Do you ever think about how Heartrenders are the only Grisha to wear kefta adorned with black?
What if it's meant to be an acknowledgement of Aleksander's paternity? Baghra refused to share any information about his father, but later she claims he was a powerful Heartrender. Sure, she could've lied, but she could've said the same to Aleksander too, when he got too annoying one day.
When Second Army was established, it was too late to even look for the man, so the Darkling honored him by sharing his own colour with his father's "kind".

Grishaverse knitting projects update:
On the one hand, terrible news, I made a major mistake in the six of crows blanket - like so bad that I actually have to undo everything I’ve done so far and restart. I’m really annoyed about this but luckily I’m not too far in and hopefully it will now be far more successful
On the other hand, more fun news, the Kefta I’m knitting (did I tell you guys about that? I can’t remember lol, but yeah I’m knitting a Kefta/kefta-inspired cardigan) is going wonderfully so I just need to make the sleeves and then begin the absolutely terrifying task of the embroidery. I am not good at embroidery; I’m very scared - but very excited too!

My Favorite Season 1 Shadow and Bone Costumes
The Darkling's Full Getup, Fur and All- This one is just so dramatic, and perfect for the Darkling. Plus Ben Barnes looks great in it.
Alina's Nightgown- This one is so underrated! It's so elegant, perfectly capturing the luxury of the palace. It also looks super comfortable, in addition to being so gorgeous.
Alina's Episode 5 Event Kefta- Of course I had to include this one. It's mostly black, with a bit of gold, symbolizing Alina and the Darkling's partnership with him in control.
Alina's Finale Dress- In the finale, Alina wears this gorgeous black and gold dress while imprisoned by the Darkling. Contrary to the color scheme in her Episode 5 kefta, this one is mostly gold. She may be imprisoned, but The Darkling's influence on her has faded.
Genya's Kefta- The standard keftas are so lovely and detailed that I had to include at least one, and I love Genya's, the cream color is very refined.
Red Corporalki Kefta- Aside from Genya's cream colored kefta, the red of the Healers and Heartrenders are my other favorite. I did get Corporalki on the Netflix quiz, so I guess that checks out.
Kaz's Episode 1 Suit- This suit is just textbook Kaz Brekker. He looks great, and it's a perfect introduction to his character.
I want to highlight one Season 2 costume in this post, the final photo:
Kaz and Inej’s costumes- Kaz's vest and Inej's shirt have the patterns, making them go together perfectly. I love the way these costumes symbolize their partnership and unity while setting their characters apart.
Everyone say thank you to the amazing Shadow and Bone costume designer Wendy Partridge! She killed it, and it looks like she's outdone herself with Season 2.

It’s a good thing tailoring isn’t taught super in depth to corporalki students at the Little Palace because having a bunch of middle school/high school aged kids who can temporarily change their appearance would be horrifying. It would be a mad house.
There would be kids using it for:
Making themselves look prettier
Making themselves look like their crush's type
Making themselves look like other students and switching places (ex: taking a test for a friend)
Living out their anime dreams (ex: pink hair, purple eyes)
Giving themselves fangs
Giving themselves animal features (ex: dragon eyes, scaly cheeks)
Temporarily putting dicks on each other's foreheads. This would also work with "loser" on the forehead and stylized mustaches. Basically anything you would draw on their face in Sharpie while they're sleeping
Probably a million other things; teens are very creative lol
I know tailoring is super hard and it has its limits but I still feel like it's giving them too much power lol The teachers would be outnumbered

I love hurting myself and making up Fedyors Backstory.
Fedyor Kaminsky's backstory revolves around his childhood marked by tragedy and loss. Growing up in the war-torn nation of Ravka, Fedyor endured the devastation and hardships that accompanied the ongoing conflicts. His family was torn apart, leaving him orphaned and alone at a young age. Amidst the chaos, Fedyor found solace and purpose within the Grisha Order. As he trained and honed his abilities as a Heartrender, Fedyor sought to find meaning in his life by using his powers to help those in need.
One significant event that shaped Fedyor's life was the loss of his first love, Aleks, during a mission into the dangerous Shadow Fold. Aleks, a fellow Grisha, was struck down by the horrors within the Fold, leaving Fedyor devastated and burdened with guilt. However, it was during this mission that Fedyor also encountered Ivan, a fellow Grisha, who provided him with support and solace in his time of grief. Their friendship grew stronger over the years, becoming a source of strength and healing for both of them.
As Ivan and Fedyor embarked on subsequent missions and faced the growing threat of the Darkling, their bond deepened even further. They became trusted confidants of the Darkling, working closely with him to serve Ravka's interests. Throughout their journey, Fedyor and Ivan also confronted their own traumas and fears, finding solace and understanding in one another. Their shared experiences of loss and sacrifice cemented their friendship and created an unbreakable bond.

