Velvet ants are not true ants, but rather wasps. Females are wingless and have a powerful sting while males have wings but are not capable of stinging. Found along the Pacific coast of the United States and Mexico.

Warning! ⚠️ SHOCKINGLY RANDOM. Dasymutilla occidentalis + ⚡️= Static Setae! These two look like they just came out of the dryer, or took a stroll onto a static ball. This was an old concept from 2014. I know, my mind is weird, okay.
More Velvet Ant pictures...who wouldn't want more shots of this Badass Cowkiller? This one from Arkansas sent live in the mail by our correspondent FT. Its good to have such friends. Photos by Wayne Boo.
if lance was a bug he'd be a blue skimmer dragonfly and if keith was a bug he'd be a red velvet ant/cowkiller. Dreamworks let me in
agreed wholeheartedly. hunk would be a carpenter ant, pidge would be a katydid (hehe), coran would be a bumblebee, shiro would be a stickbug, and allura would be a monarch butterfly
Life as a Senior NCO for a Head of Household that can't Provide.
Today boys and girls, I want to talk about Infestation, and how I plan you pull the Homosexual out of the French
Excerpts from the last Flight Training Exercise:
"Now, about that Minimum Wage. You know what I think we should do about that 'forum?' The South? Where the beaches are hot…?
The real issue is that, when the heat starts to rise, you know what all of them are really looking for.
And you look at them again…. All of them listening to the radio… Chasing the American Dream…. The tree frogs at night… And the psychedelics just infest them… With all of the insects.
Militias are actually complete revenge…
Of course, I'm a Senior NCO.
Forging 20,000 Swords…. And I've got 360,000 right behind them.
And I just look at that Interstate. And that thing goes all the way down."

Infestation is a different Queen. Between Fort Knox and Fort Benning.
A Cowkiller crawling under your shirt. A Black widow across your face. Mosquito venom slowly building night after night.
…..And it's NyQuil…. Imagine that….
But you're gonna need a good lantern, and a sword. If you can remember them in their youth.

This is the common name of this group of mutillids or Velvet Ants. Named for their extremely painful sting. Going along with the pain is the fact that it can extend its sting such that it can reach over its back. This is why this species is bright red. It is telling the world that there are consequences to picking it up.
This bad boy, is actually not an ant, rather it is a type of wasp. The males have wings and no sting, the females have no wing, but have the sting. Not sure of the species. This one came from Arkansas from our correspondent FT.
