(this is a bit of a c!tommy apologist neg rant but just a liiiiittle bit, you're good dont worry)
i cant be the only one that finds it weird how a lot of the fandom (cough cough mainly c!tommy apologists that have only watched his pov) babies c!tommy, c!tubbo and c!ranboo... like, i've seen so many takes being like "but c!tommy is just a child!! they're all kids and shouldn't have to deal with this!" and a lot of the times it's just a long way of saying they shouldn't be held accountable (cough, again. especially c!tommy) WHICH IS SO WEIRD bc they talk about it like tommy is 10 or smth but MANS IS 17 LMAO I GUARANTEE YOU HE HAS CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS?? and they'll say this and then immediately go and shit on c!jack WHEN HE'S LITERALLY JUST A YEAR OLDER THAN TOMMY?? i dunno dude it's just weird to see kdjgkj especially as a 17yo myself?? like imagine if when tubbo (and consequentially his character) turns 18 he begins to be given the same treatment as c!jack and will be bashed on for having nukes and shit krjgkdjrbg
i havent seen many ppl talk about this and im sure there are others who feel the same, so that's why i wrote this ask! sorry for the rant though kdjrgkdjg i hope you're doing well! :D
yeah no i completely agree with you !! there are such weird standards of what age excuses Bad Things and what age you become completely fucking irredeemable at LMAO
like ,, ok u wanna start talking about ages ?? (not you btw GENBGDKDH just a general ‘you’)
c!jack is months younger than me. 18. he was sent to hell + killed by his best friend + has his trauma ignored/mocked.
c!niki is less than older than me. 19. she had her home destroyed, lived under a dictatorship, lost her best friend and had to learn to heal by herself.
c!dream!! c!dream is three years older than me. three. he’s 21. which of COURSE makes him a completely responsible adult that totally has matured + has no reason or excuse to ever make a mistake or lapse in judgement ever /sarcasm
it’s like ,, at what age does the audience stop excusing your actions? yes, it’s shitty c!tommy and c!tubbo are so young and have been through hell. but ,, nobody in that server is older than 35 ?? only one person in that server is older than 30 ?? jfc that’s not old, and most of them are still in their teens or have just emerged from their teens 😭 they’re still so young LMAO
i think a lot of it has to do with younger fans who see age differently ig ?? like the other characters seem Old compared to the bench trio and there’s this expectation when you’re younger that by the time you’re 18 or 20 or 25 you’ll have everything sorted out, but then you HIT those ages and you realise ,, it’s so far from true. you make the same mistakes and you’re just as immature as the day you were before ur birthday LMAO, and i guarantee if cc!tommy had accepted cc!wilbur’s “ur in ur early 20s” then c!tommy would not be getting away with half the things he does ,, there’s such a weird standard
the tragedy of the smp is that they’re all young. there’s not a magical line between Kid and Adult, you know ?? ESP in the smp, where we already know the mechanics of the smp don’t apply quite the same as they do irl (mainly because people older than 30 exist irl LMAO)

Tubbo lore my absolute beloved
His acting gets overlooked so often I genuinely believe he’s one of the best when he wants to be. My heart was BREAKING for him today’s stream. Since he hasn’t done lore in a while it’s a little harder to get a read on where his character is at but I’m providing my thoughts anyways
-first of all the SUIT. Man knew what he was doing picking that. The way it represents so many things, everything he had and everything he lost. Some of his best memories and some of the worst? He has so many emotions tied to that suit the same way he does with L’manberg. Him choosing it was a subtle thing I loved to see today.
