Scarlet Red
--prompt from my own, "bright red". Also inspired by "Roşu aprins" by Luna amara
I color my lips
until they blaze a scarlet red,
blowing a kiss,
but unraveling a thread.
I bite on my flesh,
with teeth white as the moon.
Waiting, I watch as a bird
slips into a cloud
and vanishes in the rain,
waiting to fall.
All has gone gray;
despite the mist clearing up
the gunk in my eyes,
I forgot what purple was.
But I do remember that scarlet,
that bright red...
Red, not of fires
nor of alarms.
Red, not of burning coals
nor of rancid blood.
No--it's the red of
a comforting sunset,
a moment of bliss
before the darkness falls.
It's the red of a rose
blooming amongst ashes,
feeding itself with broken sunlight
and a steady rain. --Elda Mengisto

I answered.
Who wouldn't choose pink? When it is the color of blushing cheeks and pouty lips, kittens' paws and little girls' clothes, rose bouquets and exotic flowers, amethysts and crystals, childhood toys and flamingo birds?
Why not pink? When it is all that is soft and pastel and youthful, even one's made hard and dark and old by all the world's colors? Or when it is all that is bright and flamboyant and creative, even when we're all made sad and repressed and uninspired by all the world's colors?
Sure, blue is the sky, red is the blood, yellow the sun, green the grass, but pink...
Pink is human, so entirely human...

color poem: black
i’d never noticed the way
that your eyes held
an entire universe
until you professed your love
as i looked up
at the pitch black sky
and while i noticed the endlessness void
that surrounded us
i finally understood
the rarity of our love
because i now know
that a divine being
has bestowed upon me
the glorious opportunity
of existing at the same time
as you
and to ensure
that our story
never fades to black
i will fall to my knees
and declared my utter devotion
to our love-
our mutual masterpiece

Renounce/Remorse
--prompt from @nosebleedclub "vermillion" (15 July)
Vermillion lips hold a thousand truths,
but one lie is enough to reveal the toxins
I kept for myself, melding with my skins.
Inside my mouth I hold a morsel
of strawberry rhubarb candy,
but I cut the wrong shard
and taste the poison
which makes my lips tremble
out of impulse.
I rashly tell myself this ruby
means less compared to what
you entrusted to me with your life--
all your intimate grazes
and slights of hand
holding extinguished sparks
from fireworks exploded too early.
The smell of sulfur clouds my nose
and my judgement--the colors disintegrate
as absolution renounces me
and you bless me with its ashes.

color poem: blue
blue is the color of our love
you whisper to me
as i settle on our bed
your words bring forth memories of
a first kiss in the bluest of oceans
and star-gazing under the midnight sky
i want to argue that blue is often
synonymous with sadness
but instead
my voice fails me
every moment that i have loved you
reminds me of the color blue
and i cannot help but agree
wholeheartedly
blue is the color of our love
i whisper as you gently drag
a paintbrush dipped in blue paint
across the plains of my back
my body is but a canvas-
a vehicle that tells the story
of the love it has been gifted by you
