Not an Enigma, and Certainly Not a Curse: the "Ultimate Self" in Hussie's Own Words
I've found myself, lately, in several conversations in a row where the other guy and myself weren't on the same page about what the Ultimate Self meant; and though I welcome the opportunity for discussion, explaining my position over and over again has cost me minutes of my screen life that I simply won't win back. So this post is a departure from my usual fare in that it's more for my own benefit than that of anybody else.
I've been over Davepeta's "superceding bodyless and timeless persona that crosses the boundaries of paradox space" enough already, so if you're interested in the Ultimate Self as it is in Homestuck, I recommend you read "Homestuck's Gnosticism: The Conflict", and then, if that piques your attention, you continue with the follow-up "The World/The Wheel". For the purposes of this post, though, I want to keep analysis, interpretation and hypothesising to a minimum. As the title indicates, this is the Ultimate Self not as I describe it, or as characters describe it, but - so to speak - straight from the horse's mouth.
In Andrew Hussie's commentary on Homestuck: Book 6, p. 312:
Oftentimes, when characters lose certain qualities that came to define them, there's this sense of liberation they seem to experience. They become a happier, more relieved, easier-going version of themselves. When Aradia ditches a defining quality we came to know her by (being dead), she becomes a much happier and self-actualized Aradia. Sollux also seems to be chilling out now that his defining properties (bifurcation, etc.) have been KO'd. He had a mouth full of gnarly teeth that gave him a wicked lisp (gone), eyes full of nasty laser beams (gone, along with his eyesight), and a brain full of doomsday visions and bipolar disorder (also gone—well, maybe not the bipolar thing, because that's probably not how that works, but whatever). You get more of this kind of thing in even higher degrees with some of the fusion stuff that happens later (Arquius, Davepeta), where characters become almost euphoric versions of themselves for having been completely liberated from certain self-limitations which previously defined them. The concept of an "ultimate self," which appears much later, probably has its roots way back to stuff like this, which got the ball rolling on the idea that a more complete or fulfilled self is one that becomes free from mortal limitations, or the idiosyncrasies which comprise a specific instance of one version of yourself. Hence an ultimate self is an aggregate of someone's full potential. It's not just doing away with negative traits, but summing up all iterations of yourself, including ones without those traits, allowing you to move beyond them. Or maybe more accurately, to view them as insignificant in the grand totality of what a person really is.
Importantly, what Hussie does here is draw the conceptual line from the themes of Acts 1-5 to what are often interpreted by some as radically different, even left-field themes through Act 6. Think of this as an extension of one of Homestuck's meta-themes, where the comic undergoes a series of escalations that take simple conflicts to their logical extremes: we start the story worried about a Reckoning which might destroy the Earth, then end up with the more pressing concern that a Rapture is about to end reality as we know it. The Ultimate Self is the end result of the exact same kind of escalation; where the God Tiers are a method of becoming a better version of oneself by merging with one's "ideal" dream body, the Ultimate Self is the logical conclusion that one can become the best version by unifying with every body.
To draw my own conceptual line back to Homestuck: Book 5, page 409:
This connects to the basic question of whether to embrace the regimentation of a heroic path conveniently laid out for you (the expectation), or to reject it as the shallow and rigid confinement of personal destiny (the deviation). These issues are expressed through the fundamental language of platonic idealism: perfect ideas of things, and then specific, imperfect instances of those ideas, or varied permutations, evolutions, or hacks of those ideas through alchemy. The way Sburb "should" go is an ideal (expectation), but the disastrous, chaotic way it actually goes is an imperfect instance (deviation). An "idea" of a person, such as Rose, along with her regimented heroic quest for growth, and all the great things she might imagine herself to become if she followed it, is an ideal (expectation). The messy, flawed, yet more genuinely human individual she does become resulting from her errant choices and rejection of formalism, is an imperfect instance of an ideal (deviation). What's the bottom line here? This is a lot. I know it's a lot. Homestuck is, in fact, a lot.
I've added some of my own emphasis there again, but that whole extract is worth reading. The reason I bolded that part is because this "Platonic idealism" is something Hussie talks about a lot in his commentary, and I think that commentary is essential reading for anyone who wants to even get their foot in the door on this topic. Again, this is something I've blogged about extensively already, so there's more than just Hussie's word to take for it if you're really interested; but for the sake of this post, I'll finish off with, again, what Hussie himself has to say on the matter, all the way back in Homestuck: Book 1, page 123:
With things like Athenums and Perfectly Generic Objects locked and loaded, Sburb architecture seems to be circling widely around a game abstraction-based systemization of Platonic idealism. Homestuck deals with what I am going to roughly characterize as THEMES.

hey i'd really love it if you could say more about biopolitics? i hadn't heard that before and it seems fantastic.