-the parallels between him and Wilbur both starting by singing the anthem? Mhm I would love to see some people talk about that I’m sure there’s some really interesting stuff there if anyone sees or makes it please send it to me
-the way he’s finally standing up for himself! Like he forgives Wilbur but he doesn’t trust him. He talked about how he used to give away trust so easily and you can see he’s grown guarded, more closed off and forced to protect himself (especially with the nukes but that’s a whole other thing to unpack) I see so many c!Tommy defenders and not nearly enough c! Tubbo defenders. You guys are literally defending the same thing, just in different formats. Tubbo has had so much trauma for ages, especially since the schlatt administration and he’s basically been alone for all of it. After exile Tommy at least had Techno and Phil for a bit, but who did Tubbo have? Quackity? That would only serve to make things worse. And as much as I love his dynamic with ranboo, we all know they lie about most of their problems and refuse to be honest with each other
-how we got that GENUINE EMOTION today! The way you could hear his voice shaking, how he was clearly starting to cry again at the end? I love when he really tries to act, I’m always reminded how good he is
-mhm don’t you worry I am going to talk about that Tubbo and Ranboo conversation at the end and how it ties back to my previous point. You can tell Ranboo knew Tubbo wasn’t ok. I mean it was CLEAR. The way he used the soft tone and the hushed voices. And despite being a wreck, Tubbo pushes him away again. Like Wilbur, he struggles to be open about ANY of his emotions, hiding them, pushing them down to not let people know the true impact. (If we wanted to tie this back to the prison lore stream after tommy dies and how dismissive Tubbo was of that just to be fun and angsty we totally could. Not letting people know who’s important or what’s important, making sure no one has any power over him? Tommy was so clearly his one weakness for so long, so if he acts dismissive when he dies then he seems to have none. I’m aware this was not the intention but I like to be fun and angsty <3 ) ANYWAYS. Watching Tubbo push him away as Wilbur calls him? Yeah, tell me that didn’t feel like him being left all over again. This is not the first time someone close to him (cough cough, Tommy) has been gone with Wilbur and left him alone. He can already see it happening, so he pushes Ranboo away before he gets close, before he can show that weakness again. I’m sure he probably resents Wilbur a bit for “taking ranboo” away from him too.
-TUBBO_ THANK YOU FOR GIVING US MORE ANGST. Canonizing nightmares of his execution and of the 16th?? Oh I am SO excited to see the art and animatics that come from that. I love how it addresses the fact Tubbo went through a serious amount of trauma and really should have problems from it. Like yes let’s address that we don’t just leave that untouched.
Anyways Tubbo’s character is incredibly interesting and deserves more hype like there’s so much going on there. Even if it isn’t super lore heavy the POSSIBILITIES just given the small bits of angst we get? The growth is very interesting to watch and I find it fascinating to see how people respond differently to Tubbo, tommy and Wilbur reacting to their mental health.
Hot take! /s. None of them are villains. All of them made bad choices because of their mental problems and trauma, and all of them are struggling and don’t want to be stuck like this. If you’re an apologist for one of the three of them but not the others than like. I’m curious why /gen. It’s very similar situations, they just react to situations differently. I don’t know I just find it interesting how people can be so supportive of one and hate the other so much. They all made mistakes and no one is asking you to forgive them. Just keep it in mind when referring to their characters and their actions.
Mhm that’s all tangent over for now :)

Oh!!
What about Dream?
Tumblr media
(Thank you for enjoying my work!)
I am not a c!Dream apologist. But I am a c!Dream sympathizer. I don’t excuse his actions but I acknowledge that he is traumatized and hurting. I debated on if I wanted to write a prison visit or not, but I had an idea that stuck.
A quick note to the fact that this is more graphic than the others so far! It contains the described aftermath of torture and gore. Be careful!
He did not go to the prison expecting to be let in. Foolish had fully expected Sam to entirely decline him. He expected to approach the warden, ask to be let into the prison, and immediately be told no. As far as he knew, the prison wasn’t allowing visitors. When a prisoner kills a man within the walls of the prison, they’re traditionally refused visitation rights.
Much to his surprise… this was not what happened. He’d walked up to Sam, asked the question, and watched Sam’s eyes grow weary. Not a word more was shared between them as Foolish was led to the entrance of Pandora's Vault. No words were spoken between either of them other than direction and confirmation.
This, admittedly, made the totem god a bit nervous. The expression Sam wore was not one of a hardened prison warden, but instead of someone who expected the worst. Foolish knew he was powerful, but he meant no harm. Sam knew this, he did, he’d told him just that. Still… the warden was scared of him. He’d seen divine intervention. Maybe he didn’t believe that Foolish was peaceful.
