I see where you're coming from, but also blorbo is different to everyone and we all had different experiences. I was in voltron but pidge was my blorbo, not lance, so I rarely saw him. And then I saw Yuuri everywhere whether I wanted to or not. Also, polls are not about accuracy, as much as we might think they should be. Life is a popularity contest. 🩵💙🩵💙🩵

my blorbo rankings contain multitudes. however, i am cognizant enough to recognize two things:

while lance is not my specific blorboest blorbo, i still rank him to be a more iconic blorbo than yuri. and so my vote for lance is still valid.

this poll is about most iconic blorbo. i like keith and allura more than i like lance, but i firmly believe that lance is voltron's most iconic character. i define "iconic" based on the following criteria: a) canon material; b) fandom experience and reaction; and c) impact on outsiders (the "did i see this character everywhere" standard). i heavily value points in the (b) category over points for (a) and (c).

lance's canon material sucks ass. however, the fandom's ability to 1) go crazy over lance anyway, and then 2) ability to extrapolate so heavily, insist on digging so deeply, and create so genuinely is impressive to me. and also incredibly hilarious. this is why i made the toxic iconity argument: i deeply respect the daily battles lance stans fought, both between themselves/the wider voltron fandom, and the constant enduring sisyphus-level uphill battle against the quality of the canon material. lance stans were able to create everything out of veritable nothingness, and i believe that deserves to be commemorated.

The Texan twang that clung to his words, the crinkle in his eyes when he smiled. The scar that cut through his eyebrow, his calloused yet soft hands, covered in scars not unlike Keith's now.

Imagine that when Keith did the BOM trial, that dream of his father was the first time Keith had seen him since he died. Imagine Keith being so determined not to forget his father this time he does whatever he can– draws (terrible, honestly) pictures, over and over and over again, he uses the mind meld to just see that dream on repeat. He's not forgetting, he won't forget again. His memory is alive with Keith, and he won't let it go again.

Imagine Keith being so absorbed in this, he forgets about the people around him, who would all be more than happy to help.

Why isn’t there a voltron essay/summary video that talks about Sheith. Not about the fandom drama or fans. Not about the “different interpretations” or how fans clashed over it. Just straight up a video about Shiro and Keith and the ship.

This is a popular Voltron ship. After S7 E1 premiered at a con it was a likely ship to be at least implied, which is a sentiment carried by professionals who wrote in actual published articles/reviews about the show. About how Adam, Shiro’s ex, was being narratively compared to Keith. About how aside from an intergalactic space war, the plot often focused on the relationship between these two men.

The fandom adds so much drama and murk into the water when you think about Voltron or shipping or Sheith. But take all that stupid shit away and… Professionals who remain unbiased could clearly see the writing on the walls. And while I’m obviously biased a bit, when I try to detach my personal views from being analytical about the show it’s so obviously there.

And it would have been amazing representation! A healthy, strong, and emotional ship between two male characters. Two leads. That are always given a focus throughout. (what’s season 8, never heard of it.)

I mean nobody has made a video about it bc the fandom is so hostile let’s be honest. But man do I wish it was done….

omg I had no idea that dreamworks bought voltron from bobby at WEP . Apparently theyre also developing a live action film? Sorting out casting and stuff. Looks like its probs a few years away though. Really sad that Bobby is co-producing tho :( I hope the trademark transfer to dreamworks didnt give him a hole into it to fuck it all up.

A film would pull in more older fans as well.. itd be more likely to be targeting older audiences as well, like the transformers films are different to the animated series I imagine.

I wonder if theyd keep or advance the representation there was in VLD. Because there was so much backlash about later seasons and WEP seemed to not understand what the demographics of the fans actually was. Bobby thought it was all young boys and their dads watching it, but it turned out to be teenage girls.. I wonder if theyd make a transformers-type live action but targeting that girl/gay demographic that latched onto VLD? There'd be a niche for it. People would go insane over it

Man ty for popping up on my dashboard. I miss voltron, but whenever I try to check what's up I get reaaally bad flashbacks as to how the fandom was. It's kinda worse when u accidentally triggered a community of a popular ship (its not kl@nce) :')))) hnghjgn idk how u do it

voltron is just. such a funny phenomenon. the show was like a C+ at BEST but we all stuck around anyway clinging to the hope that things would eventually improve and then they NEVER did. & so we all had to make do with literal scraps and we were RESOURCEFUL!!! 😭 I have honestly never seen a fandom where the fan content was so divorced from the actual source material like 💀💀💀 and i think this scarcity of good content forced people to be extra creative, which is why the voltron fandom was 1) so genuinely hilarious and 2) full of content producing MACHINES

Literally all we could do was just talk to each other. we were forced to survive off each other’s kindness & it made everyone super co-dependent. it really was a bunch of high schoolers forming parasocial relationships with other high schoolers; of course it got messy!!

also this is such a minor detail in the grand scheme of things but voltron hit tumblr at like the exact time social media became more accessible to people under 13 years old. and like. conflict and discourse is an inevitable part of fandom. but the end result was we had college students picking fights with LITERAL middle schoolers. and I genuinely cannot believe we all thought this was normal behavior!!!!!

#I genuinely get sad when I hear people talk about how voltron caused them so much stress. and then they mention that they’re not even 18 yet #like… wow #god I hope emma does not become an active and involved member of a fandom it’s just. it’s not very moderated. #also people often trivialize voltron’s messiness down to ‘ship wars’ and they were ship wars. but there was a very moralized element to it. #and people were heavily invested in fighting over this. not just because muh ships but people were also very much coming at this #from a place of personal trauma or experience. and in hindsight were just retraumatizing themselves. #ugh. idk fandom kind of sucks. but tumblr in 2012-2015 was such a fun time for me & it was a formative experience #and then I hear people say that voltron turned them off from fandom forever when they were 14 and I go :( #sigh.