😅 u guys humor me too much- these type of asks are like catnip for me i am rolling around on the floor
biopolitics was originally conceptualized by foucault in a series of lectures- the very simple explanation of it (which foucault scholars probably would feel doesn't do it justice) is that the state has a vested interest in creating citizens who are "healthy" (as defined by the state usually by military/work readiness) + reproducing more "healthy" citizens (in this way it often intersects with outright eugenics). people often refer to it as the politics of "making live + letting die" (necropolitics by achille mbembé is an incredible analysis of this second part, focused on colonial power's interest in determining who dies)
what this means is that, at its core, the state engages in programs to improve the "health" of the population not out of altruism but because it needs a supply of work-ready, combat-ready, reproduction-ready individuals. the concept of "health" is tied up in one's ability to perform labor in service of the state, so much so that disorder or the severity of disorder becomes defined by this ability. public health efforts center not on decreasing suffering but on restoring the population to a condition in which they can once again perform labor (including reproductive labor) + serve the greater needs of the state.
my friend cora at umadison did an excellent presentation on how the u.s evokes within "anti-obesity" campaigns a concern that "obesity" is a threat to military readiness. messaging concerning family planning/abortion are often engaged by the state to coerce certain ppl into having children + others NOT to, based on the idea of the Type of Citizen they want. on a deeper level, this haunts us from birth- were there programs to try to improve your mother's pregnancy? public school health surveys? scoliosis tests? presidential fitness tests? irt COVID-19, whose death was seen as acceptable + whose death was seen as worth preventing? was prioritizing a 'return to work ' an out-of-the-blue approach or a natural conclusion of a public health system structured around producing + maintaining a steady supply of labor? none of this is asserting that state public health intervention is inherently BAD, just that its core motivations are not altruistic but rather political (so it has no interest in expanding into a public health model where fitness to work/serve/birth is NOT seen as the marker of health).
a very cynical read of the opioid epidemic would be that the state is so heavily involved now because it is finally impacting individuals that they want to Make Live. harm reduction is reluctantly being adopted (thanks to the tireless work of incredible activists!) but only if it can fit into the framework of Making Them Live Until They Can Become Sober. sobriety is the unspoken end goal not because it reduces suffering but because it allows for workers. the truly liberatory logic of harm reduction, which focuses on autonomy + safety + reducing suffering, is antithetical to the motivations of a state which openly despises those who don't 'produce' proportionately to what they receive.
my interest is in reimagining medicine + the body + disability + suffering outside of this biopolitical framework by acknowledging that our very definitions of all of these things have been engraved in the public imagination with labor production in mind. i'm not interested in trying to create new state programs that are 'untouched' by biopolitics because that's impossible + i can still extract tangible benefits from it (for example, i got all my covid vaccines early + for free bcuz my labor was important enough for the state to invest in my life). the idea is to engage with these programs clear-eyed + willing to look at who we Make Live + who we Let Die. most importantly, we can find what lies outside it all + envision new ways of living

question: If we wanted to make our own simpletale/verse designs what are some rules/guidelines that need to be followed?
if your going by undertale standards. -sans. ALWAYS. has a circular head, NO exceptions, his face can be different, sure, hell, you could even somewhat change the shape of his head, but its ALWAYS a somewhat round or circular shape
Tumblr media
swapsimple sans head breaks the circle logic, but its still somewhat ROUND! so in conclusion, keep it round and simple! -use beta/concept art elements, or just generally what the original creator of whatever your parodying made before getting a clear idea of what he was making, and apply it to your characters! (yes, this applies to the personalities too, but dont follow it too strictly! try to be a bit original!)
Tumblr media
try to exaggerate the design a bit to make em more funny lookin
Tumblr media
LIKE LONG ASS TEETH!!! now for some non-undertale specific bits if your using an au or story that doesnt really have beta elements, try to simplify the concept then make a new story from scratch. like simplekiller is simplified from "oh sans makes a deal with the human and then kills people to experience something more" to "oh sans works for the human ig", then let your brain spin and make your own story from this simplified bit. it can be a long story as long as the base for the story is made from a simplified story!!!
do all simpletale based stories have to be dumb/silly? NO! they dont have to be. but there should at least be some characters or plotlines that have a more goofy aura, not to spoil anything. but simpletale WILL HAVE DARK MOMENTS!!! in conclusion, dont let the story take itself too seriously, fuck around! can i make simpletale AU's of non-undertale content? YES! i encourage making simpletale versions of other franchises then undertale, do you want to make a simpletale version of star wars? GO WILD! BE FREE! DO IT! i LOVE seeing fanart and fan creations of simpletale. and i encourage you to play around with more content then just undertale. have fun!

hello, can you do sunoo's ideal type.thankiesss💜💜
Hiii sure💜 since im free from exams I can finally relax and channel my energy😭
So here are the cards I pulled for Sunoo's Ideal type:
The magician: with this card I am getting someone that is confident. Sunoo like someone that seem to have this air of charisma. The migician is someone that is persuasive, often exuding a powerful aura that draws others to them. They possess an innate ability to influence and inspire, using their emotional intelligence to connect with people on various levels. The Magician’s charm is their tool, enabling them to navigate social situations with ease and grace. So possibly someone that works in a career that influences others like musicians, idols etc. Someone that is charming is what he likes. But even though this person is charming they dont use that skill against others or selfishly for their own benefit.
King of wands: again this card too points so someone that is charismatic. Sunoo is attracted to someone with leadership vibes to them. Someone that can be in control and can lead him. King of wands too means this person that he prefers is someone that is intelligent and passionate about their life. Does not matter what aspect it may be. Whether their career or their personal. So Sunoo likes people who are determined and fiery when it comes to achieving thier goals. I think he find someone that is focused on their goals and not letting other stuff distract them is so attractive. He admires people like that.
I dont know why i am getting a feeling this is a specific person he thought of. Someone he knows that is like this but he is not on talking terms / close with them. I am getting someone he is admiring from afar. Someone he just greets and bumps into. Its giving out of reach here, and i dont think he wants to reach out either because he thinks that this person is working hard right now and he dont want to disturb.
Ten of pentacles: so to sunoo he wants someone that he can eventually settle down with. Someone he can have stability and family. I think he is thinking when all of this is over, when he can finally reap what he sow, maybe his finance and everything is in place, he can live happily with this other person that also already achieve abundance in their live. He seeks something permanent and stable, so someone family oriented and slightly traditional would be great. He wants the simple and chill life.