He shook his head, reciting what was asked of him and signing his name in books, as required. Or, well, he signed “Foolish”. While it would have been more proper to sign his formal name, a god sharing their title was much more dangerous in text than it was verbally- and he was even hesitant to say it aloud. Everyone here knew him by the name, it was tied to him in this place, so there should be no issue with that.
The first and only break from the call and response came when Foolish was standing on the platform before the lava lowered. Sam cleared his throat, getting his attention. His eyes were stormy despite a mostly blank expression. And then he passed the god his sword. Warden’s Will glinted, runes flicking in the light and displaying how utterly dangerous it was. Foolish was confused. Wasn’t the whole point to not have weapons in the cell? Nothing the prisoner could use to escape?
“Wh-”
“If you’re here, I’m sure there’s a reason that will be aided by this weapon.”
“No.” Foolish said sternly, eyes narrowed,” I will go into the cell empty handed, as intended. He cannot kill me in a way that matters, I will be fine. Lower the lava, warden. Keep your blade.”
He was shocked at his own bite. The god of Undying was not a violent man. In many ways, he was a pacifist. He had not and would not kill, maim, or otherwise permanently harm another person in this place. Much less the man in that cell.
“Very well.”
And so the lava lowered.
“Don’t forget to move with the platform.”
Foolish moved with the platform. The bubbling and overwhelmingly bright lava beneath him and to his sides was scorching. His golden form didn’t react to high temperatures like other golds might, but he was certainly very glad he’d left the golden blocks on him in storage. They would not be as lucky as the god in the heat.
The move between behind and forwards seemed to take an eternity. And he certainly knew what eternity felt like. His heart drummed steadily in his chest. Part of him was… worried about this. Puffy had convinced him to go, just in case. If nothing else but for closure, if nothing more than for acknowledgement. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting as he stepped off the platform and to the other side.
It was not this.
He was still kept from direct entry as the lava closed behind him. How long it’d last, he was unsure. What he noticed immediately, though, was the fact that there was no real reaction from the man in the prison. In fact, he seemed to be… cowering. Curled up in a corner, breath quick.
The room smelled of blood. Foolish had expected this, from Tommy’s death. Blood was difficult to get out of obsidian. The only issue with that was, well, the fact that it smelled much too fresh to be from Tommy’s death.
The barrier keeping him from entering the cell lowered and he took a step inside.
“You’re not…” the voice was weak and strained, maybe from lack of use, maybe from shouting,” You’re not allowed to come twice in the same day. That was- that was the one rule, Quacki…”
Dream’s voice died in his throat as he turned. An emerald eye grew wide behind a ruined mask, from terror and a flash of relief and then terror but worse all at once. Foolish made no effort to approach the man for fear of scaring him worse.
Torture. As a god, he was more than familiar with watching it, seeing it’s effects. That did nothing to keep him from feeling ill. He was not a violent man. Seeing the cruel effects of torment made this stance all the more firm.
“Dream…” He started, voice softer than he knew it could be, and then to himself,” Is this why Sam tried to give me his sword? Did he expect me to mutilate a man who has no way to defend himself?”
The prisoner’s body stiffened and his eyes rapidly scanned Foolish’s body. “The- the sword? You don’t- don’t come any closer! Don’t come an- don’t get closer!”
Foolish backed up as much as he could, back firmly against a wall. He raised his arms in surrender and made sure to not make direct eye contact with Dream. He’d have to make a conscious effort not to move too much or too quickly, it seemed. Which was easier said than done for a shark.
“I have no weapons on me. I refused the warden’s blade. I am here to speak to you.” A beat,” Papa Puffy wanted to… Captain Puffy says hi.” “I thought she disowned me.”
“She… she did.”
“Then- then why-” Dream broke into a fit of coughs, sputtering weakly into his arm. He drew his mouth away and a trail of blood followed. Internal bleeding?
“I came here because fate willed it… She wasn’t entirely wrong to call us brothers, you know. The Protector and I are brothers in essence. And you are him, in a sense. A reincarnation of a being that isn’t dead.” Foolish sighed,” You’re no god, I hope you know that. But you are kin with gods.”
“Why are you telling me this.”
