#cost of living in salt lake city utah
Scumbag will either run for president again or live off the hundreds of millions he has in secret offshore accounts that he jokes about. This man acquired his wealth by busting unions, shutting down massive companies, and leaving tens of thousands without jobs and lost pensions.
Don’t ever think he’s a moderate or on our side because he had a personal squabble with Trunt. This clown was paying undocumented migrants less than 2$ an hour to clean his mansions and landscape their grounds. He was once called out by the press for paying less in taxes than the secretaries in his businesses and his response was to laugh hysterically. He also had no idea what a loaf of bread or a gallon of gas costs. When asked what charities he donated to he said none and his wife interjected that he once gave some old clothes to a member of his Mormon parish.
He won the governorship of Massachusetts while his residence was in Salt Lake City and later joked about that as well. He spent nearly his whole time as governor out of state on the right-wing lecture circuit trashing what he liked to call “the People’s Republic of Massachusetts” in preparation for his failed presidential campaign against Obama. During that campaign he became the largest all-time recipient of NRA money. He votes MAGA 100% of the time except for voting to impeach Trunt out of spite because Trunt mocked him. He still laughs and brags about not having to pay taxes on the hundreds of millions sitting in those shadowy offshore accounts.
He’s no great businessman either. More than half of his dealings have lost money. The few that were successful however massively overshadowed the numerous lesser failings. He may not be as crass as most MAGAts but he’s one of their most heinous politicians of all time and an oligarch with a long history of cheating the system and exploiting the vulnerable masses.
Eff him!

Above is Cara Despain's installation for the 2023 Florida Prize in Contemporary art at the Orlando Museum of Art. Her work feels especially timely with the recent release of Oppenheimer, a film about the scientist who led the effort to create the first atomic bomb. Her installation for this show is captivating- eerie glowing green glassware  surrounds the entrance to a mesmerizing video installation, Test of Faith, where atomic explosions fill three walls as a Mormon hymn plays.
The museum's information on the artist and her work-
Miami-based artist Cara Despain was born and raised in Salt Lake City, and the experience of growing up in the West informs much of her work. Through video, sculpture, photography, and installation she critiques a range of issues pertinent to the region that are also internationally relevant. These issues stem in part from the nineteenth-century concept of Manifest Destiny, the belief that Providence intended for American civilization to extend across the continent and benefit from all its yet untapped resources. That philosophy gave rise to such virtues associated with the character of the American West as optimism, independence, and self-reliance. It also engendered an unchecked hubris which has sometimes had tragic consequences. Among these unintended consequences are the human and environmental costs of atmospheric nuclear weapons testing from 1945-1962 which polluted vast areas of the West and inflicted disease and death on many of the region's residents. Being from this region and having family that lived there during those tests, Despain has long had a deep concern about lingering effects of this exposure for the people downwind.
Despain's two-part installation begins with six cabinets of glowing green glassware. This inexpensive Depression-era glass was popular for its vibrant green color. As a bonus, the glass is fluorescent and glows hauntingly in the dark under ultraviolet light. This seductive coloration is ominous, though, being produced by adding small amounts of uranium oxide to the glass mixture. While now we would not consider using radioactive dinnerware, Despain is demonstrating our once innocent relationship with this toxic element that made the atomic age possible.
The domestic, fragile uranium glass flanks the entrance to Test of Faith, an immersive video installation that is menacing and enthralling. The room is filled with a series of atomic explosions edited from vintage nuclear test footage from the Nevada Test Site, which was less than 150 miles from where her family in southern Utah originates. Projected simultaneously on three walls, billowing clouds in swirling tones of blue, green, and yellow build to a crescendo then fade before the next explosion. To heighten the darkly supernatural sensation, Despain shows each mushroom cloud divided in mirror form like Rorschach inkblots and we are left to see within these abstract patterns our own fears and trepidations. Accompanying this vision of cosmic destruction is the sound of the Mormon hymn "Love One Another" rising and falling in step with each detonation. The digitally altered synthetic timbre of the song completes the experience of facing the apocalypse and is reference to the insidious appeal to the assumed patriotism and obedient nature of the largely Mormon and ranching populations in the fallout region to support the testing.