The Emperor:again another leadership vibes so far we have 2 cards that have massive masculine energy. (we are not touching gender here, it could be a female that has masculine energy). So sunoo likes some authoritative and structured. He prefers someone that is calm that have their shit together and someone that don't panic easily. They just know how to deal with stuff. Someone that is composed is what he likes. This person might also be very disciplined and someone that prefers to use logic. A head over heart type of person. Someone strategic.
Overall/bottom of deck justice: overall sunoo prefers someone that is fair minded, balanced, and operates with a strong sense of ethics and equality. Despite all the characteristics above, Sunoo wants someone that utalises their ability in a good way and not abuse it. He likes someone that is decent and someone simple that can understand him. Sunoo wants someone that can be independent , i dont think he likes a person that is too reliant on him. He believes in equal partnership.
In conclusion, i think Sunoo just like someone that is confident, have thier shit together, self-reliant and know their self worth. To him he wants a partner that he can be proud with. Someone that is brave to get through life and make no regrets. He actually like someone that He can rely on too. Someone he can lean on.
I hope you like my read dont forget to like

How do you even write a IF game? Where do you even start? There's so much in front of me and I dunno what to do- Tips?
Oooh... 'tis a big question and varies from person to person.
I've received a few questions about writing in the past but never answered them. Not because I didn't want to, but because my answers get so long that I'm essentially writing 1000 word essays. I have way too many opinions when it comes to writing and story building and world building... so it's hard for me to rein in my thoughts enough to explain it all in a way that's ordered and makes sense.
That being said, I think I managed to answer this in a relatively short manner for what's being asked. If you (or anyone) have any more questions regarding writing or what I wrote here, feel free to send in another ask!
Now, on to my answer: I think in general you just want a strong foundation to work off of. Granted, a lot of this is assuming you’re writing a story that isn’t just slice-of-life or has zero fantastical/speculative elements to it, but even if that is what you’re interested in, it’s all relevant to some degree.
A.) What genre are you writing?
B.) What's the theme of your story? (Exploring the morality of people? Exploring an undiscovered world? Something as simple and powerful as love, and what lengths would people go for it?)
C.) Is there a message to your story, or no? (A moral, basically.)
D.) Making/choosing your main companions.
A1. There are a lot of genres-- and genres usually give you a base to work with when it comes to deciding part B and C. There are basic genres-- fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, noir, slice-of-life. If you want to get more specific, I like taking a look at all the "punks" in fiction-- steampunk, solarpunk, cyberpunk, biopunk, etc. These all fall into speculative fiction, which can fall into any "big" genre (historical, fantasy, sci-fi). But they're just specific enough that they can give you a basic storyline to work with, and you can get a lot of immediate inspiration for making a basic plot.
B1. This is basically the big question of "why are you writing this story?" Or, on an even more basic level... what is the story? You can have multiple themes.
For The Exile, I knew I wanted to explore morality. That automatically meant I knew I had to make morally grey characters, that my world needed to be filled with complex political history, and that the plot itself could have no clear answer. It also meant I needed to focus on emotions-- as emotions are what largely drive people to make questionable decisions... which then also introduces the theme of "Emotions. vs. Logic."
But themes don't have to be big, complex, life-changing things. It can be as simple as exploring a big, cool undiscovered island. It can be about the power of friendship. It can be about love, and what lengths people go to for it. It can be about absolutely anything, really, but chances are, if you want to write a story, you already have something in mind.
And, if not, you can base it on your genre. For example, cyberpunk tackles dystopian futures and, true to the punk part of its name, tackles corrupt governments and corporations. Solarpunk is about a world that's all green and self-sustainable-- a world that's free from pollution and global warming. That automatically introduces storylines about nature preservation. Biopunk tackles technological + scientific advancements that specifically relate to experimentation on natural life, like humans, animals, or even plants. That produces a lot of introducing ideas.
C1.) Little Red Riding Hood's moral is to not talk to strangers. The Exile's moral is that actions have consequences. A moral is just a conclusive message you want the reader to derive from the theme. Sometimes, you can even consider the moral the answer to the theme.
That being said-- a moral isn't needed. Not everything needs a conclusive answer.
D1.) This is probably the easiest part-- and that's making your companions. The companions are your strongest tool in world building-- they grew up in this fictional world, and thus their personalities alone can tell the reader a lot about the setting they're in.
When I make my ROs, I usually just start with tropes-- the roles in my story that are necessary for it to be told. For example, Sabir was just "The Diplomat," Syfyn was "The Soldier," Nikke was "The Bounty Hunter," and Vethna was simply "The Foreign Sorcerer." These are all blank slates, but you can see how these generic roles would serve the story. And from there, you build up.
End: The biggest thing I want to emphasize is that there's no clear order to doing this. I just wrote these in the order I came up with them, but you can start with whichever one you're most intrigued/excited by. A world doesn't just build itself-- it takes time, and you'll usually have to bounce around a lot. You can't write too much of a character's lore without having to take the time to develop the homeland they came from. You can't write too much about the homeland without knowing the history of the world. You can't write too much of the history of the world because that's essentially an endless task-- so instead you move to write about the plot-- and the plot can lead back to any of those categories.
Worlds, real and fake, are overlapping. Everything influences everything. If you're struggling to make your plot make sense, make a reason for it to make sense. Go into the history of your world, and make up a reason for your plot to exist. You are the literal creator of the world you make, and you can edit whatever it is you need to.