✨ Which grisha order would you belong to?
I’ve always wanted to be a heartrender so I’d be Corporalki, the order of the living and the dead!

They’re just so cool and super dangerous, but I also like the fact that they can rend and… mend? I’m sorry for the cheesy rhyme but it’s true! They can burst your heart, but they can also help calm nerves, help someone relax. I’ve always liked that.

Out of curiosity since I’m not finding an answer in my searching, are Heartrenders able to influence volcra at all? I keep thinking they should be able to just stop their hearts when they start to attack but maybe they can’t?

Spellbound by the Heart: A Wizarding Tale
Chapter 2: Dawning of the Unexpected Protector
Tumblr media
July 26, 1990 - My father sent me to a unique school for individuals with special abilities like mine. My mother hasn't uttered a word to me since our last meeting a few days ago, and while it's disappointing, I've grown accustomed to her silence.
Setting that aside, today marks the beginning of a new chapter as I join my fellow students at summer school. I'm determined to make the most of this experience and meet new people along the way.
You ceased writing with your quill and closed the book abruptly as your coachman announced your arrival at your destination.
You meticulously brushed your clothes, smoothing out the wrinkles with your bare hands. Once satisfied, you carefully stowed the book into your leather bag, discreetly discarding the quill by tossing it into an inconspicuous spot.
Just in time, the coachman swung open the carriage door, granting you the opportunity to disembark and inhale the less-than-pleasant horse shit. You mustered a polite smile at your coachman before leaping off the carriage and making your way toward the opulent Little Palace. Situated in the heart of the capital city of Ravka, it stood as the central hub for Grisha education and training, where practitioners honed their magical skills.
You observed your luggage effortlessly gliding towards the entrance of the Little Palace, propelled by the power of magic. This sight triggered a sudden bout of anxiety as you wondered if you had brought your wand with you. Swiftly, you unclasped your leather bag and breathed a sigh of relief upon finding your wand nestled safely inside.
Your propensity for forgetfulness had you constantly on guard, knowing that neglecting something as crucial as your wand was a genuine possibility.
You cast one last glance back at the imposing Little Palace before proceeding through the tall, ancient trees that lined the path toward the entrance. Nervously, you swallowed hard, your anxiety intensifying as you halted before the entrance.
Two men in blue keftas, along with a contingent of guards, stood vigilant at the front gate. As you approached, you presented the rolled paper to them. After a quick examination, they permitted your entry, allowing you to proceed further into the complex.
As you made your way to the grandest and most opulent door you had ever laid eyes on, you noticed a woman standing beside it, A woman adorned in a blue kefta stood there, lost in a reverie as if she were waiting for something or someone.
Summoning all the courage within you, you cleared your throat, determined to capture the woman's attention.
Her initial flinch and guarded stance quickly gave way to a more relaxed demeanor as her gaze settled on you—a 10-year-old girl with wavy, dirty blonde hair, clutching your leather bag tightly.
"Um... excuse me, miss... is this where I'm supposed to go?" You extended a rolled-up document to her, a contract or certificate officially designating you as a Grisha student at the Little Palace.
She unrolled the paper and carefully perused its contents before rolling it up again and handing it back to you. "Precisely," she affirmed. After a brief pause, she inquired, "Your name?"
In an attempt to sound stern, your voice quivered with nervousness and fear. Your infrequent interactions with others have left you socially awkward at times, making it difficult to communicate confidently. “[name] Ravenlocke, miss…” you replied, your words faltering slightly.
Her sidelong glance and subsequent clearing of her throat signaled a level of disapproval or annoyance, but she didn't linger on it. Instead, she pivoted away from you, her blue kefta adorned with an elegant gold pattern catching your eye. In a stern and commanding tone, she simply said, "Follow." With that, she strode briskly into the Little Palace, expecting you to adhere to her lead.
You hastened to keep pace with her, but her strides were long, precise, and perfectly rhythmic, in stark contrast to your own fast but somewhat uncoordinated steps. The echoing clank of her heels resonated through the hallways, emphasizing the contrast between her confident gait and your small, hurried legs that struggled to keep up.
As you made a concerted effort to catch up to her, your gaze wandered and absorbed the surroundings of the castle. It struck you as lavish, yet there was an odd sense of welcoming about it. Unlike the predominantly black and silver decor of your house, the Little Palace's environment was characterized by warm, beige and gold hues, which added a contrasting and inviting touch to the grandeur.
You gradually slowed your pace, paying little heed to the woman walking ahead of you. Instead, your eyes were drawn upwards, captivated by the gleaming, giant chandelier suspended from the lofty ceiling. Adorned with intricate gold and diamond-like ornaments, it added a vibrant and opulent touch to the room, holding your rapt attention.
You found yourself entranced, completely losing touch with reality as you stared in awe at the magnificent chandelier. It was unlike anything you had ever seen, exuding an unprecedented vibrancy and liveliness that held you spellbound.
The chandelier in your home, a black fixture that emitted only a faint glimmer of light, had conditioned your eyes to adapt easily to darkness. However, the brilliance of the chandelier before you now was an entirely different experience. You found yourself captivated, having to squint and blink several times as your eyes adjusted to the unexpectedly bright light.
Your reverie was abruptly shattered by the stern and authoritative call of your name, "Ravenlocke!" In response, you swiftly picked up your pace and hastened to rejoin the woman, once again following her through the halls of the Little Palace.
As you reached her, she came to a halt and turned to the left. You both stood before two colossal, interconnected doors made of luxurious beige and gold marble material. You stole a few glances at her, the curiosity evident in your gaze, but ultimately decided to keep your questions unspoken. Instead, you stood quietly beside her, waiting for her to take the lead.
You couldn't help but flinch slightly as the massive doors swung open, revealing a man adorned in a black kefta seated at the center of a lavishly appointed office, strikingly similar to your father's. In an effort to appear professional, you disciplined yourself not to allow your gaze to wander. Your focus remained firmly fixed on the enigmatic man seated at the heart of the vintage, yet opulent, office, its color palette dominated by shades of grey and brown.
The woman approached the desk and came to a halt, and you promptly followed suit. As she bowed, you, not quite understanding the situation, mirrored her movements and bowed as well. With your head still lowered, you heard the man's voice, resonating with authority, enigma, and a certain charm. "You may go now," he commanded, addressing the woman who had accompanied you.
Without a hint of hesitation, the woman straightened back up and exited the room, making sure to close the door behind her. You observed her departure, your attention lingering on the door as it swung shut.
Seizing the opportunity, you took a moment to scrutinize his features. He possessed strikingly handsome attributes, with his pale complexion, dark hair, and piercing gray eyes. His physical presence was undoubtedly captivating and imposing. As he continued to smile at you, you decided to briefly glance behind you at the imposing doors before returning a cautious side-eye in his direction. (BOMBASTIC SIDE EYE)
He leaned forward, resting both elbows on his desk and intertwining his fingers, all in an effort to project a calm and composed demeanor that wouldn't further intimidate you. His gentle smile and soft tone were meant to convey warmth and understanding.
"Hello," he began. "You must be feeling quite overwhelmed right now, I imagine. But there's no need to be afraid. You're among friends here, among the Grisha. We are here to help you understand your gifts, just as I once did when I was your age."

