MAGA mania.
Tumblr media
February 5, 2024
In 1841, Scottish journalist Charles Mackay published a book with the impressive title Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds. In it he described how, at various times, masses of gullible people believed the most inane foolishness. Like witches consorted with the Devil, alchemists changed lead into gold, or Dutch tulips were inherently valuable. Wrote Mackay in his introduction to the 1852 edition:
We find that whole communities suddenly fix their minds on one object, and go mad in its pursuit; that millions of people become simultaneously impressed with one delusion, and run after it, till their attention is caught by some new folly more captivating than the first.
He could well have been referring to the subset of our population that today is willing to accept as true patently ridiculous absurdities. This nation within our nation consists entirely of the denizens of MAGA land. And, in fact, they may be even more delusional than the people Mackay wrote about.
After swallowing the QAnon nonsense in 2017 about a worldwide Democrat cabal of Satanic, cannibalistic child molesters that Donald Trump was secretly fighting against, the MAGA deplorables are now primed to believe anything — no matter how preposterous, crazy or just plain silly.
They are certain, for example, that the coronavirus is a deliberately concocted Chinese bioweapon. But also that it's a hoax. That COVID vaccines will kill you. But also that they contains mind-controlling microchips. They're positive the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol was planned and directed by FBI agents. But also that it was the work of the imaginary militia, Antifa. Or, they'll insist it was simply a peaceful protest.
MAGA wackos believe immigrants (all of them illegal, of course) from Latin America are being recruited to replace white Americans. But also that these same immigrants are smuggling fentanyl into the US and are child traffickers. They're convinced that public school teachers are sexually grooming students. And that these busy teachers are forcing kids to become transgender. And brainwashing them with critical race theory.
But the latest MAGA theory making the rounds may be the nuttiest of all. Apparently — and stay with us now — the NFL and the Pentagon have secretly colluded to have the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl because Travis Kelce plays for them and his girlfriend is pop mega-star Taylor Swift, who is hated by the MAGAs because (get this) she encourages young people to vote and she endorsed Joe Biden in 2020.
Clearly, were he still around, Charlie Mackay could easily write another entire book simply about the delusions of the addled Trump cult. He could call it The Extraordinary Madness of MAGAs.

TW: Rape, Abortion, Politics
i saw a video of some politicians discussing abortion laws, more specifically in matters of rape, in a zoom meeting and a WHITE MAN decides to say "i tell my daughters that if theyre getting rape to just sit back enjoy it and let it happen cause things happen for a reason." 😐 what has this world come to. Why are men speaking on women issues. And why are people trying to normalize rape to young kids. This is horrible. I wish i immigrated to another continent.
Please leave ur inputs, would love to hear opinions and further dicuss.

« [T]here’s a existential threat: It is climate. We have a crazy SOB like that guy Putin and others, and we always have to worry about nuclear conflict. But the existential threat to humanity is climate. »
— President Joe Biden at a campaign event in San Francisco on Wednesday. From the White House Press Office.
Compare Biden's comments on climate with Trump's intention to go hog-wild with fossil fuel when he becomes a dictator...
"I want to drill, drill, drill.”
A second Trump term would be "horrific" for the planet.
‘In a word, horrific’: Trump’s extreme anti-environment blueprint
Also, that "crazy SOB" Vladimir Putin is doing significant damage to the environment with his war of aggression against Ukraine that started two years ago Saturday.
Ukraine: How the war is poisoning the environment
Russia must pay for the environmental catastrophe it's causing in Ukraine.
In addition to severe environmental damage caused by the war, Putin's Russia is also one of the world's top fossil fuel producers. Putin and a second Trump term could push this planet over the edge.
BREAKING NEWS: Several hundred new sanctions against Russia were just announced by the White House.
US targets Russia with more than 500 new sanctions

Quick rundown of what Project 2025 is gonna do to our rights and stuff [so far, with what i know]
Project 2025 is the extreme right's plan to turn America fully conservative, shifting the government to dictatorship and to be authoritarian.
The project will go into effect when the next republican U.S. president gets elected and steps into office.
It's gonna be a gradual change, all of this isn't going to happen overnight.
Dehumanization of People of Color, LGBTQIA+, AFABs {Assigned Female At Birth}, Disabled, and Neurodivergent people
Transgenderism and trans-related things will be criminalized, due to being "pornographic".
AFABs: Women will become less significant in society, single mothers will be forced to marry, life for women will become closer to what it was like before/during the women's rights movement.
LGBTQIA+ People: Queer marriage will most likely be outlawed/criminalized, dehumanization.
Christianity will be pushed onto people
The FBI will be dismantled, the Department of Justice will become compromised, and they're going to do something to the Department of Education to have more conservative education.

The laboratories of democracy.
Tumblr media
It's been a while since WoW took a look at the governmental insanity raging in those benighted states dominated by Republicans. So let's take a tour of some red states and see what MAGA-addled lawmaking is on the menu.
• A new bill (Senate File 167) introduced in the Iowa legislature would rewrite the state's child labor law to allow kids as young as 14 to be employed in previously prohibited jobs — like working in meatpacking plants; operating power-driven metal punching or shearing machines, band or circular saws, guillotine shears or paper balers; and engaging in roofing operations or demolition work — as long as they're in an "approved" apprenticeship program. The bill also exempts businesses from civil liability if a student is injured or killed on the job.
• In South Carolina, the Prenatal Equal Protection Act (House Bill 3549) currently in the statehouse declares getting an abortion equivalent to committing a homicide, making any woman who gets one eligible for the death penalty.
• Earlier this week, Georgia Republicans passed House Bill 231, creating an oversight committee with "the power to discipline, remove, and cause involuntary retirement of appointed or elected district attorneys." In a related story, Fulton County DA Fani Willis is currently deciding whether to indict Donald Trump for his election tampering in 2020.
• In Tennessee, Republican governor Bill Lee recently signed into law a bill that would restrict public drag shows. And while his state is the first to enact such a law, a total of 14 similar bills have been introduced in eight other states. No word yet on whether women will be prohibited from wearing pants.
• Republicans in Florida have introduced the Information Dissemination Act (Senate Bill 1316) that would force independent journalists who blog about Dear Leader Ron DeSantis, members of his cabinet or the Florida legislature to register with the state or face fines of up to $2,500.
• Finally, another Florida creation (SB 1248) was filed last week. This bill would “immediately cancel” any political party whose platform “previously advocated for, or been in support of, slavery or involuntary servitude.” That's right, it bans the Democratic Party. Any registered Democrat would therefore be notified that their party no longer exists. And, no, we didn't make this one up.
Fortunately, most of these proposals are merely intended either as performance art for exciting the right-wing rubes, or as a means for making slightly less loony ideas seem acceptable. But they do suggest the kind of legislative experiments the mad scientists of MAGA-land are up to.