And, most importantly, write what's fun. Writing should be enjoyable. If you enjoy what you're writing, the rest will follow.
For example, when I started The Exile... there was no plot. Like, I knew MC was an exile, and that Vethna was a foreign sorcerer, and that was literally it. I bullshitted everything in Chapter One as I wrote... including the part where Vethna hires MC. I just needed an excuse for MC + Vethna to meet. But then I needed a reason for Vethna to be on the run, so then I decided to invent Javier.
The storm? I just like lightning. The city flooding? Idk. Seemed cool. People not liking mythosi? Seems reasonable. The gorgons attacking? Wow. I had no idea that was going to happen! Vethna literally stabbing MC? Right out of left field. Oh! They teleported. Cool. Why did I do that? Idk. Well, I like forests, and I can't be bothered to figure out where they are, so they don't know where they are either.
Chapter Two was no different.
That being said, I think you can probably tell those are the two most disorganized chapters, but it doesn't matter. Because those two chapters led to me being able to craft a storyline slowly and over time-- and over time things became more clear and easier to write. It's always scary to create a world from scratch. But the scariest, hardest thing to do is just take a leap of faith and start writing.
Best of luck anon!

i slightly moderated your message Anon, as I wanted to go into this but I rather prevent naming other bloggers on my blog.
It keeps amazing me how things that are obvious but doesn't fit in the picture someone has created of a person or a situation are explained in the most incredible way.
A photoshoot in the middle of nowhere, they had all the vegetables and all on the picnic table, but hey let's photoshop a water jar in it! Right....
Or no, wait, let's put him in front of a green screen and later on photoshop all the camping essentials and vegetables on that table... Right..
Oh and a blanket draped over a chair (in the middle of a park with a picnic table), cause that is not a dog, cause you can't see its head (behind the table) and no tail... cause that dog must be wag from joy and excitement high up (Cesar Milan would be very angry with you when you get your dog so excited).. but hey - Right.... it must be a blanket with a fur inside.
He's too clean to be camping - Yeah right, they sell dirty shirts and used cowboy hats at Jackson Hole especially for campers.
And so I've seen a bunch of other complicated explanations that are so far fetched that one needs to scratch their head and ask themselves, do I really go by that, just because the simple explanation doesn't fit my narrative.
You know, I don't mind if people have other ideas, other believes and draw other conclusions. But for goodness sake, come up with something more credible... something less complicated and scripted but something that at least would have some logic in it.
Let me help: Sam was in LA (or LV) in his fancy hotel, took a day trip to Zion in a fancy car (that we will see later on when he's back in the UK as an #ad because it was of course a free rental for him) and while he was there found out that KE was camping around with a camper van. He was DMing her on IG, and she does post on IG but only for a group of friends, of which Sam is one. 'Gosh' Dm-d Sam, I'm not that far off, you know what, will take me a day, because I have a fan waiting in Wyoming in the middle of nowhere to get a fan pic posted so my fans will know where I am. But the next day we can meet up at picnic table number 56 in [censured place], let me buy my T-shirt and cowboy hat while on the road and we can do a nice set up pretending we're cooking diner. I have to get a cigar and a lighter as well, hope they have that at Jackson Hole too. Oh and I'll bring some whisky too, though I already drank half the bottle myself (sorry couldn't resist). Will you bring the water jar and the Chia seeds, and don't forget the cucumber and the apple please...
And so it happened, they had a nice happy meal afterwards at the McDonalds where Dashy could play happily in the ball pit!
I'm sorry, I couldn't resist... but at the end of the day:

feel free to ignore this but i was tempted to ask u a fmk question but i realise no one stands a chance against aizawa/nishiki and kill is kind of redundant so my question is: fuck, marry, kill but instead its just fuck and marry between aizawa or nishiki. I think i already know what ur answer will be but im interested in ur thoughts. Im typing this in bed and i just used hand lotion so my hands are all slippery but for some reason i couldnt wait to ask this. love u
mmmmMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM- i dont like this question!!! why do i gotta be pitting two bad bitches against each other? there's a reason i made a SS Au where i get to be with them both hahahaAHGH ummmm
well, the simple answer is marry aizawa and fuck nishiki.... THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT I LIKE AIZAWA MORE THAN I LIKE NISHIKI! let me explain-
i've liked nishiki long before i knew aizawa existed but nishiki has a ton of fans and i feel like he gets enough love through them when it comes to posts and stuff. i dont think there's anything new that i could add to the discussion. so, i generally keep my nishiki thoughts to myself. every now and then i post them. aizawa, on the other hand, is undervalued and underappreciated, therefore by my logic deserves more attention which is why i post about him more. that said, the love is the same but i feel the needs are different.
i would marry aizawa because i feel like with the way that i've developed him as a character, he's probably the most appealing as a long term partner. i get all the love and affection that comes from being his wife and i also get the sex hahaha. the way that i've developed nishiki as a character, i feel that the two of us are far too similar for it to work long term and we would clash in a major way. in my ss canon, we do clash alot because of those similarities. that said, nishiki is also the better sexual partner of the two. oops. like, i hate to pit them against each other but like, as far as my needs are concerned, i'd say nishiki is the better lover... so that's why i came to the conclusion that i did. i could go on but i feel like i've rattled on longer than i should have already lol

Curiosity Killed the Cat - draft
aka: Rhyin goes home after getting caught in a really weird storm and finds his hometown abandoned, empty, and falling apart. The logical conclusion is to go dig through your dad's stuff, right? He knew what was going on anyway.
