For Those Lost at Sea - Composed by John Mock, arranged by Gary Coover
there was some rain today before the winter storm rolled in and my fiddlin' friend and I took the opportunity of the moderate-by-comparison afternoon weather to film some atmospheric videos for our instagram.

Dearest To Venus And Back, you are still my second favorite Tori record-you are a dive into the ether, into a celestial, planetary sea of luscious sonic textures, images, and total space cake vibes. I’ll never forget Tori describing you as a bleeding watercolor coming through the listener’s speakers. I love your softness and how you don’t have many (or any) sharp edges. You are the black Sahara, melting stars, and glittering tubes of liquid sky. I love you so much! Happy Birthday!!

Video game music
Video game music is an interesting type of music, it is not a genre, rather, video game music is music written for a specific purpose, mostly, to set a certain tone or mood within a video game
sometimes the music itself can also have importance to the gameplay, i recall there being a Zelda game where you have to play short melodies on an ocarina, in order to stay alive or something like that. the ocarina has become a key symbol of the Zelda franchise, and i recall, seeing that you could actually buy an ocarina matching the one in the game, in a gamestop once. Sadly gamestop has closed in my country of Denmark
and while were on the topic of Zelda, i may as well bring up one of my prime examples of this blog post, Kass´ theme from The Legend Of Zelda; Breath Of The Wild, there are countless videoes of this being performed on accordion, along with other instruments, online. here i present one by Cadenza Accordion:
youtube
The thing i find so fascinating about video game music is how; even though it may have been created for a very specific purpose in the game, you dont necesarily have to know or play the game to enjoy the music, Kass´s theme is a peice i think demonstrates this. You could easily perform this on the street as if it were any other classical or folk peice, and i dont think people would enjoy it any less. I think theres some fantastic harmony in the peice, and i love how it ties in with the classic good-old Zelda theme at one point, before ending and then looping back to the much more bittersweet tone of the start
My depest apologies that i have to mention Zelda so much in this post, but it may just be that the Legend Of Zelda franchise has really good music, here is another video that i think is worth checking out, of the Main theme on Marimba, mixed in with some other small percussive instruments;
youtube
This one is played by multiple people, and has editing involved, adding some drum parts and such to it.
I wanna end of this post with one last thing, a peice from my favourite 3d platformer of all time, Super Mario Galaxy. Well actually i like the sequel better, but thats probably just because of nostalgia, idk. but here is Comet Observatory on concertina;
youtube
I wanna leave it up to you to chew further on the topic of video game music, and how it finds itself in relation to more traditional music. i dont consider myself a real video game nerd, more of a casual gamer, and Ex-nintendo nerd, i was super into nintendo for a lot of my life, thank you

Movement : week 2 - 22nd Jan
Today I went to the screen printing workshop. We learnt all about screen printing and everything that’s involved in the process from the different inks you can use to the ways in which screen printing can be applied to multiple materials.
We then started out making our own test pieces. I wanted to stick with a simple design so I decided to look at the concertina being pulled apart ( the shapes in particular) . I cut out my stencil and then printed my design.

Daily Instrument — Concertina
The concertina is a free reed aerophone from England and later independently in Germany. The English concertina has hexagonal hand bellows with keys placed on both ends. Sound is made by contracting or retracting the bellows to move air over reeds. The player uses buttons to control which note the concertina plays