His accelerated heartbeat suggested he wasn't entirely truthful.
Your gaze remained sharp as you stared at him, a mixture of fear and bravery in your eyes as you confronted him. "You're lying," you asserted, your voice trembling slightly, your British accent was pronounced and unmistakable. "I can hear your heart beating faster." Despite your own fear, you didn't let your guard down, determined to discern the truth.
He tilted his head back slightly and squinted his eyes at you, as though he was closely observing your reactions. "A Heartrender," he mused, his voice carrying a hint of amusement and slight satisfaction. "It's been a while since we've had a young Heartrender." His enigmatic smile, tinged with mystery, sent another shiver down your spine.
Now, you've come to realize that you may have revealed something about yourself that perhaps you shouldn't have.
Your anxiety grew, uncertainty about his motives gnawing at you. You observed his sigh and raised eyebrows as he shifted his gaze to the right. Then, he picked up his quill and began writing something on another piece of paper. Finally, he extended it toward you.
With hesitance, you took a few cautious steps forward, your gaze not leaving his as you accepted the paper from his outstretched hand. Gently, you unfolded it and began to read its contents.
As your eyes scanned the words on the paper, they widened in shock and disbelief. You were left utterly flabbergasted by the revelation. Your parents had sold you out to this man, a stranger, who was to be your half-guardian? The news hit you like a thunderbolt, leaving you stunned and bewildered.
Silent and with your emotions held in check, you gazed at the ground, your grip tightening on the paper until it crumpled slightly. The weight of the situation pressed down on you, leaving you struggling to process the unexpected turn of events.
You had done your best to excel and impress your parents, yet here you were, signed away to a mysterious man you had just met. The stark contrast between your efforts to please your parents and this unexpected twist left you feeling bewildered and betrayed.
In the wake of everything that had transpired, it became painfully clear that your parents couldn't bear to look at you or offer you the love you had longed for, much like the fairy tales you had read in books. The harsh reality weighed heavily on your heart.
You released a deep breath, maintaining an air of composure as you addressed the mysterious man who had now become your half-guardian. Your voice carried a sense of emptiness, reflecting your resignation and the realization that you meant nothing to your parents. "So, what now?" you inquired, your words laden with a sense of defeat.
The man's satisfied smile remained as he rose from his seat and approached you, laying a hand gently on your shoulder. His words carried warmth, yet there was an underlying hint of danger in both his tone and body language.
"My dear Ravenlocke," he began, "your abilities are a gift, one that we will nurture and refine together. In the Little Palace, you will find mentors and peers who will support you on this journey. You will learn to harness the forces of the world and use them to protect and serve Ravka." His words conveyed a sense of both promise and peril, leaving you uncertain about the path that lay ahead.
Soon, it began: your training, your arduous journey, and the challenges that would test your limits and transform you into something greater.