"I think there's a saying that fits here." The stranger smiled with laced benevolence. "Curiosity killed the cat."
"Who are you?" Rhyin demanded.
"That's why you're here, isn't it? Curious and looking for something. Put the book down and I'll be gentle." The sun reflected off the stranger's glasses, resulting in a soulless expression.
"Oh, and why should I be frightened of you?"
"Ah yes, my name. I'm called many things; master, lord." He casually stepped forward, with all the airs of a king in his home. "I am Chaos. And who are you?"
Rhyin raised an eyebrow. "No you're not."
"Excuse me?" His eyebrows furrowed with bewilderment as he chuckled lightly.
"Who are you really and why are you here." Rhyin straightened up.
"I've come for an important document, I believe it's in this library." The chaos fraud sighed. "But oh, I think someone else checked it out already. Oopsie we'll have to trade."
"Here, hand it to me." He held his hand forward, his gaze glaring into Rhyin as if daring him to defy him.
Rhyin glared back.
The stranger gave another sigh, tapping his thumb against his fingers as if counting up the worries of his day.
"Aren't you a bit lost? I don't think you live here. So just where exactly did you come from? And don't try to lie about it, you can't escape. It will be better in the long run if you come clean, a heavy conscience is a serious thing." He addressed Rhyin in a flippant tone, with a mockingly soft edge. His posture like a father who caught a child making off with the cookie jar.
"I don't know what you're talking about, this is my house."
The stranger snorted. "You make for a poor scout. Or a spy. Whatever you are, you're foolish."
The air tightened and thinned. A cracking energy climbed up up the stranger's arms, leaping into sparks. Rhyin watched in growing horror as a black flame of chaos grew across the floor.
"You...you did all this, didn't you? Where are they all, where are the wizards!" Rhyin's free hand clenched into a fist, anger flashing into his eyes. Mist flaking off into smoke around his feet.
"Is that not what I asked you?" Chaos' gaze flickered to the mist and back to Rhyin. His smile now gone and replaced with a foreign coldness. "Now you'll tell me where your people are hiding and I might spare your life."
Rhyin shook as his rage mingled in his fear, his heart pounding a rhythm he wished his feet to follow. A chill fell in the room, freezing the chaos sparks in the air.
"First, you'll tell me why you want this." His voice stayed steady as his gaze, a rash boldness spurring him on. He held the journal up in view, and watched something flash over Chaos' face. "And then, try and tell me why I should even care to listen." His voice sharpened with each word.
It was a bluff, and he knew it. The room was thick with chaos magic, a spluttering sea like lightning hidden in the thick mist that covered the room. But it didn't matter anymore. If this was Chaos and he'd destroyed everyone, what was there left?
The black fire reached his feet and gave off an unnatural coldness. Its flames licking at his legs and curling up only to freeze into waves of ice.
"Well I suppose I'll explain it to you then." Chaos held his hands out, and the mist pulled up from the floor into his palm. "Actions speak louder than words, you know."
Rhyin backed up behind the desk, grabbing another book off it as he went. "I've always preferred a metaphor."
Chaos, swirled it in his hands as he followed with Rhyin's movements, the two slowly circling each other.
"Oh I wouldn't waste my metaphors on you. You can't answer a simple question."
The wind broke the tension in the room, rushing circles and spinning papers off the floor. The floor bent up and cracked away from itself. Chaos tilted his head and smirked. Extending his hand he twirled his fingers and the mist lit into burning energy.
Rhyin launched a book through the air, landing it onto Chaos' face. He paused long enough to grab a book off the floor on his way out the door, sharply turning along with the hallway. He shoved the journal into the folds of his tunic, leaving the other book in his hand. Adrenaline filled him, catching in his breath and jolting through his legs.
The floor in front of him abruptly rose out into a wall, filling the hallway and blocking his path. Rhyin stumbled to a stop, his shoulder slamming into it. His eyes glanced about for another path and found nothing. Trapped. The stone wall slowly slid forward, pushing Rhyin with it.
Chaos rounded the corner to greet him, his tainted magic smoking off his fists.
"Had a quick bit of exercise? Now that you've got that out of your system you're calm enough to talk?"
Chaos eyed him as he panted, his heart beating against his throat. His body shivered as his leg wobbled under him. Anger was washing away and he was exhausted, left with nothing. Not that he had much to begin with. It was rather pathetic, this was the best fight he could put up?
"You're right," Rhyin gulped down his fast breathing and pressed the book to his chest. "I can't beat you. If you could...defeat Master Ketsler, then I don't stand a chance."
"That's very wise of you." Chaos replied flatly.
"If I tell the truth, will you let me go? Please, you don't understand, I can't die." Rhyin brought his gaze up from the floor to plead.
"Depends on if you tell me all of it or not."
"I was...supposed to distract you." He let his eyes fall back to his feet again, his shoulders slumping in shame. Another bluff.
"What." Chaos narrowed his eyes and took a threatening step forward.
Rhyin pressed his back against the stone, willing it to break away and let him through, let him get away and beyond. He clutched the book tightly with both hands, gulping down the mounting dread.
A cracking noise and the stone folded apart. Rhyin tumbled backwards catching himself in surprise, and the stone sealed into a wall. All his dread lit once more. Time froze with his fear, slowly to a crawling tick as he scrambled as fast as he could on weak legs and gasping breath. An energy surging through him, lifting him forward as he crashed out the front door into the abandoned lawn.
He paused as he stepped onto the grass, turning to look about his options. A driving need urged him to keep walking, but the burning in his legs said otherwise. Where to run and where to hide? How could he run from Chaos, he could barely run. He took a deep breath and let it go. But before he could consider any options the front door went flying off into a tree to announce Chaos.
