My dad sent me to conversation therapy, where I was given medication, that didn’t work, so I annoyed the staff, constantly talking about gay sex. And I also got in a fight with my classmate, who was also there, and I killed them on accident. And there also was my other classmate, to whom someone said that he looked gay and he said that he knows.

Why I don’t want KOSA to become a act: A message to those who support it
I have a non-binary friend who likes women. I have a transgender friend. Their parents don’t know this. And they are not good. If they were found out, their lives would change for the worse.
They would possibly be sent to conversion therapy, be shunned, be abused, they would be hurt, they would be disowned, be forced to be someone they aren’t.
If you want safety for the people. Why do you want it to be your very own, sanitized world full of nuclear families who have unhappy parents because they have been forced into the american rules. Why do you want that kind of world where we watch football while people are dying. Why do you want silence, not freedom? I thought this country was a free country. This country is a horrible place, and I can’t with this. We’d lose friends we made online, we would lose them and we can’t get them back, we can’t do that. Because the government would have eyes and ears all over, the content we watch would be dictated. The media would have to be approved.
We live in a world that can’t listen. We live in a world that is soon to become a dystopia if we don’t act. We live in this horrible world.
Signed, a Aromantic asexual. Someone who may get exposed to the government if this bill gets passed by the law.

You know, it isn't the fact that conversion therapy is ineffective that makes it immoral. Even if it was somehow effective, it would still be immoral to punish and traumatize queer people into "being normal". Even if conversion therapy saw "successes", that wouldn't make it okay.
There have been so many progressives who seem to think that the only issue with conversion therapy is that it isn't effective. I've seen so many people say things like, "well if there were a cure for transness, of there were a cure for queerness, then people would take it!" and never mind the fact about conversion therapy is that it inherently robs people of their autonomy. Their single qualm about conversion therapy is that it is ineffective, not that it relies on traumatizing queer people and denying us agency and life.
Conversion therapy is not progressive. You can never make conversion therapy progressive.

Sami's hand is shaking as he holds the phone to his ear, glancing over his shoulder every now and again to make sure no one was watching. He's huddled in the corner, slouched so that the phone is tucked against the crook of his neck, voice muffled against his shirt. Shaky breaths blow against the mic of the old corded phone pinned to the wall of the office as a warm tear drips down his cheek. He feels violated. In so many ways. And it was this last session of "therapy" that had pushed him over the edge. He couldn't do this. No matter how badly he wanted his father to love him or his mother to look t him with pride, it wasn't worth this.
They couldn't change. They'd tried. They'd really tried, especially while they were away...but none of it changed the way they felt, the way they looked at boys, at themselves...
When the phone finally clicks on the other end of the line and Leo's voice rings through, Sami nearly jumps in his spot, words tumbling out of his mouth in stuttered sobs, nearly incoherent as he attempts to explain as quickly as he can.
"Le- Leo?! Oh my God, thank- thank God, thank---!" A hitched breath, trying to focus, to not start hyperventilating, but he was getting himself all worked up just upon hearing her voice. "I--J--f...fuck, um.." A shaky inhale, tears streaming down his face, which he promptly rubs away with the fabric of his tee shirt.
Tumblr media
"I- I- I- I need-- I need you...to d- do, d- do me a- a- a- a favour, please, fuck...I need you to come get me." He starts reading off the address of the camp, hurriedly explaining that she needed to come at night, which building to pull up to, where to park, but it's coming out so fast it's hard to stop his breath from catching again, the panic settling in.

Why do you defend detransitioners when most of them are transphobic and toxic? I was forced to detransiton for a few years, and I was part of that community, and they largely support transphobia, transmedicalism, enbyphobia, conversation therapy, threats of rape as a way to make people stop being trans, and they fetishize transphobia and abuse. When I was in that community, I saw so many miserable detransitioners kill themselves because of feeling like they should have been trans but just couldn't, and I saw so many others encourage suicide in trans people.
When I retransitioned/came back out, I was physically assaulted by a someone in the detrans community, and I was doxxed and threatened by others. My family was threatened and I had my house swatted.
There's a big difference between people who aren't on HRT or who change their labels or are forced into the closet and the kind of transphobic monsters who actually make up the detrans community, the ones who harass and hurt people, who try to ban access to trans health care, the ones who make being trans in public illegal, and the ones who turn their whole personality into hating trans people because they feel wronged by us.
You have no idea how large that majority of the detrans community is unless you're in it. But it's just transphobes who are inserting themselves in a community they purposely left. They're not LGBT+, they're unsafe, you are transphobic if you support detransitioners.
yikes I'm really sorry you had to go through all of that anon :( /gen
but the thing with detransitioners is that they're not inherently bad people. Yes, it's true that many of them turn out to be raging transphobes, but there's definitely many out there who are in full support of trans people. I, for one, have many detransitioned friends, all of them are in support of trans people.
Think of it this way. They're just people who explored their gender identity, and realized that certain labels were not for them. How is that any different from someone identifying as non binary, and then realizing that they're trans?
Again, I'm sorry you had to go through all of that, but please understand that detransitioning isn't an inherently bad thing to do.