I keep insisting that while a lovely idea, appointment of the Grisha triumvirate is more of a joke and recipe for disaster, than a political step forward.
Today, I’m going to question Genya’s part specifically.
At the beginning, Genya’s introduced as a unique talent with predispositions to work of both Corporanik and Materialnik. She chooses her kefta’s colours herself- blue on red (which still doesn’t make sense, since blue is established as Summoners’ colour- literally the only Order she DOESN’T belong to). At the end ot the trilogy, Alina picks her as a representative of all Corporalki.
The obvious favouritism aside, ignoring lack of experience in leadership, I’m asking- what does Genya know about her Order itself?
Due to the nature of her assignment, she spent most of her life away from Little Palace. While she would understand the inner workings of the Grand Palace, Second Army and the woes of its people isn’t something she’d be closely familiar with. She even admits there’s a distance between her and other Grisha.
More pressingly- what does she know about the work of her Order? I’d like to assume she got some sort of basic training, but she doesn’t seem to know about anything more advanced. Although she could’ve lied (or withhold), according to her tour in Shadow and Bone, she’s never even been inside Corporalki worshops (while she’s spending a lot of her free time with Materialki).
“We’re on the other side of the Corporalki anatomy rooms.”
“Don’t they need light to … do their work?”
“Skylights,” she said. “In the roof, like the library dome. They prefer it that way. It keeps them and their secrets safe.”
“But what do they do in there?” I asked, not entirely sure I wanted to hear the answer.
“Only the Corporalki know. But there are rumors that they’ve been working with the Fabrikators on new … experiments.”
How can she represent people she isn’t particularly close to, and whose work she knows virtually nothing about?!

I'll rewatch the S2 this week, but I must say that after a few days of cooling down the first view...
SPOILERS AHEAD
I still don't buy how they swept off the existence of David, not only as a genyavid fan but also as a believer in what the Triumvirate means for the grisha. I mean, it was one grisha\one order to make clear that every grisha was THE SAME aside from their powers and they've just erased the durasts key role in almost everything grisha and war-related. Not to mention the importance of David in the development of weapons together with Nikolai for the incoming war.

I've had enough of Netflix and there shitty fucking marketing. This is fycking ridiculous. ITS A LITTLE MORE THAN A MONTH TO GO UNTIL THE NEW SHADOW AND BONE SEASON AIRS AND WE STILL HAVEN'T HAD
A fucking trailer
Posters
Cast interviews
Like tf? What kind of bullshit is this? Netflix really is hanging on with it's very last thread because they cancelled a lot of good shows for absolutely no fucking reason. If they fuck this up, I seriously am considering cancelling my subscription.
(The same goes for pixelberry/play choices regarding Blades of Light and Shadow book 2 btw, on which we have been waiting 3 years and got pushed back twice)
I am done with waiting on netflix so I decided to take it to them. Let's pester them into giving it to us.