Today, nuclear weapons testing may seem like a remote episode in American history associated with the Cold War and the once alarming spread of global Communism. Despain's work is intended to remind us that the nuclear threat is still present, with more nations than ever expanding their arsenals or developing and testing new weapons.

This is long, but an explanation.
Seb saying he’s from Wasatch County will never not bug me, (at least until they explain it.) He could have just been born in a hospital there but that doesn’t really fit. They could of made-up a hospital name or place instead of just naming a county they don’t live in. Since they live and film in Salt Lake, that can’t even be a research mistake.
I know it probably sounds better to say a farm is in a County and not a city, but Salt Lake City is not in Wasatch County. East High School is not in the Wasatch County School District.
They don’t always follow city/town lines but everywhere has a school district. If that district is big enough for multiple schools, each of those schools has a zone. You can’t just pick and choose what school you go to, while you can switch, it cost - a lot.
Some people were wondering why Lily didn’t go to North High originally if it had the better theater department. The answer, her home address is designated for East High and unless she has a relative, she can borrow a home address from, she is had to transfer, (Edit: I don’t know if switching schools in district is different than out of district, but it is possible that she is paying thousands of dollars to go to North High.)
I think the show has made it clear that Seb can’t do that. Some of the characters could but not Seb. If he lived in Wasatch County, he would be paying, possibly up to $10,000 a year to attend East High School.
He could get around having to pay if he was a staff kid. Staff kids can attend school in the district their parent works for free, even through college. Though, since for college, you have to apply and be accepted, they can’t kick you out. For K - 12, if they don’t have space, you get bounced.
This could work if they want to keep the North High thing going but replenish the students after Howie went to college and Antoine is most likely back in France. However, he does say he’s from Wasatch County while at his own house and to me that would seem a bit weird. To be in Wasatch County and say you came from Wasatch County.
Most likely, he moved. Moving an entire farm seems like an even bigger hassle than moving normally is, I feel like it has to be mentioned at some point. You can’t just accidently mess up the county you spend months living and filming in and enough of those writers and producers have to understand school districts. (Also, that seems like a far drive with the Wasatch Mountains in between.) They could just mention it in passing, but that’s a big set up and I want to learn more about Seb’s life in Wasatch!
EDIT: After some digging, I’ve discovered that apparently Utah is of a handful of states where you can apply and attend any public school across the state for free, you just have to get there yourself.
I guess he just did an inter transfer instead of an intra, that was Lily... sorry, Google rabbit holes.
I still want to know more about his life in Wasatch.

Biography
Styles McKenzie Corbyn was born on June 2nd, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Malakai and Rainey Corbyn. Styles is one of their seven kids, having three older siblings and three younger siblings. Being the middle child isn’t always his cup of tea and having six other siblings can be chaotic but for most parts, Tye doesn’t mind it. It just helps him get away with more and he’d never truly be alone, yet he dislikes feeling invisible at times and finds it annoying at times that he has to share some of this things. But he wouldn’t change anything for anything in the world.
Styles was raised in Salt Lake City up until the end of summer before he started eighth grade, then his father moved them to Hawkins, Indiana after an incident with his twin brother, Nikolai. An incident that had almost cost Tye his life, let alone almost got him taken. His uncle’s recklessness caused a major fight to break out between the twins and afterwards, his father decided to relocate them to somewhere his brother wouldn’t find them. Which when Ty found out about the move, it had upset him. The last thing he wanted was to leave his best friend or any of his friends for that matter, honestly didn’t understand why he was being punished for his uncle's recklessness, He was so upset, he spent a week trying to convince his best friend’s to move as well so he wouldn’t be without them instead of packing. Refused to pack, hoping his parents would change their mind so he didn’t have to leave behind everything and everyone he knew. But when everything he tried became clear that their was no point in resisting or trying to convince his friend’s parents to move, he stopped fighting it and just packed. Yet on the last day, Styles and his best friend ran away. Snuck into an abandoned house and was planning on staying there, although turned out the house was haunted, Which Tye found cool, his best friend not so much. So they ended up leaving the next morning, however it wasn’t long after that when his older brother found him and dragged them home. They both ended up getting grounded for a week and half for their little stunt and despite their stunt, Styles still ended up moving, just a day later than planned.