Tw for extreme ableism and homophobia
Disabled queer culture is being dragged to church and hearing a pastor talking about how he cured a gay prostitute of homosexuality and performed an exorcism to rid a girl (who was almost certainly psychotic and/or having a meltdown) of demons and just being like
What. Huh.
And then looking around to see if anyone else is shocked by this and realizing you’re the only one who thinks what he just said was absolutely absurd.
Hello???? I don’t think you have to be gay or disabled to comprehend how disgusting that is???? But all those cishet ableds simply don’t????
Evangelicalism is a hell of a drug.

This is your daily reminder that conversion therapy is literal torture and if you support putting kids through it, unfollow me now
Tumblr media
Also a gentle reminder - there is no neutral ground when it comes to LGBT rights - you are either for us, or you want us dead

sometimes I think about lohanthony and what happened to him and it just makes me really sad tbh :/
for those who don’t know: he was a queer youtube kid and actor who has since become a quite extreme christian who has renounced “all sexuality, heterosexual and homosexual alike”.
he has denied that he was sent to conversion therapy but tbh it wouldn’t surprise me if he had. he’s deffo been a victim of some sort of religious brainwashing and 100% it’s because he’s gay :(

What I need cis people to understand is that for many of us, we came to transition as a last form of alleviating the dissonance between our gender and body, society's view of us, or comfort.
For so many, transition was our last shot of living, and we did try all the ways you think will alleviate our gender incongruence. So many of us have tried therapy - even conversion therapy, and yet... we're still here. Many of us still transition either medically, socially, or both.
While no, not all of us have gender dysphoria and/or gender incongruencies, many of us don't immediately transition. If the majority of us did, however, that does deserve respect, but that isn't the story for many of us. The whole, "just get therepy/just live as [x] gender!/just deal with it!" is precisely what many of us have done, yet it didn't work.
I think, perhaps, the reason cis people think it's so easy to "get over" dysphoria without transition is because they apply how they feel in their current gender to trans people - that we just... feel okay about being our expected gender, and decide to just uproot that for... what, fun? I think that's why it is so easy for many cis people to divorce themselves from the realities of trans people, of dysphoria in one's gender.

Had a nightmare about being tortured by a lesbian cop and also a little impromptu conversion therapy from her for being aro. It sucked and it hurt even outside the dream. I still feel nauseous from the extreme pain. Most of it was high wattage electric shocks. The rest, well, I was too fried to remember tbh.

i loved enid as a character but it did feel a little "🤨" that they refused to make her any kind of explicitly queer, whilst also using werewolves as a metaphor for queerness specifically in regards to enid (see: the conversion therapy discussion). i really think that plot point would've been more impactful if she were some form of lgbtq+

okay so this is an idea i’ve been tossing around for a while, very much still in early stages but i figured i’d start asking around because there’s not much point going forward if no one is interested lol -
i’ve been thinking about doing a podcast about conversion therapy. as a victim i’ve found barely anything in terms of resources over the years and a lot of people - therapists, lgbtq+ people, and progressive clergy included - don’t know it’s something that still happens, much less what to say when you ask how to cope. the podcasts that i’ve managed to find are very limited in scope and often just one episode on a podcast about something else (religion, lgbtq+ rights, etc).
i’m thinking in terms of content:
ideally people telling their stories, like my dream would be a Mormon Stories-esque podcast where it’s a resource for other people who’ve been through similar things to not feel alone, but obviously that’s something super sensitive/personal so i’m not banking on interest in that, especially at first
summaries, reviews, and critiques of media with conversion therapy plot lines, such as but i’m a cheerleader!, the miseducation of cameron post, riverdale, etc
history of organizations like exodus international and leaders in the ex-gay movement, especially people who became ex-ex-gays
discussion of academic work about conversion therapy, high-demand religions, and other relevant topics
news updates
is this something anybody would be interested in? (whether you’ve experienced conversion therapy or not). feel free to send me a reply, ask, or dm if you have thoughts