"Turn yourself in, this is a stupid waste of time." Chaos strode up and grabbed Rhyin's wrist, pulling the book out of his hands.
Rhyin pulled his arm free and rubbed it as he stepped backwards, a pit of numbness opening within him. It was done and over. "Fine, I ruined your little moment but I'll be quiet now." Prickling ran up his arms, like the wake to life from a dull sleep.
"Good." He glanced at the book before folding his arms in front of him. "Tell me where your friends are."
"Didn't you do this?" Rhyin gestured out to the broken buildings and scarred ground, overgrowth on top of ashes and charred life. "Didn't you kill them? Why do you ask me where the dead lie when it was your hand that sent them under!"
Numbness rubbed together into a burning ache. He was weary, his body quaking, his breath pressed close against his chest, raking fire through his lungs. But the fire ignited in his blood and pulsed through his veins into his fists. The corners of the world blurred, and the earth wavered.
"How dare you." His voice shook like thunder of a reaching storm. "Have you a soul? Destruction and death taint you, what monster have you distorted yourself into! You've killed my people and now you hunt me down! How dare you!" Lightning cracking along the earth, speeding to meet itself. The breeze shifted course, bending over and blowing a current, smoke lifting from below and caught in it, churning into a storm.
"You may have worn me down and caught me, you'll kill me and make sure I can't cause trouble, but all the death will be on your hands. The blood will soak your soul! It is your conscience that is heavy, heavy with your sins!" The energy blanketing the ground sparked and threw embers into the air. The stone trembled along with Rhyin's fear and fury. His arms burned as orange shattering gathered across them, dancing irregularly with his emotion.
The wind was rising, roaring to live, lifting into the sky and building into dark clouds. Thunder leaking into the atmosphere and staining it dark. Unearthly highlighting and silhouetting in turn. Chaos' face twisted into a snarl, his brow shadowed in anger. Sound slipped away into the storm, screaming as it flew into the heavens. Rhyin sunk to his knees, his vision lost in the confusion unfolding around him, pulling him to and fro, battering against him. His heart burning in his chest and thumping in pace with the quickening rage around him. Raw pain jolting through his, filling his mind, driving through his being. He was exhausted, flaking away with the world. He was alive, everything living in pure intensity.
A scream filtered out of the noise and cut the roaring to silence. The wind parted in each direction, falling to dust. A figure of bright red blurring through the air as it flew at Chaos, steel blades reflecting the eerie light. The earth shot up to block the attack Chaos spun to meet his enemy. The stranger screamed again—bellowing with rage that rattled in the ears—and jumped on top of the rise of stone, flipping himself through the air and thrusting his weapon forward.
Rhyin blinked, his palms pressed against the earth steadying him. His breath can short and fast as his mind tried to track with the action that played out around him. Sprays of dirt flying into the dark shroud. The world buckled, and the atmosphere drew towards chaos, pulling everything with it. Gathering into a churning orb. Time paused. A moment in crystal silence, peace amid death. Then it erupted. Exploding itself and the world with it, the world washed white in power. Rhyin clutched his head and screamed.
A figure broke through the swirling chaos and paused at Rhyin's side. "Hey, hey it's okay we'll get you out of this." He raised his voice over the fighting, but the tone was gentle and fatherly.
Rhyin gasped and glanced up. The world fell behind of veil of gloom, clouding his vision. Mist smoked off him and blew away.
"It's alright, I've got you." The stranger voice faded out of time. Reality turned to a pulsing blank ink, swallowing his mind. He was falling...
Ketsler frowned and knelt beside the boy. Skylar yelled something in the distance that earned an aggravated cry from Chaos. The wizard child slumped over and hit the ground, chaos magic reeking off him.
"Oh no, wait don't do that." Ketsler hurriedly reached for the child's shoulders. "Oh okay, good, you just rest."
Felix crouched down and took the boy up in his arms, frowning at the mass of static energy.
"Oh, thank you."
Ketsler sighed and took the reins from the storm and pulled fire from it, dissipating it into the air.
"Chaos what have you been up to."

the onion really pulling no punches huh
some sections that really hit
We just made Quentin up, and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean stories like his aren’t potentially happening everywhere, constantly. Good journalism is about finding those stories, even when they don’t exist. It’s about asking the tough questions and ignoring the answers you don’t like, then offering misleading evidence in service of preordained editorial conclusions. In our case, endangering trans people is the lodestar that shapes our coverage. Frankly, if our work isn’t putting trans people further at risk of trauma and violence, we consider it a failure.
We stand behind our recent obsessed-seeming torrent of articles and essays on trans people, which we believe faithfully depicts their lived experiences as weird and gross. We remain dedicated to finding the angles that best frame the basic rights of the gender-nonconforming as up for debate, and we will use these same angles over and over again in hopes that this repetition makes them suffer. As journalists, it is our obligation to entertain any and all pseudoscience that gives bigotry an intellectual veneer. We must be diligent in laundering our vitriol through the posture of journalistic inquiry, and we must be allowed to fixate on the genitals.
It is against free speech to stop us from fixating on the genitals.
Indeed, there are critical questions to be asked about the social complexities of gender, as well as medical ethics in a profit-driven healthcare system. We are simply not interested in any of that. Instead, we will use flawed data and spurious logic to repeatedly write the same hand-wringing arguments asking whether there are suddenly too many trans people around. Journalistic integrity demands nothing less.