For the first couple of months of living in Hawkins, the male became a loner. Shutting everyone out, refusing to make friends. All he wanted was to go back to Utah, so much so that he fell into a bit of depression. It was only after a month and half of the school year that he began making friends, especially when it looked like he drew in the attention of a couple of people who seemed determined to get to know him. Which Styles was grateful for because soon enough they became his best friends and they made middle school and high school much more tolerable, made living in Hawkins much more tolerable.
Personality
Styles is quite sarcastic and rebellious, someone who doesn’t have any fucks to give. He highly intelligent and creative but he is a bit over imaginative for his own good, he is also very straightforward for his own good at times. Tye loves pull pranks and loves to cause mischief, however he’d never go as far as to harm someone. He loves comic books and music, especially loves to read comics while listening to music. He absolutely loves adventures and being outdoors, loves to rollerblade and skateboard, as well as hike and camp. He loves spooky things, especially haunted places. He also loves finding treasures, especially the ones connected with history. He loves both of those things so much that his dream job is to be a treasure hunter and a ghost hunter.
Styles is ambitious and stubborn, a reckless fun-loving daredevil who isn’t scared to take risks. He’s determined, hard-working, and resourceful. He’s quite a charmer when he wants to be, can be quite an asshole at times. There are times when he can be highly impulsive but he is very energetic and playful, as well as passionate. He is confident most of the time but the male has his moments where he is insecure and self-conscious, he can get a bit anxious at times as well. He’s extremely loyal to the people he loves and cares about, he’d do anything for them, even die for them if it meant protecting them.
Styles can be over dramatic, he’s proven this countless of times. Especially after his father announced that he was going to run for mayor after Larry was put away, saying he would die from the pressure of having to be perfect. Which is ironic because he can be quite a perfectionist at times. The male can be a bit egotistical but he has a pure heart.

Spring Trip: Journey to DIA
After a long winter in freezing temperatures and many annoying phone calls I was finally free to take a couple days off and travel! I had already requested Monday and Tuesday off so that I could go to Denver and see Jxdn in concert, a new artist I had discovered and loved all of his songs. In May we were short staffed and were thus going to be open only Monday to Friday so this meant I had four days off in a row lined up. In order to utilise this, and since I was already going to Denver, I jumped on Skyscanner and booked myself the cheapest round trip flight available on that weekend - I’d be going to Salt Lake City in Utah! My flights had cost a delightful $43 and I’d lined up accommodation for about $80 a night on average which for the USA is fairly cheap since they don’t have big hostel culture. After work on Friday I headed off on my journey taking the bus into Frisco and connecting on the Bustang into Denver’s Union Station. There was a screaming child the entire way so luckily the driver was flooring it on I-70 until it was eventually removed at Lakewood on the outskirts of Denver. I arrived in Denver around 6pm to delightfully warm weather and swarms of fans heading to Coors Field to watch the baseball game. This was my first opportunity to have a walk around Denver’s downtown and I was loving the street art everywhere. Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs served me up a delicious hot dog for dinner and then I carried on walking around, landing in Larimer Square right on sunset to see the lights and live music of a festive pedestrian only street - America needs more of these! By the time I reached Union Station it was darker and the station was lit up nicely for a photo. I bought a train ticket out towards the airport for $5.25 and hopped off one stop before Denver International to walk through 20 minutes of dark nothingness to my “airport hotel”. It was completely isolated except for other airport hotels and water was $3 a bottle (oh but coke was $1.50!) but the room was clean and comfortable. The front desk booked me a shuttle to the airport for 5am and I headed to bed early to rest up for my adventure.

The Aftermath of a Crippling Cyberattack on the US Change Healthcare Provider
Tumblr media
The U.S. healthcare sector has been reeling in the aftermath of a devastating attack on Change Healthcare, the nation's largest medical claims clearinghouse. The attack, described by the American Hospital Association as "the most serious incident of its kind" to strike the industry, has had a severe and far-reaching impact, crippling revenue flow for medical providers across the country.
Ransomware Disruption and Investigations
The ransomware group ALPHV, also known as BlackCat, has claimed responsibility for the attack, which forced Change Healthcare to disconnect more than 100 of its systems on February 21st. Since then, the company has been unable to process medical claims through its primary platforms. UnitedHealth Group, the owner of Change Healthcare, is now under investigation by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) over its handling of patient data amid the ransomware incident.
