baffled at how 1990s keeps winning "best decade for fashion" polls like is it just bc more people on here are old enough to remember it? bc if you ask me it's very obvious that the best decades of the 20th century for fashion were the 1900s, the 1950s and the 1970s

#soapbox #30s also good and 60s had its moments #1900s i just love the evening gowns so much they're so glamourous #and 70s i like most of it but especially that whole gunne sax/laura ashley 70s does edwardian thing #for 50s i think some of it is overdone but i like the new look and a lot of the fun twirly dance dresses they had back then #i also thing edith head's film costume designs peaked in the 50s bc imo her aesthetic sensibility is very suited to what was popular then #so like everyting she ever designed for grace kelly in any of the 3 hitchcock movies she's in is incredible #i also have a strong interest in film costumes as far as fashion goes #& i think the increased use of technicolour in the 50s rly helped create some truly incredible pieces during that decade #thinking of like the costumes in gentlemen prefer blondes and how to marry a millionaire and stuff

Goncharov Costume Dump: pairing an: a) brown and white chalk-stripe suit with: (b) a navy and cream pin-dot tie, and (c) black overcoat and hat layers complexity of intention and effort to conceal and reveal the true essence of his character. Notice that the topcoat is always a military-issue double-breasted closure; Goncharov can never full divest himself of his past.

This level of intentional power-clashing directly inflenced the navy-and-black battle hawk ensemble on Earl Rivers in the 2016 "Richard III"