Naturally, courageous reporting like ours has its detractors. Our critics accuse us of transphobia and are trying to murder us online, with their online mobs. They want to destroy our right to free speech and have us arrested by all the police. What gives? Why would you arrest us, when it’s those deviant trans people you ought to be arresting instead? Do you know what the science says about trans people getting arrested, huh? What if we could find data saying trans people should be more likely to get arrested? What will our detractors say then? They’ll be silent, as well they should be, and free speech will survive one more day. For more evidence of our time-honored journalistic commitment to endangering lives, please see our previous coverage of gay people, immigrants, Black people, and women.
All great journalists, and even those lesser journalists who don’t work for The Onion, eventually ponder why we do what we do. Is the point of reporting to illuminate the world around us, so that we may make meaning of it? Or is it to cause people in minority groups to question their humanity and persuade others to demonize them? We know where we stand, proudly dreaming of genitals. Research shows that trans people are over four times more likely than cisgender people to be the victim of a violent crime. We salute our colleagues across the media who are working tirelessly to make that number even higher.

☾ Thoma is taking the moment to place a crescent shape charm in the form of a necklace around the Twilight Sword's neck. Embellished in gold while the charm itself holds a silver crescent similar to the moon, he draws a content smile at the sight before allowing his hand to settle along Dainsleif's shoulder. "While it isn't much, I do hope this empowered charm serves well on your journeys to come. I've had it blessed by the Shrine Maidens to be a ward from malicious energies. Not to mention with a touch of my own will for additional protections." "I believe in your strength, but I'd like to always keep in mind that in one way or another, I intend to walk the path along with you."
■  ■  ■ Crystal clear surprise reflects within icy sapphire depths since the first moment Thoma braved to ask his permission to step closer to him, with the promise that he has something for him. Out of respect to let the suspense and the giddy stirring of his heart with anticipation does Dáinsleif keep his gaze to the front, stilling himself to not let curiosity get the best of him and look to the small item that comes with the necklace. He takes the lingering hand atop his hand as a gesture of conclusion and so he looks downward at long last. Azure irises widen in a subtle manner as he rises a hand to cup gently the golden white crescent moon that lays atop the palm of his hand, soon to soften with fondness for the gesture born from selfless kindness.
For a moment, he wonders about his charm shape choice when he occupied his mind to decide what may suit him best. Does he remind him of a crescent moon? The thought, though tentative, leaves his mind as soon as it entered. No— that would be too flattering to him were that true.
But deep down in his heart, he rejoices at one line of thought: Were he able to be like the moon, shining the way to the lost in the darkness, then his quincentennial life would be for naught.
Platinum blond locks sway gently with the soft shake of his head to the protector’s words in disagreement. ❝Perish the thought. It is more meaningful than you can imagine.❞ His gaze peels off jade irises to look at the charm once again, his cool eyes softening some more the more he thinks about all the thought Thoma must’ve put on this simple gesture, albeit deep in meaning as the vastest sea. ❝...It’s beautiful.❞
So he had it blessed by the shrine maidens at the Grand Narukami Shrine to ward off malicious energies. For all their journeys are worth, he must have noticed certain tendencies in the relevance of his presence in specific places that contain such energy. To think that despite everything he has seen from his capabilities— from fighting to curative ones... even if that would invite the logic that he would not need any blessing, he still insisted that he is protected when his next objectives lead him far from Inazuma.
The onyx gloved hand encapsulates the silver crescent moon in his gentle fist as albescent lashes flutter to a momentary close to feel its energy. The might of pyro is recognizable to its fullest as Thoma’s essence, especially after witnessing a nigh fall for chasing that tempting power were it not for his guiding voice to remain grounded lest he burned himself to completion. Their journey from the far south in Tsurumi Island to the depths of Arami... all of these memories are engraved in this tiny charm alongside the defender’s will within it. ❝Thank you.❞
Tumblr media
So that’s what it is. Even in the distance, you want to be with me.
He almost chuckles at his own jest, better kept in his mind rather than offer it as a gentle tease to the man after he has just gifted him something this precious. Cyan eyes open anew in time to see a single electro sakura blossom landing on his strawberry blond hair, and a new line of thought crosses his mind. The corners of his lips lift in a gentle smile as he reaches out his free hand forward. Unbeknownst to Thoma, a nigh invisible sapphire flame illuminates his hand when it is out of the other’s field of vision to touch one of the forehead protector’s horns with the tip of a finger, thus imbuing it with curative, purifying and fortifying might of a lunar aura in the guise of Irminsul ether that, unbeknownst to Dáinsleif himself, was never lost to him even after several centuries. Ultimately, he removes the soft pink blossom— the forehead protector glistening in response to the now encapsulated energy he gifted to him.
❝So long as petals still fall like snow upon this island, we will surely meet again. Our fates shall be forever entwined like those of the sakura bloom.❞

Easy Way to Convert Binary to Decimal
How to convert binary to decimal?
The process of converting binary to decimal might seem like deciphering an ancient code, but in reality, it’s a straightforward concept that plays a crucial role in understanding digital systems.
Binary, with its two digits (0 and 1), is the foundation of computing, while decimal, with its familiar ten digits (0-9), is the system we use in everyday life.
So, how do we bridge the gap between these two worlds?
The Conversion Process:
Converting binary to decimal involves translating a string of 0s and 1s into a numeric value using powers of 2.
Each digit in a binary number represents a power of 2, starting from the right and increasing by one for each subsequent digit.
To convert, multiply each digit by 2 raised to its corresponding power and then sum the results.
Step-by-Step Guide:
Let’s take an example: the binary number 1101.