Devastation for Healthcare Providers
The fallout from the attack has pushed many healthcare organizations to the brink of closure. Physician-owned medical groups, psychiatry practices, and private practitioners across the U.S. have seen their cash flow dry up, forcing some to furlough staff or dip into their funds to meet payroll. A Pennsylvania care home, the Jefferson Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, even cited the cyberattack as one of the reasons for shutting its doors.
Ripple Effects Across the Industry
The impact of the Change Healthcare outage has been felt far and wide. Dr. Bryan Turner, a family medicine physician in Salt Lake City, Utah, described the situation as "a disaster," with his practice considering taking out a loan to cover expenses. In Pennsylvania, the Kane Community Living Centers were informed of Jefferson Hills' closure and had to transfer 35 patients to their senior centers on short notice. Change Healthcare has been working diligently to restore its various platforms and services. As of March 7th, the company's pharmacy services were largely back online, and its electronic funds transfer platform went live on March 15th. The Assurance platform for claims preparation was back online as of March 18th, and as of March 22nd, the company had staged $14 billion in claims, ready for transmission. The healthcare provider has been collaborating with major technology firms, including Alphabet's Mandiant and Palo Alto, to provide attestations that its systems are secure and ready for a full resumption of operations. The company has also been working closely with payers and other clearinghouses to ensure there is enough capacity to handle the expected surge in claims.
UnitedHealth's Response and Emergency Funding
UnitedHealth Group, the owner of Change Healthcare, has expressed a "deep sense of responsibility for recovery" and is working to ensure that healthcare providers can continue to care for their patients and run their practices. The company has launched an emergency funding program, providing interest- and fee-free loans to struggling medical providers. However, some applicants have initially reported that the funds offered were tiny compared to their expenses.
Financial Toll on the Industry
The financial impact of the Change Healthcare cyberattack on the healthcare industry has been staggering. An American Hospital Association (AHA) survey of 1,000 hospitals found that 60% of respondents said the impact on revenue was $1 million or more per day. The Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association estimates the outage is costing the state's healthcare system around $24.2 million per day. The federal government has taken several steps to address the crisis. The HHS has launched an investigation into the incident to determine whether hackers breached patient data and if UnitedHealth complied with health privacy laws. Lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Maggie Hassan, Senator Mark Warner, and Representative Ruben Gallego, have also become increasingly involved, issuing statements and sending letters to federal agencies. In response to the crisis, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has said it will accept applications for accelerated payments, similar to a program implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, on a case-by-case basis. The agency has also stated that prior authorization requirements should be waived for the duration of the outage.
Ongoing Challenges and the Path Forward
As the healthcare industry works to recover from the devastating effects of the Change Healthcare cyberattack, the road ahead remains challenging. With the financial toll estimated to be in the millions of dollars per day for many providers, the long-term impact of this incident is yet to be fully understood. However, the collaborative efforts of healthcare organizations, technology firms, and the federal government suggest a determination to support the industry and ensure the continuity of care for patients across the United States. These images are of the graves for Michael Cavanaugh, who died in 1881 at the age fo 45 (it might be hard to read for you), and Peter C. Tomney, who passed in 1920 at the age of 35.
Michael and Peter are not related. However, Michael was married to a woman named Sidney Rebecca Lowry, who remarried about two years after his death to a man named Peter Tomney (not the one buried here), and had this Peter around 1884. She died in 1896 and I am guessing Peter Jr.'s family chose to bury him here because there was room and the stone looked super nice.
The crown above Peter's side does look pretty awesome but I'm not entirely convinced that it was the original marker for Michael. I believe the marker was added on after Peter's death simply because of the condition of the stone itself. The crown and cross are a symbol used to signify a person's attachment to Christianity. But it's also sometimes used by the York Rite Masons to symbolize power and authority. Given how little there is on Peter Jr., I think it's fair to assume he wasn't that powerful or authoritative.
In fact, the use of the cross was common during this early period in Utah, so it's not really a stretch to think that. However, this is still an assumption on my part, based on what information I was able to find on Peter and Michael both.