“You’re… the treatment you’re getting in this place has escalated. People plot to kill you. Do you have any idea how many want you dead?” -Dream scoffed at this- “They want knowledge from you. Can you provide them it?”
A beat.
“The Revive Book was not your property. Nor was it Schlatt’s. Misusing it will have consequences, Swan.”
“That isn’t-"
“It’s better than the ugly duckling.”
Foolish didn’t process that Dream had gotten closer to him until he was tugging at the god’s pant leg. The closer look at him showed how worse for wear the man was. Blood matted his hair, the eye hidden behind his mask was black and swollen, his lip was busted. He could tell by the way he breathed that he had at least one broken rib. All in all Dream looked… Pitiful.
“Don’t let them kill me. I- don’t let th-”
“I can’t promise you that.”
“Please,” he begged, collapsing in front of the deity. Foolish’s heart twisted in his chest.
He sunk to the ground and ran a hand down the prisoner’s back. He couldn’t do much, but he could prevent death from a punctured lung. As his hand moved, he made as much a miracle as he could. A pained gasp from Dream told him that the rib had been moved back into place. Foolish brought his hand back up, healing the swollen eye and clearing some blood from the man’s hair. The heaviness of exhaustion loomed over him.
“I can’t promise to protect you forever. You are mortal, you will die one day. But today, I can make it so you can rest easier.”

You know what? I just realised that the Red Egg is just another morally gray character who’s actually justified in it’s action if you look at them from it’s point of view...
(Just a disclaimer: this whole post will be sarcastic and made to point out some inconsistencies I’ve seen in various apologists arguments, I’ll try to make it clear troughout, but still, bear this in mind. It is also a critique of the FANDOM and NOT OF THE CHARACTERS)
Now you’ll ask: how can we justify the actions of a manipulative weird ass Egg/plant thing that feeds on human flesh and is Hell bent on world domination? Well, you’ll see that some arguments can be made in favour of it that are absolutely identical to some of the most popular ones that have been made about other well known characters (such as c!Dream or c!Techno, maybe others... I’ll see as I go).
Discussion under the cut... this will be a long one.
First argument: The Egg was always clear about it’s intentions. The Egg never hid from it’s followers (or allies if you may, after all power imbalance is rarely taken into account when analyzing relationships in this fandom...) that it’s objective was to expand, eat and unify the server under it’s guidance. This in and of itself, of course, already justifies somewhat the Eggs actions (after all, this argument is what “justified” Techno’s actions on november 16th and forward, why shouldn’t we apply it to other characters?). Honesty after all is always a good justifications for someone’s wrongdoings, no matter their impact on others.
Second argument: The Egg’s true objective is unity, which is ultimately good. How do we know that’s the Eggs true objective? Well, it’s the one that BBH, main interpreter of the Egg, insists most about. The Egg followers want to create unity under the Egg, easy as that. And unity being necessarily a good thing (as told to us by Ranboo with his “no sides” ideals and Dream with his “one big happy famaily” statement) means that the Egg at least got good intentions. Also wanting to unite people under your rule or system of belief is in no way tyrannical or wrong, and violence is always justified if your objective is ultimately positive (this is why, after all, neither Dream nor Techno or Phil were in the wrong when imposing their ideologies on others trough means of extreme violence and this is why Dream’s actions can not be defined as tyrannical while his ultimate objective was ultimate control)
You may wonder though, before we get to the next point, how can we just entirely trust the Eggs words with absolutly no critical analysis of it’s actions and without consulting any pov external from that of it’s followers? Well, that’s simply because we have absolutely no reason to believe the Egg is in any way an unreliable narrator, therefore we can take anything it says, either out loud or to it’s followers, as the absolute truth. Also we can assume without watching any external pov that anyone opposing the Egg is inherently biased, therefore it’s entirely useless to try and understand their point of view. (We have other examples of character like this in the story already, such as: Technoblade, Phil and Dream. Any statement they make can be taken as absolute fact regarding their motivation, actions or ideologies and any statement opposing what they say is to be discarded as biased or worthless)