Start from the right. The rightmost digit is 1. Multiply 1 by 2^0 (which is 1) to get 1.
Move to the next digit. It’s also 1. Multiply 1 by 2^1 (which is 2) to get 2.
The third digit is 0, so its contribution is 0.
The leftmost digit is 1. Multiply 1 by 2^3 (which is 8) to get 8.
Add up the results: 8 + 0 + 2 + 1 = 11.
So, the binary number 1101 is equivalent to the decimal number 11.
Unlocking Digital Understanding:
Converting binary to decimal is like peeking behind the curtain of digital technology. It highlights the way computers process information, making it an essential skill for anyone delving into computer science or programming.
This process is a small but significant step toward grasping the language of computers and the logic behind the technology we use every day.
Binary to Decimal Formula
Converting binary numbers to decimal might seem like a puzzle, but the process can be streamlined using a simple formula.
This formula encapsulates the fundamental principle of binary to decimal conversion and provides a quick way to decode binary values.
The Formula:
The binary to decimal conversion formula is based on powers of 2. Each digit in a binary number is multiplied by 2 raised to the power of its position, starting from the right and increasing by one for each subsequent digit. The results of these calculations are then summed to obtain the decimal equivalent.
Formula in Action:
Let’s take the binary number 10101 as an example:
The rightmost digit is 1. It’s multiplied by 2^0, resulting in 1.
The second rightmost digit is also 1. It’s multiplied by 2^1, giving us 2.
The third digit is 0, contributing 0 to the sum.
The fourth digit is 1. It’s multiplied by 2^3, which is 8.
The leftmost digit is 1. It’s multiplied by 2^4, which is 16.
Summing these results: 1 + 2 + 0 + 8 + 16 = 27.
Hence, the binary number 10101 is equal to the decimal number 27, which we’ve successfully determined using the binary to decimal formula.
Conclusion: Unveiling Binary’s Decimal Equivalent
The binary to decimal formula is a handy tool for anyone seeking to understand the language of computers.
By utilizing this straightforward formula, you can swiftly decode binary values into their decimal equivalents, unveiling the numeric essence behind digital systems.
With the formula in your toolkit, you’ll confidently navigate the intricacies of binary conversion and enhance your grasp of the technological landscape.

Fear Underestimates Dumbness: A Fresh Take on Understanding and Overcoming FUD
Introduction:
Picture this: you're scrolling through your social media feed or browsing the news, and suddenly you come across a sensational headline designed to send shivers down your spine. Your heart races, and your mind is filled with worry. This, my friends, is FUD in action. FUD stands for Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt, and it's a manipulative tactic that can impact our emotions and decisions. But fear not (pun intended), for I have a new definition that will help us tackle this pesky problem: Fear Underestimates Dumbness. Join me as we explore this fun and fresh perspective, empowering us to make smarter choices and combat the effects of FUD.
The Power of Fear: When Jitters Make Us Goofy
Fear is like that uninvited party guest who drinks all your soda and then breaks your favorite lamp. It's a potent emotion that can cloud our judgment and lead us to make some truly facepalm-worthy decisions. When we're gripped by fear, we often underestimate just how "dumb" our choices can be. By recognizing the powerful influence fear has on our decision-making process, we can better understand the dangers of FUD and work to resist its sneaky, manipulative tactics.
FUD in Action: Real-Life Examples
Let's take a look at some real-life examples of FUD in action. In the world of investing, FUD can lead people to panic sell their stocks due to an unfounded rumor or a single piece of bad news, causing a massive drop in the market. In politics, FUD can be employed to spread misinformation about a candidate or an issue, swaying public opinion based on fear rather than facts. In everyday life, FUD can manifest as a fear of trying new things, switching careers, or even trusting people. By recognizing FUD in its various forms, we can learn to navigate these situations with a more level-headed approach.
Combating FUD: A Three-Step Dance to Outsmart the Fear Monster
So, how can we outwit FUD and avoid making fear-driven decisions that might leave us red-faced and full of regret? I've choreographed a simple, three-step dance routine that will help you stay informed, rational, and in control. Let's boogie!
Recognize fear-based narratives:
When FUD starts playing its ominous tune, it's time for the first dance move: identifying when it's happening. As you encounter information that seems to play on your fears, pause and question its reliability. Is the source credible? Are the claims based on facts or just a sly attempt to prey on your emotions? By staying vigilant and questioning fear-based narratives, you can start to bust FUD's moves.
Educate yourself:
The second step in our dance to defy FUD is knowledge. It's like that infectious rhythm that gets your feet tapping and your heart pumping. Make an effort to research the topic in question and gather information from trustworthy sources. The more informed you are, the less likely you'll fall prey to fear-based manipulation. Arm yourself with knowledge, and don't be afraid to dig deep to uncover the truth.
Take a step back and breathe:
Sometimes, fear can feel like a conga line that's pulling you along at breakneck speed. But remember, you have the power to break free. When you find yourself swept up in the whirlwind of fear, take a moment to step back, breathe, and regain your composure. Clear your mind, refocus, and assess the situation logically. Remind yourself that fear doesn't have to be the DJ controlling the soundtrack of your life.
Conclusion:
By embracing the Fear Underestimates Dumbness mindset, we can equip ourselves with the tools to resist FUD's manipulative tactics. Recognize fear-based narratives, educate yourself, and take a step back to breathe. Stay informed, stay rational, and don't let fear crash your party. Together, we can outsmart FUD and make smarter, more thoughtful decisions. So, put on your dancing shoes, and let's dance fear away!
