and How To Save Them: The AU

The thing is, after fully latching on to Mr. G, Credence is gonna be wildly emotionally dependent–I don’t think there’s any way around that, especially if they're cohabiting, even if one gives him other friends as a further support system.  So I figure Graves (who in any verse according to yrs trly will be trying to do right by Credence, having failed spectacularly at resisting a romantic/sexual relationship altogether, because despite being super inappropriate it’s troo luv) eventually tries to send Credence off on his own somewhere, maybe a trip abroad, something relatively innocuous with Newt & critters, maybe.  Get him out of the house, give him some air, let him operate independently for a while. This is like when Jedi Masters send their beloved apprentices out into the galaxy alone, amirite.  If you love something, set it free, if it comes back to you etc. Meanwhile the insecure parts of Credence will feel like the world is ending, Mr. Graves doesn’t want him any more, sob, etc. etc.

But he squashes his insecurities into a tiny dense ball of misery and goes…and then Graves gets into trouble while he’s gone, Credence has to come charging to the rescue, OBSCURUS SMASH, and Credence decides then and there to become an Auror since clearly no one else can be trusted to look after Mr. Graves.  (Am torn on this: on the one hand it’d be good for Credence to have a job that doesn’t entail magical violence, or working for his S.O. to whom he is already overly attached -_-; but otoh who can resist mutual protectiveness / together they fight crime??  Anyway when it comes to Final Boss Grundeltwerp it’ll be all hands on deck since we’ll need the entire party to stop him, probably.)

Q:  What about Mary Lou tho, if she doesn’t bite the dust in this AU bc Graves got Credence away in time A:  UGHHH can we pls just arrest her for child abuse and assault?  No?  I’ll think of something.

Q:  What about Modesty tho A:  Idk, can Queenie and Jacob take her in?  Maybe she gets an Ilvermorny letter after all?  Yer a witch, Modesty.  Then she gets to live the dream, eating pastries and going to magic school and visiting Credence and Uncle Percy.  A+ life

* I realize info about the upcoming films is scarce–except that wossername Newt’s ex will be innit–but why would you get Colin Farrell to be all painfully attractive in the first film, and then never bring him back ever again?  Who does that?  If JKR’s gonna go all gay tragedy with Grindeldore, she owes the audience some gay HEA to compensate.  She owes me personally, lmao, see above re: Dog Death of ‘03 and associated emotional distress.  (I kid, I mean I’d like to watch Colin Farrell do things with his hands on screen again, but most likely JKR would cock it up, whereas the fans are doing just fine.)