The crown is what got me out of the car, as I hadn't seen that before. As I got closer, I noticed that the top of the stone looked like it had something else on top of it. It could have been a cross or a tree. As you can see in some of the pictures, there is a leaf and an acorn at the base of the missing part, which lends itself to the idea that it was a tree, cut down to a log. This is meant to symbolize a life cut short.
I really liked the clarity of the symbolic crown and cross, and it's a bummer that the stone is damaged. However, damage is not uncommon in graveyards.
This particular graveyard is owned and run by Salt Lake City and is one of the oldest municipal cemeteries in the western United States. A lot of the stones are damaged due to the weather in the Utah region. There is a lot of wind, rain, snow, hail, and blistering heat in this area. The cemetery is located on a high hillside that overlooks the valley as well. Weather and time will usually have a pretty strong impact on things.
It may be unaffordable for families to repair or replace the markers for their ancestors or recently deceased. There are examples where stones were replaced by descendants or where additional stones are placed in front of the original markers. The LDS Community is very active in researching and embracing their ancestry and in some cases, you can see that in the way older graves are cared for. Bottom line though, because it is expensive to purchase a headstone, replacing an older illegible marker may not be financially feasible for a family.
A lack of care is not always because the family doesn't care about their ancestors. It is often that the family has to prioritize the cost of caring for the living over the dead.

Before you start the home search process, it's essential to take some time to plan and strategize. Here are five tips to help you find the perfect home in Salt Lake City.
Work With a Top-Notch Real Estate Agent:
Finding a reputable real estate agent should be your top priority. Realtors with excellent market knowledge about Salt Lake City can identify neighborhoods that meet your needs and budget. A good realtor will have excellent negotiation skills when making an offer, finding the best mortgage rates, and helping you navigate the legal process of closing a home. So, be sure to research and hire an experienced and licensed real estate agent to work with you through the buying process.
Determine Your Priorities:
What do you want in homes for sale near Salt lake city? List your must-haves, size, location, number of rooms, and amenities. Prioritizing your list of necessities can help you and your real estate agent narrow your search and find your dream home that ticks most, if not all, of your boxes.
Visit Your Top Picks, and Attend Open Houses:
Once you have identified your ideal neighborhoods, it is essential to visit each one and take the time to explore each home that meets your needs. Visiting each district can give you a feel for the community, its ambiance, safety, and how welcoming it is. Additionally, you'll be able to speak with the neighbors and learn about the school district and local amenities. You can also attend open houses in the area to see more options and make comparisons, focus on the pros and cons of each home, and get an idea of what the houses in these neighborhoods are worth.
Budget and Financing:
Purchasing homes for sale near salt lake city is a significant investment, so you must consider your budget and financing. Knowing your budget can help save you valuable time in your search for homes, increasing your chances of finding a house that suits your financial plan. Before looking at homes for sale in Salt Lake City, clearly understand how much you'd like to spend. Also, consider your financing options, including how much mortgage you'll need, your loan rates, and the down payment. Speak with a mortgage lender and get pre-approved, which shows sellers that you're a serious buyer.
Inspection and Appraisal:
Ensure you have each home you're considering inspected to know any hidden damage that might affect the value of a property. The appraisal will help you identify the market value of homes in the neighborhood and prevent you from overpaying for a property. Additionally, an inspection will reveal any repairs required, giving you an idea of the potential costs once you own the house.
Invest in Tech and Environmentally-Friendly Homes:
Today, tech and environmentally-friendly homes for sale near salt lake city are a great investment. Making sure your home is energy efficient and installing the latest smart technology can help you save on monthly bills while adding value to your property. Converting to solar energy, investing in energy-efficient HVAC systems, and upgrading insulation are some ways to make your home better for the environment.
Make an Offer:
Once you have found the perfect home, it's time to make an offer. Your real estate agent can help with this process by advising on how much to offer and negotiating for the best deal. After both parties agree, you'll be ready to finalize all legal paperwork and close the deal.
Close the Deal:
The last step in buying a home is closing the deal. Once all the paperwork has been signed, you'll be ready to move into your new home. Throughout this process, working with an experienced real estate agent and specialists like a mortgage lender who can guide you through every step and ensure the process goes smoothly is essential.