Third argument: The Egg has given a lot to it’s followers, therefore is deserving of their absolute loyalty and it’s absolutely justified in harming them in retaliation if they shift sides (aka if they betray it). Now, I know what you’re thinking: “This sounds very manipulative and not okay, you can’t simply buy someone’s loyalty or friendship! They shouldn’t owe you if you give them something freely!”... well... you’re wrong. The Egg has given them so much! It gave them the power to achieve any of their desires and offers to do so for anyone who’d follow it. It even helped BBH when his best friend Skeppy got infected by healing him and giving BBH a cause to believe in and a group to belong to. It did so for Ant and Punz too, as well as trying to do so for many others. It just asked for their love in exchange! Can’t believe some people like Puffy would just stop loving it once she recognized that that relationship had changed her into someone she didn’t want to be! The Egg is fully justified in wanting her dead after her betrayal... (much like Techno and Phil were absolutely justified in Doomsday and in working with Dream as Tommy had betrayed them with no valid motivation whatsoever. If they’d killed him as he was on his last life they’d also be justified)
Some may wonder why is the Egg also justified in wanting to kill Tommy or in hurting Sam since they never technically betrayed it? Well, Tommy is annoying (God this actually hurts to write, it’s so damn stupid) and also a liability. For the Greater Good some sacrifices must be made and it’s fine for things to get destroyed or people to die as long as it is for a just cause. Also Sam getting hurt was just an unfortunate but necessary thing for him to learn his lesson not to oppose the Egg and be a hinderance for it. (Again: the abolishment of governaments was the ultimate and undoubtedly good objective of both Doomsday and the November 16th war which makes any and all casualties and propriety damage in both of this events excusable. Also it has been proven already that the only True and Right way to teach a “lesson” is trough violence by characters such as: Dream, Phil, Techno, Niki and Jack and confirmed by: Ranboo and Hbomb, we can therefore assume that this is true and also justified. If a character is considered an annoyance the justification points for using violence to teach them a lesson is doubled!)
Fourth argument: The Egg has often been used or talked about as a tool to get power, this is dehumanizing and it grants it free range to utterly detroy anyone who it percieves to have done so. While the precedent for this point is very muddled and hard to prove and The Egg has only gone after one of the people (Tommy) who wanted to use it for profit, it’s still worth pointing out and can be used as an excuse later on. Do we have no proofs of this happening? Do people start actually considering it a living breathing evil creature as soon as it shows to not be an inanimate plant and actually start immediately treating it as such? Has this never been pointed out by the Egg or it’s followers and has the Egg never expressed feeling uncomfortable with people’s views of it as well as ingoraging some of them itself? None of this matters! As long as The Egg starts expressing a belief that this happened way after with nothing to back it up it will still be to be taken at face value and it will be a valid reason to demonize any and all people who oppose it! (While an argument can actually be made for the Egg being dehumanized as it in no way, shape or form presents any similarities to an actual human, not from a moral, psychological or physical point of view, there are actually 0 proofs of this happening with our precedent for this point which is Techno, aside from his say so, this point is, however, just as valid for him. It doesn’t matter if something never happened as long as Techno perceives it as if it did).
The trauma that the dehumanization and betrayals may have caused could also be used as a further justification for all of the Eggs actions, though only if it is shown in the most mainstream and romanticized version of it and none of the ugly/debilitating aspects of ptsd are ever presented in any way (*cough* Ranboo, Techno and Phil to varying degrees *cough*), we don’t want such a sympathetic character lashing out, not being Sad all the time, shutting people off, being rude, being brash or talk too loudly, it would just ruin it all for everybody. Also the trauma should possibly not affect it in any significant ways and never actually be brought up if not in eloquent monologues to other characters for maximum effect (*cough* Techno again *cough*)
So, let’s recap: The Egg may be considered morally gray (no more or less then other characters though as only one shade of gray exists) as it did some things that may be perceived as excessive (mostly harming Sam as he is a conventionally likeable character who also has no amnesia or other mental health issues and, therefore, is the only type of character who’s feelings should be taken into account), but it’s mostly justified in it’s doings.
If none of this arguments seem to make sense and you think they don’t excuse the Egg’s actions (aka a demonic being with no sense of human morals) they should also be considered utterly worthless for any other character (all of them way more worthy of being held accountable for thir own actions) as well...
